i read a poem on tiktok by @/whispersintheabyss (its their yin and yang poem, day 20/21). its originally a mlm poem but the tldr is that the protag goes to a diner bc their mom set up a date for them, but a random person keeps the protag company while their date is late. eventually the protag and person fall in love (it's a lot more than this, but this is just a brief overview)

ive been talking with my friends about dating and life recently, especially since one of my friends is feeling really pressured by her parents to find a partner. ive had my own talks with my mom, and that whole topic abt love and marriage and dating feels very... heavy and stressful. ive also been struggling with direction in life (no college, no job), so i wanted to write smth that people could relate to! facing all these big decisions and feeling like youve fallen short of something you couldve been. im rambling a bit, but i promise ill get to the streamer part soon ><

i kind of want to emulate the whole 'arranged date' and 'run in with a stranger' thing with reader and sanemi, where streamer!sanemi feels bad watching reader wait for their date. i was also thinking of maybe reader being a casual viewer of sanemi's streams, so they recognise him and kind of laugh at the coincidences. i want them to find comfort in each other, e.g. late nights where reader can't sleep and they watch sanemi's streams to feel less lonely, or sanemi is feeling overwhelmed with the need to perform on stream so they feel relaxed being just himself around the reader

maybe i'll throw in a bit of streamer drama... i've been around these sorts of social circles so i have a fair idea of what happens (LOL)... it's probably gonna be slowburn (im sorry im such a sucker for exploring the developing dynamics of a relationship), i really want to emphasise reader's struggle to get their life back 'together' and the strains of having a viewer become more than just a face in the crowd for sanemi

this is just a huge thought so idk if i'll actually have the strength to do it... im already running out of steam for office romcom (though i swear its just the next arc that's hard to write) buttttttt i'll do my best!!!! i wanted to write a whole bunch of fics that would fit in my 'in every universe' series. i realised i never really explained, but i wanted to write about how sanemi never prioritises his own happiness in the canon timeline. its always his family, genya, masachika, never himself in the front seat. so, every fic under the series is supposed to be a separate timeline where sanemi finds his own happiness and soulmate :3 including office romcom, including this streamer fic, and a whole bunch of other one shots i have planned

While Raph’s are more yellow, I think it’s cute that this is something that they share and I don’t see it pointed out too often?

It’s also something they both share with Draxum and Splinter’s current form (though again, these two have much more yellow sclera than the boys do.)

But yeah, I like that there’s this little detail that ties Raph and Donnie together, even if it’s small.

It's interesting to me how incredibly passive Jess seems in his relationship with Shane overall. I feel like a lot of what we see is her initiating something with him (even having to interrupt his reading repeatedly to do so! And he seems like he'd rather be reading, honestly) and him just... going along with it. The only times he seems to pull HER in is when he's deliberately trying to get a rise out of Rory. I'll probably never know exactly how things started with them, but I'm kind of left with the impression that Shane was definitely the one who expressed interest in him first, and he just went, "I might as well," because he felt like it would be stupid to say no to someone who wanted him just because of someone who probably didn't.

I wanted to ask you about Hitchcock 😔 If you're willing to answer, which movies of his do you think are overrated and which do you think are actually good? He's my most watched director (because film school) but I only genuinely like a few of his films and always disagreed with my classmates about which ones were the best

I feel like I'm holding up a Daffy Duck style sign that says "shoot me" because Hitchcock is so well thought of by cinephiles versus me, the basic horny mod who watches movies with hot people in them. With that said, I remember Rope, Dial M for Murder, North by Northwest, and To Catch a Thief all left me a bit flat, because I felt like he was prioritizing pushing technical limits or creating extravagant images over deeper characters and relationships. I love a good technical limit-pushing, but it needs to serve the story! And sometimes I feel like he has an idea he wants to try or an image he wants to show and puts so much focus on developing it that characters' reality and interest kind of falls by the wayside—they become pawns navigating his situations, instead of interesting characters in their own right.

To be fair, this is more a characteristic of his later work than his early work—The Lady Vanishes is one of my favorite movies, and I remember Notorious and Spellbound both being enjoyable when I watched them a few years ago. Again, basic film watcher here. Don't show this post to the Criterion collection.

you are absolutely correct and I’ve been turning over specifically astrid’s coming of age arc in my head for this reason!!!

Something interesting to me is how Astrid lacks the goofy naming tradition of Berk. To me, in part that’s because when she came out as a girl she really wanted to leave her old identity behind including the silly nature of her name… but ‘Astrid’? Now that’s a name worth fearing, that’s a name that sounds powerful, and for people to respect her and her being-a-girl, she needs to have a name worth respecting. she needs to be The Perfect Girl, the perfect warrior, so she trains day and night to become the best shieldmaiden because that’s what her community needs. They need someone who can fight and kill dragons and protect their home

and then all of that gets upended

And now she’s left with… Astrid the girl who is the best shieldmaiden of her age. but what use is that strength now that there’s peace? how does she come to terms with this new identity? With this name and this image that she picked out for herself that no longer needs to exist the way it once needed to?

Something I’m particularly interested in is exploring Astrid’s trans feminine identity in the largely violent, strength-dominant culture that does not need to exist as it once did. this is why astrid cooking in gotnf and episodes like flight of passage are so interesting to me… we get to see astrid express interest in new ideas and struggle with peacetime, but despite that, she’s clearly someone who loves deeply. Astrid loves Berk, she is willing to kill and die for it — now she has to learn to live for it

Genuinely Asking, (Not sarcastically! This ask comes across as bitchy unintentionally But Im genuinely asking) what do you think the themes of ii are. What the purpose of the story is. Im utterly confused by what you take from each episode. What You analyze and what you don't. Even more so how you think this obvious trick 'ending' Is good at all for the story theyre telling.

To Address a Few Things Off the Bat: I Am a Very VERY Biased Source for a Multitude of Reasons. I Have Been Watching the Show For 8 Years and In That Time Have Picked Up a Lot of Personal and Fandom Related Baggage So I Have a Hard Time Looking at a Character Like Fan Without 8 Years of Feelings Towards Him. Also @ Your S3 Point, I've Actually Been Rewatching Recently to Properly Contextualize It in the Story as Well as View It as a Finished Product. I'm Only 3 Episodes Into That So I Can't Say Much on That Front Currently Other Than a Lot of My Older Opinions on It are Outdated and Also Made When I Was Very Very Angry Haha!

Finally on the General Disclaimers Thing, My Taste in Media is Really Weird in Part Because Inanimate Insanity. I Was Into ii From 13-15 and Then 17-Now. When I Got Back Into it at 17 I Made the Decision to Start Watching Movies and Reading More Books Because I Didn't Want to Limit Myself to ii and Stagnate in My Tastes. This Resulted in Me Seeing a Lot of Things Professionally Known as "Huge Fucking Bummers" and Generally Preferring Bittersweet or Unhappy Endings.

I Like the Fake Ending Because That's What I Typically Enjoy Across the Board. ii Having an Everyone Dies and Mephone Loses Everything End is What Appeals to Me and My Own Interpretation of the Series So I'm Happy. It Might Be Vapid and Emotionally Base But ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I Think I'm Allowed As Much.

To Answer Your Actual Question Though, I Think The Themes of ii are

Existing in a Place Like ii is Damaging for Yourself and Others and Takes a Toll on Your Interpersonal Relationships

There's a Few Others Floating Around Like "Forgiveness" and "What's Real on ii?" But These are the Two I Think are the Most Present and Effect Everything, and I Vastly Prefer the First Over the Second. I Think The First Encourages Interesting Character Dynamics and is At Play With Several of My Favorite Characters (Suitcase, Cabby, Apple, Marshmallow, Paintbrush). The Artist Thing Was Always There But I Just Never Really Cared for How They Executed It.

I Get What the Story Is Going For and Can Probably Atleast Make a Ballpark Swing at It's Ending. Its Steven Universe/Pixar Influences are Worn On Its Sleeve and I Get the Point I Do I Do I Do I Promise But I Just Don't Care for That Sort of Thing Anyways. Is That Unfair Towards ii? Yeah.

On Why I Think ABJ Made This? I Can't Say. Okay okay new flekille angle... Fleki joking about being a "dark elf" and Marcille being uncomfortable about it... Fleki saying it and teasing with it BECAUSE it makes Marcille unsure and uncomfortable.

No because okay okay rundown : 'dark elf' is a catch-all term for elves who show unsavory behavior or commit wrong actions, wether violence, theft, scamming or lying... It being a shorthand for criminals in general is a safe assumption to make, especially since they're classically demonized already.

"Okay but Fleki? Run me through the situation what does it have to do with flekille." Short sociology lesson, because of urgent needs being unable to be met through honest means & with the system favoring others instead, people from poorer more neglected social classes tend to fall into crime & bad crowds more easily. Having less ressources means the 'solutions' you do have are more extreme, wether it be for regulating your mental health or stabilizing your income or living situation. Here's a study link if interested.

Why I think Fleki may have been lower class, before becoming a prisoner? Okay stay with me here, elves are very hierarchal and xenophobic, even while being colonizers. Referring to the area guide blurbs, the northern central continent (NCC) is managed with more restrictions but also more valued in general than the southern central continent (SCC), which also has a widespread elven population. It's said life is "safe and easy" in the NCC, so alongside all the noble elves we have info for come from the NCC, we can see a dynamic form where NCC continent elves are from a higher safer social class than SCC elves.

Another hint of this is the characters' names. If you compare their name origins, a pattern starts appearing where... Well @room-surprise did the work and has more knowledge than me so, the way they put it: "It seems like every elf that has a clearly Germanic or Slavic name is either a criminal or a lower-class person and everyone who is higher class seems to have names that are Latin, Greek, or West/South Asian."

And this seems like a lot of large vague groups options that don't mean much, but this tidbit of info becomes more telling when knowing which races are more associated with what languages and cultures. For a full look into it I recommend this essay, but to get to the point here concisely: 'Fleki' is old norse. 'Otta' and 'Helki' are other elves with old norse names, but for what it's worth Otta is from the NCC, and who knows about Helki's origins. They're the only elves with old norse names at all, but three's a crowd. Who else do we know are scandinavian coded? That's right, Laios and his home region. Tallmen.

Prisoner/non-noble elves tend to have old norse names while none of the noble ones do. And wouldn't that be interesting if tied with tallmen being nordic, wouldn't it be a result of the cultural mixing happening in the less rich regions and the lower social classes, since noble elves are especially xenophobic and uppity about social classes?

Ironically, our protagonist Laios has a greek name, something associated with elves in Dungeon Meshi, but just like Anoutolid and Nussa (two of Laios' father's dogs) could have been picked as names because Laios' father likes names from myths, with the dogs this is canon but in case of Laios it's probably more of a meta joke. ANYWAYS! Go in the essay for more info, all I'm saying is, tallmen = nordic, elves having nordic names = possible cultural mixing, on the continent that canonically has more immigration and less restrictions but is also less safe and 'easy' to live in.

Elves concentrating all their efforts and wealth into the 1% is too real and it checks out. It's also hinted at and mentioned many times through canon and extra info (Misyl's Complete Adventurer's Bible blurb for one) that the canaries overpolice and charge criminals too heavily because they lack manpower, so they want people arrested and want them arrested for longer to have more canaries. Fleki was arrested because of possession and sale of ancient magic artifacts, and only got into ancient magic for the money. Look I'm just saying, it lines up that Fleki would turn to crime because her material conditions weren't great! And as a criminal, she's automatically fit to either having been treated as a dark elf or joke and taunt about it. Especially since the lore info extra on dark elves is set somewhere where tallmen approached unfriendly elves, while this could be a tallman unused to elves outside of rumors thus approaching them with a reckless idealized view, the casualness of it makes me think this is the sort of contact that was likely to happen in an area with a lot of elves and a lot of tallmen living nearby each other, ie the SCC.

Mentioning the Mithrun-Hareus parallels AGAIN but Mithrun and the canaries directly contrast Daltian Clan, it' holds up and makes sense a result especially of Mithrun being hareus' exact lookalike. It's fantasy vs reality of Marcille idealizing Daltian Clan and elven military through General Hareus and novels growing up, then realizing that the real elven military is miserable and very much not glamorous and general Mithrun is dehydrated, rude and after her life. So this plotline about idolizing vs demonizing elves as a race, stances that are very split within the dunmeshi cast, is very Marcille-centric within canon's story. She herself goes from associating with them a lot and being prideful about it & elven customs, to condemning their superiority complex and narrow-mindedness and being on the run from the elven military, before becoming an advisor for a short-lived tallman court, which is seen as dishonorable for elves, as Marcille the half-elf. There's a bit of an arc here, regardless of how much change she actually went through or if it was always just performance on her part that she wasn't really attached to.

So obviously this is all to say that Marcille having a romance with a very underprivileged elf, a "dark elf", would be not only compelling but relevant. FLEKILLE SUPREMACY!!!!!

Half-elf woman who drank the koolaid a bit growing up and idolized elves and tried her best to fit the image of one x woman who knows personally the shortcomings of that same idolized society and embodies that a bit, who breaks that elegant image by being crass and unapologetic and a criminal prisoner, who would have no problem breaking Marcille's fantasies about it, a full elf who still grew up disadvantaged and demonized. Marcille has been emulating elves all her life, perhaps in the hopes of being accepted more or feeling a bigger sense of cultural belonging, but Fleki is there, showing her hey, it isn't that great anyways, hey it doesn't matter squat if you're an elf or not people will always find excuses to mistreat you anyways. It's Fleki taunting and saying come be dark elves with me and Marcille coming to understand and replying no, we're both just elves.

Yeayeayeah!! Honestly I’ve been meaning to sit down and write some descriptions/summaries for them, here’s some quick ones for now!!

First off, this post has links to almost all the comics so that should hopefully be helpful!!

Painted Illusions is a protégé Tommy au that starts at the end of exile. Dream comes back early to find Tommy on the tower and pulls him down. From then on Dream coerces Tommy to work with him and has him involved in building the attachment hall, setting off tnt machines on doomsday, and learning + testing the revive book lots of times (though not on himself, thankfully) He then gives Tommy is final task: to rid of his last attachment by killing Tubbo.

This au is split up in two seasons, labeled the same as the dsmp seasons. Season 2 focuses on Tommy’s time with Dream and the abuse he faces, along with some peaks into other characters povs at the time. Season 3 focuses on Tommy’s rocky road to recovery as he figures out how to move forward with such a heavy past that’s keen to haunt him. (Plus some people who want to make his life more difficult but we haven’t gotten there yet ahgg)

Distorted Illusions is a spinoff au of Painted Illusions that starts on disc confrontation. In this timeline Clingyduo aren’t saved by the server so Tommy is forced to kill Tubbo. Due to losing his best friend + all the accumulated trauma and abuse, Tommy snaps and kills Dream then revives both Tubbo and Wilbur. That aforementioned trauma also fills him with lots of paranoia so he forces Tubbo and Wilbur to live with him out in the middle of nowhere so there’s no chance of him ever being alone again. (unless…)

This au’s timeline is more loose and messy, the two eras being Tommy’s deterioration and The Healing Arc. (at least that’s what I’m calling it for now?) I jump back and forth between them when posting art but I do my best to make it clear which era I’m drawing 👍

Arm Eyes AU is the same as Painted Illusions except instead of painted eyes on his arms, Tommy gains real arm eyes just like Dream (hence the name skdhjd) There’s not much extra story here, except the time Dream blinds one of Tommy’s normal eyes… This au was more of an excuse to draw Tommy as a little creature guy and explore that creatureness since Dream doesn’t really revel in that part of himself haha

to answer ur question, unfortunately, i have not written any of the chapters further than chapter 6 (which is halfway completed atm). but i do have all the chapters up until chapter 17 PLANNED in my notes:

i have another file for events that must occur (e.g. how i see them conversing during the angst, how i see the other characters’ reactions to the angst, the narration points that must be mentioned, etc).

so while none of the angst has been written yet, it’s very much been planned already (written down and also mentally prepared). the parts that haven’t been included in a chapter yet will be formed and built together as the story progresses.

this story will have way more than 17 chapters tho. wayyy more than 17 chapters. so… fear not? or maybe you should. idk.

going to ramble a little abt my thoughts on betsy kelso (finally!) being introduced in pt 3 :P cause i have many thoughts, and i need to get them out!

overall i do have to say im pretty excited- i always found it kinda strange that kelso + brooke was a pretty big storyline in t70s, but betsy wasn't mentioned at all in earlier apisodes of t90s. i do think it'll be rly cool to see the kelso siblings interact though, and i've rly been hoping she would come along!

i have seen a few ppl saying that it's weird that jay like... hasn't mentioned having a sister at all until now, and while i agree that it is strange, i do think the writers will find a way around that. half-sibling relationships can be complicated (i would know), and there's no one correct way to have a relationship with your siblings. especially when keeping in mind that betsy + jay share a dad (not just any dad, but kelso), and not a mom.

there's a stereotype that half-siblings that share a mom tend to be closer than half-siblings that share a dad. while i definitely dont think this is always true, i do believe the writers will probably end up using this to their advantage; i could see nate + gwen (who share a mom, and are definitely pretty close) being seen as the opposites of betsy + jay.

not only that, but betsy probably grew up in chicago! it's safe to assume that the kelsos grew up hours apart, and naturally wouldn't be as close as siblings who grew up in the same home. honestly, i think there'd be more of a chance of leia + betsy being close, seeing as how donna and brooke were friends before brooke had even met kelso. i could totally see them as having been childhood friends :)

but at the end of the day, t70s has never been known for having superb, accurate timelines, and that's okay! to see t90s following in those wonky footsteps isn't a bad thing- at the end of the day, it's just a sitcom. and i'm excited to see how this all plays out!!
