Shouldn't there be a minotaur in the labyrinth? Who put this goat here? This is not accurate to the mythology! /j

Read Chapter 12 Here!
The group is reunited, though tensions are a little high and trust has been worn thin. Everyone wants answers, but when the Daycare Attendant returns from Moon’s patrol, all they bring with them are more questions. Protocol. Programming. If the puzzle doesn’t make sense, are you sure you have the right pieces?
---
Ouugh, it's finally done! I sketched out this cover about a year ago, but their clasped hands gave me a ton of trouble and I shelved it-- until a couple of months ago, when I just banged out the hands and then kept rolling from there!
There's a decent bit of symbolism related to the chapter worked in here, as well as a lot of me learning how water works. Detail shots + textless versions below!

What if I told you that RoobrickMarine went and wrote an entire novella starring my 16th century dog couple? It's very canon-adjacent, well researched and thoughtfully put together, has inspired me a ton during these past months and it's now publicly available at AO3. I highly recommend it.

Bonus little dude, he a part of a diagram explaining some lore but it doesn't make a ton of sense without knowing other lore from this AU I haven't shared.

i really enjoy the contrast between jjk and dandadan's approach to the question of what it means to be human, specifically in how cursed spirits/evil spirits are perceived by the protagonists. where jjk is more philosophical and within the context of the story's universe ("humans and their inherent humanity; a clash of ideologies"), dandadan feels like a real world answer to that—within the first seven animated episodes, we've been introduced to two "big bads," both of which have been given gut-wrenching backgrounds, painfully human in a way that sobers the audience stunned. (appreciatively, i say) it gets too fucking real.
but i like the contrast in delivery and impact. where jjk reads like an almost stoic outline to a loaded question, dandadan is the raw pumping heart that colors within. mapping veins, living blood. what does it mean to be human? spirit or not, at the end of the day, it's all just human business.

Brakul's five favorite khait out of the twelve he personally owns, a number that is considered (for the city and for how relatively rare and expensive many of these color morphs and breeds are) insane. Four of the twelve are his own purchases, and eight come from his horsegirl shit being uncritically enabled by a rich boyfriend.
Gantoche (Wardi name, directly translates to ox-eyed). Gelding. A lithe Burri riding breed with 'wildtype' markings and excellent endurance in hot conditions. Very vocal, he incessantly moos at everything. Closely bonded with She Bites.
Emense (Wardi word that closely translates to 'beloved' 'dear one'). Mare. Her breed is uncertain, as she was taken from a semi-feral herd as a foal. Exceptionally mellow and gentle natured, with a habit of staring intently at passerby with her unnerving eyes. Used for khait wrestling. His absolute favorite of the bunch.
She Bites (named for obvious reasons). Mare. A sturdy, surefooted riding and pack breed from the Greathill region. She has mellowed in her middle age, now only occasionally demanding the sacrifice of fingers.
Aganne (Wardi name stemming from the word for 'blue'). Gelding. A racing breed developed in Erubinnos with genetic input from the Lowlands countryside to the southeast. A friendly khait with a playful personality.
Pyliod (Urbinnas name stemming from the word for year-round mountain snow). Bull. An absolutely gorgeous and distinctly stupid individual. A draft breed from Ephennos.

Maybe Jane Austen's real genius was that, unlike other authors at the time, she didn't have long sections where characters share their backstory. Or rather, when she did it, she set it up like a mystery so we'd want to know the backstory.
Instead of having a character be like, "Here's three chapters about my life," soon after showing up in the novel, she'd sprinkle little clues through the story that make us wonder, "What's Colonel Brandon's deal?" and then closer to the end of the story, Colonel Brandon would tell us what his deal was. We'd wonder "Why does Mr. Darcy do all those horrible things?" and then he'd give an explanation that includes a lot of backstory.
And these infodumps always come in response to significant moments of the story. She'd engage our minds and our emotions and then give us the infodump at a point when we care about the information it contains. Compared to some other authors (even some that came long after) it seems like a significant innovation.

“When toxic behavior is portrayed as romantic, it’s problematic. When problematic behavior is portrayed as a character flaw for a character to work through, it’s good storytelling.”
Katsuki Bakugou, my friends.
His behavior was problematic but never once portrayed as romantic at the same time. Katsuki said and did awful abusive things, and he also chose to be better when he was given the chance. If you’re still hung up on chapter 1 Katsuki now then I don’t think you’ve been reading the same story I have.
I can’t speak for everyone, but Im not shipping Izuku with an irredeemable abuser. I’m shipping him with his most important person. His narrative foil. His childhood friend who made awful mistakes and then made it right when he saw he was wrong. The person Izuku looks up to and strives to emulate, despite their past struggles.
Bakudeku is so good because of how flawed these boys are, and how hard they’ve worked to get over it, and how much they matter to each other after it all

“They were once again standing on either side of the elegant stone pensieve, white-knuckled hands gripping its edges as they stared, wide-eyed, at each other. Their faces were so close together that the air Eloise breathed out was inhaled by Sebastian.
They stayed like that for seconds, minutes, hours, unable - unwilling - to break the spell.”
