The Underwater Surprise
Since I will miss my dear tweels' birthday due to the lack of Internet in my home at the moment, I figured I could at least prepare something for my Octavinelle boys.
And to clear any confusion, the s/o is turned into an octopus mermaid for Azul and an eel mermaid for the Leech twins.
|Enjoy, Love|
~ Genie ~
Tumblr media
The Octavinelle Trio w/ a fem!s/o who gets turned into a mermaid due to an alchemy accident
Azul Ashengrotto
»       Well, he is certainly surprised when Ace ran into the VIP room at Mostro Lounge, begging Azul to come take care of his s/o while he explains the situation to Professor Crewel
»       So following Ace to the NRC indoor pool and seeing his s/o poking her eyes out of the water set off alarms in his mind
»       Though before he could get one word out, the first year was out the door, leaving a baffled Azul and his poor s/o alone
»       Looking back towards her and finally noticing light purple limbs in the water around her, Azul furrowed his eyebrows and inched closer to the edge of the pool, minding his s/o's comfort zone
»       When his gaze falls on the squirming tentacles around his s/o's body, a blush raises on his cheeks, mind wandering to how is it possible that she was now like him, an octopus mermaid
»       Nevertheless, Azul sits at the edge of the pool, slowly comforting his s/o and instructing her on how to control the eight appendages while internally fantasising on them swimming together through the Coral Sea
»       If she asks nicely, and maybe jokes about how she is soft and squishy now too, he might join her in the water in his merman form, wrapping his tentacles around her in a sort of a hug and generally being gratefull that his s/o isn't disgusted by her current appearance or his real body
Jade Leech
»       He would quirk an eyebrow when a first year student nervously approaches him during his shift, quickly mumbling something about his s/o being in the middle of an alchemy accident and that she is at the NRC pool, before running out of Mostro Lounge
»       Jade would calmly make his way to the pool, wondering what his beloved s/o has gotten herself into now
»       But as soon as his eyes meet his s/o's, her sitting on the pool steps with a long tail wiggling in the water, Jade's usual gentlemanly expression would be replaced by a teasing grin as he walked over to crouch down next to her
»       As she explained the unfortunate event that left her trapped in an unfamiliar form, he admired her new teal colored tail and scales running up her arms and abdomen
»       Then upon her mentioning that she has no idea how to swim as a mermaid, Jade's grin widens, saying that he will gladly show her
»       Before she could question his words, he's already in the pool, transformed in his eel form and holding his hand out for her to take
»       So, all up until Professor Crewel shows up with an antidote, Jade will be slowly pulling his s/o along the surface of the water, teaching her how to swim in her changed body and stopping every so often to nuzzle her hair and twine their tails together, whispering praises of how well she's doing
Floyd Leech
»       Grim bursting into the Mostro Lounge and screeching for Floyd to come see you as soon as possible amused said twin to no end
»       However, Floyd cheerly skipped off to the pool area, all the while preparing to give his sweet s/o a big squeeze when he sees them
»       What he wasn't expecting, was catching glimpse of his little Shrimpy sitting at the bottom of the swimming pool, a pout on her face as she tried to, albeit uselessly, kick her tail so she could get back up to the surface
»       A huge smile spread across Floyd's face when he reallized that she is now an eel just like him!
»       Without a second thought, he jumped into the water, changing into his merman form and quickly swimming over to his very shocked s/o
»       After finally squeezing the living daylights out of her, he starts dragging his s/o through the water and exclaiming how he can finally show her what it's like to live underwater
»       When Floyd exhausted her, he would, for once, calm down a little bit and pull his s/o in for a snuggle session, running his hands over her tail and fins, while mentioning how now that they match, she could go back to the Coral Sea during the summer break

Tell Me What You’re Thinking (pt.1/2)
Tumblr media
Yandere merman!Shinsou Hitoshi x gn!Reader
Summary: Studying abroad on a remote tropical island, a life threatening event prompts a certain merman to come to your rescue. Coincidence or not, the meeting results in his intentions being set in stone.
All characters are aged up (18+).
Warnings for this part: drowning, injury, swearing, suggestions of poor parenting
Words: 6.8k+
a/n: This fic is my entry for @bnhabookclub‘s Mermay event! It’s not my usual style but I tried my best―definitely need to practice different au’s. For context Shinsou can still use his quirk, he’s just also a merman at the same time. That and he’s a soft yandere for the most part. Hope you enjoy!
Prompts: 13. “It’s all right. Come here.” 7. “It’s really not that complicated (used in the second part).”
_____
The path of least resistance proved to be quite useful in the recent years.
It wouldn’t be your first option under ideal circumstances, but such a thing wasn’t currently present in your life anyways. Occasionally it would grace your day to day living, but for the most part passing occurrences tended to be on the less enjoyable side.
Whether you should be grateful or not was beyond you, but in this unchanging routine you managed to grow accustomed to things. It lead you into a complacency of sorts―not preferring it in any manner, but still having the understanding that sometimes it was easier to let the world dictate your actions for you.
And right now, this complacency had earned you the opportunity for travel.
Specifically, an offer to study abroad to work on a take home final for your university class. Four weeks on a remote tropical island with your fellow students and accompanying professors. Done with intentions to gather otherwise unobtainable first-hand experience and, more importantly, data that would significantly improve your final grade―only if you managed your time wisely.
The opportunity was impossible to pass up.
You weren’t the biggest fan of flying, or boating―really anything that had you leaving the comfort of land. But as usual these bothers weren’t considered when you were being so heavily advised to pack your things and take advantage of the ‘once in a lifetime opportunity.’
Sometimes you tried making an attempt to discern what warranted such treatment being placed upon you. Not once could you seem to recall any one event that may have ended with the conclusion that it was acceptable for you to be handled in such a manner. To have your limits disregarded so thoughtlessly.
Maybe it was because the limits in question were more so mental in nature. They weren’t outwardly observable, and so it made it acceptable.
Of course, you knew that wasn’t the truth.
But with this perhaps you could catch a break from the pressures of your loved ones. If you did well enough in your studies, they might just tone down their expectations enough to give you the room to decide something for yourself.
It was settled―you would once again take the plunge into semi-uncertainty. Mostly for the sake of others, and only marginally to satiate your need for freedom.
You’d been on the island for a little over a week, and in that time you’d managed to scope out the perfect spot for collecting the samples you needed for your paper.
It was secluded―a rocky area that was just slightly raised from the sea level that was home to multiple small ocean pools. They were filled with very particular types of marine life. Ones that you had chosen to focus on after hearing just where you’d be travelling to. In the ecosystem you found yourself in the possibilities for research were quite extensive. There may have been less taxing options, ones that didn’t lead you to the ends of the island all by yourself. But those wouldn’t earn you the validation you desired.
So instead you came to terms with your situation as usual and gathered up your equipment for the journey. Almost every day just an hour after dinner you would head to the rocky expanse of the seemingly endless beach. The weather was comfortable, a light breeze to stave off the heat with the sun not close enough to the horizon for it to be getting too dark, but low enough to begin emitting the intricate display of warm coloured clouds drifting slowly above.
In the moments where you simply sat and took in your surroundings, the thought came to mind that perhaps you would be able to focus on something that wasn’t directly related to the pressure you were under to succeed. If these were the conditions, the clarity that came along with relaxation might be possible.
For now however, you needed to be focused on what you truly came here for.
It was roughly quarter after six in the evening. You had set your backpack down on a rock that was raised above the pools of water and used the rest of the free surface as a makeshift table. On it you placed a clean sample jar with the lid popped off in wait for the contents that you were currently fishing around for.
If there was one thing being pressured into studying was good for, it was having the image of what you were looking for committed to memory.
It was nothing special, just a remnant of the marine life that took up residence in the little pools you were currently crouched in front of. You carefully extracted the sample out of the water, placing it in the little container.
Part of you should be proud of what you were doing. University classes weren’t always the easiest. Your course was just as difficult as any other―disregarding the fact that you probably wouldn’t have gone into it if it weren’t for the ‘advice’ of your family. The research you were currently conducting was more than satisfactory.
Yet, as you looked at the now filled sample container, part of you couldn’t help but want to accomplish more. You didn’t need to―your pace so far was good for what you were trying to get done in the time you were given on the island. But it was second nature to want to perform above satisfactory expectations.
You knew that the area you were in was home to a certain species of coral that would greatly improve the chances of you earning a better GPA. Based on where you were, it would take a small swim just off the shoreline to reach its natural habitat.
Doing a cost-benefit analysis, you decided that it was worth the brief struggle. It was likely that the coral wouldn’t be too far underwater, meaning you wouldn’t require any special diving equipment. You were already wearing a bathing suit, and before leaving had packed a belt bag that could be worn underwater should you need to bring any sample collection gear with you while swimming.
Technically, you should be asking for help when it came to something like this. There was a certain danger to it―being in the ocean by yourself. If you knew any better then maybe you would’ve asked for assistance. However, it simply wasn’t in your nature to do so.
There was always a resistance in your mind when you wanted to work with others. An anxiety of sorts. Time and time again had you tried to overcome it, and each instance had you failing. Now was no different.
Your bag was strapped securely to your body, pulled tight so it didn’t shift around too much in the water. Without the ability to force yourself to go back to the cabins and request a second set of hands, there was quite literally nothing holding you back.
The ocean water was startlingly icy as you let it submerge your lower limbs. The feeling wasn’t pleasant, but it was temporary. You’d be quick―collect the sample and then gratefully retreat to the warmth of dry clothes and eventually the soft bed in your assigned room back inland.
Gradually, the frigid liquid crept up your body as you waded forward. Shivering slightly at the sensation, you willed your mind to ignore the uncomfortableness. And thankfully enough, after spending a few minutes with the water at neck-level, you became more accustomed to the sensation.
The easy part was over.
Pushing off from the sandy ocean floor underneath, you swam away from the coast. It was only roughly ten or fifteen feet away, but already you were having problems seeing the earth below. The sight was unsettling, to say the least.
What it did mean however was that you should be in the perfect spot where the coral you were hunting for could be found. It wasn’t rare or anything―you should be able to see it no problem. But you had to go underwater first before that was possible.
For a moment you hesitated. You weren’t exactly afraid of the ocean, but the concept of such a vast unexplored space wasn’t exactly comforting. Sure, you weren’t in any sort of area that was frighteningly undiscovered, but the thought that such a thing did exist didn’t help in calming your nerves.
But you digress―the take home final was more important than any passing worries over your predicament.
The feeling of being so completely engulfed in the water sent a shock through your system. So much so that you had to resurface for a few seconds to get your bearings. Once you’d settled down once again, you plunged yourself underneath the water. Only after a second or two of swimming further below the surface and you had come face to face with your target. You went back up for a breath and to extract a sample bottle from your bag.
It was then you took notice of the particularly strong winds that had picked up since you entered the ocean.
They wouldn’t have been a problem if it weren’t for the waves it was forming under its influence. Small at first, but in the distance you could see them forming as well. Meaning that by the time they reached your position they would be bigger―much bigger.
But they were still far away. You had time.
With a little more haste you maneuvered yourself under the water until you were able to grasp the cluster of raised rock littered with marine plant life to steady yourself. Holding your breath, you tried working the coral off its hinges with a gloved hand.
It would seem coral was much stronger than you once thought.
The sturdy and jagged material was proving difficult to remove from the rocks it stuck to, and you were running out of air. The concept of having to make more than one trip under the surface wasn’t ideal, but your lung capacity wouldn’t support otherwise.
With rushed movements you emerged from the water, sucking in deep breaths of relieving oxygen.
But that was short lived.
It would seem the waves were moving faster than initially perceived. Now they were forceful enough that one sent you plummeting back under the salt water.
You couldn’t make heads or tails of which direction you were facing. The current of the waves was jostling your body in every way imaginable. Limbs flailing, you tried desperately to steady yourself. Yet you were no match for the strength of the ocean, and there was nothing in reach to hold on to.
For a moment of brief reprieve you were pulled back above the violent waves. Lungs already slightly filled with water, you sputtered into a coughing fit. Your eyes were frantic as they searched the shoreline, but there was nobody to help you.
If only you weren’t cowardly enough to have gone back and requested assistance in your now failed expedition.
Another wave collided harshly against your body, this time with much more power. It caught you off guard and in the middle of gasping for air. The final half of your breath was cut short, oxygen replaced with the frigid ocean water.
It burned. Your lungs couldn’t handle the intrusion, reflexively demanding another response of inhalation. If it weren’t for the already present liquid, tears would’ve been seen running heavily down your cheeks.
You couldn’t breath.
The current made you sway violently, pushing you deeper into the depths. Finally you collided with something, but the relief was short lived.
Sure, you were able to steady yourself, but now there was a more pressing issue.
A loose strap that was meant to tighten your belt bag had been caught on the jagged edges of the rock. Somehow tangled or wedged between the surface―it held you down under the crashing waves above.
The effects of the storm was causing your limbs to scrape painfully against the rock and coral with each sway of the current. Your lungs were filled, heart pounding against your ribcage.
Was this how you died?
Your mind was racing with a slew of thoughts all pertaining to potential escape plans.
But there were none. You couldn’t free yourself, and even if you did the storm would only pull you back under.
You choked aggressively on the water, body unnaturally convulsing. Black spots were forming in your vision as you registered that there was nothing stopping you from losing consciousness.
In a last ditch effort you tried pulling at the buckle that was holding the bag to your chest. Your luck only got worse―it was somehow stuck and would not unlatch.
Your last moments of struggling were futile. No matter what you did, or how hard you fought, you were going to drown.
As your mind slowly drifted into unconsciousness, your eyes just barely registered the thrashing waters around you. And yet, just before you succumbed to the darkness, you could’ve sworn something in the water caught the light, almost reflecting it. Whatever it was, it seemed to be quite large.
But that’s all you could comprehend―body going limp, along with your ability to stay awake any longer.
_____
The feeling of a hard surface underneath you was the first thing your brain identified. After your eyes opened, it was the sensation of some form of fleece blanketing your body.
You could still smell the ocean―hear it too. A sharp pain shot through your neck and spine as you forced yourself into a sitting position.
A cave.
There were no exits, at least not ones you could get to on foot. But you could swim.
To your right was a pool of water, and just vaguely you could see light shining through an underwater tunnel. Even then it was just barely there, meaning it had been quite some time since you blacked out, the sun likely setting for the night.
Oh right...you drowned.
The memories came flooding back. You ripped off the blanket, revealing an almost even more shocking sight. Your limbs, mainly your legs and a few patches on your arms, had been wrapped and padded with...seaweed?
That was most definitely not on your body before. Arriving fully to attention, a wave of panic came over you.
How did you get here? Why was there seaweed coating parts of your body? And most importantly―how on earth were you not dead?
Experimentally, you reached for a piece of plant life that was stuck to your skin. It was clear someone placed it there, and likely placed you in the cave, but who?
Peeling off the slimy layer revealed some equally alarming information. It wasn’t obvious when it was hidden, but now you could see the rough scrapes and cuts that littered your legs. The wounds didn’t hurt, but they didn’t feel comfortable either. There was some form of slimy substance coating it, which thoroughly grossed you out. In fact, the whole thing grossed you out.
Your body practically acted on its own, fueled by the feeling of disgust and unsettling anxiety. One after the other you ripped the seaweed from your limbs, exposing more gashes and marred flesh under each application.
You had no clue how you ended up in the cave, and if that wasn’t enough to disturb you, someone had put their hands all over your body to encase you in the questionable greenery while you were out.
One thing was for sure―you needed to get the fuck out of here.
Looking around, you figured it was worth giving the cave a once over in case there were any escapes that didn’t involve you blindly swimming through an airless underwater tunnel. And as you scanned the room you found there were still no alternatives. What you did pick up on though was the almost lived in aspect of the cave.
Somehow the stone walls were receded in parts above the water. They were like makeshift shelves, and in the crevices held an array of miscellaneous items. One spot seemed to be designated for various jars and tubs. Some were filled with unrecognizable substances, while others had equally foreign objects floating in semi clear liquid.
Eyes shifting to another display, you landed on a collection of trinkets. Mostly in the form of jewelry―a few rings, necklaces, even what looked to be a fairly expensive watch.
Someone was living here. It was good news. It meant that you should be able to swim out to safety in one breath.
You’d spent enough time taking in your surroundings. It was time to leave and hopefully never have to experience something like this again.
Yet, as you tried standing up, the pain of your injuries seem to catch up with you. To be fair you weren’t expecting it, so you didn’t feel entirely ashamed for falling right back onto the cold and slightly sandy rock. It was almost laughable―how you were foolish enough to land yourself in this predicament.
And in that distracted mindspace you managed to calm your nerves slightly, but it also drew your attention away from the pool of water that you should be plunging into for escape. You didn’t want to wait to find out who brought you here, but it was too late for that now.
Just as you mustered up the strength to pull yourself to the water’s edge, your eyes landed on something moving beneath the rippling surface. Something big.
And it was getting closer.
Frantically, you scrambled back a few feet from whatever was in the body of ocean water. Not a moment later and the thing had made its way to the surface.
It emerged―a man.
No.
There was a tail.
There was...a tail?
“Are you alright?”
And the creature spoke.
Peculiar was an understatement. The top half―its human half―looked normal. The man had deep indigo coloured hair, face sporting some impressive eye-bags. His voice sounded human enough―on the lower side but nonetheless indisputably ordinary.
However from what you could see from your position, the lower part of his body was entirely inhuman. Straight out of a mythology book―he had a long, scaly looking fish tail that was coloured the same as his hair―except it was shimmery, maybe even iridescent.
What on earth were you supposed to say in a situation like this?
He must’ve caught on to your speechlessness, judging the unmoving expression of shock on your face. “I found you trapped underneath the current. Your bag was tangled in some coral so I had to cut you out of it.”
Looking down, you saw that he was correct―your belt bag was missing.
Apparently he wasn’t done with his speech, “I brought you back here to take care of your injuries but―why did you remove the bandages?” You watched as his confused eyes scanned your form, taking in the exposed cuts and bruises that painted your delicate skin.
You said the first thing that came to mind. “Where am I?”
Without missing a beat, he responded. “My home. Why did you remove the bandages?”
...Is that really what he’s worried about right now?
Forming words proved to be a difficult task when you were suffering from a shock to your once perceived reality. Surely you were dreaming. There was no way a fish...man, was talking to you right now. Right?
“I just―I didn’t know what it was. So I...took it off?” You were hoping that you’d wake up any moment now. But as time drew on that wish seemed to grow less likely to come true.
Reality didn’t matter―you needed to know. “Are you like a...mermaid, or something?”
Eyebrows slightly furrowed in what looked to be annoyance, the man responded. “Merman, actually.”
It was like this was just another regular occurrence for the merman. He acted completely unfazed by you discovering his existence, whether he felt different about it mentally or not.
“Okay, so why didn’t you just bring me back to the shore?” You prided yourself in not stuttering over your words despite your brain doing mental gymnastics trying to comprehend the situation.
He shifted in the water a bit, resting his hands on the stone where the water and dry earth met. “You were bleeding too much. If I brought you back to the beach you may have died from it. And even if you didn’t the storm was too rough―you would’ve been swept back out into the ocean.”
The events were discussed so matter-of-factly that it disregarded just how much danger you were in. It baffled you how he managed to stop the bleeding. Actually, you weren’t even sure where the bleeding would’ve been coming from. Looking over your wounds, none of them seemed to go deep enough to require such attention. If anything, they looked quite healthy―healed even.
Now that you didn’t need to be so wrapped up in the concern over your physical state, the gravity of the situation came falling down upon you. This complete stranger of a creature had dragged you to who knows where, and as far as you could tell getting out might just be impossible.
The colour effectively drained from your face.
It just so happened that the merman would continue to be perceptive to your reactions. “I was just waiting for you to wake up so I could bring you back. You’re safe here, I promise.”
His words brought untold relief to your anxieties, yet you still needed a little more reassurance. “That’s good. So you’re not gonna, like―”
“What, eat you?” He gave a half-hearted chuckle at the thought, “I’m not a monster. And even if I did want to don’t you think I would've done it already?”
It wasn’t what you were going to ask, but realistically your intentions on the subject didn’t matter all that much in the moment.
The indigo haired man sighed, likely expecting a response. “Look, I just wanted to help you. That’s it.”
Help you. That wasn’t something you were normally accustomed to.
You had problems asking for assistance on your own, and even if you wanted to there was never really many who would be willing to indulge you.
The sentiment he offered was nice. Even nicer was that it wasn’t just an offer―he already had helped you. He’d saved your life. It was more than anyone else had done for you throughout your many years of living.
It was nice, to say the least.
But you still needed to get back to the beach. “So, are you gonna help me get out of here now? Cause I don’t exactly know where that exit leads to
”
He smiled slightly, the most positive emotion you’d seen him express since emerging from the depths. “Of course, I did say I would after all.”
Your eyes followed his hand as it outstretched towards you. The first reaction you had was to automatically take it, but you stopped halfway through the motion when you registered his physique.
He had claws.
They weren’t long, but they were for sure sharp looking. You hesitated in your advance.
“It’s all right. Come here.” He gestured to you to approach, but still you wavered. “I won’t hurt you, little human.”
Not that you weren’t still wary of the dangerous looking appendages, but you didn’t exactly have a choice. He was your ticket out of the cave after all.
Without a word you took his hand. He gently guided you to the edge of the water, supporting your weight as you clambered into the ocean pool.
There were still small waves entering from the mouth of the cave, a weak current lightly hitting your body. It was enough to wash away whatever substance the merman had applied to your injuries. Now that they were clean, you could see just how much they’d healed in the short amount of time.
You could think about how that was even possible when you were back on land.
When the man spoke again it startled you slightly, him being so close. “The tunnel is long. I’m afraid that even if I swim fast you’ll still run out of air before we break the surface.”
The statement made you panic a little, eyes going wide.
He continued before you could give your take. “I’ll have to give you some air halfway through, just let me know when you need a breath and everything should be okay.” The merman pulled you into his chest as he spoke, one arm wrapped around your waist while the other gripped your upper arm.
“Wait―how are you even gonna do that?” As far as you could tell he wasn’t carrying an oxygen tank or anything of the sort.
Looking down at you with a slight smirk on his face, he responded. “You trust me, right? I’m not going to let you drown, don’t worry.”
That didn’t really answer your question, but he wasn’t done. “And I’m your only way out of here so does it really matter? That is unless you want to stay here with me forever.”
Frankly, you had no clue what he meant by ‘giving you air,’ but he was right―how he kept you alive wasn’t all that important in the grand scheme of things. Before you could make a point to push your concerns he pulled the two of you underwater. You thanked the heavens you were able to fill your lungs with air the second before you were submerged, inwardly cursing the man for not giving you a heads up.
Your body was flushed to his, and as he swam you could appreciate the robustness of his frame. It was impressive, and if it weren’t for the stress of the situation you may have liked to take more time to admire it.
It was hard to keep your eyes open as the water rushed past you. That was indication enough of just how fast you were going, and you realized just how screwed you would’ve been if you had tried to make your way out of the cave by yourself. If you didn’t drown before, making that attempt would surely do the trick.
The two of you were roughly twenty seconds into the swim when you felt the burning in your lungs start to become unbearable. Without knowing what his methods of relief were, you held out as long as possible without asking for help. Yet it was only a few more seconds and your body was practically screaming at you to breath.
He didn’t tell you how to get his attention, so you opted to rapping on his chest with one hand. Thankfully, he stopped his journey towards the exit immediately after you began thrashing in his arms. Still slightly drifting forward in the water as a result of his momentum, he brought your body to be eye level with his. Not a moment too soon and he was pressing his lips firmly against yours, hands gripping the sides of your face to still you. And then you realized―this was how he was going to supply you oxygen.
Your lips parted and a relieving wave of air was forced into your lungs. He pulled away a moment later and you pursed your lips once again to contain the air. You hoped he didn’t see the faint blush on your cheeks as he pulled you back into his chest and continued swimming.
Another twenty seconds and you felt him angle upwards, and much to your relief you felt the water break around you.
Sound finally returned to your ears, having been previously replaced with the muffledness of rushing water. You blinked a few times to clear your eyes, readjusting to your surroundings. The sun was setting now, having lowered much closer to the horizon and casting a whole new set of colours upon the clouds.
“That wasn’t so bad, was it?” His teasing attitude wasn’t entirely appreciated, but it did help to alleviate the stress of the situation somewhat.
“I guess, not...thanks.” You gave him a small smile to show that you were grateful, given that your own tone was still a little shaky from the strange events that were taking place.
The merman allowed you some space now that he didn’t have to drag your body through the water alongside his. “The beach isn’t too far from here.”
From where you treaded you could see the shore clearly in the distance. You followed him as he began heading in that direction, presumably going at a slower pace seeing as you didn’t exactly have the same swimming capabilities as he did.
While staying above the waterline, the man continued the conversation. “So, I believe that it wouldn’t be too much to ask you to keep quiet about my existence. Not that anyone would believe you anyways, but still―in exchange for saving your life I think it's fair.”
Somehow it took him saying it to remember that you’d forgot to thank him for doing so. Sure, you thanked him for bringing you out of the cave, but that was a requirement if he wanted to free up his home once again. It was a little embarrassing, but you gave yourself some slack as nothing right now was anywhere near a sense of normalcy. “Ah―yeah, I think I can do that.”
He smiled at your sheepish reply, giving you the idea that he picked up on your abashed emotions.
The rest of the journey to the shore was done in silence. He would never go too far ahead of you, and for a moment you wondered why he didn’t just pull you the rest of the way there as well. It would’ve saved more time, but you weren’t exactly in the position to be judging him on his actions given all he’d done for you.
Eventually you reached the mainland, much to your gratification. He helped you up onto the rocks that were jutting out of the waterline―the area that kept the ocean pools you were studying. In fact, he had brought you right up to where your bag was still laid.
Still feeling a little ashamed for how much of a burden you’d been, you gave him one last condolence. “Thanks again. I don’t know how you found me but I’m glad you did. The last thing my parents need is to hear their daughter drowned trying to work on her final.” Awkwardly, you rubbed the back of your neck. It felt like you were oversharing, and at this point you should probably just shut up and head back to the cabins. Yet strangely enough the phenomenon of your realization that such a creature did exist was still very much enticing. You didn’t want to stop talking to him.
He stayed at the edge of the rocks, “It’s no problem. You should go back to wherever you’re staying on the island to rest. It’s getting late anyways.”
His concern was appreciated, but still―a small part of you was sad you would have to part ways with this otherworldly being.
“Ah―right. Um, I was just―”
“I’m Hitoshi, by the way. I’ll be here if you ever need me. Take care, (y/n).”
With that he was pushing off the rocks, and before you could get another word out―if that was even possible―he was already underwater. You saw as the slowly dimming sunlight reflected off his indigo tail, and in a matter of seconds he was so far submerged that his body entirely disappeared.
Well, that wasn’t how you expected your afternoon to go.
You had to take a few minutes to collect your thoughts, mostly consisting of you questioning everything you thought you once knew.
Briefly, you wondered just what people would say if you told them what happened to you. That you got stuck on coral, drowned, and then were rescued by a merman.
They wouldn’t believe you.
Maybe the drowning part, but the rest...not so much.
But even if they did believe you, there was no way you would break your promise to the man. He helped you―saved you. Nobody had ever shown you so much kindness, and it wouldn’t be right to just disregard that for the sake of attention.
Having had your full on adventures for the night, you quickly gathered your previously abandoned belongings. With a bag once again stuffed full of research equipment, you made your way back to the cabins.
And naturally, no matter how much you tried that night, sleep was immensely difficult to achieve. How could it not be―there was now a plethora of things to think about and you couldn’t tell a single soul. Frustrating was an understatement, but it was also kind of nice. The act of compassion the merman―no―Hitoshi, gave you was causing a certain feeling of warmth. It felt comforting.
You recalled his last words, saying he’d be there for you if you needed it. It was likely just a quick send off so he could get out of your way and return home. Yet the sentiment was still appreciated.
Eventually you managed to fall asleep, this time not doing so under the influence of painfully salty ocean water.
_____
Waking up wasn’t the most pleasant―there was a hoarse burning sensation in your lungs. Not that it wasn’t present the day before, but now it would seem that the effects of them being filled with a liquid that they should most definitely not be filled with was taking a toll. Whether it was swelling or simply the after affects of salt remaining in them didn’t really matter.
You popped some pain reliever into your mouth, wincing at the feeling as it slid down your throat.
Regardless of yesterday’s events you still had a schedule to follow. However doing so proved to be a challenge. At each task you were met with you found your thoughts drifting back to the strange encounter. At breakfast, sitting down at a worktable, lunch, editing a portion of your report―everything had you returning to contemplation over Hitoshi at least once.
It was safe to say that you didn’t get as much work done as normal.
The anticipation for the end of the day was unbearable. You had to return to the ocean pools to collect samples you weren’t able to gather yesterday.
Mostly, you had now developed a slight fear of the ocean. How the waves turned so violent while you were swimming was beyond you, but it only proved how unpredictable nature could be.
And you still wanted that piece of coral.
Your sense of self-preservation wasn’t the best. It had never been, really. After time and time again of putting your own needs second it was only natural at this point. Maybe not today, but you were going to try and return to the ocean no matter how much the prospect intimidated you.
Like you’d done for the past week, you assembled the necessary gear for your work and stepped out into the heat. To get to the area you simply had to walk along the beach. It was probably the best part of your day―with nothing to do while you walked you needed only to think.
And right now you were thinking about Hitoshi.
He was handsome―no denying that. Clearly he had a good heart, why else would he save your life after you’d so foolishly gone and put yourself in a situation that could’ve been easily avoided. He wasn’t the most expressive, but you could still tell that he meant well.
Or at least you hoped.
Either way you wouldn’t be forgetting about him anytime soon.
Finally you had arrived at the ocean pools, thankful to be able to rest your feet after the long walk. Looking out onto the ocean caused an involuntary shiver. The weather was warm, but the water that once threatened to kill you wasn’t.
There was no time to stew on harmful thoughts though―you were behind schedule. Disregarding the lingering worry that had settled into your heart, you pulled the bag off your shoulders and began removing its contents.
Almost methodically, you laid out your equipment on the flat expanse of the dry rock. It was important to be neat in your area of study, now being no exception. You were distracted with the meticulous arrangement of research gear, eyes and mind trained on setting it up to perfection.
“How’s the work coming?”
You nearly jumped two feet into the air.
In fact, you knocked over a petri dish as your body jolted from sudden noise behind you, it sounding off with a light splash as it landed in a nearby pool. Your head whipped around in the direction of the voice.
If your mind didn’t register the owner of it by sound, it would visually.
And there Hitoshi was, in his still unbelievable merman glory. He was propped up on his elbows, casually resting against the rock.
You breathed a sigh of relief, having come down from a brief adrenaline induced high. “Jesus―you can’t just sneak up on people like that. And it's going fine, I guess.” You bent over to pick up the piece of equipment, now having to disinfect it for later use. His sudden presence still had you a bit tense, and you warily eyed his form.
“Are you afraid of me?”
The question caught you off guard―clearly you looked a lot more nervous than you thought.
Of course you weren’t afraid of him. Maybe you felt a little awkward, given the vast difference between you two, but certainly not afraid.
“No, you just startled me a little. And the ocean’s still got me kinda freaked out, so
” You waved lazily with one hand in the general direction of the body of water as you spoke, returning to the task at hand.
You heard the water around him splash slightly, “Well, you can relax. I wouldn’t let anything happen to you. Actually
” Looking in his direction, you saw him reach below the surface of the water. “...I’ve got something for you. Here.”
In his right hand Hitoshi produced one of your plastic sample bottles. Inside of it was the frustrating piece of coral you were trying to pry off the rock before meeting your demise yesterday.
Your eyes blew wide at the sight―of course he could’ve gotten it so easily. He’s a goddamn fish after all. But there was one thing that didn’t quite add up in your head. “How did you know that’s what I was looking for?”
He looked at the jar before returning his unperturbed gaze back to you. “I, uh
” Just barely, you could pick up on an almost abashed look across his face. “I was sort of...watching you. That sounds creepy, I know. It was when you went in the water―not a lot of people come to this part of the island so I wasn’t exactly expecting visitors.”
Now it made sense. “Oh, well if that’s the case then I guess I was lucky. You might not have found me if I got stuck on the more populated area of the beach.” It was practically a blessing that you came across the area―you might have been dead if not.
Standing up from your position, you walked over to the break in rock and ocean where the merman was stationed. You sat down next to him, “Thanks for this, Hitoshi.” You took the bottle from his extended hand. “I really need it if I want to do good on my final. And I probably would’ve tried going back out there sooner or later for it.” You laughed a bit at your own statement, knowing how bad of an idea it was, but still finding the humour in your lack of survival instinct.
He didn’t seem as amused, “You’re telling me you would’ve risked your life just for a piece of coral?”
At that you smiled, “It’s not just a piece of coral. I mean―it’s not rare or anything, but it’s relevant to what I’m studying. So yes, chances are I would’ve.”
Hitoshi shook his head, lips slightly upturned at your behaviour now as well. “It’s a good thing I’m here then. Can’t say I’d be so inclined to let you out of my home if I found you half-dead again. For your own sake, of course.”
You rolled your eyes. But really, you were grateful for him. “Seriously, this means a lot.” Forming your next words was difficult, given that you didn’t want to sound too much like a loser, but they needed to be genuine. “I don’t get a lot of help when it comes to stuff like this. I’m not the best at asking for it either. It’s just―you’ve done so much for me...I don’t even know where to begin when it comes to repaying you.”
There was a moment of silence, and your heart sunk a little thinking that you’d said too much.
“Why don’t you start with telling me about yourself.”
That only confused you more.
“You want to know more about me?”
The toothy grin he gave as he laughed a bit at your response wasn’t expected, but it did help ease the tensions. “Yes, little human. I don’t get to talk to many of my own kind, let alone yours. And as you said, you need to repay me so technically you don’t have a choice.”
His condescending pet name didn’t go unnoticed, but you’d let it slide―he had done more than enough to earn the right to a little teasing.
You have a half-hearted shrug. “Okay then, what is it you want to know fish boy?”
Now things could finally start getting interesting.

The Serpent and the Octopus [pt.4]
Tumblr media
It was quiet
too quiet. Azul and Jade feared the worst when they were busy trying to lecture Floyd. ‘Trying’ because they failed to realize that their visitor and the eel twin snuck off, panic ran through their veins when they looked back only to be met with a bustling crowd but no princess or twin in sight.
‘SHIT!’ was the only word both thought at the same time as they retraced their steps to try and find them but to no avail.
Azul: Where’d they go?!
Cried Azul as he scanned the crowd for any sign if the eel and oarfish.
Jade: Knowing my brother, he’d go to the place he wants to go. It’s possible they’ve gone to the shipwreck zone

Jade started to drag Azul to the location as fast as he could.
While Jade recalls going to the sunken ships several times, he is aware that there are sharks swarming around that area. He’s kept track of the time when sharks hunt around those grounds but Floyd doesn’t know that, he doesn’t remember things when he loses interest. Jade is more than aware of the fact that sharks would roam about the shipwreck zone at this time.
He hopes his brother and the princess are alright and still in one piece, because if they are then he and Azul would kill Floyd and Cerule. Royal status be damned, he’s had enough!
Azul: (This is why I hate royals!)
Was the only thought in Azul’s mind.
Meanwhile, Floyd and Cerule were still busy rummaging through barrels and debris for some interesting objects.
Floyd: Ugh, nothing but junk here too!
Floyd tossed a broken metal to the floor and slumped next to the barrel he was rummaging through.
Cerule: Really? Because I think you can make something out of it if you try hard enough
Cerule tries to reassure Floyd as he was getting irritated that the ship, they’ve searched is devoid of anything good. But he just responded with a huff and urged Cerule to move to another ship. As he tried to swim through an opening, his tail was caught by a fishing net and he struggled to pull himself out to no avail.
Floyd: Ce-chan! I’m stuck!
She rushed to his side and helped him pull but despite both of their efforts, Floyd’s tail wasn't budging at all. Cerule spotted the metal piece Floyd had tossed and picked it up to cut the net finally freeing his tail.
Cerule: See, what did I tell you? If you can use it then it isn’t junk!
She stuck her tongue at him to tease him, Floyd just rolled his eyes and was about to retort until he felt the beam behind them was about to collapse due to cutting the net that was supporting it. He grabs her in time to avoid being crushed by the debris.
The sound alerted the shark in the area and it started to swim around the ship, looking through the windows until it spotted the two mermaids. Cerule noticed it was getting dark and as she looked at the window, she could feel herself freeze when she spotted the shark charging the ship.
Cerule: FLOYD, SHARK!
(CHOMP!)
Immediately they swam up to the deck to narrowly avoid the onslaught of teeth about to chomp down on them. The shark started to struggle trying to spit out debris wedged in his teeth, giving them more time to escape the ship and into open water.
They started to swim towards the way they came, Cerule looked back to see the shark was zooming in towards them at great speed, she pushed Floyd away into some seaweed.
But that left her open to the shark’s tackle that sent her flying towards some rocks, she hits her back hard, knocking the breath out of her. She could barely pull herself to swim away when she sees the shark swimming towards her slowly, as if to mock her helplessness. Floyd comes out of the seaweed to see what is about to happen, he throws a rock at the shark to keep its attention away from her.
Floyd: Hey! Catch me if you can, you beast!
He mocks the shark to follow him away from Cerule. While he was busy leading the shark away, Jade and Azul managed to arrive in time to see Floyd being chased by a shark.
Jade: Floyd!? What on earth-!!!
Jade and Azul didn’t have time to process what they were seeing when they began to split up because Floyd was heading over to their direction.
Jade: He’s not going to keep up the speed! What can we do?!
Jade was starting to panic for the safety of his brother and Azul doesn’t have anything on him other than maybe trying to ink the shark, but with how fast it was swimming he can’t guarantee that he’ll get a clean shot.
Floyd was starting to get tired from all the fleeing that he failed to notice that he was swimming near a bed of sea kelp which got his tail tangled. He struggled as hard as he could but his tail wouldn’t budge.
It was hopeless as the shark was gaining speed and closing the distance, he closed his eyes and waited for the shark to gobble him up. But when nothing happened and he didn’t feel any pain, he peaked for a bit to see that a large pointed rock had pierced the shark’s side.
Cerule: Floyd! Over here!
He looked up to see Cerule with her tail wrapped around a broken rock. She swam down and cut the kelp with a sharp stone nearby. She was struggling for a bit since the kelp was a bit tougher to cut and the stone was fairly dull.
She needed to get him free because the shark was slowly shaking itself out of its shock. Suddenly, a cloud of ink covered the shark and Azul and Jade started to tear the kelp quickly. Managing to free Floyd from the sea kelp’s grasp.
Azul: You two are such a pain in my ass!
Azul yelled as he used his tentacles to hold onto Floyd and Cerule while he held Jade’s hand to swim towards safety. When they were back at the Coral Sea, Azul was about to give a verbal beatdown to Floyd and Cerule but before he could get a word out, Cerule beat him to it by bowing and profusely apologizing.
Cerule: I am so sorry! I know after what happened I can’t take it back with an apology but
This was the first time I’ve ever been able to go out like this! I was so caught up with doing something exciting that I forgot about the consequences!
Azul blinked as he processed what she just said before she added more to her apology.
Cerule: I won’t tell my father what happened today but if you need to yell at someone then please don’t yell at Floyd, I should have refused but I didn’t!
She almost had a convincing stone face if it weren’t for the tears leaking out of her eyes. For a few minutes there was an awkward silence between them, until Azul couldn’t help himself as he laughed at the sight, she was far different from the royals he had seen.
Azul: Ahahahaha! Out of everything that I thought you would say, I never expected you to say something like that! But this situation is clearly both of your faults so don’t expect me to deny that it was your-
Floyd: OWWW!
They stopped and looked to Floyd to see that he had a cut on his tail. The cut wasn’t too serious but it was quite large and it was stinging because of the salty seawater seeping into the wound.
Cerule: You’re hurt!
Floyd: I just realized it now, after my adrenaline wore off
the seawater is making it sting
Floyd held his tail between his hands and tried to put pressure onto the wound but it ended up hurting more.
Cerule: Wait, I can heal it!
Cerule swam over to him and started to cry, they were confused at what she was doing at first until they heard her mumble an incantation.
Cerule: Mother of the sea
 Hear my voice
 Tears into shiny luster
 Healing gems that glimmer
 Tears of the Sea!
As soon as her incantation was over, her teardrops turned into a handful of white, shiny pearls. She took the pearls and crushed them into powder then rubbed it all over the wound, shock was evident on their faces as the damaged tissue began to heal until not a trace of the wound was visible.
Floyd: Woah! It doesn’t hurt anymore? I didn’t know Ce-chan could use healing magic!
Floyd wiggles his tail around still in a daze of what he witnessed.
Cerule: It’s my unique magic, Tears of the Sea! I can turn my tears into pearls and use them to heal injuries! Although I had to use a lot of it because of how large the cut was

Cerule explained while rubbing her eyes that were a bit swollen from crying. Azul’s gaze darted from Cerule to Floyd’s tail. It was rare to encounter people who had powerful healing magic as there were not many who possessed the ability to heal. All of Azul’s annoyance and frustration with the situation turned into realization.
Perhaps this encounter was fate for him, after all he did want to study to become the best magic user like the sea witch. He wondered to what capabilities could those pearls possess and if he could use them to make a very rare potion that no one ever heard of. This was a golden opportunity.
Azul: Princess
I thought of a way you could remedy the events that you caused today
If you promise me to give a bottle of those healing pearls in exchange, me and Jade will allow you to explore exciting places.
Cerule: You will? T-thank you-
But Azul raises his hand to stop her.
Azul: But
as long as we all go as a group so that this incident won’t be repeated
He says sternly, earning an enthusiastic nod from her.
Cerule: Of course!
At the proposal, Jade and Floyd looked at Azul as if he had grown two heads, what came over him? Wasn’t he upset just a moment ago? But with the way he had this calculating gaze meant that he saw an opportunity. However, for the first time this didn’t sit well with Floyd.
While Floyd was thankful that he wasn’t getting scolded, he was a bit conflicted because as much as he would have wanted to see the merfolk getting tricked, Cerule has made her spot in his friend circle and if he was going to make her sign a contract then he might just try to talk him out of it.
Floyd: Azul! What are you saying?
Azul: I’ve given it some thought; we should have listened to Floyd from the start so that we may never have gotten into this mess. So, I propose that if you provide me with a bottle full of those pearls, we will accompany you to plenty of exciting places in exchange. It’s a fair deal, no?
If it was only for the pearls then Floyd might have not needed to worry, he relaxes a bit at this.
Cerule: Sounds fair! We have a deal, Azul! Thank you!
She rushed over to hug him, which he was one thing that he wasn’t expecting. He felt a small tingling emotion that he couldn’t exactly describe, part of him felt that she was violating his personal space but at the same time he could feel her gratitude and it was very uplifting for a second. Just for a second
With a beet-red face he pushes her away and reminded her of keeping distance.
Azul: Y-Yes well
Now that we have an agreement, let’s head back to the school, it's getting late
Cerule happily swam alongside him, Azul heard snickering behind him and he saw the twins looking at him with an amused grin on their faces. He knew exactly what they were thinking and they couldn’t be more wrong.
He sent them a warning glare, but they ignored it and whispered among themselves on how Azul was getting soft for the princess. He convinced himself that he wasn’t getting soft! Azul saw an opportunity and didn’t want to waste it, that was all it was.
Yes
 just an opportunity

Once they arrived back at the school, Azul managed to convince the teacher that the princess was given a tour around the city and how grateful she was to enjoy sightseeing. The teacher thankfully bought it and didn’t question him on what actually transpired.
Soon enough, the day ends and Cerule had to go back home with her father. The teacher and the entire class were lined up when the Serpent King arrived at the school to pick her up.
She snuck behind Azul and slipped a bottle of the pearls into his hands that were folded behind his back before quickly swimming to her father’s side. She gave him a bright smile before turning to her father.
Serpent King: I thank you for the courtesy you’ve shown and for looking after my daughter. But for now, we must bid you all farewell

His thunderous voice rumbled in the surrounding area that left some of the merchildren in shock while some were in awe.
As the king and the princess left, Azul stared at the bottle of pearls in his hand. The pearls were sparkling brighter than the pearls made by oysters, it could very well be compared to stars.
When he got home, he swam to his room towards his desk and hid them in his drawer, his thoughts drifting back to Cerule and the odd events that transpired which led to him becoming ‘friends’ with her. He thought to himself that she was the one who said they were friends but she was just an opportunity he took advantage of.
Just an opportunity
 or so he thought.
Timeskip to the Atlantica museum where Azul was offering to tour the Ramshackle duo and their friends as an ‘apology’ for the overblot incident. He places the edited picture on the wall, his eyes catch another photo.
It was of a familiar serpent with red and white hair, smiling happily as she held hands with an octopus who was shying away from being in the front. Azul sighs as he walks away to join Yuu and the others.
Azul: (Come to think of it, she’ll be visiting Octavinelle to send me another bottle of pearls again
)

Payment // Twisted Wonderland Yandere! Azul Ashengrotto x Reader//
Tumblr media
Just in time for the Octavinelle chapter! I felt like making Azul suffer for a little so there is a bit of angst in here, also thank you so much to the anon who requested this story!
=========================================================
The knocking on his door jolted Azul awake from his nap. His head sprung up eyes wide surveying the layout of his office. When had he fallen asleep? The clock read 6:30 in the afternoon, yet from what he could see the moon had already risen illuminating his office with a ghostly glow. He pinched the bridge of his nose standing up and sighing. How improper of him to fall asleep while reviewing contracts as well as his school work. The knocking continued, it began to echo around the room reverberating off the insides of his skull wedging its self into his brain. louder louder!LOUDER! He marched over to the door ready to send whoever it was on their way. He was too fatigued for pleasantries and politeness. He pulled the door wide open, mouth ajar ready to yell....he never did. There stood (Y/N), eyes bloodshot fresh tear stains tattooed over her cheeks. "I want a contract right now!" she yelled pushing past him, stomping into the office and plumbing down on one of the satin white couches. Her shoulders were slumped, she looked so weak and vulnerable. Azul quickly followed behind her, headache and unfinished work long forgotten. He slipped into the seat beside her, gloved hands gently rubbing her back. Upon the physical contact, she quickly straightened her back. The popping of joints and bones roared over the quiet room. She tried to wipe away her tears, trying to keep the new ones at bay. "He..hesaidhe... he" Her words slurred together, sticking into an incomprehensible phrase. What had happened to her? Azul's mind started falling down a sprawling rabbit whole, listing all the possible horrible things that some mongrel could have done to his precious, innocent, sweet (y/n)...No..they weren't his...they'd never been his...Azul continued rubbing circles over (y/n)'s back, his warm touch sent a caused (y/n)'s sobbing to an almost full stop, her posture relaxed practically melting into his touch. An easy silence blanketed the office, Azul's heart began to speed up. He'd never been this close to her, never touched her before. The moment felt perfect, like the gentle tide washing over his body on a bright sunny day...yes this was just like those rare blissful days back at the Sea of Corals when he'd been permitted to leave his lonely cave. "I want a contract...." Your brittle voice fragmented the irie hush. Azul's blue gaze dropped to the tiled floor, why were you so insistent on that tonight. What could you possibly want so badly that you were willing to make a deal with the devil? Azul's gesture stopped, arm dropping to the couch. "....Why?" It was unlike him to question why someone wanted a contract, he would just provide the pen and paper and smile his signature glowing grin. But something about you made him act like a dame fool. "I-I want..." You couldn't utter a single word without tearing up. What was going on! "Please" Azul leaned over, taking your small hands in his "Just tell me" his tone was too caring unfit of a sea which such as himself. "I want Malleus to love me!" You blurted out, a sharp edge engraved in your tone. Azul's heart sped up ready to break his ribcage, wanting to leave his body and beach it's self like a depressed whale.  You loved...Malleus, Malleus of all people! The moody always complaining prince of the fae. The prized child of NRC. Azul never cared much for the admiration and praise that everyone threw at his feet, but hearing that the dark fae had stolen your heart shattered his. Malleus had everything so why did he have to take the only thing Azul loved? WHY!He was desperate to say no, to shout it, to scream it until his throat went raw. He wanted to tell you that he loved you, that he would always love you. Unlike that arrogant fae who never thought of anything but himself, who was always in a bad mood for the most ridiculous reasons! But alas, Azul's mouth was a graveyard the words dying on his tongue before they got to breathe an ounce of air. His grip tightened hoping that his touch might just relay what he wanted to say. "Azul" his dishearted gaze rose to meet yours, it was his turn to look frail and broken in dire need of assistance. "Can you please make senior Malleus fall in love with me?" It hurt, it hurt so awfully! It felt like a thousand piranhas were biting every inch of his flesh, some had even infiltrated his skull, munching off chunks of his brain. He closed his eyes and sigh "I...I don't know...it could take a few days to find everything...I'll let you know by tomorrow..." The answer would still be no by tomorrow it would always be no. But he couldn't tell you that tonight not when you where so beaten and sad...when you couldn't utter a word without breaking down in tears. You quickly wrapped your arms around him, hugging him tightly as you buried your face in his chest, soaking up the sea salt scent that he dragged everywhere. Azul stiffened, lazily curling and arm around your back and patting it. "Thank you...Thank you so much" your tears began to flow again staining his powder blue vest. In his mind, Azul noted to never wash that vest again.Early the next morning Jade found his dorm leader passed out on the couch in his office. His glasses had fallen on the floor somehow still intact. His short silver hair was a mess. His school jacket had been discarded over his desk along with his shoes, one being placed neatly under the table while the other rested on its side over his jacket. "Boss?" The older twin was dumbfounded by the sight in front of him. Azul Ashengrotto, the well-kept deal maker of the school looked like a pathetic manta ray. "Boss!" Nope, nothing. With a sigh, Jade walked over to the couch, he grabbed the sweaty fabric of Azul's white button-up and forcefully swung him forward. "Azul!!" this was the loudest sternest tone he'd ever used on his dorm leader, the fear of what he may do to him washed over Jade causing him to break into a nervous sweat. Gradually the silver-haired second year's eye blinked open, he ran a hand over his face as he groaned loudly. "Time" He grumbled while cracking his neck from side to side. "Past eight am, classes start in ten...god what the hell happened to you last night?" For a minute Azul's mind blurred, the events of last night too distant and foreign to properly recall. The then it hit him like a typhoon, everything (y/n) had said, how she'd been such a mess, how she'd ask her help on the only matter he wished she hadn't."(Y/N)? The first-year who's in the ramshackle dorm?" A crease formed between Jade's brows, his mouth morphing into a scowl. "Is she refusing to pay? I'll send Jade to have a little chat with her, if that's the case." His fingers dove into his pocket fishing out his cellphone, he scrolled through look for his twin's number. "Put it away" Azul ordered, he slowly pushed himself to his feet, mumbling a couple of curses. "BUT!.." Jade's eyes widen, why was Azul acting so weird today? "Look.." The silver-haired man grabbed his coat slipping from under his right shoe. "It's not that she wasn't paid, heck she hasn't even signed the dame contract yet and frankly  I don't want her to!" The older leech twin stiffened, his mismatched eyes surveyed the office look for any signs of alcohol or party pills. That was the only reasonable explanation for why Azul was being so uncharacteristic. Azul marched back to the couch after having slipped on both shoes, he flopped down on his stomach dramatically letting out a high pitch cry. He angled his head to the side to stare up at his dormant, ocean blue eyes fogged with grief like a kicked seal. "I...I think...I love...her" even Azul couldn't believe the words coming from his mouth. He was notorious for his scheming and cunning nature being capable of getting whatever he wanted. Yet here he was moaning and groaning over a girl, a simple magicless darling girl.Jade was beginning to get slightly irritated, his dorm leader the great and powerful Azul was acting like a lovesick school girl. Reluncity he took a seat next to the Cecaelia, he began patting his back the way one would a small child. "The way I see it, you have the advantage here." Jade paused waiting for his words to sink in. Azul simply shifted his orbs to stare directly into Jade's golden ones. "How so" he murmured. "Why not provide her with a love potion. They are simple to come by and rather cheap in the noir market. In return for your services, she'll provide you with a pact to her soul. That way it wouldn't matter who she's in love with, she'll always have to return to you." Azul rolled over, curling his lips into a sly smirk.Excitement bubbled inside of you as you ran towards the Octavinelle dorm. You were so close to finally getting your happily ever after! So close to your true love! You pushed the decorative wooden doors open with all your force. "Azul!" Your cheerful voice bounced off the walls of his office reverberating back to you. Your shimmering eyes scanned the large room trying to find the man that held the last key to your happiness. Your sight finally landed on the silver-haired businessman man sat smugly at his desk, head leaning forward on entwined fingers. "(Y/n)! you finally made it my dear." He seemed to perk up upon seeing you a charming smile grazing his lips. You quickly ran over to the organized desk, slamming your hands on the oak wood you joyously yelled"Do you have it?!" "Yes right here--"You ripped the contract parchment from his hands and, using a golden fish skeleton pen you found on the desk you started to write the first letter of your name. 'Wait!" Azul reached out gripping your wrist tightly to prevent you from continuing. "Maybe you should read the fine print..." His voice trailed off never before had he wanted someone to read the fine print before heck he'd talked all so many people out of reading it! "No, no it's fine I'll pay whatever it takes!" You tugged your wrist from his fingers and rapidly scribbled the last few letters. You stood up straight reaching your hands out to Azul for him to drop whatever contraption he had conjured to help Malleus accept your confession. The sea witch tossed you a tiny glass bottle with a sickening pink like liquid inside. "Mix that into some chocolates or a drink or whatever you are going to give him, just make sure he eats it." You laughed as tears of joy slipped from the corners of your eyes. Spinning on your heels you dashed the door before Azul's voice stopped you dead in your tracks. "Aren't you forgetting your payment?"You turned with a frown on your face. "I-I um didn't bring anything with me, just tell me what it is you want and I'll go get it!" but Azul just shook his head and signaled with his finger for you to come back. Disheartedly you walked back to the desk, as you did so, Azul slipped a reflective colored oval into his mouth. As you stepped closer he grabbed your upper arm leaning you over his desk as his lips pushed upon your own. His teeth bite harshly into your lip causing you to which and open your mouth a bit, just enough for him to slip his tough in. Your mouth overflew with the taste of salt as something scaly slipped down your throat. As soon as you had swallowed the invasive object, Azul retracted. He clutched your chin with his fingers, tilting your head up. "Jade proposed I charge you a soul-bonding spell, in which your soul would become mine." Upon his words your eyes widen, a cold sweat broke over your body. "But being the saint that I am, I chose to charge you something else." You prayed in your mind that your payment would only be the kiss that whatever he had slipped into your mouth would have just been a joke, but your hope died down as he continued "I chose an attachment spell instead, much more effective and beneficial for the both of us. You can't step further than 12 meters from me or your body will start to morph into that of a tiny little fish. Really it's a gift it aids me in keeping you safe! "Once again tears started to fall from your eyes just like the night before. You're happily ever after shattering before your eyes. Azul let go of your chin and walked over from his desk. He laced his finger with your own and practically dragged you to the door, only stopping to retrieve his hat from the coat rack. "I believe we should get started on those chocolates from Malleus don't you agree? After all, he too should get a taste of what it feels like to want something yet for it to be so out of reach!""But not to worry you, poor unfortunate soul! Now that I have you in my clutch I'm NEVER letting you get away!"

Heylo! I saw that you were asking for requests, and I have one if you want to write it! What if the reader is always drawing on the boards after school, and students don’t know who does it, and one day Peter catches her drawing? Idk, I kinda liked the idea! I love your writing hun!!đŸ„°đŸ’•â€ïž
Peter Parker and The Dry Erase Board Artist
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A/N: And here it is! Almost a whole month after I said I would have it done! I am so so so sorry for how long this took and also sorry for how shitty it also is. I hope you enjoy this trash fire that I just spent almost 4 hours on and finished at 1 am. Oh, I also made this gender neutral using they/them pronouns.
Warnings: uh language, slight death threat?, stupid teachers, numbers, fluff ig, idrk
Word Count: 2279
Pairing: Peter Parker x Reader
Summary: There’s a new mystery in Midtown, and it’s the creator of the dry erase board drawings. Peter is desperate to find out who it is even if it means losing sleep and missing assignments. What will it take to find out who this secret artist is?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Peter knew all about mysteries. He used to stay up too late reading those mystery novels by flashlight when he should have been sleeping. He grew up loving them. The amount of times May would walk into the living room to see him once again binge watching Scooby Doo was uncountable. Even now, he prided himself on being one of the biggest mysteries in New York: Spider-Man. He had to hold back a grin whenever he heard people discuss who the masked hero could possibly be. The craziest one so far was that Spider-Man was actually an alien being used by the government. He wasn’t sure who came up with that one, but props to them for their creativity.
He just absolutely loved mysteries of all shapes and sizes, and now, he had a new one to solve: the drawings. He called it Operation Dry Erase Board, and yes, the name did need improvement. Both MJ and Ned made sure to tell him that every single time he brought it up. Ned had suggested The Search for the Hidden Artist, which MJ just said sounded even worse.
It had started a couple weeks ago. He had walked into his first period calculus class to see everyone whispering and taking pictures of the board. His first reaction was panic  his teacher was prone to surprise pop quizzes  but it soon turned to awe as he stared at the array of color across the board. It was a beautifully detailed portrait of the sea. He gazed upon the scene of manta rays and fish and even the silhouette of a shark. There was coral and shells of every color, and the lines and swirls of blue captivated him. There was no signature. Nobody knew who had done it.
At first, Peter just tried to brush it off. There was somebody in the school who was skilled with dry erase board markers and was very artistically gifted. Not the biggest deal, but good for them. It became a bigger deal when the next day a gorgeous rendition of Starry Night was covering the board of the biology classroom. Once again, no signature. That’s when Peter started to become invested.
He questioned MJ first. She was one of the only artists he knew, but she just scoffed. “I’m good, but dry erase markers are shit for me to work with.”
He started paying more attention in art class, looking for anyone with a similar style. Nothing. Everyone was your typical high school artist who was just there for the credits, meaning people like him. Don’t ask about how designing the first spidey suit went.
The drawings just kept coming. He soon saw space, dinosaurs, a jungle, The Mona Lisa, even each of the Avengers all spread across the dry erase boards. Each one of these was so beautiful and so alluring that it made his eyes sting and shouts of protest to erupt from the students when the teachers had to erase them. Even if they didn’t erase them, they were gone the next day. Whether it was the Hidden Artist or the janitor, Peter didn’t know. It was just another part in the mystery.
A lot of the drawings weren’t done in any classrooms that Peter had, meaning he would have to take field trips during his lunch period to go and find them. Most of the time he already knew where he was going. There was now a whole Instagram page dedicated to the art. It was run by Daphne, who was in both Yearbook and the Art Club. He had asked her if it was her, but she had just giggled and said she was a fan. Honestly, Peter was too.
He would stare at the art for as long as he could each time he saw it, and he stared at the pictures he took of them even longer. He was consumed by the art, by his love for it. He needed to find out who the artist was, but unfortunately for him it would have to wait. He was so preoccupied with being Spider-Man and now also being a shitty detective that he was falling behind on both his work and his sleep. He had now fallen asleep a total of five times over the course of a week and a half, and he was close to failing both AP Government and Spanish, simply because he wasn’t catching up on his workload.
Now, he was passed out in AP Lang, the one class that everyone knew not to fall asleep in. He couldn’t help it. He was running on a total of 4 hours for the week, and it was a Thursday. Not even his spidey sense could have prepared him for the crash of a ruler against a metal trash can right next to his ear. After nearly falling out of his chair and almost decking his teacher, Peter was given two weeks’ worth of detentions.
“Hopefully that’ll teach young Mr. Parker here to pay attention instead of dozing off in the middle of class. Maybe he’ll catch up on his missing assignments, too. Speaking of, would you like to tell the class which rhetorical devices you’ll be utilizing in your essay, Mr. Parker?” All Peter could do is stare back at his teacher, horror written over his face.
————————
It was 3:30 on a Wednesday, and Peter was losing his mind. Each of his detentions were an hour and a half long, lasting from 3:15 to 4:45. He had managed to catch himself up on his work and raise his grades a bit, but that didn’t change his predicament. He couldn’t go home or skip detention, meaning he was stuck at school for another hour and fifteen minutes. When he asked if he could do something, he was told he could go help the janitor. With a sigh, he got up and went in search of the janitor’s closet.
During the time spanning over his punishment, he had nearly forgotten about his obsession with the Hidden Artist. Of course he still saw and heard about the drawings and he would still stare when he saw them, but now with the need to focus on his assignments being drilled into his brain every day on top of trying to stop bad guys each night, he was forced to move on. He didn’t want to. God, if he had the chance he’d stare at those drawings for hours on end, but he didn’t have that chance. It fucking sucked.
After a couple minutes of searching, he finally found the closet. He grabbed a broom and looked around, and to his left, there was a classroom with the door slightly open. With a heavy sigh, he walked towards the room and pushed the door open, only to stop dead. There, across the room, was a brand new drawing, and it was a drawing of him. Not him him, of course, but a drawing of Spider-Man. It was a drawing of an event he recognized from yesterday when he had walked a lost kid back to their parents. The drawing showed him crouched down in front of the kid who was crying, and he had his hand out as an offer for the child to take it.
Upon closer inspection, the drawing seemed incomplete. There were too many white spaces which wasn’t the artist's style. As he stepped closer to it, he heard the door creak and a gasp behind him. He spun around, nearly falling over in the process, and looked up wildly. His eyebrows furrowed when he saw Y/n L/n, a student in his grade. They stared back at him with wide eyes.
“Did...did you do this?” Peter asked slowly. Y/n hesitantly nodded.
“If you tell anyone about this, Parker, you’re dead.”
He was slightly taken aback by this. Not the death threat, necessarily, he got those all the time, but it was a bit of a surprise coming from Y/n.
“I won’t. I promise,” he said softly.
Y/n nodded slightly before striding towards the board and taking out a marker, beginning to fill in all of the white spaces Peter had noticed earlier.
After a moment, Peter asked, “How do you do it?”
Y/n turned towards him, black marker clutched in their hand. “What?”
“The drawings. They’re so beautiful...I didn’t even know you could draw like that.”
“Everyone has their secrets, Parker. I’m sure you have yours.”
Peter almost laughed at that, because yeah, he did, and Y/n was drawing it across the Physics dry erase board. But he didn’t laugh. He just smiled a little and kept watching, forgetting all about the broom that was now leaning against a desk.
“So...Spider-Man huh?”
Y/n sighed and turned to him. “Why are you still here? Shouldn’t you be sweeping or something?”
Peter shrugged. “Or something. Look, this is probably gonna sound super weird, but I’ve been trying to figure out who you were for weeks. Your art is super amazing and cool and I just wanted to know so badly who was talented enough to pull it off. And now I know.”
“Are you disappointed?” It wasn’t a question out of fear, but more out of curiosity. Y/n sat themselves on a desk and waited for the answer.
“I don’t think so,” Peter said. “This was just unexpected, I guess. I didn’t even consider you for a suspect.” Y/n chuckled at this.
“Nobody suspects me. That’s the fun part of all of this, actually. Did you know people actually thought that it was Ms. Rosemary for a while?”
“The crazy teacher’s aid?”
“Yup. The theory, I think, was that she was so crazy that art became like her therapy or escape or whatever. I mean, it can be like therapy, but I think Rosemary needs a little more than some doodles in order to help her.”
“These aren’t just ‘some doodles,’ Y/n. They’re-”
“Beautiful. Yeah, you’ve said.” They shrugged. “It’s just scribbles on a board, Parker. Scribbles that, for whatever reason, make our brains happy.”
Peter didn’t really have a response to that, so instead he just watched as Y/n went back to work.
————————
That was how he would spend his detentions. He would offer to go help the janitor, and then he would run around the school trying to find Y/n. Eventually, on the days where the drawings took less time to create, Y/n started to try to teach him how to draw. Basic things at first, like flowers or trying to break things down into their simpler shapes. He could barely do either of those things, but he enjoyed trying anyways. On other days, Peter would just sit and watch in silence as they drew. It was mesmerizing, and only he got to witness it.
It became their thing. Even after detentions ended, Peter would stay after school for an hour or so just to go hang out with Y/n. They would have snacks and play music and have a good time. Peter learned that Y/n stayed after school since their parents were never home until the late evenings, so they stayed back just for the hell of it. He also learned that they were good friends with the janitor and that his name was Roger. He was the reason that they were even able to stay for as long as they did. It was pretty cool.
It was a Friday, and Peter was spinning around in the teacher’s chair while Y/n drew a forest scene. Peter watched them for a while, a small smile on his face. They were also so concentrated when they worked, their eyes narrowing and jaw tightening as they drew the different lines and curves that made up the masterpiece. Unbeknownst to Y/n, Peter had a surprise for them.
“Hey, N/n?” Peter asked. All he got was a hum in response. He rolled his eyes. “Come here.”
Y/n sighed and got off of the stool that they had been sitting on. “What do you want, Pete?” they asked as they strolled over, leaning over the desk when they got close enough. In response, Peter held up a small, wrapped up bundle. Y/n’s eyebrows furrowed as they picked it up.
“What-”
“Shhhh!” Peter said with a soft giggle. “Just open it.”
Y/n narrowed their eyes at him before slowly tearing the paper away. They smiled softly as they stared at the multipack of dry erase markers, enough colors to make practically any drawing that happened to cross their mind.
“Why?”
“A simple thank you would have sufficed. It’s an appreciation gift for all of your art. I figured by now you’ve probably killed most of the markers in the school, so I got you some new ones.”
Y/n chuckled a little and looked at him. “Thank you.”
“Of course. You deserve it.”
“I literally just make colored lines one a board.”
“And I appreciate those colored lines! They give me serotonin as do you.”
“I give you serotonin?”
“Yes.”
Y/n blinked in surprise. “Alright then...you also give me serotonin.”
“Really? Awesome.”
They both laughed for a moment, Y/n glancing back down at the markers as Peter continued to look at them.
“Hey, Pete?” Y/n asked as they looked back up at him. “What?”
“Would you...would you like to continue to provide me with serotonin and go out with me?”
Peter’s eyes widened in surprise, but soon it was his smile that was widening instead.
“Absolutely.”

Ever After High x Twisted Wonderland AU  Headcanons part 2
Part 1   Next part
AU concept
MASTERLIST
@virgil-is-a-cutie
Welcome to the part 2 of my Ever After High x Twisted Wonderland AU headcanons!
On this part you will find headcanons about: The setting of the AU, which EAH students transfer to NRC and their dorm (aside from Raven since we already know what her dorm at NRC is) and additional headcanons.
Warning: English is not my first language so sorry if it’s confusing!
-AU setting:
-The AU set after the “Twisted Wonderland” game’s story.
-In this AU, thank to the heavy magical influence to which they have been exposed during the TW events, the MC developped magic and become an official Night Raven College student and the Ramshackle Dorm an official dorm.
-The Ramshackle Dorm is based on the hidden potential of it students, like the MC or Grimm.
-The dorm has been renoved, courtesy of Azul as his way of saying “sorry-to-have-been-a-jerk-to-you-and-thank-you-for-saving-my-ass-when-I-was-overblot” to MC and Grimm.
-On the outside the Ramshackle Dorm look like a gloomy haunted house, but on the inside the dorm is beautyful and cosy.
-The colors of the dorm are black and white
-Since the dorm is still new there’s no official dorm uniform yet, for now, the only uniform the dorm had is the basic Night Raven College school uniform.
- Others EAH students transfers and their dorms:
-Pomefiore:
-Poppy O’Hair:Being a very creative fashionista made her fit Pomefiore’s importance with beauty.
-C.A Cupid:She is very hardworking in spreading love which made her fit for a dorm which is based on “the hard efforts of beauty” because after all beauty is in many form and the beauty of the heart and love are also a part of it.
-Heartslabyul:
-Lizzie Heart:As the original Queen of Hearts’s descendant, she is fit for the dorm, she is strict but more fair than Riddle, the two of them can bond over the pressure they both felt to please their mothers’s belief and Lizzie can help Riddle to be more balanced in his relationship with his peers both as a friend and as a dorm leader.
-Maddie Hatter:Just as the Mad Hatter who was able to adapt himself to the Queen of Hearts’s strict reign despite being mad, Maddie will be able to adapt to Heartslabyul’s strict ways, she will be able to memorize all the dorm’s rules ‘cause after all not many things are impossible for her. She will even use that to help her dormmates when they are forgetting rules, such as not wearing pink when taking care of the flammingos, so they will not get in trouble and with her fun and nice attitude this will make her rather popular at her dorm.
-Octavinelle:
-Coral Witch:As the original Sea Witch’s descendant she is automaticaly sorted in Octavinelle. Even if her beliefs about how helping other are quite the opposite of Azul’s she can adapt to make sure to been able to actually helping people in need with Octavinelle’s ways without being like a loanshark or a mob making her the ying of Azul’s yang.
-Holly O'Hair:Another trait that Octavinelle value is intelectual inteligence, which fit Holly since she is know for being VERY smart and a history nerd, she will be very interested in Twisted Wonderland world’s history and her intelligence will make her a good asset in the dorm.
-Scarabia:
-Blondie Lockes:Blondie may be annoying and nosy but she is well know to be very resourceful when it come to gathering information and helping in planing, qualities which are very welcomed in Scarabia, plus, being in a social and very positive environment like Scarabia can help Blondie to become more empathic toward her peers and more respectful of their boundaries.
-Hunter Huntsman:His kind nature and capacity to do anything out of anything make him a good asset for Scarabia.
-Ashlynn Ella:Being hardworking and ready to even dirt herself in working if needed make Ashlynn fit with the dorm’s beliefs.
-Ignihyde:
-Melody Piper: Piper using very often technology which involve music will be very interested in Ignihyde’s magic technology and will had fun to create music theme magical technology.
-Savanaclaw:
-Cerise Hood:Being very atletic and her tomboy traits make her fit for Savanaclaw, plus, being in this dorm, and by extension in NRC, will give to Cerise the ocasion to finally be herself and to show her wolf heritage.
-Ramona Badwolf:Like Cerise, being very atletic make fit for the dorm and her strong head attitude help too. She will also help Cerise to incrase her confidence about showing her wolf heritage and when sometimes Cerise manichacally put her hood to hide her hears Ramona will remind her she doesn’t had to hide anymore. Will develop a rivality with Jack Howl and maybe Leona.
-Diasomnia:
-Faybelle Thorn:Being a descendant from Maleficent and very eager to become a great and powerful fae make her fit with Diasomnia’s beliefs. Will be very admirative of Malleus’s magic capacities and capacities to intimidate others but will eventually bond with him on the fact people often forgot to inform him when school events happen and by so she will often be the one who will inform him when an event happen.
-Briar Beauty:The big surprise, everyone thought she would be in Pomefiore but the Mirror didn’t see it that way and put her in Diasomnia, because apparently she had magic from Malificent’s lineage making her a descendant too from another forgoten genealogical branch from Maleficent’s descendance who married into Sleeping Beauty’s lineage making Faybelle and Briar distant cousins. Making her sorting into Diasomnia will be the occasion for Briar to developpe her new found fae magic and to learn more about her fae heritage.
-Ramshackle:
-Dexter Charming:Being in Ramshackle will allow Dexter to discover his true potential and to develop his self confidence.
-Daring Charming:Being in this dorm will give the occasion to Daring to find who he truly is now he is not going to be Apple’s prince Charming anymore and is living a existential crisis.
-Darling Charming:Will help Darling to develop her wish and potential to be a knight who protect people.
-Duchess Swan:Had the potential to create her own destiny now she transfered and being in Ramshackle and the MC giving a chance and being nice to everyone will help Duchess to realize she don’t need to steal other people’s happily ever after to be happy and can create her own which will help her to be less bitter and more “nice”, or at least more civil, with her peers.
-Others students from EAH are either homeschooled either transfered in others schools but if you want a former student from EAH who is not on the list to be in NRC go ahead! ^^
-Additional headcanons:
-After the “Twisted Wonderland” dimension has been revealed to the Ever After world and many parents considered transfer their kids from EAH others hesitate faring Headmaster Grimm’s warnings of “if you don’t follow your destiny you go poof” to be true and not wanting their children to disappear and to be forgotten only to be pointed out that some stories’s figures such as “the king of beast” or “the king of the dead” don’t had descendants who follow their stories and no one disappeared and everyone remember them which finally convince the others parents that headmaster Grim’s ideology is BS.
-Many former students from EAH had a good potential in magic but headmaster Grimm convinced the parents of some of them to sealed their magic leaving them only a “magic touch” so they will fit to their “future destiny”. But after the students’s transfer their seals has been removed making their selection in magic school such as Night Raven College possible.
-Nevermore, Raven’s dragon, will join her a few days after Raven’s acceptation into NRC. She will appear in the school’s garden to the student’s amazement who will be shocked to learn a powerful being as a dragon is Raven’s familiar.

The Next Dragon Age, Analysis #3
Analysis #1 Skeletor  |  Analysis #2 Location, Location, Location
*Due to length, a Read More has been added. TDLR under cut, at the end.
It is finally time to talk about That image. There is so much going on in that image.  It’s brightly colored, full of motion and detail. We see familiar faces and new ones. It’s another eye-catching and gorgeous concept art. I am of course talking about this one.
Tumblr media
Now rather than touch the obvious first. Because oh the Obvious it is so great and exciting, that we’ll leave it for last.
Rather I want to start with the overall concept. We see a group of characters diving underwater into a coral reef area. They are doing so, presumably to escape the archers above; as we see a rain of arrows into the water.
Tumblr media
So there are two ways this could happen. This could be a scripted event within the game, in which this scene needs to take place or is an option that can take place. This could also be showing off the PCs and NPC companions abilities to FINALLY after three games be getting a swim mechanic. As we’ve spent two games confined to land and a third insta-drowning on the Storm Coast. It would certainly open up new options for moving across maps and exploring beneath them, with new treasures and areas to unlock. The last game gave us jump puzzles, we could be looking at swim puzzles in the near future. It also makes sense for this to be the game for underwater travel and just water travel in general. As the entirety of Northern Thedas has some access and dependency on coasts, bays, and oceans surrounding it.
Now let’s return to the image. If we look closely, we can see some fish among a coral reef and far in the distance is the shadows of sharks. Which could be enemies similar to those found in the Assassin’s Creed franchise or just environmental/aesthetic additions.
Tumblr media
I also want to point out that we can see where this group is coming from. At the top of the image is the shadows of boats, which again hint towards at least having ship exploration in cutscene or mechanic. These people aren’t jumping from a dock or shore, but from ships.
Tumblr media
The last thing I want to touch on briefly, before moving onto the characters populating this image is the treasure. At the very bottom of this picture there is a skeleton, it has pieces of coral growing out of it. Obviously it rather gruesome in a way, but has a level of nature overcoming beauty to it (for some). So I’m not going to post a close up of it, but just wanted to point that out. The skeleton also has a treasure chest in it’s arms and the lock glints, to draw attention to it. Similar to the mechanics used in many games to distinguish loot chests, again hinting towards possible underwater exploration.
Now then...the characters, I’m still going to hold off on the obvious cause I’m cruel and I Mean ;) why not. So I’m going to start in the very back first.
In the back we see the skull-headed individual from before. Though this one doesn’t have any glow to the skull. I’ve seen a lot of other theories being brought up about this character too, so I still can’t definitively say much about them.
Tumblr media
I am still kind of under the impression they are a Mortalitasi or tied to them. Many others have pointed out it could be a Higher Undead (mentioned in Tevinter Nights, as I stated in Analysis #1), a self-aware spirit in the body of someone who once lived and I believe similar to what Justice and Kristoff became. I’ve also heard some people wonder if it isn’t Audric, a specific higher undead that was a main character of the aforementioned Tevinter Nights story; he is known  as a guardsman who was killed before filled by another character with a spirit, and later became an archivist for the Mourn Watch. Which would tie him to the Mortalitasi, but if it is him and he is shown in all concept arts; it makes me wonder why he would be performing a dissection of a Dragon.
Next we have this woman.
Tumblr media
I have a friend who on first glance thought it to be Scout Lace Harding, which could be possible given the company. She also has similar armor, a possibility of freckles, and similar physical features. However, it is strange that they would choose to loosen her hair, unless it is specifically to give more convincing towards the underwater scene. And the foreshortening of the drawing, makes it hard to gauge the woman’s height as dwarva or not. It’s a bit of an unknown. That said, if it isn’t Scout Harding, I have a strong feeling it could be a default PC stand-in. There is no extremely distinct feature about her and her face is rather basic to be an instantly recognizable companion. Which says to me she’s a NPC, like Scout Harding or a PC stand-in. Unless of course Scout Harding is a companion, which I certainly won’t say no to.
And Finally, I suppose we can talk about our last two characters in this concept art.
Still working from the back, we have this handsome and fine piece of art who I really wish I could 100% confirm is our favorite Tevinter piece of ass art. However...I cannot. On first glance, it absolutely looks like Magister Dorian Pavus.
Tumblr media
The hair, skin color, and even aesthetic all seem to match. However, there are subtle changes to the hair and facial hair (against his long-haired epilogue look) that could be enough to claim it’s another person.
He is also wearing something similar to a crow uniform and wielding a rapier. In fact, in another concept art, what I originally thought could have been Zevran; actually seems to be this guy. Though I can’t confirm that either and Maker do I hope the other guy is Zevran. If this guy is Dorian tho, then Dorian could be undercover or has a few new tricks (maybe dual-classing or going back to dao unrestricted-class weapon loadouts?) It could even just be a style choice, though it still begs the question why.
So the possibilities are that he is Magister Dorian Pavus of Ventus or some unknown Crow. Either of which aren’t bad options, but one is definitely more exciting to me than the other.
Lastly, my favorite character to ever grace the Dragon Age fandom. The Queen of the Seas herself, and beloved Rivaini.
Captain Isabela of the Felicia Armada (allegedly).
Tumblr media
She is honestly the only one in this entire picture, I can say with almost no doubt, who she is. There is such a slim margin for this not to be her. She has her gold decorations (including the overly large, penis necklace), her captain’s pants as seen in the comics, and her top and sash as seen in the Dragon Age Inquisition multiplayer. Her appearance is one of the most unique in the series, so for her to be unrecognizable would be a hard sell. She even has her one shouldered armor piece and her earrings.
Which Isabela has been in every game to date and I do mean EVERY game, even the spin-offs for PC and mobile, why wouldn’t she be in the one game that goes north near her hometown and the seas she roams? She could be working for herself, the Inquisition, or even Hawke. But it seems no doubt we’ll be running into her and she’ll be running into a good bit of booty. After all is it even a Dragon Age game anymore if the Queen of the Seas isn’t there (and like fewer dragons than the number of times she shows up?).
tldr; underwater or at least the sea seems to be a part of the Next Dragon Age game. And Captain Isabela seems to be too, in passing or sticking around a while we don’t know. We can also count of some new companions and maybe more familiar faces, but wherever it takes us we’ll be in good company.

The Prince of the Sea
First Chapter || Previous Chapter || Next Chapter || AO3
Triton heard the rumors from the fish. The whispers of a child controlling the water in the river. A child that smelled strangely mortal and yet a layer of the sea clung stubbornly to them.
Triton eventually went to see this child, perhaps a child of a minor god was learning how to use their powers?
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
The child was so much more than a child of a minor sea god.
Triton watched him manipulate the water better than half the students of Atlantis’s elite academy. He watched him freeze it.
The amount of skill that took was ridiculous. Ice does not come easy to those of the mid seas. The northern most and southern most were skilled in it, but this child was definitely not of those.
The eye’s gave him away.
They were the same eye’s Triton had. The same eye’s that every child of Poseidon ever had.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
He watched his half-brother for a time.
He wasn’t sure what he was doing at the start, but it seemed he was cleaning the river?
Did he lose something in it?
Triton watched though, he watched as the boy learned to raise the water, learned to make waves, spoke with the fish, studied some of the harder magics of the sea, seemingly without even realizing.
He spoke with an eel named Elli a lot.
Triton did not understand this spawn of his father’s. How was his scent so weak when he obviously knows his heritage? His presence only felt faintly of immortal power. It was strange.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
His name was Percy.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
He knows nothing of his heritage.
He has no idea of the gods and no idea who Triton is.
Triton was
 confused.
He called his control of the water, waterbending. Triton would allow it for now.
Triton studied him more though, he was cleaning in the middle of winter. That was a dangerous time for mortals even today. He was young, he shouldn’t be risking his health like that.
Triton wasn’t sure he approved of a foolishly reckless half-brother, even if it was to help the river.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
His half-brother asked if he was named after
himself. Triton had to hold back a laugh.
His brother was powerful yet ignorant, a dangerous combination. But right now, one that kept him hidden. Triton would not destroy that protection yet, he was not needlessly cruel.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton hid his knowledge of Percy from his father. He was good at keeping a straight face.
Triton also didn’t tell his mother though, she may not be vengeful but she would be rightfully angry with Poseidon. And that would give it away.
Poseidon didn’t seem to check on Percy often, perhaps because he didn’t want Amphitrite or Triton to know about him.
Jokes on him, Triton was already interacting with Percy.
He was careful not to visit him on days that Poseidon wasn’t busy though, no need to make it easy for him to find out about their meetings.
He wondered if his father had noticed Percy training his Hydrokinesis? (Or Triton supposed it was actually his Thermomancy, seeing how he wasn’t only controlling water. Ice control was extremely difficult for his heritage, perhaps he was able to do it so easily because he was emulating this water bending he spoke of.)
He doubted Father had noticed yet, his father cared but he would be too afraid to check often. It would not just be to keep Triton and Amphitrite from knowing but also to prevent any other immortal from noticing him checking on someone so often and investigating.
That would reveal Percy quicker than anything else.
It didn’t matter though, right now it worked in Triton’s favor.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton told off those two river god’s who’d been spying on his half-brother so much.
They had better things to do, maybe they could clean their own damn rivers instead of letting a child do it.
Truly shames to water immortals.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton decided that his half-brother should learn to use a trident.
It was the weapon of their family, and he would dishonor them to not learn it.
Percy was determined to prove himself more skilled than Triton expected. He made a trident out of ice. He wasn’t even trying to show off, but it was impressive.
Sure, it was brittle, but he could make actual shapes now, and they held for a short time.
He would be strong one day.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton could not believe his half-brother got expelled for doing as he was told.
So, what if they got dropped in a shark tank? Sharks weren’t dangerous anyways. They were absolute sweethearts as long as you didn’t try to hurt them. He’d had a dozen pet sharks over the years!
Honestly that guide should get fired.
Perhaps he should introduce them to a true dangerous sea creature

OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton decided he’d let Percy play around long enough, plus there were some incidents in the sea that were taking more of his attention.
If he’d been raised in the sea, he would already know the basics of sea law and culture. He could not remain ignorant there, not if he was to be a prince of the sea.
Thankfully, Triton didn’t need to worry about that weakening the protections around his interesting half-brother. Percy was convinced there was an underwater society. Triton could work with that.
He gave him books, just a few. It would be a good base for future lessons.
He also had to give him a dictionary for the Halmaheran language apparently, he didn’t know it. What did land dwellers teach anyways?
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton was not pleased that he’d had to go away, sure he’d expected to be busier with the incidents happening, but this was far worse than he’d expected.
There was a massive oil spill.
It required all hands-on-deck to try and save as many lives as possible, and to try and relocate all the coral.
It was a massive undertaking with a lot of merfolk and sea beings involved.
Triton was working overtime both in his duties as a prince to reassure the people and work with the rescue crews to show that he was willing to help, and also in his duties as a messenger and ruler of the tides.
He barely had time to breathe for over two months.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
He finally had the time to check on Percy again.
He needed to be sure he’d been doing his reading and practicing the Halmaheran language.
He only spoke to Percy in Halmaheran, make sure he could get used to it. Percy actually did pretty good.
The river seemed dirtier than the last time he was there though.
His eyes narrowed, that was suspicious.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
His half-brother just called him a great friend.
Were they friends?
Triton hadn’t had a real friend in a long time.
His last few
they hadn’t made it to the current day.
And then there was Athena.
He supposed he would accept his half-brother calling him a friend.
It certainly meant nothing to Triton, he was an immortal, he was not attached to his mortal brother.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
He couldn’t believe the little brat didn’t tell him about his birthday!
Birthday’s were extremely important for children!
This would not stand.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
He gave Percy his presents, and almost turned to hunt down this mortal ‘Smelly Gabe’ who apparently wouldn’t allow his brother to properly celebrate his birthday.
How dare he.
He held his anger in though, watching Percy find the sand dollars he’d spent a week carefully compressing and shaping, along with the bracelet that he’d made for Percy.
The coral conch shell charm on it would keep him updated to Percy’s health.
He had a feeling he’d want that in the future.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
I don’t get my brother’s obsession with going beyond in his thermomancy.
It’s a powerful magic, but he’s doing well so far. He should focus on using weapons now as well. He was able to make a solid trident that didn’t break so easily now, why did he need to work on drawing water from plants at his age?
Thermomancy was a dangerous magic, he was doing excellent at it but going too far to harm his source of power, the power he inherited from father. I tried to distract him from it.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
So apparently, Percy learned how to draw water from plants.
Well, if his brother wanted to work so much on that then Triton supposed he could humor him, at least then he would know when his brother was practicing.
Triton assigned him homework on drawing moisture from other sources, ones that shouldn’t be too hard with his base of skill.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton was touched by the gift Percy had gotten him.
It was clearly hand-made, it still radiated Percy’s power.
The bracelet fit his color theme, and the charm was a sparkling version of his trident. It was very well made.
He wasn’t sure his trident charm in return was as good, but Percy seemed happy, so Triton simply decided to get better presents for him in the future.
This one was practical, and something Poseidon should’ve done if he wasn’t off pretending Percy didn’t exist.
Maybe Triton was a little bitter on Percy’s behalf.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton added assignments for Percy to do.
Things that he should’ve been raised learning, Triton would fix his father’s failings.
He made sure to quiz Percy often, making sure that he was up to date on current events and knew about the different forms of magic he may face.
He made sure he knew the territories to avoid and how to identify them.
He made sure his brother could be the perfect prince when needed.
Triton would make sure he knew his heritage.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton couldn’t help being impressed.
He’d guessed already which magics Percy would probably be best at.
Thermomancy for one, but that was common in children of the sea (or at least Hydrokinesis was). Though Percy seemed to have a special knack for it.
He had the potential for Siren’s song, but that would have to be trained. It had some instinctual parts yes, but to really unlock it’s power you had to focus it. Percy would require a lot of time before he was truly skilled at it.
But what Percy had shown a subconscious skill for was Purification.
It wasn’t considered a dangerous magic at all, but it is powerful. And it was extremely useful these day’s with all the pollution around.
Percy had a clear talent for it, cleansing the water around him even without meaning to.
It seemed he’d started practicing some of it, though being him, he’d immediately jumped to one of the more advanced forms.
Sand dollars are extremely valuable when made by a Purifier (someone skilled in Purification). Triton could make some of course, and he was rather good at purification magic out of necessity, but Percy had an instinctive knack for it that was rare.
Triton needed to encourage that.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Of course, another of his brother’s schools were run by complete imbeciles.
Expelling him because an exhibit collapsed, how idiotic. He was not pleased.
But he gave Percy more work, distracting him from the expulsion.
He gave him more history to study, he decided to work with him with other weapons. A sword would be a good weapon for now. Perhaps knives next.
He still worked with him on the trident though, that was the weapon of the sea and the one he must know.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Those filthy idiotic immortal pieces of trash told Percy that he was a demigod.
How dare they, they ruined all the work Triton had put into keeping Percy untouched from the immortal world.
Percy had questions, Triton would have to be careful about answering them, less he reveal too much and completely destroy his little brother’s protections.
But first, he paid a visit to those minor river gods.
No one would miss them.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
He played along in court, he needed to see Percy, but his father had requested his presence. So, he went to his father.
Playing the prince was tiring right now, he just wanted to talk to Percy about what he’d learned.
His only reassurance was the conch shell pin that was connected to Percy’s charm. It showed that Percy was safe.
He should give Percy a way to escape from danger.
Just in case.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Explaining the history to his little brother was
 difficult.
He had to be careful, he couldn’t tell him about certain things, things that may lead to him understanding and accepting the immortal world around him.
Him accepting the sea was one thing, that didn’t damage his protection, but for him to accept the immortal world as his
that couldn’t be allowed. Not yet.
So, Triton made sure to explain it, made sure to tell him he would be in danger, because he would not allow his brother to be harmed.
Percy is his brother.
The sea protects its own.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Percy was getting better at purification magic. Triton was glad.
Percy’s gift was impressive, he kept it in his room.
The purifying stone probably wouldn’t work long. But it would last a few weeks probably. Triton liked it regardless.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton made sure his brother had an escape route now. The pearl would bring him straight to Triton if he was in danger.
Hopefully he would never need it.
He also gave him a book on the Siren’s Song.
It was one of the most basic though, just describing it in detail and explaining some of the most basic exercises to train it.
It wouldn’t help him much yet, not without an instrument to practice putting his power through first.
Using your voice was both the easiest and the hardest way, it was the most powerful, but the hardest to control once you’d unlocked it. It was always best to start with an instrument.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Percy was attracting monsters now.
He was very lucky it was a young, weak, empousai, the younger ones tend to reform slowly. He should be safe for a while from other monsters hearing about it.
He needs to get better at fighting with water though if it’s going to be his go to. Exploding the pipes was extreme, but if he was going to turn to the ocean first, then he would need to improve on controlling it in a fight.
Triton started drilling him in it.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton couldn’t help but be pleased, Percy had a large interest in the sea magics.
He seemed to have a strong affinity for some of them.
That usually came with drawbacks in other areas though.
Percy was young now, so it was hard to tell. Perhaps his mortal half would balance it?
Nonetheless, he was more than willing to help Percy learn more.
Even if it meant he had to go learn more, he’d never paid a huge amount of attention in those classes. His skills lay more in other areas.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton spent a lot of time studying sea magics, so he could teach Percy more.
His father was pleased that Triton was showing an interest at last.
Ugh.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
So maybe Triton assigned a Cyclops to watch over Percy this year.
It didn’t do any good it seems.
He was not pleased that the school was just as idiotic as the last five.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton got Percy a Rainbow stone.
Making them is ridiculously hard, but he was able to convince (read: bribe) Natia, one of the strongest in enchantments that he knew, to make it.
He added the protections himself though, he didn’t trust her to not try to tap into it.
The Rainbow stone’s were almost shaped like gems, made of a pale white stone that seemed flecked with rainbow glitter. Channeling a little power into it would make a rainbow form.
He also made sure his brothers had drachmas to pay for it if he needed to.
He was touched by the hair pin his brother made for him. He quite liked it, it matched his trident well.
The sand dollars though, those were very impressive. He was already matching the skills of mer’s Triton knew that had practiced for many years.
Percy may be skilled in his Thermomancy, but his purification was where he truly shined.
Father was confused as to where he was getting the small presents.
Triton didn’t tell him.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton was annoyed that his little brother’s school didn’t accommodate his differences. He was of the sea not the land, yet they expected him to learn through land methods?
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
The Cyclops didn’t succeed in keeping Percy out of trouble, despite literally being an alibi, somehow they failed to get Percy out of trouble.
How troublesome.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
There was a small event coming up, between some of the younger high-ranking merfolk.
Normally he wouldn’t attend those, but it would be a good introduction for Percy.
He could make up a backstory for him and did.
They wouldn’t suspect much, Triton had helped do introductions before, usually because he was ordered to or as a favor, but they didn’t know that.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Making the stone to give Percy the tails he would have if he were changed to a merman was amusing.
His little brother was delighted by it.
It was
 adorable.
He was determined to keep his little brother out of the mess that the prophecy would cause. He wouldn’t let this one go. Percy was his brother, he would protect him at all costs.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
He was extremely pleased with how Percy handled the little event.
He showed he was strong, he showed he was polite, and he showed that he knew how to stand up for himself too.
Triton of course took over when the one brat thought that they could speak out of turn in his presence, but otherwise he let Percy learn.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton took Percy to a few events after that. He wanted to be sure that Percy could handle the politics that come with being high ranking in the sea.
He was doing well and had made some friends.
He found it every so amusing that Percy didn’t quite understand yet that the brighter and more visible you were in the sea, the more dangerous you generally were.
Percy’s tail glittered, even in the dark of the sea depths. It’s blues of many shades shone, the flowy additions almost glowing in the dark.
Percy was befriending quite dangerous merfolk to match.
Samoa was all white, though that wasn’t natural, she’d created a magic dye that lasted for a few years. Her hair was naturally a brown. She just wanted to seem scarier. She was very good at making sand dollars though. Her and Percy were bonding over that.
She was probably the least dangerous of his friends.
Elei was dangerous, but not in magic. She was the daughter of one of the generals of father’s army. She was trained as such too. Though she was young, and thus had little experience, she was still a good sparring partner for Percy. She usually won. Her hair and tail was a deep red, though it seemed green in the dark of the ocean. Her tail was also one of the sleekest he’d seen, a sign that she had zero skill in magic.
Masina was a rising expert in controlling the ocean currents. They could weave them in ways that most trained for years couldn’t even begin to imagine. And they were only a little older than Percy. Their tail was a blend of blues and yellows, some dashes of pinks mixed in as well. It was bright and very flowy, like Percy’s. They tried teaching Percy how to use the currents, but he definitely did not have an affinity for the currents.
He said he felt he would lose himself to them. That’s alright, it was a sign that the current’s just weren’t for him.
Triton couldn’t help but find it amusing.
Fetu and Lagi were twins, both were skilled in different magics.
Fetu had an unnatural talent for the Siren’s song, and many were wary of him for it. Lagi was one of the best healers around. Both were rarer talents, but their parents had been powerful themselves, so it made sense. Their tails were matching yellows, bits of orange shining through them, and they were flowy, though not quite as much as Percy’s. Their hair was obnoxiously bright yellow, a real sign of the danger they posed.
Triton was glad Percy was making such powerful friends, they would be great help to him should he need it.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
The summer solstice was nice.
Percy had given him a box made of ice.
Percy seemed to like ice a lot. The runes were carved well, he was pleased with it.
He also liked the sand dollars. They were very well made.
Percy had clearly improved a lot, they now drew in power like they were supposed to. They weren’t quite perfect, drawing in the power far slower than a proper sand dollar, but he was improving.
He gave Percy a hair pin that he’d had made for him.
His hair was getting long after all, he needed it out of his face for battles.
Also, it may or may not be enchanted to keep him safe from poisons. Not many would be able to affect him with his Purification skills, but better safe than sorry.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Getting an enchanted waterskin for Percy’s birthday required a bit of work.
He could make one, but that would clearly have his signature on it. That wasn’t something easy to hide.
He ended up managing to get one when they had to go to a
 dinner
. With Oceanus. His grandfather.
His mother didn’t want them to fight too much, but father was always very tense when they interacted with him.
The important thing was that Oceanus let him take one of his old waterskins (the proper name for this one was Oceanskin, but Percy probably wouldn’t care).
They were useful when on land, but Oceanus hadn’t left the sea in ages. It was one of the few that just felt like the sea in general, not a specific signature.
Percy was delighted with it, so it was worth the curious gleam in Oceanus’s eye when he left.
Hopefully Oceanus didn’t try to investigate.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Percy was back at school, and apparently had gained a sense for curses.
It wasn’t that surprising, he probably had the ability sooner, just hadn’t been around anything cursed.
It was a useful skill to have, very valuable. Father always had a skilled Purifier to check over any gifts given to those at the courts.
Nonetheless, Triton got him more books on Purification. He supposed it was time for Percy to branch out more.
Curse breaking was where purifiers really shone. Though none were skilled enough to break the great curses, perhaps one day.
He was curious how quickly Percy would get the hang of it.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Percy got him a variety of foods for the fall equinox.
Really that wasn’t good, Triton liked them a lot, and Percy had infected him with a matching love of blue food.
It was hard to explain to father.
He wondered how father didn’t know about Triton interacting with Percy yet.
He wasn’t exactly hiding it anymore.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton had worked hard to get Percy some clothes fit for a prince for the winter solstice.
It was hard because he’d never needed to buy them. Everyone was confused and interested in his sudden interest.
Father made a comment about him finding a lover.
Disgusting, as if any land dwellers were worth his interest except for Percy.
Honestly merfolk were so nosy.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Percy’s teacher was annoying. Triton didn’t like them at all.
He suggested Percy use school to practice his “princely” skills. Might as well, it would be good practice when away from the sea.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
The stone horse Percy had enchanted was impressive. They were obviously done by a novice, but he could see the work his little brother put into it, he approved.
He kept it in his room, it made it feel just a little safer.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
He loved the equinox, Percy got him a sunflower preserved in ice, they were really pretty flowers.
Poseidon had finally noticed that something was up, as had Amphitrite.
Apparently the three years of disappearing a lot to talk with Percy, and the last few months of literally bringing Percy down here didn’t give them a hint. But him bringing home a sunflower did.
Go figure.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton got Percy a star stone. They were one of his favorite things when he was a child. To see the stars underwater, he thought his little brother would appreciate it.
It was after all, something his father had failed to give Percy.
The stone could project the stars around, but otherwise it was almost like those snowglobes Percy had told him about, except with stars.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
So perhaps Percy’s latest school flooding had been his fault. But the school deserved it.
That pathetic excuse of a teacher expelling Percy just because he had been kicked out of schools in the past.
She was trash.
On another note, he got Percy more books on purification magic. It made sense that he failed to fully release the curse when Triton finally met this “Guinea pig”, though now it was a fish.
Circe was too powerful for Percy’s current level. His attempt to release the curse simply morphed it, changing it to more sea based instead.
It was a pretty good first attempt though.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton got Percy more new clothes. He needed to be sure Percy had a full wardrobe by the time he went to camp. That would be when Poseidon would notice.
Triton was perhaps being a little petty, but he wanted to rub it in his fathers face a little that he had been the one to raise Percy, he had been the one to teach him of his heritage.
Poseidon had done nothing for Percy, it had all been Triton.
He also got Percy an Ocarina, it was a good starting instrument for Siren’s Song. It would help Percy improve his curse breaking to mix Purification and Siren’s Song.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Triton liked the geode snow globe Percy made him. It was sparkly and rather unique.
It also matched his tail.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
He thought it was hilarious that Percy’s mom didn’t approve of the hair dye. The hair dye was brilliant. It was made by Samoa after all, and her dye wouldn’t come out or let any of the original color show even at the roots for a long time. It was magic dye after all.
Those of the sea rarely had plain colored hair, there’s a reason Samoa created the dye.
Father was one of the few to have straight black hair, even Triton’s own was simply a very dark blue.
He quite liked Percy’s hair.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
He decided that Percy needed something to keep his belongings safe now.
He was growing older and would likely be going to camp soon.
Triton gave him a bag made by the Cyclops’s. It wouldn’t let anyone, but Percy, take things out of the bag, and would protect the contents from outside forces.
Percy seemed delighted, he was glad. His little brother needed more people looking out for him. He just hoped his gifts were enough to help.
OO OO OO OO OO OO OO OO
Percy was going to a boarding school.
Triton was a lot less pleased than he let on.
Percy would be away, harder to reach, harder to talk to.
He was glad he’d given him the rainbow stone because otherwise he might have to influence Percy’s mom away from that school.
And that would be hard to explain.
Still though, he worried, Percy would be alone for the year.
But surely Percy would be alright for the year, it’s not like he’d be going back.
Nothing too horrible could happen in the space of one year.
Right?

This was an idea that @poisonlove12 came up with while we were talking on discord so I had to write it.
🐙🐙🐙
I was planning of making it NSFW but I might do that in a part two if I get asked to.
The sea witch's curse (yandere sea witch Melone X female reader)
In the lowest depths of the sea a powerful creature resided. Deep in the canyons where the coral glowed and some of the most vicious of predictors lurked. Some say a purple hue would guide those brave enough towards their sweetest of dreams or their worst of nightmares.
The greatly feared witch of the sea, Melone sat in his lair, looking at what he most desired through the crystal he held. A poor unsuspecting human which had taken his fancy. An evil smirk grew on his lips as he heard the young females voice as she talked to her most trusted servent.
"How I wish to see the outside world, every night I dream of it all, the soft lush grass, the soft breeze to brush past my skin... And the ocean... I wish to see it with my own eyes, I want to see what marvels it holds" she sighed.
He heard of her wish to explore the outside world and her plans to finally escape from the lonesome life she feared she'd forever be trapped in.
"I will make my escape in the early morning of next Wednesday" were the the words that excited the lavender haired male beyond belief. It was perfect, too perfect. His sinister grin only grew more as he looked towards the human woman he had caged up for the soul purpose perfecting his solution to your happily ever after with him. The poor woman shook at her cage in fear of what his expression may have meant.
"You've served your purpose well but it seems I no longer have any use in you mortal..." The male said with amusement in his voice, he tried his best not to chuckle but a few still managed to come out of his mouth.
"Please, please let me go!" The woman pleaded, somehow managing to speak while being underwater.
"I'm afraid I can't... Your fate has already been sealed" he said as he gave a flick of his wrist which caught the attention of the shark like creature to approach the cage and wait before the male opened it.
"Junior, you must be so hungry" he simply said as he ignored the woman's screams before he swam over to his a wall full of bottles and containers.
"The venom of the crown of thorns..." he muttered as he grabbed a small bottle with one of his black tentacles decorated with rings of purple.
"A jellyfish's tendril..."
"The scale of a flying fish..." He muttered as he grabbed two containers and made his way back to the carnage the creature had left behind before grabbing the pinky finger that remained from what his junior had caused.
"And the flesh, blood and bone of a human" he said as he made his way to the cauldron.
It would only a matter of days before you were his.
🐚🐚🐚
You cautiously walked across the pier of the kingdom, holding the rags that you wore as close to you as possible. A few early rising citizens greeting you only for you to give a coy wave in response. You looked to the castle that stood proudly over the town, it wouldn't be long until the servents noticed your disappearance and that's why you needed to leave quickly.
You soon began to run as you saw the tall wall of stone that sheltered the town from the very waters that use to the town's life line. You satchel filled with maps, books, gold, jewels and more. This was your escape from the lifestyle that had been cursed upon you, confined to the castle for your whole life all because of your parents paranoia.
You felt across the stone surface, many years ago it didn't exist and this town was a flourishing fishers community, now the waters were filled with small crabs and trash. What made your grandfather build these walls, you may never know.
"Oh your majesty, what brings you out at this hour of the morning" a familiar voice cooed making you jump. You turned your head to see a familiar male, a man you had only seen a few times in the recent years of your life yet he seemed to know everything about you.
His long lavender hair flowed lightly in the breeze, revealing the scar across his left eye.
"Melone, you scared me to death!"  You exclaimed as you held your racing heart.
"There's no reason to be afraid..." He smiled before diverting his green eye from you to the wall.
"You're trying to find a way to the old abandoned fishing docks, aren't you?" He said in a mischievous tone. You swallow a lump in your throat. The male had never harmed you, in fact he was rather kind but you could never ignore that mysterious air about him, maybe it was the sultry tone that alway lingered in his voice or maybe it was how he never seemed to age. Either way you couldn't deny that male had motives of his own.
"If you're planning of finding a weak spot in the wall I wouldn't advise it, sixty years isn't enough to weaken a wall constructed like this" he continued.
"However I believe there is a underwater tunnel that allows the water to flow in through, I think I heard talks about a five foot shark getting through one" he said.
"Really, where are they?" You asked as your eyes sparkled with newfound hope which caused the males heart to flutter. He drew closer and draped an arm over your shoulder and used his hand to pull you chin to show you where the sea and land met while pointing to it with his free hand.
"Most of them are too deep to reach but over there should have one that you might just be able get through" he said in his signature sultry tone as he began to guide you over. His hand move to you forearm and gently rubbed it. The male relished in how close you were. A sinister smile dared to form on his lips as he realised how easily you were falling into his trap, soon you would be in his domain and he could shed this mortal disguise.
"Have a question, I don't know if you'll know the answer but-" you said before he put a finger over your lips, tracing them lightly.
"You can ask me any question, I'll know the answer"
"Why did my grandfather build this wall?" You asked. The male looked at you through the corner of his eye.
"He was afraid of what hid underneath the depths of sea, a creature that possessed great power... One that claimed the lives of his three older brothers" the male explained in a darkened tone.
"He feared for his life... Paranoia consumed him until his time on this earth ended" he continued as he continued to guide you to the very tunnel he used whenever he decided to come on land, at first the iron bars had been an issue but after a few decades the bars wore away and eventually snapped apart like twigs. He had been waiting decades to get revenge on the man who took his eye only to find out he died however curiosity got the best of the sinister creature when he heard about his granddaughter who had been isolated for her whole life, maybe out of pity the male decided to visit you whenever the castle held events. He had fallen absolutely smitten to say the least. You were almost perfect for him, the only flaw he saw in you was your mortality but over the past few months he had figured a way around that.
All he needed was for you to enter the water and he could put his method into action.
"It's just here" he said as he pointed to the planks underneath you.
"All you need to do is dive under and swim through the tunnel" he explained, you were eager to get in the water however that soon faded into worry as you began to splash around as your body began to sink.
"It's... It's too deep, I can't swim!" You began to panic. The male simply held his hands out for you to grab. He should of know that this would have been a problem.
"Your majesty, just kick your legs and lift your chin up" he instructed you, you followed his instructions and after a minute or so he let go and you gently bobbed up and down in the water.
"Now move your arms up and down in the water like how a bird flaps it's wings" he continued before his legs began to tremble causing him to nearly fall.
"Are you ok?" You asked. He felt sweat cover his body as he realised that sea water had gotten on his hands earlier; the potion was wearing off. This wasn't part of his plan.
He turned as he heard a frantic stampede of guards quickly approaching. The male almost wanted to pull at his hair in a rare case of frustion. Normally such an predicament wouldn't matter to him but the potion he had used to become human suppressed his powers and even after he reverted back to his original form it would leave him only able to perform weak spells for a day at least.
Without a second thought he dived into the water and grabbed onto you before pulling your body under the water with him. You began to trash around in his grip as he pulled you along. After a few seconds before he reached the the tunnel only to find to his displeasure that a new set of bars were there. He let out a groan as he felt his human legs begin to unravel as he resurfaced to allow you both to breath.
You desperately coughed and gasped for air. You eyes opened to see the royal guards Infront of you. You felt a feeling of guilt and shame well up in your chest, you knew you had been caught.
You tried your best to push away from the male but you felt several slimy tendrils wrap around your form.
"Melone... What's wrapped around me?" You squeaked.
"I'm sorry, I didn't want to scare you but I'm afraid I have no other choice then to do this now" the male muttered as he pulled a blade against your chest, the blade had a lustrous gleam that made it look like mother of pearl. Your head was pulled back harshly as he wrapped something around your neck. He muttered a few lines in a foreign language before diving the blade into your chest, you saw the water around you turn red before glowing purplish hue, you felt no pain but still you passed out as the male dragged you under once more.
🐚🐚🐚
You groaned out as you finally regained consciousness. You opened your eyes to find yourself laying on-top of Melone's nude form. You you let out a groan in disgust of the scandalous situation you found yourself in.
You then noticed how weirdly the light shine and how you hair flowed like it had a mind of it's own, as well as how the lower half of Melone's body sprawled out and over you in such a weird way. It was only when you saw a school of fish swim past you that you realised where you were. You quickly held your breath as you pried the black and purple tentacles off of you and tried you hardest to swim to the surface. You tried your hardest to hold your breath but eventually you lungs gave in. You waited for the water to enter your lungs and you painful death to come but it didn't happen, instead you seemed to breath normally and the water escaped from the newly formed gills on your neck.
You continued to swim until you were just about to break the surface. You closed your eyes readying yourself to break the surface but you didn't. You opened your eyes to see that the surface seemed to turn into rubber, no matter how hard you tried you couldn't break it.
"I don't appreciate you swimminging off while I was asleep" a voice behind you cooed as you felt the slimy appendages rub up and down your legs. You turned around to see Melone in his new form, his lower half was like that of an octopus.
"What did you do to me?!" You screamed at the male. You wanted to cry but all you tears mixed just became part of the sea.
"I granted your wish, you so desperately wanted to escape the life of a locked up princess" he explained in a prideful tone.
"You wanted to explore the sea so badly I thought I'd give you the ability to see more the any mortal could" he continued.
"No... No this... This isn't what I wanted" you sobbed as you covered your face with you hands as you began to sink.
"Oh dear, then you should of been careful for what you wished for" he said in a mother's tongue and he wrapped himself around you once more.
"No let go of me! Get away from me you monster!" You screamed as you thrashed in his grasp.
With his hand Melone traced the choker that now graced your neck, he admired his work now knowing that you were now his and his alone.
"My sweet, little darling... I know your scared, I know that everything is so new to you but I promise you I'll keep you safe... Nobody would dare to harm what belongs to the feared sea witch" he cooed.
"Just think of my little gift to you as that of an engagement as you humans call it" he sweetly whispered in your ear which only scared you more.
"Just think about it..." He muttered in pure bliss as he used one of his tentacles to force you eye contact to him.
"We'll be a wonderful pair of lovers and just think about how beautiful our little children will be" he continued.
"Children!" You screamed.
"Of course, isn't the deepest form of love when a man sows the seeds of love within his darling" he cooed. You face grew red and your body stiffened at the thought, how would he even do such a thing with you?
"If you so desperately wish to leave me I'll allow it but you'll be on your own... No one can break the spell and no one will even dare to look at you when they see you adorned with my work" he slyly spoke.
"Why would you do this?" You continued to sob.
"I already told you, I did it out of love, I did this so we could have a future together" he explained as he brushed his fingers though your hair.
"But we barely even know each other..."
"I have an all seeing eye dear, I can watch you whenever I please" he said before licking his lips.
"May I add, you've got quite the womanly figure under all those layers of clothes... Perfect to bare my children" he commented with a gleam of lust in his eye.
"You Pervert!" You screamed as you began to struggle once more.
"Stop making excuses already, I've claimed you as mine but if your so insistant to refuse then I might just give you an even worse curse... Maybe I'll turn you into a little fish and cage you up or I might condemn you to the same fate of all my enemies" he slyly said as all of his tentacles squeezed your form tightly.
"So are you going to behave for me or will I have to turn you into a guppy?" He asked in a stern tone. His eye filled with rage.

Deep Blue Sea: Chapter III
First Taste
Full Version can be found on Ao3 as well
You awoke more refreshed than you thought you would, considering the previous day's events. You'd fallen into slumber much more quickly than expected, especially since you had been stared at the entire time.
Speaking of which, as you rubbed your eyes and yawned as you stood in front of the glass, he had moved. No longer was he glaring while hiding behind the furthest rock, he was now... glaring while hiding behind one of the closer ones. Ah well, progress was progress...
“Good Morning” you greeted him, “I'll get you something to eat in a few minutes...” He didn't bother responding, although that was not unexpected at all. You had hoped that he would have at least slept... wait, did merfolk even sleep in the conventional sense? Or did they just shut off parts of their brain, like some fish did? You'd have to check Dr. Griffon's notes.
You headed to the fridge to get out a bucket that looked remarkably like a commercial sized ice cream tub. But when you pulled off the lid, instead of the delicious scent of chocolate mint, it was a different, yet totally familiar. You'd smelled it since you first set sale on your father's yacht as a child.
Kelp.
You quickly glanced at the page of the notes, written in a crisp, clinical penmanship, was the Doctor's notes on the basic care. A half to three quarters of a kilogram a day of Macrocystis pyrifera
per day, as fresh as possible, spaced out over the course of the day.
Surely that wasn't it? You flipped the pages rapidly, attempting to find something... anything. But aside from that one simple instruction.... nothing.
The man had been subsisting on the same food day in and day out for God knows how long? Like some sort of animal at the zoo...no, an zoo animal would get more than one type of food... he was being fed like a lab rat. You gripped the kitchen counter so tightly, you thought you had left indentations of your fingernails on the marble surface.  You were going to have a talk with the Doctor. Someday. Eventually.
You carefully weighed up a portion of the Giant Kelp, into a bowl...before pausing... Did merfolk even have flatware? Or did they eat straight from the kelp, like picking grapes? Or was it used in conjunction with other foods, like a salad? While it wasn't your area of expertise, you knew that Giant Kelp were quite healthy for humans to eat, full of nutrients... but still, you couldn't shake the feeling that this wasn't enough for the man...
Either way, the bowl would have to do for the moment.
Climbing the stairs leading to a platform that was a few inches above the water's edge, you placed the bowl down, within reach, if he swam up.
“I got you some food...I don't know if this the way you eat it, or if you eat with other things...” you said hesitatingly, attempting to find him, although the surface refraction made seeing where he was impossible. No response yet again.
Your pocket buzzed, and you quickly got off the platform to answer the phone. Force of habit, you'd seen far too many of your fellow students suffer the catastrophe dropping their cell phones into the briny depths...
The number was unfamiliar, but you took a deep breath and accepted the call.
“Good morning dear” the oily voice on the other end was unmistakable. Out of the corner of your eye, you sensed movement. The merman had jerked, as if shocked by an electrical probe. Could he hear the voice? How acute was his hearing? So many unanswered questions.
“Good morning Doctor” you answered politely.
“I was just calling to make sure you and it were settling in fine.”
“Yes, yes... everything's going well, but I do have a question. I was looking at the the notes you left me, and other than kelp, there's no other options on what he needs to eat.”
“Kelp is all it needs” the term 'it' was starting to really grate on your nerves. “It's been fed a steady diet of kelp for the past three months, and it has been sufficient for its needs”
“But that can't be healthy...he needs a variety. If I ate nothing but chicken caesar salads for the rest of my life, I might get the nutrients I need, but I would driven crazy by it”
The doctor's voice, even with the phone's distortion, noticeably darkened “I must remind you, my dear, that you are thinking of it as a person...not as what it really is, an animal, a mere beast. Just throw the kelp in, and it will feed.”
You started to argue...before thinking better of it. If the Doctor felt that you weren't capable to see the merman as he did, there was a good chance he could convince your father it was too much for you to handle, and and take him back. And while this aquarium wasn't even close to being the real thing, you were certain it was a hell a lot better than what he had been in, prior. You couldn't risk him going back, so you bit your lip.
“I..I understand, Doctor. I just want to make sure he is...” you struggled to think of something that would convince him you thought the same way, (but you refused to refer to him as an 'it') “kept in the best condition.”
It seemed to work, for Griffon's voice lightened up “Of course you do...I would be happy to come over and show you anything you need to know, answer any further questions..”
“I'll be fine Doctor, I'll be able to figure this out...”
“Are you sure? I can alwa-”
“Oh look,” you said quickly, “My wedding planner is calling right now, I have to go. Goodbye!” You hit the end call button, before throwing the phone across the room in anger, where it bounced off an arm chair and onto the floor. If the screen cracked, you didn't really care at the moment.
“Pompous.... ignorant... DOUCHEBAG!” you yelled out, before bobbing in your head in mockery “He's not a person, he's an animal....” you imitated his annoying voice. “You got your head so stuck in your 'precious' research, it's stuck in your ass hole, Doctor....”
You were about to rant some more, maybe pick up a pillow to throw...when you finally remembered you weren't alone. He watched you, from the same position, but his glare had been replaced by...surprise?
You flushed, embarrassed by being caught in such an emotional state. It wasn't proper, that a woman of your stature should be having what was, admittedly, a temper tantrum.
“I'm, sorry... I shouldn't have acted out,” you balled your fists, “but... man, he really gets on my nerves...I'm not sure how anyone could tolerate him for any length of time. And you had to put up with his dehumanizing ass for months! Can't say I blame you for hating us all...” You distracted yourself from the urge to find something else to punch, by walking over and retrieving your (thankfully intact) phone.
“Look, I'll try to convince my father to let you go... to free you or something. It might take time, my father's stubborn like that, but if I can just get him to se-”
“You mock me”
You started, looking around to find the source of the voice. It was weird, like you heard it, but not with your ears... it had a slight echo, but not from the room, more like it was bouncing around in your skull. It's quality sounded so familiar...like being underwater..
“Wait...that was you?”
“I was under the impression you knew I spoke, human.”
You had been looking so forward to him actually speaking, that you hadn't really processed what he had said.
“I wasn't mocking you, I'm-”
“Your 'father'” the word was wrapped up with extra contempt “would never consent to it, as he said before, I've caused far too much damage to his precious possessions to allow to swim free. He'd rather have me killed. And yet.....you continue to remind me of my captivity....”
“But he lets you stay here with me, his only child.” you countered, “if you're sooo dangerous, you could have grabbed my arm a few minutes ago, and just dragged me in and held me down until I drowned,”
The man hesitated, and then slowly came out from his hiding place, fully revealing his full form to you. Pale, nearly white flesh melded seamlessly at his hips with nearly translucent scales with just enough iridescence to remind you of mother-of-pearl. His colour reminded you of the albino creatures on the sea floor. Perhaps he was from that area. But, his eyes.....his eyes were far too 'human'? If he lived in the depths, you'd expect bigger proportioned eyes, or none at all.. Oh God, you were analyzing him as if he was some sort new fish...
His 'voice' helped knock you out of your clinical observations... “There are some things worse than death...or even imprisonment” He left whatever he meant unspoken.
“You haven't spoken to anyone while in captivity so far, so why speak to me?”
He seemed a bit taken aback by the question. His eyes, so intently focused on you, darted away for a moment. “They were not worth my time talking to”
“You're dodging the question...why me?”
Another awkward pause. “It seemed to be the only way to silence you, otherwise you would chatter until the oceans dried up”
You chuckled at the turn of phrase as you scratched the back of your neck. “I guess I wanted you feel at home here... to feel at ease.”
"One could hardly feel at ease in this pale mockery of my 'home'. Although..” he paused, surveying the rocks and flowing “it is a vast improvement over my previous residence”
“Just a guess, but I'm going to assume a tub of water would be better than what you've been dealing with”
“Indeed”
An awkward silence passed as he fiddled with a coral necklace, around his neck, a brilliant scarlet shell worn as an amulet. You were determined not to let this conversation be the last. “So, my name is-”
“I already know your name, human”
“Well, I don't know how it is for you, but it's common courtesy for names to be exchanged” you ignored the term he used. He could have used worse terms. He bit his lips, clearly hesitant “Look, I won't tell anyone. Hell, not like anyone would believe me...” You placed your hand, fingers splayed out, against the aquarium glass.
It seemed an eternity, but, eventually, cautiously, like he thought you could harm him through the glass, he placed his hand on the opposite side of the glass, on top of yours. His palms were bigger than yours, but not much more. Long, elegant fingers stretched out much farther than yours, with slight webbing between them, almost to the first knuckle. A lot less webbing than you thought, considering that he would be a swimmer. Perhaps he used his lower body to propel more- Wait, you're thinking like a scientist again, stop that.
“Vergil”
You felt giddy. The scientist portion of your brain was ecstatic that you had done the equivalent of First Contact. But more importantly, as a human, you'd somehow garnered the trust of a extremely guarded (and rightfully so) person. You weren't going to waste this chance.
“It's nice to make your acquaintance, Vergil.” you smiled. He did not reciprocate, but it didn't bother you at all. You'd made some progress, and that was good enough. “So, now that we have introductions out of the way, I'd like to ask some basic questions, if you don't mind”
“Within reason, I still do not trust you, human” Annnnd the moment was over.
“Well, I was going to ask what you eat. Kelp might be great and all that, but there's gotta be some variety in your diet. I can probably get it for you, as long as it's not something from the deep ocean, or something”
He drew back for a moment, and you thought he was going back to hide behind one of the rocks. But then you heard his distinctive voice reverberate in your head.
“There is.... a particular fish I am fond of”\
A special thank you to @drpepper280 for coming up with a better term than Mer!Vergil:  Mergil, or Vergill..... I’m not sure which one I love more.

Cross the Kingdom- Ch 7
“Consider This Revenge”

More about this project: Intro Post | Other Info
Three days went by much quicker than Crispin had anticipated. It had barely taken Ambrose any time at all to figure out where he had gone. When he came to Roger’s house in search of Crispin, only to find him sleeping peacefully upstairs Ambrose had decided to let him stay put. Ambrose still came in to check on him during the few days that Crispin had spent at Roger’s house, making sure that all of his injuries were healing properly.
Aside from his visits from Ambrose, Crispin hadn’t gotten up to much in those three days. He mostly spent his time up in his room getting lots of rest, which was a stark contrast to living on his father’s ship where he was always ready to spring into action at any given moment. He welcomed the change of pace, and savoured every moment he had to himself. Most of that had more to do with the fact that he was trying his best to avoid Rebecca. Every time he left his bedroom, she hounded him with questions that he didn’t really want to answer. Sometimes she would come in and check in on him while Roger was at work, but he’d always pretend that he was asleep so that she wouldn’t bother him. It left him feeling a little bit guilty, but he was really in no mood to be putting up with her and her never ending arsenal of questions.
Part of him seriously considered telling her the full truth about what had happened between him and his father, but he knew better. It wouldn’t really solve anything. It would only leave her with even more questions. She’d be angry for not telling her sooner, and Crispin had no patience to deal with that. It was probably better that she didn’t know. He didn’t fully trust her with that information anyways.
Finally, the third day had came. The thought of leaving left him feeling equal parts nervous and excited. He had lived in Coral Bay for the first thirteen years of his life, and then spent another three living on his father’s ship. He had never been away from the coast, and was rarely that far from Coral Bay. He was going to miss Roger too. Even when he was out at sea, he knew that his next visit with the man who had raised him was never far away. Once he left, Crispin couldn’t be sure when he would see him again. On the other hand, maybe spending some time further inland might not be such a bad thing. No one would know who his father was, and for once his reputation wouldn’t follow him.
He had started packing the few belongings that he had with him the night before.
Most of his belongings had been left on the Mad Maiden, but he had a couple sets of clothes that he always kept at Roger’s place. Aside from that, all he had were his throwing knives-- including the one that his father had tried to kill him with. He kept them all in their sheaths, which hung from his belt. He kept the one from his father tucked away in his bag for safe keeping.
Ambrose had told him that he should aim to be back at his ward around noon hour. It was half past eleven when Crispin had finished washing his hair, at Roger’s insistence. As far as Roger knew, Crispin was meeting his employer for the first time today. “You should at least try to make a good impression,” he had told him the night before, “I know you’re not going to be able to get that knife wound wet, but at the very least you should try to wash your face and your hair.” Crispin didn’t fight him on the matter. He simply agreed and promised Roger that he’d get to it in the morning.
He’d be cutting it close, he realised as he wiped his copper coloured hair dry. He grabbed his shirt and coat, draping the towel over his shoulders before he headed back to his room. He was just reaching out for the doorknob, when he heard Rebecca calling out to him from the other end of the hall. Crispin couldn’t help but to roll his eyes. Why did she have to wait to for the worst possible moment? “What?” He snapped as he pressed his back up against the wall, trying to keep his injured wing hidden.  He had been able to retract his right one, but his left one was still wound up in the makeshift sling that Ambrose had fashioned for him. Crispin began to feel around for the doorknob, trying to get out of the conversation as quickly as he could.
“What time are you leaving?” Rebecca asked him, as she began walking down the hall towards him.
“Soon,” Crispin replied. His hand finally landed on the doorknob. He opened the door, stepped backwards into his bedroom before shutting the door between him and Rebecca.
He sighed, grateful to have Rebecca out of the way. He felt only a little badly about trying to avoid her, but he would make sure to say a proper goodbye to her when he left. He flopped down onto his bed, lying on his side so  that he didn’t hurt his wing any more than he already had.
The door flung open and Crispin spun around to see Rebecca standing in his doorway. “What do you want?” He snarled as he frantically pulled his damp towel around his torso, trying once again to hide his wing.
“Why are you like this,” She demanded, “Why does it seem like you’ve been avoiding me ever since you arrived?”
“Maybe because I have been,” he said, shrugging unapologetically.
“What’s gotten into you?” She asked, shaking her head, “We used to be so close when we were younger, and now you’ve spent the last three days avoiding me. What’s wrong with you?”
Crispin sighed. They had been much closer when they were younger, but once Crispin had developed his powers he found himself growing distant from her. Part of him  found dealing with his powers to be very exhausting, and even though it had been his choice not to tell her it was a decision that he stood by. He had no idea how she would react, and even if she did take the news well she wouldn’t understand it. He had never meant for for them to grow so distant but the less he spoke to her the less inclined he would be to slip up.
“Look,” he said, “sorry for avoiding you and all, but I’ve had a really, really rough past couple of days.”
“You say that and yet you haven’t told me everything that happened,” Rebecca said, folding her arms.
“Maybe because it’s none of your business,” Crispin snapped, “It doesn’t concern you, and I don’t want you getting involved.”
“Yeah, but why not?” She demanded, “We used to tell each other everything. You’ve changed so much.”
“Yeah, well,” he said, “I don’t know how to tell you this, but people have a tendency of doing that.” He grabbed his shirt, which lay in a crumpled ball at the foot of his bed. “I’ll tell you what I can, but can you at least let my get my shirt on?”
 “Fine,” She said.
Crispin backed up closer to the wall. He held the towel in place before quickly pulling his shirt over his head. “Alright,” he said, “I got into a fight with my dad. A really, really bad one. It turned violent, and he tried to kill me.”
“What were you arguing about that was so bad that he tried to kill you,” Rebecca asked.
 “I’d really rather not say.”
“Oh come on,” Rebecca said throwing her hands up in frustration.
Crispin sighed. “Look, do you want me to tell you this or not? Because if you’re going to be like that, then I’m just going to leave.”
Rebecca let out an impatient huff. When she didn’t say any more, Crispin continued. “I ran away after that, and wound up here and tried to get to your place. I was injured really badly  though, and Ambrose noticed and took me in. We got talking and I started telling him about what happened with my father,” When he noticed her annoyed glare, he quickly added, “I didn’t tell him everything. Just that he tried to kill me. He mentioned to me that he has a friend who works on a train and was looking for an assistant. So I told him that I was interested in the position. I think my father thought that he did kill me, and that’s why he told you I killed myself. If he finds out I’m still alive, he’ll probably finish the job.”
“You pretty much told me everything I already know,” Rebecca remarked.
Crispin shook his head. “Maybe one day I’ll tell you,” he said, “But right now, I’m just not ready to talk about it.” He had no intention of ever telling her anything, but the comment seemed to shut her up. Finally.
“Do you think you’ll ever come back here?” She asked.
“I think so,” Crispin said, “I mean, we’ll see. But I need to wait until things with my father dies down a little bit.”
“I’m going to miss you,” Rebecca said. Before he could respond, she flung her arms around him, hugging him tightly.
Crispin tensed up as her hand brushed up against his wing. He froze in a state of panic, hoping that she wouldn’t notice. She hadn’t seemed to notice the last time, after all. But when he felt her hand patting up and down his injured wing that was when he knew that the one event that he had worked so hard to avoid was beginning to play out.
 “What...?” She murmured
Crispin pulled away. He pulled on his jacket and grabbed his bag. “I need to go,” he said briskly, “I’m going to be late.”
“What’s going on,” Rebecca asked, as she chased after him.
He ran down the stairs, trying to get to the door as quickly as he could. He decided it was best just to ignore her. He pulled on his boots, but Rebecca stood in front of the door, blocking his only way out.
“I’m not letting you leave until you tell me what’s going on,” She said.
“Oh for fuck sake,” he snarled, “I’ve already told you everything.”
“You’re still hiding something,” she pointed out.
“Yeah, I am,” Crispin said, “But I already told you, you don’t need to know everything, ok? I really don’t have time for this!” He was trying to buy himself some time. He knew Rebecca well  enough to know that she wasn’t going to let him pass until he gave her a straight answer. Crispin racked his brain trying to find some sort of excuse that would explain the extra bulk beneath his shirt that she had felt, but he couldn’t come up with anything.
He wasn’t going to give in so easily. Rebecca probably had secrets that she kept from him, and he was entitled to that same right. Just because they grew up together didn’t mean that she had to know everything that was going on in his life.
Crispin shoved his way past her, pushing her away from the door and into the wall. He hadn’t really wanted to escalate to this point. He wanted to leave on good terms, but she had backed him into a corner and left him with no other choice.
“I already told you everything that I was willing to tell you,” he said, “Sorry that wasn’t good enough for you. I’ll see you around, I guess.”
“You’re unbelievable,” was the last thing that Rebecca said to him, before he left the house and slammed the door in her face.
It was deceptively cold out. The sun shone down over the coastal city and there was not a single cloud in the sky. It almost looked like it could be summer, but the chilly weather served as a reminder that it was still the middle of fall.
Crispin shoved his balled fists into his pockets to keep his fingers warm as he walked at a brisk pace down the streets of Coral Bay. He made his way past lines of brick buildings, trying not to think about his final conversation with Rebecca. It wasn’t how he had wanted to part ways. He thought about turning back and apologizing, but he was already going to be cutting it close. He could afford to be a few minutes late, but he didn’t want to keep Frank and Ambrose waiting. It would have to wait for another day, he decided as he made his way down the narrow side streets.
He found his way out to the Harbour Strip. During the day, the Strip was always bustling with activity. Throngs of people made their way down the strip, either heading to and from the Coral Bay Harbour which lay at the very west end of the strip. Rows of shops and inns lined one side of the wide, cobbled road. The other side remained empty, providing an unobstructed view of the vast sea that seemed to stretch on for eternity.
Crispin walked down the Strip, getting jostled by the crowd as he headed towards Roger’s tavern, the Clockwork Crow. He made a conscious effort to try to avoid bumping into anyone. Normally, he didn’t care. The Strip’s main road always seemed far too narrow to accommodate the crowds of people that always seemed to be there. This time though, he was trying to avoid hurting his shoulder again. The pain had died down a lot over the past few days, but it still hurt when he poked at it. While it had yet to happen, he knew that the pain would be almost unbearable if he accidentally bumped into someone.
He finally reached Roger’s tavern. The sign for the Clockwork Crow swung gently from the soft autumn breeze. The door opened with a loud creak, though no one inside the noisy tavern appeared to notice. Much like the street it sat on, the Clockwork crow was bustling with activity. People sat at tables, chatting with their friends as they shared a pint of ale. It was a little early for most people to be getting drunk, though that hadn’t stopped some people as they giggled and shouted amongst their peers.
Crispin spotted Roger manning the bar counter. Roger was too caught up in his work, to notice as Crispin came traipsing in. As he began sauntering towards the bar counter, Roger finally saw him. He had just finished serving some patrons who sat on the tall bar stools when he had stepped back and locked eyes with Crispin. Rather than greeting him with his regular friendly smile, Roger’s eyes widened with panic and motioned for him to turn back.
Puzzled, Crispin took a step backwards but he was too late. A tall figure emerged from the shadows of the very back corner of the room. The whole tavern fell silent as the man stood on the opposite side of the tavern glaring at Crispin with a look instilled fear into many. But not Crispin.
“Hello father,” He said with a smug grin, “Miss me?”
Marcus didn’t respond right away. He continued staring Crispin down with a look that could kill. But even from afar, Crispin could spotted the calculating look in his father’s icy stare. It was the same look that he got when they started coming up with a plan to attack enemy ships. Crispin didn’t back down though. He stood tall, or as tall as someone who barely scraped past five feet could manage, and held his ground.
“You’ve got a lot of nerve showing your face here,” Marcus growled.
“And why’s that?” Crispin said taking a daring step towards his father, “Because you already told the crew that I killed myself? Since that’s clearly not true, why don’t you tell them who really made the attempt on my life that night?”
Marcus pulled out one of his throwing knives. “Keep talking,” he snarled, “Keep talking, boy and I’ll do it. You know I will.”
A sly grin played across Crispin’s face. “Then fight me.”
“No, no,” he heard Roger shout in protest, “Don’t do this, you two!”
Neither Crispin nor his father heeded Roger’s warning. Marcus stormed across the room like an angry bull towards his son. Crispin remained rooted to his spot, his feet planted firmly to the wooden floor.  “Never make the first move in a fight,” His father had told him once. Crispin had always followed that advice when he could. For the most part, it had brought him some good results in various fights.
Marcus raised his fist, ready to strike at him with his knife. As he brought the knife down, Crispin grabbed at his wrist using all the strength that he had to stop the knife from getting anywhere near him. Despite his best efforts, he was no match for his father. Even at the best of times, his father had always been a much better fighter. With all of his injuries, Crispin couldn’t hold his father back and the sharp tip of the knife came closer and closer to him by the second.
Crispin swung his leg up, kneeing his father in the stomach. It hadn’t been a particularly hard blow, but his father was caught off guard and that was all that he needed. His father doubled over, dropping the knife to the floor. Crispin kicked it away, sending it skittering across the ground.
At this point, the whole tavern was watching. A few people even cheered, egging the pair on. From the back of the room where the crew of the Mad Maiden had been sitting with their Captain, a cheer broke out. “Fight! Fight! Fight! Fight!” They banged their fists on the table, in time with their cheering.
Before Crispin could make his next move, Marcus swung his fist and punched Crispin square in the face. Crispin ignored the blood that streamed out of his nose and trickled over his mouth. He’d had far worse. A simple punch to the face was not going to stop him.
The blow left Crispin dazed, as though his father had quite literally knocked the sense out of him. Crispin swung his fist, hoping to land a punch the same way his father had done to him but he missed his target and his father grabbed his wrist.  Before he could even reach for one of his knives, Marcus shoved Crispin to the ground. Crispin lay on his back with the wind knocked out of him. There was a searing pain that ran up and down his injured wing and it was only then that Crispin remembered Ambrose telling him that he should refrain from getting into fights. Well, it was too late now. All he could do now was hope that he hadn’t inflicted too much damage upon himself.
Marcus unsheathed his broad, curved sword. He raised the blade high above his head, ready to bring it down at any second. Crispin watched him, ready to duck out of the way at any given moment.
He kept his eyes locked on his father for what felt like an eternity as he waited for even the most subtle shift in his father’s weight that told Crispin that he was about to strike.
“Any last words?” His father asked in a low voice.
Crispin was about to open his mouth to deliver what he didn’t actually think would be his last words, but it was Roger who spoke instead.
“No!” He shouted, “No! I won’t allow this!” He grabbed at Marcus from behind, and pulled him away, “It’s too damn early for this!”
Crispin stared with his eyes wide in disbelief as he watched Roger restrain Marcus. In all his years, he had never seen Roger get physical with anyone. Crispin had always seen him as this gentle and down to earth fatherly figure who wouldn’t even hurt a fly. It probably was not the first time he had done something like this, given Coral Bay’s reputation. Roger had told Crispin about many drunken customers who had stepped out of line, but he never talked about having to do anything other than yelling at them until they left.
“Have you gone mad, Roger?” Marcus said through a clenched jaw as he tried to free himself from his friend’s tight hold.
“I won’t let you do this,” Roger grunted, using every bit of strength to prevent the much stronger pirate from breaking free, “He’s hurt, god dammit! You should be bloody ashamed of what you did!”  He locked eyes with Crispin. “Go Crispin,” he said, “You need to leave.”
Crispin scrambled to his feet, and wasted no time getting to the door. “Goodbye, Roger,” he said, “Tell Rebecca I’m sorry about this morning.”
“I will,” Roger said, “Good luck, my boy.”
“And Dad,” Crispin raised his voice, hoping that his next words would reach the ears of the crew, “I’ll never forgive you for trying to kill me and telling everyone it was a suicide. Fuck you.”  He would have loved to have seen his father’s reaction, but he could tell that it was growing more and more difficult for Roger to hold him back.
Crispin flung the door open and started running down the street as fast as he could manage. He pushed people out of the way as he made his way down the strip, before he ducked into a narrow side street. It would be a less direct route, but at least he wouldn’t have to worry about pushing people out of the way. When his entire body seemed to ache he slowed to a walk. He paused for a moment, leaning against a building as he tried to catch his breath. Crispin held his hand up to his nose in an attempt to stop the blood from dripping down his front any more than it already had. When it didn’t let up, he continued making his way to Ambrose’s place.
Crispin staggered his way down the road, which brought him just outside of the ward.
A tiny bell rang above the door as he pushed the door open. He could hear two men talking to each other as he walked slowly towards the source of the voices.
“That must be him now,” He heard Ambrose say. A door at the end of the long hallway creaked open and Ambrose stepped out with another older man close behind him.
Ambrose’s face immediately fell when he saw Crispin. “Oh, Crispin,” he said, “What have you done?” He shook his head before ushering Crispin into one of the rooms.
The room was identical to the one that he had woken up in three days ago. White walls, white ceiling, a window with dark curtains and a small metal cot next to a wooden bedside table.
“Sit down,” Ambrose ordered, gesturing to the bed.
Crispin sat down. “I’m sorry,” he said in a muffled voice.
“It’s fine,” Ambrose sighed, “Let’s just hope nothing else is broken.” He opened the door slightly and called out, “Frank, could you do me a favour and get me a damp cloth? Thank you so much.”
Ambrose pulled up a chair and sat in front of Crispin. “I thought I was very explicit when I told you to take it easy,” He said disdainfully.
“I was,” Crispin protested, “I promise!”
“So how did this happen,” Ambrose asked as he folded his arms across his chest, “Did you fall out of bed?”
“Yes,” Crispin said. He knew that Ambrose was being sarcastic, but he decided to see if he could get away with it anyways. Ambrose had made it very clear that he wanted Crispin to get lots of rest, but he had specifically mentioned to avoid getting into fights with anyone. Marcus Hadley was the one person that he had singled out and told Crispin to just steer clear of, which meant that Crispin had gone and gone and done the one thing that Ambrose had asked him not to do.
“Come on Crispin,” Ambrose said, “We both know that is not what happened.” He shook his head a second time. “I never should have let you stay with Roger.”
The door opened and Frank stepped in with the damp cloths that Ambrose had requested.
“Thank you,” Ambrose said as he took one of the cloths from the older man’s gnarled hands. “You can stay here if you want,” He added,  “But I’m afraid I’m going to need a moment to tend to Crispin.”
“Of course,” Frank said, “If you need me to get anything else, just let me know.” He stayed by the door, with his hands behind his back as though he were waiting for more orders from Ambrose.
Ambrose took the cloth and dabbed away at the blood that was caked on to Crispin’s face.
“Well,” he said finally, “It doesn’t appear to be broken, so we have that to be thankful for. Is there anything else that’s hurting you? And please be honest this time.”
“No,” Crispin said, “The fight got broken up before my father could do any real damage.”
Ambrose let out an exasperated sigh. “I’m going to pretend like that’s a joke,” he said, “Because if I recall correctly, I told you that you should steer clear from your father if he happened to be in town.”
“But for what it’s worth,” Crispin countered, “I told you that I was going to beat the shit out of him if I ever saw him again. And it’s not like I went looking for him. I didn’t even know he was in town.”
“You don’t like being told what to do, do you?” Ambrose remarked as he dabbed the last bit of blood off of Crispin’s face.
“Well you did tell me to get lots of rest,” Crispin pointed out, “Which I did do.”
“That doesn’t really matter if you go out looking for a fight the moment you leave the house,” Ambrose said, “I shouldn’t have let you go.”
“I wasn’t looking for a fight,” Crispin said, “And I’m glad you let me stay with Roger.” The three days that he had spent resting up at Roger’s place had been exactly what he needed after the recent events. In addition to getting plenty of rest, he spent a great deal of time talking with Roger, who always seemed to know exactly what to say to make him feel better.
“Right,” Ambrose said dryly, still evidently regretting his decision. “Let’s just do what we came here to do, ok? Crispin this is Frank. Frank, Crispin.”
Frank stepped forward and extended a hand. “It’s nice to meet you,” he said as he shook Crispin’s hand. “Ambrose has told me quite a bit about you.”
Crispin’s brow creased. He hadn’t known Ambrose for very long, so what exactly had Ambrose been telling him? Crispin knew that he had a reputation around Coral Bay; a side effect of being the son of one of the most feared pirate captains. He wondered how much Frank knew about him at this point, and how much of it was just speculation on Ambrose’s part.
Nonetheless, Crispin managed to force a smile and say, “It’s nice to meet you too.”
“Ambrose told me you’ve found yourself in a bit of a bad situation,” Frank remarked.
“I find that tends to happen a lot,” Crispin said. He had endured a lot of bad situations, as Frank had put it, aboard his father’s ship. Getting into fights, either on the ship or on land, was almost part of his daily routine. The night he had escaped from his father hadn’t even been his first near death experience.
“Well,” Frank said, “You should be safe with me. We’re pretty secluded, as I’m sure Ambrose mentioned to you. I’m sure you won’t find it so hard to stay out of trouble.”
“Well,” Ambrose sighed, nodding towards the bloodied cloth that he had used to clean up Crispin’s face that now lay on the bedside table, “Good luck with that.”
“Hey,” Crispin said, “I’m trying my best, ok?” When Ambrose raised his eyebrows in disbelief, Crispin quickly added, “Well, for the most part.”
“Alright then, Crispin,” Ambrose said, “How about you prove to me that you’re not the little trouble maker that everyone seems to think you are.” He reached into his pocket of his heal, and pulled out a sealed envelope. He handed it to Crispin.
Crispin took the envelope, studying it curiously. There was no name or address written on it. It was just a plain, cream coloured envelope sealed with red wax.
“It’s a letter I wrote for my daughter,” Ambrose explained, “I want you to deliver it to her. You’ll be in the train for most of the journey, so I trust that you won’t find this too difficult.”
Crispin tucked the envelope into the pocket of his coat. “I think I got this.” He said confidently.
“Good, I’m glad to hear it,” Ambrose said, “I’m looking forward to hearing back from my daughter.”
Crispin flashed a smug grin at the healer. He hadn’t made a great impression with Ambrose by doing the one thing he had been told not to do. Crispin still didn’t see how the fight had been his fault-- it wasn’t like he had planned on running into his father, and his father would have hurt him regardless of what he said or did. Still, he was determined to make amends with Ambrose. After everything that he had done to help him, the very least that Crispin could do was deliver the letter.
Frank finally mentioned that it was about time to get going. “I’d love to stay a little longer,” he said, “But we’ve got a long journey ahead of us, and we’re already a bit behind schedule.” He said a quick goodbye to Ambrose, before heading out the door, but Crispin hung back a bit.
“I just wanted to thank you for helping me,” He said to Ambrose.
 “I’m a healer,” Ambrose said, “It’s what I do.”
“Was that the only reason that you did it?”
Ambrose was silent for a moment. “No,” He said, “I did it for my daughter. I wasn’t able to help her when the Patrol took her, but if I can do anything at all to prevent that from happening to anyone else then I’m at least going to try.”
Crispin nodded, but before he could reply, Ambrose spoke up.
“You should get going now. Frank’s waiting.”
“Of course,” Crispin said with a nod. He rose to his feet, and stepped out of the room where Frank had been waiting. He followed the man towards the door, looking back just in time to see Ambrose heading into the back room. The healer met his gaze and gave him a reassuring smile before closing the door.
Frank opened the front door, the bell chiming as it had when Crispin had entered. He held the door open as Crispin stepped out into the street, ready for the long train journey that lay ahead of him.
