✨ShadowPeach Bio Parents Bio AU Q&A! 23/10✨
I'm LIVE on my TWITCH page drawing Spicynoodle! Come and say hi!
Welcome to the Q&A! A space where I can answer related or similar question about the Shadowpeach Bio Parents AU! If you submitted your ask anonimously, then you’ll have to check the whole post if it’s answered here, if it’s not, worry not! Your asks might have been used for a future comic or just in the queue~
Anonimo ha chiesto: Ok so your Bio parent AU (loving it so much by the way) takes place after season 5 right? I thought it would be cool if you touched on Monkey Kings issues with Mk using the circuit on him. I eat that stuff up. if its already going in a different direction then that's ok, just a suggestion.
Aww in the end I don't think I can fit this in the story. It's absolutely an amazing idea, and I had thought of adding it for so long, but in the end the final part of the story will go differently.
Anonimo ha chiesto: How do Wukong and Macaque react that they have two grandchildren?? (Kai and Nya)
Will probably die of emotions. The fact that that's both their son's son/daughter, and that's their nephew/niece. It would blow them away. I'll never have children, but they completely change your prespective.
@shadowpeachera ha chiesto: AGHHHHHH XIAOTIANS WEAPON IS SOOO COOOOLLL AND THE WAY YOUR SHOWED HIM MAKING IT AGHHHHHH SO GOOD HOW LONG DID IT TAKE YOU TO COME UP WITH THE DESIGN? THE COLOURS? THE EVERYTHING UGHH I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS COMIC AGHHH
I think I did a couple of sketches before the final design, but I went on pinterest quite a lot before to see some variations of magical staff
@beanspassin ha chiesto: Do you think Macaque and Wukong will ever find out about each other secretly checking the other out? Cause let’s face it, Wukong will get a MASSIVE ego boost when he finds out Macaque was staring at him. 🤭
I think Macaque can HEAR when Wukong is checking him out. Wukong probably would negate the fact that he's checking him out, bc my boy is just a mess of emotion
@tessthe-cheesecake ha chiesto: Hello! I just wanted to say I really love your Shadowpeach Bio Parent AU I just have two questions, one: how is MK handling four ears? I assume he doesn't like crowded places (if yes then me too bud me too) ok second question would MK ever go back to being Wukong's successor but in his own way instead? :)
I think MK doesn't want to be a successor bc he doesn't want to be the next Monkey King, but he still wants to be the Monkie Kid. Also, I think he might be starting to feel himself a little more like an heir then a successor
@minli-daughter-of-wukong ha chiesto: So, would you have changed MK’s weapon if you thought a staff wasn’t really his style anymore? Also how did you come up with the idea for the sunset staff and can you give tips on how to find the right kind of weapon you’d choose for a character? So this is so long lol
I aint real good with weapon/characters. This was my first time matching a weapon to a character to be honest. I wanted to create something that was similar to both Wukong's and Macaque's staff, but at the same time being something new. With a new color palette that could represent the kind of hero MK wants to be
@cavern-of-shenanigans ha chiesto: Ok ok ok this is kind of silly but MKs new staff kind of reminds me of a twirling baton So combined with Macaques showmanship and the scarf bit MK tied on, they could play around with it and do a joint shadow play/ribbon dance performance! Maybe add him into the hero warrior story? Nice mother son bonding activity because its cute
HA! true! they are performance duo!
@ashmeertheimp ha chiesto: Hi love your fan art, story, and art style! What if piggsy and Tang went on a long trip and lives in flower fruit Mountain
I don't think freenoodle could survive living so close to shadowpeach
@italian-wizarding-world ha chiesto: Duuude i love, Love, LOVE!!! your art, and your Mk, Wu and Mama it's just too sweet, just two question: 1 Why sunset and not dawn? is it because usually sunset are more impresive? or maybe the staff has two "forms" depending on him using more his shadow powers and if so can he change between them? 2 We need red son reaction to Mk essentially magical girl transformation even if it's just a sparkling staff, because i think it would be epic/hilarious. We need more moment about them and Mei lookin at how dumb both are
I liked sunset because in a way MK started more with Sun powers and he is now discovering more his Macaque side of powers, so he's approaching a little bit the shadows (so his journey was from day to slowly twilight)
Anonimo ha chiesto: Have you ever thought about drawing an adult MK? I love your drawing style, and I wanted to see what an adult MK would look like, as well as Mei and Red Son. Você já pensou em desenhar um MK adulto? Eu amo seu estilo de desenho, e eu queria ver como seria um MK adulto, assim como Mei e Red Son.(I'm Brazilian by the way and I love reading your Au)
Maybe in the future....?
Anonimo ha chiesto: I REALLY REALLY REALLY LOVE NO ..I ADORE YOUR DRAWINGS MAN!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ EVERY DAY I REREAD THE WHOLE LMK COMICS OF YOURS..!!!!!!❤️❤️ And hey l have a quition!!! What if mk interrupted wukong while his meditation and like wukong thinks he's in the past what is he gonna do when he see mac!?🌝❤️ Probably we will see a lot of hugs and kisses?🥹
Can you imagine since they are so cuddly even if they aren't together yet again in the AU, that because of this Macaque for a good moment DOESN'T notice the difference?
Anonimo ha chiesto: Can we get a character sheet for chiyou?
nope sorry, but he will come back no worry
Anonimo ha chiesto: Who else wants to see Pigsy and Tang show Monkey King and Macaque pictures of MK growing up?
Aww I think Wukong and Macaque would die from cuteness but at the same time feel a great remorse that they weren't there for their child when he was little. They are glad freenoodle was with them, but still, It's a big chunk of his life that they missed.
@itz-izzyart ha chiesto: So with the noise canceling headphones, does mk wear them so he (hopefully) doesn’t start hearing the past again or is it just something he wears to help him sleep at night?
Both. It helps him muffle the noise.
Anonimo ha chiesto: Would Wukong get ptsd if MK somehow got a circlet himself ?
He would probably loose all his immortalities rather than let MK have a circlet.
@loseranddummy ha chiesto: I have a question≈ is Peng gonna be in your lmk bio parent comic by chance?
mmmm nope, sorry
@oddogoblino ha chiesto: Beeeeeg monke armmssss...meant for hug jail...
yessss..... and cudlleeeeeee...
Anonimo ha chiesto: :D was macaque grooming mk while they were waiting for the weapon to be forged
yup!
Anonimo ha chiesto: HI! Hope you're well and staying hydrated. Would we/could we see more Lilo and Stitch refs for your ShadowPeach bio parents au? I saw the last one and couldn't stop laughing. 😆 Maybe a beach scene or something?
I'll have to see the movie again and I'll see if new idea come in my mind
Anonimo ha chiesto: Have you ever thought about that because Macaque was gone from the living world for so long he doesn't know how use modern technology. Like Wukong's phone will go off when he isn't there and Macaque can't figure out how to get the stupid thing to be quiet
They are both gay boomers, your honor
Anonimo ha chiesto: In your shadowpeach au who is a morning person and who is a night owl Macaque or Wukong?
none of them. Wukong sleeps like 12 hours and Macaque like 5. (but now he's sleeping more thanks to Wukong but still wakes up earlier than Wukong)

uhhh if you don't mind, could i ask for wukong and macaque (separately) with an s/o who's a popular singer/idol? i figured it could be interesting to write considering wukong's stage fright and macaque's love for performing. i've been having random thoughts ◉‿◉
- 𝐑𝐞𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐲𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐠 - 𝐇𝐢𝐡𝐢! 𝐎𝐟 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐨𝐧, 𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐫𝐲 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐭𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐨𝐨 𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠, 𝐈 𝐡𝐨𝐩𝐞 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲!
𝗪𝘂𝗸𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗮𝗾𝘂𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻 𝗜𝗱𝗼𝗹! 𝗦/𝗢 ♡
SUN WUKONG:
✩ He would be quite confused the first time you told him you are an idol
✩ Confused since he had no idea what the word "Idol" meant, but once you explain what you meant by that he would be amazed
✩ A little jelous you can stand on the stage singing in front of millions of people, you have his respect
✩ He's always on the public wearing his hoodie being part of the many people cheering your name and always on the front row
✩ He brought MK and Mei to one of your shows and ever since then the three of them (And also Red Son every now and then) go to your shows to cheer up on you
✩ He's very proud of you and always willing to help you backstage. You need a bottle of water?? You got it. A towel?? Sure thing
✩ You have merchandise? He's buying every possible thing he can, shirts, light sticks, anything
MACAQUE:
✦ An idol huh?? That was something he wasn't expecting to hear, but he's really happy for you
✦ Just like Wukong he would find his way to the front row on your shows but unlike him, he would just be silent enjoying the songs
✦ When you're performing there's always one or two people who throw stuff at you and everytime he sees this he tends to use his shadow powers discreetly to make sure none of those things hit you in the face
✦ At a certain moment he would eventually become something like your body guard keeping random fans away from you, specially if they do something that could make you uncomfortable (same goes to Wukong)
✦ He would be honored if at some point of the show you make a little "advertisement" to his shadow plays with the attempt to make more people assist to them
✦ Just like Wukong he's very proud of you for following your dreams
✦ Makes sure you are in good health, eating well and all that stuff in order for you to keep performing

Shopping Trip (Lego Monkie Kid fanfic)
Summary: The majority of the gang goes shopping. Then Wukong and Macaque play video games.
Warnings: Brief threats, Wukong and Macaque have issues to work through (they're also very dumb about the fact they love each other), swearing
Word count: 6,072
Author's notes: This would NOT leave me alone so here fandom, take the gays residing in my brain for the last two days. Sandy isn't here because I had no idea what he'd be doing. This is 90% indulgent Shadowpeach content for myself but hey, that's something. This is set post Emperor's Wrath. Enjoy.
“Hey, Monkey King, why d'you always wear your fancy robes?” MK questioned after the three of them took a break from training.
Macaque stifled a laugh, looking over at Wukong and revelling in the confusion on his face.
“What do you mean?” Wukong asked around a mouthful of peach flavoured crisps, crunching noisily on them.
MK shrugged and gestured. “You and Macaque always wear your fancy clothes whenever you come and just hang out with us, you can't be comfortable in it.”
“Look, kid, I hate to break it to you but we don't actually own any other clothes,” Macaque replied.
“I can make some though!” Wukong exclaimed, one hand already reaching to yank hair out of his head.
MK and Macaque rushed to stop him, the former tackling his hand still holding the bag of crisps, while the latter reached through a shadow portal to grab his wrist.
“Quit it Wukong, you already eat enough of your hair as it is, no point in you wearing it as well,” Macaque said with an eye roll.
MK’s eyes went round as saucers. “Please tell me that those crisps aren't hair.”
Wukong averted his gaze with a nervous laugh. “Whaaaaat? No, pfft, I'm not that- er-”
“Monkey King! You promised to start eating proper food!” MK whined, poking him in the cheek.
Wukong sighed. “Yeah yeah, I am, kid, I promise, now can I have my arms back?”
Macaque glared at him over MK's head, getting a returning glare.
MK gasped and jumped up, waving his arms wildly. “Oh my gosh, I know just what we should do?”
“Yuh-huh and what's that?” Wukong asked.
“Mei keeps telling me about this super cool new shopping centre that opened up the other week!” MK explained. “What if we all had a day out there and you guys can pick out some comfy clothes for hanging out with us?!”
Macaque shook his head. “Look, kid, I appreciate it but-”
He went silent as something yanked his tail, head whipping around to catch another tail quickly retreating to Wukong's side.
Oh that little-
“It's an amazing idea!” Wukong replied with a grin. “Let us know when you want to do it and we'll be there.”
“Funny how you now speak for both of us,” Macaque muttered, opening up a shadow portal beside him and reaching through to yank Wukong's tail.
The king turned to glare at the warrior, Macaque shooting him a shit-eating grin in return.
“Okay! I'm gonna go, I'm working this evening but I'll see you guys for training again tomorrow!” MK said before beginning to run back down the mountain. “Thanks again for the training!”
A beat went by before the two of them turned to each other.
“You know you could be more supportive of the kid,” Wukong snapped.
“Me? Really? Last I checked you were the one who abandoned his training!” Macaque argued, standing up. “Because that's what you always do isn't it? The great Sun-Wukong who always puts himself first.”
Wukong's jaw clenched, tail lashing behind him, and for a moment it seemed like they were going to fight again.
Then the king's shoulders heaved and his posture slouched. “Can we not do this right now?”
Macaque rolled his shoulders, the joints clicking slightly. “Running off again?”
“Can you stop?!” Wukong shouted. “I don't know what you want from me but you're not gonna get a rise. I'm done with this - with you always trying to bait me into another fight. I have people to look out for now.”
Macaque scoffed. “You can't tell me you actually care about the kid.”
“Bold words from someone who also cares about him,” Wukong retorted and Macaque's fur bristled. “Oh yeah, don't think I haven't noticed. While I was off doing very important things, you kept showing back up. Some part of you does actually care about MK, be honest.”
“Nope, doesn't sound like me,” Macaque stated, tail tapping against the ground twice as he opened up a shadow portal. “See you around, Monkey King.”
Wukong dashed forward, one arm outstretched. “No, wait, Macaque-”
The darkness surrounding him.
Silence.
Well, it wasn't quite silent, it sounded like everything was muffled and underwater.
Macaque took a deep breath, artificial air expanding his lungs.
Wukong was still there although it was like seeing him through murky glass, thumping a fist against the shadows on the ground before giving up and walking away.
Macaque floated in the inky expanse, debating on whether or not to return to his dojo before deciding that he would just stay here for now.
It was peaceful.
It was everything that outside wasn't.
~•~
“Hey boi!” Mei cheered, tackling MK into a hug before waving at Wukong. “Heya Monkey King!”
“Hey,” Wukong waved, pulling his loaned hoodie further over his head. “Hey bud, you sure that no one's gonna recognise me in this?”
“I dunno honestly but if not you can transform, right?” MK argued.
“Fair point.”
“I still do not understand why I have to be here,” Red Son complained, foot tapping impatiently. “If we are all here then can we go already?”
“No, sorry, we're still waiting on someone else,” Tang answered.
“Who else are we waiting for?” Wukong questioned. “The pig guy?”
Tang adjusted his scarf. “Oh no, Pigsy is at that food stall over there shouting at the chef because he sold us half baked churros while we were waiting.” He paused. “Speaking of, I'm going to go stop Pigsy before he ends up in too much trouble.”
“Literally who else would MK invite?” Wukong's eyes narrowed in confusion. “I don't even understand why Red Son is here.”
“Hey!”
“I swear if you invited Nezha then this is going to be the most boring shopping trip ever.”
“Ugh, I wish he'd invited Nezha, then I'd have someone else to make fun of you with.”
Wukong spun around with a curse, glaring at their final arrival, who hadn't even bothered with a disguise.
“Great, just great.”
Macaque shrugged. “Hey, I don't want to be here any more than you want me to be here. Only reason I'm tagging along is that I was planning to grab some food anyway.”
“But we're meant to be clothes shopping,” Mei interrupted, eyes watery as she stared up at the warrior.
“Yeah Macaque, you promised,” MK added, also staring up with large eyes.
“Look kid I didn't-” The warrior paused and sighed. “Fine, I'll buy some clothes. But I'm picking what I get, not you guys.”
The two of them let out a cheer and rushed back over to Red Son, beginning to drag him in the direction of a shop.
“I cannot believe that I'm gonna have to put up with you today,” Wukong groaned as the two of them set off after the trio.
“Hey, you're the one who volunteered me for this so if there's anyone to blame it's yourself,” Macaque responded.
Mei and MK had seemed to immediately start piling clothes into their arms, occasionally thrusting some pieces into Red Son's arms.
Wukong stumbled backwards slightly when MK seemed to just appear in front of him, holding up two pairs of pyjamas. “Hey Monkey King! Should we get these matching Monkey King™ pyjamas?”
“Hey kiddo, I'm wearing a disguise for a reason so maybe keep your voice down,” Wukong chuckled. “But yeah, absolutely.”
The king turned to glare at Macaque when the warrior snickered.
“Something funny?”
“No, it's nothing,” Macaque lied, one hand coming up to try and cover the smile on his face.
Wukong let out a loud, over-dramatic gasp. “Are you making fun of my bond with my apprentice? Are you making fun of our super duper cool friendship?”
“No,” Macaque sputtered, trying to get his laughter under control.
Wukong leaned in, poking him in the face. “You are! How could you?”
Macaque stopped trying to contain his laughter at the theatrics, golden eyes screwing up tight as he nearly doubled over.
Wukong's smile wavered as his gaze flitted across the warrior's face.
He knew realistically why Macaque would cover up his eye.
Seeing his unmarred face and having these moments made it almost seem like nothing had ever gone wrong between them.
When Macaque straightened up again he shot Wukong a quick glance, accompanied with a shy smile before returning his attention to the shop in front of them. “C'mon then, no point standing around all day. Gotta find you something to wear other than pyjamas.”
“Yeah and we've gotta find you anything to wear,” Wukong teased. “What do you even wear? Like, leather jacket and grunge aesthetic boots.”
“How the fuck do you know what an aesthetic is?” Macaque swore, turning back to face him.
The king shrugged nonchalantly and grinned. “What can I say, I guess I'm just cool like the kids are.”
The warrior snorted. “Yeah right, the day that you're cool is the day I haven't died before.”
A silence fell between them at that comment and something flickered over Macaque's features.
Wukong reached out to him before the shadow slipped away from him, walking over to a rack of darkly coloured clothes.
There was so much they still needed to talk about.
Macaque flicked through the different hanging articles before smirking. “So, what about the fact that Red Son has a crush on either MK or Mei?”
“Wait, what?” Wukong spluttered.
“When the three of them were together back there, Red Son was blushing and stuff. Can't tell which of them is making him fall for them but I'm not actually that surprised.”
Wukong stood stock still for a moment, doing a mental reboot while Macaque moved on.
“Wait, no, hold on you little shit, are you for real?” Wukong questioned.
Macaque nodded. “When we catch up to them, just watch. I wouldn't lie, would I?”
“I dunno, seems like you lie a lot.” Wukong narrowed his eyes dubiously.
“Well, I'm not lying about that.”
They wandered for a little longer before managing to catch up with the trio.
Okay, Wukong had to hand it to Macaque, Red Son did seem to be blushing.
“Hey, Monkey King, you made it! We lost you back there!” MK cheered before turning back to Mei. “Ooh, Mei, do you still have the thing we picked out for Macaque?”
“Kid I don't-”
“Found it!” Mei announced, holding up the black mesh shirt.
Macaque's gaze dragged over it before extending a hand. “Okay, I'll try it on.”
Wukong did a double take. “You like mesh?”
“Haven't tried it before but it looks cool enough. If I can get something to go over it then I'd probably like it.”
Red Son held up a black sleeveless turtleneck shirt from the pile in his arms. “Something like this?”
Macaque shifted the first shirt in his grip before reaching out for the other. “Sounds good.”
“Oh and there are some dark coloured jeans by the changing rooms, wanna grab a pair of those?” MK offered.
“Mhm.”
Wukong trailed behind the bunch of them, briefly wondering where Tang and Pigsy had gotten to.
Him and MK plopped down onto a bench just outside the changing rooms, MK's stack of clothes beside him.
“I'm gonna try them on after the others have tried theirs,” MK explained. “Wait a minute, why don't you have anything Monkey King?”
“Um, well, I just didn't see anything I liked all that much, bud,” Wukong lied.
“Oh okay.”
The boy got out his phone, playing some obnoxiously loud game while they waited for the others to get changed.
“Okay, we're done!” Mei called after a while.
“Come out then!” MK shouted back, shutting his phone off and putting it back in his pocket.
“Macaque, you coming?”
“Nope.”
“Aw, come on, pretty please? You look great!”
“...Fine.”
Mei stepped out, practically dragging Red Son and Macaque with her.
And wow, Macaque actually looked kind of good.
The clothes actually suited him.
The warrior wrenched Mei's iron grip off his arm before grumpily crossing his arms over his chest.
“Woah, you guys look awesome!” MK gasped, clapping his hands together.
Macaque rolled his eyes and frowned when he looked over at Wukong. “Quit staring, Wukong, don't you know it's impolite?”
Wukong smirked. “Thought you said I was impolite.”
“Yeah, I know that you are. Doesn't mean you have to give me more reasons for it,” the warrior complained before looking over at Mei. “Hey, can we wrap this up and buy this stuff already?”
“Nu-uh, we've still got loads of outfits to try on! You and Monkey King can wait here while we finish checking all these sick clothes out,” Mei replied.
Macaque grumbled something under his breath before going back to the changing room.
Three pairs of eyes turned to Wukong. “He's just always kinda cranky, trust me.”
“I heard that!”
~•~
“Ugh, how much sugar did you even put in that thing?” Macaque asked, nose wrinkling with disgust at the sweet scent coming off of Wukong's drink.
Wukong moved the glass away from his face, a bit of cream smeared on his nose. “Um, I dunno. It has chocolate, ice cream, sprinkles, some more chocolate, some normal cream, some kinda sweet milk, caramel-”
Macaque reached out and grabbed the drink out of his hand while he was distracted listing ingredients, holding it out of his reach. “You are going to clog an artery if you have that much sugar.”
Wukong pouted. “Macaque! Gimme back my drink!”
Macaque opened up a shadow portal under his hand, hovering the drink just above it. “You aren't going to have all of it to yourself or you will die.”
“I'm immortal, I can't die,” Wukong retorted.
Oh yeah.
“You aren't going to have it all to yourself or I'll steal all the wine you're hiding at your place.”
Wukong's eyes went wide and he leaned across Macaque, desperately attempting to grab it. “No! No! Fine, I'll share! Just gimme the drink!”
Macaque dropped the drink through the shadow portal, watching as Wukong's face fell.
As the king turned back to the table the warrior opened a portal again, depositing the drink - now with two straws - back in front of him.
“Come on, if you're going to clog an artery then I might as well do it with you.”
Wukong shot him a quick glare but moved the glass so it was between them.
Red Son slid back into their booth. “They're still ordering but wanted me to say they'll be back soon.”
Macaque glanced over to the counter where Mei and MK seemed to be arguing over the menu of sweet treats.
“May I ask a question?” Red Son asked.
“You just did,” Wukong teased.
The boy rolled his eyes. “May I ask another question after the one I am asking at this moment?”
“Mmmmkay.”
Macaque lowered his head to take a sip of the drink, throat burning at how sickly sweet it was.
He'd never understand how Wukong could stomach these things.
“Are you two in a relationship?”
Macaque choked on his drink and Wukong hit him on the back a few times while replying.
“No, never! Me? With him? Tch, as if! He's so- him! And I'm so me!” The king answered.
Macaque gulped in a lungful of air after recovering. “This is the one time we agree on something and it's that we are not a thing. I hate him, he makes me feel like my skin is on the outside and my fur is on the inside. I'd rather have my heart served up on a platter to the Lady Bone Demon than go out with him.”
“Ew, did you have to be so graphic?” Wukong complained. “You're gonna put me off my drink.”
“Good. It tastes like shit.”
“Because you have no tastes.”
“I do have tastes. Anyway, you seemed to conveniently leave out the fact that this drink is peach flavoured.”
Wukong shrugged and smiled. “It's my favourite.”
“You sure you didn't make this out of your hair?” Macaque questioned, lip curling in disgust.
Red Son huffed. “No, I paid for his drink. And there's no need for you two to be so defensive.”
“We're back!” MK announced, flopping down against Red Son's side. “What did we miss?”
“Ah, yes, you are back,” Red Son flustered.
Macaque and Wukong shared a look.
So that's who Red Son liked then.
“Duh, that's what I just said,” MK laughed.
“We ordered every dessert they had!” Mei announced.
“Oh no,” Macaque whispered.
“Oh yes,” Wukong purred, eyes lighting up. “Desserts for everyone!”
The warrior dropped his head to rest against the table, grimacing at how sticky it seemed to be. “Why did I ever let myself be dragged along here?”
“Because you're our friend!” MK said.
“Greeaaaat.”
~•~
“Omg, these stationary sets are so naturecore, I have to have them for my aesthetics blog,” Mei gasped.
Wukong nudged Macaque to grab his attention before whispering. “Hey, d'you have any idea what that means?”
“No idea,” Macaque admitted. “As established earlier, I know aesthetic but that's about it.” The warrior smirked. “Aren't you the one who's ‘cool like the kids are’?”
“Shuddup,” Wukong laughed.
Macaque's tail flicked up to hit him in the back of the head before looking around. “So, we kinda lost Pigsy and Tang at the start.”
“Yeah, it'll be fine,” the king replied calmly, waving it off.
“Maybe for you. I for one would like to not be on kid sitting duty for the next decade.”
“It's only been two hours,” Wukong stated, snickering at the defeated groan Macaque let out. “What's wrong? Too old to keep up?”
“Wha- no,” Macaque denied sourly before continuing. “My feet hurt though. I'm not used to walking around this much. Usually I just use my shadows to get places.”
Wukong sighed before holding out his arms.
The warrior stared blankly at him.
“Climb on, I'll carry you,” the king offered.
Macaque immediately began to walk away from him. “Nope, nu-uh, never happening, find someone else prince fucking charming.”
“Come on Macaque, your pride won't be that wounded if you let yourself take a break,” Wukong whined, following him.
The shadow’s tail lashed behind him as he walked through the aisles of the shop, trying to catch up to wherever the other three had run off to. “I'll take a break when I get home later. Feet being sore isn't the worst thing I've had to deal with.”
Unspoken words hung between them and Wukong followed Macaque silently until they reached the trio, staring at row upon row of cards.
“Hey guys, whatcha looking at?” Wukong inquired, propping his head on MK's shoulder.
“We're helping Mei pick out a card for her dad's birthday,” MK explained.
“You could make one,” Red Son added. “Although didn't you say it's tomorrow?”
“Yeah,” Mei groaned. “I was so busy helping MK train that I forgot.”
“You forgor,” MK said.
“I forgor,” Mei affirmed.
Wukong straightened back up, whispering. “What language is this?”
“No idea,” Macaque said.
“No idea what?” Mei asked.
“Nothing.”
“‘kay.”
Wukong smiled at Macaque.
The shadow returned it with a small quirk of his mouth.
It wasn't much but it was better than it had been.
~•~
“That's it, I am not being dragged into a spa, I'm calling Pigsy,” Macaque said, digging his phone out his pocket.
“You have Pigsy's number?” Wukong asked beside him before continuing. “You have a phone?”
“Yeah, and?” Macaque tapped onto his contacts. “Got Pigsy's number after the kid crashed out at my place one time. Also he makes good noodles.”
“I know right?” Wukong agreed, mouth practically watering.
“Hello! Pigsy's Noodles, how can I-”
“Cut the crap Pigsy, your kids are trying to drag me into a spa and I know that you and Tang are still somewhere in this shopping centre.”
“Oh fuc- okay, where are you guys, I'll come and get ‘em,” Pigsy sighed.
“Seventh floor, top right corner, next to the arcade place.”
“Wait, there's an arcade place next door and they chose to go to the spa instead?” Tang questioned.
“Red Son is trying to convince us all to get princess pamper sessions before we get wrecked and lose all our money to useless games,” Macaque explained.
“That'd do it. We'll be there in a few.”
Macaque hung up, quirking an eyebrow at Wukong's sad expression. “What do you want now?”
“You're gonna ruin their fun,” Wukong complained, gesturing at where the three others were currently crashed out on a bench.
“No, I'm just getting us the rest of the evening off,” Macaque argued.
When Wukong still looked upset he sighed.
“If I play your shitty game this evening will that make it up to you?”
Wukong brightened up. “Yes! Although it isn't shitty, take that back.”
“Maybe. Depends on how good your game is.”
Macaque looked over at the trio. “Hey, Red Son, a word.”
The boy seemed sheepish as he walked over, a sharp contrast to his usual confident demeanour. “Yes?”
“You break MK’s heart and I'll break all your bones,” Macaque snarled quietly.
“Okay so you're just coming out with it,” Wukong muttered.
“P-pardon?” Red Son stuttered, hair letting off embers.
“You aren't subtle. So you heard me. If you break his heart, I will break all your bones.”
Red Son swallowed thickly. “Y-yes sir.”
“Good.”
MK walked up beside them. “What're you guys talking about?”
“We were just saying goodbye,” Wukong supplied, somehow having come up with a good excuse for once in his long life.
“Oh cool. I'm sleeping around Red Son's tonight so won't be able to make it to training tomorrow, is that okay?” MK said.
Macaque subtly shot Red Son a glare while he replied to MK. “That's fine, see you in a few days kid.”
The warrior opened up a shadow underneath himself and the king.
“No, no, no, no, no, not the shadow portal!”
~•~
“Ugh, I think I'm gonna throw up,” Wukong complained as he dropped out of the shadow portal.
“Too bad, you fly your cloud recklessly and the shadows are quicker,” Macaque replied, dropping down beside him before opening up their shared bag of shopping purchases and grabbing out a handful of clothes. “I'm gonna get changed then I'm ordering actual food for dinner.”
“But my way is cheaper!”
“Yeah, and it'll have you hacking up furballs until your eventual death, Wukong,” Macaque snorted, shutting himself into the bathroom.
Wukong rooted around in the bag and grabbed out one of the plain shirts he'd picked out, slipping off his robes and putting on the black t-shirt before grabbing a pair of loose blue jeans out of the bag.
The king settled down on the sofa, aimlessly flicking through channels on his TV until his tail brushed against someone else.
Wukong lifted his head up, staring at Macaque.
The warrior practically had a halo of light around his head from the setting sun behind him, a sliver of yellow fabric visible under his dark hoodie.
“Hey. You up for burning off some energy?” Macaque proposed and Wukong was in his feet within seconds.
“We haven't fought in ages,” Wukong sceptically tested.
Macaque shrugged. “Nothing serious. But I need to stretch out my limbs and test how flexible I am in these clothes.”
Wukong dragged his eyes up and down Macaque. “Mhm, because ripped jeans are gonna be sooo easy to move around in. Prepare to be beat.”
Macaque smirked, sweeping out one leg and knocking Wukong off balance.
“H-hey! No fair!” Wukong growled, reaching up and tugging Macaque down with the edge of his hoodie.
The warrior let out a squeak, collapsing down beside the king before going still.
“Oh shit. Macaque? You good, bud?” Wukong questioned, moving closer.
Macaque spun around, hands catching Wukong's and pinning them against the floor. “I cannot believe you just fell for that.”
“Yeah, well, it's been years since you played that card while we've fought,” Wukong argued, one leg kicking out and into Macaque's stomach.
The warrior's grip on his hands loosened, allowing the king to flip the two of them over as he hovered over him.
His hands closed around Macaque's, mimicking the move just used on him.
“Not so cocky now, huh?” Wukong challenged.
Macaque just laughed and rolled his eyes, opening up a shadow portal underneath himself.
Wukong pulled back, watching as the other sank into the floor and disappeared before a weight crashed down on his back.
“Fuck! Macaque!”
“Got you now,” Macaque taunted, the two of them rolling back and forth until Macaque pinned Wukong down.
The warrior was just shy of sitting on him, chest heaving as he breathed.
Wukong sighed. “Yeah, alright Mac, you win, now get off of me.”
The shadow paused, golden eyes staring at him.
“What?” Wukong inquired.
“You haven't called me Mac since- since before,” Macaque stated, his grip on Wukong's hands loosening.
Orange and pink hues of light shone off of his dark fur.
It was beautiful.
He was beautiful.
“No, no I guess not,” Wukong murmured.
Macaque rolled onto the floor beside him, both of them staring up at the ceiling.
“So, if Red Son does break MK's heart we are absolutely going to ruin his life, right?” Macaque questioned.
Wukong rolled onto his side, staring at Macaque.
Tufts of dark hair stuck up in different directions, framing his face.
The king reached out with a hand before hesitating when the warrior flinched, eyes closing.
A long moment passed, before Macaque quickly got up, with a mumbled sentence. “I'm going to order dinner.”
“Yeah, okay,” Wukong responded, mentally kicking himself.
Of course Macaque still didn't trust him, why should he?
After everything Wukong had done, he had no reason to.
“Hey, Wukong, how many portions should I order you?” Macaque asked, one hand muffling the bottom of his phone.
“Three, if that's okay,” Wukong answered.
Macaque nodded before continuing to quietly speak to whoever was on the other end of the line.
Wukong walked back over to the sofa, sitting down and trying to avoid looking at his friend.
Huh.
When had he started thinking of Macaque as a friend again?
The other side of the sofa dipped as weight settled down on it.
“I'm sorry for flinching,” Macaque whispered. “Really going against my therapy goals.”
Wukong blinked before looking over at him. “You go to therapy?”
Macaque's tail wrapped across his chest, curling over his opposite shoulder. “Well, I'm trying. Kind of hard though when most therapists are mortal and I have issues with opening up about things from my past.”
The shadow let out a deep breath before slowly relaxing against the king's side. “Is… is this okay?”
“Yeah, no, of course,” Wukong flustered a bit, shifting so that Macaque would be more comfortable.
Wukong turned so his back was resting against the arm of the sofa, one arm circling around Macaque's waist.
The warrior tensed under his touch slightly before relaxing back against him, pillowing his head on the king's chest. “You sure you're okay with this?”
“Geez Mac, I'm fine,” Wukong responded. “Are we gonna start playing my game now or d'you want to wait until after dinner?”
“After dinner. I want to get some rest in,” Macaque sighed, opening up a shadow portal over the top half of his head. “I'll wake up when the food gets delivered, I'll hear it. You should get some rest too.”
“Yeah alright. You get some rest.”
“Thanks Wukong.”
“No problem bud.”
~•~
Macaque's ear flicked inside the portal as footsteps ran up to the door of his dojo.
“Hold on,” he murmured to Wukong, unsure whether his friend was even awake before sitting up and slipping his upper body through the shadow portal.
“Knock knock!” The delivery boy shouted as Macaque reached over to open the door.
MK grinned and held up the couple of bags in his arms. “Hey Macaque! This is more than you usually order.”
“Yeah, well, I've got company,” Macaque said evasively.
“Is it Monkey King?”
“Nah, I have other friends,” Macaque lied, reaching out with one hand for the bags. “Aren’t you meant to be staying around Red Son's?”
“Yeah, I'm headed there after this,” MK explained.
“Have a good sleepover, kid.”
“You too Macaque!”
“No, kid, I'm not having a-”
“Bye Macaque!”
The shadow sighed, shutting and locking his door before slipping back through the portal to Wukong's house.
The king was still passed out on the sofa, snoring at an obnoxious volume.
Or perhaps it was actually quiet, and Macaque's sensitive hearing was getting to him more than usual.
“Hey, wake up.”
Wukong blinked awake, sitting up before his mouth watered at the sight of the takeaway bags. “Oh yes.”
Macaque rolled his eyes but passed over the three portions Wukong had asked for. “You know, if you keep eating that many portions then you're going to get fat.”
Wukong let out an offended gasp before shovelling some of the noodles into his open mouth. “No I'm not.”
“You are,” Macaque replied, teasingly poking him on the stomach. “See? Round.”
“It's cushioning. For when I may somehow end up on the floor,” Wukong explained.
“Because I beat you up,” Macaque snickered, opening up his own meal while Wukong began to dig into his second.
“Shuddup.”
“Make me,” Macaque challenged, tail lashing behind him.
Wukong's golden gaze flitted across him before he went back to his meal.
“That's what I thought.”
After they'd finished their meal, Macaque let out a sigh. “Alright then, put on your crappy game.”
“It's not crappy!” Wukong protested, already digging through the piles of DVDs in front of his TV. “Alright, found it. Get ready for the best game you'll ever play.”
“I highly doubt it,” Macaque mumbled, nearly dropping the headset and controller thrown haphazardly in his general direction.
“What was that?”
“I said ‘I highly doubt it’,” Macaque deadpanned. “This won't be anywhere near as good as my game.”
“You have a game?” Wukong laughed, plopping back down on the sofa beside him. “Okay, that I have to play after you're done with this.”
Macaque let out a grumble but adjusted the headset before putting it on, slouching against Wukong's side as the game registered him in.
An avatar looking surprisingly like him loaded in on a dirt path, a chicken running out of a bush in front of him before glitching and dying.
“Wow. What a surprise, I was right, this game sucks,” Macaque huffed.
The king's tail flicked up to curl around the warrior's arm. “Aww, c'mon Mac, give it a chance at least.”
Macaque sighed but began to walk his character along the path, stopped only a second later as another character spawned in front of him.
“Welcome traveller, on your journey to the west!” The Monkey King greeted.
The background image switched so the character was pointing at himself. “As the Great Sage equal to Heaven, you couldn't ask for a better tutor.” The screen switched back to the first picture of him. “On your journey, you will learn to smite powerful enemies.”
God this was boring.
“After you complete the tutorials, you will learn how to access your hidden potential.”
Ugh, good, back to the overworld.
Now if he could just-
“Defeat each opponent to work your way up to the final boss, the Rhino King,” Monkey King said.
“Couldn't afford the rights for Demon Bull King?” Macaque joked, elbowing Wukong in the side.
“Nah, just seemed boring seeing as I already beat him.”
“Here are seventy two combos-”
Skip.
“Pay attention-”
Skip.
“Make many friends along the way,” Monkey King advised and Macaque tore off his headset.
“What the fuck is that background art?!” The shadow screamed.
The king grinned. “Flattering, right? You would not believe how quickly the game sold out.”
“That's atrocious!” Macaque shouted, hitting him on the head before putting the headset back on.
Yeah, no, he was skipping through all of this.
Eventually it let him go and unlock abilities.
“Hey, these are all passive,” Macaque pointed out.
“Just give it a moment,” Wukong instructed.
The monk on the screen sighed before it flicked to a different ability menu.
Macaque's eyes roved over the screen before he took off the headset.
“Really?”
“What?”
“A fucking muscle bro version of yourself in just pants taking up half the screen?” Macaque growled because it was very obvious why he was pissed.
Wukong smirked. “What? I think it's a good view.”
“Self obsessed asshole,” Macaque grumbled, trying to just focus on buying a couple of different attacks before giving up and handing the game controller and headset over to Wukong. “No, I can't do this, this is just something for you to admire yourself.”
“Fiiiiine,” Wukong groaned. “But I want to play your game now.”
Macaque opened up a shadow portal, sticking his arm in and rooting around. “Seriously though Wukong, are you trying to seduce the player or something?”
Wukong grinned slyly at him. “Are you saying I'm hot?”
Macaque's face screwed up. “...No.”
“That's it, the Six-eared Macaque thinks I'm hot!” Wukong shouted before getting up and racing to the entrance of his house and cupping his hands around his mouth. “The Six-eared Macaque thinks that Sun-Wukong, Great Sage equal to Heaven, is hot!”
“Shut up,” Macaque said, withdrawing his hand and tossing the game case to Wukong as he walked back over.
“It looks like it was made by a five year old mortal,” Wukong giggled but put the disc in anyway.
When the king settled back down on the sofa, the warrior stretched out, laying his upper body across his friend's lap.
“And what do you think you're doing?” Wukong questioned before slipping the headset on.
“Making myself comfy.”
“Yeah yeah, I'm gonna beat this game in minutes.”
A moment passed as the game loaded.
“Why does everything look like a crappy anime?” Wukong inquired.
“Fuck you.”
~•~
“This is the fourth time I've done this encounter and I still haven't beaten it!” Wukong whined, throwing the controller across the room.
“Aww, too hard for you?” Macaque teased, not even cracking open an eye.
“Pfft, n-no!” Wukong floundered, taking off the headset and putting it on the floor. “I'm just going to take a break.”
“Sure you are,” Macaque snorted, opening his eyes a sliver.
Wukong stared, stock still, not sure if Macaque had realised that the glamour over his eye was down.
The scar over that side of his face was still hidden, but mismatching gold and milk coloured eyes fixed a tired gaze on him.
“Staring is rude,” Macaque murmured.
Wukong blinked, looking away. “Yeah, sorry.”
Macaque sat up, stretching with a yawn, hoodie riding up his sides slightly and exposing the yellow shirt he had on underneath.
It was surprisingly nice to see Macaque in bright colours.
Wukong reached out a hand to skim over the dark fur that stuck up on one side of his head, smiling softly when Macaque didn't flinch away.
“Hey, are your ears okay?” Wukong suddenly asked.
Macaque turned to face him, eyes back to their glamoured gold again. “Huh?”
“Well we were at a pretty busy place for most of today so I was wondering whether it was hard on your ears.”
Macaque seemed to blush. “Oh, no, they're all okay.”
The king's hand dropped to skim closer to where another two pairs of ears had to be hidden on the warrior. “Can I see them again?”
Macaque's eyes went wide and Wukong quickly withdrew his hand. “I'm sorry, you don't have to-”
The glamours dropped.
Wukong couldn't help but stare at the hues of colour on Macaque's ears, having nearly forgotten them over the centuries.
But there they were again, still with such resplendent glory.
Moonlight shone through the window, catching the back of Macaque's face with rays of light that made him shine.
“Rude to stare,” Macaque repeated, seeming to curl in on himself slightly.
“You're beautiful,” Wukong murmured, trying to ingrain this in his memory.
Maybe then he would have something to keep when they eventually fought again.
And just like that the glamours were back up, hiding Macaque's appearance behind a facade.
“I- I should go,” Macaque stammered, standing up and conjuring a portal in the floor.
“No, Mac, wait, I'm sorry-”
Too late.
His warrior was gone again, leaving him alone again.
Wukong sighed and dropped his head against the back of the sofa. “Idiot.”

Do you have any ideas about the differences between Macaque and fem!Macaque? Like how MQ is more emotionally intelligent than her male counterpart but also more cold to Peaches, I think fem!Macaque looks like she’d be shyer and perhaps more emotional than pragmatic than male Macaque.
Also is it cool to just refer to her as Plum to differentiate between fem and male Macaque?
Yes! I'm still working some stuff out in my head, but here's what I got for now (also, of course you can refer to Fem!Macaque as Plum! That's what I was hoping would happen!):
- So first off, Plum is shier than Macaque... or at least comes off as it. What I mean, is that she's not so much shy as she is quiet upon first introductions. Plum is the type to observe first and then, depending on her first impression, act according to her opinion.
So for example, if after introductions she decides you're a good person, Plum will start to let her more playful side out. This is kind of a second test to see if the newbie really is good. Plum will test the newbie's patience as she messes/teases them; should the newbie remain kind, or even better, play along or laugh, Plum will start to give in. She let's her charisma bleed through with every new interaction with the newbie... her playing becomes more gentle, more touchy; instead of teasing, she's flirting. Plum really starts to open up.
Now if Plum decides that the newbie is a bad person... there are multiple paths she could take:
1. (Passive aggressive) Bully them out of the lives of her and MQ. She'll insult and poke at every little insecurity she can find on the newbie, using her silver tongue as a dagger. Along with that she will "play" with them. Plum will go through their belongings and scatter them about, destroying them, stealing them, etc (She'll even get her monkey friends in on it). Should the newbie continue to stick around, Plum will pull out the big guns and start working on mentally breaking them with her shadow magic: causing them nightmares, playing on their paranoia, creating scenarios to gaslight and decieve. Just anything she can do to rip them to bits mentally.
2. (Cordial) Silent treatment with splashes of sharp insults. Keeps to herself, but is always watching.
3. (Aggressive) Beware! Violent Monkey woman on the loose! Proceed with caution.
Plum is very good at discernment, with her analysis of a person being almost never wrong.
- Now, both Plum and Macaque are pretty straightforward... but there are differences in how they show it.
Plum is actually more physical while Macaque is more verbal. "Growing up", Plum has learned to rely more on touch to express her feelings rather than words due to the females in their troupe being more physically affectionate with one another. With it being almost a daily occurrence, the females would gather together to socialize and groom one another, or to help watch over/play with the group's young.
For Plum, words can't always properly express how she's feeling despite her skill with them, so she'll use cuddling, love bites, grooming, and other methods to show her affection for a person. If angry or hostile, she'll withdraw completely from a person, wanting no contact at all. It's very easy to tell how she feels about a person because of these habits, and to be honest, Macaque would probably have an easier time opening up if he did the same as Plum, but alas he is emotionally constipated to the max, so at this point it would probably break him if someone even tried to high-fived him.
- All in all, Macaque and Plum are pretty similar. The both of them are confident, intelligent, charming, and very frightening in battle. Both Macaque and Plum are some of the only people to make MK and MQ sweat in a fight, with their fighting style being very cutthroat and brutal. It almost makes up for the small gap in strength between the hero and his/her warrior friend.

If you don't mind me ranting a bit in your inbox, I have a few ideas on how he was able to die.
First is my favorite. Instead of dying like a normal person, he is trapped/consumed by his shadows. In S3E4, when LBD is showing Macaque's resurrection, it shows him being wrapped in his shadows. Also in the episode, when MK uses gold vision to look at Macaque, we can see arms and eyes inside and coming out the shadows. It's not unreasonable to assume that their alive. If their alive, why wouldn't they eat the host's corpse?
The next two come from the same idea, Macaque never ate a peach of immortality. So far in the show we have never seen Macaque eat single peach. Not in the past, and not in the present. We didn't even see him eat the popsicle.
If we assume he never ate the peach, the only immortality he has is the erasure of his name from the book of the dead. Even then that's not really an immortality. It just means Diyu doesn't have a right to you're soul. So his body dies but his soul can't go to Diyu. He's left bound to rotting body until LBD comes and find him.
The last option is that he was never immortal cause he never wanted to be, and Wukong respected. It probably drove Wukong crazy, but he didn't force him. So he just lived a long life. By time he and Wukong met again, his age was showing and Wukong still looked the same. Imagine Wukong with his babyface, and Macaque with crow's feet under his eyes.
OOOH interesting! i like the idea of Macaque being consumed by his powers. I love shadow magic having that depth to it. Like a win/lose situation. You get all this power, but the shadows could turn on you any moment.
That's true we've never seen Macaque eat a peach of any kind...and that stuff with Diyu could be true, but I'm not sure...if it's been explained fully in LMK canon how the Diyu works. Because there's different ways you could go about how the Book of the Dead operates.
In JTTW, it's kinda like...it was Wukong's time to die when he got dragged down there, so he erased his name so that he couldn't die from old age. If we add on the condition "plus it means the Diyu can't touch him" I like that idea but I don't know if that's how the Diyu operates in this canon.
Like we have this idea of invincibility/immortality because MK gets his invincibility sealed away, so that makes me think it's a separate part of his powers. So if we had more clarity to how the Diyu operates in this specific canon, that sounds entirely plausible to me.
But I like your idea that it means that Macaque's soul is trapped in the mortal realm. Would that directly link him to the "hungry ghosts/ghost realm?" That could be fun to play around with.
And the last option is interesting as well. I like the angst of Wukong having to watch Macaque age. I just wonder if Macaque would want that... He has so much self-preservation, would he really not mind dying from old age? shadowpeach both seem so afraid of death, but you could argue Macaque was "whatever" about it until he died himself 🤔
These are some fascinating theories, thank you for sharing them! Either way, something's not adding up. I'm glad others have thought about this and have their own thoughts!!

Shadowpeach for 1 and Sandy for 2?
Shadowpeach
When I started shipping it if I did: Probably when I first joined the fandom? I think I started shipping it pretty early on, and I watched the entire series with @skittlescripts within two days. I think I thought about it during the Macaque episode (and according to a pic i took, I watched it on Oct 7, 2022) and it probably got solidified in Shadow Play (which I watched either the same day or the next day) or during the s3 specials. So I've been shipping it fully since the second week of October 2022. Bet you weren't expecting an exact date lmao
My thoughts: I LOVE IT. I know a lot of people don't really ship it, and that's fine. It's not for everyone. But I've always loved their dynamic. ESPECIALLY with their history. Maybe that's just the angst writer in me tho
What makes me happy about them: Their bickering. Idk why, but I love the fics that have them going back and forth with no real heat in their insults. It's their love language <3
What makes me sad about them: Their history with each other. How both of them lost each others trust. How Macaque wants Wukong to hurt the way he does. How Wukong regrets what he did but doesn't know how to say it. They are both so extremely sad, and I love them for it.
Things done in fanfic that annoys me: Uhhhh I honestly have no idea? I've been thinking about it through the days and I just can't think of one. Maybe Macaque being purely bad? But I think that ties more into me liking soft mac and hating hurt no comfort. But idk.
Things I look for in fanfic: TEARS. FLUFF. FORGIVENESS. ANGST AND PAIN, BOTH PHYSICAL AND EMOTIONAL. Give me Wukong protecting Macaque without a second thought. Give me Macaque taking a hit for Wukong out of habit but not regretting it. Give me one or both of them going to MK for advice cuz they don't know how to handle their feelings. GIVE ME THE GAY MONKEYS BEING GROSSLY IN LOVE.
Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Macaque - Tang. Inkypages is very cute to me and I love it Wukong - uhhh... I don't really know, actually. I don't think I ship him with anyone else? Maybe Tang as well? I'm also chill with him and Tripitaka, but only sometimes.
My happily ever after for them: They finally talk things out and move on. Macaque moves back to FFM, they both don't use their glamours anymore (at the very least not around each other) and they just live the retired life they deserve. Getting fat off fruit till the end of forever 🥺
Who is the big spoon/little spoon: I think they switch from time to time. Wukong likes being big spoon though. And I hc that Wukong runs hot and Macaque runs cold, so Mac is def little spoon during winter.
What is their favorite non-sexual activity: Honestly, I can see them really liking just sun bathing in the grass together. Just them, the sunshine, and a slight breeze.
Sandy
How I feel about this character: I adore Sandy. I will protect him with my life. Sweet summer boy. Man? Sweet summer blue guy. I love him.
All the people I ship romantically with this character: Him and Hunstman are def my fav, but I also low-key ship Lunartides (him and Macaque) and Fishballnoodle (i think that's the name? Him, Pigsy, and Tang)
My non-romantic OTP for this character: The Sandwich trio of course. Him, Pigsy, and Tang all went to college together and I love them.
My unpopular opinion about this character: Uhhhh I'm not sure I have one? The only thing I can think of is that he's my last fav of the gang. Not least fav, just... if I could get merch of everyone in the gang, I'd probably end up getting his last. I DO love Sandy very very much, but I also like other character way more. (I feel like I'm committing a sin when I say that I'm sorry Sandy 😭
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: SHOW ME COLLEGE SANDY. I want to see his healing journey. I want to see him having a falling out with Tang and Pigsy. I want to see all the flashbacks!!
My OTP: SILKTEA SILKTEA SILKTEA. Huntsman is so down bad for this dude it's insane. I also think Sandly honestly didn't realize Huntsman's feelings for him at first. Idk why, but I feel like Huntsman kept trying to drop hints and Sandy was just like ":D You want more tea?" and Huntsman has to flat out say "No, I want YOU! >///<"
My cross over ship: Don't have one </3
A headcanon fact: I think there's one animal he's scared of. No idea what it is, but I feel like there is one single animal he will not go near. Probably something really obscure. Again, not a clue what it would be. But yeah. Oh, he also really likes scrap booking <3

i've noticed how there's been lots of family related content going on here 👀👀 so if you don't mind me keeping the train going, may i request a (separate) mayor, SWK, macaque, syntax and nezha with an s/o who is a single parent ?? and maybe s/o has a child that was shy and a bit awkward towards them at first meeting because s/o's kid didn't know what to feel knowing that their parent is dating someone, yet overtime after they hanged out more often, they slowly warm up to the boys and even started to admire, and like them where it's gotten to the point where the child was comfortable, and happy enough to be with them that they calls them 'dad' ??? 🥺
Anon I like the way you think 🤩
Also I may or may not have gotten ahead of myself and added MK and Redson because I'm still on a roll from the parent scenarios >:00
MK, SWK, Macaque, Nezha, Mayor, and Syntax x Single Parent!Reader (moreso platonically talking Abt their kid!)
MK
The best with kids! He finds it very easy to engage with you and your child :)
Also pretty protective of you and them. Not helicopter-level but still worries a substantial amount
He understands that the child may not like him at first, but he still tries! No matter what age they are, he finds a way to entertain them!
If the child is able and willing to be picked up, he does. Holds them in his arms, on his shoulder, piggyback rides—you name it
He also tries to take some stress off of you when he can. If you’re helping the child with some homework, he’s fine with tidying up a bit around the house
When the kid starts warming up to him, he has the time of his life as they talk to each other about their interests. He definitely passes along his favorite stories about Monkey King
Cries when the kid calls him “dad”. Like omg it’s like a waterfall ;-; he’s so happy
10/10 he’s super fun to be around and always has a treat for them
SWK
He’s very good with children, but he never pictured having one himself. Now that he’s with you he’s a little more open to connecting with them
No idea what to do at first. Probably freezes up but still tries to talk
You’ll have to nudge them both to start socializing
He begins by telling them simple stories from his life—nothing about the violence or bad parts of the journey, but probably others like how he became immortal
Allows the kid to gently play with his ears and tail. He wants them to lead, to size him up, bc he’s afraid of being too rough with them
When the child starts being more open with him he starts being more open too. He acts more like a dad during this time
Loves the little family dynamic he has with you now. He looks forward to seeing your kid, he looks forward to bonding with you both
Stims SO hard when the child refers to him as their dad. Like yes!! That’s him!!!!!
9/10 just because he would probably think in the mindset of “ok this is a baby monkey”
Macaque
He can tolerate kids. But he hasn’t had to worry about being around them a whole lot ever since leaving FFM. That being said, he is terrified of messing up
He treats them like they’re made of glass. You’ll have to encourage him a lot—he reminds himself that this isn’t just some stranger, it’s your child.
The one thing he masters very quickly is bedtime. He loves telling stories and playing with the shadows to help lull the child to sleep :)
Really good at helping you and the child with a daily routine. He’s 100% there to pick them up from school, he goes to the parent-teacher conferences with you, heck, he’s not half-bad at homework.
Once the two are closer, he offers up the idea of training them to do karate or some kind of martial arts. It’s a great bonding experience.
So patient with them. If the child ever shows signs of needing space or time to figure something out, he steps back. He makes it clear he is willing to help and then lets things play out.
Really good at pretend play. The best French waiter impression in the pretend restaurant :)
When he is referred to as “dad” he realizes he’s in for the long haul and is SO okay with it.
10/10 shows up in a shadow portal at their school to drop off their lunch
Nezha
Man’s is going into this knowing very little about modern kids. But like everything else he’s done, he’s gonna put all the effort he can into it.
Probably really formal about it? The kid is so confused and actually laughs at him a little
You have to give him tips here and there. Like, no, they don’t know complex arithmetic yet, don’t bond with them over a conversation about it?
He likes being active with them. Trips to the park, simple backyard games like tag or hide and seek—it’s honestly super nice and relaxing for him and he likes seeing them energetic and ready to chase him
He’s really intelligent about many subjects, so he’s probably the best out of all of them for homework or studying.
He picks them up from school using his fire wheels and the kid LOVES it
He reads those parenting books if he feels the need to or if he needs serious guidance, but more often than not he comes to you for advice
Acts like it’s no big deal that he gets called “dad” but on the inside he’s jumping for joy
9/10 the kid has to educate him on what My Little Pony is because he has no idea about modern media
Redson
So so so afraid of messing up. His childhood was rough in every sense of the word; with his powers having to be toned down by a whole lot and then his own father being sealed beneath a mountain with his mother left to raise him alone. He wants your kid to have a good childhood.
He’s very practical. He doesn’t imagine a whole lot and this leads to a lot of dead-end conversations with your kid.
Eventually he says “screw it” and not only reads a ton of parenting books but also decides to go along with any tangent or question the child presents him with
It’s entertaining to watch them try to figure each other out
More than anything Redson likes to try and cook meals for you all. He’s got fun-shaped pancakes down to a T.
Definitely hypes the kid up at school. Drops them off and picks them up in his coolest vehicles, puts their best grades and projects on the fridge
He likes having the kid meditate with him every once in a while, just to show them how to just be.
Like Nezha, acts very casually at being called dad. But he will cry as soon as the child is out of earshot
9/10 he “accidentally” teaches the child to refer to their classmates as peasants.
Mayor
He’s a busy man by default. But he’s learning to balance everything as he spends more time with you and eventually is introduced to your child
Before anything, he reads the books and consults anyone on his staff with kids. He talks to you as well. How should he talk to them? What do they like? Is there a certain food they enjoy?
Cool, calm, collected. Waits very patiently for the child to assess him and answers any questions they have.
He involves himself in their school stuff. Very attentive to the quality of teachers, how the child is doing in their classes. Second most useful in helping them with work(first being Nezha).
Takes the kid with him to work every once in a while to show them around. The most dad-like out of all of them. In appearance, in attitude, and of course in jokes.
After a particularly dumb pun, the child laughs and says “dad that’s so bad!” And this man FREEZES
Cries about it to you, is so happy to be accepted by your child and have you both in his life
10/10 he owns a #1 Dad mug now :)
Syntax
Listen I love a scientist spider as much as the next guy but I cannot see him liking kids. It’ll take a lot of effort on your part to get both him and your child to hang out with each other
He’s hesitant, he isn’t sure what kids even like, so he makes a peace offering of sorts. He shows them his software where he can code games and what not
It’s interesting to the kid so they end up talking with him about video games and science for a while
Slowly but surely they get along really well! Syntax really does try his best because it’s for you, and in the end he can’t honestly say he doesn’t love your child too
Very engaging when it comes to schoolwork, he finds it easy to explain things in a simpler or more entertaining way than the dumb directions do!
Before long he’s actually offering to take care of the kid while you’re busy or pick them up from school. It’s the highlight of his day when they hop in his car and show him the high score they got on a science project because he helped them!
(Takes them for ice cream after because OBVIOUSLY this is a very momentous occasion)
Shocked when they call him dad. He never thought he’d be deserving of that title, or even of that position, but he’s been doing it all along and he’s proud to call them his child as well as yours.
8/10 rough patches here and there but he’s got the effort!

Moonlit Musings
The night is such a perfect time to face one’s darkest truths. Shrouded in the moon’s light what can one do but admit to their flaws. It can be a time of rejuvenation and rebirth, only if you let it.
§~~~~§~~~~§~~~~§
It was a quiet night.
The full moon hung high in the heavens accompanied by millions of stars. Not a cloud to be seen, an ideal night for passions to run wild. Normally people would be taking out their telescopes or arranging romantic picnics.
Sadly, nights like these only filled Sun Wukong with dread. It was a night like this when he was finally able to return after the Journey. That was the night he learned he had lost a precious treasure.
When he returned, he expected to be greeted by his subjects until Macaque showed himself. He expected to be strangled as the pale furred monkie admonished him for his recklessness. He expected to watch as fury transformed into tearful joy as they embraced one another for the first time in over five hundred years.
But that wasn’t what happened.
The moment he set foot back onto Flower Fruit Mountain, he sensed something was very wrong. Like his previous return trips, his subjects greeted him with loud celebrations. The new mothers showed off their infants. The young ones wasted no time climbing all over him, taking in the scent of their king.
The immortal elders, however, looked concerned.
That was when he realized Macaque’s scent on the mountain was far too faint. Even the magical signature of his clones no longer felt fresh.
Macaque was nowhere to be found. The monkeys reported Macaque had returned a few years after he stopped by the mountain earlier in the Journey but not as his usual self. He didn’t respond to any of their questions. He didn’t even take time to check in on the infants. He didn’t say a word.
He just entered the mansion, but no one saw him leave.
Entering the mansion, Wukong dashed to their room desperate for answers. Opening the doors, he saw the room was horribly empty, sure all of his belonging were exactly as he remembered them, but all of Macaque’s stuff was gone. Macaque’s closet was empty and all his books had vanished. Despite his desperate hopes, there wasn’t any signs of a struggle or hidden messages to be found.
Macaque left of his own free will, but why?
He couldn’t bring himself to sleep in the bed they shared so many nights together. Every time he dared, he awoke expect to be greeted with the comforting warmth of familiar presence, instead he opened his eyes to a cold emptiness.
The lack of answers broke his heart, but he didn’t have time to start tearing the landscape apart trying to find him. Now that he was back for good, he had so many responsibilities to catch up on. He was determined to be a good king for his subjects and that meant ughthinking things through. Plus, he wanted to spend as much time with his master and brothers as possible.
Then there was the concerning fact all his previous allies had severed their alliance with him.
Apparently after all the fuss with the Demon Bull King, word had spread that Wukong broke their alliance by disrespecting protocol and attacking the royal family. Plus, his new position as a defender of humanity annoyed more than a few respectable demons. Combined with the sheer number of powerful demons he killed on the Journey cemented the idea that having an alliance with him would only end poorly.
He was banned from court meetings and the other kings in the surrounding areas wanted nothing to do with him. The chaotic nature of his past had finally caught up to him and in the worst possible way.
He was still recognized as the Monkey King of the Sun Court but was effectively blacklisted. No one wanted to mess with him, but they also didn’t want to interact with him. Not good for his mental health to say the least.
Simians are naturally social creatures. Wukong was used to constantly being around other people and learning new things. His time imprisoned was not kind. His first year of freedom had him constantly climbing over his brothers and master just to reassure himself that this was real.
And now that he couldn’t reconnect with old faces unless it was through a battle to the death…It forced him to delve into old memories. Memories that while sweet only made the emptiness more pronounced.
§~~~~§~~~~§~~~~§
Sun Wukong smiled as he watched Macaque’s reaction.
The six-eared monkie was furiously pinching the bridge between his eyebrows after he shattered a boulder with a careless headbutt as though it would make his life mercifully easier. “You’ll have to explain it to me again. What did you mean by ‘no longer under Yama’s jurisdiction’?”
“Exactly what I said. I was napping. Having some time to myself, when out of nowhere some idiots tried to take my soul to the afterlife.” Wukong explained as though having entities of death rip out your soul to drag it to the underworld was no big deal.
“Bet you weren’t happy.” Macaque couldn’t help but smirk at the flippant tone. He just made it so difficult to stay mad.
“Not in the slightest. I barged my way to the top brass, bunch of cowards called the Ten Kings (totally undeserved titles by the way) and demanded what the fuck was going on.” He was still ticked off even if the payoff was sweet. Seriously! Did immortality mean nothing to these cowards? They couldn’t even play it off as him dying in battle. He was in the peak of his youth! “Can you believe they tried to play it off as a misunderstanding? Should have smacked the loudmouth when I was there.”
“So, through a series of ridiculous events, you erased your name from the records of the dead.” Macaque could easily piece together the rest from there. No matter how ridiculous the odds. He learned never to bet against his friend when a problem could be handled with brute strength or intimidation. If it didn’t look like such an answer was possible, clearly, they hadn’t experienced the force of a determined Wukong. Something about facing a ticked off monkie of practically infinite strength and invulnerability left harden conquerors pissing themselves.
It was hilarious.
“Not just mine. In my infinite wisdom, I erased the names of several of the monkey inhabitants of esteemed Flower Fruit Mountain, including yours.” Wukong playfully booped Macaque’s nose.
Turning away to hide a light blush, Macaque scoffed to cover his embarrassing response. “Typical. I can’t leave you alone for five minutes without you doing something insane.”
“I know. I’m just that awesome.”
“So what? Are we now double immortal?” That was the question wasn’t it. Due to their master’s instructions, they were immortal and ageless, so what exactly would this give them? He didn’t feel any different. He couldn’t sense any new powers or changes in his instincts.
His counterpart, however, had other things on his mind. “Who cares. All I know is that those idiots have no control over our souls anymore.” And with that the King took his rightful place across Macaque’s lap as the other returned to his scrolls.
Wukong instead took the time to examine his friend, who finally gained enough confidence to fully drop his glamour and embrace his true appearance.
He still couldn’t believe Macaque actually had six ears. The weird part was how natural they looked, almost as if seeing him with only two was bizarre. The coolest part was how each pair softly glowed a different color. Blue. Purple. Red. Sometimes Wukong would just stare at them, imagining that he could see glittering stars emanating from that glow.
Suddenly those magnificent ears twitched. Macaque didn’t bother looking up from the bamboo scroll. “A trespasser...multiple, boar and vulture demon. Another hunting party”.
“Again. Ugh. Don’t these idiots ever give up!” Don’t get him wrong, Wukong loved a good fight. What better way to prove how superior you are to others than to steal what’s most precious to them? But even he was starting to grow bored with the sheer number of hunters that thought kidnapping his subjects was a quick cash grab.
After the fifth army he returned in pieces to the surrounding upstart lords, you’d think they’d take a hint.
Thankfully he wasn’t the only powerhouse on the mountain. “I haven’t tasted blood in a while. Why don’t I defend the kingdom while your highness enjoys a show?” Macaque set aside his reading material, eyes glittering with bloodlust.
Wukong returned the smirk with one of his own. “I’m always up for a good thrashing. One request: make it glorious.”
“Don’t I always.” Macaque joked as he retrieved his spear from his own shadow.
Wukong summoned his cloud and claimed a good vantage point. Once again, he marveled at his friend’s hearing. Judging by the distance it would have been at least three hours before he would have detected their presence.
Kicking back, he transformed some hair into a fruit platter and waited for the screams.
§~~~~§~~~~§~~~~§
To this day, Wukong knew Macaque was alive. Thanks to his efforts combined with the intense training, the monkie was double immortal. Besides, that monkkie was way too stubborn to die. He would survive purely on spite if he had to.
Macaque left, but why?
While he may have effectively isolated himself, that didn’t mean he didn’t hear about the other courts. A few centuries ago, he heard rumors about the formation of a new court by someone under the title of the Macaque King. Supposedly they were a powerful monkie who knew way more than he had the right to. For a brief moment, Wukong dared to hope it was his old friend, but it didn’t last. The few recounts he caught described him with black fur. Besides, he knew how much Macaque hated the title of King. Even when Wukong offered him the position as co-ruler of his kingdom, the pale monkie adamantly refused.
Still, he was curious.
For a few weeks he could have sworn he detected a familiar scent hiding underneath Mk’s. And he wasn’t the only one who noticed. A few of the immortal monkeys questioned him on the mango infused scent and what his plans were. It was almost too much to take in.
To think he returned to teach his student instead of showing his face. It hurt just to think about it. He chose to ignore the beckoning scent until it became impossible to ignore MK’s leap in progress. Then it just vanished like it hadn’t been testing his patience. Like it hadn’t brought him to the brink of shaking the kid upside down until he confessed where his old friend was hiding. The kid probably grew wise, or someone told him to change his bathing habits, and by the next training session it was all but gone.
Dragging his hand down his face, Wukong tried to reevaluate his thoughts.
Getting mad at the kid wasn’t going to solve anything. He knew he hadn’t been the most attentive master. Hell, the whole hammer exercise at its core was a desperate attempt to remove a painful reminder of better times. His master would be disappointed in how he was running away from his problems, but would encourage him to take the steps to be better. Zhu Bajie would be a sarcastic little shit, trying to get him riled up so the monkie would prove him wrong. Sha Wujing would sit him down and wouldn’t let him leave until they talked everything through.
He had to make things right with the kid. He deserved a better master. And this New Years he was gonna get one.
He spoke, praying the winds would carry his voice to his Warrior.
“Macaque. I know it’s been a while, but…I-I want to talk. I know you’re out there, somewhere I can’t reach. I miss sparring with you. I miss lazy days napping in the shade by your side. I miss defending the mountain as we held contests to see who could take out the most trespassers before their common sense kicked in. I miss you. Please come home.”
§~~~~§~~~~§~~~~§
The moon was high in the sky. Stars danced in the heavens as the faintest hints of vibrations pulsed through the concrete from the late-night dance clubs. MK lay awake, his mind struggling to make sense of it all.
Ever since Macaque disappeared in order to remain undetected, he kept thinking about his relationship with the Monkey King. Sure, he was being trained and he was definitely making progress. The monkie was still on his case for supposedly cheating on him with another mentor. Nothing MK said or did could make the monkie think otherwise. Thankfully, he was no longer shooting him suspicious glares, but the underlying tension remained.
The sad truth is they just weren’t that close.
He would have expected to learn more about the Monkey King on a personal and emotional level, but he just couldn’t get past that wall. Their training sessions felt more like just the Monkey King arranged just to get it over with. There was no passion at all.
Okay, perhaps that last bit was an exaggeration.
When you peered past the arrogance and pride, you found one socially awkward monkie. It was similar to Red Son the more he thought about it, both seemed to find it difficult to talk to or relate to others in a friendly setting. Sure, Monkey King projected a friendly demeanor and called him “bud”, but if he didn’t know any better he could have sworn the monkie was afraid to take that final step.
The last few sessions had taken a bit of a turn in a positive direction as Sandy would say. Maybe Monkey King decided it was time to make a change? Maybe this was all a trick so MK would lower his guard and reveal Macaque’s identity? Maybe he was just tired and should have conked out an hour ago?
Maybe.
Reality was so different from the legends. When Tang first introduced him to the Monkey stories, he was hooked. He loved listening to the tales of the infamous trickster that flipped off every major religious figure with unbridled confidence. Meeting the Great Sage in the flesh was like a dream come true until he was exposed to the King’s less pleasant tendencies.
Mk couldn’t help but wonder just how much confidence the Monkey King had in his training skills. Did he ever train someone before? Could MK talk to someone about this without appearing even more ungrateful than he already looked? Why didn’t he stop Red Son from unsealing his father when he was there? Why didn’t he simply seal the entire family when they were reunited? Why did the five times immortal sage decide that now he needed to train a disciple? Was Monkey King not telling him something important?
He had so many questions and not even the foggiest idea of where to start looking. Or perhaps he did?
The truth was he missed Macaque. The dark-furred monkie may have only taught him for a month, but the progress he made and the level of care he was exposed to made him feel as though he had finally unlocked the ability to fly.
He missed the regular grooming. He missed learning about the demon community. He missed learning new ways to mess with Red Son through appropriate court manners.
Watching the fire user freeze up at the term “honorable prince of the Iron Bull Court” just made him laugh, when his hair combusted it really matched his face. Now that he thought about it, were those horns starting to peek out of his forehead? And maybe the slightest hint of a tufted tail swiping the bottom of his coat? Seeing the demon frantically compose himself was a treat he didn’t know he needed. He still had the video saved as one of his favorites, didn’t hurt that Mei caught it at the perfect angle.
Oh yeah, he missed that.
With any luck, New Years would be the start of something better.
§~~~~§~~~~§~~~~§
On an island that remained surrounded by unquenchable storms, a single black-furred monkie sat cross-legged in a secluded part attached to the palace. All around him fruit trees and bushes bore a hefty bounty releasing an intoxicating scent of life.
Ears twitched.
Macaque opened his eyes, aroused from his meditation. It was odd. He had the faintest sensation that someone had been talking about him. Now that wasn’t exactly unusual, he made plenty of allies and enemies across the centuries. What was odd was that the voice sounded like someone he once cherished.
But that couldn’t be right.
The deceptive silence of his personal orchard gave him no answers. Not that he really expected it to.
For some reason he refused to identify, Macaque turned to the single peach tree in the grove. A tribute from his past and a reminder of his mistakes. But it was also a valuable resource once he learned the truth about the peach’s properties. He used its powers to protect many happy relationships, if only it could have helped him so long ago.
No matter.
He still had many projects to work on, including one successor just rife with insecurities. He honestly felt bad ducking out as he did. If things were different, he would have offered him a new life. His Stars were always happy to welcome a new member into their budding community.
As a bonus, his presence would have interrupted their constant attempts to set him up with new dates. He adored their efforts but being paired with partners who only wanted power or he would view only as friends was not something he enjoyed. Although watching them mentally destroy those they didn’t find suitable for him was quite entertaining.
Either way, New Years was coming up fast and he still needed to approve a few changes. His Stars were determined to make sure this event topped last years in every way possible, but they had to make sure they didn’t set the orchard on fire again. Or worse, they could launch the fireworks into the storm barrier. He wasn’t sure why or how, but the tornadoes and clouds turned different colors as explosions rang throughout the night.
It was beautiful but lost its charm after the third day.

Here’s chapter ten! I do believe this is the first chapter with absolutely no dialogue! I hope you enjoy it regardless!

Scattered Cicadas - Chapter Ten: Soft Shadows
Redemption is a hard process. Yet the cycles seem to make it easy for one particular demon.
----------
Redemption was a tricky thing. It required so many different events to happen in a certain order that it rarely occurred.
The first step was to commit some form of wrongdoing.
This was unfortunately the easiest part to do and most people never moved on to the next.
The second step was to realize and acknowledge your actions as wrong or harmful.
Many had justified their own actions over the course of existence and never saw themselves as doing wrong. Worse, many knew their behavior to be cruel and simply did not care or relished the feelings of power it gave them.
The final step was perhaps the most difficult to achieve.
One had to feel genuine remorse for their actions and wish to change.
Very few actually made it this far in the process as it usually required a catalyst of some sort. A personal revelation after going too far or someone laying your actions out clinically so you couldn’t justify them. Even a single act of unconditional kindness and trust could make someone wish to change.
Then came the truly hard part: actively changing your actions.
The path to redemption was not a short one. It took a lifetime of pursuit and dedicated work to not slip into the temptation of reverting back to who you were before.
Closing yourself off and pretending you didn’t care was easy, after all. What was difficult was being honest with yourself and allowing yourself to feel.
It helped if you had people around you to offer support and love. If it was from the same people who you had harmed originally, all the better.
But earning forgiveness wasn’t the goal of redemption. Some would refuse to give it, and you would have to live with that as it was their right to do so. It may hurt, but you had hurt them first and have no right to demand it even if you had changed.
Being redeemed wasn’t for the benefit of one’s victims. The hope was that you could grow into being a better person. It was for your own personal peace of mind. Whether others choose to accept that you’ve changed was not up to you, but you must continue onward regardless if you were to ever live with yourself.
Tang was intimately familiar with this process. The amount of cycles where he had been some sort of villain was not small.
The first three steps came easy to him. Feeling remorse for his wrongdoings and wishing to change were simple for one stuck jumping through time.
He could even spot a suitable catalyst for his potential ‘redemption’ fairly quickly. MK’s kindness and belief of the good in most people had certainly been useful on many occasions.
Having the whole process down to a science himself, Tang was even able to pull others into changing their ways sometimes. The Demon Bull family were commonly caught in his actions whenever he was a part of it.
(Having Red Son as a younger sibling had been interesting.)
What was bemusing to the scholar was that throughout the cycles there was one person who would constantly be redeemed, even without his meddling.
The Six Eared Macaque was an interesting puzzle.
He seemed to fit into the group that knew their actions were harmful, but did not care. Yet time and time again, he would become one of their allies.
Tang hadn’t known much about the demon early on in the cycles, but the knowledge about him came inevitably.
Macaque had been a “beloved friend” of Sun Wukong in the past. At some point, they had a falling out, Macaque seeing it as being left behind by Wukong.
The scholar had actually experienced part of that tension back in that cycle with the time traveling cactus.
So it seemed feelings of betrayal, jealousy, and abandonment were Macaque’s main motivations.
That last one was eerily similar to MK’s insecurities.
Macaque was very much like both Wukong and MK when Tang stopped to think about it. All three had repressed emotional trauma and coped with them in wildly unhealthy ways. Usually by pretending they weren’t there.
Macaque channeled those repressed emotions into schemes of revenge. He used lies and illusions to get what he wanted. He was condescending and sarcastic to his enemies, seemingly cruel and uncaring.
And it was all a facade.
At least, most of the time. There were a few cycles where Macaque was genuinely a despicable person who showed no remorse.
As much as he tried to hide it, Macaque was actually a very emotional being. It was quite easy for him to get attached to one or more of their group and slowly his cruel streak would fade.
Macaque’s catalyst for change was usually a person. It differed from cycle to cycle, but someone would show him some kindness or trust and before Tang knew it they would have another sarcastic immortal monkey as a part of the team.
MK was obviously the most common person to get the demon to change. Macaque was not lying when he called him a good kid. Having four father figures in those cycles seemed to be good for MK.
Wukong, while usually not the initial catalyst, tended to play a big part in Macaque’s redemption. Being old friends, they knew each other extremely well. While that tended to lead to a lot of arguments, it also led to them picking up where they had left off their previous relationship.
It didn’t really bother Tang that said relationships were often romantic in nature. Watching the two monkeys cuddle when they thought no one was looking was just too cute.
Mei was an interesting choice for Macaque to become attached to. He often ended up becoming her mentor, teaching her how to properly wield the Dragon Blade. Both of their sarcastic natures worked surprisingly well together.
The biggest surprise had been Pigsy.
That cycle, Macaque was basically under house arrest as ordered by Heaven. Pigsy, not wanting the manipulative demon to be anywhere near MK, forced him to stay at their apartment. It was some time later when Tang had woken late in the night to some loud noises and had left his room to complain.
Only to find Macaque pressing a kiss to Pigsy’s cheek before fleeing his room, pursued by a flustered and angry pig demon soon after.
It was strange, but Pigsy’s gruff and silent compassion meshed really well with Macaque’s easy going and nonchalant attitude. The scholar found their affection towards each other endearing.
Tang supposed it was only a matter of time before he himself acted as Macaque’s catalyst.
The cycle had started early, about a year before the original events. While working at the library, Tang had been approached by what he immediately recognized as Macaque in his human disguise. He had requested help on learning more about The Journey to the West for a school assignment. Tang, deciding to play along, offered himself up as an expert on the story and they began meeting weekly to go over it.
Macaque truly did not know the full events of the Journey in this cycle and seemed upset at several points, such as learning about the fillet used to inflict pain on Wukong. Over time, the pair began to meet up more often and discuss things other than the famous book.
He really should have expected falling in love.
Macaque was still sarcastic as ever, but never malicious. He made jokes and comparisons that had Tang’s side aching from how hard he laughed. He was quick to pick up Tang’s quirks and preferences, surprising him with his favorite foods or a nice new set of bookmarks.
He was still Macaque, but this softer side of him made Tang’s chest flutter.
As he lay in bed with his partner, (who had still yet to reveal himself to Tang, but he was patient), Tang couldn’t help but feel a new place in his heart open up for the shadow demon. He had already been considering adding Macaque into his family due to the many times he had joined them, and this just solidified that decision.
Oh Tang knew the cycles where he never changed would be painful. Watching as someone he loved went down a path of self destruction wasn’t easy. But he held onto the knowledge that there would always be the cycles where Macaque did become a part of their family.
As long as the possibility existed, there was hope that the same could happen in his own timeline.
If he ever got back that is.
Tang shoved that increasingly reoccurring thought away and closed his eyes, letting the soothing sounds of Macaque’s breathing lull him to sleep.
----------
A NEW CHALLENGER APPROACHES!
Macaque is the fandom’s darling bad boy, so of course I had to have a chapter discussing his many, MANY redemption’s over the many fics and AU’s.
In particular, (Teach Me to Be) Tougher Than Leather, Softer Than Silk by *checks notes* HOLY SHIT! I had no idea this was by @ninja-knox-ur-sox-off until just now! *ahem* Anyway it is an AMAZING fic with a practically never used pair and I highly recommend it.
Tang seems to have a type doesn’t he? Demons that seem emotionally distant, but are big softies at heart. It’s probably the purring that gets him. ;P Also does Tang/Macaque have a ship name? If not I'm dubbing it InkyPages.
Don’t worry Tang! I’m sure those intrusive thoughts will go away all on their own.
Important notice! I’m probably going to be putting this fic on the back burner for a bit because I really want to write about the cycle mentioned here. Not as part of Scattered Cicadas, but as its own thing. So keep an eye out for that!
Until next time!
