guys invited me over to meet some of their frens and they started talking about history. american 60s to be specific. They knew jack-shit, so I politely corrected some of their words while still trying to joke around. They didn't seem to mind and two guys even asked a few questions which led to us doing some light reading (I just whipped out the Wikipedia tbh) and it all seemed to be good fun. However one of them (the guy who initially started the topic) kept butting in with just straight up transphobia (we weren't talking about anything regarding gender or the lgbtq community) despite nobody talking to him anymore. None of them even reacted to the shit he has been saying but he like kept looking at them looking for reaction. Was a very pathetic sight. Are all history bros like this now? I am fucked cause the only way i can talk about my interests without getting dehumanized or interacting with nazis is to post on tumblr? well yea but it still sucks

Drag Diaries- on the freedom of expression of drag (it's a rant)

Today I watched a video titled "drag kings, explained by drag kings" (link here) and at one point, they say that drag kinging is less mainstream because people (namely toxic masculins) feel threatened by the fact that masculinity can be assumed and portrayed in its paradoxes just like femininity can.

I thought, hm interesting view, but surely a bit exaggerated in its views.

And then not even eight hours later I get a voice message from the local drag queen mother "suggesting" (trying to pressure) for me to shift my drag style more towards a clown performance, "because looking like a transvestite makes your performance look unprofessional and unpolished".

I still haven't performed publicly once.

I have only posted pictures on Instagram in preparation for the performance in a week.

Thank fuck I am in my thirties and stubborn enough to push back. Even ignoring the slur AND the blatant erasure of nonbinary and transmasc experience of finding gender euphoria in drag (and that can be a whole rant on its own), what she did is a shitty move, trying to mold someone you perceive as inexperienced just because they are at their first performance, as well as using the lure of her power (she is the one with the most connections for shows and parties in the area) to try and corral me in a nice nonthreatening little box.

As if I'm going to change a single thing on my performance, which has been thought out organically over the course of more than a month

Thankfully, drag is a pet project for me and I cherish it as a way to explore gender stereotypes as a nonbinary person, but I don't plan nor intend to make a living out of it. They won't book me if I present as non-clownish? I'll just go to parties in drag, as a customer. And I'll tip the performers, and cheer and have a grand time.

Or I'll go out of drag as a backup dancer to my queen and her band of misfits, who has just been happy for me when I told them I was performing solo as a king.

I am sorry to bring yet another example of shitty behavior in a community that should be the most welcoming and least-judgemental like that of drag...I promise I will share the positives too, I will tell more about my lovely band of misfits and the joy they bring me

And I'll tell you the joys of drag performance.

Because what that jerk didn't and doesn't realize, is that I am not just stubborn, but I thrive on spite.

Just tell me I can't do something and watch.
