another case of me ruining things with lore

CW/TW: ↓ detailed description of drug use, addiction, and withdrawal (I realize that I really should've been putting this earlier... my apologies)

SO, PROPER NAMES: they are called the Possessed.

They're a spiritual zebraman militia who chew this fungus, a bioluminescent, poisonous stimulant in order to stain the inside of their mouth with the bioluminescence and get a high from it. They believe that the glowing mouths of Debu is the source of their strength and power, and by chewing the fungus they get that power too, which is partially correct - chewing it, they don't need to sleep or eat, get visions or hallucinations, and are working at 200% capacity while on it, becoming "possessed" by the Debu spirit (which is often said to be the source of their sudden bursts of violence...).

However, unbeknownst to the zebramen, this has awful effects on their body, as you could imagine. The Possessed are given the Possesion fruit (they call it a fruit, they are incorrect,) constantly - so they barely sleep at all, barely eat at all, outright collapse from exhaustion or drop dead out of nowhere, have seizures, chew at their fingers (sometimes they break or chew them completely off), they become nauseous and can barely hold down what little food they do eat, and their hallucinations and psychosis often scare them and lead them to depression and paranoia over everything/everyone. And if they survive THAT until retirement, they're going to have withdrawals for the rest of their life

One big symptom though, is the rotting of their teeth! The fungus is acidic and chewing it constantly has eroded their teeth into falling out, which is bad, but is especially bad considering that the zebramen are constantly showing their teeth! They have lips and can close them, but by default they're smiling. The Possessed either hide their bottom faces with cloth or unnaturally close their lips shut.

I imagine statues or sculptures of the Possessed look a lot like sumerian devotive statues... huge eyes because they're held so wide during possession that their scleras are constantly visible, and tight lips.

More Labyrinth stuff! This is technically the third designed character but Anchor is giving me some design issues for her concept ref,,, I'll get there eventually

WARNINGS BEFORE YOU LOOK AT THE ART AND THEIR LORE Leech features the following design elements:

Eyes in unusual places [tail, inside of mouth]

Clusters of eyes [no more than three close together in each cluster]

Slightly warped bodyparts

Flower mouth [like that thing where the mouth is split four ways and it opens kinda like a flower]

'Listen, down here you lose your mind or you lose your body. Sometimes you lose both. It's better to make the choice before the Alterworld makes it for you.'

Leech, interestingly enough, has not been here as long as Anchor. Though you wouldn't be able to tell based on the corruption of their body and mind for that matter. Leech has no memory of who they were before the alterworld, and would not recognise their old face if shown a photo of it. After forgetting their name, they started calling themself Leech after their razorlike teeth and general facial traits.

Despite their patchy memory, Leech is still very intelligent. They even provably think faster than non-corrupted humans, with a much quicker reaction time and the thinking speed to accompany it. Leech can deliver several quick blows with their claws and a bone-crushing bite faster than almost anything can respond. At some point during corrupting, they became an obligate carnivore. They don't seem to care what source they get the meat from, as long as they eat.

Despite their antagonistic attitude and hunting behaviours, they are fully open to talking to anyone who still has the ability to. Because of this, coupled with their intelligence (and loneliness, but they'll never admit that), Leech makes a very loyal ally in the Alterworld.

"What the hell is this?" Villain spat. He kicked the body as though to say 'look. See what you did?' "are you trying to get me caught?"

Sidekick scowled like a child being chastised, and Villain resisted the urge to throttle him -- because really, he was a brilliant protege, but this ridiculous habit was going to catch up with them both someday.

"Not trying to get you caught." Sidekick mumbled without the faintest hint of regret.

"Then what was to be gained by this?"

The body laying between them was an issue in many ways; for one, all its teeth had been removed as well as the eyes. This wouldn't have been a problem usually, except that that was Villain's thing. You know. Removing the teeth. His trademark.

Sidekick clasped their hands in front of them, a proper gesture completely at odds with what he was just doing. "I..." and finally, he looked contrite. "I was trying to learn."

"Learn what? What is there to learn by throwing me under the bus?"

"I want to be better." Sidekick bit out suddenly. "better than I am. And I guess I thought...I thought, if I could understand what you feel, when you, y'know," He gestured to the poor sap on the ground, "I'd be able to...learn from you better.

Villain is speechless. Sidekick twists his fingers together. "Stupid of me. Sorry."

"It's all right." Villain said slowly. "It's...just...ask me next time, okay? I could...I could guide you through the process."

Sidekick's smile was bright as a switchblade.

been going back there frequently to get cavities filled and well, my 1 1/2 root canal lol

i got a bunch to fill and get some new crowns, and overall not excited but it'll be good to save my teeth and not be in pain when they decay to that point

long story on how this occurred but trapwire is giving me reassurance in the best way he can, he's a big bot but likes to pet, just let me chew at his claws and climb him
