Dora Richter

Dora Rudolfine Richter/Dora Rudolfa Richterová (1892-1966) was the first known person to undergo a complete surgical transition. Born to a poor farming family, she was immediately noted to be feminine in her actions and dressed as a girl. In 1916, she was encouraged to go to Magnus Hirschfeld's medical practice.

Officially living as a man (and arrested multiple times for dressing as a woman), she worked at the Hirschfeld Institute for Sexual Research, and over 9 years had multiple surgeries, including being the first transgender woman to undergo vaginoplasty.

In May 1933, students attacked the Hirschfeld Institute and all records were burned. Richter, like many others, was presumed dead, but had successfully escaped to Czechoslovakia, and later Bavaria. She lived until the age of 74, where she was remembered as a sweet old woman who fed the birds and let them nest in her handbag.

Studs and spikes started selling iron crosses under their ‘badges and pins’ section. Iron crosses were a German military award under the Nazi regime. (Though they have roots in the Prussian military and a modified version is the symbol of the modern German military, though they are no longer an award). 

Iron crosses were at some point adopted by bikers in the US for ‘shock value’ but in punk spaces, they are still heavily associated with white supremacy.

I think people should consider context when pointing at other people (specially artists) to call them neonazis. There are many neonazi symbols that depending of context may not be referring to any Nazi stuff. The number 12 for example, is in the list, but is also just a number?

I also think that social justice warriors should use their indignation and anger against people who have clearly stablished that they belong in discriminatory groups like neonazis instead of questioning random artists that dared to do art about a problematic subject but clearly would never accept or promote discriminatory acts. Attack the actual problem, not a confused dummy.

The group appears to be part of the "Blood Tribe" led by Christopher Pohlhaus, with footage showing them in red shirts and black masks.

Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club spoilers

DUDE IDK WHY I DIDNT REALIZE THIS BEFORE, BUT I FIGURED OUT WHY THEY CHANGED THE ENDING OF THE CABARET REVIVAL ON BROADWAY

Ok so the way the cabaret ending is traditionally done is everyone shows up on stage in the striped concentration camp uniforms. That’s what I was expecting when I saw it (which, by the way, oh my GOD I don’t think I’ve seen anything quite like this production of the show and I have no clue how it didn’t sweep the revival categories at the Tonys).

Except that is not what happened. Everyone instead joined the stage in brown jackets. They weren’t exactly the uniform of the brownshirts/SA, the Nazi paramilitary organization, but I’m sure it’s a reference. Those jackets also mimic the costume the emcee wears about halfway through the show when he starts to reflect the nazi takeover with the blonde wig and everything. So instead of putting them in prison uniforms, they put the characters in the clothing that the show (and the color of the jacket) most strongly associates with the Nazis. The message shifted from “your silence ended up killing you” to “your silence made you one of them”
