if bonnie had another actress, who would you pick?

no hate to kat graham, it's just always bugged me a little that a mixed actress is playing a fully black (abby and rudy) character

I don’t think of any other actress but Kat when I see Bonnie. Sorry, that’s just me.

I would even say NONE of the core group on TVD can be recast. Kat put in the work to make Bonnie (as did the other performers in their respective roles) who she was even with the added disadvantage of writers working against her. I believe she is truly irreplaceable. Also, the basis of this question is also inaccurate. Why do you think Abby is fully black? Don't let TVD's atrocious lighting trick you.

Abby probably isn't fully black anyway, since she's played by a biracial actress. We don't ever see Abby's father so why are you assuming she has a different genetic makeup than the actress? Persia is visibly MUCH lighter than Kat. Persia has even told the story of how she didn't even know she was black until adulthood and thought she was white her entire life. You have a problem with a biracial actress playing the child of a biracial woman? What is with the all the questioning of Kat/Bonnie's blackness? I can't tell if it's well intention inquiries or purposefully harmful ignorance.

I'm currently in the middle of watching The Vampire Diaries and I must say, as a self proclaimed Dean hater (well, not exactly "hater", but I AM critical of him), I have such a newfound appreciation for him after having to deal with Damon Salvatore for 6+ seasons lol. They're basically the same character, but Dean's dedication to his brother instead of a woman really sets him apart from your archetypical bad boys. I guess it makes sense that near the end of the show Ian and Paul had ditched the love triangle angle and insisted that the show was about "the brothers" (doubtful). They wanted some of that samdean juice lmao.

On that note, will you ever give the show a try? I saw some other anons asking you to liveblog, and I very much agree! I think it would be interesting to draw parallels between TVD and SPN (there are many, IMO).

Trying to imagine Dean Winchester who doesn't revolves around his darling little Sammy doesn't appeal to me for The Story. It's why I generally don't get annoyed by Dean other than when writers sometimes used "character shrilling" and "informed attributes" tropes instead of showing us said attributes about Dean.

Fraught sibling relationships are more interesting stories to me. When Prince Harry recounted William’s attempts to control and recast Harry into his own extension in Spare, it reminded me a lot of Ted Kaczynski and Dean Winchesters, both domineering older brothers demanding capitulation and submission from their younger brothers into their extensions and reflections.  The big difference is Dean’s actions were out of “love” (good thing Dean is fictional).

What I've know of TVD is what comes across my dash. By all accounts it looks like a show I could watch. Maybe one day. I’ve seen Ian in Lost, and Paul in Smallville and a tv movie about nephilians where he played the original Jack Kline whose angel father is also Lucifer.  I remember seeing Nina in the Van Diesel movie Return of Xander Cage and liked her character.

recently had my second dream about Elijah Mikaelson this summer -and I haven’t thought about TVD or The Originals in ages- and it totally spiraled into me rereading all my TVD fics. So now I am considering rewatching, already did a gender bend recast just for the fun of it and now ended up watching the saved tiktoks I have of him giggling like a maniac because „oh no he’s hot“

So yeah… I am one misstep away of writing Elijah fanfiction. Like that hyperfixation has been sleeping for four years but fuck me he’s still ridiculously my type. God damn it

Has anyone ever asked if you could recast TVD as a kdrama, who would you choose?

For Damon, can you cast two actors? One you think can elevate the character and one you think will play Damon as Ian plays it. But you do find many kdrama actors better than American actors so the latter might not be possible.

I was also going to ask for also a cdrama recast but idk if you’ve watched cdramas to the same extent as kdramas. Maybe Initium has opinions.

Honestly, any bad boy with a heart of gold or any villain in a teen/young adult drama could be Damon because they do the trope well and even if they don't, it's better than TVD.

I'll go with Kim Tae-Ri as Elena mostly because I like her and she can play a teenager well even at 30 and she's versatile enough and would imbue Elena with more personality than Nina

WDH could also very much be Stefan, he's versatile like that but the funniest thing is that a young LJS, like Pinocchio-era School 2013-era LJS would be a perfect Stefan, he does turmoil so well, I just could never get into him

Okay, so I thought about this, and I honestly wouldn't recast anyone? I think the cast was actually well cast, everyone had chemistry with who they were meant to, I believed their characters (talking about the main group), and it WORKED for me, it was the story that completely misused the cast. For the Mikaelsons I'd say more of the same, except I'd recast Joseph with someone with more gravitas. I don't have a specific actor in mind for that, but I think the gravitas is important lol.

Someone compared my gays to TVD characters and now I have heavy muse for Taylor and Stefan XD and and Elijah, and TVD Stephen XD and Kol and Klaus and Ruben and maybe I should do a recast version of Damon AUed not vampified XD more book oriented but AU to book too

I cannot imagine anyone but jomo playing Klaus he bodied that role so much it'll always be intertwined with him. but this seems like a fun game, if you could recast tvd who would you cast? (all hypothetically speaking no age restrictions for how old the actors all are currently)

Yeah JoMo is Klaus for me, and without a doubt his performance is what made Klaus such an interesting character, at least partially. And to be honest I wouldn't really recast anyone just because they have become their characters to me so distinctly, like even the supporting actors have become so "them" to me that I can't imagine anyone else in the role. I guess maybe I'd replace Nate Buzz with Daniel Sharman to begin with just because Nate is bananas? Same for Alice Evans, no clue who I'd replace her with though.

i feel like i talked about it before but i can't find it so i'm just gonna talk about it again. this is how i (tessa) would have done the gods + other adjacent creatures in tvd's third spin off aka welcome to: monsters and muses.

sirens. they were in tvd and they had a link to the saltzman twins. it would have been easy to link them to greek mythology too. and if i remember correctly, they had a link to arcadius, and it would have been easy to link them to the dark dimension (and to have malivore be part of that, if it needed to exist at all).

gods & demigods. okay so in s1, h cut off pothos' wings. pothos is an erote and an attendant and/or child of the goddess of love. l&h finding each other and losing each other again ad infinitum could have been punishment from the goddess of love because h dared to hurt her kid/attendant but i wouldn't have shown her, i think. at least, not until the final season where the gods make their actual appearances. also, i would have given them better names.

monsters & other creatures. they were already well on their way with using a dryad. i maintain that they should have used lampads and the lamiai too. and other creatures that weren't well known like the arae (see 'landon' for more) and they could have brought in achlys to really hammer the point of hope's sorrow home.

landon. landon either should have been a huma instead of a phoenix or he should have been the son of an arae (female spirits of curses, particularly of the curses placed by the dead upon those guilty of their death).

rafael. as awesome as i find the fact that he's the one true king, i also think it would have been cool had he been tied to lycaeon (who was the king of arcadia, which could have been a nod to arcadius and the sirens) or another mythological wolf. also, his first love cassie should have been an eidolon - which could have been discussed while she was briefly resurrected and they could have tied it to the whole doppleganger thing of previous installments too.

penelope. it would have been cool if they brought in odysseus (and maybe recast penelope and brought her back from belgium) and have them riff off each other.

who (and/or what) else? the amazons. also, their counterparts - the gargareans. the astomi would have been funny to see as well. they could have been antagonists in a more light hearted episode. had they not completely killed off that dragon girl in season one, they could have used the spartoi because they come from dragon's teeth. also, vrykolakas.

Finished two masterlists today, did some TVD recasts by accident, next up will be harry potter pt 2 and ATLA (with 1-2 recasts to figure out, here)

Didn't work on scene packs or edits so hopefully those will be done tomorrow, the urge to do the TVD masterlist hit me out of nowhere and I had to take advantage of the motivation while I had it

setting tomorrow's goals to finish the scene packs, answer asks (...and count what I've answered so far lol), and maybe name my B99 ocs

also I have been & still am working on Saera's pinterest but since that one isn't really quantifiable I also can't really cross it off rip

might save bingo for after the scene packs are done, unless major inspiration hits, we shall see!
