UDEH HARPS ON MALARIA PREVENTIONThe need to maintain environmental cleanliness and sleep inside the Long Lasting Insecticide Net (LLIN) to ward off mosquitos and avert malaria for virile man-power and healthy setting have once again been brought the front burner.The Principal Medical Officer for Health (PMOH) Ahiazu Mbaise LGA, Dr. Uche Udeh laid the emphasis while speaking on the significance of the World Malaria Day (WMD) observed yearly on April.He remarked that 2021 WMD theme: “Reaching the zero malaria target” was apt and applauded World Health Organisation (WHO) for celebrating the achievement of those countries that are on the verge to eliminate the disease, pointing out that such countries inspire all nations that are working to stamp out this deadly disease and improve the health and livelihoods of their populationsDr. Udeh also noted that the theme aimed at exploring and connecting malaria elimination and malaria in high-burden settings sought to unify and build on the slogan: 'Zero Malaria Starts with Me' movement and the 'Draw the Line Against Malaria' youth focused campaign.The medical practitioner underscored that the day aimed at taking urgent action in the control of the life-threatening deadly disease is celebrated to increase awareness about this disease, promote anti-malaria campaigns and ways to control and prevent it.He reiterated the essence to disposed disused cans and containers and not allow stagnant water within the surroundings as well as restrain from planting water bearing plants like cocoa yam, pineapple, etc. around the house to curb breeding of mosquito.Dr. Udeh stated that malaria disease is endemic in tropical Africa and that it is transmitted by the bites of infected anopheles female mosquito, the vector which spread the microorganism -protozoan plasmodium parasite via saliva, causing malaria sickness after 2-3 days of bite.The doctor who further described malaria as a mosquito-borne intermittent and remittent fever widespread to warmer regions, frowned against self-medication and advised those with symptoms of the sickness to go to nearest health centres or hospitals early for testing and treatment to forestall complications and preventable deaths.He maintained that malaria is the commonest disease in Nigeria and Africa but swiftly pointed out that it is preventable and treatable, reechoing that without mosquito, there is no malaria and that with early and proper medical treatment, there is no cause for alarm as treatment is accessible and affordable.To those who take drugs without medical prescription, the doctor admonished against damage to organs – liver, kidney, etc. and enjoined the public to ensure the drugs the take have National Agency for Food and Drug Administration (NAFDAC) approved number to avert had I known.He warned that all fevers are not signs/symptoms of malaria and reiterated the importance to put to stop the regrettable attitude of buying drugs mixed over the counter or from open markets in order not to harm the body system while advocating safety lifestyle, regular exercise and good dieting habits.

Tinubu's TVC Explains Sack Of 145 Staff. ++ The Board of Continental Broadcasting Services Ltd (CBS), owners of Television Continental (TVC), and Radio Continental, on Friday laid off 145 staff. A statement issued by the management of the media outfit said the decision was part of its effort to restructure the enterprises. According to the statement, the restructuring is geared towards repositioning the business for better and greater delivery of its services to its audiences and advertisers. The organisation explained that in line with the changes, it would reconfigure its workforce, as part of the rationale to achieve its objectives. + “A total of 145 people are affected by Friday’s announcement,’’ the statement said. “We wish to make clear that our core channels consisting of TVC News Nigeria, TVC Entertainment and Radio Continental, will now become the main focus of our business going forward, where we will deliver high quality news and entertainment programmes to our audiences and advertisers across Nigeria and beyond. “The winding down of #TVCNewsAfrica will allow us to concentrate on these key areas of our business,” it added. The statement explained that the CBS Board of Directors has also approved a substantial new investment in its staff across the group of companies which would enable it to substantially enhance its news and current affairs output on TVC News, entertainment programming on the market, TVC general entertainment channel and its key radio asset, Radio Continental. + “For those staff members affected by today’s announcement, the Board of CBS Ltd has approved a generous severance package, in addition to a programme of assistance to enable them seek new employment,’’ the statement said.
