Ainaki tää mikä o tapahtunu vaikka kenen suvussa, et sillo, ku suomalaisii lähti paljo Amerikkaa paremman eläm��n toivossa, ni yhest suvust (joka o siis yleensä joko kertojan omasta suvusta tai sit jonku kertojen tutun suvusta) läks kans isompi joukko Amerikkaan. Yhteyttä Suomeen jääneisiin sukulaisiin pidettiin tietysti kirjeitse, välillä lähetettiin jotain hienoja lahjojakin. No yhtenä päivänä sitte ne Suomeen jääneet sukulaiset sai Amerikkaan lähteneiltä paketillisen kahvia. Ja se olikin oikein poikkeuksellisen hyvää kahvia. Muutamaa kuukautta (ja kahvikupillista) myöhemmin Suomeen jääneet sai Amerikan sukulaisiltaan kirjeen, jonka olis pitäny saapua samaan aikaan kahvipaketin kanssa, mut jostain syystä se kirje oli viipyny reissulla pitempään. Siinä kirjeessä kerrottiin, että Amerikkaan lähteny isoäiti oli menehtynyt ja hän oli halunnu tulla haudatuksi Suomeen, ni he lähettivät isoäidin tuhkat sen kirjeen mukana. Eli se perhe olikin koko ajan juonut mummon tuhkista suodatettua "kahvia".
Ja ny kun oikein järjellä miettii tota tarinaa, mikä siis ihan oikeesti tapahtu yhen tutun suvussa, ni ilmeisesti Suomeen jääneillä ei toiminu näkö-, maku- tai tuntoaisti ku eivät erottaneet tuhkaa kahvinporoista...
Ja sit o tääl Suomes kans niit kirvesmurhaaja takapenkillä ja liftaaja katoo kesken matkan kyydistä, mummo kuivattaa kissansa mikrossa, jne...

Okay, we already know why Adrian has his name.
But what about Ronin? Why is he called that?
Cause, as far as I remember, and if you believe the Internet, this is, in most cases, either the tutul of a warrior, and by no means with a good meaning, or, in rare cases, a wanderer / free warrior (which suits him better, it seems to me)
Does this make sense in your story, or is it just a name?
Oh, I am so glad that you ask this and I’m so happy that someone pointed out the meaning of his name.
Ronin’s name I put a lot more care into it, he was actually always going to be named Ronin, in fact Adriaen was almost called Ronin, but I scrapped the idea and made the Ronin OC that we all see now. I also chose his name Ronin because as you mentioned it before, it means wanderer/warrior, etc and in the future chapters you will see that come into play.
He’s a free spirit, but as I’m sure you can see, he is skilled in fighting which indicates he must have fighting for a while in his life right? Like a warrior.
Anyway yeah, if I continue to yap about this, I’ll probably accidentally spoil something and that would be cowabummer.

hei satutko tietämään, mitä eroa on juurikangaspuilla ja vipukangaspuilla on? tuli mieleen kysyä ku en tiiä muita suomalaisii kudontaihmisiä, nään noita termejä aina välillä netissä enkä oikee ymmärrä mikä ero niillä on :'D
Hei! Mun täytyy myöntää etten ole koskaan kuullut juurikangaspuista vaikka moniin kangaspuutyyppeihin onkin päässyt tutustumaan.
Vipukangaspuut on Suomessa kaikkein yleisimmät. Nimi tulee kangaspuiden yläkehässä sijaitsevista vipusista, jotka sidotaan välittäjien kautta polkusiin ja jotka liikuttelee niisivarsia.
Tämä erona pyöräs/pyörökangaspuihin, joissa on vipusen tilalla pieni pyörä, jonka varassa niisivarsiin ja polkusiin sidotut nyörit pääsee liikkumaan.
Sitten on nää pirtakangaspuut (knitters loom) missä ei ole polkusia ollenkaan, vaan viriö avataan nostamalla ja laskemalla pirtaa käsin.
Pöytäkangaspuissa ei myöskään ole polkusia, mut näissä tyypillisesti niisivarsi nostetaan nuppia kääntämällä - mutta pöytäkangaspuilla saatetaan viitata mihin vaan pienikokoiseen polkusettomaan kangaspuuhun, riippumatta siitä millainen systeemi muodostaa viriön.
Ensimmäisiä kangaspuita pohjoismaissa on todennäköisesti olleet pystypuut, jossa yksinkertaiseen puukehikkoon ripustettiin loimi, joka pingotettiin painovoiman avulla sitomalla painot loimilankoihin.
Muualla maailmassa yleisempiä on olleet vyökangaspuut, jossa loimi pingotetaan kutojan avulla.
Puoliteollisissa ja teollisissa kangaspuissa on sitten Doppyt ja jacquardit, jotka kutoo reikäkorttien ja vastaavien systeemien avulla...

Deity Dagan
Originally a god of West Semitic speakers from the Levant, but worshipped widely throughout the Near East, including Mesopotamia.
Deity of grain, as well as its cultivation and storage. Indeed, the common word for "grain" in Ugaritic and Hebrew is dagan. According to one Sumerian tradition and to the much later Philo of Byblos, Dagan invented the plow. In the north, he was sometimes identified with Adad. Thus, he may have had some of the characteristics of a storm god. In one tradition his wife was Ishara, in another Salas, usually wife of Adad. Salas was originally a goddess of the Hurrians. Dagan also had netherworld connections. According to an Assyrian composition, he was a judge of the dead in the lower world, serving with Nergal and Misa-ru(m), the god of justice. A tradition going back at least to the fourth century BCE identified Dagan as a fish god, but it is almost certainly incorrect, presumably having been based upon a false etymology that interpreted the element "Dag" in Dagan as deriving from the Hebrew word dag "fish."
The earliest mentions of him come from texts that indicate that, in Early Dynastic times, Dagan was worshipped at Ebla. Dagan was taken into the Sumerian pantheon quite early as a minor god in the circle of Enlil at Nip-pur. Kings of the Old Akkadian peri-od, including Sargon and Narām-Sin, credited much of their success as conquerors to Dagan. Sargon recorded that he "prostrated (himself in prayer before Dagan in Tutul [sic]" (Oppen-heim, ANET: 268). At the same time, he gave to the god a large area of the country he had just conquered, including Mari, Ebla, and larmuti in western Syria. A number of letters from the Mari archives, dated mainly to the reign of Zimri-Lim, record that Dagãn was a source of divine revela-tion. The letters reported prophetic dreams, a number of which came from Dagan, conveyed by his prophets and ecstatics. In his law code, Hammu-rapi credits Dagan with helping him subdue settlements along the Euphrates.
The Assyrian king Samsi-Adad I commissioned a temple for him at Terqa, upstream from Mari, where funeral rites for the Mari Dynasty took place.
In the Old Babylonian period, kings of the Amorites erected temples for Dagan at Isin and Ur. In the Anzû(m) myth, Dagan was favorably coupled with Anu(m). At Ugarit Dagan was closely associated with, if not equated to, the supreme god El/I(u). Although he is mentioned in the mythic compositions of Ugarit as the father of the storm god Ba'lu/ Had(d)ad, Dagan plays only a very minor role. His popularity is indicated by his importance in offering and god lists, one of which places him third, after the two chief gods and before the active and powerful god Ba'lu/ Had(d)ad. Dagan is attested in Ugaritic theophoric names. In Ugaritic texts the god is often referred to as "Dagan of Tuttul." It might also be the case that one of the two major temples of the city of Ugarit was dedicated to him, and he might there have been identified with the chief god I(u) / El.
Festivals for Dagãn took place at Ter-ga and Tuttul, both of which were cult centers of the god. He was certainly worshipped at Ebla and also at Mari.
At Mari, in Old Babylonian times, he appears as fourth deity on a god list; that is, he was very important. He was venerated also at Emar. There a "Sacred Marriage" ritual between Dagan and the goddess Nin-kur was celebrated.
At the same city, a festival was held in honor of "Dagan-Lord-of-the-Cattle," at which the herds of cattle and prob. ably sheep were blessed.
According to the Hebrew Bible, Dagan was the national god of the Philistines. I Samuel:5-6 tells of the capture of the Ark of the Covenant by the Philistines. It was customary in the Ancient Near East for the conquerors to carry off the deity statues of the conquered to mark the surrender not only of the people, but also of their deities.
So the Philistines took the Ark, the symbol of the god of the Israelites, into the temple of Dagan at Ashdod. Since the Israelites had no statues of their deity, the much revered Ark was an obvious substitute. In this way, the Philistines marked the submission of the Israelite god to Dagan. However, on the next day, the people of Ashdod found the statue of Dagan lying face down in front of the Ark. The following day the same thing happened except that the head and hands of Dagan's statue lay broken on the temple threshold. This biblical account seems to be an etiology for a practice of the priests of the temple of Dagan at Ashdod, for it states that for this reason it is the custom of the priests of Dagan not to tread on the threshold as they enter the temple of Dagan. The best-known of the biblical stories that mention Dagan is in Judges 16, the tale of Samson and Delilah. After Delilah arranged for the Philistines of Gaza to capture Samson, they blinded him, shackled him, and made him a slave at a mill. During a festival to Dagan, the Philistines took Samson to be exhibited in Dagan's temple, where thou sands of Philistines had gathered for the celebrations. After praying to the Israelite god, the now long haired Samson got back his old strength. By pushing against two central pillars, he brought the temple crashing down on himself and on more Philistines than he had killed in his whole lifetime of killing Philistines.

The End of a Pain Begets Another: Musings on the Mesoamerican Calendar Translator, Maya Section
After some time, I found Prudence M. Rice's book (Maya Political Science: Time, Astronomy, and the Cosmos) contains a section entirely dedicated to the Short Count, by another name, the Waslason K'atun, or the "Cycle of the K'atun." Recall, if you will, that a K'atun is composed of 20 Tuno'ob, each 13 Winalo'ob, each 20 K'ino'ob/Days. Thus, a K'atun is approximately similar to 2 decades in the Gregorian calendar.
The table in Prudence's book helpfully exemplifies the "properties" of each K'atun name: if we begin counting in K'atun 13 Ajaw, the next will be 11 Ajaw, then 9 Ajaw, so on so forth until 1 Ajaw, at the end of which we continue with 12 Ajaw, then 10 Ajaw, 8 Ajaw, thusly until 2 Ajaw, which will be succeeded by 13 Ajaw once more. Such a cycle of 13 K'atuno'ob (the plural form of K'atun) is called a May.
The table, however, is also weird in its datings.

The story of Mayapan is set to the tune of prophecy and divine influence, set in their respective K'atuno'ob, with even some trademark cyclicality to the historical beats; the specific dates are provided by the Books of Chilam Balam, colonial-period recollections of the traditional knowledge of certain cities. Were we to count back from, say, K'atun 8 Ajaw (1185-1204; in LC notation, 1.10.18) when the Tutul Xiu overthrow the ruling Itzá dynasty, we'd find that K'atun 1.9.14 is a 4 Ajaw — but Rice (or, rather, Robert Sharer) posits it is one before, 6 Ajaw; conversely, 1.9.1 is posited as 6 Ajaw, but counting back instead gives us 4 Ajaw, again showing an offset of 1. This is a rather minor thing and may instead be intended to show the date in which a given K'atun ends, similarly to how gregorian decades are formally defined: the 2010s began in 2011, and their last year was 2020, while the two-hundredth-second decade began in 2021, etc etc.
So. We have a correlation!.. Kind of.

Traditionally, K'atuns are defined as being named according to their last day, some k'in ending in Ajaw, with a given number. You may try the MCT from a few posts ago, and you may find that such a correlation... does not exist. And I haven't yet quite the idea why. There is, however, the quirk that the nearest Ajaw date to the onset of a new K'atun miiight be the namer? Really depends on which K'atun you choose.
Because of the offset's seeming, uh, progressively accumulating offset, there is very likely something at play with the way leap years are accounted for. See, the other Mesoamerican calendaric systems we have implemented require, primordially, agricultural syncing, but also cross-round syncing. This is because of a little thing called the New Fire ceremony, which occurred every 52 years as the short round re-incided on the same days of the long round it had that many years earlier (for the Etetl, this may have been on a 1-Tekpatl, som specific day in the month of Panketsalistli, 2-Akatl year; still have to confirm this). So, because of the agricultural angle, there needed to be leap days (and, weirdly enough, we can trace one such "extra" day in Cortez' records of when he landed and when the Siege ended, and see a graphic representation of it in a codex), and the festive angle requires the short round "ignore" these extra days, for an offset between the rounds would begin to rear its head if it didn't.
But the Maya may not have had such a ceremony. Now, their long round is hypothesised to be also agricultural, and due to astronomical funnies it is likely their LR years also had a leap. Additionally, the Long Count does seem to have accounted for leaps, as dates basically line up perfectly between the Western calendars and Long Count, provided we convert from Julian to Proleptic Gregorian if needs be. So. We're left with the possibility that this specific short round did not need to correlate with the long round, but instead with the Long Count, and therefore with the derived Short Count.
I have yet to make tests to this hypothesis, but the lack of mentions of any convergence-specific importance between SR and LR may vaguely give support to it.

Also, bug report: the transition from the 28th to the 29th of January in the Maya LR is broken (there seems to be a theme here); instead of moving correctly in the month of Mol (12 to 13 or 13 to 14, depends if it's a leap year), it jumps directly to next year's Pop; this offset is "corrected" when reaching the transition from March to April, which correctly reflects as the actual year's 16 Sak'. I don't know why yet. This whole thing will be a hotfix + patch tba soon, but for now the Maya LR convertor will remain broken. Whoops.
Shouldn't take much time to fix it, just an adjustment to the Delta-values. Probably. But it's work and I can't do much of that rn. Nor for any particular reason, my vibe hasn't circled back to coding yet. I did add a thing to it to save your last converted date, or today if there wasn't any. Yay.
