Inducing the Aid of the Oak Tree Lord
I had to run some errands that took me a ways away from home today, and while I was there, I realized I was actually fairly close to a butte that I occasioanlly visit in order to propititate a great, hollow-bearing Oak Tree which grows there. Since I've done some potent and highly effective magic with the help of the Oak Tree Lord recently, I thought I would go to him again with another request. Specifically, my stores of Hollow Water have begun to run low, and I've been needing to replenish it. We had some very wet weather not long ago, which made me think I would be easily able to retrieve the water I needed from another tree hollow I've drawn from before, but following a sudden spell of hot and dry weather, I was chagrined to discover a hollow that was very wet, but not full enough to retrieve water from. I was worried I might have missed my chance to get more for a while, but given that the Oak Tree Lord helped me find the last source of Hollow Water I drew from, it seemed worth going to him again.
Being an unplanned visit, I didn't have any of the normal tools I would have with me for such an endeavor—such as a flask for collecting water, a lance for drawing blood, or anything on hand for me to offer the Oak Tree Lord—but a mage must frequently make do. In the end, I collected 13 Galls from other Oaks around the butte, each of which I painted with my blood (thanks to the help of a nearby Hawthorn copse) and then fed to the Oaken Mouth of the tree I came to propititate. I also gave a wreath that I wove from dandelion flowers.
Literally minutes later, I was overjoyed (and a little astonished) to stumble upon exactly what I was looking for. The natural font was deep and pungent, and what's more, the tree which bore it was an old Oak itself. I carried out the necessary ritual actions and gathered the water using my emptied water bottle (which I will be cleaning very thoroughly after this.)
What I gathered has since been transferred into an old glass vessel that I found once I was done, being sold for only $6 at a nearby junk shop I'd never noticed before. This should definitely last me a good while.
The Grove Elders—an assembly of tutelary tree deities possessing immense wisdom and power—are a truly amazing group of entities to work with.

this is extremely nitpicky and it doesn't matter but I just wanted to put it out there that people in Middle Earth would be far more likely to use either the Westron names or the names they have in their own languages to refer to the Valar (as opposed to the Quenya terms). And if they WERE to use an Elvish language they'd still be more likely to use Sindarin over Quenya (which was little more than a conversationally dead language by the late Third Age).
People (aside from the Noldor themselves) would be far more likely to call the Valar the Rodyn or Belain, or simply just "the powers" or "the gods" (if they were a human of non-Númenorean descent). There's no other canon term for Maiar (as far as I know), but the Sindarin term would still be preferred for them (whatever that is), or otherwise they'd just be called "the Beautiful" or even just "spirits". Valinor would be called Dor-Rodyn or just "the land of the powers/gods/rulers of the world" (or whatever term they have in their own language) and people would say Ardhon or just simply say "the World" over "Arda". Valar like Oromë and Varda would be MUCH better known as Araw and Elbereth (if not by the name in one's native language) rather than the names the Noldor gave them (Varda is already referred to as "Elbereth" in LOTR!)
I only say this just because I keep on reading fanfics where characters are casually throwing out Quenya terms to refer to these kind of things and it hurts me,, but it's very much a "he would NOT say that" sort of thing. It doesn't truly effect me at the end of the day
Edit: I want to clarify that I totally get that the need to make things understandable for the average reader is far more important than the frivolous semantics of constructed languages and fictional translation conventions. I'm not saying that people NEED or even SHOULD start using these names in their fics, I was just airing it out for people who DO care about this sort of thing (like me). But I don't think it's wrong to use the Quenya terms because that's what most people are familiar with (and I'll never snub someone's fic just because they do, even if it hurts the linguistic nerd inside my heart a little bit)
#not gonna lie. I was prompted to say this because I've read a handful of fics where Yavanna is the creator or tutelary of Hobbits#which I love#but Bilbo would NOT call her Yavanna 😭#if Hobbits for some reason didn't have their own term for her they would more likely than not call her Ivon or Ivann#which is her Sindarin name#and I'm not sure what they would call the Valar or Ainur as a whole but I'm of the opinion that they call them Fairies#which is actually semi-canon already!#bilbo also canonically calls Valinor “Evereve(n)” in his Song of Eärendil. so there's that#my post#text post#the hobbit#lotr#lord of the rings#silmarillion#the valar#middle earth#quenya#sindarin

Honestly? I've always theorized that tutelaries (protective spirits) simply don't go vengeful. Like, at all. It'd entirely subvert their obsession.
Not just that, but that crossroad demons are unable to spawn within a tutelary's territory. Sure, they could appear outside of said territory & walk in, but they couldn't be summoned & anytime someone attempts as such, it would instantly alert the resident tutelary & cause them to investigate who the eff was dumb enough to try & bring such a dangerous creature to their haunt.
Angels, specifically guardian angels, are considered the highest order of tutelary.
"Ghosts? If you want to know about ghosts, you should ask that Fenton kid." SuperPhantom?
Here you go, @lypten-tee! If anyone’s wondering, it’s a different vein than the one done for @sapphireswimming, even though both are SuperPhantom.
Ghosts:[FF | AO3] Sam and Dean had heard of Amity Park, but no one seemed to take it seriously. When they decide to swing by and check it out, they get a bit more than they bargained for.
“Ghosts? If you want to know about ghosts, you should ask that Fenton kid.” The blonde girl pointed to the corner of the restaurant (if you can call a place named the Nasty Burger a restaurant) where three other teenagers sat. “His parents are all over that kind of thing. He’s the loser in the white tee that looks like his hair has never seen a brush.”
“Uh, thanks.” Sam eased the lid of the laptop closed and smiled at the teenager. He wasn’t used to people reading the laptop screen over his shoulder, but most days, he and Dean could pick a booth that wasn’t as exposed as this one.
Still, he couldn’t afford to look a gift horse in the mouth. The information on this place was a mess. For all that Amity Park and even the neighbouring Elmerton seemed to be a hub of ghostly activity, it was difficult to find someone past the city limits who believed the stories that came out of either place. Most hunters had written it off as some kind of elaborate tourist trap, but Sam and Dean had been nearby, and, well, they hadn’t had much luck finding Cas, so they’d decided to swing by on their way back to Kansas.
Fifteen minutes in, they hadn’t seen a ghost, but they’d seen far more construction and property damage than was usual for a town this size. Dean had said they might as well get some grub while they waited and had picked this place because the name had amused him. Sam just hoped the food was edible.
“Foley’s Ghost Tours are a rip-off,” the girl added. “He’ll probably try to sell you on one, but it’s not worth your money. Ghosts don’t stick to routes like the tour has to, but you’ll be sure to see some if you hang around. It’s rare not to see Phantom fighting someone.”
“Phantom?” The name kept coming up, but never from what he’d consider a reliable resource. Practically nothing on Amity Park was coming from something he wasn’t convinced was made up by akid holed up in a bedroom or basement. He’d actually learned more useful information within ten seconds of talking to this girl than he had in ten minutes with only semi-reliable WiFi.
The girl smiled. “He’s definitely the best ghost hunter in this town, and cute, too, but don’t say that to Danny because his parents are ghost hunters and that’s probably a sore subject.” She turned her head as the door opened and then said, “Oh, that’s Paulina. I’ve gotta go.”
She ran off to meet her friend, and Dean came back to the table with a tray laden with food. “Got you a tofu burger,” he announced, tossing a package to Sam. “And a soy shake. So stop making that face at me. You can at least pretend to be a normal human male.”
“Choosing to eat healthy doesn’t make me abnormal, Dean.”
“Dude, this is America,” Dean said around a mouthful of hamburger. A bit of sauce dribbled down his chin, and he grabbed a napkin to wipe it off. “The only people who eat healthy are the ones who have to and the weirdoes.” He took another bite of his burger and moaned with pleasure, saying, “Man, this is good,” before he swallowed.
Sam decided now was not the time to rehash an old argument. “There’re some hunters in town who’ve gone domestic,” he said quietly. “The Fentons.”
Dean shook his head and took another bite. “Never heard of ‘em.”
“Sounds like they specialized in ghosts, which explains why they ended up here.”
“Or explains the ghosts.”
“Dean—”
“What? We can’t be the only ones who ever messed up big time. For all we know, these guys released all these ghosts like we released all those demons. Or sprang Lucifer. Or—”
The list was long, and Sam didn’t want to hear it again even if Dean wanted to make his point. “Dude, piercing the veil is not like opening a hell gate. And even if it were, they wouldn’t have needed to try something that crazy to deal with a few ghosts.”
Mercifully, Dean swallowed before opening his mouth this time. “Fine, so you think we, what, go ask these Fentons why they haven’t dealt with this town’s ghost problem? You don’t think they’re just trying to retire?”
Sam raised his eyebrows. “Really, Dean? How many retired hunters do you know who are just going to pretend they have no idea what’s going on when something like this is happening in their backyard?” Dean’s look was telling him, quite plainly, that Sam had tried to run from this lifestyle, but it’s not like he’d ever ignored a problem that was right under his nose. “At the very least, they would’ve called someone in. They must still have contacts.”
“And if they had talked to someone still in the business, people would’ve heard about it and not just ignored this place,” Dean finished. “So what’s your theory, Sammy? Elaborate hoax? Tourist trap? Or something we need to deal with before we hit the road?”
“I think we should at least touch base with the Fentons. Even if they’re out of the business—and I’m not sure they are; people around here seem to know them as ghost hunters—but even if they are, they’ll be able to fill us in on what we need to know, and if this is something that’s been too big for them to handle, I’m sure they won’t mind more help.”
Dean sucked on his milkshake for a moment before saying, “More help?”
Sam nodded toward the laptop. “Two names keep popping up,and one of the locals confirmed one for me. Phantom and the Red Huntress.”
Dean rolled his eyes. “These guys need to learn how to lay low. And what kind of ghost hunter picks the name Phantom?”
“That’s the thing. There are all kinds of reports of this Phantom fighting off ghosts, but from some of the descriptions….” Sam shrugged. “He sounds like he really is a phantom.”
To his credit, Dean caught on immediately. “You think this is like that situation with whatsername, the chick who was keeping the murderous kids in line.”
“Leticia Gore.”
“Yeah, her.” Dean returned to his burger. “So, what, we leave this Phantom alone till we torch everyone else?”
“It’s not going to be easy to find him when we don’t know his real name,” Sam pointed out, “so we can at least hold off on the research until we get the story from the Fentons. They might be able to provide us with everything.”
“If they could, they woulda done the salt ‘n’ burn themselves.” Dean swallowed and picked up a few fries. “Maybe that’s why they left this situation alone. Figured Phantom wouldn’t turn on them if he was kept busy keeping the other ghosts in line.” He shoved the fries into his mouth. “How long has this Phantom guy been active? You figure we’ve got time before he turns all vengeful spirit on us?”
“The oldest reports I’ve found so far date back to about a year and a half ago, but I haven’t even scratched the surface on this. It’ll take me a while to sort everything out.”
“Assuming the Fentons haven’t done all this already.” Dean took another drink, looked at Sam, who hadn’t touched his food yet, and said, “Aren’t you going to eat?”
Sam pointedly unwrapped the burger and took a bite, washing it down with his shake. The shake was good, but he’d definitely had better burgers. Even with the sauce, it tasted bland.
The token actions were enough to satisfy Dean, who continued, “So where do we find these guys?”
“We can talk to their—” Sam broke off, suddenly realizing that the trio who had been sitting in the corner was absent.
And then he heard the screaming.
Dean crammed the last of his burger into his mouth with acurse and got to his feet with a handful of napkins. Sam shoved the laptop back into his bag and slung that over his shoulder before following Dean out the door.
Almost immediately, he had to dive to one side as something that looked like a missile exploded when it hit the restaurant mere inches from where he’d been standing. Dean was crouched on the other side of the door, pulling dozens of little salt packets from his pockets and opening them. Every time there was another explosion, Sam saw his hand jerk as he fought the instinct to reach for his gun. A handgun full of silver bullets wasn’t going to help them fight a ghost, but ghosts weren’t supposed to have heavy artillery like this. Normal people didn’t have that kind of firepower just lying around where a ghost could manipulate it.
“What the hell, man?” Dean muttered, his eyes still searching the skies. “I thought we were dealing with ghosts.”
There was a bright flash of green light and a figure streaked across the sky, hitting the pavement with a sickening crack. But a few seconds later, the figure reappeared and flew—flew—up to meet a second figure, this one looking more like some kid’s idea of a flying robot than a ghost.
Sam blinked.
The smaller ghost bit off a retort Sam didn’t entirely understand—something about hunters and pelts—before burning through two nets with that same unearthly green energy shot at it by the first ghost. The figure flickered out of sight for a moment, but the robot one didn’t seem fazed by this and released another volley of missiles that turned to track the invisible flight of the first ghost.
And then the third figure showed up, clad in red and black and somehow managing to fly through the air on a jet sled. This one shot at the first two indiscriminately, firing bolts of pink energy from a variety ofblasters.
Sam glanced at Dean, who had stopped opening the salt packets in favour of gaping.
He knew how Dean felt.
What the hell wasgoing on here? These weren’t ghosts. It was more likely that Gabriel had somehow managed to escape death, happily letting everyone think he was dead so no one bothered him, and had set this up just to mess with anyone who tried tofind him.
The first ghost, the small one, dodged one of the pink blasts from what had to be the Red Huntress before shooting what looked like an iceray at the robot ghost. It wasn’t as quick and froze instantly, dropping until it was caught up in a beam of light from— Was that a thermos?
And then the robot ghost was gone, and the smaller one vanished from sight, and the hunter on the sled growled in frustration and took off.
In the silence, Dean pulled out the EMF meter and turned it on.
It squealed, every light shining red.
Dean met Sam’s eyes. “Let’s go find the Fentons,” he said, shutting off the EMF meter. “I want some answers.”

Nah, dude. That's all fair. You do you.
And, you're right. It does kinda make the ghosts seem stuck, but at the same time... they're ghosts...
I guess that I just feel like... ghosts have always been portrayed as being stuck in one way or another. Whether stuck on a passion they had in life. Stuck on unfinished business. Or routines that they had when alive. Or literally stuck in the moment that they died.
While not necessarily canon to DP, it is actual ghost lore for ghosts to have habits or routines that they repeat ad nauseum even if they no longer need to. That's part of the tragedy of their existence.
If you ever play the Blackwell series (which I absolutely recommend, fantastic games), you'll see that one way to actively get ghosts to move on to whatever's next is to break them from their stucked-ness & be willing to do something else or make peace with something that happened.
I've always seen the whole ghost thing as being people not being ready to move on for one reason or another & that Obsessions are partially a manifestation of this.
I also think that it can kinda be likened somewhat to an addiction in a way. In that, you choose the start drugs & you choose to continue them because they make you feel good. At the same time, it narrows your life down & makes you miserable, which just causes you to pursue more drugs to make you feel better.
And in order to stop, you have to get to a point where you realize that it's not good for you & that it's not making you happy to a point where you WANT to stop. Sometimes even then, some part of you wants to cling to that comforting habit because it's familiar & comforting. Which makes quitting difficult. Because, somewhere inside, you still like it. It takes some people a herculean effort to stop.
So, I guess that I just see the Obsessions thing as more of an opportunity for complexity than a true limiter.
In this way, I've always seen the whole ghost existence in DP to be a temporary stop while the ghosts finish what's keeping them ghosts. Like, the goal of being a ghost is to get to a point where you can move on to what's next, whether that be the End or reincarnation or whatever.
This would also naturally make it very difficult for ghosts to grow as people because they are innately stagnant individuals. Because the thing about being a ghost is that it isn't supposed to be fun.
I literally have an entire long post with a Ted Talk on my hc of the mechanics of the ghost zone & how ghosts work & how the GZ is basically Purgatory. So, this is something that I'm innately interested in.
But, again. It is entirely in your right to think this way. I just enjoy ghost lore & theory.
Like, the whole point of me giving Danny a protection Obsession is to link him to a category of ghost/spirit called a Tutelary, which is a literal spirit of protection or hero ghosts known for protecting people & areas. Specifically, I liken him to a Greco-Roman Lar Praestite which are a specific kind of Lar that protects cities & city-states. Which Danny does. I also tend to make him a Psychopomp, which are spirits that guide souls to the afterlife & a specific type of something I call a Gatekeeper Ghost.
Gatekeeper Ghosts being the spirits of people who died in the creation of portals to other planes that now guard said portals in death. Psychopomps specifically having died in the creation of portals to the afterlife & guard the boundary between life & death. So, like ghostly boarder patrol.
I find the whole thing unessecarily interesting! :D
Maybe kinda weird but there is One (1) thing i really dislike in the Danny Phantom fandom.
The Obsession Fanon.
Because I believe it takes away some very important characteristic from Danny.
If you make his so-called 'obsession' protection you take away something very important.
The fact that he choose to do it.
He choose to help people. He continues to choose it no matter what. He still helps the people who bully him.
Why? Because as he said in an episode. No one else will.
He is a good person and by just saying he has to because of an "obsession" I feel like you destroy that part of his character.
If you make his 'obsession' space you also take something away. As he mentioned he wanted to be an astronaut. By making it an obsession you take away this thing he loved. Because you end up 'forcing' him to love it because he has to to survive because of 'obsession'
Sure. The ghosts have a theme but they are more than that. Sure Ember has her music thing but she still dates and does other stuff. Youngblood plays games but he is a young kid.
What would you even give Johnny and Kitty? Love? With all the arguements they have?
I dont like the Obsession thing that Fanon seems to be convinced about is Canon and I will die on this hill.
And no. It isnt Canon. As far as I remember (and I watched the show three times but i may misremember some stuff) it was never truly mentioned as obsession. You have ghosts who have goals but the humans also have goals and you dont call that obsessions.
These ghosts are just bored out of their minds and decide to do ghost stuff and cause trouble because of that or to gain more power.
Ember doesnt sing because she wants to be a popstar. She straight up is a popstar because she gained more power from people knowing her name. (An example I know of the top of my head)
Just. Really dislike the fandoms obsession with Obsessions.
Okay that is all. 1am rant over.
