am i the only one who thinks the tumblr blackout thing thats been going around isnt a good idea. like if this is trying to copy the reddit protest then its not gonna work because reddit is completely different from tumblr. im bad at wording my thoughts but like reddit is basically user run so if a few hundred people decide to close their communities then half the site goes down. but tumblr doesnt work like that if a few hundred or even a few thousand people stop going on tumblr nothing is affected? so i dont understand how this is an effective protest strategy at all especially considering tumblr protests like this HAVE been done in the past and they always result in nothing. i dont see how this one is gonna be any different especially with how poorly organized it is. and im not saying you shouldnt try to protest at all just that you should come up with a different way of doing it
also its kinda weird to me that people are being careful to not interrupt pride month with this but have no issue with doing it during disability pride month and telling people to not post about it at all.. like do you think disability pride is less important so its ok to try to cancel it or something. because its certainly coming off that way

Tumblr: We don't collect your location information! Silly you. Stop looking for a way to turn it off because we simply don't do that!
Tumblr ads: Do YOU live in (small town I currently live in) then YOU need to go to (dealership five minutes away from me)
Tumblr ads: HEY YOU LIVING IN (my small town) DID YOU KNOW THERES JOBS IN (small town next to mine)

Is anyone else’s mobile app seriously on the fritz? I updated last night and now most of the time when I click on a blog/post/notification/tag, it tells me there are no posts.

I'm in fact hoarding edits, did I ever tell you? I have perhaps over 5000 edits that I've saved, maybe more on both insta and tiktok and I don't think it's all that joke-y and funny anymore... Tbh...

Huh. Spent like a half hour going thru some old posts to edit with a more consistent tag, got the green banner indicating the edit was successful, only for me to get bored with this task, go check my notifications, and then be bombarded with so many red "uh-oh! That didn't work!" banners that the app started glitching that I had to restart the app

It's because they want personal recommendations from people!! They want to see the food and hear what someone has to say about it! There are MANY things I would not use tiktok/instagram to search for, but searching for restaurants on those platforms might actually get you a better/more personal result than Google, and you don't need qualifications to say "I liked this restaurant".
There's also the added benefit that content creators legally have to label sponsored content, while it can be hard to navigate how Google pushes certain websites towards you and even modifies search queries.

[ID: A tweet by Popbase that reads, "Nearly half of Gen Z is using TikTok and Instagram as a search engine instead of Google, new data shows.". Below the tweet is a pic of a poorly drawn Goomba from Super Mario Bros with text below him that reads "are you out of your fucking mind".]

I deleted my tumblr app so haven’t really seen messages or other notifications, unless there’s something in a tag I check or blog I happen to be browsing. 🤦🏻‍♀️

^^^^ the official reason is to have "more space for badges" (????????) but also this
It's happened a few times already that I found posts on my dash from random people I did NOT remember following (once or twice could've been a mistake on my part but it's happened often enough to be noticeable). Removing icons is going to make it so much easier to slip random blogs on your dash
here's your fucking feedback @staff
list of problems the removal of icons causes:
i cant see my friends
ruins the sense of community
can't tell at a glance who's online right now and what they're interested in
literally cannot tell without scrolling back up who put a post on my dash if it has a single addition attached to it. or like. 2 paragraphs in the op.
i cant click my own icon at the top of the dash to quickly view my own blog
can't tell who someone used to be if they change their username
squashes the margins between the menu and posts, making the whole dash feel more cramped
ruins the quick visual cue of how long each post is and where it ends when you're trying to scroll past ones youve seen before
people put a lot of creativity and individuality into icons, and now i never see them
makes people who primarily reblog instead of make their own posts all but completely disappear
list of problems solved by removing icons:
?????
who the fuck was asking for this
ive never in my life seen a website or app that has profile pics forcibly HIDE them, so i guess you did it you made the dash unique again in the worst way
here's some more feedback: maybe when you run an a/b test you should, idk, actually have a feedback form people can fill out about it somewhere
