She was approximately 20 years old, and holding a baby Tony. He knew the photo, had seen it many times before. It was one that Stark Industries used to show that Tony had been a patron of the arts since before he could walk. It was usually captioned with “Maria and Anthony Stark attend a gala at the Met.” The photo featured a tired looking, yet smiling Maria, holding a squirming Tony, standing in front of Van Gogh’s The Starry Night. It wasn’t the photo. He’d seen the photo hundreds of times before. Thousands of times before. It was where he found the photo: in one of Stirling’s files on Sophie Devereaux. Someone, Stirling more than likely, had written “Maria Carbonell: Alias or real name?” across her picture. Tony took a deep breath, centering himself. He pulled up his parent's wedding photo, and ran both of them through a program to age them up. He knew it wouldn’t be exactly what they would have looked like had they lived, but it would be close enough. He used their wedding photo, so that he could notice and account for anything that was different as he aged them up to the ages they were when they died. The algorithm was more or less correct for them when they died, so he aged his mother up, five years at a time. 15 years after her “death”, he was staring at Sophie Devereaux. His mother was absolutely, positively, Sophie Devereaux. His mother… was still alive. And living in New Orleans, if the rumors about Leverage were true. Tony took another deep breath. He had a phone call to make.

Several thousand miles away, a man’s phone rang. He saw the number and smiled before he answered it. “I thought you’d never call,” he said, taking a seat. “It’s been far too long since we last saw each other… Really? …Hm… Interesting. …I like how you think. …I’ll pass along the message. What about that repeat of the Hamptons?”
