Tumblr media
for Nessus and pan to be in my 7th house i do attract those type of people. lustful, predatory men. but like in my actual relationships to.
furia is in my 4th house and i get really angry in the home, my mars is also there. narcissus is in my 4th house and and i have a narcissistic mother. my ancestors i work with seem to be very strong and aggressive to.
phaeton, dangerous behavior, accidents, and car crashes are prevalent in my dreams stuff like that and it's in my 12th house. also mania is there and spirituality, drugs, sleep/dreams, psychology could be where i have an unexpected hobby and passion others wouldn't.
icarus is another dangerous behavior, excessive risk. in my 5th house of parties, sex, creativity, entertainment etc. while deprez is there to that causes depression. as i read or write out celebrity chart analysis, everything puts together as lore, jhene aiko, jeffery dahmer, donald trump, etc. so as im writing mines out and its just mini asteroids, i love to see the depths, and art of my birth chart.
my lucifer is in the same house as my lilith the 3rd. also where my sun and venus is. and i do have really good mental manipulation skills, lying and using my words to scheme. but im only so aware because im not to much in my ego about it and never really liked to since a kid except when i needed to, but was always aware of that "power". nemesis is there and that is also my vengeful self. ate is also there in my 3rd house lol, rushing to conclusions, delusional. respond to perceived, or real threats. but these characters are very influnced in my school life also. im also a big trickster, love mind games, dark humor, etc.
tantalus in my 2nd house is frustrating. so as medusa in my 6th house of day to day activities & work environment. proserpina and persophone in my 10th and 2nd house is scary.

by the logic of usamerican zionists who say it's justified and even necessary to bomb arab countries and kill their elected leaders to "save the people/world" from oppressive governments and if civilians die, it's their own fault for being in proximity of terrorists and voting for terrorists
if trump (who they say wants to strip away all human rights and destroy the world, pretty serious) won, would it be justified to assassinate him by bombing an event with him present, even if it killed hundreds or thousands of civilians, because they deserve it for supporting him? would it even be justified to bomb ALL usamericans to death, since they allowed trump to win and didn't do anything?
isn't it the same? trump even incited a terrorist event on jan 6th. and if americans allowed him to win, if they didn't take up arms to defeat him, they're all guilty. by zionist logic, not mine. "if they disagree, why didn't they do anything to oppose [x]" yeah well why aren't you gunning down republicans then?
yet even when people fear-monger about trump and how important it is to vote for kamala because trump is the megahitler compared to kamala's hitler lite and would surely end human rights as they are, if he won, these people would do nothing. and they would certainly not say that armed resistance or militaristic invasion or bombing would be the solution
arguably usamerican politics have caused more harm than any other country in the world in the past 100 years, yet none of it would justify bombing their innocent civilians in their minds. american citizens are just victims too and how dare you suggest they could be culpable or that they should do more than vote for a different flavor of genocidal god king of their nation
it's just other countries, countries of brown and black peoples, that deserve it. they deserve the freedom-bringing missiles of the profit-seeking us military and their allies to save them from themselves <3 the united states are uniquely qualified to decide the fate of all other countries, to decide who deserves to live or die, who deserves their country torn apart and looted and drained of resources. after the us destabilized them and destroyed progressive governments and installed radicalized us-trained militants in charge to stop communism. because freedom and democracy

Kamala has already supported KOSA (Project 2025). She has told us she is going to continue to murder babies and families. She wants to turn Gaza into real estate for white supremacists. She invited right wing goons to speak at the DNC. The Biden admin just funded alt-right chuds in Venezuela to riot because Biden thinks the socialist cheated and thinks Venezuelan Trump won instead. As a queer, indigenous person, I know Kamala will be just as bad as Trump for my rights if not worse because she wants conservatives to vote for her. The Democratic party and AIPAC has ousted progressive dems in their primaries and replaced them with obedient right wing Dems. The Biden admin sends weapons to nazis in Ukraine who killed 14,000 Ukrainians who protested against the Right wing coup that Obama supported a decade ago. Obama is responsible for many innocent deaths (but y'all treat him like a celebrity saint). Obama and Hillary had Gaddafi killed. Libyan had it all. Obama ordered a drone strike on paramedics rescuing people from the wedding he just bombed (they call it the Obama two tap). Anyway, you can keep defending the Dems moving 3 clicks right because it's better than 10 clicks right with Republicans, and saying it's an evil system, but you're helping to enable it. If we get Trump, it's nobody's fault but the Dems. I actually thought Kamala would be better than Biden. I was wrong. I'm not gonna vote for anyone who is responsible for murdering children and selling the rights of marginalized people (including myself) to Republicans. You can say "Oh but she said 'trans rights'" all you want but this is my 4th election and Dems keep supporting transphobic dems and anti-abortion dems and they parade them around like the good guys. The marginalized people you claim to support are all screaming at you to not support these right wing Dems and join them on the left. You don't get to sell them out for your own comfort. Your rights aren't more important than mine and vice versa. We've been asking you to move left with us since at least Obama turned out to have lied about codifying Roe and decided bailing out his bank buddies was more important. But we're watching you move right. We will survive either way but the dems want you to use scare tactics because they want to be the ones at the wheel of the fascist machine. So if you don't like it then don't participate. Don't play their game. They both play for the same team. They want your consent for nuclear war against made up enemies. It's sick. Stop believing their lies and supporting them. Supporting Kamala is the same as supporting Trump. You're just voting for aesthetics. Lots of liberals have already lost their way anyway and say they'd rather be fascists than socialists. Human rights begin on the left and the dems have never been left of center. Ffs liberals pulled out of a pride fest because of Palestinian inclusion. Lots of them already are self admitted zionists. Do you want to belong to a political party that openly supports white Christian supremacy cosplaying as judaism to avoid criticism? The two party system is white supremacy and they are using a black woman to play identity politics with people who only see her as color and refuse to see that she's a tool to them. Anyway there's room at the leftist table. Or you can keep going to the right until you no longer remember what you stood for.
I'm not gonna lie, sending one big chunk of text with no space for me to breathe between paragraphs is tough for me to read, but I'm going to anyway, because I foresee I'm gonna get quite a few of these.
So I'm going to go through this one point at a time:
Support of KOSA: sadly true, but that's an easy thing to change minds on. Not like she's the only one in the senate who wants it passed on either side.
Continue to murder babies and families: I can't tell if you mean the border or Gaza, but in either case, Trump will do many times worse.
Gaza into WS real estate: no she doesn't. She's been more outspoken in favor of an end to the genocide than any other presidential candidate in modern history.
Invited right-wingers into the DNC: first, I don't think she personally invited them. Second, even if she did, she still needs to pull Trump supporters and marginally right-wing independents to vote for her. We want a better society for everyone, after all.
Venezuela: the "socialist" has a proven track record of human rights abuses, and other than that, I don't know enough about the country to speak further on the subject.
Just as bad for queer/indigenous as Trump because she wants the right to vote for her: seriously, this is just point 4 worded differently. The purpose of an election (in the US) is to make yourself palatable to as many people as possible so you can beat the massive core of voters each party has. Also, again, we're trying to make a better society for everyone, right?
Dems/AIPAC ousting progressives in primaries: sure, AIPAC has a large amount of money to outspend progressives, and even still, the only actual "ousting" I've heard of was Cory Bush.
Biden sending weapons to Nazis in Ukraine: ok look, I'm sick of leftists parroting Russian propaganda. The government of Russia is authoritarian and right-wing, Trump idolizes Putin, and Putin has allied himself with Kim Jong-Un, who Trump also loves. Also, a few far-right nationalist groups fighting to maintain their nation (alongside non-far-right troops) is to be expected. And respectfully, I don't care how Obama was involved, because that's irrelevant to Russia literally invading.
Obama having innocents killed: yeah, duh, he was a US president in the US Empire's Military Age. That doesn't mean anything, and Harris was never even part of his administration, so your point is just a complete non sequitur to begin with.
"Defending Dems moving 3 clicks right when it's better than 10 clicks with Repubs": would you rather have the 10 clicks? Like, actually. Democrats are already right-wing. Harris's policies would work to move the country left, actually.
"If we get Trump, it's nobody's fault but the dems": actually, no, it's the fault of people who try to persuade the minority of far-left democrats to not vote for the best possible option.
Dems keep supporting transphobic/anti-abortion dems: yeah, sure, I'll give you that one, because guess what? They're more easily convinced to vote in their trans constituents' best interests regardless. They're more likely to vote to maintain abortion rights because they're more likely to listen to those constituents.
Marginalized people screaming at me to join them on the left: I am on the left. Incredibly far left, in fact. I'm just not stupid enough to think that we have enough people to change things. Want me to vote third party? I think I'd rather go with the safer option for marginalized people and pick someone with any chance of beating Trump.
I'm a sellout: no, I'm really not. I just understand that the system is overwhelmingly rigged against the non-establishment picks.
Dems want to be at the wheel of the fascist machine: better the one who has a chance at turning it around than the one who'll turn up the throttle.
Don't like it, don't participate: this isn't like a boycott. If every left-winger decided not to participate, Trump would almost certainly win by default. We "play their game" because without the game's existence, Trump's devoted followers would have already had every minority expunged from the country.
They both play for the same team: they're not even playing the same game! Trump and his Republican lackeys want to eliminate the concept of voting entirely, wants to end freedoms for all minorities, and wants to establish theocracy. Democrats want to maintain the democratic system, establish more rights for minorities, and make life better for Americans. This is also my answer to "Supporting Kamala is the same as supporting Trump": it's just not true.
Lots of liberals are self-admitted Zionists: believing Jewish people have a right to the chunk of land the Jewish ethnoreligion originated from, in this world with borders, where they can be unequivocally safe from the historic oppression they have faced for the last several thousand years in... is a fairly common sentiment. That is Zionism. There is a difference between believing that, and believing that they should be the only ones living in that specific region that was inhabited when they got there, which is Kahanism. In order to figure out, in a way that makes as many people happy as possible with the outcome, what to do with Israel, we need someone at the helm of the US who is not Kahanist. Trump notably supports Kahanists. Harris, notably, does not. At least not publicly. Do you know how hard it is to keep a secret as a presidential nominee?
The two-party system is WS: YES! It is! But we're not going to beat it from the outside because, and this is important, they have the power to silence us if we get too loud, and they will absolutely use it. The US has the third largest military in the world by active personnel, at 1.3 million. Do you think we would be able to train enough people to beat that? Think we can afford enough fighter planes to defeat 4 of the top 5 air forces in the world? Until the answer to that is yes, I'm going to keep voting in US elections for the lesser of two evils, because I'd rather fight them, than the trigger-happier alternatives.
"You can keep going to the right until you no longer remember what you stood for": also known as "doing anything a different flavor of leftist doesn't like".
I'd like to end this with a series of open questions:
Did you know that, of the third-party candidates for president, only Jill Stein has any chance of winning enough states?
Did you know that she's only ever won Massachusetts?
Did you know that the Claudia de la Cruz can only win by write-in?
Did you know that Cornel West isn't even on enough ballots to win?
I've seen leftists calling for votes for all three.
Final question to everyone voting "third-party or not at all":
Which one of them will beat Harris in every state?
Have a good night, and stay whelmed.

Family breakfasts with Tommy have become somewhat of a routine.
He comes over on the days Maria leaves for her work early (which is more often than not), eats her granola and drinks Joel's coffee, and they talk about whatever they feel like, though Ellie loves asking him about his recent patrols. She kicks her feet up into Joel's lap and draws it out as long as she can before sprinting all the way to school, but it's worth it if it means just one more story.
Today, though, she's late. Really fucking late. It's not her fault she got a bit distracted by the new book Tommy had brought her last afternoon (it's about SPACE Joel, that trumps school and sleep by a mile), but now she had about five minutes to get out of the house and into the classroom. Ellie barrels down the stairs, bag slung over her shoulder, and has to catch herself on the banister to not slip on the floor once she jumps over the last few steps
"Careful, baby," Joel calls over, worriedly watching her put on her shoes while standing on one leg, jumping to keep her balance. Tommy, on the other hand, looks majorly amused, and she can hear him chuckle.
"Yeah, yeah, old man, I can keep my balance just fine."
She ties her laces so she doesn't trip once she starts running and is about to leave when Joel whistles to call her back.
"Breakfast, Ellie."
Fucking Joel and his stupid rules, but Ellie spins on the spot and uses the kitchen door frame to propel herself toward the counter and pick up two apples for later, stuffing them into her bag with a happy? thrown over her shoulder.
"Mh, have a nice day at school, kiddo," he tries to sound all parental, but she can hear the softness bleeding through and just knows he's holding back a grin. Ellie crosses the distance between them with two big steps and slings her arms around his neck, allowing herself the luxury of melting against him for a few precious seconds when he gently rubs his thumbs over her wrists and lifts her clasped hands to press a kiss to her knuckles.
With a heavy sigh and a silent fuck you to whoever invented math, she pulls back, but not without pressing a kiss to Joel's cheek, basking in the smile he gives her; it's so easy to make him happy, and she does it as much as she can.
Ellie can feel Tommy's eyes on them, he always watches them with a gleeful mixture of amusement and affection, and over the last year, he has settled into the warm parts of her heart, too. He is right between her and the door, sipping on his coffee, so, really, it's not even a conscious choice, more of a reflex.
Her hand comes down on the table when she steps toward the front door and away from Joel, balancing herself so she can lean around the back of his chair and press a quick kiss to his cheek, too. Ellie bites back the small laugh bubbling up when she sees the expression on his face, mouth slightly open, eyes seeking help from Joel, who simply shrugs and picks up his cup again.
Another minute ticks by on the kitchen clock, and she is finally on her way out, the goodbye she yells at them cut off when the front door slams close behind her.
-
("What the hell was that?"
"She is laying her claim on you."
"Whatever that means, Joel, she's your kid, not mine."
"Better get ready to give up your personal space and half your closet."
"My clothes, really?"
"You never know what she might do next, prepare for the worst."
"Are you sure she's not yours? 'Cause this sounds oddly familiar."
"Oh, she is, she just found me all on her own."
"Glad she did, haven't seen you smile like that in twenty years."
"Give it a week and I'll tell you the same thing.")

About Me:
Hi! You can call me Batsheva (not my real name it's actually my cat's name lol). You can already tell from my username that I'm Jewish and a teen. I am a minor, so don't be creepy. I am Ashkenazi (Ukrainian), on both sides and I am also Irish, Italian, and Cypriot. My pronouns are They/He, I am Genderfluid, and a grayromantic/sexual lesbian. I was born "female" but sorta reject that whole concept so idk. I'm also American. My other account (one much more wholesome but also very much less Jewish) is @jewishbiancadiangelo. My blog where I tell you to finish your babka is @i-am-literally-ur-bubbie.
I support the rights of all groups, and I support abortion rights.
Jewish people are not white, and it is an ethnicity.
Trump wants to eliminate my rights, please vote against him.
FAQ:
Are you a Zionist? Yes, it means thinking that Israel should exist. I hate bibi, want peace with Palestinians, and want to bring them home now. If you think Zionism is hating Palestinians, you are thinking of Khanisim. You sound like you're saying all feminists are TERFs.
You're Jewish right? Are you rich/controlling the world/killing gentiles? No! That's antisemitic. I am completely fine with non-Jews (both my grandfathers are goyim), I am not very rich (my parents are doctors but they spent too much money on medical school and a mortgage so we don't have that much), and while I would love to control the world that isn't happening right now.
Wow! You're Jewish, exist as an AFAB queer person, you must be dealing with sexism and queerphobia in the Jewish community! Nope, I'm completely fine. My family is feminist and queer-friendly, thank you very much. While I am sure that sexism and queerphobia exist in some groups, they do not exist in mine.
Don't you know that Semitic means being native to the levant? Why are you using that word if it includes other groups? Because it's not my fault the word has been historically used to describe hatred against Jews. I use it because most people know what I mean when I use it.
Here is my other post about me:
This is my post about whiteness:
Reminder: The JVP is not Jewish!
Oh btw I'm also autistic but I don't normally post about that so I didn't include it before.

Dr. Anthony Fauci voluntarily testified before a House committee and debunked MAGA Republican conspiracy theories regarding the COVID-19 pandemic.
While Donald Trump and his lickspittles were telling Americans to drink bleach, take useless malaria pills, stick ultraviolet lights up their butts, and eat horse paste, Dr. Fauci headed an effort to develop vaccines for COVID-19.
A reminder to people with short memories who view the Trump administration as some sort of bucolic paradise: The last quarter of that administration included the worst government response to an infectious disease outbreak since 1920. Trumpsters who want us to ignore Trump's horribly botched response to the pandemic are like cruise-liner enthusiasts who want us to ignore the last 2% of the voyage of the Titanic.
Economic activity ground to a halt in 2020 as the US slid into a recession. I took this picture of a sign at a dollar store which had been completely closed for almost two months.
Tumblr media
The whole Trump clan was disdainful of the sacrifices hundreds of millions of Americans were making.
Why has the U.S. COVID-19 response been so bad? Jared Kushner, Vanity Fair suggests.
At Times Square Jared and Ivanka's contemptuousness was made into an ad before Election Day.
Tumblr media
If you are looking for the Original Sin of Trump's pandemic response, it was on January 22nd when he basically told CNBC's Joe Kernen that COVID-19 was nothing to worry about.
Tumblr media
Of course it wasn't "just fine".
Trump did not declare a state of emergency for seven weeks. That gave the virus plenty of time for it to spread throughout the US.
Republicans know that their Dear Leader totally mishandled the pandemic response. That's why they repeatedly try to make Dr. Fauci a type of scapegoat for Trump's horrendous incompetence. Dr. Fauci has spent his entire career fighting disease. Donald Trump has spent his entire career narcissistically promoting himself.
Harry Truman had a sign on his desk saying: "The Buck Stops Here!" If Trump had a sign on his Oval Office desk (which he seldom used except for photo ops) it would be: "It's Everybody's Fault But Mine!"
Don't be hesitant to remind people of how awful 2020 was. And point the finger of blame at the orange blob who was responsible for the catastrophe.

Hate crimes and discrimination would become acceptable under Donald Trump. As a black woman, my life and my future is at stake in this election. I’m pretty light skinned, but my mom? She’s not. I fear for her life and mine. Remember Matthew Shepherd? His brutal murder wouldn’t even be considered a hate crime under Trump’s policies. We must also save Palestine. And I believe Kamala will do that.
But even if you don’t believe her. Please understand what Trump will do to all minorities in this country. Under Trump’s policies women can be raped and forced to carry their rapists children. Under his policies, Women can be discriminated against in the workplace if their passion, education, and training leans towards a male dominated field. Divorce rights for women will be restricted immensely which will force thousands of women to stay with their abusers because not all victims of domestic violence have enough evidence to get a divorce if a no fault divorce is off the table. Even if they do, they can be killed while they are trying to prove they were abused. Police brutality against blacks people will escalate. I could go on and on and on. But just as lives are at stake in Palestine, lives are at stake here. Please, vote blue. Even if you don’t love Kamala, please vote to save the lives of your mothers, sisters, and daughters. Vote to save the life of your friends and family who are not white. Vote to save the lives of your friends and family who are part of the LGBTQ community. All of us knows someone who falls into one of these categories. Or you might be that someone yourself.

I'm trying so hard to keep my faith....
But I don't understand how any of this is God's will.
I want both of us to be safe. All of us to be safe.
a friend of mine who is also a pastor and an overall wonderful person said this last night:
if man acted by God's will all the time, we'd still be in the Garden of Eden
i don't believe Trump's win was God's will. it's the fault of misguided humans.

Writing Patterns
I was tagged by some amazing moots and writers: @steddieas-shegoes, @shares-a-vest, @eriquin, @hbyrde36, @klausinamarink, @frankenstein-ate-my-left-shoe, @runninriot and @thefreakandthehair Thank you for the tag and even more so for sharing your gift and providing me so much delicious food 💜💜💜
Rules: List the first line of your last 10 (posted) fics and see if there’s a pattern!
Given that the last 29 fics I wrote were all for @steddielovemonth I decided to pick my favorite 5 of these and the 5 fics I posted before that.
safe & sound Steve’s life was completely turned upside down (theoretically he sees the humor in this, but in practice the trauma trumps the pun) six months and six days ago when he came face-to-face with a honest-to-God inter-dimensional monster and barely survived to not tell the tale thanks to an airtight and frankly scary NDA.
that ultra-kind of love (you never walk away from) Steve’s hands start to shake as he lifts Eddie’s shirt over his head, and when he fumbles with Eddie’s belt, they shake so badly that he can barely get it unbuckled. Dear Steve Dear Steve, Hi Stevie, Apparently, it’s not good to “bottle up” your feelings.
Butterfly Effect “Mm, where you goin’?”
Safe Haven He runs for his life, his paws hitting the snowy ground with heavy thumps.
Love from the other side "Steve, we've got a major crash on the Interstate. Multiple vehicles involved. You're on triage duty. Patients will be arriving in five minutes,” Robin, the head nurse in the ER, tells him in a calm voice.
Ahoy Sailor! Eddie is used to life not working out the way he wants it to. In fact, he's come to expect it to.
Mine Steve never really cared about how he treated his possessions.
So Much (For) Stardust Eddie's living his dream, literally.
Hole-In-The-Wall It's all Dustin's fault.
I tend to write more Steve POV but it has gotten better. When I first started to write steddie, I felt like I couldn't write Eddie at all. Now, I feel myself drawn to his POV more and more often. Other than that, I rarely start with dialogue?
I feel like most of you did this but tagging a few beloved friends and moots I think haven't done this yet (no pressure, you know the drill): @starryeyedjanai, @henderdads, @puppy-steve, @acasualcrossfade, @steddielations, @just-my-latest-hyperfixation and @steveseddie

Maybe Kamala should have vowed to end the genocide. What's so hard to understand that people didn't want to vote for democratic Hitler? Yes, I know Trump will be bad for Palestine too! I know he'll be worse for the world altogether. But liberals should have stood in solidarity with Palestine and put much more pressure on the party to stop committing crimes against humanity. It's about time we stop turning a blind eye to the atrocities our government commits overseas. But I see that as long as our rights are protected, you guys are okay with our country destroying the rest of the world. What was your plan if Kamala won? To stay in your privileged bubble and let Palestine burn at the hands of "the lesser of two evils"?
Yes she should have stood up for Palestine. I did not like how she acted about it. Now do you know what Trump fucking says about Palestine? One of the two candidates was going to win, whether you voted or not. And your choice to be a single issue voter is fucking stupid enough when literally having another election ever again is at stake - however that aside, not getting behind the less bad one, for the VERY issue you care so much about, and being like “Ope, Democrats’ fault!” When Trump “levels it” and “turns the Gaza Strip into beach front property” is actually YOUR fault, not mine.
Get this flaming hot garbage out of my fucking inbox.

STXRSLUT RULES AND BOUNDARIES ୨୧
following these is basic respect, failure to follow them could result in you being blocked
DNI if you are : a minor, racist, sexist, pro life (anti abortion), transphobic, trump supporter, homophobic, intending to spread hate
requesting rules
do not send requests that do not conform to my boundaries.
do not spam requests, unless tumblr has told you there was an error, it has probably delivered. If you’re under you can ask, but spamming is not the way to do that.
do not pressure me to answer your requests, I do this for fun and I am not mandated to write anything, I will write what inspires me.
sending overly long requests that do not leave me room to add anything will likely mean I don’t write anything on it. I love to hear these ideas and I’m happy to receive them, but if I can’t add anything I won’t be trying to.
do not send extremely vague requests ie “character x reader on a date” this quite literally doesn’t give me any specification to what you want and I won’t be able to do your request any justice.

Tara Reade, Christine Blassey Ford, and the bleak limitations of pettiness feminism
Tumblr media
For what it’s worth, I found the accusations made by Tara Reade and Christine Blassey Ford both imminently plausible. I’ve never met Joe Biden or Brett Kavanaugh, but I’ve spent more than enough time around entitled white collar pricks to realize that things like non-consensual workplace groping and wacky frat house sex pranks are a part of their worlds. There was nothing about either story that struck me as obviously false or otherwise disqualifying. Both very well may have happened.
But I also believe that there’s a wide chasm between plausibility and proof–especially in criminal matters, and extra especially in regards to the sort of accusations that could result in yearslong jail sentences. Sexual assault cases are notoriously hard to prosecute in their immediacy. If we’re talking about something that happened years or decades earlier, there’s no reasonable way to prove the accusations in a manner that would warrant a formal, judicial response.
By 2020, this belief of mine was considered hopelessly out of date, borderline sacrilegious. The Trump era ushered in a new diligence in regards to how the public was supposed to understand and react to accusations of sexual misconduct: women should be believed, full stop. Accused men should be punished, full stop. The crisis of the moment meant that all the old notions regarding due process and the fixed standards of what is or is not a crime had to be thrown out.
Remember that “Shitty Media Men” list from 2017? God, seems like forever ago. The list was a wholly anonymous Google Docs spreadsheet containing the names of several dozen men in media and a brief description of their alleged crimes. It was written about in glowing terms by publications big and small, heralded as a bold and exciting new chapter of social justice, and the list’s creator–Moria Donegan–was eventually granted status as a star commentator.
Did you read the list? I did. About one in every 15 or so entries contained a very severe accusation–something along the lines of “he raped me in the dumpster behind Arby’s” or “he keeps tricking me into getting stuck in a dryer.” But the vast, vast majority of entries alleged nothing more than minor interpersonal conflict: “he doesn’t respect my work,” “he raised his voice at me one time in 2012,” and other stuff along those lines. One entry really stuck out: the accuser admitted that she had never met the man. “But,” she said, “he must be a creep… just look at the stuff he writes!”
No doubt, at least some of these men were/are grade-A jerks. But the bulk of them appear to have just been disliked by a colleague or acquaintance who felt the need to take advantage of a social justice movement to exact revenge. This is how human interaction works. No one is beloved by everybody; everyone will experience some instances in which they treat others with less courtesy than they probably should; and, well, sometimes two people who are otherwise completely decent despise one another for reasons that are inscrutable to everyone but God.
The malignancy of the Shitty Media Men list is that it caused readers to conceptually associate minor interpersonal conflicts–some of which admittedly did not happen, most others of the sort that would cause no reasonable person to find one party entirely at fault, let alone worthy of expulsion from polite society–with major violations such as rape and assault. This was the new era: every accusation is proof of guilt, and all guilt is of the same severity. It’s too hard to definitively prove that a rape happened, ergo we needed to dismiss the usual evidentiary standards of criminal proceedings in regards to rape. And, also, mildly upsetting a female colleague is now the same thing as rape.
Wonderful stuff. Fantastic stuff.
A year passed. The Notorious RBG ascended to the great rap battle in the sky, and it was up to the dastard President Drumpf to appoint her successor. He settled upon a youth-pastor-cum-jurist who resembled a crude caricature from a late 1800’s anti-Irish political comic. The man had a rap sheet a mile long: lackey to Ken Starr (himself quite the defender of rape), Yalie, anti-abortion, corporate puppet, helped rig the Florida vote in 2000, Federalist Society member, blah blah blah all the horrible shit you expect from a GOP nominee to the Supreme Court.
None of these facts mattered much within the liberal imaginary, however, as they weren’t that far afield from the activities of the sort of justices liberals find inoffensive. No, the #Resistance had an ace up their sleeve: a lady said he had sexually assaulted her 30 years prior, and she was willing to say so in front of congress.
He must have been toast after that, right? Because everyone had spent the last few years hashtagging #BelieveWomen, right? They’re not gonna say they believe women and not believe them, right? It can’t be that this precedent we just set up would only be used to ruin the lives of low-level middle manager type guys who did inconsequential stuff, right? Right?
No. Of course not. Republicans never even pretended to care about that shit.
In the non-conservative press, Blassey Ford was treated as a hero. Her effort was brave, and her failure served to validate the premise upon which it was founded: women are not believed enough, and men can get away with anything.
Another few years passed. Due to a confluence of events of that ranged between skullduggery and outright rigging, the Democratic presidential primary narrowed down to a less-corrupt-than-average politician who was called a “socialist” because he was to the left of Grover Norquist, and a credit card lobbyist who was once accidentally appointed vice president.
The credit card lobbyist should have been considered especially ignominious, considering the degree to which the #BelieveWomen mantra was prevalent on the left. Decades earlier, in a situation quite similar to that faced by Blassey Ford, he led the charge in aggressively dismissing the accusations of a woman who had accused a SCOTUS nominee of sexual misconduct. Surely that was the sort of thing MeToo would not abide, right? Right?
Again, no. The semi-socialist was repeatedly smeared as a racist and sexist for reasons that no one could ever quite articulate. Social media figures openly solicited false allegations of sexual misconduct against him. In spite of being a leftist Jewish man, in spite studies showing that his supporters were actually far less aggressive and hateful than those of Hillary Clinton, he was still the most toxic and evil presence to ever enter into Democrat politics. #BelieveWomen and #MeToo precedents were very effectively invoked: there doesn’t need to be proof, and there doesn’t need even be an accusation. He’s evil because we say he’s evil. His name is on the spreadsheet.
But the guy who got Clarence Thomas onto the Supreme Court? That was regrettable, sure. But it was a youthful transgression! He’s apologized! It doesn’t matter.
Then we got a late-primary curveball: a woman who verifiably worked with Biden claimed he had jammed his hand down her pants. The allegation was decades old and therefore unprovable in a legal sense, and suddenly that was an issue where it hadn’t been just a few months before. The MeToo movement’s purveyors worked to clarify that she was a lying, mentally unstable, and possibly Russian slut.
A year earlier, we were told that due process was a misogynist construct, and that expressing skepticism toward politically opportune allegations was an expression of patriarchy and privilege. Now, faced with allegations that would force them to choose between a semi-leftist or Donald Trump, the progressive vanguard suddenly decided that these old principles of Enlightened Liberalism weren’t so evil after all.
Blassey Ford is about to embark on a book tour, receiving near-unanimous praise (and ample financial compensation) for her bravery. She might not be a household name, but among those who do remember her, she is revered as a hero.
Reade, meanwhile, is a permanent disgrace who had to defect to Russia.
In a sad way, the disparity between how these two women were treated demonstrates the conditions that spawned MeToo: a woman who makes an accusation against an unpopular or hated man will be, at least, believed. She will not suffer negative consequences. She may even be rewarded, even if the man himself isn’t punished. But a woman who goes against a man who is too important, too well-connected? She won’t even get a chance to testify. She’s actually even worse than the abusers. Every aspect of her account and character will be placed under a microscope, and anything she cannot prove with 100% fidelity will be held up as proof of how horrible she is. She’s also on the spreadsheet.
And in an even sadder way, this disparity demonstrates why the MeToo and BelieveWomen stuff was horribly misguided from the start. Removing the structures that allow society to function will not magically result in a more just society manifesting from the wreckage of the old. You might–might–remove some of the most malignant shitheads. But in the process you will ruin the lives of many who are either innocent or marginally guilty, and you will entrench the utter empowerment of those who are, only in some small ways, the lesser evils. There’s no path forward, here. There is no hope here.

TW: US Politics, self-harm, suicide, lots and lots of ranting
I think my friend voted for Trump.
When I asked her who she voted for, she said (and I'm summarizing here) that she has the right to keep her vote to herself and that she'd made the decision over the past few years to keep politics to herself and out of friendships. She does have that right...but I wonder if she said that cuz she knows I hate Trump, and she doesn't want to admit she voted for him?
Besides that, she thinks the media is at fault for making Trump look bad, and she knows that (and I'm directly quoting here) "half the country is taking the news very hard and the other half is celebrating." And the other day, I told her that a couple friends of mine either self-harmed or attempted. Her response?
"And the fact that the media has played it up so much that it would drive anyone to extreme emotional distress or physical harm is inexcusable."
Now, this may just be me being overly sensitive to Trumpian rhetoric, but blaming the media for this? Yes, the media is flawed, but none of them made Trump look bad; he did that on his own. And hearing a blanket blame for media just...it makes me think of Maga supporters going "Fake News!" I don't know if she intended this or not.
And then she ended her message with God is in charge. Which...I'm a Christian witch, so I do believe that, but still, just because God is in charge, doesn't mean this is God's will. And it doesn't mean we can just sit around and expect Him to do everything for us.
I'm just hurt and confused right now. She's helped me through some dark times, but even the thought of her thinking Trump is ok? Or at least thinking it's the media's fault for making him look bad? It sucks. And, I don't know if I can keep being friends with someone who legit doesn't see anything wrong with Trump.
