It's weird to remember that I once got told off for sitting on the floor in the lobby of Trump Tower.
This was back in like 2008 during our school trip to NYC. I had no idea who Trump was at the time but his big garish building was a good meet up point for a bunch of lost British school kids.
I miss the days when I didn't know who he was.

Would Spider-Man be different if he lived in Chicago instead of New York?
the thing is that chicago is much less dense than NYC, and most of the buildings tall enough to swing around on are clustered up in particular neighborhoods. neighborhoods which are in turn heavily shaped by the legacy of redlining and such. so he'd probably spend a lot of time agonizing over the fact that he's most qualified to provide help in the areas of the city with the most wealth and the least violent crime
maybe he could resolve this by burning down trump tower or beating up a bunch of financial executives or something but unfortunately I don't think spider-man is enough of a communist for that to realistically happen

Donald Trump has a gag order placed on him by the judge in his Stormy Daniels hush money trial. So to get around the gag order various Trump lickspittles make pilgrimages to the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse to say stuff to the media which Trump himself is not allowed to say. Past Trump mouthpieces have included pseudo-hillbilly fascist Sen. J.D. Vance and House Speaker "MAGA Mike" Johnson.
Monday's Trump mouthpieces were a quintet of MAGA C-listers: Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA-09), ex-NYC police commissioner Bernie Kerik, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, Trump campaign aide Jason Miller (not related to Stephen Miller), and Kash Patel - a onetime deputy director of the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.
While Trump has been beseeching his followers to show up outside the courthouse to demonstrate support for their Dear Leader, on Monday it was pro-democracy Trump opponents who were there in greater numbers.
A cadre of MAGA loyalists who had gathered to show their support for Donald Trump during his hush-money trial was shouted down by a bevy of cowbell-clanging anti-Trump protesters on Monday when they tried to speak outside of a lower Manhattan courthouse. [ ... ] The group that flanked the twice-impeached ex-president this time around included South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, former New York police commissioner Bernie Kerik, ex-Trump administration official Kash Patel, Trump senior advisor Jason Miller, and Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA). All but Patel, meanwhile, were customarily decked out in Trump’s standard red tie and navy suit combo.
Yep, four of the five designated Trump lickspittles were dressed in Trump uniforms. Did he dress them himself over at Trump Tower?
Alan Wilson got an earful when he tried to spew the Trump line.
With boos raining down on Wilson, one demonstrator could be heard shouting “go home you carpetbagging fools.” Another protester who camped out behind the pro-Trump speakers with a large “Bootlickers” sign relentlessly blew a whistle while ringing a cowbell. According to independent reporter Jacqueline Sweet, the man was given a citation by law enforcement for “too much cowbell.” Patel, who is expected to take a senior White House role if Trump returns to power, portrayed the ex-president as a victim of an “unconstitutional weaponization of justice.” It was difficult to hear what he had to say as the crowd chanted: “Kash Patel, Go To Hell!” Kerik was also subjected to targeted insults when he spoke, with protesters calling him a “bald-headed bigot” throughout his comments. According to New York Magazine correspondent Oliva Nuzzi, the Trump-hating crowd also took aim at the speakers for dressing just like the former president, prompting them to call the MAGA group “red tie terrorists.” She added that the demonstrators even got a laugh from Miller, who chuckled when one protester wondered if they had bought their suits at “Dictators R Us.”
To use a favorite Trump word, Monday's Trump mouthpieces were real losers.
Rep. Andrew Clyde's rise to fame in Georgia was as a prominent gun store owner. One wonders how many of his guns make it up to NYC to be used illegally.
Bernie Kerik is a convicted felon for tax fraud who was later pardoned by Trump. He served several years behind bars for his crimes.
Alan Wilson has made false election fraud claims even before the Trump presidency and is a serial litigator for far right causes.
Kash Patel once served as an aide to Devin Nunes – the former House member who unsuccessfully sued a cartoon cow.
Jason Miller admitted to hiring prostitutes and having extramarital affairs with two campaign staffers. Republican family values – just like Trump.
Meidas Touch has a video report on Monday's scene outside the courthouse. (never mind the plant commercial in the middle).
youtube
If you're anywhere near NYC, visit the Manhattan Criminal Courthouse area on a day that the hush money trial is in session. There's a lunch break starting roughly at 11:30 AM and court is recessed for the day in the afternoon before the building closes at 5:00 PM. Bring your own cow bell and sign.
Court is in session this week on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. Next Monday court is closed for Memorial Day but should be in session on Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday. The case may go to the jury sometime late next week.
The Manhattan courthouse is at 100 Centre Street; take the 4, 5, or 6 subway trains to the Brooklyn Bridge-City Hall station and walk about four blocks north. The crowds and the Trump bootlickers seem to be directly across the street from the courthouse at Collect Pond Park.
EDIT: If Trump toadies had a bad day outside the courtroom, the one and only defense witness for Trump seems to have had an even worse one in court.

couldn't see these papers well enough and looked online for info
Seen in Wikipedia under "Trump Tower"...
"Qatar Airways, owned by the Qatari government, has rented commercial space in the tower since at least 2008,[146] a fact that news media outlets noted when Executive Order 13769 suspended immigration from seven majority-Muslim countries but not from Qatar.[147][148]
From 2008 to October 2019, the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China operated a bank branch with 100 employees on three rented floors of Trump Tower, for approximately $2 million a year... (read about what Trump got from China in return...)
Past
Past tenants include Jean-Claude "Baby Doc" Duvalier, the ex-president of Haiti who died in 2014,[171] who was discovered to have lived in a $2 million apartment on the 54th floor in 1989...
Prince Mutaib bin Abdulaziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, reportedly lived on an entire floor in the tower.[146]
Former Trump campaign manager Paul Manafort, who lived in the tower when he was Trump's campaign manager,[161] agreed to forfeit his Trump Tower condo in September 2018, as part of a plea deal made during the Special Counsel investigation of Russian ties to the 2016 election.[186]
..present declining worth... quote from the same Wiki article...
Wells Fargo & Co., the master servicer of the $100 million mortgage loan Trump took out in 2012,[141] placed the tower on a debt watch list in September 2021 because its average occupancy had fallen to 78.9% from 85.9% at the end of 2020. Revenue was $33.7 million in 2020, $7.5 million in the first quarter of 2021.[142]..."

Talk Shop Tuesday! How do you decide how much IRL is in your sroeiea? For example when Rose goes to NYC in the 80s and sees the twin towers, she has a reaction, but there is no Covid or Trump in the Hazelverse.
Thank you!
Thank you! Presuming that funky word in there is meant to say "stories"?
Talk Shop Tuesday
Oooh, that's a tough one, since the vast majority of my stories don't take place in the current present. For the most part, I tend to stick to the timeline established by the canon media, which means that most of my fics are at least a few years "behind schedule"
My X-Men fics take place between the 1960s-1980s
Vivienne's story takes place in the 1890s
My DC fics take place around 2021
Heartstrings takes place in 2013
Taking Flight takes place in the early 2000s
WWFA? takes place in 2014
Nom De Guerre (my other 6 Underground fic) takes place around 2019
Even when my fics do take place in the present (or near-present), I don't have a strict rule for what events I include and which I don't. I suppose I kind of fall into a similar vein as when I decide what's canon and what I'm changing when I write fanfic: if it's something that has a reason to be changed directly, I'll change it, otherwise I'll generally leave it be.
For example: Catch and Release takes place in 2024, but there's no mention of a COVID pandemic having taken place. Half the population Blipped during the prime years of COVID, plus the MCU has a fair bit more technological advancement than the real world, so even if COVID did still exist, transmission would be limited enough to not cause a worldwide event.
However, Heart in Your Hands also takes place in 2024, and I would say that the COVID pandemic absolutely did happen there. For one thing, there's not anything to really prevent that from happening; and for another, I think it can fit into the story in an interesting way. Coney Island is completely empty for the first time Jimmy's ever seen it, it's even more isolating than it was before... all over the world, people are being quarantined in their haunted houses and forced to interact with ghosts they weren't entirely sure really existed before... the Spenglers have just moved onto the Dirt Farm at the tail end of the quarantine period and things aren't quite normal yet... it works for the story, even if it's not overtly mention in the movies or HIYH.
Plus, I feel like there's a bit of a distinction in how the movies were made. Both the new MCU movies and the new Ghostbusters movies were made in a post-COVID world, but I think there's a difference in approach to their atmosphere. The MCU tends to focus on its superhero threats and uses the Blip almost as a stand-in for the COVID pandemic - there's symbolism there, how the world was suddenly changed and people had to adapt to a new way of living, but COVID itself doesn't exist in that world. And while there's no mention of COVID in the new Ghostbusters movies either, there's almost a feel that it still took place: again, not in any overt way, but there's just something about the atmosphere and the way people behave that tells me COVID still happened.
I feel like I'm not articulating this well, and I really didn't mean to focus solely on the COVID pandemic, that's just the main recent event that could go either way on whether or not I include it in my story - especially since most movies choose not to mention it, even if they were made in a post-pandemic world. The long story short is: unless there's a reason for it to deviate from the real-world timeline, it generally follows the real-world timeline. Otherwise you just have to balance a whole lot of Butterfly Effect stuff, and things just get way more complicated.

Sebastian Murdock at HuffPost:
Former President Donald Trump called Vice President Kamala Harris “retarded” at a recent dinner in New York City, where he also railed against Jewish voters supporting her amid the White House race, according to a new report. Trump made the comments during the event last month at Trump Tower in Manhattan, The New York Times reported Saturday. As the GOP presidential nominee complained about the number of Jewish voters backing his Democratic rival, he reportedly said that they needed their heads examined for not standing with him despite his support for Israel.
Trump has previously sought to put the blame on Jewish voters for a potential election loss this year. The dinner event, where Trump also suggested that contributors to his campaign needed to do more for him, was attended by high-profile donors including billionaire hedge fund manager Paul Singer. Billionaire investment banker Warren Stephens was present as well, along with former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos and her husband. The Times, citing seven people with knowledge of the dinner who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said Trump suggested that donors should be grateful to him, with the former president boasting about giving them tax breaks. The Times’ report comes as Trump has seemed to exhibit increasingly erratic behavior ahead of Election Day. On Thursday, Trump gave a long, rambling speech in Detroit, where he trashed the city he was speaking in, attempted to define the word “grocery” and got defensive about the crowds at his events.
Donald Trump used an ableist slur (re****ed) to call Kamala Harris and railed against pro-Harris Jews at a recent NYC dinner.

A few stories about the Tangerine Tyrant caught my eye today, and they all point to his increasing desperation - so I figured I’d go around the horn and celebrate his continuing dissipation.
First: Criminal Defendant and Adjudicated Rapist Donald Trump yesterday predicted a “bloodbath” if he didn’t get reelected, and the media quickly devolved into outlets condemning his use of violent rhetoric and others - Fox and Newsmax - concern trolling over how he was talking specifically about the automobile industry. So, whatever. If you’re interested in parsing the event along those lines, have at it - but I think there’s a more interesting, deeply indicative phenomenon just below the surface that speaks not just to Trump’s mentality but that of his whole bonkers cult.
If you’re looking for the atavistic pull of Donald Trump on his followers, it’s in his power to do whatever the hell he wants and face no consequences. NO ONE can tell him what to do. NO ONE can keep him from attacking whomever he wants. NO ONE can prevent him from sating his desires. NO ONE.
Now, we know that’s not true - as evidenced by his exile to Mar-a-Lago for the past three years, but it’s part of the mystique. In a lot of ways, it makes sense if you look at his cult following - people who are, by and large, deeply disempowered and enraged at a culture that is stripping away their traditional privileges and social entitlements. They WANT Trump to keep shitting the punch bowl as a sort of wish fulfillment of their own stifled rage. Maybe they can’t rape the woman they want to rape or kill the immigrants they hate for speaking Spanish or Hindi at the Gas-n-Sip – but they sure as hell can dream about it when Trump gives a cross-burner of a speech. That’s all standard form.
But what we saw last night - and in the fascist outrage-trolling today - was something new. It’s been creeping into the 2024 election cycle here and there, but yesterday, it entirely broke through, and it’s this: NOT EVEN TRUMP’S BRAIN IS ALLOWED TO CENSOR TRUMP’S MOUTH WHEN IT COMES TO RAGE AND ANGER.
Look, Trump KNOWS that using words like “bloodbath” is going to cost him non-MAGA voters. He knows that calling people “vermin” is going to hurt his chances of navigating the very narrow path ahead if he hopes to return to the White House. Yet, he can’t stop himself. Trump is unable to act in his own easily achieved best interest if it means not being a monster, and while it’s lamentable that he’s bringing such hatred to our national debate, I encourage him to keep it up.
You be you, Donald!
Every single time you let your id out of its box, it’s like sending America an unsolicited, mushroom-shaped dick-pic. Sure, your fans are going to love it, but the rest of us grossed the fuck out.
So, please! Rage on!
-----
Second:
Trump’s lawyers in the NYS civil fraud case settlement submitted a filing today that it is “a practical impossibility” for Trump to post a bond for the half-billion dollars he needs to cough up in order to appeal the decision. According to reports, he approached 30 different surety companies, and they all turned him down. Why they would do that might indicate what’s got him tuned to “bloodbath” and “vermin” levels of rage.
It might be a simple point, but it bears a paragraph of explanation.
Most folks who don’t work in the NYC real estate market – or any real estate market – might think, “Hey, he’s a rich guy. Why not just sell a few of those buildings he owns? They’ve gotta be worth a pretty penny.”
Or, alternatively, “Why won’t anyone take Trump Tower as collateral for a loan?”
The simple answer is he doesn’t really OWN any of that shit outright. It’s ALL mortgaged to the hilt. To get a clearer picture of this, let’s look at 40 Wall Street – one of Trump’s “prestige” properties.
The numbers are a bit hard to come by, but an hour of reading suggests that the building is presently worth about $200 million. Mind you, part of the fraud charges – now proven – included his valuation of the building in 2015 at over $750 million, but it’s just not worth that at all.
So, take the $200 million as a starting point and note that Trump’s mortgage on the property, according to a Bloomberg report in November of 2023, stands at $122 million. So, if Trump were to liquidate his stake in the property fully, he’d only net about $78 million – and that is BEFORE the capital gains taxes, NYS taxes, and NYC taxes on the sale. According to a few articles I’ve scanned this evening, that would be up to about 40% of his earnings. That means, even if he drops one of his most precious assets, he would only raise about $50 million.
He owes TEN TIMES that number by next week.
Play that out another round, and realize that if Trump tried to sell ten or twenty office buildings in NYC all at once, the price of ALL of them would plummet to fire-sale prices.
He’s fucked. Moreover, he knows it and is desperate to find a way out.
-----
This brings us to news item number three: The Return of Paul Manafort.
News leaked today that Trump is considering bringing convicted felon and former campaign manager Paul Manafort back into his 2024 bid for the White House. Manafort, primarily due to his complete lack of a moral center, would be a tremendous asset for Trump. He’s a solid political operative, but what he REALLY brings to the table is a direct line back to the Russian oligarchy and their money. That, obviously, is an enormous threat to national security, and I’ve got to hope that the intelligence services in DC and around the world will be on heightened alert for any covert – or overt – entreaties to Putin or his cronies for a loan. I’ve got to hope there are ways of making such entreaties known to the public through selective leaks if nothing else.
But that brings us back to observation number one.
Trump knows that going to Putin for help with his financial difficulties if it becomes known, would be a dagger to the heart for his chances of returning to the White House. Yet, if I’m right, he will be unable to stop himself when it comes to finding a fix for his hemorrhaging empire. His brain will tell him this is a terrible idea, but it won’t matter. NO ONE is allowed to stop Donald Trump from doing whatever the hell he wants to do – not even Donald Trump.
In 1776, James Otis, a thoughtful supporter of the Revolutionary War, noted about politics, “When the pot boils, the scum will rise.”
Trump is proving that to be true, even when there’s only one evil, arrogant, rapist bastard in the soup. He’s so screwed.
Love to you all.
Michael J. Tallon
