It's super late on a Thursday but I wanna play so here is a section of my Adar one-shot WIP that is neeeeeeeeeeeeearly finished. Hopefully I'll post it in full later tonight or tomorrow depending.

It's from a prompt given to me by a friend - Adar is having reluctant throughts abaout Sauron while alone.

The full thing is smut but this bit isn't. The bits with dialogue are Adar remembering the events of earlier in the day so the third paragaph might feel like a wierd jump out of context.

“You can’t kill me.” A jolt of bile stung in Adar’s chest at the challenge. He had to fight the urge to crush his face into the dirt then and there, to plunge his knife into the man’s weak flesh again and again and again until his blood mixed with the ash in a vile, dark mud. He hadn’t felt the desire to sully something so beautiful in an age. In his mind’s eye he had seen a flash of red hair and it was all he could do to still his hand.  “In time, you will beg me to.” he had snarled.��   Yes. He would enjoy breaking him. Adar groaned and rolled his head. The tightness was gone but the tension was still there. He couldn’t focus on the map in front of him. This King of the Southlands would be nothing more than a brief distraction, the bigger threat was the return of the Shadow. Would he even know him if he saw him again? Would he still hold himself tall and proud? Would he show any signs of the wounds Adar had inflicted on him? Would he be scarred too?

❤️ Tonight, I'm sharing a little Angbang WIP ❤️

It was not what I had intended for him when I called him to my side. I say I called him, and it amuses him greatly, you see. Like the master hunter calling the bird of prey to return to upon his outflung arm. In truth, I did call him for him. What came to me was not he but an answering cry, like birds in high-arching flight screeching and hunting for and finding one another.

Fandom: The Rings of Power Genre: Original Alternate Universe, Romance, Smut, Horror Pairing: Halbrand/Saurondriel WC: 16.5k

Summary: In Arda, it is illegal for those who have dominion over daylight to encroach upon those who have dominion over night. From dawn to sunset, Daylighters are free-but when night falls, a strict curfew is enforced to protect them from the Nightwalkers-vampires that drink the blood of living mortals and immortals alike. When Galadriel is forced out of her office after working overtime, she's captured and detained by the Night Police along with a hungry, potentially violent vampire who was arrested for brawling.

Can she survive the night to see another dawn?

Even as she glances through maps of the city in which the story takes place, she notes the dozen or so small parks that have been highlighted in green for her to construct and render. In all, it doesn’t seem like too challenging a task. The spaces are small, so she doesn’t think the lift will be all that bad. An extra line of green text had been added to the original brief—permission granting an extra week to complete the green spaces as long as each space has a layout by querter’s end.

The extension had been signed off on by Sauron Maia. 

Sauron Maia. Galadriel’s body goes rigid as the typography bearing his name burns in her eyes. The Lord of the Vampire Court, Department Head of Forms and Worlds of the Night Division, and Queen Nymara’s right hand ghoul.

Galadriel lets out a slow breath, her heart rate hitching as she covers her mouth with her hand. The idea that Sauron Maia would know that she worked here made a shudder race through her, leaving space for a deep, sinking horror. 

This particular undead King of bloodsucking demons had killed her father and ordered her mother’s murder in cold blood after they had both stood against his pillaging and raping when he was a lieutenant in Melkor’s army. 

He probably didn’t even remember. It had been centuries ago. She’d been sent to Belfalas for safety to live with her grandparents, so they never would have met anyway. Even if they had, she would have only been a child in those days. 

No. She couldn’t have anything to do with this project. The risk was far too great.

Love love love this fic. It’s only one chapter long but it’s a wonderfully long one.

It’s a time loop style story and has my absolutely favorite type of ending. I won’t spoil it but it’s all sorts of my jam.

One chapter long and complete, I highly recommend this fic.

My 2024 fic I'm most proud of

As we're finishing out 2024, what is one thing from your writing this year that you're particularly proud of? And what is one fic you wrote that you would recommend for others to read?

I got tagged by the lovely @withallthatisleftofmyheart, thank you so much!

This one was actually tough for me - I have written quite a bit this year (compared to previous years), and also shared way more of it than I expected.

There's still a few ideas, WIPs and drafts on my harddrive, some of which I'll hopefully write/edit/post in the future, and other works that will likely stay hidden on there (various fandoms, not just the current one). I'm just as proud of those as I am of the works I have shared online.

Still, if I go by the works I have shared, my Adar-centric modern!AU fanfiction "A Very Urukly Halloween" is absolutely the fanfic I am most proud of. It's the first thing I wrote for and shared within the TROP/Adar fandom, and I wrote it all down in a literal day and edited it in a second, sharing it as I went along. I never thought I'd be capable of doing something like that.

To me, the fic represents the beauty of the Adar fandom, and how special it is - people were so encouraging even though I joined the fandom relatively late, and have been very generous with their comments and kind praise towards this fic. (Thank you Adarlings, you are the sweetest!) This little AU even inspired other people to post and/or write their own fics, which I am still awed and honored by.

It's a very cozy fic, mostly lighthearted fluff and with some humor mixed in, which is why I myself return to it at times and love re-reading it and thinking up more ideas for it every now and then. It feels very cathartic.

And who knows, maybe I'll write for this AU again in the future. ;)

I would also be remiss not to recommend this fic. Which is one of my favorite that I’ve read in the fandom so far.

*slaps the roof of the fic* this baby can fit all sorts of things in here. You want excellent writing and deep angst? Oh buddy, we got that. You want a tragic and emotionally complex rated-M for mature relationship? Boy howdy you got it here. You want a redemption arc that makes you wonder if he’s actually redeemed in one of the most honest looks at that sort of personality I’ve ever seen out to a page. hell yeah, in spades.

Completed and 43 chapters long. This author is quickly becoming one that I read everything they write.

Crack idea, but I wonder what would happen if S1!Adar and S2!Adar met each other.

Apart from having different actors portray them and different goals due to the creation of Mordor in S1, both Adars do come across as slightly different from each other due to each actor adding their own spin to him. It’s got me curious, would they

immediately become suspicious of one another, thinking the other might be Sauron or perhaps another type of impostor ready to try and take the uruk from them, divide them or otherwise harm their cause?

team up and share leadership of the uruk, using the fact they have an unknown ‚twin‘ to their advantage strategically and to confuse their opponents (esp Sauron)?

allow one of them to work as a spy or even to defect from their cause to have a life they both secretly wished for, away from the battles and the responsibility? (Would the other even be able to do that, or would their sense of duty stop him?)

would S1 have gone differently if S2!Adar was involved (or replaced S1!Adar)?

would S2 have gone differently if S1!Adar was involved? Would he have let Halbrand go with even the slightest possibility of him being Sauron? Would he have let S2!Adar attack Eregion, so soon after finding a home for the uruk and with the chance that they are playing into Sauron’s hands?

etc.

Just some very interesting ideas to think about. What do you guys think?

charles watching his wife and daughter at his interview in the fanzone today, and then as soon as Alia got fussy and they began to walk away he was super serious, keeping his eye on them. at one point a few fans got a bit too excited and you should have SEEN how upset he was, he left the stage and made sure security attended to his family until he could get to them and make sure they were safe.

remember they are people too and there is no excuse for the behaviour shown today towards the leclerc family.

My pull to the Saurondriel/Haladriel fandom is complete... I’m back on my fic trailer bullshit and I ain’t even writing for this fandom! 🤣 What can I say, these two just slay me, and I want to contribute to the fandom with positive, community-building content that highlights all of our awesome writers and creators. Hopefully this does that!

lots of fans have made valid points and written well-thought-out posts about the trop ai drama, so i'm not gonna rehash them, but i do want to bring up something that no one seems to be talking about and it's the impulse that leads people to plug these things into ai generators in the first place.

fandom over the last year especially has become increasingly toxic to the point that actual billion-dollar corporations are afraid it. the result is subpar, pandering films, books, and television shows that break no new ground, recycle old tropes, and sacrifice story integrity to avoid catching heat from the loudest, most entitled people in the room. i'm calling this an issue of entitlement first and foremost because the idea that the audience should have any say over a non-crowd-created media project is preposterous. deciding that the cons outweigh the pros of watching something and choosing to walk away without making a fuss is a lost discipline now because everyone with an internet connection and a social media account believes that their vision reigns supreme. "how dare this show downplay my favorite ship! they were supposed to kiss! that was the whole point! the absence of this one thing i had on my wishlist is a crime against me personally!" so they turn to ai and click some buttons and now these gifs exist and are being circulated with an air of "i've righted a wrong." worse, the use of ai in this way is being conflated with the creation of fanworks???

there are reasons why i don't believe the ai saurondiel kiss is on the same raft as, say, making them kiss in a drawing or a published fanfic, but my main concern is with the spirit behind each. fanworks are made in homage to the source material, even the fix-it fics. there is an acknowledgment, a separation even, between the television show and the fanwork. this separation is necessary and i would say even integral to the nature of fan creation, while ai closes that gap until it no longer exists. the elimination of space between creator and audience also happens on social media, when disgruntled fans who have taken umbrage with a fictional character or creative decision directly harass the writers or the actors involved. more and more, fans are demanding to be in the rooms, in the minds, and to exert control over the people who tell their stories, and it has only ever worked to our collective detriment. now i'm not saying that if you liked and shared the saurondiel ai kiss that you're the same as the internet trolls who harass (mostly) women and people of color online. but i'm begging you to do some self-reflection and ask yourself why you feel entitled to seeing what you want on your screen.

what has changed in the last few years that would make you dissatisfied with, say, reading someone's fic or making your own drawing? is it a matter of "the tool is there, so why not use it?" is it "i believe it should have happened and it didn't and i feel cheated?" or maybe there's been a pattern you've noticed in your recent media "consumption" (god, i hate that word) where, unless a show or television series goes the exact way you want it to, it feels like you've been defrauded somehow? i'm not being facetious. i'm inviting you to notice that what you're feeling is probably discomfort, disappointment, maybe even cognitive dissonance because you imagined it going one way, and now you're at a loss because it didn't. you built it up in your head, you had something to look forward to, you were convinced that it would happen, it was exciting and you were so eager to get to that point, and then.... and then...

we've all been there. and it sucks. but i also want to remind you of how important it is to preserve the separation. this space is ours. the writer's room, the filming set, the editing room, those spaces are theirs. the actors' likenesses are theirs. thinking beyond trop, the separation is how we get creative works that challenge us politically, emotionally, that make us uncomfortable and tell us important truths. writers shouldn't have to - and shouldn't FULL STOP - do what we want them to do. sometimes that means knowing when to walk away, when to say "i no longer enjoy this show, i will no longer support it" or "i will continue to watch but pretend things went differently," the latter of which has been the spark that has moved so many online fans to draw, paint, write, or sew. it's a type of creation that allows "canon" and "fanon" to exist parallel to one another. moreover, the effort it takes to make anything with your own two hands, with your own time, and with your own energy increases your appreciation for the creative impulse. films and books and television stop being "products" for your "consumption" because you're aware of what goes into them, and it becomes easier to look at things you don't like or disagree with and say, "you know what, i'm gonna pass," or "not in my headcanon."

oh, and by the way plugging things into an ai generator? is theft. the same way that it's generally frowned upon for people to use ai to, say, write the rest of an unfinished fic without the express permission of the fanwork creator, using the actors' likenesses to make them kiss goes against everything the actors' union fought for last year. i'll also add that it's incredibly creepy. almost all of us are in agreement that intimacy coordinators are a good thing because they act - again! - as a separation between what's "real" and what isn't, the same way going on ao3 and reading a fic that very clearly says on the tin that it's a fanfic, unaffiliated with the official ip, is a separation. it's another beast entirely to normalize fan-use of ai, to say you support creatives, support actors, support unions, and then do this in your personal life. i repeat the question: what impulse leads anyone to believe that this is okay other than a feeling of misplaced ownership?

tl;dr: ai nonsense does not belong in fandom spaces. (in my home state of california, it is illegal to use digital replicas of an actor's voice or likeness in place of their actual services without their informed consent [which, in spirit, is what you're doing by using ai to make your gifs]). we all just need to mind our own business and go back to writing our fix-it fics and complaining to our friends in relative peace. if you're finding it impossible to do so, ask yourself why. remember that fanart is our longstanding tradition. stop outsourcing it to an unregulated technology just because your two faves didn't kiss.

Okay so look, here is why I want Celeborn in TROP as soon as he can feasibly get there

I know that many people feel he shouldn't turn up yet because at the moment Galadriel is still traumatised, brittle and emotionally entangled with Sauron. I want him to turn up now precisely because Galadriel is traumatised, brittle and emotionally entangled with Sauron.

I do not want him to swoop in and instantly save her from that, to be clear. I do not want him to be her reward for getting through it. I want him to turn up as an almost-stranger to a wife he's been away from for eight hundred years and see her now, see her as she is, hairtrigger temper and trauma and grief and unresolved situationship with Satan's Little Helper and all. I want his love for her to include all of that.

(Because! They don't have to stay together! Galadriel's family is full of couples who lived out their marriages on separate continents due to what I'll just briefly gloss over as Some Significant Ideological Disagreements. We know they end up together in Lothlórien but the characters have not read Lord of the Rings!)

I want him to see her tempted by power, and know that whatever they have later is built on that kind of understanding of what she wants and who she is and what she nearly did - and what she might still do. I want Sauron to still be offering her that in their 3000-year-long mind battle and for her to still be tempted by it and for Celeborn to know, to fully know, maybe to have it as an unspoken pain between them, maybe to be the only person she can trust to tell.

I do not want them to sit around holding hands and smiling gently at each other, yay missing husband's back hearts and flowers THE END. I want them to argue. I want those centuries of separation to matter. I want hurt feelings and pain and grief turned to anger, and to see how they navigate through that - why they navigate through that.

I want Sauron to try a divide-and-conquer approach with the two of them by showing Celeborn that raft-vision of Galadriel as his queen, and for Celeborn to find himself horrified by it and loving her despite it, and - perhaps! - really quite intensely turned on by the thought of it, too.*

I want them to rebuild that marriage, not just to resume it like they were never even apart. I want it to be worth rebuilding. I want him to love her.
