Summary: In Arda, it is illegal for those who have dominion over daylight to encroach upon those who have dominion over night. Even as she glances through maps of the city in which the story takes place, she notes the dozen or so small parks that have been highlighted in green for her to construct and render. In all, it doesn’t seem like too challenging a task. The spaces are small, so she doesn’t think the lift will be all that bad. An extra line of green text had been added to the original brief—permission granting an extra week to complete the green spaces as long as each space has a layout by querter’s end.

The extension had been signed off on by Sauron Maia. 

Sauron Maia. Galadriel’s body goes rigid as the typography bearing his name burns in her eyes. The Lord of the Vampire Court, Department Head of Forms and Worlds of the Night Division, and Queen Nymara’s right hand ghoul.

Galadriel lets out a slow breath, her heart rate hitching as she covers her mouth with her hand. The idea that Sauron Maia would know that she worked here made a shudder race through her, leaving space for a deep, sinking horror. 

This particular undead King of bloodsucking demons had killed her father and ordered her mother’s murder in cold blood after they had both stood against his pillaging and raping when he was a lieutenant in Melkor’s army. 

He probably didn’t even remember. It had been centuries ago. She’d been sent to Belfalas for safety to live with her grandparents, so they never would have met anyway. Even if they had, she would have only been a child in those days. 

No. She couldn’t have anything to do with this project. The risk was far too great.

Instead of sending his wolves out to kill Finrod after capturing Felagund in his dungeons, Sauron demands an exchange for his life. Galadriel offers herself.

“Where is it?” demanded her clear voice, partially broken by irritation as she spoke—and it was none other than Írimë, pacing the hall with agitation in each step as she strode across the foyer. The cool, calm, and collected exterior she often displayed to them was now split into two down the center, revealing at once all that had been hidden underneath her façade.

A single voice answered her in response.

“Where is what?” called back Halbrand, noncommittal with his reply and seemingly bored with her newfound exhibit of emotion towards him. He had little patience for her outburst, and he did not hesitate to show it. Slowly, he strode across the foyer, stopping to examine objects along the way in between his lingering footfalls, an obvious contrast to Írimë’s rigid stance on the other side of the hall.

“Do not play coy with me,” Írimë warned him, her bright eyes as sharp as the glint of ice on the windows as it grew on the glass outside of the fortress. “What have you done with Master’s most treasured possession in your care?”

You want a tragic and emotionally complex rated-M for mature relationship? Boy howdy you got it here. You want a redemption arc that makes you wonder if he’s actually redeemed in one of the most honest looks at that sort of personality I’ve ever seen out to a page. hell yeah, in spades.

Completed and 43 chapters long. This author is quickly becoming one that I read everything they write.

Galadriel, captured in the middle of a war, has been imprisoned and handed over to him as a sacrifice to be made in the Temple of the High Priest, but Sauron has other plans. From Akallabêth to the founding of Gondor, unlikely allies are forged.

My pull to the Saurondriel/Haladriel fandom is complete... I’m back on my fic trailer bullshit and I ain’t even writing for this fandom! 🤣 What can I say, these two just slay me, and I want to contribute to the fandom with positive, community-building content that highlights all of our awesome writers and creators. Hopefully this does that!

Yes to above! and I have many thoughtson Celeborn (as a character, in various ships, fears/hopes for in TROP etc etc etc), but, another time. What I also think is:

1. ‘Ship and let ship’ is basic fandom manners and a valued fandom tradition for good reason, and marching from “I don’t like the ship” to “the shippers are bad people who are doing something Wrong” is never a good move;

2. fandoms are at their best when there are a lot of different views and takes and perspectives thriving; fandoms become grimy and joyless when they slip into One Correct Take Or Else places;

3. it’s kind of funny to see people rec or retweet my Haladriel fic one minute then the next declare that people who like Celeborn are just antis who Don’t Get It!

and 4. each to their own but to me, if you need to dunk on a ‘rival’ ship to build yours up then your ship looks weak. It really won’t work unless you can prove the other ship is awful? Cannot relate; my ships all sail just fine by themselves.

I’ve been on such a journey with the character since 2001 (yall. I love Marton Csokas. I was raised by Xena????) and I’d consider myself between interested and obsessed with Celeborn now (displaced and lost prince?? Doriath sounds like MADNESS), and in certain arguments, I am a ride or die. But I am very sus when people use him for an agenda. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Here’s another Celeborn hot take: because of how much I enjoyed Elrond/Galadriel and especially Adar/Galadriel in season two, I am certain that whenever Celeborn shows up, I’ll be like LATE, AS USUAL, PRINCELING. what's wrong with haladriel tag today? everyone is spreading hate or getting baited by the antis. doom and gloom. only a few posts are of the shippers goofing or discussing the ep in a way that doesn't feel like the show ended haladriel for good.

yeah, idk. i try to not scroll down the tag nowadays. i finished the episode and it was fine to me. i understand everyone's complaints and frustrations as i myself wished for sauron to see galadriel being in captivity at least (and my main issue is galadriel's shortened screentime), but i feel like we might be overreacting a bit and ruining our own shipping experience?

what saddens me the most is that i don't see the fan creations getting appreciated. the shippers would make great gifsets, edits, art - no reblogs. write fics - no comments or kudos. maybe the fandom is still small but i look at the stuff from s1 and it had so much more interaction and encouragement from other shippers.

even the metas from s1 aren't all about "when will celeborn appear and can galadriel be shipped with sauron when she is married to celeborn?" it seems like haladriels didn't give a f about that forced discourse back then and were just wholly enjoying the ship.

as i've said, i think elrond kiss is not the worst thing for haladriels. it might indicate that celeborn won't be introduced (yet), so galadriel won't have to "go back to being his wife". elrond/galadriel won't turn any more romantic than this, at most it will be ambiguous. and they might be testing the waters for how the audiences react to canon divergence. if elrond can be galadriel's jacob, why can't sauron be her edward?

listen, so many of the most iconic ships have never kissed or were never officially a couple. if the dynamic is shippable then why stop shipping just bc a season doesn't go exactly as the fans wanted it to go in their wildest dreams? we still have s3, there still might be the mind-palace communication explored in s3. after all we know the whole show was inspired by the idea that sauron ever so gropes to see galadriel and at some point galadriel closes the door on him but he still allows her to roam his mind freely!

+ this season still was like a continuation of sauron and galadriel mirroring each other, it confirmed that galadriel has feelings for sauron and that sauron is obsessed with her. there is still one ep left where this slow-burn build-up is supposed to climax.

my point is, let's try to be more positive? and being positive isn't necessarily confined to being delulu. it means creating fan content or hyping up fan creations, it means taking what we get in the episodes and dissecting it with passion, engaging with analysis, having fun!

i have been in many other fandoms and i know that a fandom can't be longevous if it's sustained on frustration and negativity and discourse 80% of the time.

for what's it worth, let's let the creators know that we want haladriel, not that we hate the show the same way the lorebros hate it. yk?

As promised here's my comparison post about how similar the Haladriel (Sauron/Galadriel) and Hèra/Wulf ships are from the LOTR projects "The Rings of Power" and "The War of the Rohirrim". 😀 I loved the movie and totally rec it and am a fan of ROP, and now ship both of these ships. I figured they would be alike, but it was even more than I thought. Putting most of this behind a cut for spoilers for both and length but will say again like I did in my review post that Hèra & Wulf both by themselves and their relationship felt like how we've written a lot of 1st Age fics about Galadriel & Sauron back when they were Artanis & Mairon and during The War of Wrath.

To start with the characters themselves, Hèra is very similar to how Galadriel was in the 1st Age and the beginning of ROP as she was a princess named Artanis and the only daughter of one of the Nolder elves.

Also with their costumes she wears mostly green, white, and gold, while he wears dark colors. They also look somewhat like the actors on ROP, especially Wulf with Sauron's Halbrand form.

Like Galadriel, she also has 2 older brothers: Haleth, the heir to the throne and a warrior like their father, and Hama, a musician. Galadriel's oldest brother Finrod was actually similar to both of Hèra's brothers.

Hèra's father Helm Hammerhand is the King of Rohan, similar to how Galadriel's father is one of the elvish kings in Valinor. Helm also notices how his daughter is very head strong and more like her brothers, and grows to respect that. One of Galadriel's older names Nerwen means "man maiden" and she was described as being the same, athletic (both projects have them climbing icy mountains), and excellent with horses.

The people of Rohan are descended from the Númenóreans which this movie seems to suggest they've inherited things from Elros, Elrond's twin brother who were part man, elf, and Maiar. Helm and Haleth seem to have superstrength, Hama is not only a skilled musician but archer, and Hèra's own character, warrior like nature, and personality came across more elvish to me too and she ends up being able to get help from the eagles.

Now with Wulf he's from the wild men that lived on Middle Earth before the Númenóreans came, or the Southlanders as they called them in ROP. He, as well as Haleth and a few other characters have the same accent Halbrand has, or Northern English.

Because of this Wulf and his people are made to feel less than, which is why Wulf's father Freca partly wanted to marry Wulf and Hèra to unite their peoples (but Freca also wanted to take over).

This difference is also pointed out because Helm was going to marry off Hèra to a prince from Gondor, which not only angered Wulf and his father, but Hèra herself as she had no idea of it. Reminded me of how Galadriel's husband Celeborn is a prince from Doraith.

Wulf's also influenced first by his father and then General Targ to seek vengeance, which twists him similar to Sauron when he was Mairon and turning his back on the Valar to follow Morgoth.

Unlike Sauron though Wulf actually tells Hèra that he loves her multiple times. He's been in love with her since they were kids, so it started from a natural and good place but sadly it turns toxic as he gets eviler.

Like the elves too Hèra comes across as being asexual, likely demisexual, which a lot of the elves, Maiar, and Valar seem to fit that. They usually only fall in love once or twice, and some even decide to never marry. I feel Hèra fits into this as I feel she did care for Wulf, especially how he used to be and with her trying to find him when he disappeared. I do feel if what happened between their fathers never happened, which started Wulf's downward spiral and the war, that their childhood friendship would've turned into love. He already loves her, and I feel with time she would've realized she loves him too. Sadly, it just never happened.

At one point Wulf kidnaps Hèra and proposes to her a 2nd time, similar to how we thought a scene with Haladriel was going to happen. She pretends to accept at first (similar to Galadriel in the season 2 finale with Nenya) but then Wulf realizes she's lying and cuts her on the face with his sword. She actually accidentally cut him on the face when they were kids and he claimed it marked him for her, so he left a mark on her too. This also happened with the crown wound in the season 2 finale with Haladriel.

After the cut and fight Hèra jumps out of the building similar to Galadriel jumping off the cliff. Wulf lets her go for now knowing they'll battle again soon.

Sadly, like Galadriel both of her brothers are killed by Wulf and his men. Galadriel's brothers all died during The War of Wrath by Sauron and his forces. Unlike Wulf, Sauron actually apologized for it in season 1.

Then the final fight at the renamed Helm's deep Hèra saves the people of Rohan by going out to face Wulf alone knowing he'll only be focused on her. Galadriel also helped the people of Eregion escape before facing Sauron in the s2 finale.

During this fight (which is pictured above) she wears an old wedding dress which angers Wulf as he mentions it was supposed to be them marrying instead of fighting. Reminded me of how in the show ROP we see Nenya as being the engagement ring Sauron (with Celebrimbor's help) made for Galadriel and she keeps it. Wulf is also wearing her father's crown, like how Sauron had Morgoth's crown in the show.

Then the line she says when Wulf asks her who she's marrying then if it's not him and she replies "Death". LOL Obviously Galadriel still ends up with Celeborn but that line was fantastic as I could see her saying it too to Sauron.

There's a moment in the fight too where it looks like Wulf is going to surrender and become prisoner. You can tell this is the ending Hèra wants as she still cares for him and hopes he can repent and redeem himself. Sadly, he tricks her and it's clear he's gotten rid of his goodness and only death can stop him.

After he dies you can see her sadness at losing him too along with almost all her family. Now for Sauron we know there was a chance he could still be redeemed after everything with him and Galadriel being immortal and that Tolkien was going to write Morgoth coming back in Dagor Dagorwrath. They all were supposed to unite to defeat Morgoth for the final time. So, there's always a hope that Sauron will be redeemed and that there's still a chance there for him and Galadriel, unlike here where both characters will die human deaths with unknown afterlife fates.

The ending too had a slight similarity as Gandalf contacts Hèra, now a shieldmaiden in her cousin's kingdom, to help assist him as she saw two orcs looking for rings for Sauron. So, it was a nice connection there and I love that Hèra is involved in the War of the Ring somewhat, which leaves it open a bit that she could be included in future projects for either anime or the live-action movies, and what we're seeing the show play out too.

Respectfully asking for anti-Haladriels to stay the fuck out of our tags please. Wether it's to promote your Sauron or Galadriel x OC/Elrond/whoever fic or just for the sake of sharing your negative opinion on the ship, just, please, don't use our tags to do that.

Shitting on the ship using the tags usually used by shippers isn't going to go the way you think. Nobody's going to stop shipping Galadriel and Sauron because you, a stranger on Tumblr, will whine that Sauron "can't love" or that "it's abusive !" in our tags.

As far as I'm concerned, it'll only get you an instant block, and I'll keep shipping them. I can't speak on others' behalf, but I personnally don't give a fu*k about your opinion. I'm a grown ass woman who knows exactly what she signed up for lol

You're tired of seeing Haladriel posts all the time? Honestly, I GET IT : I rarely ship myself, and I often found very annoyed at the fans of a fiction I like because they reduce everything to one ship... So yeah, I completely understand that it can be annoying. But here's a solution I found :

It's very easy to do, you'll probably see a certain number of grey boxes appearing on your dashboard because, well, there are many Haladriel related posts. But believe me, it's better than feeling that you've got some sort of "mission" to tell shippers that they're wrong and delusional to ship Galadriel and Sauron. It's not going to work, alright? Just put it in your head, once and for all. It's not going to work. Nobody's going to stop because you'll have clogged our tags with your anti rhetoric.

You want to feel free to moan about Haladriel... do it your heart's content, but please don't use our tags to do that ! It's just... basic fandom etiquette.

P.S: Of course the same courtesy should be asked from Haladriel shippers... Don't use others ships' tags to shit on said ship. Idk, it's the bare minimum of courtesy to let people enjoy fiction the way they want to do it.

Well this is the final chapter and instead of a snippet I just wanted to leave a comment on my overall thoughts on writing this fic.

Well, I can’t believe I actually did it! This is my first ever fic and it has turned into my longest after almost two years. While there are elements of this story I could imagine continuing, I felt that I wanted a solid conclusion and this was a sort of novel length point to end it. It was important to me that Ereddâz's journey had a satisfying ending for him. If you couldn’t tell, there’s elements of this character that are deeply personal to me and only became more so as the fic went on. I am grateful to have met this character and gone on this journey with him and at times it was very cathartic to some personal things I had going on. I hope I was true to the character though.

I truly had a great time writing this fic. It was a joy for me and I did feel proud of a lot of what I have written. Sometimes I think certain parts could’ve been better or I had other ideas that would’ve been cool but ended up on the cutting room floor so to speak. But overall this was such a memorable experience.

I’ll never forget the support and pseudo beta reading by my friends in the Saurondriel and Haladriel discords. In fact it was encouragement from one of those discords that I decided to actually put myself out there and write my first ever fan fic with zero experience in a community that I barely knew. That person said something like “your voice matters and we can use your contribution to the fandom” (paraphrasing). I can’t describe how encouraging those words were to read to get over the initial anxiety I had about writing this story.

Since most of the communities I was in were mostly focused on the Haladriel romance or even the smut side of things I did feel a bit on the outside having a very subtle Haladriel element while focusing on this Rings of Power AU story about Orc civilians. I think those fears disappeared after I started writing it for myself in a way AND then I continued getting all those lovely comments and kudos from all you readers here and on ao3. THANK YOU, your interest and appreciation definitely motivated me to come this far and finish it. Let me know what you think. Any constructive criticism is also appreciated!
