Chapter Preview/Summary:

Oh!” Yavanna exclaimed, taking a seat at the breakfast bar with her own plate as heard the question. “I know it’s short notice — I meant to talk to you about it last night but the time got away from us. You absolutely don’t have to come if you don’t want to!”

Galadriel could feel Halbrand willing her to reject the offer. It was short notice, but it was incredibly sweet for her to offer; she would have had to call the spa to tell them they were expecting one more person and on such short notice. “That sounds lovely, thank you!” She turned her head to kiss Halbrand on the cheek before he could protest. “You’ll survive, I promise.”

He sighed. “Well, I suppose I’ll have to, won’t I?” He said cheerfully, loudly enough for them to hear. As their attention moved away, he paused to whisper in her ear. “I’ll be collecting on that with interest later.”

Galadriel heard the promise and felt it down her toes, and smiled as she took another sip of her orange juice. “Promises, promises,” she murmured, giving him a wink of her own as he passed.

Work Summary: He turned towards her, frowning. “My family’s 4th of July picnic is tomorrow, and my cousin Melian’s engagement party is the day after. We talked about it this morning. Weren’t you listening?”

She had been listening, but she had never heard an invitation, and told him as much. “I heard you complain for over an hour about your family, and how you were very much looking forward to leaving it before you’ve even arrived. I don’t recall an invitation being mentioned. Besides, I have plans.”

“What, to sit here by yourself on a holiday, for a whole week?” he snorted, giving her a disparaging look. Part 2 in the ‘And They Were Roommates’ ‘verse. Halbrand is quiet when he returns, his footsteps light like a cat’s. If it hadn’t been so hushed to begin with she wouldn’t have heard him until he sat next to her on the edge of the sofa. He touches her face as she opens her eyes.

“You look good there,” he says. “Are you tired?”

She is, she is tired to the bone, but that has never stopped her before. She’d always wanted Celeborn more when the lines between day and night were blurred, and they were less the sum of their responsibilities and idiosyncrasies and more just living things moving about in the world. 

Halbrand is vital and alive, his fingers cold from the outside but his face flushed. The sound of him playing is still in her ears. She wouldn’t be able to sleep, until it’s silenced.

“No, I’m not tired.”

Here is my gift for the wonderful @shady-swan-jones as part of the Secret Sindar Gift Exchange 2024! I hope you enjoy what I came up with!

Summary: Galadriel goes after a huge opportunity - the chance to interview Halbrand Smith, supposed heir to the Southlands' throne.

She knew it'd be tough, trying to convince him to wear the crown whilst also finding a way to get her own mission across.

He wasn't interested in returning to his people, seeing no hope, not even for himself. He knew this interview would be painful.

But what neither of them expected, was to feel how they do about each other from the moment their paths crossed.

“You want to back out, don’t you?” “Please don’t ask me that. I’m here, aren’t I?” “I’m not sure how much of you is here, Halbrand.” She got up and took the seat beside him. “I need you all in on this. Please. There’s quite a lot riding on this story, more than you care to realise I’m sure.” His eyes shifted down a moment, before flicking back up to meet her own. She nearly gasped for the pain she saw within them. “You’re forcing me to face things about the one place I swore never to return. This isn’t easy.” “I never said it would be.” “Easy is running. Which is what I’ve always done. And life has been fine for me because of it.” “But don’t you want more? Don’t you want to at least get this pain off your chest, your shoulders? Share your burden with the world? What you get in return might come back tenfold.” “What about what you get, huh?” Halbrand turned the conversation onto her. Galadriel hesitated, choosing the right words. “I’m doing my job. That’s it.” Halbrand scoffed, not entirely convinced, though he decided not to push things. Save it for the interview. “Then I hope they pay you well for it.”
