Tristan " she has her way some of her gossip has been sen here, day or weeks later" the butler soon handed you the column and soon left right away saying nothing else.

Dearest gentle readers,

It has come to this writer's attention after some investigation on my part, and whispers of others that the Lady y/n and Mr Tristan have been, victims of hurtful rumors of the ton. The awful gossip about Lady y/n has been proven to be misunderstandings and Greedy mamas, her relationship with Lord Christian son had ended on good terms as the man had feeling for other women confused to y/n who told him to follow his heart which he had done. The awful gossip of her flirting with other man has been false, as it was told she was talking about sports among the man that sparked her interest along with talking about other young ladies on marriage market. It seems like lady y/n was being helpful after seeing, previous years of marriage season. The only thing she had been reward by others was gossip by the ones she tried to help, and being outcast by ton society. Her meetings she had attended with older women of the ton were nothing nut friendly, finding ways to help London society for all the classes. Now regarding Mr Tristian it seems like all the news we had heard about him, had been made by his jealous no good cousin and no classmate, who which to bring down the young man from his life and standing. It seems like ton society had succeed on breaking the young lady and young man, as lady y/n had been sent away from her home by her own brother the viscount Bridgerton. It has been brought to my attention that viscount had some not good words, towards his sister that had been spoken by his other siblings as well.

Sadly the poor lady y/n had been report to leave that evening to help rebuild her family reputation, and not to ruin any of her family future of marriage and life. There have been some reports she had left that evening to stay at family friend home, and leave in the morning but it has been also two years since we have last seen the young lady after she was sent far far away from the place she called home . I myself feel sorrow for the young pair as they have been surrounded, by hypocrites from the Bridgerton family if we look back on their love stories along with many of other houses of the ton. Now we look towards lady y/n sister Eloise Bridgerton who been now facing the same fate of her big sister ever soon, will we be seeing Eloise leaving as well and never seeing her along with her sister ever again. The only thing that this author hopes is that lady y/n has been able to find some goodness, in her life far from the Ton. It seems like the shame should be on us all, for the treatment we had done on young pair let hope we never make the same mistake again.

Tristian “ it will be good to have more family in this house, as it seems like we have lacked in kids ourselves”

y/n “ family will come soon for the both of us, my dear husband now let’s tell the staff of our trip so we can get our affairs in order”

Tristian “ yes my love” The staff leaders had been called and told of the news, plans were made right away for the trip back to London. as You had sent word to your sister and lady danbury as you read over the, newest lady whistle down report.

y/n " I think I found out who lady Whistle down and I'm proud of her" you knew who was lady whistle down and smiled, as for ready to leave Scotland back to London. The couple left the next morning after speaking with their friends and the provinces leaders, as well everything was good and everyone wish them luck.

Tristian " are you ready to face everyone again"

y/n " yes I'm ready to face them as the new me and having you by my side, will make everything better" Tristan had nodded his head as the pair took off towards London, to facing everyone after being gone for so long. Some of the reunions will be heartwarming while others will be ice cold. The ton should be ready to face the new viscountess and viscount, because they are no longer the same individuals everyone had outcast as they were ready for defend themselves. The ton had thought lady whistle down had ripped them a new one, they had yet to see that couple had prepared for them. A new life does make a new person.

The forest, once a place of solace and beauty, now echoed with the tension of their desperate escape. The leaves, a vibrant tapestry of autumn hues, rustled ominously as the wind picked up, mirroring the turmoil in their hearts.

Genevieve, her once regal demeanor now marked by fear, clung to Nehemiah's arm. "Nehemiah," she whispered, her voice barely audible, "I fear for our safety. Philip will stop at nothing to reclaim me."

Nehemiah, his heart heavy with worry, gently cupped her face. "Fear not, my love," he reassured her, his voice steady. "I will protect you. Always."

A flicker of hope ignited in Genevieve's eyes as she smiled weakly. She pulled away, her gaze fixed on the path ahead. Nehemiah, lost in the comforting warmth of her touch, didn't notice the approaching footsteps until a voice shattered the tranquility of the forest.

"Nehemiah!"

He whirled around, his heart pounding. Sir Tristian, a once-trusted friend, stood before him, accompanied by another guard. A grim smile played on Tristian's lips. "Come with me, Nehemiah," he offered, his voice laced with a sinister undertone. "No one will get hurt."

Nehemiah's blood ran cold. "You think I would surrender so easily?" he challenged.

Tristian chuckled. "No, that's why I came prepared."

As if on cue, the other guard stepped forward, a sword pressed against Genevieve's throat. A wave of terror washed over Nehemiah as he realized the gravity of the situation.

"Let her go!" he roared, his voice filled with rage.

"Don't worry, our King wants her alive," Tristian replied nonchalantly. "But you, Nehemiah...well, that's a different story."

A fierce battle ensued, the clash of swords echoing through the trees. Nehemiah fought with a desperation born of love and fear, his every move fueled by the desire to protect Genevieve. With a swift, decisive strike, he disarmed Tristian, leaving him wounded on the forest floor.

Turning his attention to the guard holding Genevieve captive, Nehemiah lunged forward, rescuing his beloved from the brink of danger. With a swift, merciless blow, he ended the guard's life.

Panting heavily, Nehemiah turned to Genevieve, his eyes filled with relief and love. "We must hurry," he urged, his voice barely a whisper. "Philip will send more men."

Together, they fled into the depths of the forest, their hearts pounding in unison, their future uncertain, but their love unwavering.

Terrible Fic Idea #55: Harry Potter, but make it Roaring Twenties

In what is possibly my most terrible idea yet, I've been contemplating all those HP fics which insist that if only Tom Riddle had been raised correctly, he'd never have become Voldemort - or would have at least gone about his goal in a more sane fashion. I tend to agree with this idea, as the idea that anyone is born evil seems incredibly naive.

Yet if I was a time traveler desperate to save my society, I don't know if I could take that same position - yes, I sincerely believe that no one is born evil, but am I willing to risk the future on the chance I'm wrong? Or: what if a female!Harry Potter traveled back to the 1920s to prevent Tom Riddle's birth?

Just imagine it:

Female!Master of Death!Harry Potter has witnessed the end of British Wizarding society. Voldemort is not solely at fault for it - magic has been declining for generations, as Dark and Light become unbalanced, but he definitely speeds the process along. Hyacinth (as we shall call her moving forward) decides to travel back in time to 1925 with the intent to prevent Voldemort's birth, which should hopefully provide Wizarding Britain time to restore the balance.

Hyacinth takes on the identity of 16-year-old Hyacinth Peverell, the only survivor of a fire at the Peverell Estate - and thus heiress to a grand fortune, but for the moment in the care of her paternal grandmother's brother, a retired professor living in Greater Hangleton.

The Riddles, being rampant social climbers, encourage Tom Riddle Sr to get close to her - which she somewhat bemusedly allows on the basis that keeping this Riddle close will prevent Merope from getting the chance to drug him with love potion.

(Not, of course, that Merope is around anymore. A quick spell or two saw Marvolo and Morfin kill each other off in a "drunken" altercation and the underage Merope taken away by the Ministry. But Hyacinth is covering all her bases.)

Meanwhile, Tom Riddle does his best to seduce Hyacinth Peverell, which results in the pair being wed in early 1926 and a pregnancy announced not long after.

On December 31, 1926 Hyacinth gives birth to their son - Thomas Tristian Riddle. Though it takes Hyacinth a few months to realize it, her son bears the soul of Voldemort from her original timeline, with his memories largely locked away until he's old enough to process them, circa 7-11 years old.

This is originally where I thought of ending a short one-shot... but then I thought, why not lean into the unhealthy, creepy element that would surely arise between a Voldemort obsessed with a witch who was once his prophesied downfall and who is now his loving mother? I'm not just talking codependent here but full-on Electra Complex, with a heavy layer of Child Supplants Parent directed toward Tom Sr for abandoning Merope in the original timeline.

Hyacinth becomes pregnant with a daughter in 1931? She's suddenly widowed when Tom Sr dies in a car crash with his mother. Tom Sr's father makes a drunken pass at Hyacinth while morning his wife and son? He's found to have committed suicide a few days later, leaving Tom Jr heir to his estates. Hyacinth gives birth to a daughter, Daphne? Well, Tom Jr restrains himself to keeping most of his mother's attention on him, but the threat is always there.

For added terrible fic factor, Hyacinth should be aware of what her son is doing and subtly encouraging it, having been almost as obsessed with Voldemort in the original timeline as he was with her and not realizing how much she'd miss her beloved enemy after he was gone. Perhaps she should have even ensured she'd get pregnant with Tom Jr at the precise time he would have been conceived originally, having decided that she couldn't bear not to have him in the world despite that being her whole raison d'etre for coming to the past. Hell, perhaps her whole marriage to Tom Sr should be a way of trying to fill the void Voldemort left in her life to begin with.

That's all I really have - just the idea that what could have been a very creepy one shot could easily evolve into an incredibly creepy full-length fic depending how hard one wants to develop and explore the layers of obsession and unhealthy mother-child relationship. Depending on how twisted you make Tom Jr as a child with a whole soul and Hyacinth after how many centuries of being the undying Master of Death in a dying magical world... well, there's a lot of room to play.

Bonuses include: 1) Tom Sr's father being the result of an affair between his mother and Marvolo Gaunt's father. He's unaware of the relationship, but it's enough for that thread of magical heritage to pass down Tom Jr in his new body regardless; 2) While we're at it, let's make Tom Sr's mother the third-generation descendant of a cast-out Black squib; 3) Hyacinth pretending to be your average 1920s upper-class housewife by day while secretly moving through magical circles by night, subtly pushing a pro-Grey, pro-greater secrecy agenda at the great and powerful of the magical world; 4) The suggestion that Voldemort's madness came as much from his muggle father's family as his inbred mother's: Tom Sr's father should express psychopathic tendencies, Tom Sr himself should be something of a sociopath, and Tom Sr's mother should be as much a Black as it's possible to be without magic; and 5) As much I can't believe I wrote this as the author can humanly manage.

i wanna know abt worldbuilding ... please .....

Tbh Saved is one of my off the cuff works, similar to Delinquent. I came up with much of Delinquent in the process of writing + answering questions about it on here and in the comments. Seeing as there is only two chapters of Saved, I don't have much plotted out beyond the initial premise and general plot. I can tell you a few things, however:

- Hero Hopefuls are a dime a dozen. Every young adventurer aims to set out on a journey and be desginated a genuine Hero by the gods.

- Few achieve this, however, as the requirements are almost impossible to discern. No one knows what makes someone qualified. Sometimes renowned adventurers are chosen, and sometimes it's random villagers who have never wielded a weapon in their lives.

- The consensus is that if you are chosen, you want to be experienced and powerful enough to bear the burden of your given Quest - thus Hero Hopefuls exist. The church encourages this and even backs certain Hero Hopefuls for political reasons as do noble families.

- The Quests vary based on the current crisis at the time. Obviously, defeating Tristian would be part of Reeve's Quest 😅

Even so 99% of the time people are just seeing him kick so much ass. He punches like getting hit by a high-speed bowling ball; when he isn't knocking heads, he has a glaive that he is extremely unafraid to use. He is always ready for a fight, even if he isn't actively spoiling for one. His most public persona is also the most intimidating one.

What I'm saying is that other people see Zell as a severely pissed off little man who's just barely holding it in, and they're right.

This track defines a lot of Zell's feelings towards the world at large, but what causes the continuing strife in Mendev in particular (to say nothing of his own upbringing.) So few people recognize how cycles of violence perpetuated by regular ass people are what allows those demons to exist in the first place. His heart breaks because the cycle won't.

*This list's outsider track. I don't feel like I'm being too controversial by saying Siouxie isn't known primarily as a rock artist, am I?

**The way it's described in-game it seems to me that becoming an Azata is a full physical transformation, and I like to headcanon it that way anyhow because Zell deserves to sometimes have nice things. Like a fully living body that doesn't hurt all the time.

***And that someone is Tristian Kingmaker because I like to make myself and my beloved and my favorite OC suffer for the art. :) The real tragedy is that Zell would have given up the road for Tristian, but ultimately Tristian would still end up leaving for Reasons.

****100% a reference to Ralph Bakshi's American Pop but also very thematically appropriate. He spent his teenage years as an unwilling Hellknight recruit, so as you can imagine. It wasn't great, but it was certainly formative.

4. A character you rarely talk about?

Oh, there's a lot(I still love them). Most are from the DA fic(s) I wrote before joining tumblr, and the main one is my beloved canon Warden Rahna Tabris

What was supposed to be a one-shot(maybe two-shot) about the start of her grieving process when romanced!Alistair died killing the archdemon somehow wouldn't stop growing and by the end of it I had 665k for her, spanning four longfics, several oneshots, covering Origin' epilogue scene through Witch Hunt, ft a very slow burn, friends to lovers second chance romance with Jowan. (seriously. I think it took 100k for there to be a hint of actual romance/crushing)

I love her dearly and she is still my canon Warden, but since I spent so long writing her and only her and her story seemed pretty much done at the end of her last longfic, she hasn't really talked to me since I finished. Since that was...6mon-a year after I joined tumblr she's not as "known" as the others. (Also she's the only muse I've written in first person. So that may be a factor in why I haven't written her more😅)

6. Two OCs of yours that look alike despite not being related?

I think Jaaide and Janine would get mistaken for sisters if they were in the same universe(both blonde, they have similar jawlines/cheekbones). Which is ironic bc Jo Wyatt is my "voice claim" for Janine, to make sure I keep her with a consistent speech pattern when I write. xD

22. Is there any OC of yours people tend to mischaracterize? If yes, how?

Not mischaracterize, exactly, but I think I/other people focus more on the sweetheart/goofball side of Vikkari, when he is also extremely badass in a fight, especially after doubling down on his Mythic path after the Abyss(warpriest, man, he can kick your ass with magic OR the huge falchion he's lugging around or both). I think it's a byproduct of me mostly writing downtime scenes where he's joking around with Seelah or being really sweet with Arue(or Etain in that AU). If I wrote him more fight scenes, which I should do since I love writing combat :3, it would be easier to remember.

Jas would have the same theme I do, with sunny yellow background, some cute wallpaper-like art of butterflies as the header image, and a cartoonized/goofy version of her Official Queenly Portrait as her pfp/sidebar image. (green with the aurora borealis as header for mobile) She mostly reblogs inspirational/scriptural quotes, recipes for sweet breakfast and dessert food, and animal pictures. Nature and art for things she likes also make frequent appearances. She also posts a lot just rambling about her day, stuff she saw or did, her family/friends/Tristian(yes he's his own category).

43. Do you have any certain type when you create your OCs? Do you tend to favour some certain traits or looks? It’s time to confess

Definitely like red hair, freckles, and green eyes, though I try to only have one or two of the three per character, not all of them(AJ and Tel have red hair + freckles but blue eyes, Jas and Tragen have red hair/green eyes but no freckles, Endrali and Trinne have freckles, Jaaide has green eyes etc etc) Also brown or grey eyes.

I like making bookworms. I love making siblings sets(*glances at the... five I have in SWtOR*), usually with a good relationship. Snark. Supportive and fiercely protective. There's a lot.

My time with Pathfinder: Kingmaker (P.2)

Heavy spoilers for Pathfinder: Kingmaker below, didn't initially plan on this being a three-part post so apologies for that and any cohesion breaking it causes. My Companions. This'll be a brief overview of the companions and just any general thoughts I had on them and their quests prior to Act Seven, if it seems somewhat disconnected it's because it is.  (The benchwarmers) Starting with Tristian I was never sold on him even before his betrayal. I knew he was beloved among other players but I wasn't interested in romancing him and even with his super useful rest ability both Linzi and my player character largely dealt with any serious buffing or healing I needed. So when it came to his quests? It'd be something I have to revisit as his two stand-out moments are his betrayal and his argument with Jhod during the Bloom. 

On the opposite end of characters, Jaethal was easily the most evil companion, and for someone whose alignment didn't really mesh with my player character on top of her undead status and strangeness when being healed, it largely led me to dismiss her altogether. When in reality her quests were really fascinating, this pull and push of power versus morals with the penultimate build-up being Jaethals rejection of her Deity and being smited for it. When she died it wasn’t a huge blow to my team, but it was shocking with the click of a button she went from standing there to being a stain of blood and at least she redeemed herself? I don’t know if I’ll use Jaethal unless I’m going for some sort of evil playthrough but alignment be damned she was entertaining. 

Moving on, Harrim fell into this odd spot as a companion for me, originally he filled my fifth spot as his blessing buff was useful alongside being another front-line fighter, but the way I specialized him became a significant problem, I’d made him into more of a fighter then a cleric on top of his low Mobility/Dexterity making him quick to die even when buffed to all hell with Blur or other support spells. Making replacing him with Ekundayo an obvious choice, and like his character class I think I largely fumbled whatever story was going on with him. Unintentionally inciting his rage against Torag and leading him down a path of bitter madness, I always felt like I slipped up somewhere along the way, really just unsure of what I should say to someone so entrenched in Groetus. This is more just a gripe but I swear for a high priest even when he was max level he’d always have a low-resolution rate, frankly I don’t know if I ever really want to deal with Harrim again for someone you meet so early on I’m just not a fan of him? The end comes for us all eventually I guess. 

Then we have Nok-Nok, another character who I think I kind of put on ice and shot down a lot of his companion quest ideas just because it was chaotic as all and went against my alignment. Unlike Harrim though Nok-Nok was very fun, and even when he was making problems for me, who can hate a Goblin Jester? He’s someone I definitely plan to use if I ever replay Kingmaker. 

Then we have Jubliost, someone I wasn’t a huge fan of at first, from his snarky attitude to his less than careful world choice his bluntness read almost like a bitter or rude person when in fact by digging into his quests that isn’t true. From his endearing curiosity and motivation to cure the bleaching (a rather debilitating and sad way to go out) while exploring and writing about all he can. When he got so close to his award, I encouraged him to give it to Xae. It only felt right, as her existence as a ghost who could never return to her home was far too sad a fate for someone. I never really used him, on account of me not liking AOE/splash attacks until late in the game alongside not specializing him correctly.

Regongar is the last of the benchwarmers, and he’s kind of tied to the hip with Octavia for a lot of his quests. He's brash but beyond being a tad too flirtatious I never had much problem or desire to get to know him. Hearing about his and Octavia’s roots that’d led them to eventually escape the Technic League and blossom into their independence is what I admire most about him. 

(The main cast) Speaking of Octavia, like Regongar I’m happy she found her roots and was surprisingly able to reconnect with no strings attached, her abilities as a rogue-wizard mix made her into a really good marksman. Ended up probably agreeing with her and Linzi the most on kingdom management issues just because of how progressive they both were on social issues. 

Ekundayo and his wolf are second to Amiri in terms of how useful they were to my team, often nailing his ranger shots for high damage and destroying trolls. Moving on from the past and not letting rage consume yourself is the central idea of Ekundayo’s companion quest and while I wonder if things could’ve been different at the very least he isn’t vengeful or hateful any longer. Elina’s extremely obvious crush on the guy who clearly isn’t ready for romance makes me both sad and hopeful for Ekundayo’s future. Not forgetting Ekundayo’s wolf, half the reason he’s so good is because that wolf of his is the best of tanks and like Elina, Ekundayo has no clue what to do with them. 

Moving onto Amiri, her reconciliation of the past and focus on bettering herself for the future just made her an instant favorite and probably the strongest member of my crew constantly receiving some of the best gear. Her brash and upfront nature makes this really sincere and helpful character that I can’t underpin as anything but great. She isn’t stupid and breaks that idea of a barbarian being an inherent moron with the reforging of her blade as a story of complicated emotions and feelings in a largely sexist traditional group. When said group tries to execute her for being different, the one positive person in her tribe Nilak is a reluctant friend and compatriot. A lot of emotional baggage and tension reveals itself when Amiri first finds the Six Bears tribe in the Stolen Lands and a lot of that tension is only resolved because Amiri cares about Nilak and regardless of how poorly they treated her the ghost tormenting the clan because of her cannot stand in her mind. So, off she goes to confront it ultimately sacrificing herself instead of someone else being resurrected and being awarded for her bravery. Frankly, I doubt there’ll be a campaign of this game without Amiri if I can help it; her companion line is hands down my favorite of the companions. 

Last but not least Valerie, in a strange way, ended up being my favorite companion. With her high AC and tank-like nature always having enemies target and fail to strike her as they ate the party's damage and while her attack strength wasn’t the best if anyone was suited for the job of rushing ahead it was her. Her stoic nature as a fighter and diligent follower of the law is in constant conflict with her proclaimed beauty and past as a child raised to worship Shelyn. It’s a past she wished to not look back on, wanting people to value her as a fighter and person first and foremost not as some artistic piece or muse. It’s upsetting for her when her past demands she returns to face worshippers of Shelyn and artists harassing her because of her beauty. So much so, that when Linzi and others who merely mention art seem to offend and enrage her, intervention is the only thing that can be done. Early on in the game she received a scar after beating a certain obnoxious Shelyn follower in a fight and wore it as a symbol of pride until that pride for said scar turned into a confused mix of resentment and reflection. I think by the end of the companion quest line Valerie ended up better off, Shelyn healing her scar, and the intervention of the Shelyn followers ending as peaceful as one could expect. Valerie seems to find herself and at least find some respect in the pursuit of art. It’s hard to put into words what Valerie’s conclusion as a character was, it’s a complex emotional issue that she struggled with throughout Kingmaker, and it made her a stronger person in the end. I want to begin by apologizing- I suspect you were looking for Tristian, but this is the single BG3 thing that was on the list. Jay, idk where you stand on discourse game of the year, but Ash, I know that you're not a fan and have been working on distance. I'm placing the rest under a cut. You can read it or not read it. Either thing is fine with me.

Still with me? Thank you, I appreciate it!! Let's see to what degree I'm willing to bare my soul before I get too embarrassed and awkwardly trail off.

Ah: DUrge spoiler warning. And content warning: DUrgetash (sorry)

So! The Thousand Mile Fall, something which was only just starting to go beyond planning (and originally planning for a comic) when my laptop committed die. I was really interested in the concept of the Dark Urge as a character who was always framed as having fallen from grace, and who had also fallen from a state of divinity. The liminal state excited me, and we all know how I feel about a horrible someone who's a horrible failure of an angel. Horrible failure of a demigod occupies a similar space. I think the nature of that failure- that fall- began to occupy me quite a bit, since I had a strong concept for Asperia from very, very early on in my playthrough (long before I knew anything besides the DUrge plot besides that they were a Bhaalspawn, even before I had become convinced Kasander and Asperia existed simultaneously) and at the heart of Asperia was someone who was infallible and convinced of their invincibility- maybe rightly so.

So, this story is set only a bit before the game and is meant to unpick the loss of that perfect favor- in my mind, the loss of Asperia's "godhood," something which is stolen twice. The second and definitive loss is of course to Orin in a singular act of violence, but Orin's path to victory was opened by the slow and insidious poison of having known Enver Gortash. In a "the bar is in hell" turn of things, their... acquaintanceship is the closest thing Asperia has ever experienced to a normal relationship and a normal life. And that glimpse of the other side is what unmakes her. It's always been crucial to Asperia's role in the system to be the one who loves being Bhaal's beloved child, who can reconcile anything with belonging, who buys in so fully that it is unthinkable to be less than a god and it is unthinkable to have desires besides those of a god. Others hold the questions, the fear, the other desires- Kasander and Bride especially- but Asperia wants nothing else in life, and Asperia believes with painful, self-destructive fervor.

Asperia has already been acquainted with Gortash for some good while here, the wheels turning in the scheme of the Absolute. This is the longest positive relationship of any kind Asperia has ever had outside of whatever pseudo-parental thing he has with Scleritas, and it has been wonderful: novel, collaborative, a meeting with someone who resembles an equal despite being a mere mortal. Asperia has begun to see other facets of the world through this, to see the ways the world of the living comes together for purposes besides inevitable execution. It's all an act of devotion, all furthering the will of Bhaal, all what Asperia desires and wants to do. But the further it's gone the more it's started to be fun for its own sake too, and a certain fascination with a frenemy has begun to blossom into dangerous fantasies.

Asperia doesn't fantasize. Asperia can't fantasize. Asperia is a god, and he only wants things which are real and deserved. Bhaal's favor is proof of that: Orin's ugly, messy desires make her a worse worshiper, and she's never had their divine father's love. Asperia is Bhaal's beloved. Asperia is defined by her distance from those mistakes. And so too is Asperia the perfect disciple, a being beyond sin. If something is what Asperia wants, then it must be acceptable.

And this is how Asperia begins to lose Bhaal's favor.

Asperia starts the story at a personal high and only rising- with the world at her fingertips and Bhaal's love behind her, she's preparing for the victory lap and has taken an extra prize in becoming more intimately involved with Gortash. But you can't have your cake and eat it too- this impossible personal high the seed of Asperia's ruin, already sown, takes root and begins to grow. Bhaal's perfect killing machine doesn't play house with Bane's Chosen. And there are more than enough people who fucking hate Asperia already and are ready to take note- as well as Gortash himself, so much older and colder than young, sheltered Asperia. There may be some genuine affection there in some form, but calculation and power take precedent, as does the enjoyment of solving this Bhaalspawn puzzle by picking her apart.

Over time the increasingly clear dissonance between the impossible misalignment- the first Asperia has ever experienced- between what they want and what Bhaal allows them to desire and have drives them to spiral into a state of exceptional vulnerability that ultimately allows Orin to usurp them. The escalating stress causes them to lose time more and more frequently, beyond what they can explain away to themself and make disappear, and they begin to doubt themself. To fear what is happening, and to develop their own doubts about Bhaal- things that should live elsewhere, things that cause other parts to bubble up in ways they notice. Asperia is straying and rivals like Orin can see it, is becoming less dependable and reluctant allies like Ketheric can see it, is becoming a less than perfect disciple and that butler shepherd of Bhaal can see it (not that every part was always perfect- Scleritas has always known that "Asperia" is more than just Asperia, and has long pitted Asperia against themself). And Asperia is vulnerable and open and easier and easier to see- and Gortash, who has solved the part of this puzzle Asperia refuses to see quite well, sees it all and drives the spiral deeper. Pulls Asperia closer, and begins to learn the others without letting Asperia know (this is a piece of how Kasander knows Gortash, has known Gortash before anything).

So y'know. It's all heading for inevitable tragedy, heartbreak, ruin, bad feelings, and a tadpole in the head, as well as a shitty asshole boyfriend conspiring with one's sister who has been waiting for ages for the change to REALLY wreck one's shit. Yikes! Feel like not enough was spent on the family drama and that's sold Orin short, but she's played a damn active hand through it all. Sacrificial Orin, always underestimated, always overlooked, always surviving.

I dunno how to conclude this and I feel like I probably talked too long (half just to remember things I can't access until the new laptop arrives and is set up). All in all, just a fun little project to play with while I continue to fail to finish the last teeny bit of the actual goddamn game (I'm the worst at wrapping up the last little dregs of things after I've cleaned up the most fun stuff).

TLDR: Asperia, main character of life, starts to Lose the Plot and gets written out of the story for a little while

hiiii can u please advise me on where to start with reading arthuriana ? i am fascinated by it and love it very much , but i just read arthurian encyclopedias and such … i would like to read actual texts if that makes sense . thank u :-)

!!!!!! don't worry you make perfect sense and i'd absolutely love to give you a few starter text recommendations, i'm going to link ways to read all of them online bc physical copies are uh. incredibly hard to come by for most texts. also, brace yourself for fifty wildly different variants of each name, usually there's some sort of appendix you can read to know who's who, or you can rely on context clues.

first off i legally have to recommend the byelorussian tristan bc it's. kinda a part of my brand. and my favorite book... ever, even outside of arthurian stuff. it's believed to be one of, if not the last entry in the arthurian canon, and certainly in the tristian canon, and it's so good. it's a retelling of a lost slavic text that was a retelling of tavola ritonda, the italian retelling of the prose tristan. it's really well-written and the only version of the tristan and isolde story where they both get to live, highlights include galehalt basically asking tristan to join his marriage (i say marriage in reference to his relationship with lancelot bc theyre kinda. uh. bfs would be an understatement), palomydes having two swords (it's bc he's That skilled at fighting and also bc he's bisexual) as well as lending one of those swords to tristan, galahad briefly showing up to fight tristan and lancelot, then getting embarrassed that he fought his dad and just? dying or something?? and the worst kei name variant out there (geush.....). overall, i have to recommend this one bc if it had been my starter text i know i would have immediately read every medieval text i could find, and bc it's the text that actually made me like tristan.

also i'd like to note that tavola ritonda, the byelorussian tristan's italian predecessor is pretty good if i remember correctly, i never finished it bc i got busy with school stuff but i know i liked what i did read of it and that a lot of arthurian tumblr would recommend it. if i wasn't on green knight lockdown i'd probably pick it back up right now.

other tristan-related recs include chevrefoil by marie de france, it's incredibly short and makes me kinda sad for unknown reasons, it's also what got me invested in tristan and isolde's relationship, strassburg's tristan, yet another text i started and then dropped bc of school related reasons, i remember i liked what i read of it though, trystan and esyllt, a welsh tristan and isolde text which is. incredibly different from the normal tristan and isolde story, but it's short, lighthearted and fun in the way welsh texts are, and uhhhh the prose tristan which i mentioned earlier, i've read the whole thing and it didn't really stand out to me (albeit its been a while) but it's what most people will point you to if you want to get into tristan and isolde.

stepping away from tristan and isolde, there's culwch and olwen, which is believed to be the first arthurian text, it's kinda short and fun in the way that welsh texts always are, it's about this kid whose stepmother cursed him to only be able to marry the daughter of this giant, who will never let her marry bc there's some curse that says he'll die on her wedding day, so the giant gives this giant list of impossible tasks and arthur, culwch, kei and co. set out to do them and only like. 3. are actually mentioned more than once. it's fun and i like welsh kei.

next are the dutch texts which are. so good. they're so good. they're all right here bc i don't feel like linking each different one. my first rec is lancelot and the hart with the white foot, which, despite being named after lancelot, is really about gawaine. it's short and fun and the remarkable (lancelot x gawaine) fans adore it. next is the roman van walewein which is. absolutely off the rails. basically this magic chessboard shows up in arthur's court and walewein (gawaine) has to go after it, he ends up murdering a bunch of people, there's a talking fox who tries to steal gawaine's armor, gawaine gets thrown in his love-interest-of-the-week's torture dungeon, which has a secret tunnel connecting it to said love interest's rooms which she apparently had the arcitect of drowned (which is treated like a perfectly fine and normal thing by the text btw) where they presumably do bdsm or something, gringolet (gawaine's horse) kills a dragon with his hooves, it's wild. then there's walewein ende keye, kei tries to get rid of gawaine, gawaine goes and proves his honor, kei gets banished, gawine's a bit of an unlikable prick in this one but it's entertaining. and then there's morien, it's about this 13 year old who shows up looking for his deadbeat dad and gawaine and lancelot help him out, gawaine hijacks the plot but it gets back to morien by the end, also they have to rescue arthur. there are more dutch texts but these are just my favorites.

this has gotten longer than i originally intended so uhhh there's lanval by marie de france which is short. guinnevere's homophobic but in a funny way.

then there are the big famous ones and why they're bad starter texts, le morte de arthur and sir gawain and the green knight. le morte's giant and in middle english, if you must read it go for a translation, i've heard good things about this one but i haven't read it, overall it's not that good, especially in comparison with the vulgate and alliterative morte, don't read it unless you're already familiar with med lit and really invested in the characters, it's good for the book of gareth and a few short parts but overall kinda eh. as for sgatgk, it's just not a good first gawaine text bc he's so wildly different than he is in literally everything else, here are a ton of translations, it's best to go into it with the point of view that it was his first quest and looking for the themes and symbolism (gawaine fox motif my beloved) instead of the common approach which is looking for the gay kisses bc you'll get a lot more out of it that way.

i'd also like to anti recommend a solid 3/4s of modern arthuriana, especially anything derived from the *nce and f*ture k*ng by th wh*te or the m*sts of av*lon by m*rion z*mmer br*dley bc jfc those two have done. so much harm. to the genre. "modern" works i'd recommend usually tend more towards victorian poetry, highlights including anything by tennyson that doesn't involve tristan and isolde bc he has bad takes on them, but especially his stuff regarding elayne of astolat/the lady of shallot, bedevere, and gareth and lynnette, as well as everything by william morris but especially sir galahad a christmas mystery and palomydes's quest. you can find pretty much any victorian poem on the camelot project so i'm not going to go looking for them. also i've heard good things about ea robinson's poetry. but despite the few good modern works out there, it's best to get rid of all pop-culture based notions of what arthuriana is before you go into the actual canon.

i feel like i'm going to remember at least three texts i left out like an idiot but this has gotten long enough, if you have anymore questions just ask i absolutely love introducing people to arthuriana.
