He was absolutely an enabler and an apologist, but he had more of a grasp of common sense than the Emperor, and knew how to (at least a little) argue with him when something needed doing. Granted, “more common sense than Nasty Neoth” is a low bar, but Malcador cleared it. Sometimes. Now and then. As a treat.

Congress was in the midst of the 2018-2019 shutdown - the longest in its history - which Trump would proudly and repeatedly claim as of his own doing. It also followed the failure, in Republican hands, of a large, drawn out border security package from the previous summer. All of which, again, Senator Bennett points out. And then some!

PROBABLY NOT. thats a pretty controversial message for the gen x audience and showrunners its easier to just not even go into that. and the terrible MIL who makes everybody's life miserable is a common sitcom trope anyway. i do wish linda would stand up to her parents more or they could change and become better people and try to repair the relationship like big bob did but they're both so beyond redeemption tbh. gayle is also kind of terrible but at least she's got severe mental illness and childhood trauma to blame for that. and she's funny
