I am NOT Thank You Notes

Some disclaimers/notes!

These are the thank you notes from the photo book/liner notes of Stray Kids' I am NOT album, as best as I can translate them.

I do not speak much Korean, but I can read the alphabet and know some basic words. I took a picture of each page, scanned it via Google lens, and ran it through Google translate (and other sites as needed). After that, I cleaned up grammar and weird phrasing and sometimes had to go back and manually correct omissions or figure out where typos got mistranslated. It was kinda grueling at times ngl.

I omitted Woojin's notes, as most current Stays would probably rather it be that way, but I chose not to omit mentions of him in the others' notes. What they wrote is what they wrote.

Hyunjin's handwriting was horrific, so sometimes I truly just had to make my best guess at what he even attempted to write. If I got stuff wrong, blame him, not me.

I'm not gonna correct Felix's own English punctuation and grammar, but again, I'm leaving in his mistakes, and they are not my own 😭

Italics indicate parts that were already in English or the Roman alphabet and [brackets] indicate my own notes.

I left in most honorifics they used, including a common shortening of *seonsaengnim, ie teacher, but putting in addendums like "composer" after every composer listed got a bit tedious, so I left those out. Just assume they're being very respectful of everyone unless they're equal or younger in age lol.

You will quickly figure out that they're thanking a lot of the same people, but you get some quirks too, including some familiar names of other JYPE artists!

Hello! I have finally made my official debut! There are so many people who helped Chan come this far, and I am truly, truly grateful! Stray Kids has finally released their debut album!! This is actually one of the least funny jokes I've ever seen, and it will only impact the lives of underpaid service workers. They are the only people generally impacted by peformative shit like this.

The last few years, my aunt has given me a gift card to Bath and Body Works for Christmas which I then use to buy fancy three wick candles because they're on sale and i love candles and i almost never treat myself. Which I'm trying to get better at! But it's a process.

This year the mall was absolutely packed, so, once I'd picked out my candles, one floral and one piney, I had to wait in line. Not a big deal. It's my day off and I'm at the mall buying candles. I can absolutely wait. But while waiting, I noticed the bottom of one of the candles, the containers of which are glass, was broken. Not falling apart, but it absolutely looked like someone dropped it and put it back without telling anyone. I didn't want something broken, so I went back and got another one, but held onto the broken one to give to the cashier.

By the time I got to the cash, I lost my earlier spot because I stepped out of line, the cashier looked haggard but smiled nonetheless as she rang my purchases through. The smile faded, though, when I handed her the broken candle and explained that the container was considerably cracked.

She was incredibly apologetic and asked if I needed her to get me a new one, to which I told her I'd already grabbed another one.

I don't know how many emotions she went through, but she eventually settled on a very surprised: "You're just giving it to me because it's broken?"

"Yeah. I figured it was better to bring it to you instead of leaving it out on the shelf."

Again, a weird wave of emotions followed by the most heartfelt thank you I've ever received from a stranger. All because I didn't want someone to potentially hurt themselves on the broken glass or have the poor staff get yelled at for having a broken product on the floor.

I don't know what kind of day she was having (Boxing Week is the worst, so I can't imagine it was going great), but I've worked retail and I will always do everything in my power to make retail workers jobs easier. And I will ALWAYS judge someone who doesn't treat people in service roles with respect. Because fuck me it's an awful job.

Something I really appreciate about the team (mostly Eliot though,) is how much they have respect for "the little guy."

As somebody who works retail (I'm not complaining,) it's sometimes hard to work. A lot of people treat me and my co-workers like garbage because of things we have no control over. (Mainly because of Store policy or inventory or just because I/ we can't please them.) And I know there are other jobs that have it worse. Waiters/waitresses, teachers, maintenance, oil riggers, basically any job that doesn't make billions is frowned upon.

It's just nice to see characters having respect for the "little people." You don't see that often in shows.

HE INFLICTS THE TRAINING UPON HIMSELF AND DIASOMNIA HAVE NO FUCKING IDEA ABOUT IT

He hears about Yuu complaining about how their world treats like. Fast food and retail employees and says "their job is literal HELL i dont know how they do it! everyone should treat them with respect" and he's like "HMMM A PERFECT WAY TO TRAIN MYSELF!!!"

So, during winter break, he takes up a job in both a fast food place and a retail store. Alright, hold up right there. Hey. You, the one reading this. Search up "jolibee worker uniform." Yeah. That's right. That's what he's wearing in the fast food place that is unrelated to Jolibee. Yeah.

Everyone in the Not Jolibee thinks he's a PAIN to work with because he does not get how these customers can end your entire career with a single recording. Either he's too loud, or he judges a customer's order, etc.

His boss sets him aside for a bit and goes "customer is always right bla bla bla" and what he doesnt know is that. Sebek treats any higher authority's words as LAW. So his performance suddenly SKYROCKETS and everyone else realizes "oh shit bro he's just a fucking puppy man. a little guy. if a customer starts telling him to refund their order he's going to refund their order now oh shit"

These guys have to work together to make sure that Sebek doesn't fall victim to sleazy customers and Karens. Except Karens have no effect on Sebek because anything they say goes over his head. "I'd like to speak to your manager!!!" "MY MANAGER IS BUSY, BUT I CAN SET UP A TIME AND PLACE FOR YOU!!!"

They get so put off by him that they leave. Everyone cheers. Sebek is now their Karen-repellant.

Anyways, Sebek gets whiplash from working in a retail store because there are NO uniforms to follow after. At best you just have to present yourself nicely. But not a single worker in Twisted Wonderland follows this rule because they just dress the aesthetic of their store. So, naturally, Sebek feels the need to follow after them too.

...did I mention that he works in Not Claires. Yeah, imagine that. Put their aesthetic onto Sebek. Yeah, YEAHHH.

Across from Not Claires is the Scorching Point (Totally not the twst equivalent of Hot Topic), and these two stores have NEVER interacted with each other. Imagine their surprise when he enters Not Claires instead, asking for the job. Someone from Scorching Point faints. Before he actually does any work one of the Not Claires employees suggest that he dress up like them for the appeal and to fit in with the general look of the store. Sebek says that he will.

Everyone has NO expectations for what Sebek is going to wear because bro literally went inside a mall looking like he goes there to window shop for household appliances only for their jaws to drop when he comes in with his hair down and decked out in PASTELS (He asked for help from Riddle who asked for help from Cater because "Sebek what the fuck is a Not Claires what is that"). Sebek had to be FORCED by Cater to style his hair down btw

And the thing is!!! Even if he works at Not Claires he ALWAYS goes over to Scorching Point on and off his shifts. Talks to this specific girl for some reason. Everyone else ignores it. The second week that Sebek's been there, a Scorching Point employee finally walks up to the Not Claires girl who always mans the cashier and asks for her number.

A bridge has been made between the two retail stores, carried by two lesbians and the green haired kid they like to gush about their crush to.

It’s easy for him to get the position of a manager because he’s patient, understanding, and overall good at his job. He’s fine with your questions and doesn’t mind you going to him for help. If you don’t ask him things, he’ll check on you every once in a while.

When customers are upset just send them his way. He’s able to keep his composure and can handle whatever they try to throw at him. Even if you did make a mistake he doesn’t let them treat you horribly. Things happen and you’re human.

He’s there to make money, not friends. He doesn’t go out of his way to be rude, but he makes it clear that he doesn’t want you interrupting his work. Don’t talk his ear off while he’s stocking because he’ll report you. Since he’s been there longer, punctual, and a great worker, you’ll be fired if he goes to them more than once. Try talking to him when he’s on break.

If you annoy him while he’s at work he doesn’t help you out when a customer is upset. He finds amusement in your tears and frustration. It doesn’t help that his laugh can be heard from the other aisle. If you’re respectful of his boundaries he’ll ask the customer what they’re trying to do and take it from there.

Due to his stocky build, and how his coworkers act around him, the customers assume he's the manager. Even if they’re upset they avoid escalating the problem because of his stern resting face. His boss offers him the role of a manager but he refuses to take it. Muto doesn't want all the responsibilities that come with it. He wants to clock in and out.

He isn't social at first, but he gradually gets used to having conversations with you. He isn't shy, he just didn't think he’d like any of his coworkers.

❀Ran❀

He wants the job, it's easy, and the pay is good compared to the stores around him. The customers are the only setback. As a cashier, it‘s impossible to avoid rude, entitled people and he isn't one to persevere and let them say anything they want. And the customers hate that. He turns off his light when they start getting an attitude and tells them to go to the next lane, but if he’s the only cashier, he’ll just refuse to check them out even after they apologize.

He can be chatty, but he can take a hint. If you aren’t in the mood for it he’ll stop, but that never happens because he is unintentionally a gossip boy. He isn’t afraid of his coworkers hearing him spread their secrets or embarrassing moments. After seeing others fail to shut him up, they just take it in stride.

❀Manjiro❀

He doesn’t talk to anyone. The only time he’s speaking is when a customer asks for help. They’re nice to him because he looks younger than his actual age, but sometimes he does encounter rude ones. Rather than kick them into their graves, he just walks away and gets back to stocking. They can find someone who cares.

Please don’t try to talk to him. He isn’t gonna budge and he’s not taking food from you since he doesn’t know you. After the umpteenth time, he’ll be brutally honest and say the thought of being friends with a coworker doesn’t excite him. He’ll mention how he finds it irritating when you refuse to accept that not everyone wants to be your friend. Your stories of home make playing in traffic seem fun.

He's on his phone if it's a slow day since it means he won't have a lot of customers to check out. He doesn't mind if you want to chat, he loves talking about current movies and giving you new things to watch. His favorite thing to do is debate on which character was the strongest or fucked up. It never ends up being a serious debate, it’s all fun and games.

After dealing with his brothers, there’s nothing any customer can say that hurts him. With all the back and forth through the years, he knows how to end the arguments. It’s entertaining and cool how he treats it like a game, he’s often caught with a little smile on his face after the altercations.

Since you’re his new friend, he isn’t gonna let them talk to you any kind of way. Even if it happens to be your manager. He doesn’t care for the saying, I can’t stand up for you unless you do it yourself. People get inspired and find their voice when they see that they have someone in their corner.

RANT/TED TALK ABOUT CONSENT BC MY TWO BRAINCELLS CAME TOGETHER AND PRODUCED A THOUGHT

to start off, a comprehensive list of people who do and don't get baby-talked to (that for some reason get baby talked to a lot) IN MY OPINION:

Who shouldn't be baby-talked to: toddlers (age 2) preschoolers (age 3-5) school age children (age 6-12) teenagers people with physical/mental disabilities/neurodivergent people retail workers fast food workers "unskilled" laborers anyone above the age of 36 months really

Who should be baby-talked to: babies. really young toddlers (12-24 months). pets. cats in particular all animals actually. all animals get baby talk

imo if they can understand and respond back to me with yes or no, i treat them like i treat anyone else. sure i sanitize it for anyone under the age of 12 or so and keep it pg-13 for anyone under 18, but all in all if they are old enough that they can nod or shake their head when i ask a question, i treat them like a tiny adult, which is essentially what they are.

imo if they can answer yes or no, i always ask consent for things i would ask consent from adults for. being under 18 doesn't mean you automatically can't give permission FOR CERTAIN THINGS! (I CANNOT STRESS THIS ENOUGH THEY CAN GIVE PERMISSION FOR CERTAIN THINGS I HAVE TO SPECIFY THIS BECAUSE THERE ARE CREEPS AND WEIRDOS WHO THINK THAT THEY CAN GIVE CONSENT TO DO THE 18+ TANGO AND THEY CAN'T) i ask the small ones who can be picked up (usually 4 years and younger) if they want to be picked up, i ask permission to touch from the small ones when i help clean them up or change them (usually from a water/art activity that got all over their clothes), and i ask permission from anyone in the school age or teen centers for permission before any kind of physical touch that isn't initiated by them

imo children are much more perceptive than most people give them credit for, and if you treat a child with the same respect you give to other adults, they will respect you a lot more than they respect the adults that baby talk them. like sure you're five but i'll give you the same respect and attention i'd give the cashier at the grocery store! (actually now that i think about it, people who disrespect grocery store cashiers are usually the same people who treat teenagers like they're little kids)

Small rant:

I really hate the meme (and variations of) "Treat waiters nicely because they are not your servants!"

Here's what's wrong with that.

1. A waiter literally is a type of servant. They wait on you. That's the job title. A servant is one who serves you. They are literally your temporary servant. That's what the title "Waiter" means.

2. The meme is trying to be kind to waiters but it treats anyone considered "servant" as a lesser that probably should or could be abused. The term servant entails all housekeepers, receptionists, grounds keepers, janitors, and, yes, waiters. "Service industry" comes from "servant" or "to serve."

3. Servant and slave are not interchangeable terms. One is a chosen, paid, profession. And guess what? Many professional valets, or butlers (yes, they still exist) retire in wealth and hire their own staff later in life. You get good money in some of those jobs.

4. All workers, including retail staff, should be treated with kindness and respect. Don't demean one job title to lift up another.

That "They are not your servants" meme is not only wrong, it's an hypocrisy and should have died years ago.

Why do Radfems treat sex work differently from other dehumanizing jobs?

Disclaimer right from the getgo: I don't believe sex work is ethical nor am I arguing for why it is. Hypothetically, if men were magically going to destigmatize the prostitution they enjoy and treat everyone with respect and also respect consent from sex workers then maybe, but that's a distant land from now.

Also I don't know a lot about radical feminist theory, I just follow a bunch of radfems since I like listening to different perspectives.

But why is sex work different from other unethical, dehumanizing jobs that compromise bodily autonomy. I think surrogacy is the only comparable job that radfems talk about in the same tone as sex work.

But a lot of jobs are unethical. Wage labor is often underpaid and requires you to put your health on the line. I worked at an elementary school where there was lead in the water and no one cared.

A lot of jobs force you to endure humiliating behaviour. Retail and customer service (often jobs heavily tilted towards female employees). Or being a clown. Is being a clown not real work?

A lot of jobs force you to put your body on the line. Being killed is an active part of the job of being a soldier, or a security guard officer, or a police officer (although I think we should get rid of those). Or an oil rig worker or a sailor on the north sea.

I guess a big part of it is the risk for pregnancy since sex work is the only job that forces you to risk creating life. But does that mean that sex work could hypothetically be more ethical if it was restricted to same-sex customers? Is working as a male prostitute more ethical?

Is it something that is emergent from the confluence of all these factors that is unique? If so, why is it emergent?

Not looking for a debate, would just like to hear thoughts.
