♦ What was a mildly annoying thing that has happened to you rp wise?
((A ex RP partner had REALLY bad grammar and had English as their first language. They one time wanted people to correct them on their errors, so one time when I was really struggling with their grammar, I politely corrected them on their grammar in their url being wrong.. And they replied 'I don't really fucking care.'
I dropped them after that... Cuz it just felt like they didn't care about their writing at all and it gave me mixed signals that they say they wanted people to correct them on their grammar and then reply to me like that.

★—sc. / @ama-tcra-su LATE NIGHTS. the moon settling in the sea of ink — specks of immaculate white as the shepherd trailed back home. five sessions today. he told the last one to return sooner tomorrow so they could talk in - depth about their newly emerging epithet. still, dr. sylvester ashling's week has been nothing but a haze.
he carried nothing with him but a light bag of crisps, something to tie himself over. could he finish it, though ? GROGGY teal eyes behind yellow - framed glasses, and that hot bean juice scent on his mouth, was hiding a CLOUD of sleepiness that wracked his body. the boy was PULLED in and out of it. ( his mind, it says let go. doze off. ) but he blinked once. twice. he notices . . .
❝ . . . hi ? are you lost ? ❞ . . . a little white dog. a strange looking one. there was a small pound five minutes away from his workplace. did one of them happen to get out ? that's happened a few times. such a small thing. teal irises become a PENDULUM of curiosity, flitting back and forth between the pup and his snack. giving it one or two wouldn't do any harm, right ?
❝ uhm . . . here. ❞ in went his hand to the bag ( at the expense of loud crinkling ), out came a light yellow crisp between two thin fingers, like a playing card. sylvester gently tossed the little chip down to the puppy.
❝ it's not much, but the salt should be low enough to not hurt you. ❞
speaking to it as if it were CAPABLE of doing so. maybe he's been around his sheep a little too much. ( though he won't admit that, why would he ? )
#★—𝐈𝐂.#★—𝐂𝐋𝐎𝐒𝐄𝐃 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐑.#★; For Chibi!!#★; Because I want so badly for Sylvester to meet the little pupper.#// Hope this is ok !! //#ama-trca-su

Week 5: Bird Banding
Prompt: No prompt - write about anything! Welcome back everyone,
Since I have the freedom to write about anything I want, I wanted to talk about my experiences doing research and work with birds! To start off, birds are my passion if not already obvious! They mean a lot to me and are the thing that makes me truly happy. As a kid, I always loved them, and that love has grown more and more as the years have gone on to where I am today.
I was really lucky this summer to be able to start my experience in doing research with birds, where I was learning bird banding and migration monitoring with the TRCA in Toronto. I would wake up at a crisp 4 in the morning to drive down to the park before sunrise - people always gawk at that timing but birds are always up so early, so we have to get there before they do. We head into the park and set up big nets called mist nets - they have large pockets that birds will be caught in when they fly into. We head into the research station and check the nets every half an hour. When we come across a bird caught in our nets, we carefully extract them and place them into bags to be banded. We head back to the station and start the process of giving each bird their own unique ID band and then releasing them.
The purpose of banding birds is to track a lot of things, especially migration. The tags are incredibly unique and only correspond to one singular bird, so if it migrates, you are able to track where it’s been since birds stop to rest while migrating. A lot of data is kept, such as species, age, sex, ID number, the amount of fat they have on their bodies (which can tell us about migration habits), and wing length. We use specialized tools for these, and while stressful, is a harmless process for the birds. Sometimes, other research is tied in as well. When I was volunteering, we were also plucking tail feathers on birds to use in research studying isotopes found in those feathers. This research is used in many ways such as finding breeding grounds of birds, studying diet, immigration of populations, just to name a few.
Banding in general is incredibly important as a science since it is the only way we really know about migration habits. We can learn where they go, how long it takes them to get there, and where they stay over the winter. Especially in modern day, this also heavily contributes towards conservation efforts since songbirds especially have been rapidly declining for decades.
My experience was extremely pleasant and I am happy to continue doing this and being able to teach others about birds and helping others learn in workshops.

During construction, which is due to finish in a few months, beaver, mink, bald eagles, deer and coyote have been spotted in the area. The project also creates a more natural meander to the river, over-turning human attempts to “straitjacket” the river, said Bonnell. But the biggest change is coming to the river itself. In Toronto Regional Conservation Authority’s (TRCA) most recent water quality report card, the most heavily urbanized portion of the Don River scored an “F” for its elevated levels of phosphorus, nutrients, chlorides, salt and e coli, said Sameer Dhalla, director of development and engineering services at the TRCA. Nearly a quarter of Toronto has an outdated system of piping that combines storm runoff with raw sewage, spilling into the river when rain hits the city.

Hey there! No way, I am also from Caledon too, I went to Humberview SS! Small world :)
I can 100% see what you’re saying when you describe Caledon and the way it influenced your initial interest in the outdoors. It has such a whimsy to it, driving through the farm fields just after the sun has gone below the horizon and the contrast between the peachy sky and the bright green fields…..
I wonder if you spent much time at Albion Hills growing up? Or one of the other TRCA parks?
Albion Hills was THE place when I was little, and I spent a lot of time there with 310 Running or taking advantage of their snowshoes in the winter. I remember one time there was an interpreter-lead snowshoe walk, and she pointed out different animal trails and tree species! Have you gone to something like that before? I knew Albion Hills well before participating in that hike, but I was still offered a new sense of place. I didn’t know about the berry bush the overwintering birds liked, or how to tell if a deer had been in the area. I especially didn’t know how active the wildlife were and how common they were to spot (I must have been too loud and scared them all away when I would visit).
You mention you got to address people’s curiosities during your summer jobs (which sound super super cool). I’m wondering if you had a favourite question to answer, or something about the ecosystem you were particularly passionate about explaining?
Will you go back and work a similar job next summer? What would you say to someone who’s starting the job you had last summer, tips on how to make information digestible for people?
I feel like you have some really valuable experience to share throughout this course!
Blog 1: My Relationship With Nature and Sense of Place Within it
Week 1 Prompt: Describe your current relationship with nature. How has this developed/evolved? Who offered you “a sense of place,” as described in our textbook?
I grew up amongst the rolling hills, creeks forests and farms of Caledon Ontario. Since I was young I have always felt connected to nature, and I account this largely to the setting in which I grew up. Instead of street names, malls, houses, shops and recreation centers, my neighborhood was instead conservation areas, farms and undeveloped land. My friends and I would go for long bike rides and hikes and play in the woods growing up. I think this is where my current relationship with nature has had its roots. As time went on I became busy, I trained 22hrs a week as a competitive swimmer, went to a highschool in the city and eventually made my way to the university of guelph. Nature and my time in it got further away. I missed it and have since realized the profound impact it has on my well being, so I started to find my way back. I got into triathlons after quitting swimming and started to trail run and bike. To me there is no greater feeling of freedom than moving through outdoor space, particularly one of nature, running and biking re introduced this to me. I then had the chance to work at a mountain top tea house in Banff where I lived without electricity and amenities for a summer. I truly felt I knew the place. By the time I left, I could name every mountain, valley, river, identify countless trees, birds, plants and, having just completed a geomorphology course, understand the topography of the landscape. The friendships I made that summer were unmeasurable in their meaning, and I would say these came about from the full immersion in time, place and nature as well as from the lack of modern distractions and amenities. The level of understanding I gained for that place really intensified my relationship with nature. The following summer I worked as a park ranger in Terrace British Columbia, we worked 8 days on and 6 days off. During our shifts we would do a combination of backcountry maintenance, public outreach and communication as well as ecological monitoring. Spending days camping in the backcountry at first was scary to me. I feared the large wildlife, moose, bears, cougars etc. However by the end of the summer that fear was replaced by respect, understanding and a sense of security and belonging. To be able to walk through the old growth rainforest, see endangered species, learn cultural histories, and understand the ecology and relationships between species of plants, animals and fungi was eye opening. I feel more at risk in cities and suburbs than I ever have in the great outdoors. When doing public outreach I got to address people's concerns and curiosities about the parks I was working in. There were so many people who had no clue about bear safety or the vital role of predators in our ecosystems. Being able to help explain ecosystems and their importance, as well as, how to take safety precautions to enjoy the outdoors without fear and instead respect, further evolved my relationship with nature and my sense of place in it. On a different note, I have always had a fear of death, I myself am not religious, and it was in my immersion with nature that I found a healthy peace and respect for it instead. To respond to who offered me a sense of place, I would say it was all the people who helped to shape my understanding of nature as well as those who provided me with the opportunities to explore on my own; there are a lot of people and places that deserve credit. My family when I was young, those I met in the jobs I worked, and the opportunities that came my way present a brief summary.

throwing out random ideas ive already have for arc 2 th, mặc dù arc 1 còn chưa viết xong? arc 1 chỉ mới xong đc đại khái ci việc đoạn cuối arc 1 là thanh chết + trca ra biển. cái phần chuyển giao từ arc 1 sang arc 2 còn chưa biết làm
cái phần chuyển giao nó là tone shift á vì arc 1 hoàn toàn là slice of life vui vẻ nhma slowly descending into something fuzzy xong cái đỉnh điểm là thanh chết r rô ánh ra biển quay về, từ khúc này thì ko còn romcom chích bông jj nữa. mà t vẫn ko biết wrap khúc ra biển làm sao, cái j xảy ra ở đó, r tụi nó về gặp anh thanh chết thì ntn. t có several drafts abt this - pls note that everything is in my head i never write things down - including rô insist that they should kjll themselves với ánh accidentally đẩy thằng rô té bể đầu vỡ sọ LMAO. còn vụ anh thanh chết thì probably either chúng nó chả nhớ ổng tồn tại hoặc là có để missing kiếm ng thất lạc j thì cũng never find him out. nchung là chưa biết nothings set in stone yet cái khúc chuyển giao whatever happens there idk
thì 2 things i think im gonna settle with that happens in arc 2 là
con ánh về ở với thằng rô và bác khiêm
con sơn ca xuất hiện
sơn ca. lol where do i even begin! sơn ca là manic pixie dream girl but for women (con ánh). at this point i feel like ánh với rô bắt đầu strained r và việc con sơn ca xuất hiện giving ánh the girlhood she never got to have khiến con ánh mê con ca lol
quay về việc ánh qua ở với rô với bác khiêm. vì arc 1 hoàn toàn là the world through ánh's eyes nên we're literally blinded ko biết j về any of the characters aside from con ánh, và cái breakout của anh thanh (+ thằng rô cái lúc ở biển) shift cái pov từ góc nhìn của con ánh qua góc nhìn thứ 3 nên nó qua ở với bác khiêm và rô = we're getting to know thằng rô hơn. từ đầu đến h all you know abt thằng rô là hes a little kid r thôi bởi nó ko có tính cách j aside from being the weird kid nên mới dễ cho nó làm cryptid chó đầu trẻ em jj đó giỡn chơi bên phảniverse. nhma t cũng từng hint ở đâu là rô nó trầm cảm, as in for real. thì là thế thật. the whole thing with him đc thả rông muốn đi đâu thì đi làm j thì làm khiến nó muốn qua nhà con ánh và nghe anh thanh chửi với muốn bỏ đi thật xa làm cái j thật bệnh hoạn để xem cái nào mới là giới hạn how far can he goes until his dad turns around and look for him how bad can he screw up until his dad calls out his name and tell him to come back hồi đó t cũng có nói r
con ánh qua nhà bác khiêm thì mới bắt đầu hiểu đc cảm giác của thằng kia. nó có đứng chờ bác khiêm tới rước đến tối r lủi thủi đi bộ về thì ổng cũng chỉ hỏi hnay có vui ko đi chơi tới tối luôn hả và nó có khóc lóc giãy nãy con tưởng bác đón con thì ổng cũng chỉ nói là ánh chờ bác tới tối r tự đi bộ về nhà luôn sao giỏi quá and she doesnt need to hear that shit and of course thằng rô cũng chả muốn nghe. ở với bác khiêm its the gentle absent thats killing you, ngược lại với anh thanh strict authority
thằng rô probably kinda suicidal too LMAO not because he doesnt want to live just because he knows hurting himself would result in his father care for him a bit more. nó từng cố tình nhảy lầu để gãy chân vào viện để được ba tới chăm sóc mỗi ngày nhma it didnt happen, ba nó có việc phải làm, nó có y tá và literally anyone else r
con ánh muốn bỏ chạy vì nó cảm thấy nghẹt thở, vì ko ai hiểu nó, vì shes 15 and the worlds ending nhma thằng rô bỏ chạy vì nó đã lên bao nhiêu là kế hoạch. how they should kjll themselves if nothing goes their way, how his father would have to see his death on the news if he were to care, its childish. their reasons are all childish theyre just children trying to let their voices heard
obviously i want to make this super fuzzy and nostalgic i want to have surrealism hay some magical fantasy elements j đấy để nó ko make sense. cái chết của anh thanh literally ko có nghĩa he sees himself being buried and it cuts to the widescreen that there were no anh thanh digging there was only one anh thanh under the dirt he was death from the beginning. miễn là it gets my point across everyone has their own story wrapped up nicely and it tells a coming of age the realest it can with the most unreal details. i will never finish writing this shit lol. good bye
"mẹ" will never get a name or a face btw. shes just like that in both thanh với ánh's memory. shes simply just mẹ, blurred away lol local teens struggling under the weights of mental illnesses, generational trauma, and simply just by being teens
