“Ugh… What to do? What to do?” you hummed.
It’s been days since your arrival in this era. And so far, everything is fine. Confusing but fine. You were still having nightmares that always woke you up. But you didn’t bother to tell anyone about it. It’s probably a normal reaction.
Since the superheroes in the compound have alternative schedules for their missions, you found yourself rubbing shoulders with whoever Avenger is in the compound. It’s obvious that they don’t want you to feel excluded and made it clear that they don’t mind you asking questions if you find something puzzling.
You usually bond with the youngest one, Peter Parker, who is always around since he is, based on what he said, “a friendly neighborhood superhero”. It means that he doesn’t go out of the country, like Natasha or Steve, or even this state for a mission since he still has classes to attend and he explains that his aunt won’t let him go anywhere far and dangerous. Understandable, you thought. The kid is only sixteen. But for now, Peter is staying back with his aunt in their apartment while the others are on their missions. He has a schedule for staying between the compound and his aunt’s place.
Clint is with his family, who you heard lived in this secret farmhouse. Tony is probably home too. You don’t really know. You kind of feel that he avoids being alone with you. Wanda is resting in her room. You don’t want to disturb her as you saw her coming home earlier, looking really exhausted.
When he can, Steve also kept you company. Of course, you enjoyed talking to him about his life after the whole defrosting thing. But sometimes, you felt like a disturbance or a burden in his free time. You thought, maybe he just wants to rest. Perhaps he just feels bad for you. So, you try to not stay around him all the time if he’s home.
So, you really have nothing to do. You have books but you don’t feel like reading now. You have this novel that you liked so much, you just finished it today. The compound also has this large, flat television but you don’t feel like watching anything either. It’s not like you’re not used to being alone. You’re always alone before! But at least you have a job to take up all your time. With all this free time, you cannot help but miss doing something in the laboratory. Computing numbers or testing prototypes with Howard. You wondered if your best friend ever finished that flying car he kept on re-working. You figured, maybe not. You see that people in this modern time still use four-wheeled cars.
“Oh, hey, Doctor Y/N.”
Sometime in the afternoon, Bruce Banner went out to the kitchen to get himself something to drink. That is where he sees you, looking all bored and spacing out. You forced a smile at him and greeted him back,
“Hello, Doctor Banner.”
“Bruce. You can call me Bruce.” he smiled as he opened a can of rootbeer.
“Then, you can call me just by my name too,” you replied, tapping on the hardbound book you had with you. You tried not to be obvious as you examined his look. With his eyeglasses and white coat, you know he’s been working in his laboratory.
After taking a sip from his drink, he spoke, “What are you up to in here, Y/N?”
Hearing that question, you instantly sighed heavily, making your shoulder slump, “Nothing really. I’ve been watching the paint dry, Bruce.”
Thankfully, the scientist caught on to your use of words. He chuckled before asking you, “Do you want to go to the lab?”
You swore you jumped from where you were sitting when Bruce said that. He took it as a yes and you two walked together back to his laboratory. Instantly, you were in awe of the place. There are screens and machinery everywhere. You don’t understand how these new gadgets work but you cannot wait to hear about them. This is like something you dreamed of.
“Here.”
Bruce handed you a white lab coat and you immediately grabbed it, wearing it excitedly. Damn, you missed wearing it. You stood next to him in front of his messy desk, which is pretty normal. Notes were everywhere. Even pens and crumpled papers. You’re starting to miss your own messy work table.
“Oh, I’m sorry about that,” Bruce spoke, referencing his desk.
You smiled, “It’s fine. It means you’re really working hard for something.”
Slipping your hands into the coat’s pockets, you wander around the spacious lab. You try to stop yourself from touching anything, fearing that you might mess something up. So like a little kid, your eyes just show your enthusiasm as you watch some type of liquid flow into a transparent tube.
“What are you working on?” you asked, turning your head to Bruce.
“Something that can help the world, hopefully.” he chuckled. He walked next to you, “It’s a serum that may help cancer patients.”
“That’s nice,” you whispered, eyes still distracted.
“Yeah. But it’s still an experiment. This is the first time I’m working on something like this again after I tried to recreate the super soldier serum.”
Your eyebrows raised as you looked at him, “You tried to recreate that serum?!”
Steve did not tell you about that. No one told you that someone in the compound tried to recreate it. You always wondered what Dr. Ernskine did to that serum since it seems very impossible to reproduce. But now that you’re in this modern era, people have more resources and findings. Maybe Bruce succeed.
Bruce stared back at you with a small smile, “It’s what brought me here, Y/N.”
Tumblr media
“Cap. You okay?”
Tony asked as soon as he made sure the auto-pilot was set on the plane. Instead of answering, Steve grunts while pressing a hand on the right side of his stomach. Blood was gushing out from the stab wound he got from this mission. Bucky, on the other hand, also earned bruises on his face and small cuts on his arm. The two admittedly underestimated this mission. They didn’t expect that a hundred members will show up in this cult-like mob they raided. Thankfully, Tony was able to answer an emergency call.
“Those guys really got you cornered. Whoever stabbed you would probably brag about the fact he got to stab Captain America. Too bad he died.” Tony quipped, trying to lighten the mood. He signaled to Bucky to pass him a bandage.
Steve listened with exhaustion running in his veins. He breathed out as he closed his eyes, leaning his head on the surface behind him.
“You know, you got to be more careful now…” Tony suddenly spoke, sounding a bit serious. Steve opened his eyes and look at his friend who was focused on cleaning his wound. It took minutes of silence– since Tony made sure that his wound won’t get infected– before he continued,  “You have a girlfriend waiting at home.”
“She’s not my girlfriend, Tony,” Steve replied sternly.
His best friend still managed to chuckle at that. Steve groaned when Tony slightly applied pressure to his wound. Not that Steve doesn’t like the idea of you as his romantic partner, he just doesn’t want to tolerate this kind of teasing from his friends. They might get used to it and make you uncomfortable whenever you’re with him.
Tony rolled his eyes, “Okay, whatever. But my point is you are Y/N’s closest friend in the compound right now and I don’t think she will like seeing you come back like this. I mean, you already died before and Dad told me a lot of things that happened.”
Steve tilted his head quizzically. He looked at Bucky who shared the same expression on his face.
“What–”
“There.” Tony got up as if he didn’t just say something. He pointed at Bucky. “And you too, buddy. Bring more backup next time. Something worse could have happened. You’re lucky I’m just another country away for a presentation.”
He walked back to his seat as the pilot, ignoring the confusion and curiosity from the two a-decade-old super soldiers.
Tumblr media
“That was your last memory?”
Bruce sat in front of you, typing on his laptop as you nodded an answer. A couple of hours after inviting you, you two ended up just chatting in his laboratory. Bruce told you about the time he recreated the supersoldier serum. You learned his history and how he joined this league of superhumans. He was open to sharing his struggle in accepting his power and learning to control himself from being Bruce and the Hulk.
After that, he ended up giving you a tour of his laboratory. You would share how a gadget you had before evolved into what he has now in these modern times. Your curiosity about these said gadgets made his offer to teach you whenever he can and you happily agreed. Although you’re still unsure if you’re staying here for the rest of your life, you think that it will be good to adapt in the meantime.
“The time machine…” your voice trailed off as you brought up the topic. “How did you and Tony make it?”
You’ve been wanting to ask someone about their version of a time machine here. But since Howard’s son was a bit distant, you get to talk about it with Bruce now.
Bruce shakes his head, “It was unsuccessful.”
“It brought me here.” you countered, pursing your lips.
The air around you two was suddenly all serious and Bruce feels it. You were just wondering how they built their time machine. How did they make it work? It was seemingly more successful than Howard’s. Was it because of the current and upgraded technologies? Did they use different formulas than Howard? Did they make their own original version that was way different than what you and your best friend worked on in the past?

Bruce looked at you for seconds like he was contemplating if he should tell you. Then, he exhaled, removing his glasses.
“Tony brought the blueprint and basically the whole plan for it months ago. He said he found it when he was digging up in his dad’s office in their old house.”
“Wait.” your eyebrows scrunched together as you paused. You take your time processing his answer. You made sure you understood it by saying, “So… it was originally Howard’s… The blueprint for it?”
He nods, “Yes, Tony found it along with other plans his dad never worked on. We just used other materials than the outdated ones...”
You didn’t really listen to the rest of his words when you heard the first sentence. Your eyes stared at some space. Never worked on? He means, Howard made this plan and never worked on it? Does it mean that if your best friend just worked it, you could have been back earlier than this era? Your hand slowly pressed a hand on your chest and you felt your heartbeat getting quicker Bruce quickly noticed it and you looked up at him with your eyes screaming in confusion and surprise, hurt.
“When did Howard plan it?” you asked. Your voice was weak and you almost said it in a whisper.
Although confused, Bruce replied, “1977. It was written on the bottom of the blueprint.”
Your brain was quick in computing it. It was thirty years after your disappearance. You feel like shaking as you blinked away the tears that were blurring your sight.
“W-Where can I find this blueprint? I want to see it.”
The change in your tone and expression made Bruce ask, “Y/N, are you okay–”
“Where?” you asked again instead of answering.
“Uh, Tony has it.”
You ran your palms all over your face, calming yourself down. You breathe out. You knew you had to stop yourself from crying as you cannot stand doing it again.  It’s pointless. You’ve been tearing up ever since you came here and you have never been this vulnerable. You don’t like it. Before Bruce can repeat a word, you sighed heavily.
“I’m sorry,” you said, shaking your head. “I… I was just surprised Howard planned on building another time machine and never made a move on it.”
Bruce hummed quietly and replied, “It’s fine… Everything must have been a lot to you.”
You chuckled, trying to lighten up the atmosphere, “Yeah, it’s a real bummer and I think it makes me blow a fuse really easily. I swear I was never this emotional.”
Tumblr media
If he did it, would I have come back earlier?
The question floats in your head as you set your eyes on the quiet lake just outside the compound. You pulled your knees closer to your chest and rested your chin on your knees. The sky was already dimming down as the sun already set. Nature was quiet and the only loud thing was your brain with all these questions you were asking yourself.
There was a part of you who wished you shouldn’t have just asked Bruce. Maybe you wouldn’t feel this way. But you were always curious about things, so you asked. And here you are, having this moment. As if knowing about Howard’s plans is not enough, you still had thoughts if you can ask Tony about it. You let out an exasperated, hopeless exhale. Maybe not.
“Dr. Y/N!”
You snapped out of your deep thoughts when you heard your name. Turning your head to your side, you spotted Peter approaching with a smile on his face. He waved his hand, and your lips form a small smile.
“Hey… I thought you were staying with your aunt tonight?”
He sat beside you on the green grass, “I’m just staying here until nine. Then, I’ll go back home. I dropped by to see if you’re baking tonight.”
You giggled, “Well, today’s not your lucky day, kid. But I think we still have a few brownies in the jar from the other day.”
“I checked. It’s already empty.” he feigned disappointment, holding his chest, and you two chuckled. “How was your day here, doc?”
“Boring. I haven’t really done much. Bruce saw me in the kitchen earlier and invited me to his lab. I just miss doing something again.“ you confessed with a hint of frustration in your tone. “How about you, kid?”
He shrugged his shoulders, “Eh, just school. I and my friend Ned ended up in detention because he cannot stop talking about this new movie during chemistry class. Then, our other friend, MJ joined us since she said she enjoys going to detention. We planned to eat something after but MJ has a part-time job to go to.” Peter shared and you feel that he was pretty satisfied with how his day went.
“Well, at least one of us got to bond with their friends,” you scoffed. “I have to get used to my friends being superheroes.”
“They are usually busy, aren’t they?”
You nod, “Yeah. It actually made me feel jobless.”
You two laughed at that. You resumed, “I can’t believe I finished two books in a short period– Speaking of books, I was wondering if you could lend me a hand.”
“For what?”
“Oh, you know that novel I’ve been reading these past few days?”
“Ah, the one with the whole time machine plot too?”
“Yes. I… I really loved the book. Is there any way I can reach out to the author? Maybe write them a letter? I just really want to let them know that it’s a good story.”
Maybe it’s because of a lot of free time on your hand. But you just really adored the plot and the novel itself. You found it in the new releases section of the bookstore you went to days ago. But the story was set around your time, in the 40s, and mainly revolved around time traveling, which initially pulled you into buying it. It was accurate by the era it was in, and it made you feel closer to where you came from. Now, you just finished it and it was beautiful even though it was left on a cliffhanger. It causes you something to look forward to.
“We can try to reach out. Maybe they have e-mail. It’s faster than sending them written letters.” Peter suggests.
You cocked an eyebrow, “What’s an email?”
“Oh, it’s electronic mail. It’s like the modern type of exchanging letters with other people. Instead of asking for the person’s home address, they can just give you their email address. Then, you can send them a message with the computer or cellphone.” he explains and you nod.
“How about your laptop?”
He nods, “Yeah, we can also use that.”
You two ended up walking back to the compound. Peter helped you with creating your own e-mail address and typing your message to the author. You wanted to learn and get used to with using this gadget so you offered to type yourself. He was patient enough to teach you with the keys on the keyboard as you type.
“So, it automatically saves itself as a draft?”
You moved the cursor on the screen as you glided your index finger on the touchpad of his laptop. It wasn’t a long message but it was genuine. You re-read the whole thing again before passing the laptop to Peter.
“Yeah, what’s the name of the author again?” the boy asked before opening a new tab in the browser.
“Oh, wait…” you reached for the book and read the huge, bold name written on the front cover. “It’s… Donald S. Burton.”
“Okay, we can look for his website. Maybe he has his contacts there.”
His voice trailed off when he began typing on the search bar. It never fails to amaze you how fast this thing can give you answers. It’s like all of the books in the library were compiled into this gadget. Peter input the name and a list of information about Donald S. Burton showed up. There were even images of the man. You cannot help but smile when the old guy reminds you of someone familiar.
“Here is his email!“
Tumblr media
“I like these. What are these again?”
Steve smiled at your curiosity, “Chicken nuggets.”
“Okay. Chicken nuggets,” you repeated. “I wished we had these in our time. I love these and these sauces. And of course, this sundae!” you exclaimed before taking a scoop with the tiny spoon.
Just a couple of days after you talked with Bruce in the lab and sent an e-mail with Peter’s help, you found yourself having a picnic with Steve just around the city. It was a quiet park in the busy city. It was a Tuesday so there were fewer people in the place. He invited you with it after he got home from his mission.
“Should I bake or make something?” you asked him.
“You don’t have to if you don’t want to. We’ll be ordering food on the way to the park,” he replied.
“Are the others coming too?” you asked again.
He shook his head, “I… didn’t ask them.”
“Why didn’t you ask them?” you raised an eyebrow.
Steve seemed to be caught off guard. Bucky, Sam, Natasha, and Peter, who were also in the living room when you asked, smirked and looked at each other knowingly when they saw their leader’s frozen reaction. He stood there awkwardly with his hands on his hips. Natasha was the first to break the silence.
“I’ll be training,” she said.
The others caught on to it and spew their reasons too. Peter chimed in, “I have a ton of homework to do, Doc.”
“I’m visiting my sister in Louisiana,” Sam explained with a scoff. That made you squint your eyes at him. Then you looked at Bucky, waiting for his reason. He seemed frozen like the gears in his head is turning.
“I… uhm… I’m…”
“He’ll help me with training.” Nat saved him. “We’ll do some planning with the next mission.”
So that’s how you and Steve ended up alone on this picnic, which you don’t mind. You had a fun ride going here. He lets you play songs by connecting your rarely-used phone to the car’s stereo.
“How did you learn about that song?” he asked when American Pie played.
You smiled, “Natasha. I heard it from her.”
You ordered food from a fast food chain through a drive-thru. It was exciting as Steve ordered meals you didn’t try before. When you arrived at the peaceful park, you insist on helping him with bringing stuff. He just made you bring the blanket while he carries all the other things. When you found a perfect spot, you laid the gingham blanket on the green grass. You sat comfortably in your casual floral dress before you two began eating.
“Thank you for this, Steve.” you smiled.
“You’re welcome. Thank you for coming with me. I haven’t been on a picnic with someone for a while.” he said.
“You know, before I got in the time machine, I went picnic with my neighbors.” you shared, remembering that day with the Smiths.
“Mr. and Mrs. Jones?!” he asked with surprise.
Your ears perked when you heard that. The Jones were your neighbors before the Smiths. They are the last ones Steve knew since he and Bucky would sometimes fetch you if you were hanging out somewhere. The said couple was a bit grumpy, to be honest. They can hear even the smallest noise you would make in your apartment and would always let you know they don’t like it.
“Oh, no. They moved out months after you disappeared. Another family occupied their space. Susan and Robert Smith. They have this little kid named Donny. They are much nicer.” you joked.
“Well, that’s nice. I missed a lot of things while on ice.”
“It was only two years, Steve. Nothing much happened.” you snorted, finishing your sundae.
“A lot of things can happen. I know Howard found the Tesseract while searching for me on the ice… Share some things that happened in those two years.”
“Okay…” you exhaled. “I bet you already know that they tried making a series after Captain America vanished. You became an icon. Have you seen it?”
You laughed when you saw Steve hissed, “I didn’t like it.”
“Yeah, it was bad.” you cracked up. You only watched that once. You don’t like how they painted Peggy into a character named Betty who was always a damsel in distress. Peggy had complained about it too.
“Anyway, we– Howard and I– tried for like a year to search for you. But he would usually be the one to go on sites and I would always try to come with him. He needs more convincing but it always works.”
Howard often says that going in the field can be dangerous and you would fight back over and over again. You were glad you did because you were with them when they found the Tesseract.
“What convincing did you do?”
“Well, I would say that I’m his assistant. My job is technically following him around. Then when he says no, I’ll say that I am his best friend. I still do have my last reason if he denies me of coming with him.” you said.
“And what is it?”
You paused and just stared at him. Chewing on your bottom lip, you hmmed. It was like you were thinking if you should tell him the last reason for Howard to let you go with him. Steve waits. He tried to be comfortable as he leaned back with his arms resting behind him. He hoped he doesn’t look much curious or nosy. After what felt like an eternity, you spoke.
“It’s… It’s that I am the last one you spoke to while you were on that plane.”
You looked away from him, avoiding his gaze. You tried to just look at the trees and people from the distance than just look at Steve. Your chest felt heavier when you remembered that time Steve fought that skull and had control of that plane. Steve didn’t say a word so you continued to explain more, just to get it off your chest.
“It would always work since he fully knows that I have guilt living in my system after the country lost you.” you chuckled bitterly. “I felt awfully bad that I cannot do anything to help you during that situation.”
When your voice shook uncontrollably in the last words of your sentence, Steve sat back up and you can see the sympathy in his blue eyes. He reached out for your resting hand, instantly caging it in his warm hands.
“Y/N… none of it was your fault. It was already a dead-end situation. I was the one who chose to crash it.” he tried to reassure you.
“I know, I know,” you mumbled, tears slipping from your eyes. “But I cannot stand losing another person in my life that time, Steve.”
Your tearful eyes met his concerned ones. “We just lost Barnes earlier that year. And I really just can’t lose you… I tried to think of something. Howard was in the same room while I was talking to you on the phone. We tried to make a plan but we don’t have any idea where the hell the plane was and it was moving really fast. It was really bad. I felt helpless. I thought I might have been able to do something to help you but we have no time. I hate that all I can do is talk to you on the phone, hoping that you won’t feel alone, while I prayed silently for some miracle to happen. And it was crazy because  I don’t even remember the last time I prayed before that moment.”
By the time you finished talking, you were full-on sobbing. Your chest heaved and your cheeks were damp from your salty tears. Steve held your hand. His thumb drew circles on it as he lets you cry for more. And when he felt you calming down, he uttered:
“Staying in that call with me until the end was enough for me. I appreciate you for handling yourself very well and being calm with me that time. You are amazing. And you don’t know how relieved I am when I knew you were the one who answered the call. Thank you.” Steve said softly, offering a small smile as he looked directly into your eyes. “You already did much more you know for me that time.”
Tumblr media
2/19/1945
Y/N arrived with puffy eyes today. I knew it before she even removed the black sunglasses she had on. I already told her the day before that she have the choice of not going to the laboratory today. But she still did. It was quiet the whole day in the lab. We both tried to act busy like nothing much happened. Due to the events of these past two weeks, I’ve been getting telephone calls from a lot of people. I chose to ignore them because I know it has something to do with Rogers’ disappearance and I’d been hearing they want to make the serum like Ernskine’s. I honestly think that it would be hard to “remake” Captain America ever again. She didn’t eat anything for the whole day even a cup of coffee. I insisted on walking her home, saying I have to borrow her old research about the future of computers. She said she’ll just bring it tomorrow but I said I need it urgently even though I really don’t. In fact, I have nothing to do with her research. I just had to make sure she’ll get home safe. I thought it was a good idea to just walk with her instead of asking Jarvis to drive us. But boy, I was wrong. The loss of the nation’s superhero is plastered all over the place. I tried distracting Y/N by telling her about the funny encounter I had with a girl months ago. I never told her about it before because I know she doesn’t like that I cannot commit to a single girl. But I have no more story to tell at the moment. It was a relief that she let out small laughs and smile at it. Although the smiles didn’t reach her eyes, I hope she felt better for a bit. She was about to say some advice or something when she suddenly froze. Her lips formed into a frown and I see tears forming in her eyes. I follow where her eyes lay and it was the newspapers. WE NEED A NEW CAPTAIN. The headline was printed in big, bold letters. Eye-catching. “They cannot just replace Steve like that.” It was a whisper from her. I hate that all I can do is sigh. Two minutes later, we reached her apartment. She handed me her research and thanked me. She smiled. But it was forced, I know.
As I am writing this letter, I am thinking of leaving this city with Y/N for a vacation somewhere away from here. I don’t know if she will like that. Maybe she won’t. Maybe I’ll just settle on walking her home with another made-up reason from the back of my head. I don’t know. I just feel helpless seeing her like this again after Barnes’ and now, Rogers’ death. Even so, I’ll always make sure that she will be alright.
H.S.
Tony removed his eyeglasses as he finished reading. His index finger traces the handwritten words by his father, sighing in the process. He can hear his father’s voice with each word in it.
“Tony, we need to go. We should fly at six!” Pepper’s voice cuts off his thoughts.
He stretched his limbs before replying, “Okay, honey. Just getting my glasses.”
Tony stared at the page again for a second before closing his father’s journal. He slid it onto one of the drawers on his nightstand and left.

because I like to sort things as a form of procrastination, I sorted my fics into niche themed collections of three or more:
wibbly wobbly timey wimey - fics with time travel, contains Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries/Doctor Who, The Umbrella Academy, and Dead Boy Detectives
the play's the thing - fics involving the theatre, contains Avengers, Good Omens, and Ted Lasso/Station Eleven
when there's no more room in hell - fics with zombies, contains Great Expectations, Kingdom, and The English
Subtle Asian Traits  - fics featuring Asians in diaspora, contains Rivers of London, Shang-Chi/Black Panther, and The Mandalorian
Headlines, Deadlines - fics with journalists, contains Daredevil/The Punisher, Hamilton, Ted Lasso, The Magnus Archives, and Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries
anyway it's quite intriguing to me to see what tropes keep cropping up in my fics; wonder what other themed collections I could cobble together? fics set in the 1920s? fics with detectives? fics with spies? fics that are workplace comedies? fics set in London (a good third of them, tbh)? many possibilities!

hey! I think my ask was eaten by tumblr given that it's been a few weeks, so I'll ask again. (If you just haven't found the fic I apologize for bothering you). Anyway, it was a time-travel fic that started off in Siberia right after the Civil War fight. It took Tony to the aftermath of the first Avengers. He kept feeling betrayedl at Steve. I know Natasha noticed something was off about him. It was loki/tony. Thanks!
Could it be this fic?
If You Had This Time Again (ao3) - dls loki/tony T, 268k
Summary: Tony Stark closed his eyes in a wrecked Siberian bunker and woke up on a demolished New York street. Four years earlier.

ETA: now with the link to the chapter. Dammit, Tumblr...
It didn’t seem possible that Phyl could have not told anyone about going back to 1943, but if there was even a small chance that that was true, then Stella couldn’t mention it to anyone until someone else acknowledged it to her first. Which also meant that she couldn’t ask anyone about Phyl, unless she could think of some reasonable excuse why she would know the name and want to make contact.
She had to believe that Phyl would contact her; needed to believe it. Even with how angry she felt at the thought of everything Phyl had kept from her, the thought of Phyl—of someone she knew, and who cared for her--was still the one bright star visible through a break in dark cloud. The brush of a piece of floating debris against her fingertips as she was drowning in a turbulent sea of loss and grief.
She had spent two years where Phyl only existed in her memories, she could wait a little longer. At this point, she had nothing but time.
____
Warning for loss, grief, aftermath of character death and depression for this one, though it's getting better?
Only a few chapters left to go, OMG. It doesn't seem real that this fic is almost finished and posted.

Title: those who have never sought it Fandom: Marvel Cinematic Universe Pairings: None. Warnings: Canon level violence. Trauma. Flashbacks of a sort Prompt: @badthingshappenbingo - Killing in Self-Defense @whumpcember - The End is Nigh and Desperation
Peter had just—
He’d killed. He’d activated the Instant Kill Mode.
He remembered asking Mr. Stark exactly what that setting was supposed to do. He’d been going through Karen’s coding in the lab, adding what Ned and he’d figured out for a sort of explosive GPS. They’d thought it might help with the Queens Arsonist.
Mr. Stark had looked solemn. He’d put away the fabricator to come talk to him. “Kid,” he’d said. “I dragged you to Germany. It was wrong of me, incredibly so, but I did. That was … the big leagues. Your groundwork is important, but things like that – they could get you killed.”
Peter had swallowed. He was hardly unaware of mortality. If burying empty coffins for his parents at age six hadn’t driven that lesson in, holding Ben as he bled out on the asphalt certainly had.
But Mr. Stark’s heavy tone spoke to horrors even beyond those. It reminded Peter of trying to figure out a way to dig a bullet out of himself one of his first weeks Spider-Manning, of being helpless as the Vulture’s claws choked the breath out of him and his vision blurred, of the sad, grave look on May’s face when she lost someone from FEAST or at the hospital, of the dark circles under Ned’s eyes after Peter woke up post two days in a medically induced coma, of inhaling dirt and sobbing desperately as he tried to hold up the collapsed warehouse.
Mr. Stark had clapped a hand on his shoulder tightly. “Instant Kill’s a last resort. It’s ridiculously dangerous, and Karen’s programmed to reflect that. But I’d rather you have that if there’s even the slightest chance it might help you someday.”
And now it was.
And Peter loathed it.
He didn’t want to kill.
It wasn’t that Peter didn’t respect people who he knew had killed. He knew Mr. Stark had killed many terrorists and aliens and blah blah blah. He was an Avenger, and that wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows. He knew Miss Potts had killed Obadiah Stane and The Mandarin. Daredevil didn’t pull his punches with his villains. Deadpool was a straight up mercenary.
But the whole concept behind Spider-Man was that he showed mercy. He’d sworn before Uncle Ben’s grave that he would never walk past a tragedy he could prevent again.
And killing was always a tragedy. What right did Peter, seventeen-year-old high schooler, have to be judge, jury and executioner? The Vulture was a villain, but he was also Liz’s dad. How many others were like that?
Yet Peter stood now, with the world’s most powerful collection of rocks in his hand, swinging desperately and leaving dead bodies in his wake.
They were aliens, but they were sentient beings. Peter’s animal rights sensibilities brain screamed every time he punched one and one of his pincers killed them.
It’s self-defense, he told himself firmly. I have to do it. Just incapacitating them isn’t enough – they’ll just get back up. I don’t know how quick or well aliens get rejuvenated.
And now that he’d killed once – several times, in fact – he knew the option of killing would never leave his brain. Every time this happened, he would hesitate lesser and lesser to kill.
And the line between hero and villain – especially vigilante and villain, according to certain police officers and newspapers – was very thin.
Overwhelmed by his thoughts and the unending stream of hostiles trying to take the gauntlet, he cried out for help. He had about two seconds to fanboy over Captain America being able to wield Mjolnir and having a nickname for him before chaos reigned once more.
Miss Potts saved his life, and a very nice woman on a Pegasus. Peter rolled over, gasping for breath, trying to hide himself from the enemies who wanted the gauntlet.
This is going to end soon, he told himself. From his perspective, he’d fought at Titan with Mr. Stark and Dr. Strange and the Guardians of the Galaxy just to end up on Earth continuing the fight.
Dr. Strange had said it’d been five years, but that hadn’t really processed until he saw the older, more ragged version of Mr. Stark staring at him like he was a miracle, cradling his face like he was something precious, holding him like he would never let go, showing emotion in a way he would’ve never allowed himself to just a day – five years ago.
It had to end soon.
Dr. Strange had said that there was only once chance out of 14000605 that they won. This had to be it.
Right?
Anxiety roped through his chest, making it hard to breathe. The stones glinted in the dull lighting and off the blood and dirt. Pretty, he thought absently.
The blue one was obviously the Tesseract – the Space Stone, Dr. Strange had called it. Anybody who had the internet would know that one, after the Battle of New York.
The sandy one – the Mind Stone - he was used to seeing on Vision’s face. He wondered how Thanos had gotten it in the end. It hadn’t been in the Gauntlet on Titan.
The orange one sent chills down his body. He hadn’t known what it was prior to being turned into dust, but he certainly did now. He didn’t know how the others had felt it, but he’d felt his body disintegrating, the Soul Stone pulling him into its void.
The screams around him were intense. As discomposed as he was right now, he could hear everything. Mr. Stark’s repulsors – or were they Miss Potts’ or Colonel Rhodes’ or Princess Shuri’s? The whoosh at Ant-Man expanding or shrinking in size. The whirring in the spaceship above them. The flapping of the Pegasus’ wings. Parts of the Compound still collapsing. Someone asking for the Gauntlet.
Peter gave a strangled laugh. This was what was being fought over. The glove in his hand was one of the most - if not the most powerful - weapons in the universe.
Absurdly, he was reminded of playing Passing-the-Parcel in Abe Brown’s birthday party in third grade. He’d prayed not to get out. He supposed the stakes were just a tad higher in this game.
He heard repulsors whir again, and felt his stomach tighten. What would Miss Potts do if Mr Stark died? What would T’Challa do if Shuri died? What would Mr Stark do if Miss Potts or Colonel Rhodes died?
What would he do if Mr Stark died?
This was going to end soon. It had to.
But how was it going to end? What would happen?
What if Thanos showed up right now and snatched the gauntlet from him? What if the Squidward-lookalike turned up again?
The spaceship above them clanked and tumbled. He heard guns and satellites being loaded in there. What were they aiming at? Was he going to be blown up into the bits of dust and dirt he liked to imagine Ben was still watching him from?
He could know, he realized suddenly. He had a foolproof way right in his hands.
He remembered the way Dr. Strange spasmed while invoking the Time Stone, how he’d looked at Mr Stark and said solemnly that it was the only way before dying. He remembered learning about paradoxes and how knowing the future can sometimes be worse than not. He remembered the gauntlet coming into his hands on Titan, victory slipping through his fingers like fine sand. He remembered begging Mr Stark to save him as he fell apart.
He looked back at the Stones. They glowed tantalizingly.
There was a plan, he thought. Something about a van and a time machine. How could he know better than so many experienced heroes?
But then. He remembered reading about Sokovia. He remembered kneeling in front of Ben as he gasped his dying breaths. He remembered sobbing with desperation and cleaning dirt encrusted blood off his arms later.
He remembered the choked cry the first alien he had killed had let out right before they stopped breathing.
Never again.
He dug out the green glowing Time Stone from the gauntlet, thankful for his super strength, and on an afterthought took the red and purple ones too.
He wanted to change reality, after all. And that would take a lot of power.
He wasn’t sure how to use the stones. Dr. Strange was the time keeper and Thanos had just waved his hand around to use them.
He felt the sheer power, the radiation eating away at his body and spirit. His Spider-sense rang like a bell.
Thoughts, memories, emotions swirled around him in a vortex.
I am never walking past another tragedy I can prevent.
I don’t want to ever kill again.
—And another Parker grave added to the set —
May. Ned. Mr Stark. MJ. They have to be okay.
—And Ben was dying again, his blood spilling over his hands and their clothes and the dirt —
What is going to happen?
—And May was saying “It’s just me and you” —
How do we win?
—And Ned and he were high-fiving as they opened their acceptance letters to Midtown —
W H A T D O I H A V E T O D O
— And Mr Stark was scolding him for being reckless while patching him up as he tried to convince him that building a lightsaber would be a great idea —
H  O  W  D  O  I  M  A  K  E  S  U  R  E
—And Ned was screaming in excitement as he swung from the building and saved someone else from the fire —
I   N   E   E   D   T   O   K   N   O   W
—And he was brushing the spider off after the sudden sting, impatient and wanting to re-join the tour group—
D    O    I    N    E    E   D   T    O    C    H    A    N    G    E     A    N    Y    T    H   I    N   G
—And he’d just accidentally broken down a door and was staring at it in bewilderment—
G     O     O     O     D     M     U     S     T     P     R     E     V     A     I     L
—And MJ was smirking at him right after driving Flash away and tossing him a drawing of him ‘in crisis’—
A     H      A      P      P      Y      E      N     D      I     N     G?
He blinked his eyes open.
His eyelids felt unusually heavy.
“Peter Benjamin Parker,” A voice mused, and suddenly Peter knew who he was and what he was doing there.
“Son of Mary and Richard,” Another voice joined.
“Beloved of Maybelle and Benjamin and Anthony and Edward and Michelle and Morgan,” A third added.
“We hear your request,” All three chorused.
Peter stumbled to his feet, wrung out. He wasn’t sure where the hell he was. He wasn’t sure of anything – least of all how he felt after that rollercoaster of memories and sensations.
“So, you’re going to grant it--?” He asked awkwardly.
The view shook like it was an optical illusion. The part that didn’t was the cemetery – where his parents and Ben were laid to rest. One moment the three were humanoid figures. The next they were large rocks. They glowed the colour of the Infinty Stones.
Peter couldn’t feel his body or his Spidey Sense, but he could somehow tell the one which was speaking was faintly amused. “Why wouldn’t we?”
“It’s opposing the previous thing you did,” he pointed out. “Or – well, I don’t know if it counts because you’re from the past—”
“We are infinity, child,” one said indifferently. “What would that matter?”
“We merely perform the functions for which we were created,” the third said. “Which includes following the orders of the worthy. The Timekeeper – Stephen Strange – proved himself by showing perseverance, accepting the death of his mentor, and mastering the Mystic Arts. Thanos did by being powerful, determined and a leader enough to collect all of us despite the sacrifices and struggles he had to go through. Anthony Stark would have proven himself by being willing to give up everything, through his sheer will and love.”
Mr Stark would have what--?
“What would the nature of the command do to us?” The first one said idly, still sounding amused. “Whatever happens, whatever goes on in the universes – Time, Space, Mind, Power, Soul and Reality remain constant.”
“Though not so much in this case,” The third continued, “You do wish to mold reality, child?”
Peter felt his ghosts pressing into him. It was his mom and dad, teaching him to become who he was, Uncle Ben who handed over the most important lesson of his life, Aunt May who endured and loved, Ned who was steadfast, Mr Stark who understood and equipped. “Whatever it takes.”
They considered him. “So young,” they hissed as one. “To be carrying the burdens of so many.”
And then suddenly Peter wasn’t in that limbo – he was Carol Danvers who felt a smug sense of satisfaction at blowing up the ship and empathy for teenage superhero Peter Parker; he was Steve Rogers who became worthy of Mjolnir and fought to the bitter end and his happy ending; he was Tony Stark who looked over the compound and thought of his family and decided it was worth it; he was May Parker looming helplessly over her nephew as he grieved at the funeral of someone else he loved; he was Morgan Stark as she stared at the stars and grew up; he was Sam Wilson being handed a legacy; he was T’Challa learning to rule a kingdom he’d been absent from five years; he was Yelena Belova and screaming and raging at the unfairness of the world; he was America Chavez traversing one universe after another in search of something she couldn’t name; he was Ned Leeds discovering magic; he was May Parker reinforcing her husband’s lesson; he was Michelle Jones watching helplessly as the boy she loved disappeared from the world and her mind; he was Peter Parker deciding not to involve the people he loved in his mess; he was Johnny Storm agreeing lazily to a trip in space; he was Queen Shuri screaming her grief into the world and meeting T’Challa the second; he was Jane Foster hoping for a cancer treatment; he was Thor looking for life’s meaning again; he was Shang-Chi being sent on the mission that would change life forever; he was Captain Monica Rambeau getting sucked into the Scarlet Witch’s world; he was Jennifer Walters getting powers; he was Wanda Maximoff destroying Mount Wundagore  – he was so many and no one at all at once.
He was Peter Parker crouched in the ditch in the battlefield in the Battle of Earth, Peter Parker at Tony Stark’s funeral, Peter Parker stumbling over his words to confess his feelings to MJ before she pointed out the drone, Peter Parker holding his aunt’s body begging her to wake up, Peter Parker meeting his dimensional counterparts and thinking family, Peter Parker at the Statue of Liberty, Peter Parker kissing Johnny Storm as the world ended, Peter Parker going out in a burst of explosions and glory against Kang. He was all of them and yet someone new.
Peter blinked. His eyelids were surprisingly heavy. His brain tried to reorganize itself from the scrambled mess it had become, hurriedly trying to incorporate the injected memories.
He’d asked what would happen.
He supposed he’d gotten his answer.
“I think you broke the boy,” The perpetually amused one said interestedly.
“I’m fine,” Peter said. He thought his throat would be dry if he could actually feel it. “I. . .”
In the end, it wasn’t all bad. Thanos would die. Kingpin would be defeated as the Vulture was. The Incursion would be prevented. Beyonder, Titania and the others of the alliance would fall. Kang’s reign would be ended. Humanity would push on as it always did, cockroaches in the fabric of reality.
But in the meantime. . . So much suffering. So much pain. So much tragedy that could be prevented.
But what could he do? He was just one person. Sure, he’d been and would be important in fights and confrontations that changed the world, but he couldn’t singlehandedly overturn every single disaster, much less ones of as epic proportions as Thanos and the Alliance and Infinity Ultron and Kang.
“A happy ending,” The apathetic one mulled over the words. “That was your wish. How would you propose that happen?”
“I guess I’ll go back and try to prevent some of the worse things from happening. . .?” Peter volunteered, entirely unenthused about the prospect. How was he supposed to stop Mr Stark from snapping? Or Wanda from going crazy with grief? Or Wilson Fisk from running the mafia?
What even qualified as bad things? Johnny getting his powers had been traumatic, but he’d later helped save the world multiple times and – Peter would’ve blushed if he could’ve. He thought the Human Torch had been happy by the end.
Peter suddenly felt sick and wished fervently he hadn’t done this. He had no idea what to do or how to resolve any of the numerous moral quandaries he needed to in order to progress. He'd killed. He'd taken life. Surely that should have gotten rid of some of his ethics?
“Would that give you your happy ending?” The third – the humane - one inquired. “Everyone you care for alive? The world saved?”
Peter was motionless and he felt his Spidey Sense give a long warble before curling down to settle.
If you expect disappointment, then you can never really get disappointed.
Everyone wants a happy ending, right?
Everything Spider-Man touches comes to ruin.
Okay, so let ‘em do their thing. You can go work on a fallback plan.
Strong enough to have it all, too weak to take it.
If you’re nothing without the suit, you shouldn’t have it.
You have a gift. You have power. And with great power, there must also come great responsibility.
“What do you want me to do?” He asked, resigned.
“’Want me to do’,” The amused one said, savouring each word. “Nothing, boy. But it was your wish to have your happy ending.”
“And that isn’t possible in this timeline,” the humane one continued.
Peter had to agree. He hated it, but he agreed. Even if he snapped right now instead of Mr Stark, EDITH existed and Quentin Beck would want it, the Multiverse would still break but instead of him some poor sorcerer apprentice would be caught up in it, without him around Fisk would be a lot more open with his general shadiness, Shuri would still lose everything, MJ and Ned would still get caught up in some nonsense because they were people with large hearts and a deep intelligence and he wouldn’t be there to save them, and without his sacrifice Kang might be able to get the edge on them.
Peter was one insignificant soul – but in the grand scale of things he did matter.
“So what do I do?”
“You picked up Time, Power and me,” The indifferent one – Reality, apparently – said. “What was your intention there?”
“Um,” Peter said dumbly. “Dr. Strange used the – Time to see the future, which is what I wanted to do. And I wanted to change it if I needed to so Reality – you.”
“And you thought I would be necessary to do that,” The amused one, Power, said.
“Which is fair enough,” Time, the humane one, said. “Since that is what allows us to do this.”
“Do what?” Peter asked, alarm stirring. His Sense gave a light buzz but didn’t tingle, which probably meant this wasn’t going to harm him.
“Peter Benjamin Parker,” Power thundered.
“Bearer of the gauntlet,” Time said.
“Holder of Infinity,” Reality announced.
“You will be sent back to your body on the date of May 23rd 2016,” Time glowed oddly at the words.
Peter was still stuck on the point. “Wait – time travel? Like Back to the Future? Or Peggy Sue got married?”
“You did agree that The Battle of the Earth is a point of no return for your happy ending,” Reality pointed out boredly. “The only logical conclusion is to therefore send you to sometime where you can work towards it.”
“Foster better relationships with the other Avengers and diplomacy with alien planets,” Power said, like he – she – they – it? Was ticking items off a list. “Take down Kingpin and Vulture sooner. Stabilize the multiverse.”
“You say that like it’s simple,” Peter said vaguely – but his mind was whirring.
There were so many things he could do better. So much he could make easier for Ned and Mr Stark and Dr. Strange and the Avengers.
The chance to have a do-over was something people would give anything for. Excitement and panic began to build up. Something occurred to him. “Why May 2016? Why – why not before?”
Ben, he thought longingly. Ben had died in January. He could go back. He could - he could save him, apologize to him, see him again—
“I’m afraid that’s not possible,” Time said gently. “The day you met Anthony Stark is the day you were set on this path. Your being bitten by the spider and Benjamin Parker’s death are universal constants. Them being changed would be too much too quick.”
Peter swallowed his bitterness and the stinging in his eyes. He supposed his parents’ and Ben’s survival would be too much to ask.
The world is unfair, he thought, remembering MJ telling him she loved him on Liberty Island, the blood and dirt and the light fading from the eyes of Ben and Mr Stark and May, Ned’s desolate eyes when he’d learned his dad’s fate, the way Shuri screamed when her mother died, Johnny’s final supernova, dying in pain and alone without knowing Kang had been defeated, but it’s ours. I have power. Power to change everything, to give us a happier ending. The end is close, but so is a new beginning. I have a responsibility to everyone who doesn’t have that power.
“Okay,” he said, taking a deep breath and steeling himself. “I’m doing this.”
“Excellent,” Reality said briskly. “Now—”
“You must choose your companions,” Power said, voice light. “Whom will you choose?”
“W-What do you mean?” Peter asked, thrown off.
“You may choose five companions,” Reality said.
“One for each of us,” Power said.
“I can choose?” he asked, bewildered.
“Your happy ending,” Reality reminded him brightly. “Your choice.”
His happy ending. That had been his final, most fervent wish when handling the Stones. No wonder they were harping on that so much.
Peter wished he could feel his corporeal body, because he really wanted to pinch himself. Aliens, space, Infinity Stones. . . It was hard to believe only a day ago to him he’d been on a field trip to MoMA listening to Flash moan about the horrid bus conditions.
But how the hell could he choose?
He needed people whom he trusted, but who would also be ready to give everything up to save the world.
Peter wasn’t unaware of what he was doing. He may be dazed, but he was a smart kid, as Mr Stark often told him. He was giving up his May, his Ned, his MJ, his Johnny, his Shuri, his Matt, his Wade, the life that would have been his – tragic, sure, but also filled with love and laughter and heroism.
He needed to find people who would have been worse off if this timeline continued.
One choice was instant. He ticked all the boxes, and he was one of the people Peter loved and trusted most in the world. “Mr Stark.”
The Stones gave no sign as to what their opinion of his choice was.
Mr Stark covered the Avengers, and earthly heroes. If he needed to build bridges with aliens and maintain the multiverse, he needed people experienced in that – “Dr. Strange.” He remembered the future he saw for Dr. Strange. He liked America Chavez, from what he’d seen of her, and hoped the doctor would be able to find her sooner.
Two safe ones. Now to shake the boat a bit.
Aliens were harder. He supposed one of the Guardians of the Galaxy would do, but he couldn’t think of how they might have any power over the entirety of space. He considered Thor – Thor, the strongest, the god of thunder, Peter’s bi reveal – but what he needed was someone subtler. Someone sneakier. Someone who practiced magic.
Controversial, but he’d died. Peter thought he could cut him some slack. “Loki.”
Avengers. Aliens. Multiverse. For the street level, though. . . . He needed someone with power on the business side of things. Someone who was strong, who had managed Stark Industries and its trade and resources with other planets and countries for years after becoming a widow. Someone without whom Morgan – Morgan, his beloved little sister – couldn’t exist. “Mrs. Potts.”
Peter suddenly realized he’d already filled four spots. He only had one left. He longed to say May or Ned. May and Ned, who had been there with him since his parents had died nearly a decade ago. May and Ned, the two people whom he loved most in the world. May and Ned, who were invaluable to him, but held no significant power when it came to changing the world.
Peter closed his eyes to prevent the rush of tears. It seemed his physicality could change when he felt devastation. With these words, he was losing his emotional support as he knew them. May would go back to being the fun aunt who had no idea he was Spider-Man. Ned would be the happy-go-lucky best friend, not the traumatized sorcerer and programmer who’d grown with him and faced multiversal dangers.
This is my power. This is my responsibility. The Green Goblin was wrong. I am Spider-Man.
“Shuri.” Shuri, his friend, who had lost everything the way Peter had. She deserved a chance for a do-over too. And she could help advance technology to the level it was in space, and help T’Challa and Mr Stark and Mrs Potts influence the UN and the wider world.
“Wise choices,” Reality said, for once sounding solemn.
“And you did not choose selfishly,” Power observed. “Very well, Peter Parker. The best of luck on your mission. We have fulfilled your desire to the best of our abilities.”
“Your happy ending, your future is now up to you,” Reality said, once more sounding entertained.
“Selflessness must be rewarded.” Time said. “And so as a final gift: knowledge of the Time Variance Authority. And Edward Leeds.”
Peter’s blood rushed through his head as more knowledge filled it, and simultaneously joy and relief sprung through him. Ned.
The world filled with the colours of infinity.
It looked like the Soul Stone’s realm.
The six people he’d chosen stood in front of him.
“Pete?” Mr Stark asked, sounding confused. “What’s going on?”
Peter straightened with glorious purpose.
My power. My responsibility.
My happy ending.
“We have a mission,” he began.

Behold, TSAMS AU
"And I want you to remember something. If Sun blasted you and he ended up dead, I will go to every dimension that exists; I don't care if you have the star or not, and every evil version of you, I will make sure is ripped, limb from limb. That will be my life's purpose."
Tumblr media
In our line, Moon swore that if he returned to his dimension and Sun was dead, he would dedicate himself to kill every Eclipse in every dimension relentlessly.
So, in an alternate line where events are similar, what would happen if Sun died after blasting Eclipse into the portal with his power?
In this AU, Moon returned to his dimension only to see Sun had died.
After trying every way to bring his brother back, and failing, Moon decided to fulfill his oath.
Tumblr media
This Moon dedicates himself to travel between dimensions, hunting down every evil Eclipse he can find. Nicknamed through these as "Moonter", by Lunar's idea combining the title "Hunter" with his name. And in a deformed way as "Monster" by the Eclipses who have found out about his existence.
Tumblr media
77 and counting, he records on a handheld device the number of Eclipses he has removed. Likewise, he created an interdimensional communicator with the computers of his dimension, to keep him informed of the total number of Eclipses he has and those that are left, locate the next dimensions, and...
Tumblr media
To contact his family.
Moon lost Sun. He lost him in a short, abrupt time, barely getting to know him since Old Moon's memories in his dimension were erased. He regrets and blames himself every day for losing him. He's never going to forgive himself.
But Moon still has his siblings, Earth and Lunar, waiting for him.
He can't always be there, but he does what he can to visit, to know what they've been doing, to rest, recharge, and obtain more materials and formulate more plans to continue on his mission.
Tumblr media
He won't stop until he has eliminated the last of them.
My beloved friend @leivyathan gave me this awesome idea! And who am I to deny it? Especially if it's about Moon! Thanks to her for helping me with all the inspiration and creativity! We'll both be working on this whenever we have the time!<3
Questions, fanarts, etc are appreciated!

Star Wars AU where the council time travels back to when Obi-Wan was still an itty-bitty baby initiate. Including, you know. Council Member Obi-Wan Kenobi. So they’re all in their younger bodies and talking with the current non-time traveling members of the council, and they’re like “hold on, we got one more coming in”
And in walks in like. Nine year old Initiate Obi-Wan, all chubby-cheeked with fluffy bright red hair, and giant blue eyes.
Just. Their faces, okay?
Now keep in mind I want the council to always be Up To Shenanigans. I’m talking like 2015 Avengers tower found family era fics okay, they’re one big family and Obi-Wan is now super officially The Baby and literally nothing he does will ever stop that again. And despite everything, every single council member is, at heart, incredibly petty in that special Jedi family way and are so ready to not be dealing with a war Right This Very Minute.
What I keep picturing is Baby-Wan wiggling his way into a chair, situating himself Very Regally, then clasping his hands in classic Negotiator style, then speaking up with the Most Serious Of Tiny Baby Voices as the main spokesperson on the Council Of Petty Time Travelers
I just want to see people not in the know
I want Jedi of all ages witnessing Jedi masters, councilmen and women, long lived and wisest of the Jedi, coming to the crèche to visit tiny lil Baby-Wan about his opinions on current events and how they should handle this treaty and also when are you free I want to test my soresu
I just think it’d be funny

It was a late Thursday night. You were in the living room, reading a novel you bought with Steve and Wanda days ago. Peter was also in the room. He was sitting on the carpeted ground next to the center table in front of you, doing some kind of presentation for his class and you don’t really understand it. It has something to do with his accessible, small computer. A laptop! You remembered he called it that.
It was pretty peaceful and quiet. The only sound that can be heard is the kid’s fingers typing on the keyboard and the soft, cool blows of the air conditioner. You were finishing a chapter of this book when you heard a…
“Oh, fuck.”
Instantly, you turned your head up from the book. Peter paused too. You two turned your heads in the direction of where that curse came from. That’s when you see the culprit.
“Steve!”
The First Avenger, who’s holding a tray of drinks, looked up at you.His eyebrows furrowed together as he asked, “What?”
“Can you please watch your language? There is a kid in here.” you scolded him in a very serious and offended tone.
Both Steve and Peter moved their eyes around the room, looking for the kid you were pertaining to.
“What kid?” he replied, both curious and defensive.
You lift a finger, pointing to the other person in the room, “Peter’s here. Adults don’t curse around minors. Apologize to him.”
Hearing that, both Peter’s eyebrows raised.
“What? No– Dr. Y/N, it’s fine–”
“No, that was inappropriate.”
Considering your era, Steve definitely understands your slight disappointment with the language he just used. It was less socially acceptable in the 40s to swear. He remembered scolding Tony before because of the same thing when he was still adjusting to this century. So Steve sighed,
“I’m sorry.”
“I-It’s no problem, Cap.” Peter stutters, surprised that the older man really apologized.
You only nodded at that, “Anyways, I’m going to my room. Good night, boys.”
You were yawning as you walked away Steve stood there dumbfoundedly with the tray of drinks. Peter just watched him, waiting for him to do something. The drinks were hot chocolate that he was supposed to offer to you and the younger hero. But since you left already, Steve looked back at Peter.
“Hot choco?”
Tumblr media
“Strawberries?”
“No, thanks.”
That morning, you seemed a bit distant to Steve and everyone can notice it. No one knows why but Peter has an idea although he thought it was not a big deal. You also thought that maybe it’s not a big deal. But you had a hard time sleeping last night, thinking about everything that changed at this time. Swearing and a lot more things seem normal here. You wondered if you can adapt to it as you felt like an alien wandering in this new world you’re in. Admittedly, you thought that maybe you overreacted with Steve’s language. You felt guilty as you were the one who was new here, yet you still apply whatever customs you have from the 40s to him. You don’t know if you should apologize or what.
Steve quietly placed a cup of coffee next to your bowl. But you were too occupied in your head, you didn’t notice it. You stood to get yourself a glass of orange juice and Steve never looked so dejected. The other people watched silently until Tony snapped his fingers, making everyone look at him.
“Okay, what is going on?”
He was moving his eyes from you to Steve when he asked that. Your eyebrow raised while Steve stayed quiet.
The younger Stark continued, “Y/N is clearly ignoring you and you are obviously trying to be extra nice to her this morning. What happened?”
“I’m not ignoring him!” you unintentionally exclaimed.
Natasha smirked. Sam snickers with Peter while you hear Bucky chuckle lowly, shaking his head. You turned your head to Steve, “Am I?”
You were really unaware. That’s when you see his expression that says a lot: dispirited and unsure. Suddenly, another voice spoke.
“Cap cursed last night.”
Everyone turned their heads to Peter who was munching on the cookies you made the other night. It was stocked in the refrigerator.
“What?” Bruce asked since he thought he heard something else. Just like everyone in the room.
But Steve already justified himself, “It was accidental. I stubbed my toe on the corner of the counter while I was trying to do something nice.”
“What did he say? What did he say?” Tony grinned like a kid. He loved to have something new to tease Steve with.
“Peter, no,” Steve told him sternly. You were still standing with your orange juice, crossing your arm. At this point, you don’t care if he would say it since it seems normal here.
“Peter, yes.”
It was Sam who added more fuel to the fire, earning a glare from Steve. The youngest stood there in the spotlight as everyone waited for him to answer. He finished putting the Tupperware of cookies in his backpack before replying,
“He dropped the f-bomb.”
A series of laughs and amused oh’s followed. You just stood there, confused, while Steve looked down at his oatmeal.
“I’m going to school. Bye, everyone. Thanks for the cookies, doc!” Peter walked out, waving his hand.
Breakfast went on with Tony picking on Steve. You later learned from Natasha that their leader used to have a habit of telling everyone language if they say a swear word. Somehow, the weight on your shoulder lightened when you heard that story.
“So, does that means you hate dirty talks?” Tony brought up with his pancakes almost done. Pepper failed to shush him as she didn’t expect to hear that.
You tilted your head quizically, “Dirty… talks? What is that?”
Dirty talks? What does it mean? Is it a form of teasing? Bullying?
Steve stood up from his seat, putting his bowl on the sink. “You know what? It’s early in the morning. Let’s not talk about that.”
You followed behind him, placing yours too. “What? Why? What does it mean, Steve?”
His jaw clenched and you can see his cheeks slowly showing a tint of pink. He meets your eyes for a quick second before looking away. Everyone in the room is silent too. Don’t they know what it means? You wondered.
“Yeah, Cap. Tell Dr. Y/N about it.” Tony spoke with what seemed like a mocking tone.
“Shut up, Stark.”
Steve held your hand and dragged you away from the kitchen while you remained baffled.
Tumblr media
Just days later, you were baking another batch of cookies with Peter waiting on the kitchen counter as your personal food taster. The other are out for their own mission, including Steve, while a few were taking a rest in their respective rooms. The Spider-kid, you heard it is what Sam calls him, was grinning and clapping on his seat like a seal as you two heard the sound of the oven.
You were too excited that you only reached for one oven mitten, thinking you can get the hot baking tray with a single hand. But just when one of the cookies looks like it’s going to slide out of the tray, you instinctively pushed it back with your bare finger. Immediately feeling the burn on your skin, you dropped the tray— thankfully on the kitchen island.
“Fuckshit!” you exclaimed before you put that finger in your lips as if that would help.
You were still recovering from the shock and hurt when you notices Peter’s surprised stare and blushed cheeks. As you realized what just happened, you slowly put down your fingers. The boy can see your jaw gaping as your eyes widened before hiding your face in your hands. He was having a blast, holding his stomach as he laughed.
“You–”
Before he can finish any sentence he was going to say, you shushed him off.
“You heard nothing, kid!” you spoke as you point your index finger at him. You cannot stop yourself from smiling as you tell him that. “I’ll continue feeding you my baked goods if you say heard nothing.”
Peter grinned, stifling a laugh, “I… heard nothing, Doctor Y/N.”
That’s how an accomplice was born.

yesterday i had a glorious fucking migraine and i had thoughts about au of the time travel tobirama au
basically what if Tobirama fails and dies like about a year after the marriage with Madara. Konoha is building and everything, everyone is happy and then Tobirama fucking dies.
I didn't think of the reason, but maybe he was killed in battle or smth. Maybe by some clan like idk Shimura :)
(prob bc of Black Zetsu)
So, expectedly, Madara loses his fucking mind and it's even worse than when Izuna died, cuz they're supposed to be at peace what the fuck. Madara tries to raze the entire clan responsible for his sweet husband's death.
Hashirama doesn't let him do that and Madara leaves the village, where Black Zetsu catches onto him.
So basically, canon, but Tobirama was never Niidaime and Izuna lived.
The second Hokage would be, idk, Itama, who's fucking terrified and he didn't signed up for this shit!
But yeah, he's the Niidaime and he does everything in his power to implement everything Tobirama wanted to do for the village. And it's a lot. A LOT. Honestly like the dude knew he's gonna be a Hokage one day, he left MANY notes.
Itama appoints Kagami as his successor, cuz that's what Tobirama would want.
Danzo, being a bitch at the Uchiha clan, since Madara had a huge beef with his clan, kills Kagami, takes his eyes, makes it mission accident yada-yada, Itama appoints Hiruzen the next Hokage.
Idk why Itama left the position, but he never wanted it anyway. He did everything his brother wanted and peaced out to go smoke.
So, the canon happens.
The 4th war happens.
Orochimaru raises the dead Hokage, but not only him, Tobirama is there too, since he was super smart and his personal fav.
"Oh fuck, not again," Tobirama said, hiding his face in his hand. Everyone thought that's about the time Orochimaru made him fight in the Konoha crush on chuunin exams. He choose him over Itama, cuz even though Itama is a good Hokage, but he's a healer for the most part and not that useful on the battlefield.
Sasuke asks his questions and then he asks Tobirama.
"Uchiha Tobirama. The history says that you were married off to the Uchiha clan, to Madara, against your will and then took the suicide mission after a year in marriage. Is this true? You hated the Uchiha so much that you killed yourself?"
"I did what"
"Well, you were the one who created Uchiha Police Force..." Orochimaru said.
"First of all, I planned it to go further than the Uchiha and to supervise it myself. At the first stages it was supposed to be only Uchiha because it was one of the most competent clans to do this job and my clan that I trusted. Second of all, 'against my will'? Seriously?! I did not chase Madara since I was 9 to write our marriage off as a political marriage! What the fuck!"
Everyone, except Hashirama and Itama looked shocked at this confession.
"Where IS my husband? Trying to avenge my death to the whole world?"
"Uh, yeah.."
"Of fucking course. I should've left him a note specifically saying that he needs to be in the fucking village and take care of our clan. Now what? Our clan is just one a vengeful child!"
Tobirama paused, feeling up the battlefield.
"And one more Uchiha who lost his shit. Of fucking course"
Everyone shocked, cuz Tobirama had a reputation who hated Uchiha, cuz his brother married him off to them as a peace offering. Then Sasuke makes Hashirama talk about all this talk about village, Hokage, shinobi yada yada yada
Senju brothers are PISSED at Hiruzen and Danzo (thank fuck he's dead right). Hiruzen looked remorseful and said that he knew that everyone expected Kagami to become Hokage and not him.
Ok, so!
Tobirama was the fastest one to rush to the battle field. He had a feral husband to calm down.
He arrived and just stood before Madara, who froze in shock.
"Husband, come here," Tobirama said, opening his arms. Alliance is just standing there gaping cuz what the fuck
Madara didn't notice Tobirama at first, since he masked his chakra by habit. But even then he was exited to meet Hashirama and fight once more. But then he sees Tobirama and FUCK all these plans, his huband is here!!!
Madara just crushed into Tobirama. He had no idea that Tobirama could've been edo tensei'ed the whole time!
"Calm down, dear. What have you done here?" Tobirama asked, petting his husband's hair.
"I just wanted to bring you back..."
"Oh dear... You stupid, stupid man," Tobirama shook his head and kissed him, while the whole Alliance watches shocked.
And this is a story how Tobirama stopped the 4th war singlehandedly.
Ofc there's Obito, but they sic Naruto on him and it's all good. Though Black Zetsu tried something, but Tobirama is fucking READY for him. He will avenge his husband's sanity.
Before they go to Pure Lands again, Tobirama said to Tsunade, Kakashi and Naruto "Fucking fix your history books! I love my husband since I was 9!" (he actually didn't, but no one should know about it, okay)
And Madara is there just clinging to Tobirama with all his body and refusing to let go. He doesn't care about Eternal Tsukuyomi anymore, cuz he can hug his husband once more.
Migraine AUs sure are interesting

I'm going with 10 All Time Classics from the Captain America (MCU) fandom. I mean, they're all classics to me, at least. In no particular order:
1. This, You Protect by owlet
First installment in the Infinite Coffee and Protection Detail series, which are all amazing. It's a “Bucky escaping Hydra and rebuilding his sense of self” fic, which he does while spying on Steve. With eventual Avengers Family and a lovely cast of OCs bonding with Bucky in the meantime. It has a very distinctive perspective and writing style; Bucky's in constant internal (and sometimes accidentally external) dialogue with himself, making it hilarious and tragic all at the same time. I love it. I've recently been getting into The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells and this Bucky has a similar sassy-but-vulnerable vibe? Read this if you like that, anyway.
2. The One Who Knows by Dira Sudis (dsudis)
This is a Political Animals AU, in that no-powers Steve is inserted into the Political Animals world and Bucky is TJ. Discusses being outed and depression but is ultimately hopeful. The author is one of my all time faves and has written lots of great stories for this and many other fandoms.
3. Blue Scales by chaya
Steve is a merman AU. He's still Captain America, though. It's crack with heart, I love it.
Best line: "May your scales and your love story be our weird secret forever.”
4. Our Lingering Frost by eyres
AU where Bucky is rescued from Hydra in the 50s (?) and so is around for Steve to be found.
5. Assets Out of Containment by follow_the_sun
It's a classic to *me*, OK? Bucky goes undercover at Jurassic World just as that movie's plot kicks off. They're Hydra dinosaurs! It's just great. Also has a podfic and crossovers with Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
6. Not Easily Conquered (series) by dropdeaddream and WhatAreFears
Some of the greatest fanfiction I've ever read, the whole series is epic. Anyway, it's a "Steve doesn't go into the ice" AU with added queer angst when (never sent) love letters from Bucky resurface. I particularly like the second installment in the series The Thirteen Letters, which are just Bucky's letters and are insanely well-written.
7. to memory now I can't recall by Etharei
Time travel AU! Featuring post-CATWS Bucky accidentally switching places with CATFA era Bucky.
8. If Wishing Made It So by Leveragehunters (Monkeygreen)
Genie!Bucky AU! This author is great at writing AUs with fantasy/genre elements, it was hard to choose. They've also written an excellent werewolf!Steve AU and a horse!Steve AU that I really love.
9. Into That Good Night by Nonymos
An Interstellar AU! Very angsty and tragic but with an eventual happy ending.
10. Goodbye Piccadilly, Farewell Leicester Square by Speranza
Speranza must be one of the best writers in the fandom, so it was hard to pick just one of their fics. Other strong contenders were All the Angels and the Saints and The Fifties, so check those out too! But this one has a special place in my heart. Steve, Tony and Natasha accidentally time travel to WW2 London, leading to an accidental run-in with CATFA-era Bucky. The author does tragic and romantic time travel tropes so well, but with a happy ending.
I now realise that most of these are AUs, so here’s a bonus rec for a non-AU in-universe story that’s severely underrated and deserves more love:
+1
Heart, Have No Pity on this House of Bone by Sena
This story follows Bucky in-action in the Pacific Theatre. It’s very well written and, from what I can tell, well researched. Steve only appears in Bucky’s imagination and the story focuses on the horrors of war rather than romance, but it’s gripping! And it explores unrequited love, being closeted and period-typical homophobia, which I also enjoyed. I’m still holding out hope for a sequel.

Hello so uh I've been going crazy for over a week now cause I was searching for this fic that I wanted to finish reading. I forgot the name of the fic and don't know the name of the author. I also didn't bookmarked it. Anyway, it's a Fix-it. So, a lot of people (Loki, Peter, Tony, Wanda, Stephen, and more I think) time travelled back before Infinity War, though they came from different timelines. That's all I know about the fic so far.
Okay, I'm not sure if this is the fic, but is it this one?
Z to A (ao3) - memoriaeterna wanda/vision, pepper/tony T, 88k
Summary: The moment of disorientation was nothing compared to the next thing he saw. He was standing in the midst of an airport, looking directly at a girl with the familiar red leather coat. The mutual recognition was instant. Leipzig.   Or, Peter and Wanda sent back in time to stop the inevitable. Good news: they are not alone. Bad news: who and from when.

“What?” Stella’s face drained of the little colour it had. She turned her head to look, but Phyl could be reasonably sure that Stella couldn't see anything other than the men behind her.  They had the benefit of screening Stella from the view of their tail as well.
“He's about a block back; he can't see us right now. The alley by the train, does it go up to the next block north of yours?
“Y-yes.”
Phyl glanced behind them again and tried to judge what might be in their pursuer’s field of vision. “Okay, this way, quickly.”
I'm hoping to put up one chapter approximately every week. Maybe a little less than that, depending if I want to drag this out for another 18 weeks. ;)
