Part 2/2
Just a continuation of the thread about how women’s looks are weaponized against them in court.
TO BE CRYSTAL CLEAR- marginalized groups like disabled and BIPOC and queer people are at MUCH HIGHER RISK of abuse and are treated exponentially worse by the justice system. This post is not equating treatment of conventionally attractive women to marginalized groups!!! This is pointing out the discrepancy between the arguments made against ab*se survivors. And how those upholding white supremacy and patriarchy will use anything and everything to justify the harm others.

it’s been real fred finch ✌️… almost 5 years working with system-involved youth and families at this agency. first with a short-term, intensive, behavioral program and then with a longer term therapy program - all done in the community (homes, schools, parks, etc). it was through the last program i learned how much i loved (in-person) family therapy. so when looking for my next job move, i prioritized it, along with other serious criteria like less exhausting workweek hours & paperwork, more pay, benefits, and in-house training/support/sense of community. if you haven’t heard from me in awhile, it’s bc of this time-consuming transition, closing with families i’ve considered my own and deliberately casting my job search net wide to find the right fit. although i’ll be in a bougie group practice now (with middle-class folks 😬), my nervous system can hopefully get some relieve from long workweeks and crap pay (thx neoliberal and libertarian policies relentlessly gutting our social/economic welfare system supporting the needed services found within community mental heath). i know i may have complained about fred finch especially towards the end, but it has given me so many sweet clinical skills, lifelong compas, a path to licensure, and a secure employment home base soon after returning home from nyc and during the pandemic. will miss those sweet benefits, that gorgeous campus and views and located only a mile from my first home, and ofc my families 💜❤️‍🩹 #communitymentalhealth #fredfinch #nonprofitindustrialcomplex #transitionalobjects #warmhandoffs #oaklandbeauty #socialworkerpride #licensedtogetpaid #theBaybepricey #familytherapy #groupwork #healing #traumainformedcare #attachmentbasedtherapy #efft #hopetolearnifsnow (at Bay Area, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/CobswsuOgSDHXaTtKq-6yytwv_Y-2BZYcTB9vI0/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Child abuse can leave deep emotional and psychological scars that last a lifetime. Many survivors face ongoing struggles with anxiety, depression, and trust issues, stemming from their traumatic experiences. It's vital to recognize the long-term effects of child abuse and provide supportive environments for healing and recovery. By raising awareness and fostering open conversations about this issue, we can help break the cycle of trauma and empower survivors to reclaim their lives. Let's come together to promote understanding, compassion, and healing for those affected by child abuse.

Trauma and Violence Studies at University of Glasgow: Healing Individuals and Communities
Tumblr media
From conflict zones to marginalized communities, I wanted to actively support trauma recovery efforts. The University of Glasgow’s highly respected Trauma and Violence Studies program provided intensive, comprehensive training blending psychotherapy practice with community-based research.
Glasgow professors challenged me to interpret diverse cultural experiences of trauma, from the collective memory of genocide survivors to the erasure of voices caused by systemic oppression. Course projects had us collaborating with amazing Glasgow-based groups, from refugee networks to youth violence intervention efforts.
Tumblr media
A truly transformative moment was the month I spent in the highlands co-facilitating art therapy groups for marginalized youth. Watching individuals grow and heal through creative expression reshaped my entire conception of trauma therapy’s power to uplift communities.
Thanks to Glasgow’s vocational focus, upon graduating I immediately joined a local collective providing trauma-informed care. If you feel called to focus your psychology degree on mutual healing and empowerment, I cannot recommend Glasgow’s program enough, a genuine life-changing Envoy Study Overseas journey made possible by Envoy Education guidance.

It’s critical to understand this distinction. In the special education world so much is about what is “wrong” or needs to be corrected in a child. One of the worst labels is “Emotionally Disturbed” (an actual legal designation). When I first encountered it it, I was repulsed… it sounds like there is something defective with these kids. I came to realize that there wasn’t anything defective about these kids; rather, these are people who’ve experienced severe trauma or traumas. They are doing the best they can within their innate human survival response systems. The work not only is to see their challenges and provide support, but also to see their gifts and talents and to celebrate them. #Repost @bethtyson_traumaconsulting ・・・ I know this will be controversial, but I whole-heartedly believe that being trauma-informed and healing-centered means that we view mental health challenges through the lens of what happened to us and not what’s wrong with us. Labeling children with disorders only layers shame on top of shame. I understand the way our insurance works is to give out diagnoses, but that doesn’t make them true. March is Brain Injury Awareness 💚 it’s very near and dear to my heart and life. 💚This is a very vulnerable post, I haven’t shared this before but you will get to know me and what I’m passionate about through these posts. 💚This disability isn’t obvious or apparent but it does exist. I not only suffer from the side effects from this accident but also with ADHD. 💚#ableism is prevalent in our society along with the vast systems that have been in place to further oppress the underdogs. If you’ve been following me you know I don’t do black and white thinking. Everything and everyone has a gray area. 💚A reminder to be gentle, kind and compassionate to those you meet. #neurodivergent #neurodivergentaf #traumaticbraininjury #tbi #brainhealth #adhd #traumainformed #traumainformedyogateacher #traumainformedcare #ptsd #aphasia #selflove #selfacceptance #compassion #kindness #disability (at Granada Hills, CA 91344) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpaQ0tmLwpz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

What Is Trauma-Informed Care
✨ "What Is Trauma-Informed Care?" ✨
Ever heard of Trauma-Informed Care but not sure what it means? 🧠💙 It’s more than just therapy – it’s a mindset that focuses on safety, empowerment, and respect for people navigating trauma. Mental health professionals using this approach recognize that trauma shapes how we think, feel, and act – and they adapt their support accordingly.
One exciting method is called TIST (Trauma-Informed Stabilization Treatment), which helps clients manage complex trauma with care and precision. It’s a way of healing that emphasizes not just treating the symptoms, but restoring a sense of control and well-being 🌱.
Curious to know more about how trauma-informed care is transforming mental health? 📖 Dive deeper and discover how empathy and empowerment can make all the difference! 💬👇
