2025/03/27 青春はいちどだけ？

今日は早番だった。今朝方、いつものように英会話関係��Zoomミーティングに参加し、さわやかに英語脳をきたえる。この英会話グループに参加して、こうして参加できる時にいそいそとZoomミーティングに参加するようになってかれこれ2年かそこら経つだろうか。これはお世辞やおべんちゃらではなく本気で書くけれど、このグループにぼくはたしかな居心地の良さを感じる。というのは、やはり参加されている方々が英語力を向上させる熱意を示されていることがぼくのような「ぼんくら」にも刺激として伝わるからだろう。ぼくはどうだろうか……何度もこのミーティングに参加するうちにぼくもそれなりに・少しばかりスキル（技量）を向上させられたかなあとは思う。いやもちろんまだ完成形にはほど遠いし、そこに至るまで（そんなところにぼくが存命中にた���り着けるかどうかわからないが、いずれにせよ）もっと頑張らないといけないことはたしかなのだけれど。なんにせよ、このミーティングを実現されている方々の尽力には文字どおり頭が下がるし、「足を向けては眠れない」というものだ。ありがとうございます。

今朝のミーティングのテーマは、ぼくたちが満腹の状態であったとしても砂糖（糖分）を欲しがってしまう、つまりは「別腹」と呼ばれる心理状態がどう生起するかというメカニズムについてだった。そこから偽薬効果（プラシーボ効果、というやつです）の話などいろいろ多岐にわたって話が展開した。いろんな側面からこの現象を解き明かして説明することはできるのだろう。でも、ぼくは（さっきも書いたがいかんせん「ぼんくら」なので）これが非理性的でバカげたことのようにも感じる。でも「別腹」と呼ばれる心理状態とぼくはもちろん無縁ではない。脳が砂糖を欲しがる、その欲求に逆らえない心理は痛いほどわかるつもりだ。だから今朝方の仕事中はそもそもぼくという人間それ自体がとても理性的とは言えない、合理的に説明がつかないことばかりしてしまったり時間やカネの無駄としか思えないことをやめられなかったりすることについてあれこれ考えてしまった……というか、「こんなこと」を考えること自体およそ理性的ではないのである。もっと考えることがあるだろうとも思うが（4月からの身の振り方をどうするかとか）、こんな性分なのだから「笑って許して」としか言いようがな��。

たとえば、これまたいつも書いていることをおさらいすることになるけれど、ぼくはコロナ禍のころに始めた「英語メモ」を日々の生活の中でつけることを欠かさない（というか、やめようと思ってもついつい書いてしまうのだ）。もちろんここは日本でぼくは日本人なのだから、そんなことに意味はとくにない。でも、英語はぼくにとってなぜか「心の中のゴミ」を外に吐き出してしまい、アウトプットするための良き触媒というかツールであり続けているようだ。そして、気取った言い方をするがマルマンのメモパッドと手頃なフリクションペンはぼくにとってそうしたアウトプットのための「デバイス（機器）」である（それらがないと、この気まぐれな脳はすぐに考えたことをきれいさっぱり忘れてしまい、思い出せなくなる）。ぼくはチャットGPTのようなAIではない。矛盾に満ちた、ランダムとさえ言える存在だ。いや、人間とはおしなべてそうであるんだろうとも思うけれど。

ここまで書いて、メモパッドを開き英語メモを読み返す。そして、さっそく大事なことをきれいさっぱり忘却してしまっていたことに気づく。というのは昨日の話になるが、職場でせっせと仕事をしていたときにある大事な友だちとふと出くわしたのだった。彼はぼくに対して、いつも英語メモを書き書きしていることについて、そこからぼくの熱意を読み取られたらしく「いつも励まされています」「頑張ってください」とおっしゃった。もちろんそれは非常に面映ゆいことで、他人とこうして結べたコネクション（絆）のありがたみをあらためて感じさせられ、それがとりもなおさずもう人生も後半戦にさしかかっているはずのぼくをあらためて前へ前へと進ませるブースターになっているのかなあ、とかなんとか思っちゃったりした。というか、もうぼくも今年で50になるのにこんな友情をたしかめられるのだから人生というものはわからないと思う。

その後、仕事もなんとか終わり部屋に戻り、夕飯に酢豚をいただいた後に7時半から毎週木曜日恒例のZoomミーティングに参加する。こんかいのミーティングでは小イベントとして「ビブリオバトル」を楽しむ。各メンバーがそれぞれ好きな本を持ち寄り、5分間のプレゼンテーションをおこなってそれでそれをもとにワイワイとディスカッションに興じるという企画だった。この日記でも折に触れて書いてきたが、ぼくは袖川裕美『同時通訳はやめられない』という平凡社新書を紹介する。他の方々の本から、それぞれのメンバーの個性がうかがえ楽しい会となったと思った。ありがとうございます。
