Today, I’m calling attention to and disrupting the religious violence trans people experience everyday in every U.S. state, and is pushed internationally by evangelists. Religious based anti-Trans violence is part of a culture of the ongoing belittling and minimizing of Trans folks through a lens that says, not even our God(s) would claim you. Transphobia is not only the positive presence of violence, but also the complicit silence and dismissal of issues that allow harmful, violent, and dehumanizing acts and white supremacist theology and culture to be perpetuated. (Note: This disproportionately affects our siblings who are black and brown.) . This #TransphobiaIsASin campaign is led by @ladydanefe and @jmaseiii, who are the co-authors of @theblacktransprayerbook. Thank you for showing up for us today. . Religious based anti-Trans violence is legislating against Trans bodies with white supremacist theologies, it is clergy demanding a young person be kicked out of their home because they are Trans, it is forcing Trans people into “corrective” therapy, it is US Evangelists traveling around the world to push anti-Trans laws and policies internationally, it is the person on the street attacking a Black Trans woman/femme using the same dehumanizing tactics they learned from the pulpit, it is trying to beat the boy or the girl out of a gender non-conforming child, it is part of a culture of the ongoing belittling and minimizing of Trans folks through a lens that says, not even our God(s) would claim you. Anti-Trans Religious based violence is in every US state, in every country around the world and impacts Trans people regardless of whether we ourselves identify as religious. It is imperative that we celebrate, center and love on trans people. Period! And it is important to remember humanity has no future without us. The #transphobiaisasin campaign through disrupting the religious based violence that trans people face is also invested in being a gift to our collective memory, to remind us that trans people deserve to be loved, and affirmed, and have a right to agency, autonomy, healing and a world free of oppression and the forces that perpetuate anti-trans violence.
