an example of the hungarian language written using the yiddish alphabet. this is an early 20th century embroidery on velvet.
it reads "boldogult / jó anyák emlékére / zahar pál és neje" (trans. "in memory of our deceased, good mother / zahar pál and his wife").
#the english is not the most eloquent as hungarian is hard to translate#but i tried my best#jumblr#judaism#jewish#hungarian#hungary#jewish languages#jewish aesthetics

Have you ever read the english ver and if so im curious how the french version compares? (and woah looove the blanket :3 looks so cosy)
#ive read some hungarian translations of english books that were so much harder to read translated rhan in the original language#and some that went through the effort of translating idioms and jokes to fit too#translated copies are always a mixed bag for me xD#how much of inheritances plot have you remember so far sksjs#so much of it caught me off guard when i first went back for a full reread#i had a photographic memory of the first 3 books and straight up forgot 60% of the last one#finn.txt#ask#saecookie#treasured mutuals <3

Might have made a friend due to the huge ass bloodborne embroidery on the back of my jacket, today truly is a win for little old me <3
#was just giving classroom keys over to a guy and he noticed the big 'our eyes are yet to open' on me#and we started talking#he invited me to play fallout ttrpg with them on Tuesdays#so that's fun#he's also in translation and interpreting but with Hungarian-English-German language combo#I'm on Hungarian-Russian-English#so we don't have any seminars in common#oh how luck plays a hand in getting me new friends!#he's the very first person who recognised the embroidery even though I've been wearing it for years#on an unrelated note#I am sooooo tired#I haven't had time to draw in 6 weeks#and when I did have one free afternoon I straight up just couldn't draw I was so exhausted and wound up#I need to get fully fluent in Russian by the end of this year or else I will combust#but idk how to do that other than by consuming copious amounts of fanfic and novels in it and rewatching arcane w/ Russian dub 648213 times#I'm on a C1 level I just make a shitton of mistakes and my active vocabulary is at most half the size of my passive one#and that was life updates by me!!! I miss being here and I miss bloodborne aaaaa#I hope you guys are doing well <3#posts from yahar'gul

Okay so, hear me out, Inheritance Cycle stuff below with spoilers, but the series was finished in like, 2011, so eat your spoilers
Brom was heavily influenced by Morzan in his youth, right? Following the other like a duckling. Also, his partner dragon, Saphira I, was blue. He named his baby dragon Blue when he was thirteen, which is a kinda thirteen year old move.
BUT. There was older and super cool Morzan there with his red dragon. I bet that he even helped choosing Brom a name for his hatchling. I also bet that before the banishing of the names the dragon was called Scarlet or Ruben, or something like that.
Fear the mighty pupils of Glaedr, Red and Blue!
#inheritance cycle#morzan#brom#saphira#morzan's dragon#the world of eragon#i read the books translated so i didn't know the official term 'the banishing of the names'#i had to look it up#thankfully i know the og term in the old tongue (du namar aurboda if you must know) and it was one swift search#i mean. i fucked up last week in class bc i forgot a significant event in hungarian history#but i know the name of significant events in fantasy worlds in more than one language!#tonhal pofázik

I just realized how much language matters when you try to reach a certain chapter length.
I wrote a text in hungarian, then with a help of an online translator I made an english version. Same draft, same writing, except the english version was almost 200 words longer, and I didn’t even start doing the corrections to make it sound more natural.
The hungarian language really likes to condense the meaning into a fewer words, so it’s not that suprising (english sentences have a lot of filler words), but still. A 200 words difference.
And here was I wondering why it’s so painful to reach the same wordcount I see on english fanfics.
#hungarian#language#to be fair hungarian words can be so long at first glance it barely makes a difference#writing#writer things#writer stuff#writer struggles#language differences#translator#words

Sometimes randomly at 3 am (like last night lol) I have the sudden really strong urge to translate all fanfics I liked, because I single handedly have to create the Hungarian fandom and also these masterpieces have to exist in the most majestic language humankind have ever known...
Just... why?!

why does it matter so much what language are you reading a story in, it should be the same story!! but it does, oh it does.
#tumblr kept raving on about how pretty the prose in Autoboyography is and I didn't understand because it was really nothing special to me#but now I'm finding quotes in English and hello??? this is so pretty and poetic and it sounds so good#but I read it in Hungarian and now I'm mad at missing out on this#the story was still touching and the pacing good but the phrasing is just so much better in the original#and I was noticing things that made me go even while reading huh this translation isn't very good now is it#but it matter this much??? ahhh#will I just have to read all books on its source language now?#also I always wonder about the role of my personal interpretation and perception of reading things in different languages#based on like. I'm more detached in English so uncomfortable topics and expressing emotions are easier to tackle like that#but then I'd expect that romance hits harder in my native language because it has the power to deliver the emotions better#was it just the bad translation or is this something?#in this phd proposition I will. . .#anyway the book is about a queer not-mormon and a not-queer mormon falling in love on brandon sanderson's writing class.#would recommend it was very interesting#miaing

Alan Walker feat. Sophie Simmons - Lovesick (lyrics) + Malay translate🌹❤️
Adapted from Johannes Brahms' "Hungarian Dance No.5"
Lit. "Mabuk Cinta"
Intro
Verse 1:
Every night before I sleep
Tiap malam sebelum aku tidur
I pray that you will come to me
Ku berdoa agar kau datang padaku
A million, million miles away
Berjuta-juta jauhnya
We'll meet again someday
Kita berjumpa lagi satu hari nanti
I know that we'll find a way
Ku tahu kita akan cari jalannya
We'll sing a bitter melody
Kita nyanyikan sebuah melodi pahit
And add a sweeter harmony
Dan dengan harmoni yang manis
A symphony we make
Sebuah simponi yang kita cipta
Chorus:
So sing for all the tears we cry
Jadi nyanyilah untuk segala air mata yang kita tangisi
A song for when we say goodbye
Lagu untuk kita ucap selamat tinggal
Then everytime we close our eyes
Dan tiap kali kita lelapkan mata kita
We'll hear our lovesick lullaby
Kita dengar lagu pengantar tidur cinta kita
Verse 2:
I remember what you said
Ku ingat kata-katamu
I got you stuck in my head
Aku membuatmu mengingatimu di kepalaku
Did you think I would forget
Apa kau fikir aku melupakan
The melodies you sang?
Melodi yang kau nyanyikan?
Oh, babe
Oh, sayang
Like nobody moves me
Bagaikan tiada siapa yang gerakkan aku
You're playing my heart stings
Kau mainkan dan hatiku disengat
Like, la-da-di-da-da
Seperti, la-da-di-da-da
Chorus:
So sing for all the tears we cry
Jadi nyanyikan untuk segala air mata yang kita tangisi
A song for when we say goodbye
Lagu untuk kita ucap selamat tinggal
Then everytime we close our eyes
Dan tiap kali kita lelapkan mata kita
We'll hear our lovesick lullaby
Kita dengar lagu pengantar tidur cinta kita
Bridge:
(3x) La-la-la, la-la, la-la
La-la-la, la-la, la-la...
We'll hear our lovesick lullaby (la-la-la, la-la, la-la...)
Kita dengar lagu pengantar tidur cinta kita
(la-la-la, la-la, la-la...)
Chorus:
Sing for all the tears we cry
Nanyilah untuk segala air mata yang kita tangisi
A song for when we say goodbye
Lagu untuk kita ucap selamat tinggal
Then everytime we close our eyes
Dan tiap kali kita lelapkan mata kita
We'll hear our lovesick lullaby
Kita dengar lagu pengantar tidur cinta kita

szétszórt vagyok - napoleon boulevard eng translation
Szétszórt vagyok, | i am scattered Festem a szám, | i paint my mouth A testem kiégett, | my body is burned out Kellek-e egy éjszakára? | do i need a night? Nézz nyugodtan rám, | look at me calmly Megmutatom magam, | i'll show you myself Nem fogsz csalódni | you will not be disappointed Nincsen miért szégyenkeznem | i have nothing to be ashamed of Szép lányok, szép álmok | beautiful girls, beautiful dreams Szétfestett arcok | painted faces Szép lábak, kínzó vágyak | beautiful legs, tantalizing desires Szép város, alszol | beautiful city, you sleep Jól megy a bolt | business is going well Minden eladó | everything is for sale Csak az a kérdés | the only question is Hogy belőlem mit veszel meg | what you'll take from me Miért nem szabad | why can't you Elmondanod | tell me Kell-e szeretnem | do i need to love Vagy elég leszek egy éjszakára | or will i be enough for one night Szép lányok, szép álmok | beautiful girls, beautiful dreams Szétfestett arcok | painted faces Szép lábak, kínzó vágyak | beautiful legs, tantalizing desires Szép város, alszol | beautiful city, you sleep
