Now I need to meet a dragon and rider from this world's equivalent of the deep south.

Imagine a rider who talks with a Mississippi accent so thick it's borderline indistinguishable garble and their dragon has to patiently translate half of what they say to people. But the dragon only ever heard that kind of accent for most of their life so even talking with a natural draconic accent it's tinged with slurred syllables and local euphemisms so it's still taking a good amount of effort for anyone not familiar with the region they're from

There is a section in Eldest when Eragon and Saphira are approaching Du Weldenvarden, with Arya and the dwarven guards, and there’s this line from Saphira

“Aye. Here the legends of old still bestride the earth”

Now plenty of humans use “aye”. Dwarves too. It just means “yes”. But Eragon, Roran, Brom, and other carvahall villagers are the ones who use it most, seconded by Orik. I’ll keep an eye out for it but Elves don’t use it as far as I can remember, Arya might have at some point, my memory is foggy, but she’s lived among humans and dwarves for 70 years, so it makes sense if she does. But this is the only occurrence I can think of where a dragon uses it. And while we don’t meet many dragons, so it could be more widespread, it also makes perfect sense in the lore that Saphira would pick up speech patterns from Eragon. She’s a dragon. Proud and Regal. As she says she’s “ancient in her thoughts” but she’s still got a few words from Eragon and perhaps even occasionally slipping into a peasants accent, just like how Eragon gets drunk and somehow starts speaking with a dragons voice at the party following the battle of Farthen Dur. Don’t forget that Eragon was the one who taught Saphira most of her language. I just find the concept wholesome and slightly funny. We always think about how Eragon is influenced by Saphira, but we shouldn’t forget that Saphira is influenced by him too.

I recently read the book Eragon and I liked it so much that I decided to do some character art, first our beloved protagonist, and I'll probably draw Saphira soon after.

if you ever feel like your character names aren’t original or cool enough, just remember that Christopher Paolini named his dragon rider protagonist Eragon - which is just dragon spelled with an E

I'm realizing I never posted any of my cartoony designs of the dragons, as they're pretty old, but this is a draft reference page for Saphira and Firnen's designs. Thorn is below!

Saphira is described as very gifted at flying in the books, so I wanted to make her aerodynamic/lethal looking. Firnen on the other hand is still pretty young, so he's a small lad for now.

Also, a very old Thorn piece. I love him dearly. I have his tail as turning black at the end, where Galby had forcibly regrown it after his battle with Glaedr.

Here is the art of our queen of the skies! This was the first time I drew a dragon, even though I don't have much experience I thought the final result was cool, maybe with time in other arts I'll add more details to Saphira's design, but now I'll move on to the sketch of our favorite old man Brom.
