Why do people keep saying that Judaism does not proselytize?
That Is Demonstrably False.
I believe there was a significant tribal grouping in the Levant that was subjugated and absorbed by the Israelites during the first temple period, and there is little dispute that there was substantial proselytism during the Hasmonean dynasty.
Yet, even putting aside antiquity, you still have people Jews who have proselytize today. You have Outreach Judaism which proselytizes those who it considers non-practicing Jews, encouraging them to become more observant in their Judaism, individuals who may or may not consider themselves Jewish. Then you have a bunch of people connected to Chabad that promote adherence to the Noahide laws. I met a gentile once who was attached to that movement. A friend and I got into an argument with him over the Trinity.
#i was horrified when this came across my dash but thank goodness the proper backlash followed it#jumblr#judaism#antisemitism#christian antisemitism#proselytizing

hi! your pinned post mentions folk magic, do you maybe have a tag for that to glance through? thanks x
hey there, i have a limited amount of posts under “#jewish folk magic” but haven’t spoken all too much about it. i am definitely planning on discussing it more, but i very much do not want to attract negative attention (mainly culture vultures and those engaging in avodah zarah but passing it off as jewish folk practice). i’ve been planning on posting a book recommendation list to do with jewish folk magic and beliefs, i will get around to it soon!

this post has gotten a little more attention again, with many unhappy about the idea that i wouldn’t want awful people dead. my question is, why would i want them to die, still filled with the venom of their hatred? to snuff out their life at the peak of its terribleness, punctuate it with their bigotry?? why wouldn’t i want to give them the time they do have, a lifetime, to reflect upon and possibly wear away at the maliciousness they hold?
i simply cannot understand how so many people around me revel in death. i look at my peers who self-identify as progressives, leftists, activists, etc. and i feel an immense disconnect. i know i should stop being surprised about these kinds of things, but some part of me will never get used to it. no, i don't believe in the death penalty. no, not even for that nazi or that pedophile or that nazi-pedophile. i don't believe killing anyone is ever the right choice. i don't think anything good can come of death. people have and will continue to call me deranged or delusional for it, but i cannot bring myself to see it in any other way.

That moment when you’re on the internet and someone relays a story from the Tanach and are like “y’know that Christian story, from the Christian bible?” And you have to actively refrain from launching your phone across the room.

Iraqi Jewish heart-shaped Amulet bearing the star of David, flower and star ornaments, inscribed with Shaddai שַׁדַּי, one of the names of G-d in Judaism and on the backside the Shema or Shema Yisrael (שְׁמַע יִשְׂרָאֵל "Hear, O Israel"), one of the most central and foundational prayers of Judaism dating to the first millennium B.C.E.. Used to ward off evil spirits (שדים shedim), negative energies, or the "evil eye" (עין הרע ʿayin haraʿ) while honoring the belief that true protection comes from G-d. Iraq, 1910. (png)
