I think it’s so beautiful that in some continuities, Earth is Unicron. Like this has the potential to be handled SO poetically and Transformers Prime actually did a pretty good job (compared with the movies (though if you ignore what the writers were actually going for you could argue those told a poignant and very different type of story in spite of themselves (Autobots and humanity are pure evil, the horrors of empire, etc. (but im four parentheses deep now so I’d better quit while I’m ahead). ). ). ).

Where was I? Ok, imagine you’re an Autobot, homesick and war-weary, but you’ve landed on a planet that isn’t half bad, and you’ve bonded with the natives of this planet more so than most planets in the cosmos. They look nothing like you, yet you click. They even drive around in vehicles that look like you (or that you can turn into, depending on continuity)! How did they know?

You always click with the earthlings, over and over and over throughout time and continuity. Like brothers from another mother.

But they are small, and weak, and have little capability to defend themselves against the greater weapons and forces out there in the cosmos. So you pledge your lives to defend this planet and its species. Earth becomes your home away from home; the Earthlings become your allies, your friends, your families.

And then you discover that the core of this home away from home is FUCKING UNICRON?! The devil from the Bible, greatest enemy of Primus, core of your homeworld???

The Earth’s inhabitants, your family, are by extension Unicron’s children. Oh yeah and suddenly all these human-built constructs which only serve to hurt the majority of their species suddenly start making a whole lot of sense. All their history? Starts making sense. And you realize you’ve let Unicron’s children into your spark and home. What does this mean for you and the future of your species? Do you still trust them? Are they by default pure evil, or is there hope for them? How do you separate them from their evil creator, the very core of their planet?

Naturally, this is the part of the narrative where fucking Unicron starts waking up and we don’t have time to have a crisis of eschatology right now, we’re rather busy trying to postpone eschatology another hundred years.

And the humans seem to be helping us put down the furious waking core of their own planet, hmm, maybe they’re not 100% evil. Maybe the line of good and evil is not so clear cut in this species. Thinking about Primus’ children as pure good does seem rather silly now that we think back on the centuries of war we’ve had.

Idk I just think there’s a lot that can be said here and I have only managed to scratch the surface of THE THEMES in this post. Every time media portrays the core of the earth as alive, it fills me with such a weird, thrilling feeling of meaning. The fact that transformers made it evil adds layers to the meaning. Idk what I’m trying to say yet. Just know that if I were in charge of directing a transformers movie, Unicron would be the slumbering earth’s core, and he would be hungry

Let's be honest. If humans ever find out that the Autobots and Decepticons were real aliens, most of them really don't care. Many folks either have friends, family, classmates or coworkers who are Toons thus nothing can really faze them. Oh? Megatron threatens to blow up the Earth? Cue a bunch of Toons sabotaging EVERYTHING.

War is boring so why not have some fun? Any Cybertronian artifacts on Earth would be deemed irretrievable since they are most likely within the vicinity of a Toon. Only way for anyone to make strides on this insane planet is with help from a human.

Megatron just squirming as trying to catch an organic without alerting one of those THINGS is going to be very very difficult.

Omph, I would say it would depend on the universe. Something like G1 will be for light-hearted when combined with Who Framed Roger Rabbit, but something like TFP or IDW would be darker. I mean, they're not human, so rights for them would be a long process across the century (or longer if we want to delve into a universe where all forms of cartoons were able to come to life).

I personally find it hilarious if there's actually more alien visitors in these kinds of crossovers, but humans think it's a running joke or a ridiculously long setup since they got used to a variety of space-themed Toons.

It doesn't help that Daffy Duck still has his Duck Dodgers costume, and the theme song plays whenever he comes across a Cybertronian.

Actually, retract it all. It's definitely G1 because the Autobots love basketball, and everyone knows Space Jam, so it really doesn't help with the Cybertronians' "we are from a completely different planet" stance.

Oh no, the 'bots will be hounded by scouts, both human and Toon, for the yearly games. Nothing gets Americans more riled up than their sport teams.

The 'cons join because they refuse to be left out.

Michael Jordan gets literally roped into another golf hole to be their basketball coach. Again.

Do you see the look on his face? That is the definition of looking dejected. Everyone goes their separate ways, and what happens to Rodimus? He's left there, alone, without his ship, without his family. Quest's over, the thing that made him feel alive after millions of years of war. How long did he sit there? Where did he go afterward? Did he even have anywhere to go afterward?

Like it literally gets worse later on in the chapter

I also loved how Optimus' voice became more and more sterotypically "Optimus" as he went through his journey, like he started off very goofy and silly, then after getting his cog from Alpha Trion we start to hear more of how we're used to hearing Optimus, then after he's brought back by the Primes it's pretty much a very strong younger version of Peter Cullen's Optimus

the VAs were actually really impressive for the most part. I thought Chris Hemsworth did a fantastic job as Optimus, putting in just enough of a similar inflection as Peter Cullen's voice that it still felt like Optimus, just younger

Brian Tyree Henry DESTROYED me as Megatron, his vocal change through the movie???? emotionally devestating

Keegan Michael Key is one of my favorite Bumblebee voices tbh <3 especially considering we've only gotten a few iterations where Bee actually talks, so it worked for him since he could make it his own

Spoilers for the TMNT 40th Anniversary Comics Celebration, TMNT 2012’s “Kraang Among Us” by Ciro Nieli

So can we say this confirms (maybe) that in TMNT 2012, 1 season = 1 year??

So that whole Mikey saying he’s still 15 in S3 is absolute bs

My best guess is that this story takes place after Seasons 4. I’ve always saw the arcs in S5 as epilogues (minus mutant apocalypse) so S5 might be a long shot, but could also make sense.

This transformation was beautiful illustrated and the whole sequence was absolutely terrifying. I remember a couple years ago Ciro Nieli was interviewed in an article and he stated that if he ever had a chance to make a sequel for the 2012 series, he would have it take place during the turtles young adulthood where the Kraang would return and the store would be something similar to the horror movie Invasion of the Body Snatchers.

Over all, I would LOVE a follow up to this! If Ciro could make it possible to have the 2012 series continue as a comic and continue on with this story along with returning all the other 2012 characters like April, Casey, Karai, Mutanimals, Mona Lisa, Renet etc. I’d be very happy!

For those of you who are new here, this will be VERY long. I like to chatter a LOT. And for those that have seen any of my other rec lists... you know what's up.

The STATUS of each fic is labelled as such: Finished, Ongoing/Unfinished, Discontinued or Indefinite Hiatus. Oneshots are also marked accordingly.

Fics with Explicit content and/or Dark themes have also been labelled to the best of my memory. (I don’t mark fics with suggestive themes/moments and no explicit smut, since I cant guarantee I’ll catch all of them. Similarly, unless there is consistent graphic death, gore, or other upsetting topics are central to the plot, I [probably] won’t mark it as "dark".)

I've also done my best to label each of these with which continuity they (broadly) exist in, if it's relevant. If it's not labelled it's likely because it's because I couldn't decide on a tag and/or it's set in an AU divorced enough from any specific continuity that I figured that a tag would just be a disservice to any sort of filtering. One of the first few TF fics I read!! I'm a big fan of first contact AUs and linguistics so I fell in love with this fic immediately. I also fell in love with Swerve immediately. He's SO freakin cute in this. I read it before finishing IDW and so when I eventually got to Swerve in the comics I was like "OHHH!!! That's Swerve!? My beloved shooting star..."

The author's other work in the series (same premise, different character), Fox in Shining Armor is also HELLA cute.

One of my favourite authors!!! I was so heckin excited when I realised they were posting Transformers fic LMAO.

And rightfully so! The fic is fantastic so far- Optimus becomes a sort of ghost story, a stranger who helps people along the highways. He's confusing and comforting and he's seemingly taken it upon himself to protect you.

Social Media Etiquette - [ TFA ] - Prowl/Reader - Ongoing/Unfinished

The start of this is a really funny concept (buncha coworkers discussing which Autobot they'd bang) and then it just continues on being super super adorable and sweet. I love TFA!Prowl and I love the way he's written in this!!!

Swaps seamlessly between cute romantic trysts and the absolute chaos of other people watching these two wander into love.

winter of our youth - [ TFP ] - Ultra Magnus/Reader - Ongoing/Unfinished

Ultra Magnus accidentally ends up with a human companion who mostly wants to get back to their own life, only for both to become steadily more entangled. I absolutely adore the vibes in this fic- it feels slow, soft, and bright like a world muffled by snow.

west texas wind - [ G1 ] - Protectobots/Reader - Ongoing/Unfinished

By the same author as above! Protectobots my BELOVED. It's so soft and sweet and auuauauhghhh I need more. It updated while I was in the middle of writing this list and just ahh! I LOVE IT. So cute. So sweet. I love seeing the different characters reactions to each other and their actions- it's so fun.

You should also go check out their other fics, because the way they write character dynamics is sooo lovely, and their fics have been Nourishing me because I'm in love with a lot of characters that rarely get reader inserts :'> !!!

TFP setting with a dash of IDW lore <3 I love the way the relationships develop in this fic- Shcokwaves emotions (or lack of) is always fun to explore, especially in the context of love and having Romantic Feelings. It gets even more complicated when the thing preventing him from feeling things begins to malfunction...

Small Hands - [ TFP ] - Optimus/Reader, Ratchet/Reader - Ongoing/Unfinished

Soulmate AU!! Oohoho I love soulmate AUs... having THIS one be handprints is an especially fun, considering the size difference !!! Also, I love the way Cybertronian soulmates work :0

I'm fascinated and delighted by the eventual work around for the language barrier as well, because it's nit perfect but it works and it's so cool to see both Sideswipe and Sunstreaker finding their own ways to communicate and connect with the reader in this.

You get lost in the snowy wilderness, but luckily you are found by some sort of angel... I looooove this so much. I love the delayed reaction the reader has because of the cold... and Skyfire is so gentle, it makes my heart skip a beat every time I read this.

More first contact stuff!!! Ratchet stumbles across an injured human after crash landing on Earth. He tries to help, with mixed results. Again, I'm a big fan of language barriers, and I enjoyed Ratchet figuring out how to help the human to the best of his ability without being abke to properly communicate at the beginning. I love Transformers. I love Stardew Valley. This fic mashes them both together in a really fun way!! Very very sweet!! The reader is a Terran who is selectively mute, and they have a run in with Megatron, who turns out to be much less scary than you imagined.

I've included this here because the fic contents isn't Specifically Romantic, and also from what I understand of ES, the Terrans are usually portrayed to have a familial relationship to the Cybertronians, but please correct me if I'm wrong!!

I want to get into transformers. where do I start?

that's a loaded question but I'll do my best (because I haven't watched everything or read every comic myself. I'm still on it boss)

Transformers One (Movie) is a great piece of media to start with. It's a really good movie and I love their take on the Optimus Prime/Megatron friendship + rivalry. Good jokes, some of the most beloved characters of the franchise are in it and you get a basic understanding of the stakes.

Transformers 2023 Skybound (Comic) is a currently running TF comics that I think has amazing art and a story that really shows how much of a dad Optimus Prime is (literally). And Starscream gets to squish some humans which I find hilarious (you can easily find and read it online)

Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye and the follow-up series Lost Light / IDW Publishing (Comic) is my personal favorite on this list. These comics aren't focused on Optimus Prime and his main gang, but instead of a whole other cast of other Autobots, some of them well known, some not. I absolutely adore the great dialogues and the art and oh man, the found family theme is so deliciously heavy in this one. (also available to read online) 1000/10 my favorite!!!

Transformers G1 (Series) is the good old stuff. That's when TF started. It's from 1984, the animation looks wonky, the voice acting is over the top and it's really fun to watch! Some episodes are extremely silly, it's straight up just having a good time fr

Transformers Prime (Series) has the most drag show vibes of this list, I can't really explain why but it's awesome and has insanely funny moments (as well as Mr. Flamboyant himself, Knock Out, which is a huge W)

"Soundwave is the funniest fucking character in transformers because he's literally the straight man in every situation he's in with the decepticons, because all of them are absolutely incompetent at their job due to them being too focused on infighting. When Megatron died in FOC Soundwave was the one who literally put him back together and by extension, fucked everything over for everyone else because in this specific continuity Megatron just happened to be addicted to space meth.

However it can be so easy to see Soundwave as emotionless because of his straight-man role and his monotone speaking patterns, but Soundwave has plenty of emotions that he displays throughout the years, most notably being when he's dealing with the cassettes (aka his children), and can range from being soft-spoken with them, to full-out enabling their violent tendencies and letting them go ham at beating the shit out of teammates (shout out to that one g1 clip where Soundwave tries to hold back his kids for like a single second before saying "fuck it" and letting them go for the eyes).

Even outside of the cassettes though, he's very expressive in his own way. In fact, he's the KING of pettiness and sass when he wants to be. He literally plays his own supervillain music when walking the halls, he's not above insulting the other deceptions when their arguments are bullshit to him, even when faced with the destruction of the world he was like "nah" until he saw his boyfriend getting injured and went "REAL SHIT" (there's literally memes about this it's so funny). Speaking of friends, he actually has a lot of interesting dynamics with the people around him, especially when it comes to the decepticon high command. He's described as Megatron's most trusted advisor, he's somewhat amicable with Starscream (who's his own brand of frustration), and he and Shockwave even seem to get along pretty well (to the point they have a biologically fucked up tube son together?? It's been years since I've watched Siege but I swear that was what lead to Soundblaster), and did I mention he's gay? I'm pretty sure he and Cosmos are in a relationship together in the IDW comics or at least have a mutual attraction, it's cute.

Also speaking of IDW Soundwave: he likes elephants. They're his favourite animal and he loves them to the point where after he died in the comics, his kids specifically started targeting elephant poachers because they knew Soundwave would want that.

Have I mentioned he has a cat dad in the IDW comics. Like his dad is a literal robot cat that found him when he was having a sensory overload in the middle of the streets. Have these panels from when his dad died and he wasn't even there to see it! He just knew 💖

And have I mentioned he's met Fluttershy? Because he canonically met Fluttershy and let his cassettes play with her (while DELAYING HIS MISSION. THAT'S HUGE IN SOUNDWAVE LANGUAGE.)

There's also him being the reigning champion of best robot husband, but that's a whole other situation which is also really funny."

The Transformers: One Movie

I've been somewhat out of the loop due to limited energy levels for anything remotely social, but last Friday my brother Kevin had me take a closer look at the trailer for the new animated Transformers: One movie. On Twitter all I had seen of it was an animated .GIF of its title sequence which I shrugged off thinking that it was yet another Bay-like live action film (the only Transformers live action film that has earned my love is Bumblebee.)

This was my initial hyperactive fangirly reaction to the longer version of the trailer shared on Transformers 2005 which I wrote in reply to my brother Kevin, which is basically comprised of me squealing excitedly in capslock:

I am over the moon that this movie is all about Cybertron, and that just like in Earthspark we're going to see a kinder take on Megatron! (And yay Optimus as Orion Pax and the eternal badassery that is Elita-1.)

As usual, I'm bored to tears of seeing Bumblebee as a protagonist at this point and was disgruntled that he was acting like our beloved Rodimus, but my brother's spot on in what he replied, that unfortunately Bumblebee's just a fixture at this point. (He also admitted to Bumblebee fatigue.)

I'm not into certain aspects of the movie's design but I wasn't into Transformers: Prime initially either and now I'm utterly addicted to Transformers and write long winded fanfictions about it thanks to TFP having been my gateway drug. I'm extremely excited to see this film, and as for my disappointment over not seeing Starscream in the initial cut of the trailer that I watched, well, today I ran across this version!

And not only do we get a very droolworthy shot of our beloved screechy flyboy wearing his crown in this trailer, there's also this very brief shot of Skywarp being awesome!

I still have no idea who this green dude is (I might be derping from lack of sleep since I spent most of last night writing the climax and part of the denoumont of my fic Rise Up,) but maybe he's just a rando? Anyway, I'm super stoked, and I can't wait to watch this movie in theatres and support Transformers animation!

(The best way to tell the uncaring rich that we want more interesting Transformers movies like this one which don't follow the same rote script of Cybertronians arriving on Earth is by watching the films legally to support their creators!)

Looking over the trailer again, I have to say I actually like the faces now! And the style! I'm absolutely thriled to see Cybertron finally portrayed as a vibrant, beautiful world, complete with mechanimals!

let’s be real, 9-1-1 is not a fandom abundant with unusual aus, so this is a treasure. i was fed, hydrated, given a good night’s sleep and a firm beautiful hug, thank you.

the characterization, the buddie relationship- all of it is chef’s kiss. i also really liked the way emotional states were portrayed and narrated here, literal fucking gold. there are a lot of very intense extreme emotions in there and the fact that they stayed so consistent and true to the characterizations and fit into a logical progressive arc makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. also, autistic eddie diaz, my beloved. but ALSO, demisexual eddie diaz, even more beloved and very well-explored at that.

i also LOVED shannon in this one and their relationship with eddie. and also, just in general, i loved the way all the little details tied together in one deep and full picture in this fic - christopher meeting buck before eddie did, buck researching other people’s coma experiences. i just love how many thought was put in the creation of this fic and it really paid off.

and the anticipation built before the real-life buddie meeting had me squirming and flailing my hands, i was so SO happy with how it had me on the edge of my seat. and the meeting itself - fucking beautiful. all of the work is, really.

but, above all, the premise and the way it was brought to life in this work had me absolutely hooked. i wish all the fic writers a very having mad interesting dreams that inspire you to write mad interesting stories.

also, eddie smelling like pomegranates was an absolute delight and one of my favorite details in this fic, i did not blink on this reference.

I love what the Energon universe is doing with the transformers.

The Witwicky have more depth in them and Carly has more to do in the storyline.

Starscream being so evil and happily embracing it that I can’t wait for him to get what’s coming for him and Optimus… he’s everything. The way he’s written really does the original and beloved G1 Optimus justice. He’s a true hero and really embodies “strong enough to be gentle”.

The humans are so well-written and I am in love for how much we're seeing the humans and bots connect to each other. This kind of thing is exactly what I want to see and it's wonderful to see that more and more often in Transformers media. Really washes the taste of IDW Spike out of the mouth. ;) Carly from the beginning has always been so caring and bold and I am glad that the spirit of her is being embraced.

It's all so tragic. Slow and impending starvation drove such a deep wedge into their society that war broke out. (My current guess is that Cliffjumper's clan was "culled", Starscream seeing them as a "waste of resources".)

TFEU Starscream is G1 Starscream outside of a PG rating. If he could have, he would have.

Optimus Prime is absolutely perfect here. He's so kind, even though he's carrying so much pain. He's trying *so hard*, so hard! To have hope, even as the chance of a happy ending slips further and further away. He sees himself, his race, in the hearts of these little beings.

When I Wake From This Dream With Chains All Around Me (Hollow Knight) where my HK writing got kicked off. Longfic.

It’s Burned In My Mind and all of its associated works (Hollow Knight) absolute fever dream, wrote in a splurge of dissociation, wild time and probably my favorite fic I’ve written. Multichap.

The If We Could Just Be What We Wanted verse (Transformers Prime with a dose of a bunch of other continuities) particularly the first one (which needs edits but in terms of tone and characters and me managing plots genuinely holds up really well to the last few years), Damned If I Do (oneshot), and poor Chaotic Unity (longfic), who I had so many seeds of foreshadowing put into the first fic for and then it got read by like five percent of the original’s readers XD

control’s graveyard (Monsterverse Godzilla. Yep.) entirely self indulgent fun times, power dynamics central, character studies on everyone, I poured into worldbuilding and backstories and I think I managed to do show don’t tell with them better here than I manage elsewhere. Someone said that I managed to keep the main character “alien and genuinely despicable” while somehow keeping them sympathetic, and that praise is put on my mental fridge forever. I reread this fic more than I do any of my other ones. Genuinely my favoritism for it is showing hard. Multichap.

Immolation (MTMTE/Lost Light) Haven’t read this one in a year so grammar wise I’m sure it’s a wreck, but my 3am brain went off on this one and its stream of consciousness style. Oneshot.

Wyrm Off A String (Hollow Knight) based on crack and others’ art, ridiculous premise, somehow the best worldbuilding and foreshadowing of a twist ending I’ve done. Oneshot.

In this situation, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to assume that the primary reason as to why the clones showing up would not be good is because no one wants to watch Bulk, Bee and Optimus die.

12:42 - Why is Megatron so casual about Bumblebee now? Like he looks Bee in the eyes when Bee says something.

17:54 - I paused the show and it honestly looks like Megatron’s going in for a fist-bump.

Honestly I enjoy that episode a lot! And watching it right after predatory makes the episode even better!

The episode fleshes/metals (I’m so funny) out a lot of the characters and the impact Optimus has on their lives and how far some may go, especially Bumblebee. I also think that the episode does some justice for Megatron, showing that he's not pure evil and will listen to reasoning, and there’s a progress between him and Bee where he gradually shows Bee more respect, although the dynamic was short lived, it was still very refreshing.

The episode also sets up that Bee is really good with communication (despite the barrier) and persuasion, using what he knew about Megatron to get the cure.

Genuinely a great episode 10/10.
