I'M NOT A WIZARD! and other hilarious lies you can tell yourself.
read it on AO3 at https://ift.tt/zKayTxA by Quinn_and_Co Despite the excited chatter around him, Dean couldn’t help but feel sick to his stomach at his current predicament. He looked up at the ridiculously tall ceilings and crumbling walls of the hallway they had gathered all the eleven-year olds in and couldn’t help thinking again, probably for the 100th time that day, that this was never supposed to happen. He was never supposed to be in this stupid old castle. He was never supposed to have gotten on that annoyingly hard to find train. He was never supposed to have gotten that horrible letter. He was never supposed to have to leave his dad and Sammy! OR When Dean is Eleven years old, a few weeks after the Striga incident a letter is sent in the mail telling his family that he's a wizard?! And that he has to attend some school in some other country for some suspicious reason they won't share? Yeah, Dean's ticked. But apparently not as ticked as his dad who then throws him out of the family and wants nothing to do with him. Separated from his dad and brother for the first time in his life, Dean's fate is left up to Wizard foster care(?!) and this weird hog-something school. And surprisingly it will prove not that bad. not that he's ever going to admit that. for me it was november 19th 2020, but I cannot overstate the actual real effect this had on me. At that time, I was struggling to keep of the facade of wanting and enjoying a career in farming while shoving the clear signs of a chronic illness under the rug. It’s been two years and while I still don’t know what’s wrong with me and I’m still getting worse (but making some slight progress towards a diagnoses, probably either chronic lyme, Ehlers-Danlos or POTS), the events of those days pushed me, hard, onto a path of accepting and pushing the boundaries of my childhood love of history and mythology. I am now having some of my work read aloud on a small podcast, know bits of dead languages, ancient scripts and enough new myths to fill a library, and am aiming for a career in archeoanthropology if and when my health stabilizes. ik these were hard days for a lot of people but they helped me remember what i’m truly passionate about (weird myths) and remind me that my interests (writing about weird myths) could have a positive impact someday.
can't believe it's almost been two years since my brain chemistry was completely altered. not for good, not for worse, but a mysterious third option

I've been thinking about the lgbt rep through Castlevania and how it is in the shows vs the games pisses me off severely.
The games have a lot going for years at this point. Reoccurring Carmila who in her source material is a lesbian and her gf appears with her quite often. There's a canon trans woman witch enemey who is also Reoccurring through the games. Alucard is described as an androgynous beauty and breaks many masculine standards even for the time periods he appeares in. Shanoa gets flirted by many women through her story, even though she isn't aware of this even happening. Love interests aren't even that common through the games so it can be throughly assumed that many characters are some form of queer because of this. Obligatory maxiam and juste being assumed lovers because no one gets the true ending on first play through.
While the show only has three confirmed characters. I say three because based on dialogue the show's version of Carmilla would only be with a woman if no other man lived on earth, even at that its on the same plain as zoophilia??????
Plus morgana and striga barely get....well anything! They barely got much screentime or character shown. Hell even their relationship isn't well defined nor showcased, its basic things you see in a relationship and we don't really know how they even met. And Alucard was confirmed to be bi....by watching him being r/ped on screen that's heavily festshised on screen.

Always
Fandom: Castlevania (Netflix)
Shipping: Striga/Morana
Genre: Angst, Fluff, Smut
Length: 1597 words
Morana stirred in the bed. She could not sleep. She did not actually need to sleep, but staying awake made everything worse. When she stayed awake for too long, her thoughts would circle and circle and circle around, would fester with hatred for someone she basically knew nothing about. She would think about whether or not they should've tried to retake Styria, would think about returning just a few hours earlier, when there might still have been time to save Carmilla and Lenore.
It was not only those thoughts that were robbing her of her sleep, though. It was the humans. The stupid, pathetic humans. While the sun rose and it was time for her, Striga and the soldiers to return to whatever holes they had found to protect themselves from the sunlight, the humans would rise. There would be rustling, talking, screaming, scratching, walking, stamping and whatever other noises those disgusting humans would make. She hated it. She hated to stay in a human settlement like this. She hated to have to actually work with those humans. Humans were food, nothing else. This was like living among pigs, among cows. Dirty. Disgusting. Her vampire hearing even allowed her to pick up on some conversations the stupid humans were having. Trivial. All of it. Because human life was trivial.
She groaned, turning to the other side, turning towards the somehow sleeping Striga. For everything unholy, how was this woman still able to sleep? Striga had better hearing than even most vampires. Yet, she was peacefully lying there. Vast asleep.
Morana envied her. She envied her and the eerie calm she could keep.
It was two weeks now. Two weeks since they left the borders of Styria behind. About 18 days since Carmilla had died.
The bed was not helping things either. It was just hay with some blankets put on top of it. It was not the kind of bed she had gotten used to over those last four centuries. She could feel the single straws sticking out of it. Could also feel the hard wooden structure beneath.
All of this was humiliating. All of it.
Tears of anger were burning in her eyes. Anger at the world. Anger at the humans. Anger at that other forgemaster who had killed their sister.
Maybe Striga could feel it in her sleep, as she started to stir. With a soft grunt, she rolled onto her side, squinting at Morana. “You can't sleep again?” she asked softly.
It did not even make sense why she was whispering. The last little bit of “indulgence” they could allow for, was having their own “house”. Though house was saying too much. It was a hut with exactlyoneroom. A hut, that did not have a bath of any sort. But at least they did not share one big sleeping hall with other soldiers.
“No,” Morana replied, her voice bitter.
“Oh, my love,” Striga whispered, pulling her close and putting one arm around her. “You cannot allow those thoughts to consume you.” Her strong fingers weaved into Morana's open hair, as she gently pushed Morana's head against her own chest.
Morana understood the gesture, of course. She tried to do what Striga was so silently begging her for. She tried to relax, pulling in the familiar smell of her wife. Earthy. Grounded. Even after all of this somehow clean.
Striga's chest was gently moving as she spoke: “It is going to be alright.” That was, what she had repeated over those last few days.
“How?” Morana asked.
“We are still together, no?” Striga let her fingers run through Morana's hair. “We are still safe.”
“I don't think any of this is safe!” A single stupid human opening that fucking door would be enough to kill them.
“It is, though,” Striga argued. “We are safe. We have shelter. We arealive.”
A weird sound escaped Morana. Somewhere between a grunt and a sob. Was she crying? “The question is for how long.”
She did not even know what she was actually wishing for. If she was wishing for anything but a chance to change the past. She missed Carmilla, Lenore and the bloody castle. She missed having security, knowing what the next night would bring. She missed…
It was not as if she regretted this decision. If they had returned to the castle, trying to retake it, Striga might well have died, leaving Morana only the choice to flee or to perish herself. Striga was an excellent fighter, a better fighter than Carmilla had been for sure. But they would have been outnumbered by so many night creatures. And even with everything Morana missed, it was not as bad as she knew it would be without Striga. Without the woman who had given her life so many things it had lacked before.
“Try to not overthink it,” Striga whispered. “We are here. We are alive. I have you. You have me. It is enough. For now.” The tiny bed barely allowed her to move further away, yet she managed enough that she could lean in for a kiss.
Her kisses were especially gentle these days, as if they were trying to convince Morana that everything was alright.
The fic wanders into R-rated territory, read the last bit on Ao3.

Worldbuilding: Take 2 - Alfea
Author’s Note: God help me. This thing took me in total like four hours, my back hurts and I drank two big cups of black tea. Anyway the outline of this thing isn’t mine, it’s based of this https://springhole.net/writing/magical-school-development-questions.htm .
So Alfea, the most prestigious educational institution, or as we simple mortals like to call it a school, for Fairies.
It’s students are, as I said before, Fairies (no Sprites here). They come from all over the Realms. The atendence begins around 17-18 years of age and ends when the Fairy achieves her Enchantix around her 20-21 years.
It’s students are mostly human but sometimes there is also someone from the native-native inhabitants of the planets. However thanks to the fact that sometimes some ‘aliens’ have advantages in some regards, some adjustments need to be made in order to achieve the correct results. For example, Dryads have easier time controling nature especially plants, therefore exams from Draíocht Nádúrtha (Nature Magic) need to be more difficult for Dryads.
Students are selected based on power. The school council is going to decide based on some small trials, if the participating Fairy is worthy to study in Alfea. They will accept the strongest 90. While doing that, they also decide who is going to be in WIngs together.
The school is capable of hosting up to a 270 students at a time.
Most students here continue their education that they started before on some other school, depending on where they’re from. After they reach their ‘final’ form, they can continue studying on their own with a menthor, try to get into another school or start working, or anything else that a student of Earth highschool would do after graduation.
The students live inside the school on the first floor. Rooms house one to two students each. The Wings live in the same dormitories. Bathrooms are included and anything else they for day to day life (such as a small kitchen, that is suplied by the school). The school library is also present near the rooms, next to the staircase leading onto the ground floor. It has its own research system, though not that many students dare to use it, because it is known to get rather volatile when asked about certain topics, reacting with hurling books towards whoever the unfortunate student or staff member is.
The schools crest is a geometric golden camomile on golden field, surrounded by a golden circle. The reasoning behind this is that it grows all around Alfea and it is used in many potions, especially in healing potions.
The school has no mascot.
The students get up when the sun comes out (7:00) and go to classes hour later. There is a pause at 10:00, when the students and staff have breakfast and than continue with classes. There is a five minute pause between each. They end when the sun is highest at the sky (13:00) and the students go for lunch. After hour of doing what ever, there are seminaries, that last anywhere from hour to two hours.
The school is a castle built in a style that resembles a modern renaissance style. Its walls are in a pale shade of pink and its roofs are cobalt. It’s built around the courtyard.
The school lies on the south shore of Lake Roccaluce, surrounded by the Gloomy Wood Forest, which is in this part made mostly of pines and some oaks. The ground is filled with grass, shamrock and camomile. Quite a lot of animals enjoy company of Fairies, namely red deer, hares, hedgehogs and loads of different birds, that are native to Ireland here on Earth with the occasional badger or fox. For the ‘mythical’ creatures there can be found unicorns or, the less welcomed, kelpie, that normally live in the north deeper part of the lake.
The closest city to Alfea is Magix, the capital of the same-named Magix. It was built 50 years ago, before Bloom comes into play. It is neutral ground and it’s used for solwing conflicts between the Realms. Even though most of its people didn’t live here for long, they are quite friendly.
The school has a fairly (pun intended) good reputation, known for its students who achieved great deeds through their life.
A lot of people in Realms are born magicless, but they think of Alfea just as highly as those who are born with magic.
Alfea has a lot of rival Fairy schools all around the Realms. The most well known is Solarian Fairy academy Beta, that has been competing with Alfea ever since its establishment 500 years ago. They are ran in similiar fashion, however Beta begins accepting their students a year earlier. However exculding schools for Fairies, the most well known rivalry is with the Cloud Tower - school for Witches and Warlocks.
The subjects in Alfea can be put in two groups - magical and nonmagical. For subjects where magic is applied we have: potionology (potion making / partially chemistry), metamorphosis (low ranking shapeshifting of other subjects), flying lessons (teaching students how to fly), magic defense (teaching students how to use magic shields), magical offense (how to use magic to deal damage) and applied convergence (teaching students how to combine their magic with other members of their Wing). For subjects that don’t use magic we have: magiphilosophy (morality of magic, etc.), history of magic (that), magic in nature (how does magic effect ‘natural’ world) and good manners. Than there are the seminaries, but they depend on the teachers.
The type of magic that taught at Alfea, and Fairy schools in general, is ‘light’ magic, that feeds of positive energy. It’s variations depend on the Fairy who wields it. Teachers need to readjust their teaching, when it comes to such students.
Surprisingly enough, most accidents happen during flight classes when students run out of time during their transformations and fall down. This has been prevented many times thanks to parachutes that students are required to put on before their transformation.
Studies on this school are determined by Trans Realmal Department of Magical Education (TRDME). Small things can be changed by the Headmistress.
Anyone qualified for the job of teacher of magic, can try to apply for job at Alfea. The teachers are chosen by the school council, just like the students. Unlike the students however, teacher can be either male or female.
Just like the students, teachers can be from any Realm and unlike the students, magic is not required. It’s a plus, but it is not required.
Political view differes from teacher to teacher. Especially if they’re from different planets. And students too. Most of the time it’s: respect the law and don’t get anywhere near Strigas (Witches and Warlocks)
There are holidays very similiar to Wheel of the Year. There is Autumn Equinox (21. 9. - 24. 9.), Day of the Rose (9. 10.), Day of Those who Left (2. 11.), Yule (21. 12. - 1. 1.), Spring Equinox (19. 3. - 22. 3.) and Day of the Oak (20. 6.). And the Big Break of course (1. 7. - 31. 8.). On Equinoxes, Yule and Big Break students get to go home and on the Days classes are cancelled, so the students can either go home or stay at their dorms.
The school is protected by many magics, notably its protective shield (radius 500 metres) won’t let any nonmagical creature in, unless the Headmisterss allowed it. This does not affect animals, who come in and leave as they please. Headmistress can enforce any other protective magics if she desires.
School provides all the supplies its students will need, including any books, potion materials or anything else.
Any magic without teacher insight is prohibited. Even if the risk of harm is not grand everytime, the rule still applies.
Alfea used to have dresscode in the old days, however the latest Headmistress, miss Isabella Faragonda, because she consider it ‘old’ and that the students ‘should have as much freedom in their clothes as in their magic, as long as the Head of Discipline says it is alright’. Needed to say some students believe she should’ve kept the dresscode, just for that reason alone.
Students can assemble in any free time of day and do whatever they want unless it violates code of school. Which also means they can go to Magix, to the Gloomy Wood Forest or to the Lake. Or anywhere else for that matter, just make sure to get back before sunset. Sport activities are allowed as well on the field behind the school, courtyard or small beach next to the Lake.
Students are given breakfast, lunch and dinner by the school in the school canteen. If they want to eat anything between the breaks they can, however it is food that they made in their small dorm kitchens. The food from the canteen is made in school kitchens by professional magic chef Sfoglia. From what students and staff say the food is apparently delicious.
Students can create clubs. As said before when students are chosed by the school council, they also put them into Wings - teams of Fairies, that help one another during battles. They can make drama clubs or history clubs or tutoring clubs or whatever clubs.
Injuries are handled with extreme care in school infirmary led by nurse Ofelia. However if something worse happens there is always the Hospital of Magix.
If student breaks the code of the school (the law in Magix), they can be expelled. A student can appeal and go to the Court of Magix, and try to get their scolarship.
The school was founded almost 750 years before Bloom comes to the picture. It was founded by well respected Guardian Fairy of Solaria, Dianthe Messia Apelles. It was founded for the need to properly train young Fairies in order to protect their Realms from threats. And also because there is School for Strigas right across the Lake.
Miss Faragonda has been part of Company of Light, group of great warriors and Fae (and one Witch), who fought in the War for the Flame. She has managed to defeat large portion of the cavalry of Voluky, large insect like creatures, created by fairy Mandragora, on her own
Many of Guardian Fairies have studied on this school. Not only them but also Magical Healers, Researchers or Fighters. All of them are considered pride of the school and an idle for every Fairy who goes through Alfeas gate.
There are secret tunnels bellow the school, that begin with hole in the wall of a well in Alfeas courtyard, which go under the Lake and connect to cave near the Cloud Tower and go directly to Red Fountain, army school with numerous specialization for the students to choose. They were built during the War in order to make sure that the students and staff can quickly move to safety, if they were attacked.
The school building has been damaged during the first wave of attack during the battle for Alfea and comple of times after that, but it was nothing too big. Overall the school looks quite the same, just like when it was constructed. The entire castle has been built at once. Some changes were made to the interior of classes and canteen and dorms and rooms are changed almost everytime a new student moves in. Curently there are plans to expand the greenhouse and basement parts of the school. And there has been added a bus stop, with a bus that leaves to Magix every single hour, from 9: 00 to 16: 00.
There aren’t many legends connected to the school. However there were few legends about ghosts and monsters in the night roaming the halls. That thing is partially truth, because during the War extremly agressive minotaur were send to guard the halls while the students slept. They were prohibited from leaving their rooms because there was a high risk of the creatures attacking them. However they had since been removed, though the rumors are still around.
There are no unsolved mysteries present in Alfea.
As said before the dresscode was changed only recently, but other changed rules include: keeping pets (as long as it isn’t dangerous to people around it), ability to go to Magix and bunch of other minor things that aren’t really important.

Theory About Witcher Schools
Here’s a theory about Witchers for a change! As I’ve been writing my Witcher/Marvel crossover, which is also my first long Witcher fic, I’ve been thinking a lot about Witchers, reading the wiki a lot, and applying my logical brain to the fandom. Because of that, I have a theory for you!
Only men become Witchers. Everyone knows this. The thing is, everyone also knows that Witchers take children of surprise to turn them into Witchers, and a decent portion of those children are girls. (Two of the known child surprises given to a Witcher in canon are girls!)
My theory is that yes, only men become Witchers, but not all Witchers start out as boys. Like how Strigas are always female (as far as we know) the magic that drives the Witcher transformation will only work on boys, no matter what kind of bodies they have. Any children of surprise that Witchers acquire always end up as boys, or are boys at least part of the time, so they can become Witchers. (Sometimes that means the trials are put off for a day or two while they wait for someone to be a boy before they start, but the mortality rate for girls or anything else is 100%, so it’s best not to have any more deaths than they have to)
Of course, some Witchers come from abandoned children that they rescue (like Geralt) and a lot of those would be girls (probably quite a few, because between a boy and a girl, a lot of families in that day and age would probably rather have a boy). If the trials have a 100% mortality rate for anyone not a boy, then where do the girls and more non-binary children go? Of course, they would all get trained the same before the trials, because they don’t know which of them will be boys by the trials, but after the trials, my theory is that all the children that haven’t had the mutagens would help out around the fortress. Things like taking care of the children, teaching classes, training horses, repairing things, farming. Of course, they would all also be very good at fighting, being trained by Witchers, if not Witchers themselves, so they would probably also keep the area around Kaer Morhen clear of minor monsters, hunt for food, maybe go out into the world as mercenaries. (In the games they actually trained someone as a Witcher after all the mutagens were gone, so it isn’t completely out there to have individuals trained by Witchers that don’t have the mutagens)
If that is the case, then the trials would be almost like a combination of a puberty blocker and hormone treatment (especially if the trials happen around the ages of eleven to thirteen), but probably also make it so they could actually produce the amount of testosterone that is ordinary to cis men. The trials do change their bodies so dramatically that it makes a lot of sense. It would be great for the trans boys, but not quite as good for the more gender-fluid children.
That would mean that Diedre, Eskels child surprise in the games, was likely trans, and that could explain why, when Eskel avoided the place he lived in just to avoid destiny, (and maybe also because they didn’t have the mutagens anymore, to give him what transition was possible) then decided not to give him asylum in Kaer Morhen, he flew into a murderous rage. He could have had the very peak of acceptance in that time period, yet he didn’t get the chance to, because Eskel avoided him.
That would also make Ciri likely trans, and I can’t help but imagine her coming out to the Witchers, Yennefer, and Jaskier. She says that she’s actually a guy, nervous that they won’t take it well, then Geralt says, “I should have expected that from a Witcher’s child of surprise. Do you want us to use a different name?” Then goes back to reading. All of the Witchers would be incredibly casual about it. Jaskier would be a lot more confused, might think that it’s to hide her from Nilfgaard (because he knows some women bards that dressed as men to keep themselves safe) but would come to understand eventually.
Of course, there are two canon women Witchers, but it is entirely possible that their gender just changed after the trials, or maybe they’re gender-fluid. Anything’s possible really.
If gender is known and understood to be fluid by Witchers, then young Witchers would be so much more likely to be able to properly explore their gender identity. With so many good examples, and with the kind of acceptance that the fortresses would have, it would be a real haven for queer people. (And they likely wouldn’t care about sexuality either, due to their acceptance of genders changing)
But the thing is, if a lot of Witchers were trans or gender non-conforming, they would be an even bigger target for humans, who would take that as proof that Witchers are unnatural mutants. And the loss of the fortresses, and all the Witchers and trainees that died in the pogroms... it’s the loss of an entire community, almost like how the AIDs epidemic decimated populations of gay people. ...and now I’ve made myself sad. Whoops.
Please tell me if I got anything dramatically wrong! You can also find the theory on my AO3, just below!

The Witcher 3? (or any of those games tbh)
never played | want to play | terrible | boring | okay | good | great | a favorite
Okay, I have feelings about this. I really don’t like CDPR because I have trans* friends, and because the one gay character in Witcher 3... let’s not go there, frankly.
Now for me that’s a significant issue, which I can’t easily overlook. That said.
Witcher gameplay is some of the best around. I love having to do my research, prepare carefully, and as a result get to steamroll a powerful monster. There’s a striga in the Blood and Wine DLC (Read: Vampire) that is supposed to be a miniboss. Luckily, I had Black Blood (it took damage trying to feed on me) and Vampire Oil (Bonus damage out the wazzoo) and a suped-up Igni. It made for a great fight, if a short one.
Worldbuilding is a real strong point for the whole series, and whilst there’s a lot about the world I find a little too Dark and Edgy, I appreciate the way it’s all fleshed out. Literally, sometimes. And that plays into the questing, because oh my god that’s probably a post all of it’s own.
Overall? There’s a rash of problems with the Witcher series, but damned if I didn’t sink hundreds of hours into W3 alone. (Also I’m am 100% over Ciri, just let Geralt retire to Toussaint plz)

Spicy
I find the discourse around High Guardian Spice to be ridiculous. I mean, I'm not going to watch it because i don’t care for the production team but the fact this thing is getting review bombed is hilarious to me. There are a lot of reasons not to like this show, the least of which is it being super gay. I feel like the misandry or the mary sue-ness of certain characters is more of a transgression rather than showing a bunch of queer relationships on screen. Hell, the fact that this thing is airing on Crunchyroll, taking up space a new anime could have on the anime streaming service, is another issue that, i think, trumps all of the gay visibility. Representation is fine but it needs to be executed properly. It’s funny to me that HGS sh*ts the bed so hard with this considering, you know, anime.
Anime has been out in front of this gender representation sh*t for decades. Actual f*cking decades. Traps, female presenting males in Zoomer speak, are a thing so prolific in anime, it’s a trope. Some of the most popular characters in very successful franchises are Traps. Think Astolfo from the Fate franchise, Haku from Naruto, or Felix Argyle from Re:Zero. Taking it back to when i was a kid, Sailor Moon had gay, lesbian, and trans representation, unabashed, and principal to the plot. We all know about Uranus and Neptune being being lovers but cats skipped over the fact that all of Queen Beryl’s minions are guys. All of them. Zoisite and Malachite (Kunzite for those of you hailing from the Nihon) were super gay for each other. Malachite’s entire arc was to avenge the death of his lover, the uke (or bottom) in that very homosexual relationship. The Sailor Starlights were just straight up magical transgenders. These chicks used their Sailor powers to transform in to dudes when not in battle. Magical F to M trans space guardians, bud. Anime specific, in the manga they just cross dress, but still a thing, on TVs, back in Nineties. Tell me how, in this age of woke, PC, SJW, representation focused, social climate, these shows execute worse than some sh*t that aired in a decade where coming out as gay was a death sentence for your career? Ask Ellen about that one.
Now, I'm never gong to watch High Guardian Spice, very clear about why up top, so it’s forgivable if you write my opinion off as bullsh*t but the way they made this show was wrong. There are ways to deliver this exact content and not make it aggressively alienating to a wide audience. I don’t care for Steven Universe overall but i even i recognize the quality of that show and what it means for representation. Hell, Disney just canceled The Owl House for being too gay, even if they deny that, and i adore that show. It was incredibly well written, had a compelling cast of characters who were more than just their gender tropes, and executed their lesbian romance wonderfully. Fantastic show axed in it’s prime for stupid corporate reasons. Castlevania did their queer sh*t amazing, too, especially the relationship between Striga and Morana. That sh*t was wonderful. F*ck, dude, even the Voltron reboot executed this sh*t perfectly and they had a full on man-on-man romance, one that never defined the characters or derailed the narrative. Male homosexuality is exceedingly hard to sell when it’s not portrayed in an over-the-top way, but Voltron pulled that sh*t off by having solid writing and brilliant character development. It’s not hard to do this sh*t right. Make sure the agenda doesn’t define the character or plot, that’s it. So many of those productions fail because it’s about the agenda and not the narrative.
It’s so dumb that i have to sit here and explain how to execute something that an entirely different culture has been doing to a good amount of success, for decades. Sh*t, man, Little Witch Academia exists. That show does what High Guardian Spice is trying to do, much better and much prettier. Because anime! Like, nuShe-Ra is touted as highly for LBGTQ+ representation as Steven Universe, something i staunchly disagree with because the actual representation presented in that show, after you get over the gay, is f*cking awful. I wrote a whole thing about it before but the driving ‘ship in that show is violently problematic and everyone just ignores it because of the gay. Now, don’t misunderstand me; I love Catra. I think she’s the best thing about that show but her getting that happy ending is incredibly troublesome. Catra spent the entire show trying to murder Adora and her friends, actually physically assaulting The Princess of Power several times, onscreen, over the course of this glorified jealousy vendetta, only to get “redeemed” at the end of the show. Catra and Adora end up in a relationship together. The showrunner even dreamed up a magic fan fic kid named Finn to punctuate that saccharine sweet finale. Adora is Catra’s adopted sister. They grew up together. They share a “mother.” At the end of this show, they f*ck. Canonically. Becuase the showrunner said so. Sure, it’s not technically incestuous but if you have ever adopted a sibling, like, become so close to a friend that they might as well be family, this sh*t is skeezy as hell. No one talks about that. No one addresses the abuse. No one cares because the gay. nuShe-Ra gets a hard pass for all of the f*cked up relationship sh*t and poor plotting because the gay. That sh*t is a bad show because the agenda overtook the storytelling and HGS has done the same f*cking thing. People shouldn’t be mad that the show is gay, they should be mad that it’s gay got ahead of the narrative and the boorish way it’s agenda was executed.
I hate this sh*t so much because, when you call this nonsense out, people come after you like you’re a bigot. I am sure there are some in the seas of boos this thing has gotten, bad actors using the cover of legitimate criticism to hide their hate, but i guarantee there are more people upset your content sucks because you don’t know how to implement your politics with a deft touch. Why does everyone hate Rey Palpatine but love Ahsoka Tano? They’re both female characters, right? Execution. Why is everyone sh*tting on The Eternals and the Indiana Jones films based solely on leaks, not having actually seen the films yet? Execution. Technically, Kathleen Kennedy but she can’t execute so my point still stands. Why did everyone hate Masters of the Universe: Revelations but absolutely adore the CG reboot, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe? Execution. Why is Steven Universe so popular and High Guardian Spice so hated? Execution. You can definitely go woke and not go broke. There are plenty examples of that. Black Panther is a great one. Get Out is another. The “go broke” part comes when your execution is broken. We’re seeing that, right now, in real time, with Ghostbusters: Afterlife. Don’t put your agenda at the forefront of your narrative. Story always comes first and then you work your message into it. As long as the characters are developed and the driving conflict is compelling, you can make whoever the f*ck you want as gay as you want. People don’t want to be preached at, they want to be entertained. If you are a proper creative, you find a way to instill your message in a way that the audience accepts as engagement. You don’t just scream “Rawr Patriarchy” and then have a bunch of cutesy, pink haired, misandrist, murdering the time god or some sh*t. That’s bad writing. Sh*t like that shouldn't take up a spot on the release schedule, especially when that slot can be used to shove more big ass anime titties in my face.
