When I was 8 years old I saw The Phantom Menace in theaters and it was the first Star Wars movie I ever watched. And let me tell you, seeing Jake Lloyd play Anakin Skywalker changed my brain chemistry. I wanted to be him so bad!! 😭

actually always thinking of darth vader through a transgender lense bc i’m insane but also bc it is SO EASY to do a trans reading of his whole deal like to me, personally, in the star wars in my brain that is better than yours and doesn’t gaf about authorial intent, darth vader is in part a manifestation/personification of the horrifying feelings of loss of control that come with long-term repression/closeting or forced detransition. and this works on a purely superficial level because darth vader is hypermasculine in a way that starkly contrasts a lot of anakin’s softer/more androgynous traits but if we are to actually think beyond the superficial the themes of loss of autonomy and rejection of personal identity in favor of one given to you are veryyyy resonant from a trans perspective. constant insistent rejection of your true self. “that name no longer has any meaning to me.” even his voice is not his own. etc etc. vader is a reinvention of anakin but that reinvention is into an empty husk whose entire existence is to be another person’s pawn. vader is not so much a new identity as he is a lack of one. and i don’t want to dismiss that on a literal textual level disability is a part of the Body aspect but all this is far less about his injuries and part more about how they’re treated, specifically how his body is altered in ways that are entirely about creating a more imposing image and basically turning him into a weapon (there is no reason for him to be 6’7), and that again ties into the idea of Erosion Of Self. and i think these aspects come together in a way that is so easy to read as trans, or at least that resonates with me as a trans person, because so much of repressing as a trans person is inventing an empty version of yourself and accepting your physical state as something you are fundamentally not in control of and self-denial for others. and vader encompasses a lot of those feelings taken to body horror space opera extremes

Have a messy Rexwalker AU

Anidala were casual, there was flirting with Rex but it never went anywhere. Anakin doesn't get barbecued and ends up as Suitless Vader, so the Vader identity is more or less public.

Vader is Captured ™️ by a miscellaneous individual, and Sheevy Boy doesn't care enough to find him.

Instead, Rex stumbles across captured Vader, who is:

Waking up in the same bed almost makes him cry with emotion.

(The intended implication of Anakin not noticing anything is wrong wrt gender and the surgeries is that she was never cis in the first place and just. Didn't realize. Could be fully binary trans, could be gender indifferent. Won't know until the truth comes out that she wasn't Always Like This.)

I reblogged that joke post about how Anakin was vaders deadname, but like. I unironically think this was what Kylo's situation was, lol. You don't have to be trans to change your name or be uncomfortable with it. Kylo was always uncomfortable as Ben even before joining the darkside. He hated that he had the name of a man he never knew and had no attachment to. He hated that solo was a fake last name.

It was stated in the Rise of Kylo Ren comics that Kylo picked that name during childhood. Even if the Ren title was earned in a way he particularly never wanted, Kylo was always his chosen name.

Idk maybe I'm just projecting my transness onto him. But I always sorta get sad when redeemed Kylo Ren is reduced to "Ben". He can still be good with the name Kylo and without the discomfort that his birthname gave him throughout his whole life.

I am absolutely cheating with the number of sentences today, and I won't apologize for it. I wrote 2K+ words last night for seahorse dad henry (reminder that means pregnant trans henry)((I did this in addition to finishing a 17K+ fic)), so I wanted to share this whole snippet to celebrate.

eeeeee i always get so happy when me posting about my silly little baseless-headcanon-turned-kind-of-batshit-insane-queer-reading resonates!! it started as a fun idea i’d toss around with friends but the longer i sat with the more i was like “guys…does reading anakin as a trans woman Enhance The Themes?” and like…i guess it does! and she really is a tragic figure moreso than she is anything else people try to make her out to be (she’s one of the least politically-motivated characters in the prequels so i always find it funny when people try to attach coherent politics to her lol) and her whole deal really can just be summed up as cult vs cult tug of war and general Autonomy Struggle. and throwing transness into that soup of themes adds a lot if u ask me!
