Crown Princess Victoria's house on Värmdö is finished

Large windows facing the sea, a sunny dock and a heated pool in the garden. Villa Fågelbro is now ready for two future Swedish queens. The Crown Princess family has already spent a weekend in their private paradise on Värmdö.

The house is beautifully nestled in greenery on a small hill. Large oaks and birches form a natural privacy screen. The leaves rustle invitingly from the crowns, and the smell of forest and freshly cut lawn is lovely.

A stone's throw away is Fågelbro Golf & Country Club, but hardly any golfers on the course notice the 2.5-meter-high fence surrounding Victoria and Daniel's lot.

Here, it is intended that Crown Princess Victoria and her family will be able to be completely private and free from prying eyes. When they want to experience archipelago life, barefoot days, and a cup of morning coffee on the front porch, the house in Värmdö is their focal point.

The family has stayed overnight in the house

Victoria and Daniel bought the property in 2020 and own it together. They paid 18 million SEK and received a building permit and beach protection dispensation from Värmdö municipality in the spring of 2021. Nacka Värmdö Posten was the first to report.

There used to be an older house from the 1930s on the plot. It has been demolished, and in its place, a modern and airy home has been built with large windows facing the sea and four-meter-high ceilings.

The Margen Wigow architectural office designed the buildings, the same office that developed the Crown Princess couple's house, Villa Skönvik, on Solliden in 2013. The facade is painted with iron vitriol, which will turn grey over time. The new home has been named Villa Fågelbro.

In December 2023, the house was finally inspected, and the family got the OK to move in, but it is only now that they have tried to live there. The Crown Princess family spent a weekend in the house, according to information given to Aftonbladet. But it is something the Royal Court does not want to comment on.

- They live at Haga Palace and spend the summer in [Villa Skönvik on the grounds of Solliden Palace on] Öland. This is their private residence, which the Royal Court does not comment on. But the Crown Princess Couple looks forward to using the house during the year on holidays and weekends, says Margareta Thorgren.

Prince Daniel called and thanked

The interior is said to be Scandinavian and bright. Wilzén's carpentry in Tranås has delivered oak-wood kitchens, around 50 wardrobes, dressing rooms, and interior doors.

- Prince Daniel actually called last week and thanked us for our work. He is very committed, and all questions go through him, so the work goes a little slower than I am used to, said Christer Wilzén to Tranås Tidning two years ago.

He told the newspaper that security is high and that [the security police] is involved. Wilzén has been made to sign papers to keep specific information secret.

Special solutions on the property's land and water sides also ensure safety. At the gate, large signs from the Royal Courts and the County Administrative Board greet the curious. The property is a protected object that may neither be entered nor photographed.

There is room for both bodyguards and guests. At the gates stands a small house with large windows facing the gates that provide a good view of entry and exit. Two future queens should be able to feel completely safe here.

Royal friends as neighbours

The neighbours in the area also value security, and signs from large security companies are on every other gate. Behind one of the neighbours' fences runs a high-wire fence that "invisibly" deters people from trying to cross onto private land.

Business leaders, board professionals, billionaires, and royal friends live here. The HM family owns several properties a drive away on idyllic forest roads. Crown Princess Victoria is close friends with HM Board Chairman Karl-Johan Persson and his wife Leonie, who was in the same high school class as the Crown Princess. The Persson family has been involved in the Crown Princess and Prince Daniel's house building and helped the couple with applications and advice.

Financier and billionaire Robert Andreen, who founded Nordic Capital in the 1980s, also lives nearby. His daughter, the fashion profile Emilia de Poret, and sons Linus and Ludwig also have houses on the property. Linus Andreen is married to the Crown Princess's close friend Märta Schörling Andreen, the heiress of the financier Melker Schörling, who, until his death, was one of Sweden's wealthiest people and was close to the King and Queen.

HM heir Nils "Nisse" Tham and his wife Félice Jankell also have a summer house in the area. Nils Tham is one of Sweden's youngest billionaires and is the son of HM's primary owner, Lottie Tham. According to Expressen, the house was bought for 55 million SEK in 2016, and several millions have been spent on renovations and extensions.

Solar panels on the roof

Not all the groundwork is finished yet, and there is still some work to be done with the various houses on the plot, but most of it is finished. Crown Princess Victoria is very interested in environmental issues; of course, the house has solar panels on the roof. Saving energy and taking the climate crisis seriously permeate the entire Royal Family's attitude.

The Royal Court does not comment on this because it concerns the Crown Princess Couple's private residence. But regarding sustainability issues, we can say that these are constantly relevant for the Royal Family and also in the construction of this private residence, says Margareta Thorgren.

The King had solar panels installed at the Royal Palace as early as 2018, a larger solar cell facility he received as a gift from SFV when he turned 70. Plans are now being made for more solar cells on the Palace's roof.

According to information given to Aftonbladet, Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel will also landscape the garden to promote biodiversity and attract pollinators such as bees and other insects.

Crown Princess Victoria and her family are enjoying their summer vacation at Solliden. On Sunday, she turns 47 and celebrates per tradition with a procession through Borgholm and the Victoria concert in the evening. But when the summer ends, the house on Värmdö will become the family's "leisure oasis" on the weekends.

Some corrections:

Fort of the Geats; It's a stronghold against the Danes, not a palace

Marketplace by the never-ending [brook]. The jön in Jönköping doesn't refer to the marketplace, but to the brook that gave it its name. Junebäcken was not a seasonal brook, but a constant water source.

Log island is another technically correct but etymologically off one, stock does indeed mean log in Swedish but may not be the origin of the city name; in Old German stock means fortification and since Stockholm a) had a lot of German involvement in its founding and b) was built explicity as a fortification to prevent Baltic raiders from making it into Lake Mälaren, it sounds like a more plausible origin to me.

Considering how many marketplaces were included, I surprised Köping (market) and Söderköping (southern market) were not.

I år ger sig Anna-Lotta Larsson ut på sin 29:e julturné́. Hon besöker sex städer tillsammans med pianisten Fredrik Hermansson och lokala körer. Turnépremiär för ”Anna-Lottas Jul” blir fredagen den 8 december i Vännäs. Anna-Lotta Larsson är för många ett känt ansikte. Hon har dykt upp i många olika sammanhang i tv, på teaterscenen och otaliga skivinspelningar. Anna-Lottas samarbeten med lokala körer i juletid har för många blivit en tradition. I år är den eminente pianisten Fredrik Hermansson med på turnén.

”Det är en ynnest för mig att få göra dessa julkonserter tillsammans med alla härliga körledare, körsångare och att dessutom få möta en trogen publik. Det känns lyxigt och värdigt” säger Anna-Lotta Larsson.  Rollen som "Anna" i "Värmlänningarna” var hennes genombrott för den stora Tv-publiken 1980, även om hennes Tv-debut faktiskt inträffade redan 1973 då hon vid 19 års ålder framförde två sånger i Siewert Öholms program "Blå Vägen". Hon har fortsatt karriären med teater, film och i huvudsak musik som soloartist eller i samarbete med exempelvis Björn Skifs, Ronny Eriksson, Johan Stengård och Göran Fristorp. Anna-Lotta har sina rötter både i den värmländska och norrbottniska myllan. Hon har släppt 13 soloalbum sedan 1985. De fyra senaste på eget skivbolag.  Pianisten Fredrik Hermansson är en musikalisk mångsysslare som har rört sig inom en mängd olika genrer. Han har turnerat med bl.a. Zara Larsson, Rikard Wolf, Tomas Andersson Wij, Ane Brun, Henrik Dorsin, Sarah Riedel, Lustans Lakejer och många andra. Fredrik har även varit verksam som kapellmästare eller musiker på Stockholms Stadsteater, Dramaten och Scalateatern. Fredrik utgör även ena hälften av jazzduon Sollinger/Hermansson och är medlem i Klezmerorkestern Sternfall.  ”Jag spelade för första gången ihop med Anna-Lotta på Åland sommaren 2017 och sedan dess har det blivit en mängd konserter. Tillsammans har vi utvecklat ett unikt samspel och nu ser jag fram emot att få spela tidlösa, vackra julsånger ihop med henne. Och såklart att få möta och spela tillsammans med alla härliga körer.”, säger Fredrik Hermansson
