My parents have installed an 8kWh battery backup because frankly it sucks not to have power 4-8 hours a day. Pretty much everyone in South Africa who can afford one is installing one! But it's really stupendously expensive and it makes me think about how ridiculous the people suggesting that grid scale storage is viable are.
Look. I don't think we will never be able to do grid scale storage. There's lots of promising new battery and capacitor technologies. I give it decent odds that in the next century someone will develop a battery that rivals kerosene for cost per kWh of storage. But whenever we talk about tools for solving climate change I feel like a lot of people forget that it's a pretty imminent problem!
If I told you "hey, I know you're looking at that Toyota Corolla so you can drive to work. Well, I'm working on a flying car. It's going to be so much faster, and it'll cost the same amount as a Toyota Corolla, and I'll have it ready in a few months. Look, I've got this tiny scale model to show you that it's on the way, please give me the money you were going to spend on the Toyota Corolla and I'll give you a flying car when it's ready." you would laugh at me. Every single engineering project comes in over budget and over time, if it's finished at all. Scale models are nothing when you need to solve big problems. Everyone understands this with bridges, why do they not get it with gridscale storage.
Every day some guy says "hey look we built a sodium battery pack it took our lab six months to build 100kWh worth but we totally promise that we'll have mass production down by 2025 please don't think about whether you are designing a future grid heavily dependent on fossil fuel baseloads we'll have huge batteries by then look there's the one in Australia it stores literally seconds worth of grid capacity." and I feel like I'm going insane.
This is not a technology that is "ready to go" this is the shit we make fun of when a university PR department claims they've cured cancer (in mouse cells (in a culture ( with additional marker proteins (and killed the healthy cells too whoops))))
All the current climate change targets are aiming for things in 2050 and it feels like gridscale storage gets used as an easy excuse for politicians who don't want to explain why they're making a grid that happens to be completely reliant on fossil fuels. They just go "oh we're investing in renewable technologies ;)" while sheepishly standing in front of the gas pipelines.
They might not even be industry shills! Some of them are but I think some of them are genuinely taken in by the renewables grift. They see the endless fields of wind farms when they visit the German countryside or whatever and think wow :) renewables really work :) we're going to fix climate change :) and have never understood an eqCO2/kWh value in their life.
People reporting on SMR and renewables say things like "Nuclear is too expensive and impractical compared to wind and solar which is why we're not investing in it" but that's only true if you believe you can run a grid on wind and solar alone! Otherwise you have to say the quiet "and hundreds of gas turbines with fuel storage on standby" part out loud.

The Evolution of Automobiles: A Journey Through Time
Tumblr media
Introduction
The history of automobiles is a fascinating tale of innovation, determination, and human ingenuity. From the earliest steam-powered contraptions to the sleek electric vehicles of today, cars have shaped our lives, economies, and landscapes. Let’s embark on a journey through time to explore the milestones, inventors, and revolutions that define the world of automobiles.
1. The Pioneers
a. Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot and the Steam Carriage (1769)
In a small workshop in France, Nicolas-Joseph Cugnot built the first self-propelled vehicle. His steam-powered carriage, known as the “Fardier à vapeur,” could carry passengers and cargo. Although slow and cumbersome, it marked the birth of the automobile.
b. Karl Benz and the Benz Patent-Motorwagen (1886)
Fast-forward to the late 19th century. Karl Benz, a German engineer, unveiled the Benz Patent-Motorwagen. It was the first true automobile powered by an internal combustion engine running on gasoline. With three wheels, a single-cylinder engine, and a top speed of 16 km/h (10 mph), the Motorwagen revolutionized transportation.
2. The Model T Era
a. Henry Ford and the Model T (1908)
Henry Ford’s vision was to make cars accessible to everyone. In 1908, he introduced the Model T, an affordable, mass-produced vehicle. The assembly line revolutionized manufacturing, and soon, millions of Model Ts rolled off the production line. The car became a symbol of progress and freedom.
3. The Roaring Twenties and Streamlined Designs
a. Art Deco and Streamlining
The 1920s witnessed a shift in car design. Art Deco influences brought elegance and symmetry to automobile aesthetics. Streamlining, inspired by aviation, emphasized sleek curves and aerodynamic shapes. Cars like the Chrysler Airflow and the Bugatti Type 57 exemplified this trend.
4. Post-War Boom and Muscle Cars
a. Post-World War II Boom
After World War II, car production soared. Families embraced sedans like the Chevrolet Bel Air and the Ford Fairlane. The 1950s saw tailfins, chrome, and optimism. Drive-in theaters and roadside diners became part of the American dream.
b. Muscle Cars and Horsepower Wars
The 1960s brought muscle cars—powerful, V8-engine beasts. The Ford Mustang, Chevrolet Camaro, and Dodge Charger ruled the streets. The horsepower wars escalated, and drag racing became a cultural phenomenon.
5. Environmental Concerns and Innovations
a. Oil Crisis and Compact Cars
The 1970s oil crisis shifted priorities. Compact cars like the Volkswagen Beetle and Toyota Corolla gained popularity. Fuel efficiency and emissions control became critical.
b. Hybrid and Electric Cars
In the 21st century, environmental awareness led to hybrid and electric vehicles. The Toyota Prius pioneered hybrid technology, while Tesla’s electric cars redefined performance and sustainability.
6. The Road Ahead: Autonomous Vehicles and Beyond
a. Autonomous Driving
Self-driving cars are no longer science fiction. Companies like Waymo and Tesla are pushing the boundaries of autonomy. The future promises safer roads and shared mobility.
b. Sustainability and Beyond
As we move forward, sustainability remains paramount. Hydrogen fuel cells, solar-powered cars, and urban mobility solutions will shape the next chapters in automotive history.
Conclusion
From steam carriages to electric supercars, the automobile’s evolution mirrors our progress as a society. Each turn of the wheel brings new challenges, innovations, and dreams. So, fasten your seatbelt—we’re still on an exhilarating ride

GE Aerospace developing hybrid engines for single-aisle jets. (Reuters)
GE Aerospace (GE.N), opens new tab is developing a hybrid electric engine with the hopes it will power next-generation narrow-body jets by the middle of the next decade.
While the technology is still being tested, should GE be successful, it could produce hybrid-engine jets - like a Toyota Prius of the skies - that would go a long way toward cutting the aviation industry's carbon emissions worldwide, half of which come from single-aisle jets.
Hybrid cars are common on the roads, but decarbonizing the aerospace industry is considered much more difficult. In hybrid engines, an aircraft uses several energy sources while in flight. Airbus (AIR.PA), opens new tab estimates the mix of energy sources - jet fuel or sustainable aviation fuels combined with electricity – reduces fuel consumption by up to 5% compared to a standard flight.
GE Aerospace is working with NASA on a project that will embed electric motors or generators in a high-bypass turbofan to supplement power during different phases of operation, company executives said.
On Wednesday, the company said it has completed the initial tests of the hybrid components and a baseline test of the engine. It next plans to test the components and the engine together.
The global aviation industry has set a goal of net-zero emissions by 2050. But technologies such as electric and hydrogen-powered aircraft are still unproven, making decarbonization a formidable challenge for the industry, which generates about 2% of global emissions.

Scene break teaser for chapter 5!
A Full House-El: Luthorcorp’s Surprising New Business Partner.
The Edge of Tomorrow - April 16th, 2016
Article by Mike Young
History is rife with examples of companies that reached just that bit too far, people who promised just that bit too much and were unable to back up their claims. Companies that made one fatal mistake, and realized too late just how rickety their lofty towers were. Blockbuster refused to buy Netflix; Kodak refused to shift into the digital camera industry; Palm PDA’s thought that cell phones were a ‘fad’ and refused to buy into it. And, most recently; House El Incorporated has partnered with LuthorCorp.
House El Incorporated, more commonly known as ‘Elco,’ is a newer business in the tech scene. Launching late in 2012, Elco’s claim to fame is their alien outlook on the industry - literally. They broke into the scene with the Icon One, a cellular phone that has rapidly risen in popularity due to its slim size, large battery life, and processing power. The phone is quite literally decades ahead of the market, for a rather simple reason -
It uses alien technology to get there. The company’s CEO, a young woman named Kara Zor-El, is famously Kryptonian; she has founded her company on technology from beyond the stars, and aims to win the big bucks by monopolizing her hold on tech leagues beyond our development.
That would be a remarkably efficient way to climb to the top of the tech industry, if the Icon hadn’t been swiftly surrounded in scandal; its power source and method of transmission required strenuous testing before it could be introduced to the market. Testing that the phone is still going through four years later - the Icon has hit the market, but many experienced voices in the sector believe that such leaps in technology may be a bit beyond humanity’s reach.
Elco hasn’t released a new item since, apparently frightened by how seriously Earth takes the safety of its citizens. The Icon has rapidly faded from the public eye, a lack of innovation meaning newer phones have taken its spot on the stage. Now, the company is promising something entirely different: infinite energy! If that sounds a bit fantastical to you, you aren’t alone. Ms. Zor-El recently held a meeting with several automobile companies; Ford, Porsche, Toyota, and Volkswagen were all intrigued by the promise of new engines to run electric cars on - engines that could provide limitless power with no need for fuel or recharging. We spoke to one member of the Ford board of directors, who was at the meeting, and he was less than enthused by the idea.
“She’s promising something that just isn’t there,” Richard Mietz told us, at The Edge of Tomorrow. “The engine she mentions is still in the labs; I would be interested in seeing more but [Ms. Zor-El] isn’t willing to share the fine details. She wants promises and contracts, but refuses investment - I don’t think she understands how things are done here. Currently, all we know is that there may or may not be an engine, it may or may not work - and she wants people to buy it as soon as it hits the market. I’m not sold.”
Other sources in the industry say the same - Elco’s ‘Waveform Resonance Engine’ is expected to take just as long, if not longer than the Icon to verify and test before it can hit the market. With the declining sales of the Icon and Elcos lack of income, most analysts expect the company to go under within the next two years.
Luckily for them, a new company seems rather eager to jump onto the sinking ship.
---
Nothing quite like some sleezy right-leaning media to shine perspective on things, hm? Bit of a delay for this chapter as I started a new job recently, hopefully chapter 6 will come quicker.

Gear.
I was trying to explain how different brands of audio equipment stack up to my son-in-law. I related it to cars. He knows about cars. Each brand and model has certain features and capabilities and quality.
Some car companies have incredible engineering and others just competent. The Best Engines are probably in BMWs but they are really complex and almost frightening to maintain. The best Chassis are Porsche as they make nothing that does not handle well. The Engines are pretty good too. The Best build quality is Rolls Royce but it is only a middling performance sedan. Toyotas and Nissans and Mazdas and Hondas are all very good and arguably make the best all around vehicles you can buy.
My S-I-L knows cars so associating an audio brand with a car brand encodes a lot of secondary information that takes a long time to communicate otherwise.
It started by me describing my Audio Research equipment as like BMW. Brilliant design, high quality, but following a specific flavor of high performance. Nothing is less than very good, but occasional explorations of design did not turn out as expected.
"Who is Porsche?"; he asked. (He owns a Porsche GT3.) I thought about it and came up with Yamaha. Great engineering design, excellent build, but with quirks.
What about Mercedes? That was easy, McIntosh. Old and established with a very focused vision of who they are. They adapt to new technology, but there is something to always remind you that they were around at the beginning. They make respected Tube electronics and even the transistor stuff has output transformers. A person I knew a long time ago described Mercedes as German Taxi Cabs.
What about the Toyota or Hondas? Any Japanese brand is good. Technics, Denon, Pioneer, Kenwood, and of course Yamaha. In general Japanese companies have a real sense of pride. It is a country that values the skill to make samurai swords by smelting iron bearing sand with charcoal then forging the metal into a weapon with no real modern purpose aside from pride of workmanship.
He was obviously thinking about performance so ordinary less expensive brands were not considered.
Rolls Royce was also not considered as who wants super expensive extreme build quality, but only performance that any Toyota or Honda could match. (RR is owned by BMW but they aint BMWs) There are many brands you could link to RR most of eye-watering expense, often pretty, but no better than far more common brands.
My knowledge of cars and electronics is not encyclopedic. I can confidently work on either when necessary up to a limit. This lets me judge things on a more sophisticated level than the average.
He is buying a new house with space for a system. He wants to have speakers like mine as he loves the sound, as do I. But the rest is up in the air. He can afford new high end stuff, but my mantra is shop the old stuff. If its still around it has proven itself. He can start with most of my spare system until the speakers are built. Then replace the bits with better stuff as it comes available.
I want to insulate him from salesmen at the local Audio Boutiques. They have to sell to survive. We do not have to buy to survive.

A theory
People would be more enthusiastic about electric cars if they were more stupid technology.
And what I mean by this is: The approach to electric cars comes from a more Tech Futurist, Brave New World, "The tech singularity will evolve humanity!" mentality, not designed for the homesteading truck driver.
That's not going to attract Farmer Ned who needs a cheap, reliable way to bring lots of heavy, rambunctious loads from A to B and survive like a Toyota Hilux. That's not going to attract the 16-19 year old boys that want to have a sweet ride with a lot of power to show off their youth and potential and power on the road and ability to drive. That's not going to attract the diesel loving woman that likes the power and efficiency of the engine.
If you want to attract people to electric cars and get people more enthusiastic about them, you need to make the cars dumber. You need to make it so you can TOTALLY OWN the cars and not need a million software updates. You need to make it so some fellow named Bob can institute a clever repair of the mechanical parts with clever use of welding and a few ordered parts.
The mentality that people shouldn't be able to OWN their own vehicles as property has to die, if you want people to drive electric cars. The end user needs to be able to just get in, turn the key and drive with as few digital computer bits as an I.C.E. from the 1967.
But that's not the direction Brave New Worlders want people to go. They aren't trying to sell a car, they're trying to shoehorn people down a path they may not necessarily want to go. Where the software makers dictate and gatekeep on if your car runs or not, it can be shut off externally via a signal, or the data accessed without your awareness or permission.
The first people to be able to make Absolutely Dumb electric cars that just run with the torque and energy efficiency of a standard EV but have all the personal privacy and private ownership of a classic automobile, will make a mint.
Electric vehicles do not need a lot of potentially carcinogenic lubricants and oils in the engine because magnetic fields and electricity do most of the driving for them. They don't need expensive chemical fuels, even if electricity expenses may grow as more people use them. They don't need expensive catalytic converters with rare metals, because they don't produce noxious fumes out the exhaust pipe. They can be stripped down powerhouses.
You just need batteries or capacitors big enough to store the charge that'd give you as much work as a tank of gasoline or diesel. And that's it. Outside that, it's all brake pads and non-ICE engine stuff. Maybe some electronics for luxury.
Design an electric car for the stiff who has to buy a cheap A-to-B vehicle and doesn't NEED stuff like self-warming seats, that's just a powerful body so they can pick up and move shit and not spend a fortune repairing and replacing things, or maintenance and repair is so easy that the mechanics can get in, switch out parts, get out, and get people on their way. ICE engines are very complex and complicated, electric motors are nowhere near as complicated or should be that expensive.
But the Brave New World people don't WANT this sort of availability, they want it too expensive for the poor layman to afford, because they don't like the idea people can just get up and move thousands of pounds of vehicle and belongings so easily.

Why Toyota Used Cars Are a Smart Investment
Welcome to our blog post! Today, we are going to discuss why Toyota used cars are a smart investment. We understand that purchasing a used car can be a major decision, and we want to highlight the benefits and advantages of choosing a Toyota.
From quality and reliability to affordability and fuel efficiency, Ferntree Gully Toyota used cars offer a range of features that make them an excellent choice for any buyer. So, let's dive in and explore why Toyota used cars should be at the top of your list!
Quality and Reliability:
When it comes to quality and reliability, Toyota has built a reputation that is hard to beat. For years, Toyota has consistently produced vehicles that are known for their durability and long-lasting performance. Whether it's a brand-new model or a used car, Toyota's commitment to quality remains unwavering.
One of the reasons behind Toyota's reputation for reliability is their meticulous manufacturing process. Every Toyota vehicle undergoes rigorous testing and inspection to ensure that it meets the highest standards of quality. From the materials used to the engineering techniques employed, every aspect of a Toyota car is designed to withstand the test of time.
Don't just take our word for it - the numbers speak for themselves. According to various reliability studies, Toyota consistently ranks among the top automakers for reliability. Additionally, customer testimonials and reviews abound, with many Toyota owners sharing stories of their vehicles surpassing the 200,000-mile mark without major issues. These real-life experiences serve as a testament to the long-lasting nature of Toyota used cars.
Resale Value:
One of the key advantages of investing in a Toyota used car is its strong resale value. Toyota vehicles hold their value exceptionally well, often outperforming other brands in the used car market. This is largely due to Toyota's reputation for quality and reliability.
When it comes time to sell or trade-in your Toyota, you can expect to receive a higher resale value compared to other vehicles. This means that you can recoup a significant portion of your initial investment, making a Toyota used car a smart financial decision.
Certain Toyota models or features hold their value exceptionally well. For example, the Toyota Tacoma, known for its durability and off-road capabilities, retains its value better than many other trucks in its class. Similarly, Toyota's hybrid models, such as the Prius, offer excellent fuel efficiency and retain their value due to their eco-friendly features.
Affordability:
In addition to quality and resale value, affordability is another major advantage of choosing a Toyota used car. Buying a used Toyota can be a more cost-effective option compared to purchasing a brand-new vehicle.
One of the main reasons for this affordability is depreciation. New cars tend to lose a significant portion of their value in the first few years. By opting for a used Toyota, you can avoid the steep depreciation curve and enjoy a more budget-friendly purchase.
Toyota offers a range of popular models that are known for their affordability without compromising on quality. For instance, the Toyota Corolla has long been a favorite among budget-conscious buyers, offering a reliable and fuel-efficient option at an affordable price point. Similarly, the Toyota Camry provides a comfortable and spacious sedan with a reputation for longevity.
Tumblr media
Fuel Efficiency:
Toyota is known for its commitment to producing fuel-efficient vehicles, and this extends to their used cars as well. Opting for a used Toyota can help you save money on fuel costs in the long run.
Toyota has been a pioneer in hybrid technology, with models like the Prius leading the way in fuel efficiency. These hybrid options combine a conventional gasoline engine with an electric motor, resulting in impressive fuel economy and reduced emissions. By choosing a used Toyota hybrid, not only will you save money at the pump, but you'll also contribute to a greener future.
Safety Features:
When it comes to safety, Toyota is committed to providing advanced features in their vehicles. Many used Toyota models come equipped with a range of safety technologies that enhance driver and passenger protection.
Toyota's dedication to safety is evident through features such as collision mitigation systems, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, and blind-spot monitoring. These technologies help prevent accidents and reduce the severity of collisions, ensuring the well-being of everyone on board.
Furthermore, Toyota has received numerous safety awards and accolades over the years. These accolades validate Toyota's commitment to safety and provide added peace of mind when choosing a used Toyota.
Warranty and Certification Programs:
To further enhance the buying experience, Toyota offers warranty programs and certified pre-owned options for their used cars. These programs provide additional peace of mind and protect buyers from unexpected expenses.
Toyota's warranty programs may vary depending on the age and mileage of the used car. However, they typically offer coverage for major components, providing reassurance against potential mechanical issues. Additionally, Toyota's certified pre-owned program ensures that used cars meet strict quality standards. These vehicles undergo a comprehensive inspection and come with an extended warranty, giving buyers added confidence in their purchase.
Conclusion:
When you choose Ferntree Gully Toyota used cars, you can be confident in its long-lasting performance and dependability. Whether you're looking for a fuel-efficient hybrid or a budget-friendly sedan, Toyota offers a range of options to suit your needs.
So, why wait? Consider a Toyota used car for your next vehicle purchase and experience the benefits firsthand. Thank you for joining us on this journey, and we hope you found this blog post helpful. We’re so excited that Toyota has decided to revive the iconic Land Cruiser SUV! Toyota of Orlando is here to let you know what to expect from the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser when it arrives next spring.
Tumblr media
You may remember that in 2021 Toyota released the last Land Cruiser model, which was a large luxury SUV. It had a super sleek and sophisticated design with great off-roading capabilities and featured a 5.7L V8 engine. The negatives of this vehicle were the lack of fuel efficiency and the high MSRP - more than $80k. The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser will have some major differences and improvements - here are some of the biggest elements:
Bigger focus on off-roading functionality
Not as “luxury” as the 2021 Land Cruiser
MSRP around $50k range
i-FORCE-MAX turbocharged 2.4L four-cylinder hybrid powertrain
The 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser: What to Expect
Here are just a few details that our Orlando team knows about the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser so far!
Global TNGA-F body-on-frame made from extremely strong steel, giving more rigidity to the chassis
4.4 inches narrower and 1.2 inches shorter than 2021 model
Three different models - the Toyota Land Cruiser, Toyota Land Cruiser 1958, and Toyota Land Cruiser First Edition
i-FORCE MAX engine will get 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque (plus better fuel efficiency)
Full-time four-wheel drive system with center locking differential and electronically controlled two-speed transfer case
Let’s Talk About the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Design Features

Neo-Atlantis Codex: Part III: Grid Storage
So, you want to use some unstable form of power. Wind and Solar are the biggest ones, but we could also add tidal and microhydro to the list.
Currently, 95% of grid power storage, world wide, is pumped hydro. This is in theorygood, as it does work. The problem is that regions that can use pumped hydro will typically have geography to use regular hydro, which is very, very, very efficient. But you can add pumped hydro to an existing system.
For home power storage, we use chemical cells. Typically Lithium. By current estimates, we do not have enough lithium and cobalt in the world to replace our cars, nevermind the entire grid. A lot of the mining is also done by child slaves in Africa. They also use water leeching, which works. but also uses a LOT of fresh water. It's often done in deserts, in which fresh water is the most precious thing you can have.
Lithium is also EXTREMELY flammable.
What about other chemicals? Well, we can make chemical cells out of salt water and iron. This used to require a pump, and which made it hard to miniaturize. Anything mechanical is also prone to mechanical breakdown. They have recently developed technology to elimitate the use of pumps. It's still not good for grid storage, but would be good for home power storage. It might make sense to move to a paradigm that the state provides power when it can, and homes had to store their own power. This would work, although it would require a complete change of our paradigm, and would be expensive for the poor. Which is the problem for anything to do with power, as any increase in energy cost punishes the poor, and will drop people into poverty. It will also kill off the vulnerable.
Earth Batteries. You take something with a high durability and heat capacity, like earth, stone, brick, etc. You put it inside an insulated shell. You have a heater inside. Power added from the outside becomes heat inside. The heat can be kept for a week without too much loss. You can either use this directly for heat, or use it to heat water into steam. Doing so would allow it to produce electricity. This is suitable for neighbourhoods or industrial applications. The problem with a steam engine is that you would likely need a steam engineer, which are expensive. It would also require individual neighbourhoods to be self-governing villages/shires, which would help with so many other problems. We'll talk about this later in Neo-Atlantis government/electoral system. This would reduce the work required from other parts of the power system, and in theory, in some areas, these neighbourhoods/villages/shires/wards could be entirely self-generating. If California could shed it's horrifying Fascist control, it has more than enough sunlight that individual neighbourhoods could be self-generating if it could store the power. This would also prevent blackouts. Everytime I look back, it gets further way, but in 2003, the entire Eastern side of Canada, and the New England had a power outage. Because of how connected the grids are. Independent neighbourhood production would completely eliminated this. If you had a tree down over the power lines, it would hurt at most, one neighbourhood.
Compressed air storage. The best usage of this is, funny enough, CO2. You have a giant balloon, kind of an expanding membrane. You hook it up to a pump and a turbine and heat exchanger. Power causes the pump to pump the CO2 from the balloon into the tank. You release CO2 from the tank through the turbine, and it produces power. The big drawback for this is that it requires a lot of space. Which makes it perfect for isolated solar / wind power plants. This also requires nothing in the way of novel technology, and is perfect for large grid storage.
Hydrogen. Contrary to expectations, hydrogen fuel cells never went away. Both Toyota and Hyundai have production Hydrogen fuel cell cars. Hydrogen combustion cars are also perfectly viable, if not currently commencial. Hydrogen can be produced from water through electrolysis, though not efficiently so. It can be produced mechanically from natural gas / methane; the mechanical converters use a portion of the power they produce to power themselves. Before the government were... what?.. afraid the fuel cells might actualy work? I'm old enough to remember the promise of a Hydrogen Highway from California to British Columbia to allow you to drive hydrogen fuel cell cars up and down the coast. Well, they forgot about that. Before this happened, there was a research group that made it with algae in glass tubes. All you needed to do was pump water through them. People in California could probably add it to a closed system in their car.
Synthetic Fuel. Synthetic fuel has been used, in a small scale, in racing for years. Formula 1 is also planning to replace it's entire usage with synthetic fuel in the future, apparently from atmospheric carbon dioxide and wind power. This would have the advantage of requiring no time or money to implement. It would use our existing fuel infrastructure, while also allowing the small producers to be created everywhere.

The “Toyota Fronx” Exists, And May Arrive In 2024!
The Toyota-badged Fronx will likely get cosmetic and badging differences inside and out as seen on other shared models between Toyota and Maruti
Tumblr media
●It will be the fifth shared model between Toyota and Maruti.
●Toyota could benefit from having its own Fronx as its new sub-4m ‘SUV’ offering.
●Will likely share its engine options with the Maruti Fronx, including the CNG powertrain.
●It’s also expected to have the Fronx’ features including the 9-inch touchscreen and auto AC.
●Launch expected in 2024, with prices likely to start from Rs 8 lakh (ex-showroom).
By now, you must have noticed the few models being introduced are cross-badged products as part of the Maruti Suzuki-Toyota alliance. Some popular names include the Maruti Grand Vitara-Toyota Hyryder SUVs and the more recent duo of the Toyota Innova Hycross-based Maruti Invicto premium MPV. It has now come to the fore that Toyota will launch its own version of the Maruti Fronx, sometime in 2024.
Why Does Toyota Need A Fronx?
Tumblr media
One of the main reasons for Toyota to offer a rebadged Fronx that it lacks a sub-4m SUV in its Indian portfolio. In contrast, its alliance partner – Maruti Suzuki – has two models in this category, making its SUV range more accessible with a potential starting price well under the Rs 10 lakh mark.
A Familiar Treatment
Tumblr media
The Toyota-badged Fronx will likely get a few cosmetic and badge differences inside and out over Maruti’s crossover SUV as seen on some shared products between the two carmakers like the Baleno-Glanza and the Innova Hycross-Invicto duo. The most prominent visual changes are expected to be the grille, headlights, and interior colour scheme.
Powertrain Details Of The Maruti Fronx
Specification
Tumblr media
The Maruti Fronx’ 1-litre turbo-petrol engine comes with mild-hybrid technology. We expect Toyota’s version of the Fronx to come with the same set of powertrains, while the CNG variants might be launched later.

Audi hires Jani as simulator driver for F1 team | 2023 F1 season
Audi has made its first driver hiring for its new team which will enter Formula 1 in 2026. Le Mans 24 Hour winner and World Endurance Champion Neel Jani has been named as Audi’s simulator driver for development of their 2026 power unit. The German marque will compete in F1 for the first time when the series’ new power unit regulations come into effect in three years’ time. Sauber, which currently races as Alfa Romeo, will partner with Audi and become their factory outfit in the world championship. Audi’s announcement is the latest step in their design and development of their 1.6-litre V6 turbo power unit after work on a specialist facility to produce their engine began at their Neuburg site. Jani won the World Endurance Championship with Porsche in the LMP1 category in 2016 as well as that year’s Le Mans 24 Hours along with co-drivers Romain Dumas and Marc Lieb, famously taking the win on the final lap after the leading Toyota stopped on track with a failure. Audi’s new hiring has extensive Formula 1 test and simulator experience, having acted at reserve driver at Red Bull. Jani also participated in every practice session for Toro Rosso in 2006. Jani will help develop Audi’s F1 power unit for 2026 Audi’s member of the board of management for technical development, Oliver Hoffman, said that simulator work would be critical to developing their first ever F1 power train. “Just like in production development, simulation plays a major role in our Formula 1 project,” said Hoffman. “Our simulator is an important tool for the power unit development. It requires a development driver who in addition to a grasp of technology brings versatile experience to the project, especially in terms of energy management in racing conditions.” Jani said “it is both an honour and a great responsibility to be involved in a project of this magnitude at an early stage. “I am sure that with my experience from Formula 1 and LMP projects I can forge good links between theory and practice.” Advert | Become a RaceFans supporter and go ad-free 2023 F1 season Browse all 2023 F1 season articles via RaceFans - Independent Motorsport Coverage https://www.racefans.net/
