Plymouth Reliant
In this Aug. 7, 1980, file photo, Chrysler Corp. Chairman Lee Iacocca with the first K Car, a Plymouth Reliant, in Detroit. Former Chrysler CEO Iacocca became a folk hero for rescuing the company. Lee Iacocca and Joe Czar (Production Manager at right) drove the first K Car offline at the Chrysler Jefferson Plant. The Chrysler K platform was developed just as the company faltered in the market, at first underpinning a modest range of compact/mid-size sedans and wagons—and eventually underpinning nearly fifty different models, including all-wheel drive variants. The right car at the right time. They were initially very profitable, and Iacocca credited them with allowing the company to pay off its bankruptcy loans early.
Following the 1973 oil crisis, compounded by the 1979 energy crisis, American consumers began to buy fuel-efficient, low-cost automobiles built in Japan. With the market for large V-8 engined cars declining, American domestic auto manufacturers found themselves trying to develop compact vehicles that could compete with the Japanese imports of Toyota, Honda, and Nissan in price and finish. The K-cars (Dodge Aries, Plymouth Reliant, Chrysler LeBaron, Dodge 400, and, in Mexico, Dodge Dart) sold over 2 million vehicles from 1981 to 1988

OMG I'm such a dumbass I knew you did one on the GR Yaris before too, and I love her ALSO, but I actually meant the GR Supra 😳🫣 (slip of the tongue)
Gotcha.
Since I managed to take some two weeks to answer this (got distracted both by real life obligations and other posts that were meant to be very quick to make. Meant to.) y'all may have forgotten, but our dear friend of the blog had asked for opinions on the GR Yaris, hinting to its controversial status. Turns out the GR Supra is what that request, and thus that hint, was actually about - so let's talk about the car and the controversy that engulfs it.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In 1993, Toyota launched the fourth generation of its rear wheel drive sportscar (well, arguably a bit of a Grand Tourer, i.e. something more oriented to cruising than a sportscar) the Supra - which was born a quarter century earlier as a more upmarket, six cylinder version of the Celica, graduating from Celica Supra to its own dignified name with the third generation I talked about that one time I forgot to check what blog I was reblogging with.
Tumblr media
But this time, things would be different. Most notably because the inline six the Mk4 Supra came out with was an absolute MONSTER.
Tumblr media
Remember how I talked about the GT-R's RB26 engine being one of the greatest, most coveted production engines to ever come out of Japan? Well, the 2JZ-GTE is the other.
It was larger at 3 liters, no less powerful, and to reduce turbocharger lag it used two of them sequentially: first air goes in the smaller, more responsive turbo, then gradually some of it gets sent to the bigger turbo to make it start spinning, then when it gets going the two are finally used in conjunction. (Imagine the big turbo as a hung husband that takes a while to get it up and the small turbo as an eager stepson ready to take over until the hung one can join in for a spitroast. Or something. I don't watch porn with real people, but from what I gather the plots seem to resemble how sequential turbos work.) It even at one point got Variable Valve Timing, i.e. the ability to vary the time in which the valves open depending on engine speed, which allows to optimize tuning for performance and efficiency! (Cool thing to go over in detail if y'all want me to.) And also, the kind of things that engine is able to take make me wish I hadn't used up my porn analogy quota.
See, to chop off eons of nuance, an engine is just a big block of metal with a lot of bits attached, and the two main measures of an engine's potential are the slope of the line in the Bits Fiddled With / Power Output graph and how far up (It's up, right? The second axis you specify is the vertical one, right?) you can take it before the block becomes the weakest link - with another important point being when you need to start messing with internals, i.e. the components inside the engine, e.g. pistons (the things the boom pushes down), camshaft (the thing the pistons spin) and connecting rods (you can guess).
Tumblr media
So for instance, just to make the point that an engine can be beloved without having much overall tuning potential, in one of Toyota's most beloved engines, the 4A-GE four cylinder illustrated above (yes, the one from that white and black car in all the eurobeat videos), some pin the block's limit as low as 250hp. The 2JZ, tho? It can take 800hp without even messing with the internals, and once you get your grubby hands on those you can keep pushing the line to some 2000hp. That is two Bugattis. That is 40 times my car. That is well above the power level where "tires that will at any point grip" and "tires that are in any way road legal" stop intersecting.
I am not in the slightest exaggerating when I say that this and the Skyline GT-R are widely regarded as the top of Japan's 20th century automotive production. The Messi & Ronaldo of the Japanese Domestic Market. It is absolutely no coincidence this was the hero car in The Fast And The Furious.
Tumblr media
And then in 2002, as all things, its production ended, and given the abysmal sales and catastrophic recession, Toyota decided that would be that.
And then, years later, The Teasening began.
I want to stress, almost half of my conscious life (I choose to believe the stretch from birth to kindergarten is just run-up) the world was in some state of getting teased with talk of a new Supra. The trademark on the name was renewed in 2010. In 2014 they dropped the FT-1 concept, and of course that became speculation about what the production version would look like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Because come the fuck on, it's not gonna look like that.
Or was it?
Only five entire years and much more teasing later would we officially get an answer, when after seventeen years, the Toyota GR Supra (and for those wondering what GR means, y'all should've clicked the Yaris link >:C) hit the streets.
Tumblr media
You know what, good enough.
Good enough to earn itself a sea of words of praise, Jason Cammisa's "The most punch-above-its-weight sportscar ever made" just some among them.
It did have its share of problems at the start, like its power being 335hp and not 382, a lack of manual transmission, and the inability to spec it with a less powerful 4 cylinder engine - well, I don't know who considered that last one a problem, but Toyota's updates solved that one too.
The Supra has a much bigger problem than those though, one no little update can solve. That red car in the background.
Tumblr media
See, the new Supra is actually a joint venture with BMW, who made a new model of its Z4 roadster out of the platform. And unlike with the other joint-venture sportscar Toyota sells, people are big mad about that. Why?
See, the interior is engulfed in BMW switchgear and the drivetrain is all BMW (the manual gearbox took until this year to come out because BMW did not have one for that engine so Toyota had to modify another BMW transmission to fit), giving people the impression that this was less of a joint venture and more of a BMW project that Toyota tacked its design on top of, which is a problem whether true or not.
See, a range-topping sportscar is supposed to represent what the brand is capable of - having it done by someone else (or so the criticism goes) is a bit like performing Hallelujah in playback.
Actually, a better musical analogy: You know "I'm back bitch" singles? When a humongous artist drops a new record with a humongous lead single about absolutely nothing but reaffirming they're the biggest fucking deal in the universe? Without Me, Bad, Gimme More, so on. Well, think of SexyBack - one of the most monumental phenomenons of its decade, most incontrovertibly proving Justin Timberlake sat atop the goddamn world. Now, imagine if, after all the years that went by between that record and the next, when he finally came out with Suit And Tie all the verses were Jay-Z. Going from a humongous statement about having the power to reach the top of the game and stay there to having to get absolutely carried by what in this logic is essentially a competitor. Basically, that's the critics' complaint: the supra went from 2JZ to too much Jay-Z.
And therein lies the other problem of the Supra: the Supra.
Tumblr media
See, any time you evaluate something, you do so relative to its context - and when you give it a nameplate, you make that context include where else that nameplate has been. An undeserved name may not just be stupid, but even outright kill the car in some's eyes, see the case of the Dodge Dart, or get me to talk about the Ford Capri prototype recently spotted if you want to find out what I'm like when I lose my cool. (I'd liken this phenomenon to undeserved Grammies but I already used my music analogy quota too.) So the Toyota Supra does not just need to be good, it needs to deserve the name. And some argue it doesn't. But why? This thing is no less powerful, no slower, hell it's not even any bigger or heavier and we've gone over how rare that is these days! So is it the lack of backseats and a targa version? No, no one gives a crap about those. It's something deeper.
Sometimes, the problem with a revival is people base their expectation not on what the original was like in the context of its time but what it's like in the context of today (for example, I've heard people call the latest GT-R "too computerized, too assisted, far from the pure driving experience of its predecessors", when its predecessors had some of the most technologically advanced driving assists of their time and could only be called "pure" and "analog" by comparison with cars decades newer). But of course, that'll only be some people - so if what the original car looks like to modern eyes and what the original car represented at its time are two different enough concepts, any revival will receive some criticism for not being one of the two.
But for the Supra, this compounds with another problem: the original Supra (as in the previous generation, since no one gives a crap about the first three), to modern eyes, looks like a thousand-horsepower flame-spitting beast, because that's what all Supras have been turned into, and that's why you know of Supras in the first place (it sure isn't because people bought it!), and that, consciously or not, exacerbates the problem of misplaced expectations to a level akin to hearing an NBA player is about to have a brother and expecting the baby to be a 6'4" three-shooter.
But I wasn't asked about the controversies, I was asked about my take. And my take is: no realistic expectation of what a Supra would look like today was disappointed - at least not by where the car stands today. Well, unless the expectation involved backseats.
"But it was made by BMW" and so? This is a new Supra, and a good one - what does it matter how it got here? Especially when this is an upgrade over the Z4 in every way - looks way better, drives better, and now has a manual that the Z4 doesn't.
Okay, almost every way: the Supra's roof won't get out of the way. If only though, if only. Could you imagine a Toyota product that looks this good, sounds this good, goes this fast, and has a drop top? ...and maybe backseats?
Well, I can.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, the badge and core concept may have some people consider it from midlife crisis mobile to old man's car. (though we know it's not a car bought by old men because if that was the case someone would be buying these). But just try to imagine sitting in this thing.
Tumblr media
Take a couple of seconds to take in that picture and truly immerse yourself. You're in a Lexus LC500 Convertible, with a V8 at your right foot's command, its spectacular sound ready to battle the perfect sound system serenading you with your fanciest CD, because of course Lexuses still come with CD players.
Are you immersed? Okay: Someone just called your Lexus a midlife crisis car. See? You don't give a shit either, do ya.
Automatic only though. The pain. Oh, and it kind of costs as much as two Supras. But, you know, neither of those Supras will be convertibles!
Links in blue are posts of mine about the topic in question - if you liked this post, you might like those!

Speaking of the Skyline GT-R, it was a straight 6 engine. The first-generation GT-R, which debuted in 1969, was also a straight-six engine, and its predecessor, the 1964 GTB, had a 1500 with an extended engine room and a straight-six engine. The R32 GT-R, which returned to the circuit in 1990 and went on a winning streak, was naturally equipped with a straight-six engine. However, in May 2002, a GT-R that appeared in the All Japan GT Championship SUGO was equipped with a new "V6 engine." All GT-R models were changed to V6.
In March 1990, the Skyline GT-R (BNR32) made its spectacular debut at the West Japan Circuit at the opening round of the All Japan Touring Car Championship. He achieved his first victory by holding off strong opponents such as the Ford Sierra RS500 and Toyota Supra, and since then has won 30 races.
They would be on an unbeatable 20 race winning streak until the Group A regulations expire at the end of the year. The overwhelming speed of its RB26DETT engine (inline 6-cylinder 2771cc+ twin turbo with nominally over 470 horsepower/02 specification) and four-wheel drive completely changed the conventional wisdom of touring cars around the world.
The All Japan GT Championship, which started in 1993, rapidly grew to become the most popular racing event in Japan. The main battlefield for the GT-R has also shifted here. In 1993, it won 3 out of 3 races, in 1994 it won 2 out of 5 races against Porsche and Ferrari, in 1995 it was replaced with the BCNR33 and won 2 out of 6 races, and in 1996 it won 1 out of 6 races during the overwhelming dominance of McLaren F1. In 1997 1 win in 6 races with the rise of Supra, 2 wins in 7 races in 1998 with the rise of NSX, 1 win in 7 races in 1999 after replacing with BNR34. 2 wins in 7 races in 2000, 1 win in 7 races in 2001, and 0 wins in 8 races in 2002. This is a total of 15 wins in the All Japan GT Championship. It wasn't until 1999 that Toyota's Supra and Honda's NSX gained strength, and a close-up competition between them and the Skyline GT/R began. Due to changes in the regulations unique to the series that equalize the combat power of each car, it is impossible to say whether the machines are superior or inferior just by looking at the trends in the number of wins, but since the beginning of the new century, the GT-R has been relatively competitive. The chances of winning have diminished.
Under these circumstances, the decision was made to switch to a V6 engine midway through the 2002 season. The rear-wheel drive BNR34, equipped with the new VQ30DETT engine (V6 cylinder 2987cc+ twin turbo, over 485 horsepower), showed off its good origins by finishing in 2nd place at the 5th race at Fuji and at the 7th race at MINE. The team is disappointed that it ended 2002 without a win.
The team is determined to make amends for the lack of a win in 2002 in 2003.
The 2003 machine has changed before and after due to changes in vehicle regulations.
It became possible to use a vibrator frame, and the low hood shape of the 2003 GT-R became a hot topic among fans as soon as test runs began. We need to pay attention to future developments.
However, on the other hand, there are many GT-R fans who are disappointed that the long-loved straight-six (RB) will be replaced by the V6 (VQ). This was an era when in-line six-cylinder engines were becoming more valuable, and the RB engine's great appeal was its torque characteristics that appealed to the rider's five senses, as well as its good engine speed and vibration.
Each engine type has advantages and disadvantages. While reflecting the various needs of each era, from a global perspective as an automobile manufacturer, we created products specifically designed for motorsports.
We come to the fact that it is difficult to make an engine exhaust. An RB engine that exhausts from the left side cannot be used in left-hand drive cars, and because of its length, it cannot be installed in front-wheel drive cars either. When considering the global automobile market, it is important to have an engine that can be used in left-hand drive and front-wheel drive cars, and the lightweight and compact V-type 6-cylinder VQ engine can be used for a variety of purposes.
It was.
VQ engine became a luxury in 1999
When it was first introduced in the Cefiro car, it was not an engine designed for motorsports use. However, the VQ was introduced into the motorsports scene one after another overseas. Overseas motorsports officials were quick to realize that it had high potential as a base engine for racing. For example, Spain's one-make formula, which is becoming increasingly popular, Grand Am racing sports cars, the Dakar Rally, and off-road racing in South Africa.
VQ is demonstrating high combat power.
The decision to equip the 2003 model GT-R with a V6 engine instead of the familiar straight-six was not a sales strategy, but an essential choice to improve the machine's competitiveness. I'm saying that.
At the ``Nissan Motorsports Press Conference'' held in February 2003 the keyword mentioned was ``fast GT-R.'' The revitalization of the GT-R, which emphasizes ``fast'' rather than ``strong,'' has just begun with the V-6 VQ engine.
PIC CAPTIONS
BNR32 (1990~1995)
In 1990, the GT-R myth returns. BNR32 begins a winning streak. The GT-R is back for the first time in about 20 years.
BCNR33 (1996~1998)
In 1998, E. Comas/Masami Kageyama, riding BCNR33, won the JGTC championship.
BNR34(1999~2002)
GT-R equipped with VQ engine participates in test race at JGTC Round 3 in 2002 (car No. 22)

Toyota Apologizes For Cheating On Vehicle Testing And Halts Production Of Three Models – Los Angeles California reporting
The company said the wrongdoing does not affect the safety of the vehicles already on roads
The wide-ranging faulty testing at Japan’s top automaker involved the use of inadequate or outdated data in collision tests, and incorrect testing of airbag inflation and rear-seat damage in crashes. Engine power tests also were found to have been falsified.
Toyota Motor Corp., based in Toyota city, central Japan, suspended production in Japan of the Corolla Fielder, Corolla Axio and Yaris Cross. The faulty tests were also found on discontinued models.
Certification problems surfaced at Toyota group companies, truck maker Hino Motors and Daihatsu Motor Co., specializing in small models, and Toyota Industries Corp., which makes machinery and auto parts.
Shinji Miyamoto, a Toyota executive overseeing customer satisfaction, said Toyota began looking into its own tests following the problems at the group companies.
The apparent unraveling of the testing systems at Toyota and its group companies is an embarrassment for an automaker that’s prided itself for decades on production finesse and a corporate culture based on empowering workers to make “ever-better cars.”
Toyoda said the company may have been too eager to get the tests done and abbreviated them at a time when model varieties were burgeoning.
Toyota sells more than 10 million vehicles around the world.

BL & Me: 2023 Edition
To celebrate my full first year as a BL fan I decided I wanted to do an end of the year list. Something to commemorate the absolutely wonderful fandom year I've had. Prior to watching my first BL, I had not participated in any fandoms since 2015. Getting back into it reminded how much fun it is and I've met and followed so many amazing people in the last year (technically, I watched my first BL in October 2022, so it's been more than a year...).
These lists are going to focus on the BLs (and two Thai dramas that wanted to be and probably should have been BLs) that came out during 2023 (or their finales aired in late January through February). Since I'm still playing catch up on older BLs, there are several that I watched for the first time this year but I might do a separate post for that.
Total # of BLs watched this year: 42
Thailand: 38 Dramas, 1 Movie
Japan: 1
Korea: 0
Taiwan: 2
Clearly I need to watch more from Korea. Currently I'm making my way through Taiwan's BLs so once I am sufficiently caught up on those, I will be moving over to catch up on Korean ones. Until the last month or so, I had never seen a Taiwanese BL, so that's what started me on watching those - I'm almost done with the ones that have been recommended to me so far.
It's plain to see that I love Thailand's approach to BL's the most; they are what hooked me into BL and keep me watching.
Most Anticipated BLs: Bed Friend, Between Us, Cutie Pie 2 You, Moonlight Chicken, Naughty Babe
My Highest Rated Shows on MyDramaList: I Feel You Linger in the Air (10), La Pluie (10), Moonlight Chicken (10), Our Dining Table (10), Laws of Attraction (9.5), Midnight Museum (9.5), My Dear Gangster Oppa (9.5), Only Friends (9.5), Shadow (9.5) and Kiseki: Dear to Me (9.5).
It's a very interesting mix of shows here - one from Taiwan, one from Japan, and the two regular Thai dramas.
Favorite New Trope: Waltzing Gays. 2023 said, "Let the gays dance!" and they did.
Memorable Fandom Moments (The Good, The Bad, And The Absurd):
Altering the name of Moonlight Chicken. When we heard the name of the show, it was impossible not to make fun of it just a little. Many a nickname/play on words was created for this show and it was so much fun to see what others would come up with.
The ONN fandom protesting the O part of their ship landing a new BL and a new BL partner (complete with hiring a truck to drive around with a sign).
The Pit Babe Omegaverse post breaking containment and topping out at just over 69k notes (NOICE).
Playing "Spot the Cameo" during Midnight Museum and watching while GMMtv marched out practically their entire pool of talent for the show and yet still needed both Gun and Nannon to play more than one character.
Playing "Spot the Cameo" for Kiseki: Dear to me as they practically had all the major BL actors cameo in the show.
The fandom exhaustion over the marketing/casting announcements for Red Peafowl and the eventual fandom decision to just worship our lord and savior Kuhn Feathers instead.
Best/Worst Use of Product Placement: (you decide which is which)
Midnight Museum using the product placement car to hit and kill a character.
Oiishi Green Tea being used as part of foreplay/foodplay in Dinosaur Love
The random Toyota Service Center call during a highly emotionally charged moment in Bake Me Please
Every single 7/11 scene in Venus in the Sky. Every single one.
The spicy meals used as torture devices in Kiseki: Dear to Me
Shows That Started Great But Couldn't Stick the Landing: Dangerous Romance, Hidden Agenda, Only Friends, Our Skyy 2 (select episodes), Step by Step
Best/Favorite Kisses:
GunCher "challenge" kiss (A Boss and A Babe episode 2)
TinnGunn bed kiss (My School President episode 12)
WinTeam poolside "fall into each other" kiss (Between Us episode 2)
JokeZo balcony kiss (Hidden Agenda episode 8)
YaiJom rain kiss (I Feel You Linger in the Air episode 7)
PalmNueng rooftop kiss (Never Let Me Go episode 5)
LianKuea wedding kiss (Cutie Pie 2 You episode 4)
(I could keep going but I'd be here forever so I'm stopping myself)
Worst/Yikes Kisses:
DinoRak (Dinosaur Love) - just... almost all of them. THERE IS SO MUCH TONGUE. Normally this is not a bad thing. However, here it's basically Dino tongue-bathing Rak's face like a dog and it did not work for me. Yikes.
KanghanSailom bathroom kiss (Dangerous Romance episode 6?) - I've tried to like it. I have. It's Perth. It's Chimon. It's AWKWARD. Yikes.
DanNai "locked in a room all night" kiss (Shadow episode 9) - it's bad because it's not reciprocated and IT HURTS DAMN IT.
Most Surprising/Memorable Show Production Moments:
Our Skyy 2 x Bad Buddy x A Tale of a Thousand Stars crossover announcement.
Finding out while watching Pit Babe episode one that it was Omegaverse after being told that aspect had been removed for the show.
Pixelated Butts/Genitals in The Sign
Mame landing McDonald's money for Wedding Plan
Gun Attaphan playing not one, not two, but three separate characters in Midnight Museum.
Feel free to use any of these categories if you're doing an end of the year list too; I can't wait to see what others might come up with.

SUZU-KAHE-KI?
Tumblr media
Hirotaka thought of fulfilling his long-standing dream which was Kizashi. Suzuki has been showcasing a concept car named Kizashi in different motor shows for a long time.
The concept 1 of Kizashi was showcased in 2007. Then again concept 2 was shown in 2007.
And then in 2008, the Kizashi Concept 3 was shown at the New York International Auto Show.
In 2011, Maruti Suzuki aimed for the stars with the Kizashi. This sleek, sporty sedan promised European handling, punchy power, and a shift towards a premium image. The car itself was a technical marvel, with a responsive engine and sharp dynamics. But despite its brilliance, the Kizashi's Indian journey was tragically short-lived, selling a mere 5,000 units.
Secondly, Suzuki's brand image in India was at odds with the Kizashi's aspirations.
Buyers associated Suzuki with affordable, fuel-efficient cars, not sporty sedans. The Kizashi's premium positioning felt like a disconnect, leaving potential buyers confused. Finally, the lack of a crucial diesel engine option, essential for fuel economy in India, dealt the final blow.
because this car got five-star ratings
in Euro NCAP and all other NCAPs. Now this car was very good but still, in 2014, Suzuki discontinued it in India and then in 2015 it completely disappeared from the world.
And after this, Suzuki never launched a proper D-segment car And as soon as the car came into the market, it proved that even a Suzuki car can be made big and powerful enough to compete with Honda and Toyota and even the Germans. This vehicle received very good ratings and within the first year of its launch, it also received two awards from Auto Pacific in America for annual vehicle satisfaction. Also, this car received two motoring awards in New Zealand in 2010 and according to Consumer Digest, it was a Best Buy car in 2011.
The big problem with this car was people were not buying it. And this was not happening only in India but also in the US market, only 5000-6000 units were being sold annually,
in Canada, only 600-700 units were being sold and in Japan, only 3379 units
were sold from 2009 to 2015. out of which 1 quarter of the car was purchased
by Japan's national police agency alone.
that Kizashi was one of the most powerful sedans available in India. It was Suzuki's brand image and this was the thing that Suzuki was trying to change with this vehicle.
Now, we people of India believe that Suzuki can make smaller cars only. Similarly, people all over the world also believe something similar.
 Task At Hand
You are the CMO of Suzuki India and have decided to ‘relaunch’ the Kizashi in Indian Market.
 Deliverables:
1) PPT consisting of: -Phase-wise Implementation Plan, Product life cycle, Budget for relaunch and marketing campaign, Marketing Strategies (2 conventional & 2 unconventional), SWOT analysis.
2) Facebook, Radio & Newspaper campaigns
3) Make STP and make Competitive Analysis based on your STP
Submission deadline: 12:45PM

Toyota starts firing staff as Japan’s EV reluctance begins to spread panic
Toyota starts firing staff as Japan’s EV reluctance begins to spread panic
P.S. No wonder no one wants to buy electric cars from a company whose management publicly denies electric car technology. It is impossible for a company to create an attractive product if its management does not have the enthusiasm to create it...They have told themselves that it is NOT possible to create an efficient electric car production technology and they will not be able to do it either... They will lose competition if they leave the current leadership...

The Legacy of the 86
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The concept behind the GR86 was originally derived from a 1980s Toyota Corolla, the AE86.
At the start of the 80s, rear-wheel drive (RWD) cars were beginning to go out of style as manufacturers could no longer ignore the cost-effective practicality of switching their drivetrains to front-wheel drive (FWD). The AE86 was introduced during this time as Toyota's final RWD version of the Corolla. When it debuted, it made an unimpressive 128 horsepower, and came out looking like any other boxy, boring old Corolla.
Tumblr media
Over time however, the AE86 revealed itself to be an exceptional case. Weighing in at only 2,300 lbs and carrying a nearly equal front-to-end weight distribution, the AE86 became well-known for its unique blend of balance and light weight. Eventually it would become an iconic vehicle, making a name for itself due to its impressive power-to-weight ratio, as well as low cost and reliability.
The AE86, with its mix of highly valuable attributes, quickly became a motorsports favorite for many car enthusiasts. It would also become instrumental in popularizing a new motorsport young drivers would invent in Japan's mountain roads called "Drifting".
Tumblr media
Fast forward to present day, its modern counterpart, the 86 (or "Hachi-Roku" as many enthusiasts now call it) share many of the same characteristics as the original AE86. Now further refined and streamlined to become an affordable, entry level sportscar, the 86 provides its users with an engaging and exciting driving experience- all while at the same time allowing new drivers to also learn how to "feel" the road, and further develop their driving mechanics.
Tumblr media
Sure, it's no Porsche, BMW or any other higher-end sports/luxury car, but that was never the point. The 86, at its core, has always been an underdog and a car for the people. What's more, the performance that one gets for its price, is unbeatable- being in a class of its own.
Tumblr media
Like it's grandfather, the advent of the latest 86 (now called the GR86) also seems to share a lot of similarities with the introduction of the AE86.
The debut of both vehicles, during their time and place in history, seems to cast a large shadow over the entire automotive industry, as each car, in context, looks to mark the final chapter of their own respective eras and be the last of their kind.
Tumblr media
During a time when rear-wheel drive cars were slowly falling out of style due to more cost-effective production of front-wheel drive cars, and in an age when the future of manual transmission, combustion engine cars altogether seem uncertain, both the AE86 and the GR86 serves to be a reminder of perhaps where our automotive ideals should lie, in stark contrast to where they currently are.
Tumblr media
Human beings in general are incredibly proficient in finding new ways to increase efficiency and productivity. With each passing year, we seem to find better ways to do more tasks with less work and less engagement. We find more ways to be practical and profitable that perhaps we have reached a point that we have optimized ourselves out of certain human experiences.
The 86 has always been out of step and unconventional- always felt a little bit out of its time. However, for many car enthusiasts, the 86 serves as a symbol: of a feeling and experience that the inevitable march of progress might never again be able to capture or return to. Not a bad legacy for a “boring old Corolla”.

My Idea of globalization
Tumblr media
What is globalization?
From my understanding globalization means that different countries and nations worldwide are trying to grow closer with each other by supporting each other, and how it works is by an active exchange of goods between countries and all the countries/ nations around the world are doing this, because it enables the countries that importing the products and the countries that take the imported goods to grow, they’re economy essentially like a help me help you situations. An example of this is Toyota importing their cars here in the Philippines, whenever we buy a car from Toyota it just doesn’t benefit our country by helping our economy grow but it also supports both Toyota and Japan because the more cars Toyota imports cars it enables Toyota to make more cars and also helps their home countries economy grow. But globalization isn’t only about products and economic goods but also services, knowledge, culture, and even languages.
How is culture involved in globalization?
Culture is involved in globalization because of cultural exchange, cultural exchange essentially allows the exchange of different cultural elements like food, music, fashion, art, language, and many more like traditions of different continents a few examples of this are of course Japanese food, OPM music and Chinese New Year which is a tradition in China Cultural exchange lets us explore and learn about the different traditions, food, and music of different continents in the globe.
How is Knowledge involved in globalization?
Knowledge is involved because it plays a crucial role in globalization by allowing innovation, enhancing global problem-solving, and allowing international collaboration, by allowing to exchange of knowledge across the globe it allows countries to share their expertise in different fields like technology and science and education as a whole and sharing these types of knowledge will benefit other countries that need the knowledge on how to face on major problems and how to solve them and it also gives other countries/ continents knowledge on how to grow their economy or how to sustain their economy.
Is Globalization Good?
Globalization can be both good and bad, On the positive side of globalization it promotes economic growth, innovation, cultural exchange, and international cooperation it leads nations to improve living standards and have access to global imported products/ goods but globalization also has a negative side and in the negative side it can sometimes result to inequality, cultural homogenization and negative changes in the environment like climate change and global warming due to the use of planes, ships, trucks for the use to transport imported goods are constantly increasing and because of that it causes more carbon dioxide to be released in the atmosphere so globalization can be both good and bad because globalization has its upsides and its downsides but it’s important to realize that globalization itself is neither good nor bad it depends on how people will deal with all the possibilities in the future.
My Personal Experience with Globalization
My personal experience of globalization is culture globalization where I visited Japan and learned about their culture and traditions, and when I visited Japan, I also learned about their two religion and those two religions Buddhist and Shintoist.
Conclusion In conclusion, Globalization is a way to connect every country from around the world and it’s done by doing either business importing goods to improve a country's economy, cultural exchange to learn and respect others' cultures and traditions, and sharing knowledge to create innovation and for countries to solve world problems or environmental challenges but always have the perspective that globalization will neither be good or bad because globalization will have some of its upside and downsides it just depend on how people will deal with possible challenges in the future. This is quite interesting, but since this does not refer to actual production, this is still something look later on.
The original source is here:
It is unlikely that China will retain its status as the solar leader, since maintenance costs will ensure most of this deployment will go defunct.
China's long-term domestic goal is still likely going to be nuclear. China's long term solar export trajectory seems to be for MENA, than rest of Africa, for obvious reasons, with hydrogen investments to compete with Japan (largely so Chinese car manufacturers can replace Toyota).
If China has high solar production, then we will need to watch for India next, which will take longer due to high population growth, and very low urbanisation. We will also watch China's wind capacity, since it is not as extensive as it should be.

Part of an article from a J's Tipo on homologation specials. This section specifically on the TA64 GrpB rally special. I had to go over the translation a few times but think pretty accurate now.
CELICA GT-TS
Run hard on the dirt with a twin cam turbo!
Celica was introduced in 1982 as Japan's first specialty car equipped with a twin-cam turbo engine.
The Celica 1800GT/T made its commercial debut. The installed engine, the 3T-GTE re-engine, is based on its model name.
As you can see, it is a power unit based on the 2T/G engine, which is highly regarded as a masterpiece of the 1.6L. Specifically, the total displacement was increased to 1770cc by extending the stroke by 8mm, and a turbocharger made in-house by Toyota was installed. As a result, the 1.8L class at that time
Unprecedented maximum output of 160PS/6000rpm、21.08kgm/4800rpm.
The bore of this high-performance engine has been enlarged by 0.5 mm, and the total displacement has been increased to 1791cc to create a special unit 4T-GTEU.
The limited production car equipped with 4T-GTEU engine is the Celica GT-TS (hereinafter referred to as GT-TS).
GT-TS is a special machine for WRC participation, and the engine installed on it, 4T-GTEU, is completely exhaustive.
Volume is 21cc more than 3T-GTEU
at 1791cc. This is because of the turbo coefficient due to regulation!
When multiplied by 1.4, the total displacement is 2507cc.
This is a measure to set it in the 2.5 to 3.0L class.
3T-GTEU・If you multiply it by 1.4, you get 2478cc, which becomes the next level lower class 2.0~2.50L Therefore, 0.
The total displacement was increased by enlarging the bore by 5mm. The result is 2507cc when multiplied by the turbo factor, and if physically possible, the displacement could be up to 3L in terms of regulation.
Expansion was allowed.
GT-TS was the WRC standard at the time.
This is a machine built to meet Group B regulations. As a result, only 200 units were produced, most of which were sold in Japan. GT-TS is just a base machine,
Displacement, rear suspension
(changed to 4 Link Rigid), and other than the vehicle weight, it is no different from GT-T.
Nothing will change.
PIC CAPTION
Unlike the 240RS, this one was also sold in Japan, so the seats are firm and the cockpit looks like a production car.
