I HAVE READ THAT FIC BEFORE. Its so good
((I came up with this concept before I found the fic, but I ABSOLUTELY adored it when I saw it. Gave me imposter syndrome but then inspired me to work way harder on some worldbuilding for Chiaki's side of the AU. So it's good for me. I'm not going to go AS in depth (I'm not as familiar with a lot of Japanese geography but I am doing SOME research) but it's made me work a little harder on the surroundings and background if that makes sense. I'm not one of those who make like tons and tons of worldbuilding (it distracts me from actually writing and I get overwhelmed) but it's good for me to go more in depth on the setting instead of focusing on the characters.))

Any theories on DTFA or ASooT?
I’m not gonna touch on ASOOT for reasons I already said so I’ll focus on DTFA. Under the cut as always since I never keep things short
Mod Poi has been rather coy what happens when the SDRA2 events occur and my working theory is when the characters die in the game they will appear in the Afterlife Theater but they won’t stay there, as they are in a limbo like state. This means the Voids and Kanade will experience bucket punishment and Utsuro dressing the Voids down but they won’t stay there as they will be revived and yanked back into the living world.
After all you had the Void Theater so I bet this means Mod Poi will use the Afterlife Theater in that way and Mikako will be able to get sweet revenge on her mother. But these guys will go back into the living world. So to answer the question of “Will the SDRA2 die or will they be revived like the DR2 ones the answer is both.
Also when the Voids come to steal the Neo World Program what I feel will happen is they will sneak in and steal the usb drive it’s on, but Nagi will catch them in the act, her Divine Luck aura will alert them to the fact she’s the one and they will go for the pitch for her to join them, naturally Nagi will tell them to get lost.
But they then proceed to try and kidnap her, rationalising when the Anons try to tell them off, that Future Foundation probably doesn’t know and if they did they would hand Nagi over to the Kisagari Foundation for execution especially as we know Rei send Fukumi to investigate her, so by doing so they are protecting her. In addition they need to know how to operate the Neo World Program and since Nagi did work on it, she has the knowledge. Hajime Hinata will see them and try to stop them but while he will hold his own, eventually Hajime will fall to the Voids.
So how does Nagi escape? Akane, as Akane decides to step in to protect Nagi by revealing the presence of her body to the Voids on the condition they let Nagi go. Since we know Akane can telepathically speak with any Divine Luck user she can do this and heavily criticise them in the process. Void releases Nagi who is very shaken and she goes to check on Hajime Hinata who while injured will live. But Void do steal the program in the end.
As for who takes over Future Foundation, I think Kyousuke will take over as he’s the most logical choice and since his hate boner for Ultimate Despair is dialling down, he won’t become a dictator like Tsurugi is. Who btw I do think Fukumi will discover Nagi is alive and aware of her Divine Luck but she might come across the scene with Nagi vs. The Voids and the information revealed will leave her very conflicted which she relays to Rei who decides to keep it hidden from Tsurugi as she re-evaluates the Kisagari Foundation’s status that Divine Luck users are evil. No Manwha moments here.
Finally, when Monaca is caught I don’t want her to be reformed because yes she’s a kid but unlike the other Warriors of Hope who are realising the error of their ways, Monaca is very unrelenting on that but when she gets captured a DNA sample from her will taken. Why? You know why…
So yeah those are my current DTFA theories. Probably think of some more down the line.

Remnant Matsuda because despite having an idea for today's prompt, I drew this fucker instead
More hc because I fw Remnant Matsuda:
•his face is completely mutilated due to Junko's boots, now wears a mask to hide it (only Junko is allowed to see beneath it)
•Stirs people's brains like lattes for fun. If they're gonna pull that bullshit for Chisa, I want Matsuda (the guy whose research was STOLEN to do that) to brainwash people too
•EXTREMELY codependent on Junko, doesn't believe he can survive without her (feels guilty for his attempted murder, also feels guilty he wasn't able to finish it)
•The first Remnant, arguably one even back when they were still kids
•Closest to Izuru outside of the twins. Checks in on him ever now and then
•Pushed Servant down the stairs because he was being a passive aggressive asshat (Only time Mikan was grateful for his presence)
•WOH fucking LOVE him for no apparent reason. He's that one guy that doesn't care about kids but they LOVE him and flock to him the second he's within sight
•Cried for the first time since his mother's death when Junko executed herself. Blamed himself for not being able to save her.
•Was the first Remnant at her body. Took the remnants of her brain before heading for Towa City
•Didn't realize that kurokuma was Ai Junko until it said and inside joke. Was unable to get anything out of it due to Monaca almost dying and Izuru stealing the Ai
•Agreed to go into the NWP because he was told he could save some Remnant of Junko and get her back
•AI Ryoko to pacify him Chiaki style (he does not know who Chiaki is)
Stopping here because its starting to go into sdr2 territory

It bothers me way more than it should that a lot of this fandom seems to completely neglect Byakuya's progression as a character. It's like they see DR1 Byakuya as the only version of Byakuya.
Current Byakuya is still overconfident and critical, but current Byakuya also: genuinely cares about the well-being of his fellow survivors (even Toko despite his disgust for her), accepts and leads a mission to go save Komaru and the rest of the hostages in UDG, expresses a great deal of respect, trust, and caring towards Makoto and praises his positive, hopeful influence, considers the well-being of those he doesn't even know (including the hostages, those trapped at Towa City, and the Class 77b remnants of despair), and uses his position of power for good.
Current Byakuya deserves more recognition, dammit! And I am more than willing to die on that hill.

"their actual dynamic is very interesting and actually pretty similar to regular Komahina"
What do you mean by that?
It means exactly what it looks like.
There are many timelines and scenarios in which Hinata and Komaeda stick together as remnants that would fit their characters and would honestly make more sense than them being apart or barely interacting.
Anyway, first, you have to look at their actual characters and what they're like. They're both observers, in a way. As remnants, neither of them truly caused that much harm, and they both most likely just found themselves in the wrong places at the wrong times.
Komaeda was definitely docile, unlike the other remnants, and he wouldn't kill or harm anybody unless he really needed to. Any real damage would be done by his luck or indirectly brought by him pulling the strings for something. Acting otherwise would be against his character, anyway, since everything he does is for a reason.
Kamukura was in a similar boat, living during the tragedy as nothing more than an observer. He wouldn't harm or kill anybody unless it was necessary, either, and most likely avoided pointless things like that to carry out what he was meant to do and survive since the world wasn't safe for anybody.
Anyway, as servant, Komaeda would rather stay alive than die, which was definitely why he searched safety in Towa City in the first place. If you take a good look at his character, he yearns for self-sacrifice, not out of desire to die, but rather to die a death that means something. As a whole, Komaeda constantly talks about death in a really important way (people say that he talks about it like it's nothing, but that's simply not true), because he, himself, can not avoid death. As many of us know, Komaeda is sick. His life was always going to end sooner than it should ever have since he enrolled in the academy.
Realistically speaking, dying from a disease is a meaningless death:
1. His death will be for nothing; a hopeless outcome, holding nothing but grief and suffering.
2. He will die alone because he has nobody. No family, friends, you get it.
That is a scenario he would rather avoid, which is why he was okay with dying by getting murdered and honestly, much preferred. In the stimulation, he started the killing game because at least ONE person getting to leave would be better than all of them being stuck there, which was hopeless because if we're being honest, one is better than zero. In that scenario, if he was murdered, his death would not only mean something and serve hope—at least one person getting to leave—but he wouldn't be alone in his last moments because he would work with the killer and get murdered by them. Another is chapter 4, when everybody suggested they would rather starve than kill, he was uncomfortable with that fact because at least one of them living would be better. If you approached him for a free time, he even suggested that they could cannibalise him if they needed to, because again, logically, the good his death would bring severely outweighs the fact he'd die, and his death would serve something good (they wouldn't starve to death).
During the tragedy, there was no way he could die without it being meaningless, and despite being brainwashed and his beliefs getting messed up by despair, they are still rooting very deep and he would rather stay alive because his death, just like everybody else's, would be for nothing, but to simply die. Horrible scenario. Also, I believe that in UDG, he hasn't mentioned self-sacrifice once (correct me if I'm wrong).
I believe that this is a case in which he would talk about talent, despair, and hope often. He wouldn't mention it in every sentence, but any conversation COULD turn into that with a wrong turn. Komaeda only talks about them when he's stressed or nervous, and the more disturbed he feels, the more he talks about them. The tragedy was a very traumatic time, and he would undoubtedly spiral into this kind of talk often. In fact, I think nobody would be able to tell that he was a remnant until he started speaking or he was recognised by somebody, because he was really disturbed at the time, and Komaeda is unfiltered and he would voice what goes through his mind. He would most likely speak non-sense a lot, too, often contradicting himself or saying things he would never say, and he would lack self-awareness unless somebody pointed out that he was incoherent and he got confused and began questioning his own words (good example for that is actually chapter 0 of Sdr2, when he talks to Kamukura on the ship)
Kamukura, or rather Hinata, was a wanderer and observer who didn't do anything during the tragedy except for when Junko Enoshima was using him for her plans. Cursed with frustrating understimulation and lack of interest and entertainment in things around him, he allowed himself to be manipulated to get out of an empty room that was basically a cell for him, to feel something. Even if he knew he was being manipulated, he would be used one way or another, if not by her, then by the school or someone entirelt else, and Enoshima's offer seemed much better, at least at the time.
People constantly portray Hinata during those times as emotionless, but he has emotions. They're just severely stunted, and any time he feels something, it passes very fast because he already knows what to expect and can predict almost everything.
I'm too lazy to dig deeper into their characters AGAIN because it should be obvious at this point, but all I'm saying is if you look into them, it'll make sense. These are just small summaries to kinda give you an idea I suppose
Moving on, when it comes to them together, people always give them a bedroom dynamic, and it really annoys me. In reality, they're more likely to simply travel together because it would benefit both of them and give them a better chance at survival or reaching their goals, whatever they would be. They would still feel a draw and trust, and that's because they're connected as characters in general, and one could not exist without the other, so they could never avoid each other, not even then.
Their traits are also very similar. For example, both of them are blunt and docile, and both of them serve a purpose only when it comes to other people. They have other very interesting traits, too, such as that Komaeda would be overly expressive and emotional. Meanwhile, Kamukura would be the complete opposite. Both of them are pretty stubborn, etc.
I think they would find each other's company pleasant, and they wouldn't mind staying together since they wouldn't be bothersome to each other at all. I think there are many cases where Kamukura would keep him safe, too, for many reasons.
Anyway... Hinata and Komaeda are still two sides of the same coin, and they wouldn't be able to stay away from each other, despair or no despair. That part of their dynamic will always remain. When I say that it's pretty similar to regular Komahina, I mean exactly that.
Their dynamic is interesting because their original characters kind of get thrown out, I guess, and they're forced into an environment where they can not act like they usually would because the world doomed them, yet they still mirror each other and have these weirds things linking them and stand out from the rest.
It's honestly more surprising that they were separated in the canon timeline or that they didn't meet before the Kamukura thing, rather than if they were together during the tragedy. I feel like they got seriously lazy writing the anime and UDG

i'm always thinking about the Minor Mysteries of the Hope's Peak DR world, like
is there any particular Interesting Story behind Peko's parents, or were they just normies?
where the hell are everyone's Parents, actually?? are they ALL dead?
relatedly, did the Naegi siblings ever find their mom and dad???
did Hina ever find the truth about Yuta? who broke it to her?
how did Junko wipe everyone's Minds? (i know it's implied she used Matsuda tech, but how?)
is Junko Enoshima her real name? if not, is Ryoko Otonashi her actual name as implied in Zero?
is Mukuro Ikusaba her real name? (if Junko's is Ryoko Otonashi, then Mukuro is...?)
what happened to the Warriors of Hope? (we deserved a real ending for them in the main timeline)
what were the Horrible Things that Sayaka had to do to reach her dream? (everyone i know thinks something Very Awful and Sexual, but i maintain she did something subtle and violent instead)
did Chihiro's dad make it out of Towa City? (this feels like a plotline the writers meant to do something with Later but never did)
are the Executions canon, or a stylized version of their actual deaths?
if the former, how on earth did the Remnants get any Junko body parts?
what was the deal with AI Junko? when was she made and why, and was Junko even Aware?
did Sakura and Peko ever cross paths before Hope's Peak? (they canonically went to the Same School)
wouldn't Peko have had a hard time protecting Fuyuhiko if she went to a different HS than him (which she canonically did before HPA)?
(i'm sure some of these were answered in DR3, but i haven't seen it yet)

Out of curiosity, what are the other remnants of despair like in your universe?
Oh, uh. Hmm...good question. I don't....really socialize with most of them these days for reasons, but uh...
Sonia's in Novaselic committing global domination and colonialism. She's one of the Big Three. The remnants who hoard power over the entire globe, minus Junko herself. Gundam's usually with her, or at least aligned with her. Last I heard he was in the Americas stampeding and ruining their cities. They don't really need the help tbh after the cults took over.
Imposter's in the states too, they're considered one of the other Big Three, they're impersonating some important governmental figure, though I'm not sure who. They're a big reason why the cults got out of hand and run a huge faction in that area, at least that's what I last heard. I dunno the state of that location so they might've moved on.
Fuyuhiko's got most of southeast asia, pretty much this whole place is his Territory, though Towa's a provence under it's own power. That's part of the deal Towa made with the Remnants after all. He also doesn't have much control over where sections like the Future Foundation and other such corperations have settled. FF's got it's tendrils riddling all throughout everyone's territories, so far they've set up a kind of hit and run strategy of coming to a place, outfitting people with supplies and weapons and then dipping, when they aren't trying to go into all out mini wars with one of us. They've mostly been Fuyuhiko's headache since the lions share of their force is in Japan, though Sonia and Imposter have to deal with their own headaches, especially Imposter. The next Hope's Peak building was meant to be in the states but now that means Munataka's got connections over there. I hear there's an underground rebellion in New York or something.
Next is the smaller forces, most of us are still in Japan physically but the influence can still reach global. Mahiru's got a radio station, it's surprisingly practical past the propaganda, gives you updates on what we're doing or any public plans and about famous killers-there's like a top ten serial killer hitlist it's...uh. Graphic. Ibuki and Hyoko are doing their concerts, which end in death or brainwashing or spreading more propaganda. Oh, Peko's still with Fuyuhiko, though I hear she might branch out now and again. She's a trained hitman so personally I am......not eager to look too deeply into her exploits.
Akane is........I honestly don't know where she is. She spent some time with Nekomaru's training area-he runs a training area, but it's extremely dangerous and unhealthy. Steroids, extremely dangerous diets and workout routines, he's got a whole subset of cult members who're like, super beefed up and probably ready to burst a blood vessal at any moment. It's.......It's honestly horrifying. Anyway, Akane spent a while with him and then she came out extremely weak and malnourished and yet somehow still a terrifying powerhouse. She wanders around leveling buildings for fun, I think. I think it's for fun. It's...um....it's like getting hit with a natural disaster honestly.
And Teru-ah....Teruteru's in the party business. And by party I mean sex party. And by sex party I mean you get a full course meal that makes you high and then you end up either dying in very horrificly gruesome ways or you end up going crazy and tear each other apart. um. Sometimes in even more disturbing ways than I just described. Don't go to his parties.
OH I almost forgot Souda. Probably because he doesn't actually do much himself, but he's got his machines set up everywhere and if you try to tamper with any of them you're probably going to set off a trap. That's all he does though, his machines are awful, the entire reason the sky's scorched is because of him, but beyond his machines he's actually harmless. All he wants is to bury his head in a project, it's kinda...kinda sad.
I think that's everyone....?

In the class 78 remnants au, Hope’s peak doesn’t blow up because of the remnants or the reserve course, it gets destroyed when Fuyuhiko and/or Peko rip it to pieces looking for Natsumi.
Also, is Sato still alive in this, since she didn’t get a chance to kill Natsumi?
Lol yeah those two would not be pleased about Natsumi going missing to be part of the Kamakura program. For plot reasons they probably need to not know the school was responsible lol, so maybe the assumption is a rival Yakuza clan took her to intimidate or black mail the Kuzuryu’s.
And yeah I guess Sato would still be alive since all the Twilight Syndrom stuff isn’t happening, it could be kinda cool if she was the person taken captive to be the hostage for Mahiru like how all the thh kiddos had someone important taken for one of the motives and kept in Towa city.
For that matter, Ultra Despair Girls Sato protag👀👀

waitt i wanna ehar abt the long fics omg... i wanna listen.. rolls onto the grass
HI thank you so much for asking!! i wanted to talk about these so bad but like... couldn't bring myself to without someone asking first fdhkjdf
i have two main long fics i'm hoping to write for komahina!! the first one is just called "sad boy summer" as a placeholder name dfkhjdf
i really enjoy using a season (especially summer) as a framing device for emotions and character arcs. the idea of a cold relationship at the beginning of the spring (with komaeda waking up maybe at the end of may), then their relationship growing in warmth and strength as the summer also grows in heat. and them struggling to hold onto precious memories at the end of the summer, not wanting it to end, and not knowing where their relationship will end up. a warm september stretching on past when summer should end, and them wondering when the last halcyon day will fade away and winter will arrive.
this would be more just a collection of oneshots, connected by time moving along over the summer with no other overarching plot. the boys just... enjoying time together and playing outside and doing fun summer things that they never got to do as teenagers. my idea is that Komaeda becomes a lot healthier than he has been ever since he was a child during that summer. the boys work out their issues and build a strong (homoerotic) friendship, but we have a lot of melancholy moments too. Both because of the fear of the summer (and their friendship) ending, and also because they're both experiencing a happiness they haven't for years.
Once this fic is done, this would lead into the longfic that is more plot-heavy (placeholder title: "to carry you"). I have a lot more concrete ideas for this one, but i can't just start writing an established relationship fdhkdf I have to develop it with the sad boy summer first. anyway, at the beginning of this fic, komaeda and hinata are in a weird situationship/close friendship, where maybe they've kissed once or twice and sleep over regularly, but you couldn't call them partners or a couple.
in this fic, komaeda's good spell of health has gotten worse. his cancer is out of remission, and his dementia has developed past the worst point it has ever been before, to the point where he's having issues with memory and orientation to place and time. he's really good at hiding it though and hinata hasn't realized the full extent of it. komaeda is still looking for a reason to live, or rather, a good and meaningful way to die, since his death is imminent with his sicknesses progressing.
future foundation is in contact with toko and komaru in towa city, who have heard rumours of some kind of miracle cure created by the towa group that can cure a lot of diseases. neither of them are aware of many details, and since they're still hiding what happened between the kids and adults in DR:AE, they can't reveal many details. they're not sure if this cure exists, or if it's just a rumour. future foundation tells hinata about it, as they're trying to find ways to put the remnants to work. komaeda gets excited about this, because he's a prime test subject for this miracle cure. if he lives, he brings hope to others afflicted with his conditions, and if he dies, he died in the name of bringing hope. he convinces hinata to let him travel with him to towa city to look for the cure. if hinata knew how sick komaeda was, he wouldn't let him go, but he's "tricked" into thinking komaeda is okay enough to make the trip.
komaeda is also curious about how the WOH are doing. he had genuine care for them despite being despairpilled at the time and he wishes the best for them, but he thinks that he's not the right person to help them.
(a bunch of komahina travelling stuff in the middle that i need to develop dfkhjdffd)
komaeda's bad luck strikes as he and hinata are travelling through some ruined war-torn areas. the ground collapses and he falls a far way, and he and hinata are separated.
hinata tries desperately to look for him and encounters haiji towa. since toko and komaru couldn't reveal much about what happened in DR:AE he doesn't know how evil haiji is, just believing that he's the ruler of the city, and asks him if he knows where komaeda could be. Haiji doesn't want komaeda or anyone related to him anywhere in the city (i forget if they met at all in AE, but he might've found out from monaca, see later in this explanation fdkhjdffd) and steers hinata on a dangerous path.
komaeda meanwhile had bad luck, getting injured in his fall, but also had good (?) luck, falling right into the place where most of the WOH (except monaca) have been hiding. long story short, he realizes that he's the only adult at this time who has any understanding of them and their needs and fears. even though he feels like he's not the hypothetical best person to help them, he is the only Existing person who can. he previously hadn't really cared if he lived or died through the Miracle Cure Experiment, but now he has a strong reason to hope that the cure will work. he's in very rough shape now, having been hurt in the fall, along with his cancer and dementia wreaking havoc on him.
hinata finds him and is horrified at his condition. he really wants to take him back to the island and just take care of him, but komaeda knows that he needs to hold onto this last hope. if they just go back to the island, he'll have a peaceful death, but won't be there for those who need him.
i still need to work out the ending and whether it's a tragedy or not (hmm) but monaca is in trouble, having been separated from Servant after she was hurt in UDG and servant rescued her. he was captured and put in the NWP, but she was left in towa city and captured by haiji without servant to help her. I think she's involved against her will in the miracle cure experiment somehow (human experimentation?)
i'm so sorry this is so long dfhkjfdfd basically... i want this to be a story about having no reason to live, but slowly finding one and realizing that people love you and need you. i didn't really describe everything that well here, but i hope i can make it better in the actual story hehe. the first story does the heavy work of developing komahina into a close relationship (although not fully romantic) and the next story is meant to take it to another level and also focus on a lot of dadmaeda feels
thank you so much for giving me an opportunity to ramble, and feel free to ask any more questions if anything didn't make sense or if you want more details for anything!!

Towa City—the most fucked-up city in this new fucked-up world.
So why, exactly, are you—a former investigator before everything went to shit—finding yourself heading into this fucked-up city? Easy. You’re chasing a phantom.
Not a literal phantom, of course; you’re tracking an individual who’s popped into and out of your radar for months now, showing up without fail at the preferred locations of every Remnant of Despair. You have a couple of buddies in what remains of the civilian-formed safety corps, and they had the misfortune of running into this phantom while on patrol once.
Their number of squadron members was cut in half that day, and the bastard apparently never lifted more than a finger.
You’re intrigued, of course, but you want to make sure this odd man never causes any more disasters.
And so, you’ve found your way to the newest circle of hell: Towa City.
Based on reports, the bridges connecting it to the mainland have since been destroyed, but that doesn’t stop you from commandeering one of the small motorboats remaining at the docks. Ripples in the water nearby alert you to the fact that your target had the same train of thought. You quickly check your supplies before absolutely hauling ass across the water.
As you approach, you’re greeted by a surprising lack of robotic killing machines. They had been the staple danger of Towa City, and you’d prepared several countermeasures against those beasts, but there’s nothing; not even so much as a single ball-sized bot. It doesn’t sit right with you.
(You don’t notice the long-haired man staring down at you from the bridge’s remaining supports, taking in your confusion.)
Nevertheless, you continue on your way, handgun at the ready just in case. As per your training, you follow every turned stone, every shifted pile of dirt, and every open door to track your target. You can’t help but feel pride at your skill and luck to make it this far, to get so close to this strange person.
(He’s moving too fast ahead of you for you to see him laying out the path.)
You climb flight after flight in this one building, all stones gone, all dirt replaced with concrete. The only thing that guides you now is the echoing footsteps above you, growing ever so steadily fainter.
(He takes care to make noisy steps for a change.)
The sound of a door alerts you to the phantom’s exit. Tenth floor—a penthouse suite, you think. You pursue, ready for another chase… or maybe a fight. After all, no one really knows anything about this person; you could be dealing with the former Ultimate Taekwondo Master for all you know.
(You are. Among other things.)
You’re surprised to see your target standing perfectly still within the living area, back to you as they look out of the window toward the skyline. There’s no indication of hearing your entrance, and it unsettles you once more. Now significantly closer, you can reasonably identify them as male, or at least male-presenting. His long black hair drapes over his back and partially obscures his pristine suit from your view, and it’s almost annoyingly perfect and smooth. He stands tall, posture simultaneously relaxed and proper in an effortless manner.
He’s a bit of a vision, you catch yourself thinking.
Focus.
Deciding not to look a gift horse in the mouth, you take careful steps forward. One hand holds your gun, which is loaded in case of the worst, and the other delicately pulls your singular remaining pair of handcuffs from your belt.
Thirty feet from him. Twenty. Ten. He makes no move to run, no move at all, so you hesitantly holster the gun so you can have both hands at your disposal.
Just as you step within reach, he turns, and you manage to block a knifehand strike with your forearms. It catches you by surprise, but what combat training remains in your head took action just in time to save your ass from being knocked unconscious.
You have only that brief moment to take in his face—chiseled, neutral, objectively handsome. Intense red eyes stare you down, but they’re not angry. They’re not anything.
His head tilts, and after a beat, he opens his mouth to say something.
He doesn’t get the chance.
You manage to grab hold of the hand he’d used to attack you, and one side of the handcuffs is shoved on.
Click.
That’s when he moves, tugging the caught wrist back and attempting to shove you back by the chest, but you’ve got a vice grip on the other cuff.
“Come on,” you growl, keeping still the hand you just caught as you fumble to grab and get the other under control. “Don’t make me use my fucking taser—”
Click.
“AHA! Oh…” You move back just a hair, staring in disbelief at your target’s wrist… and yours.
In the confusion, you’d gotten it half-correct. You’d handcuffed him, all right. Just… to yourself.
Well, shit.
“This is awkward.”
He stares, thoroughly unimpressed. But he makes no move to escape.
“What, can’t you just get out of it?”
Red eyes blink back at you.
“…Thanks for the input.” You sigh. “Dammit, why couldn’t this have just gone the way I’d planned? Fine, let’s just… save both of our prides. I’ve got the key.”
Using your free hand—the right one—you reach into your small utility bag attached to your belt and grab the single steel key from within. Even as you hold it up to show him, your target continues to just stare. It’s unnerving, but at least he isn’t trying to kill you. That’s a first, and a welcome one at that.
However, despite your training and ability to lock and unlock handcuffs blindfolded, the edge of the key catches on a ridge it shouldn’t, and the dumb thing slides out of your hand and onto the floor. You ignore the burning in your cheeks and squat to retrieve it.
Just as you reach for the key, he swiftly kicks it with the toe of his shoe, sending it flying an impressive distance across the floor and under the penthouse’s oven.
You stare in disbelief at where it disappeared. Then you look up at him.
How the fuck is he able to look so smug while still remaining expressionless?
“The hell is your deal?” You push yourself up and waggle your cuffed wrists in front of him. “Unless you know how to get out of handcuffs without a key—which I don’t—then we’re stuck. Is that what you want?”
Blink.
“Or you could just not talk to me. That works.”
God, you wish you still had a team.
“You’re a detective,” he finally says, tone as flat as his expression. “You don’t appear to be related by blood to the Kirigiri line, and the lack of a ring on your hand implies that you are not married.”
The analysis throws you for a loop momentarily as you process it. “The Kirigiris? I mean, I know of them, but no, we’re not related. I’m just a private investigator from Tokyo. I came here to—”
“To track and apprehend me,” your target finishes, “someone you could not figure out. Someone who remained just out of reach. Now you have time to do so, and I will be able to do the same.”
“You make it sound like you planned this.”
He doesn’t refute it.
The sound of approaching vehicle engines alerts you to the presence of someone else outside. It’s faint, given your height at the tenth floor, but you’re still able to classify them as military-grade. Probably those Future Foundation people. You wonder what they’re doing in this city.
…You wonder if they can get you out of the cuffs.
Your target narrows his eyes at you, as if reading your thoughts. “That would be a terrible idea.”
“Good thing I didn’t ask for your opinion.”
“If you surrender to the Future Foundation, it is quite likely that they will consider you an accomplice of mine.”
“Oh please, I’m a licensed detective, they have no reason to distrust me—” Now it’s your turn to blink at him. “Wait, did you say accomplice of yours? Who does that make you, then?”
For once, he hesitates, appearing to mull something over in that strange head of his. Then, he finally says, “I am called Izuru Kamukura, and I am considered to be a part of the Ultimate Despair, who are now the Remnants of Despair with the death of Junko Enoshima.”
It processes for a moment, then you huff a half-laugh. “A lot of uncertainty there.”
“They are facts.”
“Right, right. So the Future Foundation…?”
“Wishes to kill me.”
“Gotcha. And me showing up, handcuffed to you—”
“Would likely end in your own death, or at least imprisonment with suspicion of cooperation with a terrorist.”
“Son of a bitch.” You glare at Kamukura, gesturing vaguely toward the stove. “Then why make me lose the key? Are you just that sadistic?”
That smug little twinkle in his eye comes back. “No. I knew it would be interesting, being locked to the person who’s been following me for two months.” He leans forward into your personal space, dark hair falling to curtain the both of you. “Checkmate, detective.”
Heat rushes over your face once more.
Guess you have no choice but to follow his lead.
‘Interesting,’ without a doubt.

Time to be (supposedly) Alive
Towa City. My old home. The place where I lost everything, myself, and carried so much on my back. A thirteen year old girl with a cat managed to save thousands only to be harmed by some. It combinated into an attempt to end my life.
I survived. At times I wish I didn't. I have so much trauma. I don't remember all of it. My body does remember. The day I was taken away for immediate treatment never fails to mix my feelings. Adults and awake children hailed me as a savior. A beacon of hope. For me I was in despair as I couldn't take the pain I went through anymore. I didn't want to be like Junko, the Warrior of hope, and the Remnants of Despair! I knew I couldn't let despair win in the long term.
It's been awhile. I'm going to Hopes Peak Academy for a while now. I've been slowly moving forward. My schedule dedicated to having classes in the mornings till noon then I have several appointments at Hope Mercy. Most of the appointments are learning to use my prosthetic legs. The last few are counseling with a graduate from the school who works at the hospital. They're nice.
Today, I've been thinking about the past. It's just numb for me. My mom, dad, older brother and Lilith died in that city. My clinic died there to.
I've came to realize that, I still want to live in Towa City once it's rebuilt and start a new. I've had plans for a large animal hospital and animal shelter built in one another for a while now. The issue is that I want to have a family who cares about me. Adoption doesn't seem promising for me as my problems are heavy, not to mention complex. Sure I could live alone but, it doesn't feel right to me.
I also have to consider my protection. The C.O.R.E and Future Foundation have been keeping the media and other things away from me. They'd even have some action on what I can do in helping them. It all sucks.
Soon, I'm going to be fourteen years old. I don't know what to feel at this point. I'm upset as it marks I've made it through the unfeasible then sad as I don't have a family of my own to think about.
At least I have Scout and Spike. Spike is now a therapy bot! That makes me happy a little bit.
Tenshi shut her journal. Fourteen years old and has nothing. It was tuff to handle.
She slumped her head over her chair, "two days till fourteen. Fuck this hell called life."
It's been a while since she's been staying in the school dorms. She decided I'd be best to stay on campus other than be with one of the survivors. She didn't want to burden anyone at the moment.
Tenshi looked at the clock, "damn. I haven't slept in three nights. Fucking insomnia."
~
Tenshi tossed a ball into the air. Spike went off to catch it. Other pets where running around the park in the sun.
"Damn. What am I supposed to do?" Tenshi muttered.

Can you tell us what both Jabberwock City & Towa Island are like in Demix? I saw what you did with Adamu & Sayako's last names, so I couldn't help but wonder.
Jagbberwock City/Mountain is a remote habitation nestled in one of the lowest mountains in a fictitious mountain range in Hokkaido. It is meant to mirror something that I have yet to formally announce, which is that the settings for each game are also radically different and flipped.
The setting of DEMIX 2 is Towa Research Base, a mysterious mountain base nestled somewhere in a plateau in Hokkaido, originally used for astronomical research funded by the prestigious Towa Family, which in this timeline are like roaches that suck up to Kiyotaka and his goons just enough that they're allowed to keep their wealth post-despair. Towa research base is imagined as a central plateau flanked by 4 distinct and unique mountains, connected by suspended carts and zip-lines.
Jabberwock City/Mountain is the setting for DR: Interregnum (the despair girls equivalent) and it's more or less a mountain town that was reinforced by its denizens and government remnants during the despair. In the time of Interregnum, it is one of the very last holdouts of freedom in the entire Japanese island chain. Adamu and Sayako share their surname with the mayor of the city, and their ancestor who founded the city and named it after themself.

In your post you had this question: "How did they manage to track them down, and bring them to Jabberwock Island without dying or being discovered by the Future Foundation?"
Information in DR2 actually help answer this question.
This first image is an email talking about FF being aware of 15 people that are survivors of Hope's Peak (aka Class 77-B) and one of those survivors contacted FF about this.
Tumblr media
This second image is another email at a future time from the previous email. In this one, FF has found the 15 survivors of Hope's Peak and brought them to headquarters. They had no idea these survivors are the Remnants of Despair they have been looking for.
Tumblr media
FF gave the reasonability of watching Class 77-B to the ones who survived the Killing Game from DR1. (Timeline wise, this event happened after UDG so Toko/Syo were not present at HQ to see the Remnants)
This last email, which was directed to Makoto, strongly suggests that Makoto, Kyoko and Byakuya have already covertly left FF with Class 77-B to Jabberwock Island and that FF realized that the 15 group of people they thought were survivors of Hope's Peak were really the Remnants of Despair they have been looking for.
Tumblr media
With all the information presented, here is my theory as to what happened.
After UDG, when Izura got the Junko Ai components from Shirokuma and Kurokuma in Towa city, he sent a tip to FF about him and Class 77-B all being survivors of Hope's Peak. That way, FF would find and pick them all up without suspecting they are the Remnants. The reason why Izura wants him and everyone captured is becuase he knows the existence of the NWP, knows what the Junko ai has planned and is complying to her and he knows that Makoto would be the one to secretly bring him and Class 77-B to Jabberwock Island to use the program on them. (He has the power of the ultimate clairvoyance to know all of this)
He convinced all the other Remnants to follow with the facade of being helpless survivors to FF and it's very likely he made is so everyone would comply in sneaking out of HQ with Makoto and ride a boat to Jabberwock Island. That's how the whole traveling to Jabberwock island thing went off without any issues. the Remnants cooperated with being rehabilitated by Makoto with the use of the NWP. Of course, Izura hid the fact that he had a USB of the Junko ai that he would infect the program with.
I like this theory a lot and it makes sense character and lore wise but it is, admittedly not as interesting as the other theories people have about how the Remnants were captured. People come up with FF going out on missions to find, fight and subdue the Remnants one by one until they are all captured. The intro to Future Arc shows the Remnants and FF in one such epic fight.
Your theory definitely lines up with canon information (especially the emails, I can never remember what's in them lol) , but the reason I asked that, is because it calls into question the competency of the Future Foundation.
During the Tragedy, a big concern for everyone would be the Remnants. They, with the exception of Izuru, would be the most well-known faces out there. The only reason Izuru is exempt is because he isn't the type to be out actively causing chaos, preferring to observe. It's a wonder they have a picture of him at all.
After Izuru calls an anonymous tip into Future Foundation to come get him and the Remnants, whoever picked them up would be at fault for noticing who they were. Many of them have very distinct looks, so to not recognize them no matter the disguise, makes the Future Foundation look a bit silly.
There would also be a very large chance that Makoto wasn't the one who went to pick them up, at least not alone. It's a large gamble, and even if Nagito's and Izuru's ultimate luck helped them, it still wouldn't be enough.
That also rides on the idea that the Remnants somehow agreed to Izuru's plan.
I don't know, I think a lot of the in-game information about the Remnants is contradicted in the anime. But, using canon information, your theory is absolutely amazing! Much love.
