Tourism and Rural Development: A Policy Perspective.
Tourism has high potential to stimulate economic growth and social change in rural areas because it contributes to local economies, support other products value chains, distributes benefits across both seasonal and geographic grounds, and promotes the conservation of cultural and natural heritage. Through the UNWTO Tourism for Rural Development Programme, the Organization seeks to enhance these and other opportunities that tourism can bring to rural areas. To devise adequate actions and develop impactful initiatives, it is essential to have solid knowledge and data to help support and monitor the evolution of this important agenda.

From a peak of around 240 towers in the mid 1960s, today only 45 Cooling Towers from Britain's great post-war power stations remain. These silent sculptural giants are the Stonehenge or Avebury of the mid twentieth century, yet they exist on borrowed time.

I fuckin love trains but ya like anything can be a tool for bad.
While the UK had trains everywhere as a good thing to allow people to go places easily, the railways which the British Empire trains in many places specifically for resource extraction:
Note: the website linked is pro/neutral on empire, but they haven't hidden facts such as on resource extraction, they just say it's not a bad thing for europe to extract minerals from africa.
And in the first half hour or so of this video they go into the problems around a current railway being built in Mexico:
youtube
this might be swinging a bat at a hornets nest but
i can understand why ppl on the autism website like trains so much but its so annoying when ppl try to portray them as somehow "leftist". it seems like ppl forgot the history. forgot that in many places the rails were built by slave/prison labor. that the railroads used to be some of if not the biggest landowners in the US thru eminent domain, and that this was used to sell off indigenous land to settlers, and to divide and destroy black neighborhoods (this is why we have the phrase "wrong side of the tracks"). that railroads were a tool of colonization to more quickly move around labor and extract resources from the lands they occupied and whisk them away to the core of the empire.
yall cant let the narrative of "progress" poison u like that.
#all infrastructure needs to be built properly#with consulting the population near the railway#and also to increase the transport for the population safely#rather than doing it as tourism or resource extraction#Youtube
