Not 2 be a hater on here but can we please start discerning between Prot angst and that old Tumblr catchall of Catholic Guilt.....Eugene Sledge does not have Catholic guilt that boy has never done the sign of the cross in his life. He thinks communion is symbolic. He believes the Bible has 66 books. Come on now if faith is a source of contention for him it's because he's worried about whether the church elders are going to split over installing a water fountain in the fellowship hall or the scripture selection being used for VBS....if he's a hardline Calvinist maybe he's scared of damnation. Maybe a little bit. If he's feeling particularly mentally ill at a given moment. Probably he's already sure he's either part of the elect or (if he's feeling progressive) he's in the One True Church. But boy he certainly doesn't know what charism means and he never will
#eugene sledge YOU. are a southern baptist#tbf i dont think tom hanks really knows what the difference is either since he has leckie complaining about predestination.....oh well#we need more boring af mainline prots getting peeved over someone else's pimento cheese recipe at the church potluck#the gothic drama of transubstantiation and confession and catholic hierarchy is sooooooo overplayed#joke kinda but also not really do you know how many normal catholics are out there with jobs and lives and stuff. its crazy#eugene roe etc. charming little st francis prayer and you're good to go!!#the pacific#hbo war#eugene sledge#personal

*voice of boy who just experienced romantic/sexual attraction for the first time* did you guys see that. that was insane. wdym you live like this
#um?????#i've had “crushes” before but that was just guessing#it wasn't until *checks calendar* two days ago that i discovered what y'all are talking about#that was legit insane#also very proud of my initiative. underneath it all i'm quite bold. got his number (re: asked him if he wanted my number which is much more#fun. also he later told me that it made him blush which is cute) and he danced with me.#and it was such a vibe???#like. i've been flirted with before#specifically a guy asked to dance with me (we were at a dance) and like. i did but it was really not it. i'm very enthusiastic when dancing#and there to have as much fun as i can and he was doing that awkward shuffle step thing and i could tell he wasn't really into dancing and#it felt he was bringing me down. dampening the vibe.#but with this guy we were vibing like crazy. he liked dancing! there was energy! he twirled me! it was insane you guys#also he has the cutest little southern accent#i didn't notice at first but my friend pointed it out to me and y'all it's adorable#got his spotify and we like a lot of the same music too#unfortunately he lives 2-3 states over (depending how you count)#we've been texting though#i met him at my competition so if we both win again i'll see him next year lol#finn says shit

I honestly just don’t get how people default to thinking southern accents are like unserious and unintelligent, I know I live in a bubble and I’ve never been outside of the south so like my world view is skewed but like idk I can’t like conceptualize hearing someone’s accent and going “your accent is too stupid and silly for you to have a brain” like ???
#deity dialogue#sorry I’m rlly half asleep#obvs my worldview is different cause I’m southern I’m surrounded by southern ppl I hear the accent all the time#so it’s like normal obvs but idk it still baffles me#idk if I ever go north are y’all gonna be mean to me cause I talk in a way that y’all perceive as stupid and lesser than how you do??#I’ve already mentioned that even here we aren’t safe from the ‘haha youre a dumbass southern hick’ statements#which is rich cause like bitch who are you to be talking you live here too I don’t wanna hear you call me a red neck cause you’ve been here#for a long ass time to and I’m sure if you went up north they’d be on your ass the same way they’d be on mine#like what gives you the right?#like I will say also that I do make fun of the accent but in the way that lexi and I will be heatedly talking and get more southern with#each word and that amuses and delights us like idk it’s fun to look at someone who just said one word in a more extreme southern accent on#accident and repeat it back to them#but like at the end of the day we like being southern we don’t think there’s anything wrong with it or like inherently worth mocking#plus there’s a difference between two friends being silly and strangers telling you you’re a stupid redneck hick :)#this is also coming from someone who compared to other southern ppl doesn’t have the most strong southern accent (it’s there onvs but ya#know) and I still have to deal with this shit :/#sorry I need to go to bed and shut up no one caressss

I hate the attitude people have of “oh this group I don’t care about at all/as much as others is speaking up about their oppression and the problems they face, I can’t believe they think they’re the most oppressed people in the world 🙄” like speaking about about the issues we face isn’t claiming we suffer more than jesus or some shit, especially when those issues largely go ignored by the same people who consider themselves progressives! People in the southern U.S. are oppressed actually! There is so much racism and classism weaponized against those from the south, and the people who are hit hardest by that will always be those in marginalized communities, southern people of color, southern queer people, southern disabled people, you get the fucking picture! And yeah I think we should be allowed to speak up about this, because self righteous liberals up north will lock their car doors when a person of color walks by and then preach to southerners online that we’re all just too poor and stupid to be as good as them! They’ll blame us for our own oppression and tell us to just pack up and abandon our homes and everything we know otherwise we aren’t worthy of their sympathy. Of course I ain’t saying that southerners are the most oppressed group in the whole world but we should still be allowed to talk about the problems we do face, not just from our governments and our neighbors but from people elsewhere who would rather blame us and mock us and leave us behind than DARE to associate with us.
#I saw a post and it pissed me off but I’m trying so hard not to argue online with people#almost all of the highest poverty rates in the country are in the south#transgender people are rapidly having our rights stripped away by our state governments#we’re losing access to basic medical care and they’re trying to criminalize leaving the state for it too#and we don’t get. help or solidarity or sympathy from people up north#we get told it’s what we deserve because OTHER people voted for some guy and he won#but we live here so we deserve it#I ain’t forgotten how people acted when we got hit with that blizzard#how people said we deserved it as a red state. how people said they would care if some Texans hadn’t voted for trump#people were dying. who do you think that effected the most?#it certainly wasn’t the most wealthy among us#it was the homeless. the poor. the disabled. primarily people and families of color. immigrants#and people were just so cruel about it#don’t call yourself a progressive or whatever if you can’t stand with southerners#if you’d rather paint us all as racist white trump supporters than take even a moment#to look at our communities and our culture and how being from the south interacts with our other identities#you don’t get to just throw us away because we don’t look good enough for you

Friends, ya bitch did it again. We got yet another random man in love with me, and this time, he was the camera operator for an interview I was doing.
#He was weirdly nervous putting my mic on#He had to move my hair out of the way and commented about how soft it was#He's a Black man so allowed to touch my hair#don't worry#THEN during the ENTIRE ONE HOUR interview he was just cheesing behind that camera#And when we cut he commented on my southern twang#then he personally escorted me to this ofher area and I don't think he was supposed to because the people were like where are you going???#asking me all kinds of questions#opening doors and shit#He outwright smitten#then I strutted to my car like yes#ya bitch still got it#also he really perked up when someone asked me if I lived in the area and I said relatively close#now time will tell#how long til he slides in my DMs?#I mean#I ain't looking#still too traumatized#but I do love free dinner

watching fan commentary on the lotr filming process is so hard because every five seconds they make it so painfully obvious that the only thing they know about nz is that it's where lotr was filmed
#they hear 'island nation' and think that means there are no people and no infrastructure#which is just... i don't know where to begin to unpack it#do they think island and southern hemisphere = underdevelopment?#and thus bring all the imperialist and racist assumptions attached to that without understanding what nz is?#(not that such thinking would be acceptable in any situation)#just no concept of what a country with a smaller population looks like or how it magically manages to function despite not being us-sized?#remember when theonering fansite got into a beef with a journalist on twitter#because they were (incorrectly) claiming that the tax on pj's wealth would fund our covid programme?#cause i do#like that is genuine misinformation at that point all so you can clap your fave guy on the back#talking about how amazon was able to build full-scale sets or whatever and keep them hidden because we had strict border controls for covid#and there's 'not a lot of people living there'#it's embarassing guys please stop#el's ramblings

whenever anyone says anything like “America has horrible food & they dont know how to cook bc theyre such a young country and they suck” its just so obvious that they dont know anything about cuisine or common sense its just so funny to me like
#like /i/ dont know a lot about cuisine but if uou watch anyone who does its INSANE how much good food + history america has#and how like 99% of it is either like derived from native cultures or black folks (southern food especially) or immigrants during the 1900s#and then its like this dish came from trying to use up all scraps during the Great Depression ! this dish came from etc etc etc!#and its a beautiful mishmash of cultures wnd styles and needs and its just so obvious that uou dont know fucjing anyting whrn uou say that#& its like yeah america is young but the people who live here very much still have cultural history 😭 how dumb do you have to be istg#tobin talks

'god took him so the devil wouldn't do more damage' and other things my mother says about her potentially murdered boyfriend.

at some point in the future:
*non vegan reading about a new vegan leather*: psh. bet it has plastic in it tho.
*scrolls down and finds out theres 0 plastic. the non vegan gets angry since now theres finally a vegan leather they dont get to complain about*: psh, bet it doesnt feel like real leather tho.
*scrolls down to find out the creators of this leather spent a lot of time to make it more "like real leather*: psh, bet they exploit their workers tho
just say you want to use animal leather and you were never going to consider an alternative in the first place, bud
#bc ik for a damn fact plenty a yall are gonna do this.#excuses excuses#ooo but im sure all that leather you buy is totally not from exploited workers either#im sure you take Great Care making sure its not 😒#and if you do. great for you! why do you think human lives and comfort is more important than animal lives and comfort btw?#you'll do anything to avoid hurting exploited workers yes? but having anything vegan now and then is just. off the table. am i right?#am i correct? have i read you for filth?#and then you'll tell me 'no ethical consumption under capitalism' yet you still try to avoid buying from exploited workers-#so seems like more or less you just say that to avoid feeling any guilt about eating or contributing to the harm of animals?#just say you value human lives more and move on.#'no ethical consumption' to some people means 'i get to say this to excuse any behaviors i do that exploit others and to justify#why im only considerate about 1 (one) thing when it comes to buying stuff'#but what if you could do more than that though- clearly you only buy from places that dont exploit their workers bc of your morals and#not bc you think it actually changes things if you believe in the 'no ethical consumption' argument#so why cant you ever acknowledge that you're harming animals or try to make excuses for why its fine? ik deep down it conflicts with#your moral outlook too. you're selective about what you think you can change because theres some stuff you're unwilling to change.#be real. its not because of capitalism. you think meat tastes good and you like how leather makes you feel Cool and Badass or whatever#you feel Punk and Rock And Roll for wearing dead animals. never mind that that fascination is hard to distinguish from southern right#wingers who love their snakeskin cowboy boots and hunt for sport.#they also feel Very Cool for wearing dead animals 😒 bb girl you're not as counter culture and punk as you think you're coming off as#at least native ppl dont generally do it to Feel Cool

this cold snap combined with being Obligated to visit my shit parents has me fantasizing about the fact that some day i will move hundreds -perhaps thousands- of miles away from here
#eliot posts#i'm not yet sure where tho#roughly considering georgia bc it's one of the more blue of the southern states#california is always an appealing idea but the cost of living Scares Me#could also move outside of the states#prolly to south america but europe could also be neat like spain or italy or somethin#i've only done surface level research on what it's like to like in various south and central american countries#but a few of em sound good for my wants. especially uruguay i think?#alas most of the pros and cons about emigrating from the u.s. are written by the Type Of Person to blog/vlog abt that type of shit#so their complaints are shit where it's like. that just sounds like how most ppl outside of like los angeles live their life#or shit that is very much like what ot was like growing up in my rural hometown#this one bitch was weeping and moaning abt there being no amazon prime 2 day shipping#anyway tho#i do know that the immigration process is very tough (tho especially in europe)#so that would have to wait til AFTER i've spent a few years here in the states setting up a stable life and saving up money#also definitely need to get better at spanish (or learn portuguese if i wanna go to brazil) bc my spanish SUCKS i talk like a preschooler#this one lady on youtube was boohooing about ''i thought i could just learn spanish through immersion'' LIKE BRUH#you just EXPECTED the locals to accomodate you when you didn't even teach yourself RUDIMENTARY spanish beforehand???#whadda fuck

jonjay is very hallmark-esque in the sense that jay would move to a small countryside town to find himself and he hates it at first because this town has nothing but the sweet farmer boy takes him under his wing and shows him the beauty of slow living with bonus points for a scene where jon is like "i hope you choose this place. i hope you choose us" and timber is very rom-com coded in the sense that they would have a big blowout fight where they both storm out of the apartment, complete with a "BECAUSE I LOVE YOU, THAT'S WHY!" before running back to each other and kissing in the rain
#do you see my vision?#jay is a city-boy through and through but i think he'd try it#farmer!jon with his overalls and big biceps and his southern drawl that doesn't work on jay cause he's gamorran#they have a scene where jay's learning how to make pie and jon comes up behind him and is like 'no roll it like this'#and jay turns his head back to look up at jon and jon looks down from where he's explaining and they're both so close.#if they both just leaned in they could kiss#jon who feels betrayed when jay's time in the small town is up.#'why are you so mad? you knew this was temporary.'#'i thought we had smth jay. i thought we were smth.'#meanwhile timber#is going through the worst fight of their lives. and it's over smth unimportant but it's been building up for a while#and one day they just set each other off and they both say some hurtful things#'then why are we even doing this? if this is so exhausting then why are we even doing this?'#'BECAUSE I LOVE YOU! because for some unfathomable reason my heart wants you and only you! and i wish you wanted me too.'#and one of them storms out uncaring of the other calling out for them. and one of them sits out on the apartment steps all day waiting for#the other to come back and it's not till night that the other shows up.#whoever's sitting on the steps launches themself at the other and the downpour has started and they're both drenched but i doesn't matter#they have each other.#'you waited?' / 'of course i did' / 'i'm sorry.' / 'shut up.'#dc#timber#timbern#jonjay#jayjon#bernard dowd#tim drake#jon kent#jay nakamura

maybe it's just bc i was raised by a woman who grew up a farm girl during the Great Depression but i just don't understand how people don't use things until they're unusable -- wearing clothes until they fall off and are too threadbare to repair anymore, don't finish their plates (and even more heinous, don't store leftovers and instead opt to throw leftovers away entirely), don't force their old car to run far past the end of its life, don't keep their shoes until they can feel every pebble through the worn-down soles, don't keep their electronics with the glitchy screens until the picture becomes unusable or the damn thing doesn't turn on anymore. we used to fill near-empty bottles of soap and shampoo with water to try to help them last longer. we used to count the exact number of toilet paper squares we used. the living room couch i grew up with was already old and full of holes by the time i was born, and we kept it near 20 years more.it is such a striking cultural difference comparing my family and how we descend and behave from the arms of my great-grandmother and our matriarch, to other people's families that didn't struggle the same, or didn't keep their elders in close enough proximity to be affected by their history. how well did you know your grandparents? did you ever meet your great-grandparents, or hear stories about them?
#eli talks#i was a military brat (both parents in the navy) and disabled#so i spent most of my time at home with my great-grandmother and her son my grandpa#nana and papa :)#or i guess i just call him pop now#spending time with my nana and pop was SO vital to me as a kid#in my childhood memories and in my upbringing and in my values and habits#i even caught my nana's rural Canadian accent. despite living in southern California#so bizarre is it to me that this isnt everyone else's experiences#what do you MEAN you didn't live with your papa? with your nana?#what do you MEAN you didn't watch Who Wants To Be A Millionaire with a 89yo woman while she fed u lemon pudding and talked about the 40s#what do you MEAN you weren't fed fucked up Great Depression era food that makes you feel nostalgic for childhood now?#what do you MEAN you didn't grow up hearing how this whole town was just orchards and woodland up until just a few decades ago#and that YOUR great-grandpa didn't build half the old houses in town#and that YOUR grandpa didn't install half the telephones in the county?#i think being so disconnected from your grandparents n great-grandparents like that also like... disconnects you from history#how recently planes became commonplace or electricity found their way in all homes across america#you could have a relative alive RIGHT NOW that used a telegraph. that had to walk several miles home from school.#have you spoken to them? can you still speak to them?

the funniest thing about the appalachian post is every single person from appalachia arguing about which is the correct pronunciation in the tags
like. the appalachian mountains stretch from fucking maine all the way to alabama. the officially recognized appalachian region stretches from new york to mississippi. going through both carolinas, tennessee, georgia, alabama, mississippi, kentucky and virginia (and i guess west virginia if i’m forced to count it ugh)
half those states can’t agree on the pronunciation of the word “pen” most of the time. you think they all pronounce appalachia the same way??
#i'm sorry it's just funny as hell#born and raised in pa#spent a few years in tennessee#and like.#do you know how many accent differences there are between pa and tn because the answer is a LOT#a: the 'southern' accent is actually technically the appalachian accent#source: my southern-sounding aunt from central pa#b: i'm not even kidding i heard no less than three different ways to somehow pronounce pen while living in tennessee#it's stupid

Maybe it’s the late hour talking but I wanna say that I hate this state and don’t understand why the natives love it so much. But I thought the same of California. Louisiana had a few positives but I still wouldn’t live there.
Honestly, this whole country sucks. And Texas is one of its biggest states so that makes it suck harder. Goodnight.
#they ask me they say#so where do you want to live#how do i know that until i try living there?#and maybe part of a state is better than other parts#like Klamath Falls is markedly different from Portland#Tucson than Flaggstaff#I just have a short list of nopes is all#Idaho Utah California Texas#Allof the southern states#including Florida#especially Florida#Probably Iowa#just feel like Iowa is a bad idea#from all the talk or lack thereof#really need to sleep#I should be grateful for what i have#but everything in my brain looks around#at the surroundings and people#and just wants to leave
