Synopsis: Adaptation of the 7th volume of the series.
Review Proper
I'm not sure what's gonna end first: the series or my fucking life.
As much as I love Saezuru, it's gone on for so long that it's starting to get old literally and figuratively. You know, I wouldn't even be mad if Yoneda Kou ended the series by killing Yashiro off in 6. 7 is still well-written to a point and the BLCD did deserve to rank second AGAIN in chil-chil 2022, but I'm not sure about the future of this series (it wasn't nominated in 2023 tho which is one of the few good things about 2023's).
I say a lot of things, but I'm still invested in vol. 7 & 8.
I don't know who I'm jealous of, BUT THAT SHOULD BE ME! This scene is in vol 8, not 7, but I wanted to include it anyway.
I do agree that Saezuru portrayal of the whole yakuza deal is the realest 'cause happy endings over there are quite rare, but this isn't a novel that comes out in one go. Doesn't help that June is ass. I've heard from several friends who've read the latest releases that it feels like it's lost its way and that just makes me sad. I'm still hopeful tho.🤧
As I've already stated, this placed second in 2022's awards. I mean, it's Saezuru. Frontier doesn't spare a penny for it lmao. All the major characters are voiced, and they managed to bring the A-listers back again. Sometimes, I forget that Saezuru is actually based on a manga whenever I listen to the BLCDs 'cause the production is just that good.
Shingaki slayed as usual. I've said this many times before, but no matter how bad or how well he does in another role, he will always be Yashiro. I just came from Tsunaida and we're in the middle of a Rei event in Nu:carnival, so I would expect myself to adjust to Yashiro, but I didn't need any of that lmao. Yashiro is truly Shingaki's magnum opus. I'm not at all surprised that he placed 3rd best seiyuu for Yashiro. Deserved.
Speaking of Nu:carnival, I will forever be obsessed with Yashiro's relationship with the other characters aside from Doumeki. Nanahara's voiced by my one true love, Okitsu, but like Yashiro, I love him for his character and not his voice. It is nice having the other veterans in here with him, too. The slut trio is complete with Daddy Complex SatoTaku, Boss Ass Chaser Okitsu, and Damel in Distress Shingaki. #BLESS I want Kamiya to end up with Nanahara.
I haven't heard Wacchan in years HAHAHAHAHA. His Doumeki is still amazing as always. My issues with the story aside, I'm really looking forward to his "break" in vol. 8. EEEEEEE
Special mention to my Ryuuzaki and Miyake Kenta who made their comebacks here too. I missed him so much! LMAO
The BLCD is pretty accurate to the... magazine at least, but June does sell the translated tanko (fortunately). Like the previous installments, reading the manga while listening to the BLCD was so smooth because it was so accurate. Now 7 does end in a cliffhanger, so I don't really advise listening to it if you still don't have 8. But if cliffhangers aren't an issue for you, then break a leg!

Roy: Oh Fullmetal.. Everything is over, but how are you doing?
Ed: What do you mean? What does that suppose to mean? I'm not doing anything...
Roy: "Not doing anything" You don't have to act like so tough
Ed: What do you mean 'acting tough'?! I'm not doing anything! You're creeping me out..
Roy: Creeping you out? ...there's nothing wrong in asking this, is there?
Ed: What?! What- what are you even...
Roy: Show a little respect to your elders!
Ed: What's up with you?! Yelling me out of the sudden!
Roy: *Laughs*
Ed: First you were nice and now you treat me like that! I don't get you at all!
Roy: I was intending to be nice, but you-
Ed: Hold on, I get it, I get it, I get it now Colonel. Colonel... You're actually in love with me aren't you?
Roy: What are you saying?- You..
Ed: You love me, right? Just say so! I'm telling you I understand! You're in love with me aren't you?
Roy: Don't say stupid things.
Ed: What? Oh so now you're playing shy-shy with me?
Roy: Oh shut up
Ed: If you're in love with me just say it already! I hate you so much Colonel!

In terms of anime, I’ve been catching up on Gosick as well (finally). I must say < I love it so far!
This probably has more to do with Victorique (and her victorian fashion sense) than anything else, but I also love her relationship to Kujo as well, so I always look forward to that!
I’m also intrigued by Brian Roscoe as of right now, too, though that probably has more to do with who’s voicing him than anything else (it’s Tooru Ookawa).

Misumi’s VA Ookawa Tooru announced to undergo medical treatment
The seiyuu agency Mausu Promotion announced today that voice actor Ookawa Tooru (Misumi, Roy Mustang etc.) will have to take a break from all seiyuu activities for a while, because he is undergoing medical treatment for an unspecified illness. I’m quite shocked by the news because they probably wouldn’t announce his break if it was only a matter of a few weeks. Luckily the recordings for the drama CD of Saezuru volume 5 are already finished, but let’s hope it’s nothing too serious and that Ookawa-san will recover quickly!

A Masterlist of Pokemon Masters Japanese Voice Actors/Actresses
(11/6/2021 Update: Added Allister and Darach’s seiyuus! Sorry for taking a while!)
(11/27/2021 Update: Added Sonia’s seiyuu! It was based on the leak, but judging from the recent update of showing characters’ seiyuus when you set the text and audio to Japanese, it might be accurate.
And speaking of Pokemas update of showing the seiyuu when you changed the text and audio to Japanese, that certainly makes my job easier to identify the seiyuu, though at the cost of this post losing some of its purpose. But hey, at least this post helps people who cannot read much of Japanese (me included) and people who want to know their notables roles, I think.)
(12/6/2021 Update: Added Tina’s seiyuu! According from Bulbapedia, she is voiced by Takagaki Ayahi, though there does not seem to be any official confirmation from the official account yet, as far as I know. It is probably accurate, but if her seiyuu turns out to be another person I will change it.)
(12/27/2021 Update: Added Lucas, Galactic Grunts and their commanders, as well as Looker’s seiyuus! It’s from the leak. If anyone can find information about the seiyuu for the Team Rocket Grunts from the previous Villain Arc, please let me know!)
If you play Pokemon Masters, a huge seiyuu nerd, and play with Japanese audio (like me), you probably recognize a lot of the voices in the characters. That’s because...well, Pokemas basically has so many famous seiyuus playing as our favorite characters there.
Unfortunately, neither Bulbapedia nor TVTropes have complete seiyuu list for the characters. Thankfully, because of the recent Nintendo Dream October 2021 issue that came with Character Guidebook, we can finally and officially know who is voicing who, at least up until the newest Howling Shield of Eternity event!
I’m going to put the seiyuu list in the Read More below due to its length, along with their MyAnimeList / Wikipedia link so you can check their other notable roles. I will also add a bit of trivias that might be interesting for you to know (like how Rosa’s seiyuu is the same like her B2W2 animated trailer, or how most of the Galar characters share the same seiyuu like in their Twilight Wings counterpart).
I will sort them only based on their regions. There are some special cases, such as: 1. In case of Caitlin I will place her in Unova category instead of Sinnoh. 2. Lance, Koga, and Giovanni will be placed in Kanto. 3. Janine will be placed in Johto instead of Kanto, since she took over Fuchsia’s Gym in Johto games. Please note that all of this information is from the Nintendo Dream issue. If there is any new character being added in Pokemas, don’t expect me to know who the seiyuu is immediately because, well, I don’t know! At least not until there is an official confirmation somewhere.
For Blaine and Plumeria’s seiyuus, unfortunately I cannot find any English links about them that list their other notable roles. If anyone can find links about them, let me know and I will add them! If you notice any mistakes (spelling error, wrong links, etc.) please let me know as well!

LOVE OF KILL
Final Fantasy VII Remake details Rufus Shinra, Palmer, Reeve Tuesti, Scarlet, Kyrie Canaan, and Moogle Medals
■ Characters
Rufus Shinra (voiced by Tooru Ookawa in Japanese)
President Shinra’s son and the current Vice President of the Shinra Electric Power Company. He’s recently been away from Midgar on an extended business trip.
He is an immensely prideful man, with a strong rebellious streak towards his father. Despite being vice president, he sometimes enters the battlefield himself, armed with a custom-made shotgun and protected by Darkstar, a military canine.
Palmer (voiced by Naoki Tatsuta in Japanese)
The Director of Shinra’s Space and Aeronautics Division. Palmer is the eldest of the company’s executives but has no real power or influence – his division, originally founded with the latest technology at Shinra’s disposal, has all but folded since it failed to launch a rocket.
Because division activities have been suspended indefinitely, Palmer finds himself with lots of time on his hands. He’s fond of butter in his tea and chortles in a distinctive manner.
Reeve Tuesti (voiced by Banjou Ginga in Japanese)
Head of Urban Development at the Shinra Electric Power Company. He is in charge of the management and maintenance of the Mako city Midgar. While unusual for a Shinra executive, he turns his focus to the Midgar Slums in hopes of of improving the environment. The only person with a sense of decency among Shinra management, he is disregarded by the other leaders who value profit and performance.
Scarlet (voiced by Masako Katsuki in Japanese)
Shinra’s Director of Advanced Weaponry. During the war, her innovative, high-end armaments brought in a sizable chunk of change for the company.
Her wartime efforts, and the resulting profits, saw Scarlet quickly promoted to executive officer. She is highly capable, as one would expect from someone placed in charge of Shinra’s weapons development.
Kyrie Canaan (voiced by Sumire Uesaka in Japanese)
A girl from the Sector 5 slums who makes a living by pulling off scams on unsuspecting victims. Although fearless, she often finds herself in trouble.
■ Moogle Medals
A new item that didn’t appear in the original Final Fantasy VII. Moogle Medals can be found inside treasure boxes and Shinra Company crates—you’ll have to search high and low to get your hands on them.
There seems to be someone in Midgar who collects Moogle Medals—and if you have some, you may be rewarded…

BLCD Review: Saezuru 6
Title: Saezuru Tori wa Habatakanai 6 (囀る鳥は羽ばたかない 6)
Release Date: 2020/02/21
Author/Artist: Yoneda Kou
Cast:
Hatano Wataru x Shingaki Tarusuke
Yasumoto Hiroki
Ookawa Tooru
Takase Akimitsu
Okitsu Kazuyuki
Satou Takuya
Miyake Takahiro
Synopsis: Adaptation of the 6th volume of the series of the same name.
Review Proper
That's it. That’s the review. Also, I miss you, Qinni.
No, but seriously, the instant the bgm started in track 1, I was already in tears. Volume 6 was hands down the most painful and nerve-wracking volume out of the whole series so far, and it has many of the most iconic and painful lines ever said by Yashiro, so I was so scared of listening to this even though I’ve had it for a while now. Needless to say, it completely broke me as Frontier Works came at me with another masterpiece. From the pacing, to the voice work, to the sound direction, and the accuracy, Frontier Works has, yet again, hit every mark. But well, Yoneda Kou’s always in good hands as all of her BLCDs were adapted beautifully.
Speaking of beauty, let’s move on to the beautiful, beautiful voice work.
Man, Shingaki Tarusuke never fails to emulate whatever feelings Yashiro and Yoneda Kou wanted to convey in the manga. It’s no wonder that Waccha’s Doumeki fell hard for Shingaki’s Yashiro. His Yashiro is easily one of the best and most iconic performances of the BLCD world of all time. Did you know that Saezuru's BLCDs almost always place 2nd in chil-chil's awards and that Shingaki is always in the top ten? We have to stan! 😩 If they didn’t bring him in to do Yashiro for the movie, then I’m sure that there would’ve been protests. You just have to give it to Shingaki Tarusuke and Okitsu for handling these types of emotional roles. Side note, isn’t it funny how Nanahara’s always chasing Yashiro’s ass considering that Okitsu has never topped Shingaki so far? 😂 Speaking of emotional roles, I just want to remind everyone that Shingaki and Okitsu did team up for Life Senjou. *war flashbacks*
As for Hatano Wataru—this is how it’s done, boys! Waccha is one of our gen 1 whale lords that can go even lower without ever sounding flat. I don’t know how he does it and which part of his respiratory system he uses to do it, but despite how low pitched his Doumeki is, it still has a sharpness to it that keeps his voice clear and light! Waccha really has such a broad range. His Fuwa-san in Memento Scarlet and Doumeki here are almost like polar opposites in pitch and tone. Ugh. Veterans. It’s kind of funny knowing that both Shingaki and SatoTaku is in this BLCD as well considering what went down in Kanawanu Koi and Memento Scarlet. 😂
The rest of the cast also delivered. Mind you, Saezuru has a lot of cast members, but majority of them are veterans. Volume 6 has almost all of the cast of the series present sans Ryuuzaki (Miyake Kenta), Kuga (Ono Yuuki), and Kurobane-san (Kanehira Yamamoto). KUROBANE-SANNNNN 😭😭😭. I lost it when Misumi-san called his name out when he visited his grave. The sheer emotion Ookawa Tooru poured into that one line—THAT HIRATA MOTHERFUCKER GOT WHAT HE DESERVED. Sasuga veteran-sama. No expense was spared for the voice work and sound direction as it should be.
I know I said that I wouldn’t make a review for Saezuru, but since Hirata’s case has been wrapped up, I think that it was about high time everybody got the recognition that they deserve (especially Shingaki and Waccha). Man, I just love Yoneda Kou and Saezuru in general. I know a lot of people feel that it’s too dragged out and some already find it boring, but Saezuru’s just hits different for me. The beauty, tragedy, and madness makes this work so captivating to me that I will never tire of waiting for the next chapters to come out. Only Yoneda Kou knows how this will end, but I’m sure as hell that I’m sticking around to see it.
It goes without saying that I highly recommend everyone to listen to 6 and Saezuru as whole especially if you’re a fan. Despite how complex the dialogue is, catching up with the BLCD is easy. Plus, there aren’t any major additions and cut outs from the original dialogues. If you haven’t read the manga, but are interested in it, I would suggest listening to the BLCD while you’re at it because it helps you distinguish between the characters (since the VAs voices are distinct from one another). If you want more serious yakuza/police BLCDs, then give Yoneda Kou’s Don’t Stay Gold (Yasumoto Hiroki x Ono Yuuki) and NightS (Ono Yuuki x Nojima Hirofumi) and drum roll please...Natsume Kazuki’s MODS (Yashiro Taku x Saitou Souma) and Nights Before Night (Ono Yuuki & Morikawa Toshiyuki x Nojima Hirofumi) a try! WAIT. ARE YOU TELLING ME ONO YUUKI IS IN ALL OF THOSE AND THAT NIGHTS AND NIGHTS BEFORE NIGHT HAD THE SAME CASTING???? ARE YOU A BANCHOU, SIR?!

That anon that mentioned wanting Brohood to have diff VA's because Alphonse had a different one had a good point. Even in the Japanese dub of Brohood, Roy Mustang had been recast (from Tooru Ookawa to Shinichirou Miki), which was pretty shocking to me when it came out. Again, as you said, probably just because he got old (not voice dropping old, but old old lol). I kinda wish we got to hear more characters recast now that that anon brought it up haha.
Yeah, Japan definitely got a lot more cast changes than the English dub did. I always kinda wonder why tbh. Aside from the Elrics, some characters who kept the same voices in Japanese include Bradley, Armstrong, and Izumi, but a lot of other major characters (Roy, Winry, Greed, Kimblee, Envy, Hohenheim, etc.) got new ones in Brotherhood.

Seiyuu Rant: Gender Inequality
The following is a repost of a post I made in 2018. It was flagged and removed for “explicit content”.
The reason you don’t hear [female seiyuu] in anime is simply because she’s an older voice actor. Even someone as popular as Hanazawa Kana hasn’t been getting many roles lately. Those roles have all been going to cheaper and younger voice actors. It’s sad, but don’t expect Sakura Ayane to be as prominent after about five more years. That’s how the voice acting industry is.
- Reddit Commenter
Okay, so I was on Reddit when I asked, “What happened to Aya Hirano?” She used to be in her prime when she got roles in Lucky Star, Haruhi Suzumiya, Fairy Tail, and a whole bunch of other things. Her most recent role that stuck with me was Parasyte which was back in 2015. Since then, I have heard so little from her in seasonal anime.
That’s when someone brought up the elephant in the room… then shot it and stabbed it.
We all know the world is a sexist waste ball, but I have always turned a blind eye to the fact that female seiyuu get phased out really easily. I know Tumblr mostly focuses on male seiyuu since the demographic for this platform is usually younger women or something like that, but I think female seiyuu losing popularity and roles because they’re “getting older” is kind of sad.
In this rant, I rant about the inequalities and hardship facing female (and male) seiyuu. I added some stuff compared to last time.
Age:
Hanazawa was born in February 1989. She just turned 30. The idea that she’s not getting as many roles is kind of scary, isn’t it? Aya Hirano is 31. For Hanazawa and for the sake of anime, I hope that just isn’t true.
I know I always joke about people getting old and how they always go, “My back hurts!” or “I have to go to bed [at 8pm].” or “Back in my day…” (why do I even make fun of that? I do all of the above??) But these voice actresses aren’t even that old. I wouldn’t want anyone’s careers to slow down all because they reached the age of 30. A career slowing down should be by choice.
Average Age:
But if you want cold hard numbers, I’m going to do some math. I’m aware that I’m bad at math, so I’m going to explain this process. I made two posts about the TOP TWENTY seiyuu for both male and female.
Links: MALE | FEMALE
What is the average age? I added up the age of all twenty seiyuu then divided by twenty. Unfortunately, all numbers hold the same amount of weight meaning that the number one spot and the number twenty spot both get calculated the same way.
Average Male Age: 37
From the No. 1 to the No. 20 spot: 43 + 33 + 38 + 38 + 35 + 40 + 32 + 44 + 40 + 27 + 51 + 32 + 36 + 27 + 38 + 44 + 34 + 35 + 46 + 31
Average Female Age: 29
From the No. 1 to the No. 20 spot: 23 + 33 + 29 + 26 + 24 + 27 + 31 + 39 + 24 + 23 + 38 + 29 + 28 + 26 + 25 + 38 + 24 + 34 + 33 + 30
I understand that male seiyuu tend to debut later, but that’s still a very large gap. Female seiyuu don’t even have anyone over 40.
[more below]
Health:
Not to mention, this seems to be a trend across the board, doesn’t anyone notice that both mangaka, seiyuu, and artists in general always get sick because they overwork themselves? Hosoya took a break because of his throat, Taneda took a break because of illness, Umehara took a break because of illness, Akesaka retired from singing because of her throat and health, Yurika Endou retired because her health was declining, Tooru Ookawa took a break due to illness, Keiji Fujiwara took a leave due to sickness then returned later on, and the list goes on.
Early Retirement and Demand:
If female seiyuu have to work that hard for a career that won’t last that long, no wonder some retire once they get married or pregnant. It’s not a viable option to stick around if you’re going to be pushed out like that in a few years time. I know there are exceptions and this and that, but this is just reality. Even once you finally make it, you’re only going to be there for a little while. And access to playing good female characters is always going to be limited, but that’s a rant for another time. I’m just saying that maybe if we had more good female characters, maybe we would have more demand for more voice actresses.
Image and Fans:
While male seiyuu have this too, I think it’s important to acknowledge that female seiyuu are expected to obtain “idol-like” images these days. They achieve this by restricting their personal lives by not dating and watching how they dress and present themselves and providing an innocent image for their fans to admire. While there are several examples of not being allowed to date, the most recent example of this is when Ayana Taketatsu got married to Yuki Kaji. [source]
Some of them do photo books (sometimes of a more provocative genre) that require them to pose and distribute images of themselves which can be uncomfortable, and while it’s arguably “consensual”, there is probably pressuring to do these types of things. Sometimes, they also post their “BWH” measurements. This means that they have to post their bust, weight, and hip sizes. It’s a very restricting lifestyle, and while fans of any seiyuu can be over-the-top, female seiyuu fans have been known to be exceptionally disrespectful.
Offences by Fans:
Eriko Nakamura was tracked when she went on a trip because someone went onto Google Maps and used her pictures to find out where she went and what route she took. But that’s just a specific example of how female seiyuu’s pictures are taken by fans and dissected (and distributed) to show what they do with their lives.
Nana Mizuki got death threats because she didn’t reply to a fan on a few occasions. Yurika Ochiai also received death threats and noted on her blog that she had to take a break from the public due to stress, but who wouldn’t be stressed about strangers threatening to kill them? Aya Ueto has received death threats as well. Arrests were made in these cases.
Haruna Ikezawa was stalked and defamed by a stalker who was later arrested. He wrote defamatory comments on the voice actress's homepage and repeatedly send messages asking for a personal meeting, telling the voice actress to "come by herself". It was not confirmed whether this was the same person, but someone also followed her through the streets at night resulting in a restraining order. [source]
Mai Kadowaki’s fan was arrested after he sent a letter saying that he would kill her parents. [source]
Aki Toyosaki got into heat because she was dating someone... despite being in her 30s. “Fans began posting photos her CD K-on singles broken into pieces and photos of her K-on character's face crossed out in red ink. One fan even uploaded a photo of Toyosaki surrounded by bullets and a hand menacingly gripping a knife (above). Another fan wrote on 2ch. about killing her. These might be "jokes", but they are hardly funny. [Source]
Sumire Uesaka was sent and read a letter where she was creeped out by a fan letter, but it was played off as a joke.
And during the Kokoro Connect scandal (which is included in some links below), Eri Kitamura was harassed by fans that were sending her dick pics and hate messages via twitter to the point where she had to stop using Twitter (she has resumed Twitter activity a while after).
I talk about this more below in the “scandals” section, but female seiyuu get heat for things that are arguably normal. Again, voice actors like Hikaru Midorikawa have gotten into scandals like this too (Midorikawa was accused of cheating because of a matching piece of jewelry or something).
Scandals:
When Aya Hirano’s scandal occurred, people were threatening her and cutting up her merchandise and pictures.
Daisuke Namikawa got into a scandal involving adultery where he allegedly cheated in 2004 when he got married in 2001. He cheated with a teenage girl who worked at his former agency. According to an interview, this relationship had gone on until “recently” (when it came to the surface in July 2017). [Source: Anime News Network]
In my opinion, cheating is one of the lowest things you can do to your partner, and if you do such a thing, you should have a good excuse. But with a teenage girl? Come on. At the start of the relationship, he was 28. He should’ve known better, yet, we never hold these acts against him. He’s still getting a lot of roles in anime, and as much as I don’t have anything against him as an actor and as a master of his craft, I can’t help but think of this whenever his image comes up.
In the Kokoro Connect Scandal, we see a public humiliation of a male voice actor. Two of the main players in the scandal are Takuma Terashima and Hisako Kanemoto. While I don’t know the complete reasons for this, Takuma Terashima can somehow still get roles and even sang the opening for that Slime anime? We don’t see Kanemoto often though.
The Arts Vision scandal was terrible. She was assaulted at only 16. This incident did occur in 2006, and he was released a few months later after his arrest. He stepped down as chairman in 2007. I feel like he wasn’t really held accountable. He apparently was released for medical reasons or something like that. Basically, bullshit. What’s even worse is the fact that he was the founder of the company, and this agency represents a lot of good voice actors Saki Fujita, Jun Fukushima, Souchirou Hoshi, Tomoaki Maeno, Kousuke Toriumi, Yuuichirou Umehara, and Daiki Yamashita just to name a few. It is also the parent company of I’m Enterprise which is another huge agency which houses Saori Hayami, Youko Hikasa, Kaede Hondo, Rie Kugimiya, Maria Naganawa, Mai Nakahara, Saori Oonishi, Ari Ozawa, Chiwa Saito, Ayane Sakura, Aya Suzaki, the Uchida siblings, Tatsuhisa Suzuki, Hiro Shimono, and Yoshitsugu Matsuoka. He had a lot of power, and I imagine this wasn’t his first time taking advantage.
Male Seiyuu Benefits:
So, male seiyuu get more leniency in expressing themselves, more time in the industry, more interesting parts, more work, and possibly more money. And when I say more leniency, I mean A LOT more leniency. The cast of Haganai was saying how it’s great how they can say “うんこ (poop)” in front of a large audience. Meanwhile, we have male seiyuu who can discuss panties without anybody judging. If a female seiyuu were to do that, she’d probably get scolded by her manager. They are to stick to a certain image, and they can’t do much outside of it. A huge part of Aya Hirano’s decline was caused by her sleeping with other band members (except for the bassist; RIP I’m a bass player).
While seiyuu in general cosplay, it’s far more difficult for female seiyuu to cosplay because of costumes in anime are... you know. There is a stream where Akari Kito is pressured into wearing the costume that her character wore, and yes, it did happen. If it’s any consolation, the seiyuu community felt a bit conflicted about it.
Harassment Within the Industry:
Like pretty much all industries, female seiyuu experience sexual harassment as well. Few have been open about it, but Atsuko Enomoto commented on the progression of the #metoo movement. She talks about wanting to give up and quit the industry. There have also been comments about producers and directors hitting on and harassing young female seiyuu, and they can’t do anything about it because they’re starting out. And this is only the stuff that makes it onto the surface.
Hiroko Konishi also shares her experience that happened decades ago where female seiyuu suffered from abuse, sexual harassment, and other hardship because they were expected to “sell themselves”.
There have even been comments on how there’s a “casting couch” in the industry.
Yurina Hase also speaks about the “casting couch” and how disgusting the industry is.
Hase revealed she experienced a "casting couch" situation once for an anime that was produced at Sunrise. She said that she was asked to perform sexual favors, and when she refused, she was notified the next day that she did not get the role. She said that this was her only experience with a casting couch as an anime voice actress.
Before the livestream, Hase wrote on Twitter that she planned to "reveal how I really feel," and that she has "the resolve to end everything."
In the stream, she also gave advice to "watch out for the male voice actors." She said that the newcomer male actors tend to let the attention go to their heads, and immediately try to lay their hands on the female actors.
She received multiple death threats in 2009, causing her stress. She later resigned from her role in the The IDOLM@STER series as Yukiho, and was replaced by Azumi Asakura. In 2014, she took a break from new voice acting roles.
Voice acting is a tough industry, but being a female voice actress is even tougher. I just wanted to put this rant out there because I casually say things about it from time to time, but with that Reddit comment, I think I finally wanted to give it its own post.
