Bells Hells didn't know, but it seems they stumbled onto a situation similar to the occupation of France during WWII. The power in place is absolutely not a democracy and controls the agriculture and the production of things for the war effort, and don't hesistate to increase the demand on specific things. Some Reilorans are clearly collaborating. We know some don't. We didn't see it 100%, but my guess is : the majority of the population of this town is indifferent, just doing their daily tasks, like Dono. There is an opposition but the necessity of the secret means the contacts through the opposition network is slow and help will not find its way immediately. The population is at risk if they align with the opposition even in spirit or small gestures (hiding people). The population can and will be used as a litteral meat shield if anything happens.

I honestly love how easy it is to cheese the Gauntlet of Shar, and all while working completely within the system of both the game, and the faith itself.

Like, the "cheating" solutions fit so perfectly into Sharran teachings that I'm pretty sure that's what you're meant to do, honestly. Sure, you can brute-force it by playing by the presumed (never explicitly stated!) rules, but in the domain of a faith the main point of which is secrecy and deception, completing the trials easily by skewing the rules but without violating any explicit ones and avoiding all penalties is what sounds to me like what would actually be befitting of a Dark Justiciar's thinking.

The Self-Same trial is defeated by being somewhat cautious, and just sneaking in through the door until you spot them. In one surprise round, you can quite literally vaporize all of the shadow clones without them ever getting to lay a hand on you. They are very easily defeated in one or two rounds just by a counter-ambush. That's perfectly logical, strategic thinking that's totally within the rules.

The Soft-Step trial, literally all it needs is for you to get one character to lockpick the door and waltz in, and you can have them stand next to the altar as someone on the other side activates it. You don't even need to sneak, you just have to think slightly outside the box and take what you want, which is literally written on the wall of the inner chamber, as part of Shar's wisdom.

But the Faith-Leap trial might be my favorite, because on top of any jump-enhancing technique making an utter joke of it, it's also literally defeated just by Shadowheart being Shadowheart. Like literally her base strength is high enough that she doesn't need the paths, she can just leap from platform to platform, and end up on the other side without ever needing to wade into the darkness. Her being her is the greatest folly to Shar's trial, which is just... so thematically fitting.

so how did Killer's eyeballs just- rot out of his head?

so basically, soul fuckery leads to the leaking hate from his eyes which is!! not fucking great for em! especially when you have physical eyes and skin! so it burned a lot he has some burns on his face from the leaking hate but eventually he gets used to it n stuff. until it starts damaging his vision.

so he panics about that obvious but hes an idiot so hes not gonna tell nightmare about that n just try n deal with it n he does for a while it gets worse hes gonna keep pretending its not happening. unbeknownst to him though, the hate wasnt just damaging his vision but physically damaging his eyes n the tissues around them.

so he ends up waking up barely able to see anything one day and whats he gonna do? tell nm? nope! lock himself away in his room for weeks.

what basically happens his eyes get infected from the damage, he gets worse emotionally which leads to more hate leaking, and it causes his eyes to start physically rotting! hes fully blind at this point no matter what but in basically a panic attack he ends up cutting the rotted eyes out which is when nightmare learns whats going on.

and yeah it was fucking painful for him

bad news: my sister found out i gave up on nilou’s banner and made me grind more primos for her last minute by doing the imaginarium theater’s hardmode for the first time (took like two hours) (very frustrating with all my barely qualifying characters)

good news: we did, in fact, manage to get nilou (when there were literally 8 minutes left on her banner)

bad news: i hadn’t expected to get her so i was using resources on other stuff and now im EXTRA poor from leveling her and she’s not even done yet

Im not going to say specifics but theres so much 'through the grape vine' discourse on the internet that is so frustrating for a lot of reasons. But the most frustrating kind is the "baseless or otherwise unnuanced/overdramatic accusation of someone or something" that is either debunked, old and outdated or proven to be a much more complicated topic. But all most people will see is that first callout post and will internalize it as fact for years. Theyll continue to parrot it on other platforms whenever its mentioned and then outsiders will see that out of context and internalize that as well. Until its so far from the context and the damage is irreversible.

Or will take what might have been a understandable criticism but will turn it into a "this thing is irredeemablely bad and youre a bad person for liking it." If you so much as mention the thing you will have people saying "isnt this thing evil and bad?" Because of a tumblr post they read 5 years ago.
