Quick tonal study of MG (tried very hard to stick to 2.5hr time limit over two days). He’s such an obliging subject with all those beautiful lines and angles 😍 and perfect for practising with 🩶🖤🤍 I love the expression in the reference photo and the fact it’s in profile. I tried to capture his understated-but-OMG-smile and butterfly-inducing vibe, whilst trying very hard not to envy the person he’s looking at like that.

In terms of my learning journey, I started by trying to identify the different values in the reference (pop art style), played with some filters, then had a whale of a time with the smudging tool and then, for the detail, I tried to use techniques I’d read about in Laura H. Rubin’s brilliant book ‘Of Strokes and Shades’, as well as experimented with some of her texture brushes. Tried hard not to overfaff with it, as that way madness lies… but it’s difficult to walk away when there are lots of bits that need work. Ah well, perfect excuse to find my next piece of inspiration!

Got another Constantine drawing, but this time, it's different. As said in a few posts before, I've been doing observational drawings! And this is another one of my Constantine figurine.

I only used blue and yellow alcohol markers (they were chosen at random). This was mostly for practising tones and shadows, and i haven't found time to use markers recently, so I found this quite fun to do!

I forgot to post the other ideas I had for the Lino print, so I'll post them tomorrow.

Outfit of the day! | 17.09.24

I finally remembered to take a photo of my outfit! Quite classic but on trend with this autumn’s vibe (and all things I already had in my wardrobe!).

Today’s 5 hours of drawing focused on light and negative space, using a rather messy graphite powder and more solid sticks of graphite. I did find this quite challenging as it’s not quite my preferred medium but I enjoyed the experiment :)

Additionally, I began a tonal study on the effects of light on the fabric elements yet I may take an even smaller section to really capture the movement of the satin which is quite difficult to replicate.

I made this portrait with graphite, gauche, and acrylic for a class i was i and decided i should share it for pride month <3

if you don’t know who Marsha was, they were a gay rights activist in the 1960s-70s and i’d highly recommend reading up about them

it’s kind of a shit photo but you get the idea. happy pride month!! 🏳️‍🌈
