"No man can kill me." _________________________________________________________
@merilles made me feral about the idea of Tar-Míriel being the Witch-King of Angmar so I had to draw it

what if arwen was a knight. what if she got to be both the lady and the knight. what if her shinning armour reflected a gossamer dusk. what if elrond was as scared to lose her to the love of a mortal (any mortal) but to the tenets of duty which he wished to save her from

I attempted Procreate Dreams again, got frustrated with the app, and returned to Roughanimator.
Anyway, have a peaceful loop animation inspired by My Neighbor Tortoro ft. Tolkien-AU Marlin, Nemo, Dory, and Bruce!

I don't know if this is a weird question, but have you ever thought about how konbart would fit into a lord of the rings or more fantasy setting
I have thought about Kon and Bart (and DC in general) in a strict Tolkien AU and the thing is, it got so wildly different from DC canon I was basically making OC Tolkien characters by that point because there are some things that just fundamentally don't mesh well.
I did however settle that Kon was absolutely some sort of critter created by Melkor - he's Melkor's attempt to try and create one of the Ainur from scratch via fantasy-esque science that we already have in Tolkien. Naturally, he couldn't do it exactly how he wanted and he needed to borrow material to start with (Clark's Tolkien equivalent which I have noted being a special kind of Ainur that had perished somehow except for him).
Kon's origins to start are a pretty big unknown, I'm not entirely sure if he was made in Utumno or Angband but he was 100% created. I couldn't work in his exploitation really but his personhood is always questioned because "can anything Melkor have made really be alive?"
Clark shut that down damn fast and he's respected enough people listen, but still Kon is sort of held at arm's length and has to frequently 'prove' himself.
I feel like in any 'fantasy' setting Kon would have some sort of origin like that in that he is a being that was created from magic or science, alchemy or necromancy so it leaves a wide range of origins to play around with.
For Bart specifically in Tolkien it gets a little hazy because Bart's comic origins involve time travel. The Lord of the Rings are not strict staunch fantasy stories, particularly not the Silmarillion where there are a lot of science fiction elements - Tolkien was a fan of science fiction and he had a delightful way of interpreting science fiction themes or blending them within fantasy elements.
For Bart... He is 100% from the future, but he's like, from more than 1000 years in the future, he's from more like 100,000+ years in the future because the time difference between ages in Tolkien already can be several thousand years old.
Bart is the same sort of critter that Luthien was but leaned heavily on his Ainur side - he's more Ainur than whatever his second half is (I am undecided) but he really can move like the wind and he dances like light on water.
Ainur do not know what to do with him.
As for his back story I have it scribbled down (tentatively) that he was born just before the end of days in an age where Valinor (for whatever reason) was reintegrated with the physical world. It was an age of peace and unity where technology and nature existed in harmony and unity and all sentient beings worked with each and loved each other - where Quendi that had long since faded due to life wariness now found comfort and joy in life and the Ainur were content to see that what they helped create so long ago really was that beautiful.
Then Melkor came back back out of the void walking around on his stupid little stump legs (<- that's in my notes) and decided to fuck things up.
I don't know how it happened or why but Bart was sent back in time by [redacted] because he's a special boy that Melkor would either kill outright the moment he got ahold of him or would try and manipulate him. So naturally the most logical solution was to send him back in time to the... (checks notes).... First Age... where Melkor is alive???
To be fair they didn't want to send him the First Age, they wanted to send him back only maybe 1000 years but they hadn't really tested this technology and perhaps there are other forces at play and poor Bart ended up in the First Age with his mind a little bit scrambled from the trip.
Max does end up taking him in in this, he's one of the quendi that refused to leave Cuivienen period or go West, he's one of the Avari. He's unsure what to do with Bart really at first but Bart's still a teen when he shows up, and he's in need, so he resigns himself to helping him and they bond. I have a note here about an agreement with Nessa allowing Bart to stay with Max only IF Bart stays there and doesn't leave, there's an implication that they also fear Melkor getting a hold of him.
In a basic more generic fantasy setting Bart can be fun to play with I think but I believe him being something distinctly not human is a must - the more impish the better and I personally think leaning on him being a refugee and being lonely is a plus. ANYWAY how KonBart happen in this AU that is turning more into just an original story at this point because we've broken so many rules and stretched canon thin - Bart doesn't meet Kon until he's actually a few centuries old, which means little to most everyone at this time.
How they meet is Bart decides to, impulsively, go West anyway breaking the agreement Max made with Nessa because he got tired of being there and he wanted to see his kin. Bart doesn't have any context for Kon and just thinks he's amazing and fascinating and he makes him feel less alone.
I don't have anything else for this Tolkien AU kjfnjkrbfe
As for a more generic fantasy setting I haven't gone too far because fantasy can be such a broad range I would need like, a world bible FIRST then build from that; what species exist, is magic a thing, what are the fundamental rules etc etc etc.
I'm not sure if any of this makes sense or is what you were looking for but this is all I have and all subject to change.

Playing around with the idea of posting more sketchy/sketchbook/preliminary stuff now that I'm setting a goal for the rest of 2023 and into 2024 to put more prep/thought into my illustrations...
Working on an illustration that is "Arwen Meets Princesscore" and I haven't decided if I'll be doing the final illustration in gouache or digitally, probably digitally bc I don't use gouache like ever haha but I might do some sketchbook paintings to practice and like i said, may be sharing the process as I work on this illustration...
Here's two fun character sketches for this piece... Arwen in a 'underdress' as well as having fun playing with her hairstyle for this illustration :)

Au Idea: Maeglin is the son of Aredhel and Glorfindel and it is one of the reasons for Eöl’s hate for them. Aredhel is already with child at the time of her taking refuge with Eöl. Glorfindel desperately searches for Aredhel, knowing of his fathering her child.
In Gondolin, Glorfindel takes Maeglin under his wing, looking out for him.

Shadowrun could be the future of Silmarillion verse
Random thought that occurred to me today: the Shadowrun verse could be a future "age" of the Silmarillion verse.
The Silmarillion fandom has people from every generation. Certainly, some of the older fans and even some of the younger fans can be "Western medieval purists" when it comes to the Silmarillion and Tolkien's world in general. So, there is a resistance to futurism.
However, the very concept of Dagor Dagorath suggests that the world is not going to be "medieval" when Morgoth returns.
Now, in Shadowrun, the lore is that at some point, non-humans start to appear in the human world. The explanation in the Shadowrun verse is "unexplained genetic expression (UGE)". But that can be easily modified to a "return/reconnection".
If you think about the "last age of Arda" in Tolkien's verse, it stands to reason that the last age will be kicked off with the return of the dwarves. Technically, the dwarves are supposed to be still here but too deep underground for humans to reach. So reconnecting with the dwarves would be a big indication that the end is nigh!
Secondly, Morgoth is supposed to attack Aman first because that's still where the entrance into Arda from the everlasting darkness exists.
The implication/prophecy says this time around, the Valar and the elves will be wearied enough that Aman will be devastated. So you can see a situation where knowing what's to come, the Valar and Maia reembody every single elven fea that's ever been born, including Feanor and his sons, put them on boats and sends them to Middle Earth, i.e. to us, while they hold the line against Morgoth as long as possible.
However, the Valar and the Maia fail. They have wearied as the song of Arda has gone on. They no longer have the strength to win against Morgoth. They lose, and Aman becomes the staging ground for Morgoth's invasion of Middle-Earth.
So, the straight road becomes cursed because that's what Morgoth is using to send his minions to attack humans, elves, dwarves, and hobbits.
Also, Morgoth would absolutely love corporatism! He is totally someone who would use capitalism fully to just devastate nations and people. He wouldn't even have to trick people because short-termism is so baked into corporate culture that way too many corporate executives would totally side with him.
In the meantime, I could see the returned elves find places for themselves and found new nations and kingdoms. Valar can and have created land out of nothing. So, I think one of their last acts would be to create an elven continent in the Pacific Ocean so the elves don't have to go into a resource conflict with humans immediately.
The new continent, let's go with Mu which an established lost mythical continent. Unless New Zealanders are happy to share their country with elves because the continent of Zealandis is real and if raised would easily support New Zelanders (there is only like 5 million or so of them) + all elves (calculations say that elvish population at their height was around 3 million, throw in baby boom during the long peace and even then I can't see there being more then 10 million elves). Anyway, point is elves establish new nations in their new continent and begin preparation for war with Morgoth and war comes quickly. Any surviving Maia would also seek refuge among the elves.
I can totally see the reborn Feanor totally embracing technology and mixing tech with magic and just leaning really into "magiktech". Sons of Feanor too would just be a bunch of Deckers, Riggers and Celegrom would be a physical adept... am I unfair in how I think Celegrom is just a meathead? 🤔
In conclusion, I totally think that Shadowrun verse is fully compatible with Tolkien verse, and the world of Shadowrun may well be what the last age of Arda looks like because Shadowrun is what would happen if elves, dwarves and magic suddenly returned to our world of technology. While the concept of the final battle with Morgoth implies that magic and magical races like the elves will return to our world before the end...
But mostly, I just want to see the sons of Feanor + Fingon as Shadowrun archetypes!

*Kronk voice* “aw yeah, it’s all coming together”
Just a self-taught animator finishing up this animation, which will be paired together.
I’ll be honest, I have little plans for a massive project.
I’m just seeing how far I can take this project while also learning animation along the way!
This one clip was experimenting with me animating separate pieces on separate layers and then combining them.
Admittedly, Procreate is difficult to color in due to the 72-layer limit. But I made it work. Even with 45 individual frames.
Frame rate: 24fps
Programs: Roughanimator, Procreate
Number of frames: 45

A collection of tales set in Mordor, many of which feature various creatures that dwell within that dreadful land.
Forced to flee Mordor so they can be together, a pair of young lovers take sanctuary in the Mountains of Shadow, where they find a mysterious valley inhabited by giant cats and fell beasts.
The commander of the Fortress of the Setting Sun is an eccentric man with a streak of cruelty, a twisted sense of humor, and a deep and abiding love for ferrets.
Imprisoned in the Houses of Lamentation, the Witch-king of Angmar befriends a lowly rat named Murg, inspiring him to lead a revolution against the cats of Barad-dûr.
Descended from the Mearas, the black horses of Mordor are famous for many things - intelligence, loyalty, an intuitive knowledge of what their riders expect of them, and speed which surpasses that of most other horses in Middle-earth. They can also speak, although there are few who understand what they say.
CHAPTER 6: Disaster strikes the party when Inbir is attacked by one of the scimitar-toothed cats that prowl the Mountains of Shadow.
