If you have floodlights attached to your house, that are motion activated, and thus make it look like sunrise out of your neighbors' windows at 12:00 am because of how fucking bright they are (confusing, also, the birds and wild animals), then I have a message for you.
I hope you know that when you die, you will not find the cool and comforting softness of the earth, the worms and the tree roots. You will not find an easy, gentle submission into the dark and the quiet. You will not find the relief of being pulled into death like falling into bed, of an afterlife that comes to you sweet like nectar and peaceful as the night.
You will find the sterile bright white of a hospital room fluorescent, the constant jolt of adrenaline holding you pressed tight against awareness. You will find a conscious, drilling knowledge of the emptiness around you, in you, stretching through you and out from within you into everything unknown. You will find an itching discomfort and a constant surveillance inside your own head- paranoia - you will find you have no throat to scream and no hands to reach and no eyes to close and no "self" to save and you will be painfully, severely Awake.
Uninstall your fucking lights, loser.

2024 Fic Year in Review
I was tagged by @cha-melodius and didn't think I was gonna do it because I've already done a couple of similar ones, but I've just posted my Absolutely Definitely Last Fic Of Twenty Twenty Four and y'all know I fucking love statistics, so let's do a final round.
AO3 Username: kiwiana (also KiwianaPods and yourbuttervoicedbeau) My Page: Link Active Fandoms: Red, White & Royal Blue New Fandoms this year: The Pairing (also, technically, RWRB film) Total Number Of Completed Works/Word Count This Year: 59 fics + 9 podfics; 156,624 words + 7:03:11 audio minutes All Time: 264 fics + 29 podfics; 821,192 words (personal, not including words written by co-authors on cowritten fics) + 23:26:31 audio minutes
Most Popular One Shot (by kudos): This Year: Warm like the glow that you feel head to toe (RWRB; Alex/Henry; E; 5,131 words) All Time: Kinda think that I might be his type (RWRB; Alex & Bea, Alex/Henry; E, 12,864 words)
Most Popular Completed Multi-Chapter (by kudos):  This Year: Never want to live (or die) without you (RWRB; Alex/Henry; E; 9,999 words) - also my *only* completed multi-chapter this year, and the multi-chap that's still a WIP does in fact have it beat for kudos lmao. All Time: With so much of my heart (that none is left to protest)  (RWRB; Alex/Henry; E, 65,586 words)
Events/Challenges: Voiceteam 2024, A Royally Big Bang, Kinktober, Fandom Trumps Hate, idk do what you want exchange
More reflections, stats, and planned fics below the cut!
Additional Random AO3 Stats
Words written in 2024: 162,302
Words written in 2024 that are still unpublished: 9,367
Words written in 2023 that are still unpublished: 7,990 (whoops)
By rating: 86.44% explicit, 3.39% mature, 6.78% teen and up, 3.39% general audiences

Song lyric sources: 14.29% Taylor Swift, 10.20% Matt Nathanson, 6.12% Sabrina Carpenter, 4.08% each The Jane Austen Argument, Bon Jovi, Hozier, Mýa.
Looking back, did you write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected? Less, for sure. I hadn't really factored in Transing My Gender and how much that was going to fuck with my creative energy.
What’s your own favourite story of the year?  Like loving the stars themselves, Doctor Who AU my beloved.
Did you complete your writing goals from last year?  IDEK what my goal was, but probably not to be honest lmao.
Do you have any writing goals for the New Year? Finish my original novel. Which mostly means editing, at this point - don't be fooled, though, this fucker was fast drafted, so it needs a LOT of editing.
Did you take any writing risks this year? I mean I quit my entire job to focus on original writing soooooooooo
Story of mine most under-appreciated by the universe, in my opinion: Also Like loving the stars themselves, as above. But also maybe all the non-FirstPrince Kinktober entries!
Most fun story to write: Life was a willow (and it bent right to your wind). The entire premise is SO SILLY and it was just a blast to present it for Kinktober.
Biggest disappointment: Oh, let's not go there lmao.
Biggest surprise: Don't think I had any big ones.
Coming soon/planned for 2025: The only thing I am actually committing to is finishing the Anastasia AU and my subscriber shindig fics. After that... idk. I'm a bit adrift at the moment, fandom-wise.

there’s a part in take me back to Eden that says “i’m in a waking hell and the gods grow tired.” do you think it’s referencing the origin of vessel and sleep? as in, vessel was in “a waking hell” (reality/earth) before he shifted away from his previous life to believe in sleep (a ‘tired’ god)?
Hello there, Anon! This is a goooooooood one, let me roll my sleeves up for an answer-
This is a delicious perspective I have not considered before, however! I do believe he says "I'm a waking hell" there and I will explain later why, but for that I would have to leave the interpretation of the whole song here. And it will kinda mix the being in waking hell and being a waking hell, because I overdid it again. Apologies in advance.
For me, this song refers to the beginning of it all, to an event which was perhaps the final straw for the trilogy (or even the general idea of Sleep Token) to exist. There are parts of this song that feel like a reminiscence of a catalyst for the whole sleepy business and parts that describe the present, after Vessel got a taste of what the whole sleepy business is about. I'll try to explain that now!
I dream in phosphorescence Bleed through spaces See you drifting past the fog But no one told you where to go
We dive through crystal waters, perfect oceans But no one told me not to breathe And now the weightlessness recedes
Okay, for me, the first verse is him dreaming of the times before, of his Eden (a person, a "better" time in his life, whichever suits you). He bleeds through spaces (in the Dreamworld?) to see what he has lost and craves to come back to. But the dream turns into the moment it all went wrong, where they got lost/drowned. He comes back from the dream-turned-nightmare to the present with the chorus:
My, my, those eyes like fire I'm a winged insect, you're a funeral pyre Come now, bite through these wires I'm a waking hell and the gods grow tired Reset my patient violence along both lines of a pathway higher Grow back your sharpest teeth, you know my desire
(Oh god let me be feral about the chorus for a second here, ok. GOD I LOVE THIS SO MUCH, HOW CAN YOU WRITE POETRY LIKE THIS AND HAVE THE AUDACITY TO DELIVER THOSE LINES SO DELICIOUSLY. WHO GAVE HIM THE RIGHT. IT'S BEEN ALMOST 8 MONTHS AND I AM STILL EXPERIENCING EMOTIONS UNNOWN TO HUMANKIND WHEN I HEAR THIS- okay I am back to being normal now.)
He wakes up and remembers how cruel being under Sleep's influence is. That no matter what he dreams of (hello, The Apparition), he is always waking up to the reality, which is still terrible, despite Sleep's promises. The eyes (probably 6 of them huh) are Sleep's. Sleep continues to lure Vessel in, even when Vessel knows, after being with/serving/worshipping Sleep for quite some time now, that Sleep is going to be his downfall. But he stays, cause he has no better options, mayhaps?
And we're finally getting to the waking hell part which you've asked about!
He is in waking hell still, even if he thought he's going to escape from it. He knows he cannot/will not separate from Sleep now, but it's not like he's going to make Sleep's life easier with completely giving up. He:
isn't happy about the sleepy business (anymore);
has an attitude and WILL bite back;
will make his suffering everyone else's problem now.
Which brings me to the gods - in many interpretations I've seen, Sleep is an outcast in some sort of pantheon. He needed Vessel as much as Vessel needed him and together they are more powerful. Sleep helped Vessel in his lowest moment and Vessel, while gathering more and more worshippers, gave (and is still giving) Sleep enough power to make other gods' lives miserable as a revenge or something. Or just, you know, grow in power in general, it doesn't have to be a revenge. The other gods will be pissed off either way, because one thing all gods hate is other gods/entities growing in power.
The symbiosis with Sleep has worked for a while, but due to various reasons (Sleep getting too greedy, as gods do, not all Vessel's problems being magically fixed by Sleep's presence, miscommunication, different expectations, broken promises etc. etc.) Vessel started to rebel. He's in waking hell still (despite Sleep's promises that lured him in in the first place), so he will become one for the ones he can lash out on now (Sleep and the other gods). He embraced the become ungovernable meme. Isn't there a saying "hell is other people"? He took that literally. While he's awake, he is insufferable to all who he thinks is at fault for his current state now.
I will travel far beyond the path of reason Take me back to Eden
And he's happily going to continue to be insufferable to get what he wants (what Sleep has promised him when they've made their pact or whatever it is they did tbh), even if it's not reasonable to do so. He's beyond caring at this point.
And we're back to flashbacks, baby!
Well yeah, I spit blood when I wake up Sink porcelain stained, choking up brain matter and makeup Just two days since the mainframe went down and I'm still messed up Room feels like a meat freezer, I dangle in it like cold cuts Missed calls, answered phones from people I just don't trust Mirror talk, fake love But I'll take a pound of your flesh Before you take a piece of my paystub White roses, black doves, Godmother, rise up I need you to see me for what I have become
I really think this depicts the catalyst for going under Sleep's influence and the very moment they became entangled. Something happened (accident, death? and the aftermath of it, the lowest point, depression, becoming wary of people around him, aggression etc.) and that's when Sleep took an opportunity that would benefit them both (with the hidden agenda for later, of course). Now imagine the magical girl transformation with the roses and doves flying around and from Just Some Guy he becomes a Vessel and in the last moment of realisation of what he has done, he's crying out to the Godmother (whoever she may be!) that he's changed and probably irrevocably so.
Back to the present!
I guess it goes to show, does it not? That we've no idea what we've got until we lose it And no amount of love will keep it around If we don't choose it And I don't know what's got its teeth in me But I'm about to bite back in anger No amount of self-sought fury Will bring back the glory of innocence
He's realising that no matter what, he cannot turn the time back. Not even with Sleep's "help". He's not going to give up though, just for the sake of having something to do out of spite.
I have traveled far beyond the path of reason Take me back to Eden
Ok, with this one I am frankly not sure if it's "I have travelled" or just a repetition of the previous one. Can't hear it clearly and we don't have official lyrics (i am side eyeing Vessel so much rn). But. If it's "I will", it's just repeating of the things he'll do to piss the gods off. If it's "I have travelled", then maybe he's just confirming the past won't come back, even though he tried everything (has travelled far beyond the path of reason) or maybe he is still hoping the possibility to get back there physically, when everything was fine, and will fight for his Eden still. And not just out of spite.

About Vixen?
So you want Lieutenant Vixen? I’ve got Lieutenant Vixen. And not only one. But TWO!
Tumblr media
Oh yeah! We got the show female fox and the manwa male fox!
I tried to render this piece more. I think the clouds turned out better than the characters. The hard round MAX OPACITY brush really did wonders for my art. But it’s time to introduce softer gradients. I got to constantly innovate after all. I first drew the characters with the hard round MAX OPACITY brush. I found their uniforms a bit too monotone. So I added some red to them with a very textured brush. Not the best idea. You can still see some of it on the female fox’s butt. I would have removed it but… I merged the layers and I couldn’t reverse it. Whoops.
Life goes on. So I used the airbrush to smooth out the texture. It preserves the original brush strokes while making everything more united. I learned that from working on a piece inspired by Leonardo Da Vinci. I think the best turned out the male fox. For the female fox I used a little too much airbrush. Soft brushes are really hard to master.
I could ramble more about the art process. I think it’s something really important to document and share. But now I want to get to what I think of Lt. Vixen.
At first I was kind of annoyed at her popularity. Men being unable to see a female character and not sexualize her challenge. But then I watched the episodes she was in and I was like OH. As a pansexual I was HOOKED! Special shout out to her voice actress Lim Um-Young. The whole show is bizarrely horny for puritanical North Korean standards. Looking at you mice maids. If you want to learn more watch Paper Will’s video on North Korean entertainment. It’s great.
She is also definitely one of the best characters. A true girl boss. So sad they didn’t make any more episodes. So much lost potential.
Her male counterpart… I haven’t read the manwa because I know like three words in Korean. So all I can say is that I like his character design. Both of their character designs are great. I imagine he’s probably your general evil angry guy. The stories are generally focused more on plot than character. And that’s alright. All the more room for head cannons!
I don’t include the wolf army in my AU because they’re a little too modern for my taste. I like to keep things early 20th century vibe you know. Also by the time I got around to season 2 the first time I was already kind of burned out. But here are my ideas.
At first I thought Lt. Vixen could be trans. But I didn’t have much ideas on what to do from there. So I thought why can’t there be more than one fox? Specifically the manwa fox could be her twin brother!
The two of them grew up in a shitty orphanage. They were their only family and they HATED each other. I got to give them names. Vixen is the female fox and…I dunno Bob is the male fox. It’s just so you don’t get confused while reading. The hard life in the orphanage made Bob more empathetic and inward focused (he writes sad gay poetry trademark). Meanwhile Vixen lost all her empathy and her range of emotions is very shallow. I like the creepy idea that she just doesn’t have a soul poetically speaking. She bullied Bob their whole childhood. Bob feels weak and like he can’t do anything without his sister. Even though he views her as the embodiment of evil.
The only way they would become anything more than poor factory workers was by joining the military. Both of them earn their ranks by seducing their hireups. Even though Bob hates being in the military and would love to just go be sad and gay somewhere else, for the first time he feels like he can be something without his sister. When he starts to earn his ranks faster than Vixen she does not like it. And she murders him!
Oh my goodness! This post been going on for ages. I haven’t even gotten into my ideas for Lt. Vixen X Geumseagi and how Bob plays into it all! Send me another ask if you want to see that.

think about it
interest swap - each of the characters gain the hobbies and interests of their server and pass on their own to their client, their personality doesn't change much and they treat it in a same/similar way to their original.
(this'll also affect sprites)
the goal is to change what the kids like but not how they like it
for example, in this universe
John: likes to write long winded reviews or analyses about trashy wizard and cosmic horror books he likes, he specifically likes to analyze characters and the psychology in the writing. He loves making references to the books he likes. His sprite is a one armed wizard statue fused with nana
Jade: likes comedy and pranks, and trashy movies. she has a great understanding of comedy and the nuances of it, has it down to a science pretty much. And she also really likes trashy movies, thinking of them as if they're really deep and meaningful. Her sprite fuses with taxidermy jade and the stuffed bunny
Dave: furry, it was inevitable tbh, he's into science and tech, probably keeps up with news about technology advancements and stuff, but he's not a genius with it or anything. He's also into gardening, he's pretty bad at it but he loves the very few plants he manages to keep alive very much. his sprite is a guardian tiger fused (who was NOT his) with alternate timeline dave (Cal would, unfortunately, be a blue lamp or something of a woman, which Dirk brings everywhere he goes ironically, and also because it contains the influence of a homestuck obsessed super fan (yes in this AU Calliope hates homestuck and Caliborn loves it))
Rose: raps, calls it slam poetry or musical poetry or something like that, definitely doesn't call it rapping. She's a nerd for irony like Dave, but more in her sarcastic mind games tone, she loves drawing shitty ironic comics that look like they're trying to be like old newspaper comics from the 20th century, her main comic is a garfield knockoff but with jaspers. her sprite is a cake with problem sleuth drawn on with icing, which I am declaring is an old comic of the likes of garfield and calvin and hobbes in this AU (unless if a better idea presents itself to fit this role), fused with jaspers
thoughts?
oooh i LOVE these!!! i love how the characters are still themselves in this ask, rather than "rose dialogue on john sprite" that i saw in a lot of old bloodswaps. i love keeping their core traits and having their environment bend around them to suit those traits, rather than their core traits changing because of the environment theyre in.
i especially love the idea of rose making ironic parodies of newspaper comic strips. she seems like someone whod really enjoy r/imsorryjon and other weird garfield media.
and yeah. dave is already a closet furry if he was raised on an island hed just embrace it.

Okay this has been on my mind for a while but I haven’t seen anyone else talking about it so I’m gonna have to make this post
I hate every single secret reveal in the reboot
They mean nothing, they tell us nothing about the characters, and the would you rather questions don’t do anything either.
In the original seasons, the characters do have secrets: No one asked Heather to the Prom, Dakota’s need for fame is really a depressed cry for love, and Sam farted on the first and only date he ever had.
These all tell us something about the characters: Heather’s forceful mean outlook may be a defence mechanism or something that has left her lonely in the past, Dakota gains some depth, she wants attention to fulfil her need for love and is going to a therapist to talk about this, Sam is established as a stereotypical unlucky in love nerd, setting him up to gain a love interest later on.
The would you rather questions in the reboot tell us nothing relevant or interesting about the characters because they’re so random.
We learn that Bowie would rather wear clown makeup than publicise his DMs. Maybe he’s a private person but it’s never revisited and he continues being incredibly confident and outspoken. It conflicts with how he confronts the rest of the cast about his actions in the previous season. He stands by them and doesn’t care if people criticise them. Surely the same would go for his DMs. The response doesn’t match his personality because it wasn’t intended to help build his character. It was just random trivia that seems rather thoughtlessly attributed to him.
Axel likes poetry. This isn’t inherently bad except it seems like it was only added for the shock value of buff girl likes something we wouldn’t normally think. And also to give Ripper a way to work his way in as a love interest. She literally refuses to read something in one of the episodes shoving the paper at Caleb. Does that seem like the action of someone who values poetry and writing? Not really.
MK sleeps with a stuffed unicorn. Cute, but also seems to be a shock value, you weren’t expecting this kind of thing. Also we never see this stuffed animal despite seeing her bunk several times.
Emma would rather eat toenails than not shower. The episode establishes that she bites her fingernails purely for this part. If I remember correctly she doesn’t bite her nails at like any other point.
Priya would rather be merged with a warthog than have Chris as her dad. This is true for everyone and therefore tells us nothing.
On the whole it just felt kind of lazy. Some of the questions did reveal bits and pieces of characterisation like Caleb being on good terms with his one ex, but most of them just set up one off gags or were completely random.
All of this sort of culminates in an episode that felt like it was trying to give the characters more depth but didn’t want to fully commit to any new traits they’d have to add for the rest of the show.
I’m probably reading too much into it but I just felt kinda disappointed.

Trick or treat ✨ฅ(•ㅅ•❀)ฅ
Depends on your interpretation of a treat, Pix. You get an excerpt.
The new school was interesting, at least in Chris’ opinion. Sure, people still gawked at his scar all the time, but it was so much better than where he was before. His English teacher immediately assigned reading partners, explaining that discussing the readings was just as important as drawing conclusions individually.
Chris glanced at his reading partner with disinterest. Her name was Millie Fitzsimmons, and she did not speak sign language. Her last name reminded him of Jeremy, which was the only reason he bothered to take an interest in her at all.
She was staring right back at him, seeming very interested in his dyed hair and scarred face. Chris didn’t take it personally. He did look interesting to an outside observer. His hair hadn’t really grown back yet either.
Millie leaned toward him as she spoke, “So, Chris. What types of books do you like to read?
Chris tapped his pencil against his notebook for a moment, considering her question. His mother’s house had a wider selection of novels, and since she was gone all the time – albeit seeming more apologetic than his father or sister had been – he was allowed full access to her bookshelves.
Chris wondered if she was the reason his father’s house had absolutely no books or interesting material. It explained a lot, especially after he’d found his own name scribbled in the front cover of several books. He determined that they were definitely above his age-range when he’d originally read them, probably explaining his nightmares.
Finally, he remembered that Millie was waiting for a response. He shrugged, writing, “A bit of everything, to be honest. I prefer short stories to anything else.”
He wished he could explain better. That he loved seeing how writers wrote such wonderful stories without needing a whole book or even a series to capture it all.
While Millie skimmed the words he’d written, Chris quickly added, “Poe’s my favorite author though.”
“The Cask of Amontillado” was Chris’ favorite story to read since the Bite. The implied betrayal and potential for the narrator’s guilt at having killed Fortunato was all too familiar to Chris.
“Edgar Allan Poe is your favorite author?” Millie raised an eyebrow, mildly impressed. “What’s your favorite work by him?”
Chris stared at her for a moment. Should he be completely honest? Truth be told, no one had tried to hold a conversation with him this long before. He gave a so-so gesture before writing, “If I have to pick one, I’d say ‘The Cask of Amontillado.’ What about you?”
She hummed for a moment. “I’d say… ‘Annabel Lee.’ The love shared between her and the speaker transcends heaven and hell, Chris. Isn’t that amazing?”
Chris shrugged. He found the poem depressing, truth be told. He couldn’t even imagine understanding what it could feel like to care for someone like that, only to lose them to others’ jealousy. But Jeremy would, a voice muttered in the back of his mind. He frowned slightly as that came up. It was private information, and whomever Jeremy chose to be with was none of his business.
Millie was carefully watching his expression, and she frowned back at him. “Do you hate romance or something?”
Chris shook his head. He wrote, “I just don’t get it.”
“Huh. Maybe you should read more,” Millie said, patting him gently on the shoulder as the bell rang for the end of class.
He decided he didn’t really like Millie, after that moment. Maybe it was something he should’ve blamed the Bite for instead of her overwhelming emotional attachment to a piece of poetry, but really. Did people actually develop obsessions with other people’s relationships?
Unfortunately, the rest of his morning didn’t go very well, and he found himself stuck eating lunch with Millie that day. And the next day, and the next day.
He didn’t understand how the entire school just decided they weren’t worth the effort of getting to know, and he expressed it in his letters to Fritz. Fritz would write back, saying the social circles must’ve closed before he was ready for it.
Chris always scowled after he read that. So eventually, he gave up, instead asking Fritz how Susie was doing. Funnily enough, his responses to that were much lighter and more cheerful. Fritz had succeeded in getting her to spend more time with him at lunch, and apparently, they ate together every day.
Fritz talked about how much she loved baking and how cool she found his ability to run. Fritz was excited about his friendship with Susie, and Chris was certain he wanted to push it further. If he’d had any advice for Fritz, he’d tell him to slow down and make sure they were close enough that their friendship could handle it if things went downhill. But Fritz was his best friend, so he just pretended to be happy for him.
The next week, he decided to be nicer to Millie about her whole thing with romance. “So,” he wrote in his notebook during lunch, something Millie never ate. “I’ve attempted to figure out what you mean by the transcending romance, and I just don’t get it.”
Millie frowned as he started eating. “Well,” she said with severe emphasis, “I prefer the stories where they’re willing to die for each other. When one dies for the other, you really see how things are. Like, depending on how they grieve, you can tell whether they actually loved each other, or if something was amiss.”
Chris considered that for a moment. “So if they don’t mourn properly, they don’t love each other?”
“Exactly.” Millie’s frown faded. “See, you kind of get it.”
Chris frowned. “Well, if that’s how it works, then my family probably would prefer if I was dead.”
Millie stiffened. “What?”
Chris shrugged. “I don’t mean my mom. I just mean that my dad and my sister probably couldn’t care less if I was alive. So I left to live with my mom.”
“Oh.” Millie blinked at him. “I thought you meant they’d try to kill you or something.”
“Well, someone actually did do that too,” Chris wrote. “But it was an accident.”
“You’re a strange guy, Chris.”
Chris just shrugged. He didn’t really care either way what she thought. Pointedly taking a bite of his sandwich, Chris successfully ended the conversation.
“Got any plans for winter break?” Millie asked him a few days later.
Chris considered the question for a moment, before shaking his head. “Fritz wants me to come visit, but I don’t particularly feel like going back there.”
Especially since Fritz was talking about all the kids who’d gone missing. Each time it happened, Fritz sent a letter dedicated to all the information he knew about the kid who’d gone missing. Every time, Chris could tell right away, and he’d put it in his desk, unread. Fritz wasn’t sending those for a response anyway. It was just a way to cope, or so Chris believed.
He sent letters back asking about school and Fritz’s relationship with Susie. Fritz constantly shot back encouragement to come visit and see for himself, but Chris didn’t think he was ready to go back.

For your poetry post!
I am by no means an expert and deffo agree that writing when you’re sad is the easiest/ things flow a bit better but that’s not really all that helpful if you’re trying to practice.
I re-read old things I’ve written or revisit poems I’ve enjoyed before and then I try to write something opposite. Like if it’s a poem talking about how love is the ocean, you try writing about how it’s actually sand. Or how the feeling of hate is the sea. When I try to write like that it makes me engage with the original piece of poetry so much more and I fall in love with it all over again, as an added bonus.
But when you’re trying to explain a concept in a completely different way than the one that usually resonates with you, it can offer a different perspective and help you learn more about it.
For example if you really enjoy poetry about loss and when you’re re-reading your favourites you notice there’s a theme that keeps popping up about shadows, then you probably understand grief to be about darkness. In which case try writing about it being a ball of light, or a flickering oil lamp. It’ll make you think in a way that doesn’t usually come naturally and you might create something unexpected
Another thing I do, is just collect words I hear and see- ones that stir an image, even if it’s just the barest of ideas. I once did a spoken word workshop where they just had us write a factual account of something that happened/ a conversation you’d once had. From that you start pulling out themes or phrases that catch your attention. Most of us had a piece of work at the end of the time that was wildly different from the event it stemmed from and was inspired by a couple of words. I started off with a conversation with my childhood philosophy teacher and ended up with a piece about bruises that I was quite pleased with
Again, very much not an expert, but these are just a few things that I’ve found helped
omg thank you so muchhhhhhh <3333 all this things look really helpful, imma try some of them as soon as i have some free time and i'll reblog this to make you know my experience with this ideasss
and again tyyyy <333

1. How many works do you have on AO3?
7! Although like half of them are just fanart so I really haven't written that much. :3
2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 35,919 - SHAMEFULLY LOW
3. What fandoms do you write for?
Currently just Lockwood & Co although I have a Miraculous Ladybug fic that has been languishing in my WIPs on FF.net for years. I meant it to be a oneshot and then it got comments so I kept writing without an ending in mind and I've lost the plot. :p
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos?
Inside, This Place is Warm - L&Co
Three's a Company (And a Home) - L&Co
Everyone Makes Bad Decisions - L&Co
Part of Your World - L&Co (fanart)
Powdered Sugar - L&Co
5. Do you respond to comments?
Yes! Usually when I update, so it may be way later than the original comment, oopsie.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
I don't think I'm capable of writing anything but a happy ending tbh, haha. I just can't do it to myself. Part of the fun of writing fic for me is getting the satisfaction of seeing resolutions that didn't get done in canon. Although I guess the ending for one of my unfinished ones is semi-angsty? But I shan't spoil it!
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
Probably Three's Company (and a Home). Love me some cot3 realizing they are all crazy about each other.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
Fortunately no, but I think that's more due to the fact that so far most of my posted fics are for rarepairs, so there's less eyes on them in general. In fact I'm usually surprised when I get comments or kudos from people I don't directly interact with in the fandom, lol. I'm used to the audience for my fics being pretty small.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?
Yes! I...I don't know what kind? N...normal??? Well I guess technically all the smut I've posted so far is poly? I'm new enough to it that I'm not super familiar with like, categories so, uh...that's about all I can say to describe it ...but if you told me like five years ago I'd be not only writing, but sharing smut online I'd be so scandalized, haha.
10. Do you write crossovers?
Not yet. I'm not super into crossovers as a trope, it has to be like, really well written or a really compelling idea for me to be into it. There's a handful of crossover ideas I've had for a couple fandoms but nothing that has compelled me enough to sit down and write. Maybe more likely to do some silly comics at some point.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I'm aware of, but the idea that anyone would find any reason to steal my fics is hilarious to me. Like...why.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
No. Again, my audience is pretttttttty small. Which is fine by me, I'm not posting for popularity or numbers, it's just fun to have my friends like my work. :)
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
Not yet. I think I'd be more open to doing illustrations for a work, honestly, than co-writing. I'm...bad at sharing creative control. -_-;
14. What is your all-time favorite ship?
StarfireXRobin, my childhood OTP, forever in my heart (UuU)
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?
Oh god. Don't get mad but I honestly keep forgetting I even wrote the first chapter of Everyone Make Bad Decisions. I started writing it as a silly self-indulgent one-shot and then it bloomed into a terribly complex soap opera level drama in my head that's just honestly really intimidating for me to think about writing all the way out. I have mad respect for people who can stick out writing a fic that's more than like, 5 chapters.
16. What are your writing strengths?
I like to think I'm good with metaphors and descriptions. I really like writing poetry and I think some of that comes out in my prose too.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
Finishing a fic, lmaooooooooo
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic?
Hmmmm, personally it'd have to be really relevant to the plot for me to include it, otherwise it seems like it makes it harder for the reader?
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Teen Titans, the Cartoon Network version. I was OBSESSED.
20. Favorite fic you’ve written?
Hmmmm, probably Inside, This Place is Warm. I haven't finished posting because the last two chapters need some massaging before I'll be satisfied with them but it's all written. It's the most ambitious fic I've written so far and also something I never would've predicted myself writing, which makes it really fun.
Tagging @monsterbananatv @hailqiqi and @ohmyoverland cause I wanna see your answers! :3

hi ollie!! 9, 36 & 33 for writer ask <3
9. Thoughts on cliffhangers.
cliffhangers are great, they're a well established way to keep people hooked! what happens next! i do find that if there is a cliffhanger at the end of many chapters in a row, i get exhausted but i feel like its a great tool to use in moderation. i think of it in the same way as old tv shows that operated around advertising breaks - cliffhangers ensured that people would keep watching to find out what happened at the end of the ad break! to a certain degree they're used at the end of book chapters / serial web stories too bc of course we want people to keep going. so yes, i think they're a wonderful tool when used in conjunction with other tools
33. Give your writing a compliment.
oh geez another one? ok uhhh its the product of a lot of effort . is that a compliment?
36. How do you come up with fic titles? What's the one you're most proud of?
i hate fic titles. i tend to do either a line/fragment of line from the story itself OR a fragment of poetry / phrase that inspired the work like museum au is "we are out with lanterns" which is a quote from an emily dickinson letter & its all abt how the story is about loneliness n trying to figure out who they are. my favourite title is probably Faramore, the Modern Pandora. which again is the frankenstein au just because i thought it fit very nicely n i like what it suggests about the story. like, the original is Frankenstein, the Modern Prometheus, which suggests some inspiration, some gift from the gods given to men. which you can think of in the story as frankensteins ability to animate, to create life, & frankensteins unending torture upon having given his creature to humanity, to the world, & u can think of it as perhaps a tool or lesson that he is giving to his new friend the captain (i dont recall his name), of knowledge idk i have to think abt it more. anyway, i chose pandora bc of the same reasons. the idea of discovering something & opening it, cursing the world with all the ills. having hope left in the box. of finding something & being entrusted with it, of it BEING opened. did she do it? was it done to her? anyway. much to think about

20 questions for fic writers
Thank you @marypsue for tagging me! (I didn’t lose the post! You just alerted me in October and in October I wrestle with poetry.
1. How many works do you have on AO3?
WELL. 734.
2. What’s your total word count?
1,407,987 oh that’s a much more normal number. (The question then becomes the reason for the amount of fics under 1000 words.)
3. What fandoms do you write for?
The vast majority of my fics are for Rise of the Guardians. I have a significant-length fic for Venom and another for Thor. I have recently used Ao3 for an original work that I think fits with Ao3’s vibe and is like, 1000 levels of AU down and sideways from blacksand; an intensely explicit 2nd-person fic involving Moder, the monster from The Ritual; and, what I am still very excited about, a 150k foray into The Dark Crystal.
4. Top 5 fics by kudos
The first is Give You Everything, which is the Venom fic. This doesn’t surprise me, as I posted it fairly soon after the first movie came out and I’m pretty sure of everything I’ve written it has the greatest number of people who would be likely to see it. The others, though! “Single Snowflakes” “How Old?” “What It Means To Ask” and “Down and Dirty”: These are all Jack Frost/Bunnymund short fics that I wrote in response to prompts! Furries rule the Earth I guess!
5. Do you respond to comments?
For the past several years, I try to respond to all of them. But on my earliest fics I didn’t (though I did print them out and put them on my refrigerator to help me through grad school).
6. What’s the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?
“Warmer Than I Thought”-Jack is going to die and he’s not going to come back the way he was. (I love seeing this in my daily kudos email because it is just plain angst. That was the vibe yesterday, huh, Guest or Username?)
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?
“His Time”- The Guardian polycule has essentially become the pantheon of a new earth, and they’re in love and they’re making it good this time.
8. Do you get hate on fics?
The closest I got was a person who appeared to be crabby about me a) having the characters talk to each other too much and b) enjoying the praise other commenters had given me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
9. Do you write smut?
All the time, and probably more extensively than is useful for people who want to get off. I do want what I write to be hot, but it’s also about intensifying the connection and vulnerability between characters, and explore whatever emotional weirdness they’re dealing with.
10. Do you write crossovers?
I think I’ve only written one crossover that wasn’t for a prompt, so basically no.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?
Not that I know of.
12. Have you ever had a fic translated?
Once someone talked to me about translating one of my fics into Spanish. I was very excited and gave permission, and then I never heard anything else, so I don’t know what came of that.
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before?
I was going to say no...but on the table beside me is a DBZ fic that my friend and I wrote passing a small notebook back and forth in 7th grade. (I do plan to put this on Ao3 to, you know, archive it. :D)
14. What’s your all-time favorite ship?
Pitch Black/Sanderson Mansnoozie, pretty obviously, but the vital thing for me to lose it about a ship is for the people involved to be opposites/opposed in some cosmic/fundamental way.
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you will?
I have a mostly-canonverse post-movie getting-together blacksand fic where the big change is that both Pitch and Sandy change their bodies and pronouns after the events of the movie so that they’re both women (to have a clean slate?) but I lost steam for it because my ideas for it weren’t distinct enough from ground I’d already covered in Without Contraries There Is No Progression.
16. What are your writing strengths?
With a little input from others, I will say dialogue, the use of different registers of language, and sensory descriptions.
17. What are your writing weaknesses?
I’ll tell you what, plot does not come naturally to me. So of course I want to write one of those big political space empire stories.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language?
I wouldn’t do it for more than a few words or like, one of those stock Latin phrases that can be easily looked up or that I just know thanks to my milieu. I’m more curious about this question being here at all. Is this common enough to go in a list of general questions about fic? It’s not something I see often enough in published fiction or in fic to even remember if I have.
19. First fandom you wrote for?
Probably a dead tie between Sailor Moon and DBZ. A very popular genre among my friends when we were in middle school was having a hapless reporter interview anime characters. Not a clue why! But we thought it was hilarious.
20. Favorite fic you’ve ever written?
I’m super hype about Incarnation, as you probably know if you’re on my blog reading this post, but the ultimate favorite still goes to A Draught of Light, aka how I tricked myself into writing an original epic fantasy novel by telling myself it was going to be a 10,000 word blacksand AU. The thing is though, the version that’s really my favorite is the one I privately revised to streamline a few things and change it so it was even less related to Rise of the Guardians than it already was. So it goes. I still love the one on Ao3.
Who's writing that I haven't seen tagged recently... @linddzz, @bowlingforgerbils, @queerpyracy, @sylphidine

Just who are you talking to lol?
"""That One Anon: Get the fuck out of fandom then if you are That against "theft". Your blorbos aren't yours, then, they belong to the original creators. Go pick up a pen and write your own characters, thief. Never make a creative aspect without citing every single possible subconscious influence you took for it. That head tilt you drew? The concept of a sad backstory? Proper credit only, you thief."""
You sound like anne rice.
The difference anon is not about the characters. No one is claiming they own characters from certain shows, or claiming that they are their own original designs.
Its about how AI datasets are trained on the art of other artists without their consent.
People love fan art. Most if not all smaller artist will love you if you decide to draw or write fan pieces about their characters. Games and shows would not be as popular as they are without fandoms. Many encourage the making of fanart and fanfic. I know genshin impact for example expressly allows the selling of fan made merch and even hosts hoyofair for fans to show off their fanart and such. Its not theft to draw a character but its theft to claim it as your own.
Its theft to generate images made from stolen artwork and claim it as your own original "art".
You also don't understand the concept of copyright laws.
"""Oh, what's that? You don't count?""
I do count actually. If i made a game and stole the characters from a bunch of other games and tried making money off it while claiming them as my own i would actually be in trouble.
Transformative works like fan art and fanfic dont count usually because these days by default as long as you dont try and claim it (the characters and canon stuff) as your own, you are more than allowed, encouraged even, to create and sell those things. Unless its disney. Because disney sucks.
Im probably not the best person to explain these nuances to you
Please actually educate yourself about transformative works.
"""I read books daily. I write and draw from pure imagination, and study artists on youtube to get better at drawing."""
Good for you? So do i lol?
"""I also think AI is a tool that can be used for good or ill, and it's how people use it that matters. Much like how a keyboard doesn't stop a human from sending anon hate."""
I tried responding to this but it got so long and convoluted that im just going to hope someone else has the patience to answer something as ignorant as this.
"""I'd commission artists if I could! I've done so in the past. But guess what, I don't feel safe asking for commissions now on the off chance a artist realizes I think AI is a tool like any other and harasses me when I never would have brought it up. Despite the fact many artists both fandom and original have tons of influences both credited and not. I've seen human artists and writers get accused of AI for STYLISTIC CHOICES that anyone with half a thought should be able to tell was artist intent and inline with previous works."""
1. That's a personal problem dude. Maybe you should reflect on why artists might not like you for using something that actively steals their work. Also this low-key screams entitlement.
2. What does the rest of that have to do with anything. I think you forgot to connect why any of that was important.
"""I can count on one hand the amount of collage art/blackout poetry/drawn over photographs I've seen in public museums that were properly credited beyond the editor. I can't count the amount of media I've seen that nudges at other pre-existing works that was either hyped up for it or was said to justify that aspect."""
I believe you should actually do some research on those things before bringing up your surface level observations in your argument.
"""Ko-fi tipping, Patron subscriptions, sales of generically labled charms and prints and fanart to get around what's Actually being sold. Art style memes, art referenced from canonical works as intentional homage uncredited. Uncredited style inspiration. The entire existence of unsourced, constantly remixed memes.
You gonna claim that's all fine, but anons should expect to be accused of being "techbros" and linked to foreign words meaning "masturbating and crying" for just asking what an artstyle from a artist is called? That it's actually FINE to drive off people wanting to be creative no matter the medium because that particular one 'isn't art' and so no one can want to be a artist and use it?"""
See that all falls apart if you would all just realize stuffing stolen art into a machine, putting in a prompt to get a random result, is not creativity. There is nothing creative about that.
Best analogy i can come up with rn is thats almost like me searching for "powdered donuts" in the walmart online store and just picking whatever one i think looks best and then claiming i made the donuts. Instead of going to a bakery and custom ordering exactly what i want or making it myself.
The biggest difference between AI and other artforms is that what AI produces and generates is not creative. Theres no actual thought or consideration going into most of the work.
The machine itself is amazing. The programming needed to make such a thing function properly is actually impressive. But what it produces is not creative. And if you knew anything about how these machines and programs worked you would be able to understand that.
"""I swear I've gone back to the 2010s and 'is digital art REAL art though? the computer draws the line for you? You aren't a REAL artist, you just use photoshop to edit things.'
"That's still done by a human person though-"
Hypocrite. Get the fuck out of fandom."""
Again. If you actually understood how "AI" works you would understand the difference.
Its not hypocritical and this is a false equivalence. You are ignoring the process which differentiates these things in favor of focusing on the fact they are both machines.
In digital art it is almost no different that traditional. The difference being it doesnt use materials, and you have the cool undo and redo button, and other effects buttons you would not get with traditional art. You also dont HAVE to use those things and you are forgetting that you have to learn how they work and use them MANUALLY.
People who use digital art dont claim its easier either. Its more convenient. But as a digital artist, its imcredibly difficult and time consuming depending on what im making. I have a personal project that has 170+ hours on it. Even with all my fancy buttons ive had to go back and redo things countless times and fiddle with things. I have to deliberately choose what color goes where, what brush to use, what layer setting i need ect ect. And its all original.
Saying digital art isnt real art is like saying driving an automobile doesnt count as driving because you have a bunch of buttons and levers to do what you want instead of ordering horses around on a wooden carriage.
With AI the machine does everything for you. Its about the same as googling a picture of a bunny (typing a prompt), choosing a picture (taking what's generated), and posting it and claiming its your own. (Theft)
So no. People who use AI can get the fuck out of fandom. Thanks.
Posting as a response to a previous ask.

20 questions for fic writers
Tagged by @cnnmonbimee!! Thank you for tagging me himeeeeee <3
1. How many works do you have on Ao3? 19 across 2 accounts :3
2. What’s your total Ao3 word count? 281,075
3. What fandoms do you write for? I used to write for the Good Omens and Johannes Cabal fandoms, but recently I've been writing only for JSHK. Originally my jshk account was going to be just an alt but at this point the brainrot is so ingrained that my og account is just gathering dust now lmao
4. What are your top five fics by kudos?
More Trouble Than You're Worth (M) | Words: 183,372 | Kudos: 893
Nothing But (Even More) Trouble (E) | Words: 11,205 | Kudos: 181
Torpor (T) | Words: 5,676 | Kudos: 131
Tit For Tat (E) | Words: 2,739 | Kudos: 123
Mostly Cloudy, Chance of Showers (G) | Words: 1,231 | Kudos: 117
The More Trouble landslide always makes me laugh haha. Just no fucking contest. Wipes the floor with everything else.
5. Do you respond to comments? I try my best to do so! I love getting comments and I always get excited when an author responds to my comments, so I try to respond to as many as I can. Sometimes, though, there isn't much to say in response, or I just get anxious--so there are some that I leave alone.
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Hmmmmm. Much to think about. I think it's a tie between Full Course and Gossamer, My Gown. Probably Gossamer is angstier in general, but Full Course has more gore. But it's hard to pick because in my mind...despite the angst in the stories, they're both...happy (ish?) endings lmao. Bittersweet at the very least. Things turn out. Don't worry about it.
7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? More Trouble!! Definitely More Trouble. It's sickeningly sweet. Absolutely tooth-rotting lmao. I love it. They suffer so much in canon I just had to give them a well-deserved break.
8. Do you get hate on fics? Not yet 👀. Maybe someday I'll write something that earns me the 'fandom disgrace' badge. But as of now, I've been relatively lucky and things have been quiet.
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I do! I love writing smut, I think it's really fun lmao. The stuff I've published tends to be on the sweeter side (very 'overwhelmed with lust and adoration / going braindead with love / fucking as an exploration of character vulnerability and earnestness') but I like to branch out now and again.
10. Do you write crossovers? I tend not to. I like to write AUs, sure. But straight-up crossovers aren't really my jam.
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? I don't think so!
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Nah. I've had someone make a podfic of one of mine, but no translations :3
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Once or twice. Nothing published, though.
14. What’s your all time favorite ship? I'm a Hananene/Amanene whore. I'm obsessed with them. The babies. The lovelies. The sweethearts. The idiots. So tragic. So sweet. My favorite goobers ever ♡♡♡
15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? [sweats] nobody look in my WIP folder lmao. I'm hopeful that I'll get to most of them eventually, but the ones on the farthest burner are an alternate endgame for Hananene, and a Night Circus AU.
16. What are your writing strengths? I'm good with imagery and metaphor, I think. It comes from my background in poetry :3c
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Plotting. Definitely plotting. I'm more of a gardener than an outliner, so if a fic is long and has actual. like. Plot? I can really struggle to get my feet under me.
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? I think it's fine in moderation. If you're conveying actual important information, I think it's best to write it in whatever language you're writing in, so people don't have to translate for themselves. But if you're just using it for spice or to center a piece in a certain area or culture, then I think it's fine. Just make sure you're actually saying what you think you're saying. Don't like...half-ass a translation or anything lmao.
19. First fandom you wrote for? Johannes Cabal! I love him so much I highly recommend the books, they're some of my absolute favorites :3c One grumpy German necromancer against the world! ♡
20. Favorite fic you’ve written? Of course, I'm so so proud of More Trouble, and I loved writing it. But I'm also really proud of Something Borrowed, and I'm very proud of Full Course. Out of all of them, I'd have to say Full Course.
I can't think of anyone that Hime hasn't tagged already (bless u, Hime for thinking of me, again ♡) but if anybody wants to just go for it and say that I tagged them, feel free! :3

10 Fandom, 10 Characters, 10 People
Thanks @moondal514 for the tag!
Rules: name 10 of your favourite characters from 10 different fandoms, then tag 10 people to do the same
This is an impossible task so I'm filling this up with how I'm feeling right now, impulsively, without thinking about it too hard. Ask me tomorrow it would be different. Also the order is arbitrary and means nothing.
1) Edward Elric from Fullmetal Alchemist
THEE original gender envy. The boy. I thought I wanted to be with him when really I wanted to be him. and kiss Winry. Manga of all time. What else is there to say.
2) Ellana from the Ewilan & Marchombres Series by Pierre Bottero
She's the best Marchombre that ever was. She writes poetry. She's hot. She has claws. She is my childhood hero and role model. She is the best Bottero character ever. I am in love with her.
3) The Biologist from The Southern Reach by Jeff VanderMeer
I don't know her name and I don't care. If the first tome wasn't from her perspective I probably wouldn't have been so invested. I would never want to fix her because whatever's wrong with her is way more interesting. I wanna go look at tide pools with her even though she'd hate that because she'd much rather be alone.
4) Joy Wang from Everything Everywhere All At Once
Honestly choosing just one character from this movie is impossible, but Joy telling her mother that she's just tired is Top 10 moments of cinema that made me burst into tears. Also: she's gay. Also: she's depressed. Also: what a fucking icon. Also: her costumes.
5) Dean Winchester from Supernatural
Choosing between him and Castiel is fucking impossible but I had to follow my heart of hearts and if I had to choose I knew I had to make this choice. It is very cringe of me to shun THEE gay angel like this and I am very ashamed of myself but he would agree with me, so. I had to. Dean is simply too deeply unwell in such specific ways that I cannot resist the brain worms. Although, without destiel? He would be nothing to me.
6) Captain K.P. Hobb from Dimension 20: A Court of Fey and Flowers
Tragic furry goblin man. His pathetic devotion to a court and its values in spite of their being drastically at odds with his honorable and rigid nature has bewitched me.
7) Fi Carmichael from Planetes by Makoto Yukimura
Everytime I re-read the arc that's centered on her and her family I sob like a little kid. Also she almost died to prevent a terrorist attack just because she wanted to smoke a cigarette.
8) Cliopher Mdang from the Lays of the Hearth-Fire by Victoria Goddard
Kip my best friend Kip. He invited the Sun on Earth, God-emperor of the world, to take a vacation, and it changed the fucking world. Number one most epic secretary ever. He has 50-something cousins. I want to be invited to one meal with him so bad, I just wanna talk to him like for 5 minutes, I know he's the busiest man in the Empire and also he's not real but like. Pretty please.
9) Sam Gamgee from the Lord of the Rings
THEE holder of hope for the whole trilogy. He's in gay love with Frodo and he can't carry the ring but he can carry him. I wish to kiss his forehead.
10) Andrew Minyard from All for the Game by Nora Sakavic
It's really hard to pick one character from this insane series but I mean. I had to.
