Seeing your reblog about the whole "can Phil express an opinion" lore, it just reminds me of how much i LOVE that Dan and Phil kept their tight, niche group of friends (with PJ, Sophie and Sean etc...) instead of hanging out with those "more popular, cloud-chasing youtubers". They are the people who are slightly nerdy, extremely creative and enjoy and love what they are doing. They take their time and share what they feel comfortable at different points at their lives and never sell their private lives for cash. It's just very endearing of them.

hi sorry it took me forever to answer this lol. yes I agree!! tbh I think it probably stems from the fact that they started YouTube so early that they weren't trying to get famous by doing it yk. like they kind of stumbled into fame. so they don't have that same attitude that some content creators have of just trying to get to the next follower milestone, and with that also comes not having like superficial friendships with ppl just bc you're both famous (or even like, genuine friendships that end in a falling out bc one person is jealous over the other's fame)

So because this mostly involves in-fandom drama and not dnp themselves im not going to refer to anyone by name (other than lemon since thats the name of the drama and also that isnt her real name and she disappeared anyway) because this was in 2018 so i can imagine ppl wanting to divorce from it.

So it is 2018. There is a friend group decently well-known in the phandom, one of them being lemon and the other someone I was subscribed to on YouTube because she made dnp-themed videos. This group was going to dnps meet n greet, and Lemon, who had made it known that she was pregnant to her friends and followers on twitter, decided to do a gender reveal of the baby at the meet n greet. So there's this video with dnp where they all excitedly say that It's a Boy!!

Lemon plans to name the baby Philip Daniel. This is not important to the story but it is important that I say that.

Anyway eventually lemon lets everyone know she delievered the baby. HOWEVER through a series of facts not aligning, poorly photoshopped pictures, and her refusing to let any of her friends see this baby irl it was deduced that this baby was most definitely fake.

AND THEN one of the friends decided to submit the story to Dr Phil mostly as a joke. But then the Dr Phil producers actually were really interested in the story and offered to fly out the group to be on the show. However, the producers wanted lemon to be on it and lemon refused, and that was literally the only thing stopping this story from being on Dr Phil

Lemon essentially went on the rampage when she realized everyone found out that Philip Daniel was not real, and she completely dissappeared from the internet after that.

So yeah. Someone faked a pregnancy and did the gender reveal at a meet and greet with dnp and the baby was fake THE WHOLE TIME. And the story was very close to being on Dr Phil. I think about it alot sometimes like what would it be like if phandom drama seeped into the mainstream like that. Like there could be people who would only know about Dan and Phil from a Dr Phil episode. Imo it's the most wild and also funny drama that happened

There are some ppl on phan tumblr who are so high horse in their beliefs and caustic in the way they talk. and i feel like the reason other people like them is bc they have bought into the superiority complex and think the bitchiness is cool or something, which is so antithetical to dan and phil and feels so immature and high school. Like a few days ago I think? I was at the vet and I complimented the vet assistant person's shoelaces and they were like. Thanks :) and I was like dang. I guess no Tumblr.

But THEN later I complimented their bracelet and they were like "it's the name of a formula one racer" and i was like "ohhh some of my tumblr mutuals or ppl I follow like that stuff" and they were like "oh i love tumblr" and i was like YO REAL??!!!! Turns out they just didn't process my question until after and then it was like. Oh shit that's right Tumblr code damn. Which is very poggers And also highlights that maybe the Tumblr code is actually very inefficient on a website full of people who usually forgor things or struggle to social???

chris stepped away from youtube because he wasn’t really doing what he wanted to do and he didn’t like that his audience was largely dnp’s audience who treated him as an extension of them, i imagine that made things tense between them. i know he tried to pursue acting independently after quitting youtube and got a couple bit roles and after that tried streaming for a bit, but i think he’s been completely silent for a while. chris doesn’t follow either of them on instagram and dan doesn’t follow chris (phil does though), not the best indicator of friendship but they were friends and did all follow each other so choosing to unfollow was a deliberate choice.

i agree with you a lot (saying this as a REALLY new phannie, ive only been here a few months). hugs.

i feel like just simply wondering if someone could be trans shouldnt necessarily be seen as 'creepy speculation', and i notice that in general (with other youtubers/celebs etc not just phan) that when fans question if they're outside of what is considered to be the 'norm' in any way (such as queer, trans, neurodivergent etc) people call them creepy, parasocial, etc. but the same is not done if fans automatically assume them to be cis, straight or neurotypical. i feel like ppl upset with dangender may possibly be seeing it incorrectly, thinking that people are saying 'because dan said/did this, that means he MUST be this' but i haven't seen a singular person who posts dangender act like that, and i follow a LOT of ppl. the vast majority of what i see isn't even speculation, it's just positivity and ppl being happy about things he said/did, and being happy that he's happy.

being trans myself, i actually feel really happy that ppl find comfort/happiness in the idea of dan being of the cisn't variety and see it as a positive and beautiful thing. in media and real life it feels like transphobia is really loud, but little things like seeing people celebrate it here is what keeps me going. i'm not personally someone who believes in the idea per se (to me dan is just dan whatever he is haha), but i like seeing people be positive about it.

of course, not everyone will fuck with stuff like dangender and they dont have to, but like you said blocking/blacklisting words is always the best way to go about that. because otherwise it can come across as demonising something that someone only does to find comfort in. my time on the internet has made me learn that it's not always a personal attack against you if they're doing something you either dont like or find uncomfy. in fact a lot of the time it's not. i say this very gently to ppl against it, a random internet user who posts dangender is not doing it to hurt you or dan.

but i'm still answering bc i especially love hearing from people with different phandom experiences & opinions from me 💛 AND because i know that so many people find joy and comfort in these kinda celebrations of whatever it is dan's doing.

i think you're really hitting the nail on the head w the creepy speculation thing—i've seen this reaction be especially strongest when it comes to speculation abt transness (esp transfemininity) and autism. it's a double standard! and it's coming from unexamined prejudice.

i think learning things aren't a personal attack is probably the most important possible piece here. over the years i've seen so many people behave poorly on phannie tumblr bc their feelings of validity in their personal identity were tied to their opinion of dan or phil's identity.

this was happening about sexuality labels before dnp came out, too—people used to get nasty about defending their bisexuality or gayness. and that pretty much always came from a lack of space between self identity and percieved identity of dnp.

i have a lot of compassion and understanding for people in that boat wrt dangender, you know? especially people younger than me. i used to run several queer support groups for young people, and every time someone was being hurtful with their views on gender it came from personal struggle.

i can't like, ignore it or let it slide, though. i love my kids from those groups to this day, but they didn't just hurt each other with some of their views. they really hurt me too. it makes it easy to spot when people are coming from the same perspective on here wrt dangender, even if it might be less overt and intentional shittiness.

i don't want to play dolls online with people who are in that kind of mindset! and that's why we love the block and mute functions of online.

& i also love finding & sharing joy on here about gender bc yeah! it fucking sucks most places. but we're home here 💛
