NICK FURCILLO ANALYSIS BECAUSE HES SO COOL AND MISCHARACTERIZED AND I LOVE HIM!!!!
Nick is not a “brooding secret bad boy who HATES women and is a PERVERT”. He is a nice boy from Australia that wants to make everyone happy. Yes, he is a plot device, but there’s still character there, and a lot of people overlook it because of his short screen time and the more interesting characters around him.
Nick is the perfect example of a people pleaser. He wants to make people laugh and be funny because he wants them to like him. He doesn’t open the door when Dylan closes it but apologizes to Jacob, he throws the phone because he thinks it’d be fun, he makes offhand comments during playful arguments but doesn’t join in, he can help Abigail with her bags, he goes along with the party because Jacob says he is- and that’s all in Chapter 1. He obviously doesn’t mean any actual harm- as shown when he profusely apologizes and swears he’ll pay for Jacob’s phone if he fails the QTE to catch it. The biggest example of this behavior is the campfire kiss. Nick has a crush on Abigail, but he wants to make everyone happy, so he goes along with the kiss. He doesn’t want to deal with conflict, but that’s what causes it. Also, Nick was drinking (which isn’t an excuse) so he probably wasn’t thinking straight when he did it.
It’s set up that Nick has a crush on Abigail but doesn’t really know how to approach her about it. He consistently needs nudges (literally) to act on it, but he obviously does care about her. He’s awkward and doesn’t know how to flirt- so he tries to imitate Jacob (or has the option to). He can jokingly ask her to draw him or he can compliment her, either way he obviously thinks highly of both her and her artwork and hobbies. Even while infected, his care for her shows through. The poolhouse scenes aside, Nick’s care for Abigail is shown constantly. He body slams a guy twice his weight for her, his objectives are constantly “protect Abigail”, even after he was attacked by a werewolf- the first thing he asked was if she was okay. (I am NOT condoning how he acted in the poolhouse btw, it was creepy and it was meant to be so. Im also not saying that Nick’s feelings toward Abigail while infected were always positive.)
From a character standpoint, Nick acting meaner while infected is probably caused by confusion, fear, and just not understanding the situation. He was attacked, probably in shock, and suddenly he feels things he doesn’t know how to handle. Unlike everyone else (besides Max when he first turned), Nick had no clue what was going on- didn’t know what werewolves were, didn’t know how the infection worked, and so he had much less time to mentally prepare for it. It isn’t “revealing his true nature”. He revealed his “true nature” when he was talking with Abigail in the woods, explaining that he acted like Jacob because he wanted people to like him and find him attractive because he didn’t feel like being himself was good enough. That is the true Nick, not infected Nick. Sadly, that moment usually gets overshadowed by the kiss and immediate werewolf attack, which is when he gets infected.
And from a gameplay perspective, Nick acted much meaner than the others because he’s the first person we see infected. We don’t know what’s going on, we don’t know anything about how they should act while infected. It’s setting that up. They chose the gentle guy who isn’t particularly outspoken and has a puppy crush because it was the best candidate to show the changes the infection caused. It’s meant to convey “nice character turns mean when bitten by this creature, that means that if you’re bitten your behavior is going to change.” This is shown in Max, Laura, and Emma as well. The only reason Nick acted out the most was to make sure the player understood that.
Using Dylan as a way to say that Nick is actually a super mean womanizer pervert is a flawed way of looking at the infection and Nick. Gameplay wise, Dylan has the option to not be infected. He has cutscenes that are the same even if he’s infected, he’ll act the same and say the same things. Nick does not have that option- he is always infected, always says the same things, always does the same things in the poolhouse. Screen time is a massive factor in this- Nick (not transformed) appears in 6 chapters, and only 2 of them are when he isn’t infected. In the other 4 chapters, Nick is shown to get more and more infected and acts accordingly. Dylan is in every single chapter (unless he transforms in chapter 9) and can be infected for 5 chapters at the most. He acts infected for 1 of them, which is the chapter he transforms. Again, this is because Dylan has cutscenes where he needs to act a specific way, infected or not. There is an obvious difference in screen time, which means there’s more time to get attached to and understand Dylan.
Also if I was infected with a virus that makes you literally explode, I wouldn’t act myself either. And hate who you want to hate, I just wanted to talk about Nick, this wasn’t trying to “convince you” or anything.
TLDR: Nick isn’t boring, people just don’t focus on him until the game forces you to- which is when he is infected with the werewolf explosion virus.

It reeks of “confession booth” and “religious elements” and “priest au” in here.

Okay, so I've seen things with people complaining about Ryan and Laura flirting and whatnot.
Dude.
It felt like they were taking jabs at each other in the sibling sense. Like, you can't die because only I'm allowed to kill you. I got pure sibling vibes from them.

ryan being the one to kill chris in the quarry is so sad and so overlooked. in general. their relationship is so overlooked. the games been out for two years now (happy anniversary, the quarry) and i still don’t see people talk about it enough. ryan had been going to the camp for years and respected chris so much. and ryan was his favourite and he was practically a mentor to him. just the fact ryan went to him with family issues and chris had helped him and- can you hear me sobbing
chris hackett: deceased
chris was killed when his favourite counsellor ryan shot him with silver
