I love my dad’s SIL to pieces so whenever I come over on the weekends I end up staying until really late, like 11 pm, just chatting and whatever. And when it’s time to leave she’s always like “Will you be alright getting home?” and I know it’s a valid concern because... you know, teenage girl walking alone at night and all that, but honestly? After walking alone at night to my aunt’s house when I still lived with her, I’m scared of nothing
#for context: aunt lives on the city outskirts#to the point that after taking the metro from the city center you have to take a bus and then walk half a kilometre from the bus stop#and a few times it was really late when I was coming home#okay I say really late but it was autumn so it got dark by 8#once on my birthday and another from my grandma’s place I think#irrelevant#anyways#the metro was fine the bus was fine#but the walk... oh that walk#no street lamps no people no places that are open late#just a long dark road lined with communal housing#and abandoned run down buildings#and look#I don’t have anything against communal housing#or the people that live there#but the stories my aunt and uncle told about the contingent of those places ended up getting to my head#okay? okay#so I’d walk along that creepy as shit road jumping at every noise and shadow#and sprint the second I was up the driveway to the apartment building#only feeling safe once I said good evening to the administrator lady#the worst part is#during the day I even had the balls to cut through the yards and parking lots of said communal housing#and walk the dogs on my own in a secluded field#and those dogs are pugs so they couldn’t have even done anything if something happened#holy shit I was fearless#now I live in a well lit populated area and the walk home from my dad’s SIL is two blocks up the street with no turns#my point is#I survived walking alone to my aunt’s in the dark#I can survive two blocks surrounded my street lights and 24 hour establishments

ok so. klara is v. corpo v specifically. the backstory stays. what shall i say. she's some kind of mix of netrunner and a solo i think. loves double barrel shotguns and precision rifles (specifically hypercritical) and throwable knifes. is also not afraid to use her fists. used electrifying mantis blades a lot. loves the quick and "deadly" quickhacks like synapse burnout and system collapse
klara also finds it hard to like. let go of some of her corpo lifestyle preferences. she only gets food from city center bc other places often give her stomach ache, still wears suits/typical office wear, constantly watching out for backstabbing and stuff like that. drinks coffee a bit too much.
she prefers riding bikes more than cars but uses both. sometimes ends up on the metro thing. her favorite radio stations r morro rock & vexelstrom. she also doesn't know the street jargon and sometimes goes "???" when someone says smth.
stole a coffee machine from her old arasaka apartment and brought it to the megabuilding flat.
toby's some kind of a top class netrunner who originally worked for biotechnica but then kinda leaked info about their unethical practices and dropped off the grid. wanted/on elimination list of most megacorporations bc it likes to 1) go through their files and do the same thing as it did w biotechnica or 2) slip some of their money to the poor ppl. nowadays it mostly stays in net for fun tho. sometimes it fucks around with the blackwall (the quencies...)
outside of net if you'd meet it you'd think it's just some guy (gender neutral) bc it's quite literally the embodiement of 🧍🏻 emoji (i mean. so is actual toby, but it's even more of that here bc its whimsy is almost gone. you know. constant florida toby mode on). it mostly does some little tasks in different night clubs or works as a "freelancer" for poor people or the moxes, mostly solving net related problems or running light gigs, and taking v little money for what it does. maybe sometimes is like a joytoy or something. who said that.
also gets tummy ache from most food and only ever eats at one (1) specific place that serves pierogi. mostly drinks a specific water brand. still doesn't touch alcohol
roach race kind of guy, really loves arcade games.
funny thing is they actually live in the same megabuilding but like. have never seen each other. probably.
canon story wise toby would show up sometime after the voodoo boys main quest. it is just sitting there in her flat when she walks in. first thing it does is say "your flat security is shit". klara thinks about just leaping at it with mantis blades bc who the fuck is that but decides it looks too pathetic for that.
anyway. it somehow probably noticed johnny and the biochip signatures in net or something, originating from the same building as it. could also be related to the blackwall thing i guess. toby basically goes "i know someone who may help but they're out of town" and klara's like "uh huh sure 🤨" and is like, basically "i'll see what's in this city first." and so she goes on w the questline and all but, like, toby's there helping out or something. maybe it's a bit lonely. sometimes they stay up late to talk abt random stuff and the whole chip problem. sometimes they also end up falling asleep together on the couch or bed. toby's also taking care of nibbles when klara goes somewhere. at some point they get really close.
toby gets into some kind of situation (like it always does) (most likely a life threatening one) and klara somehow manages to pull it out of there and toby's all like "🥺🥺 u didn't have to do that" and klara goes "of course i did i fucking love you you dumb idiot". teehee.
anyway. they move to the glen apartment at some point. and after klara goes through all the possible quests she's like "hm. what did you say about out of city help again". anyway. then we have the aldecaldos ending and they just contact this person toby knows who might help. and they do. yippee
that's all i have hehehehe
#coffee cup thoughts#not me doing literally anything but working on cynosure LMAO. i was thinking of tow au too few days ago#oc: tobias#oc: klara

I have a question/theory. No one besides Roxanne and Megamind knows that Metro Men is actually still alive. For all everybody else knows Megamind still murdered their hero.
Of course, Megamind saved them from Titan, and made amends by returning everything he stole and fixing the destroyed city but it still was all directly or indirectly his fault.
This brings me to my next point. No one except Megamind, Roxanne, Minion, and Hal himself knows that Titan was ''created'' by our favorite blue alien.
Do you think people might be angry when they somehow find out the truth? Maybe some Metro Man fanboy or fangirl will want to avenge the fallen hero?
Or are we to assume that people are just stupid and shallow and are just happy to have a new hero? Because if that's the case it's kind of sad from Metro Man's perspective. People only liked him because of his powers and looks. What do you think?
MEGAMIND FAN THEORY THURSDAY: Do People Think Megamind is a Murderer?
It’s time again for another Megamind Fan Theory! Special thanks, once again, to our unnamed contributor! Apparently, Anonymous is my biggest fan! LOL!
And now, even though Metroman threatens to frame me next every time I say it: SPOILER WARNING!
If you’ve seen the movie Megamind—and I sincerely hope you have—you already know that one of the biggest ways the film subverts common superhero tropes is by having the Bad Guy apparently win. Of course, we all know that Metroman didn’t really die in the Death Ray blast, but the question is: do people in Metro City know it, too? After all, most or all of the citizenry thought they saw their former hero perish on a live stream. Do they, therefore, still believe their new Defender is guilty of murder? And if so, shouldn’t that affect the way they perceive him? There are entire reams of fan theories examining such questions. Let’s jump into a few of the most popular!
It’s Almost Certain Some People Know Metroman is Alive
The first fan theory centers on the simple fact that Megamind is not locked away in a high-security prison. His ability to take up the mantle of Defender and move about the city freely indicates that he very probably received a full pardon. That brings up the question of whether defeating one supervillain would truly be enough to counteract a first-degree murder charge and eighty-three live sentences. Most fans say no, leading to the supposition that there must have been some sort of trial and subsequent pardon. As a result, many believe that some high-ranking government officials and judges, at least, must be aware that Metroman remains very much alive.
They may not be the only ones. Another popular concept among fans is that Megamind’s reality, like the comics it lampoons, could boast a wide variety of heroes and villains. (It’s not a far fetched assumption; as mentioned in Where Did the Doom Syndicate Come From, we know that there are supposed to be other supervillains in Megamind’s world. It therefore seems probable that there would be other superheroes as well.) In fact, more than a few fans subscribe to the headcanon that a heroic organization exists, offering mutual support and help to caped protectors as needed. Over time, the Megamind fandom has invented several potential titles for this group. One of my personal favorites is the Defenders’ League—a name which plays on DC Comics’ Justice League and thus maintains the original film’s spirit of toying with existing superhero tropes. For the sake of simplicity, that is how I will refer to this association.
Why am I bringing it up? As you may have guessed, many fans theorize that at least some members of the Defenders’ League know their former compatriot didn’t really meet his end. However, there are differing opinions upon exactly how many of them are aware of this fact. Some suggest that Defenders, like their Justice League counterparts, are likely cognizant of a great number of each others’ secrets, up to and including their identities and hideouts. They argue that it therefore seems reasonable to assume most or all of the League would have been apprised of the Metroman situation. As possible evidence, supporters of this theory point to the fact that other heroes aren’t coming out of the proverbial woodwork to avenge their supposedly fallen comrade.
Nonetheless, others disagree. The second—and possibly more popular—supposition is that, while a few leaders within the Defenders’ League know the truth, others may be in the dark. Those who prefer this concept argue that Metroman’s abandonment of his duties would almost certainly have been frowned upon, adding that the former hero would likely have found himself either faced with some sort of disciplinary action or pressured into taking up the role of protector for a new city. After all, such powerful Defenders can hardly be common, and it seems extremely doubtful that Superhero is a job one could easily quit. Indeed, during discussions with other fans such as CrazyDreamer6, the possibility has arisen that other Defenders may initially neither like nor trust Megamind. It’s even been suggested that an especially antagonistic hero or two might attempt to sabotage the blue man’s efforts, believing their action to be either punishment for Metroman’s alleged fate or a means to uncovering Megamind as a presumed fraud.
Whatever the case may be, all of this still does not necessarily mean that the general public would be privy to Metroman’s continued existence. It’s highly unlikely that the Defenders’ League would make that fact widely known even if they were all privy to it. (Imagine the backlash and potential public relations nightmare that might ensue if people realized a Defender had simply walked off the job!) Furthermore, another Megamind fan theory suggests that, as a former supervillain, the blue man’s hearing may have been far more similar to a military tribunal than a civilian court case. This is important because it means the Megamind’s trial may have been far less public and far more secretive. Some argue that this indicates it’s unlikely most ordinary citizens would be aware that Metroman’s supposed murder was proved to be a farce. People would certainly be aware that he had been pardoned, but they might not know all of the reasons why.
Would Metroman Even Want His “Death” to Be Questioned?
This is where another Megamind fan theory comes into play. Some contend that, even if various officials did not choose to disclose it, citizens may have become aware that Metroman was alive because he himself may have told them. In several fictions, the former Defender is portrayed as coming forward, announcing his official retirement, and sometimes even helping his new blue replacement to learn the ropes. Such would definitely be the noble, honest thing to do—and aren’t those two traits superheroes are supposed to personify? Besides, many fans also point out that there appears to be an odd friendship between Megamind and his rival. There seems to have been a “time out” agreement, indicating that their battles may have been more like games and public shows. Additionally, Metroman calls the blue super-genius “Little Buddy.” That hardly seems like a sincerely antagonistic relationship. So it’s conceivable that the former Defender might have come forward to clear his replacement’s name.
Many fans, however, argue that such a thing may not have been possible for the same reasons that the majority of the Defenders’ League may not have been informed. It doesn’t seem particularly likely that people would react well to learning that their trusted and beloved local hero had left them in the hands of a know supervillain so that he go start a music career. Furthermore, it’s possible that the former Defender could have been harassed by rising villains eager to prove their worth as well city governments desperate for a hero of their own. Nonetheless, many suggest that Wayne Scott may have had excellent reasons for hanging up his cape. In the post Why Did Metroman Retire, we examined evidence that Metro City had become too dependent upon having a superpowered Defender around, leading to laxness in law enforcement and constant demands on the white-clad alien. (For example, one unused storyboard shows police refusing to assist in even a small way because they are “on break” as well as an old woman calling for Metroman’s help because she can’t open a jar.) As a result, the former hero may have become not only disenchanted with his role, but also stressed, exhausted, and mentally strained. Some have even proposed that he may have been nearing a breakdown, making his decision to quit a necessary one for his psychological health.
This leads to a supposition which answers one of our anonymous contributor’s questions. Many believe that, if most people still believe Metroman to be dead, it is because the former hero himself wants it that way. Far from being sorrowful about others’ reactions to his supposed demise, he may feel relieved. Imagine the guilt he might experience if people continued to mourn him or harmed Megamind because they believed he was guilty. Keep in mind that, as discussed in previous blog articles, we see the young Wayne Scott being essentially groomed to become a superhero during the school scene. (You can read more about that in the aforementioned post as well as The Warden.) Thus it seems likely that Metroman may not want his faked death to be disbelieved because he feels being supposedly dead is the only way to free himself from the role he was pushed into from childhood.
However, the choice may not have been up to him. There are some competing Megamind fan theories concerning whether or not the general public would believe Metroman was truly gone. Interestingly, both are based upon the character’s inspirations.
The first supposition points to the fact that Metroman is a clear parody of Superman. Clark Kent, as many of you likely know, hides his alternate identity by donning ordinary clothes and a pair of glasses. Some fans contend that, if Megamind’s reality functions similarly to the DC universe, then it’s unlikely Music Man would ever be recognized as being a former Defender. After all, if eyewear is enough to make Superman unrecognizable, then growing a beard would certainly do the trick. Others, however, dispute this, saying that while Clark Kent puts a great deal of effort into maintaining his persona as a quiet newspaper journalist, purposefully fading into the background as much as possible, Wayne Scott’s choice of career—rock star—puts him squarely in the public eye. Making himself the center of attention significantly increases his chances of being recognized.
The second fan theory draws on the other major influence of Metroman: Elvis Presley. As covered in Why Does Megamind Wear Black, the King of Rock and Roll inspired everything from Metroman’s look to the song he plays at his museum opening. Some have expanded upon this to suggest that people may have reacted similarly to the former hero’s supposed demise as they did to that of Elvis. For decades following Presley’s funeral, many of his fans insisted that he was not really dead and Elvis sightings popped up all over the place. Could Metroman’s dedicated aficionados have done the same, claiming to catch glimpses of their icon? If so, some of them were probably right. In short, it’s quite plausible that many citizens may not have believed Metroman was really deceased no matter what they had been told.
Psychology and Superheroes
What about those who actually do believe the former Defender to be gone? Given what we’ve discussed so far, it seems reasonable to suppose that there may be more than a few who fall into this category. If so, wouldn’t they be furious that Megamind could, apparently, commit murder on live TV and still not only get away with it but also be hailed as a hero? To answer that, let’s delve into a little psychology.
According to an article by Dr. Charlie Ebersole on Psychology Today, hero worship can be complicated and potentially problematic. When we look up to someone, we have a tendency to view them differently. “Heroes can be great,” Ebersole explains. “They can inspire us to be better versions of ourselves. However, they can also blind us to their faults.” Just as people were happy to overlook Metroman’s frankly braggartly behavior—just look at the museum opening scene near the beginning of the movie and you’ll see what I mean—they may be willing to forget about Megamind’s shaded past. Some might even make peace with the supposed blood on his hands if they looked up to him enough, and given that he literally saved the entire city from death and destruction, that’s not beyond the realm of possibility. To quote novelist Terry Pratchett, “You can be excused for just about anything if you are a hero because no one asks inconvenient questions.”
It doesn’t stop there, however, because Megamind isn’t only a hero, he’s also a celebrity. Another article, this one from Long Island Psychology, addresses how fame affects the way we perceive people. Society sometimes makes greater allowances for those who are well-known icons. For example, celebrities sometimes receive less severe punishments for infractions than an average citizen might. Of course, people can also judge those they admire very harshly, feeling a sense of betrayal any time that individual doesn’t live up to the nearly perfect standards they have created for them. However, if that same public feels they are getting enough out of their perceived parasocial relationship with a celebrity, they may entirely overlook any bad behavior. The article states that “even if their actions have run counter to their public persona or were illegal in some way, some celebrities are still able to overcome the backlash they may face.”
This really comes down to three things: the aforementioned parasocial relationship, charisma, and marketing. (Yes, I said marketing. We’ll get to that in just a moment.) Firstly, as I’ve said, Megamind saved Metro City, and it’s frankly doubtful whether most of its citizens know that Titan was the result of a misjudgment on the blue man’s part to begin with. (I think it’s also important to mention here that Megamind certainly didn’t want to create a dangerously superpowered man-child and seemed sincerely distraught when Titan turned evil. He truly thought the human was destined for heroism. You can read more about that in Why Did Megamind Choose Hal.) Regardless, the fact is that many citizens of Metro City owe the blue man their lives and presumably enjoy his continued protection. Thus it’s obvious that they are definitely getting a lot out of the parasocial relationship.
Secondly, it can’t be denied that Megamind is charismatic. He knows how to put on a good show and play to a crowd. (Just look at the scene where he finally becomes the new Defender if you want proof.) Furthermore, as seen throughout the movie, Megamind can be charming, funny, and kind. It’s hard not to like the alien genius, and that has likely helped him to win over the masses. The fact that he sincerely cares about the city and all its people, as evinced by the fact that he chose to overcome Titan rather than fleeing, probably helps as well. People often instinctively know when someone legitimately has their best interests at heart.
Finally, there is the marketing aspect to consider. That may sound a little odd, but hear me out. The aforementioned article states: “some celebrities are forgiven by the media, and the media’s reaction to the event shapes the future. If the celebrity is still placed in front of you on a daily basis and placed in a positive light, it becomes easier to forget about their past.” Essentially, it is possible to market a person, rebranding them in a more favorable light. This is important for two reasons. Firstly, as I said before, Megamind clearly cares about the people around him. That doubtlessly makes him a dedicated and earnest Defender, and people are likely to recognize that. Additionally, if they also see him performing acts of heroism in the media over and over again, that will have a natural effect on the way they perceive him.
Speaking of media, the second aspect of this is the simple fact that Megamind is clearly romantically involved with Roxanne Ritchi, and she happens to be a well-known television news journalist. She’s also one of the very few people whom we know for certain is aware that Megamind didn’t really murder Metroman. (In fact, according to the DVD commentary, he always went out of his way not to physically harm anyone even while he was a supervillain. The creators describe him engaging in no worse than theft and vandalism during his brief tenure as “Evil Overlord,” as well as staging his plots in unpopulated areas. Even his preferred setting on his De-Gun, Dehydrate, is nonlethal.) One popular fan theory suggests that, because Roxanne knows all of this and because she loves Megamind, she may have helped to sway public opinion in his favor. Furthermore, it’s plausible that, as a reporter, she may not have been able to pass up a juicy scoop like Metroman faking his own death. However, many fans believe that, if her lover and his former nemesis asked her to keep it quiet, she would. Either way, she would certainly have the skills and opportunities necessary to help Megamind “market” his new image. Of course, this doesn’t mean that it’s not possible some people would still dislike and distrust the Blue Defender, but it would certainly help him to be better accepted.
So, are there people in Metro City who still believe Megamind is guilty of murder? It’s possible, though that may depend on whether Metroman or government officials were willing to let the truth come out. Could such an assumption color the way he is viewed? It most certainly could. However, it’s also likely that even some of those who did believe in the blue man’s guilt may have gradually come to forgive him, especially since he was likely pardoned. Still, most agree that the answer is probably a combination of all of the above ideas, and suppose that the former villain may have to work through some complicated public relations issues in his early days as Defender. Perhaps the upcoming series, Megamind’s Guide to Defending Your City, will shed new light on that. Until then, we have plenty of fan theories to choose from! That ends this post! Thank you for reading this week’s Megamind Fan Theory Thursday!

Did Somebody Say "Chocolate"?
Hey everyone! This past week, I was in Argentina yet again! This time, my friends and I traveled south in Argentina to a town called Bariloche. Bariloche is located within the Nahuel Huapi National Park and is the gateway to Patagonia. It is the perfect destination for those who love the outdoors, as the multiple ski resorts allow you to ski throughout the Andes, and the abundant lakes are key spots for fishing and kayaking. Bariloche also has a lively downtown area with architecture modeled after Switzerland. As you can imagine, I was beyond excited to go from the moment that my friends and I booked our plane tickets!
On Tuesday in the afternoon, my friends and I took the bus from Montevideo to Colonia and then rode the ferry to Buenos Aires. Upon arriving, we changed our dollars for Argentine pesos ($1 USD = 480 pesos), loaded our Sube cards (passes that you scan to use the metro and buses in Argentina), and then went to an Asian restaurant called Koi. There, we feasted on Miso ramen and dumplings. I ordered an iced tea, something that I’ve missed since being away from South Carolina! It really is astounding the diversity that Buenos Aires has in terms of gastronomy; any type of craving you might have, Buenos Aires has a restaurant to satisfy it. Because our flight was late at night, we killed some more time in another bar/bookstore called Backroom Bar. After enjoying our Passionfruit Punch drinks and chatting, we headed to the airport via Uber. Our flight left at 1:00 a.m., and we arrived in Bariloche at 3:30 a.m. Because the town doesn’t have Uber, we booked taxis in advance to take us from the airport to our Airbnb. Our host was there to give us the keys and show us around the apartment, and then we headed straight to bed to catch up on sleep.
Later that morning, Will, Karen, and I bundled up (it was about 39 ℉ outside) and roamed around the centro of Bariloche (our Airbnb was a 7-minute walk from downtown). Bariloche is set right along the lake of Nahuel Huapi, so we of course had to take pictures in front of the “Bariloche” letters with the stunning backdrop behind it. We then went to a confitería (chocolate shop) called Rapa Nui to have breakfast. Bariloche is known as the Chocolate Capitol of Argentina, so at Rapa Nui, I ordered a chocolatada (hot chocolate). Karen, Will, and I also shared a waffle topped with chocolate, banana, raspberry, and strawberry ice cream. Needless to say, I was sugared-out after breakfast, but it was worth every bite. We then went to the Center of Tourist Information to ask about the bus system and must-visit sites in Bariloche. The bus lines in the city are on a tightly set schedule, and some buses only arrive every hour. We therefore had to plan our activities around the schedule so we didn’t waste time waiting for the bus. The upside is that one bus ride is 100 pesos, or 20 cents. We definitely were traveling on a budget!
After returning from the Information Center, our other friends, Joe and Cleo, joined us to take the bus to Cerro Campanario. There, we took the ski lift to arrive at a lookout point where you could see majestic views of Southern Bariloche. The mountains reminded me of the Rocky Mountains in Colorado where I used to live, except the Andes are encapsulated by lakes and islands. Bariloche’s climate is unique in that in the winter, temperatures can drop to -30℉, and in the summer, you can expect the temperature to climb to 75℉. As I was standing at the top looking out at the islands, I could only imagine what it would be like in December to lay out on the sand and take a dip in the crystal-clear lake. I also noticed that the mountains were pretty barren in terms of snow. A local told us that Bariloche gets the most snow in July and August, so that explained why the ski resorts were closed when we went. After taking the lift down and the bus back, we bought groceries in the supermarket and made lentil soup and peppers stuffed with rice, perfect for our cozy movie night that we had that evening.
On Thursday morning, Karen and I woke up early to scout the tourist agencies to see what excursions were available. We picked up a lot of brochures, compared prices, and explained our options to the others at breakfast. I had coffee and tostados at ChimiDeli, a restaurant that one of the tourist agents had recommended. All five of us then shared a chocolate mousse cake adorned with strawberries. Here arise my two tips when traveling: 1. If you don’t know where to eat, ask a local! They are guaranteed to have good recommendations, and it saves a lot of time instead of poking around on Google Maps and peering at reviews of restaurants. 2. If you want to try different types of cuisine, order multiple dishes and share with your friends! This way, you can have a bite of everything without feeling confined to ordering one meal.
After breakfast, we headed to the Chocolate Museum at Havanna and went on a tour! The guide explained to us that pure chocolate comes from the cacao bean, and in the early centuries, pure chocolate was exchanged by indigenous groups as a form of currency. It was also served as offerings to the gods, or high-ranking authorities in the communities. In Europe, people began to mix cacao with sugar and milk, transforming the cacao chocolate into the milk chocolate that we know today. After World War II, a large surge of Italians immigrated to Bariloche, including a man named Alfred Fenoglio. The so called “pioneer of chocolate in Bariloche” started the first chocolatería in Patagonia, and he is known to be the source of the boom of chocolaterías in Southern Argentina that generate millions of dollars in revenue annually. Who would’ve thought! As we strolled through the museum, we drank our samples of hot chocolate and saw life-sized animals pertaining to Bariloche that were carved entirely out of chocolate! Count how many times I wrote “chocolate” in this post 😉
The gang and I then went to Cerro Otto to take the gondola up to another lookout point. The view was once again spectacular, and we got our fair share of group selfies before heading down to catch the bus back to the center. When we were in line for the bus, there was a man that was playing the bandoneon, an instrument similar to the accordion that is found in most tango music (tango was born in Argentina and Uruguay). Playing the bandoneon is one of the main ways that Argentines connect to their roots and keep the culture alive, so I gave him a tip and enjoyed the tunes before boarding the bus. Once in the centro, we went to another chocolate shop called Mamuschka! Mamuschka is iconic for its rotating Russian dolls on the outside of the building and its wrapping paper being adorned with the colorful Russian doll logo. I couldn’t help myself and filled a box with different chocolate assortments, including ositos- little bears that are filled with dulce de leche. I also got chocolate bars for friends and family and immediately put them away when I got home so as not to be tempted to sneak a bite! After Mamuschka, my friends and I stopped in a supermarket to get ingredients to make sandwiches for our full-day excursion the next day. Then, we had dinner in a cervecería called Bachmann! I had passed by the restaurant earlier that day, and I made it a priority to dine there, as my last name is Bachmann! At the restaurant, we had burgers and beer from Patagonia, and the waitress gave me some coasters with the “Bachmann” logo on it. I kept cracking jokes that it was the family restaurant in Bariloche. We spent several hours there laughing and enjoying each other’s company before heading home to rest for another big adventure the next day.
Part II coming soon! Ciao!

📢Psychonauts NSR AU, Chapter 9: VS. 1010📢
After that rap battle that basically had Sasha cut ties with his father. The duo went to speak to Gristol.
“Hey Gristol! We’re back!” Milla spoke. She looked at a massive pile of papers besides Gristol. “Woah… that’s a huge pile of notes. What’ve you got for us Gristol?” She asked.
“Oh this one involves a lot of legwork.” Gristol said as turned on the screen. This time, it shows five people. All of them were robotic and had lights in different colors and they wore soldier-like outfits. The one in the center was thin and had blue lights, the one on the right was fat and had yellow lights, the one on the left was tall and had green lights, the one between the yellow and the blue was muscular and had purple lights, and the one between the green and blue was small and the only girl had red lights. Over them were their names from left to right: Boyd, Edgar, Cal, Gloria, and Fred. “Introduce the spiffiest band around the city right now: 1010.” Gristol explained.
“Oh I’ve seen them, they're… shiny.” Sasha pointed out.
“And they look quite handso— I mean, inhuman. They look quite inhuman.” Milla responded with some slight blushing.
“1010 is NSR’s robotic boy band, complete with the looks, style and the moves.” Gristol explained. “The size of their fanbase is simply astounding. Security for them is tight.” Gristol explained some more.
“I can imagine that.” Sasha responded.
“So if we break into their concert we’ll get arrested? How are we going to take them down?” Milla asked.
“Don’t worry about it, they’re on tour. I’ve found a certain spot where your paths meet. It’s in Metro Division.” Gristol explained. “With some effort on your end, you’ll be on their flying limousine in no time.” He explained.
“You mean… we get to ride on their limo too?” Milla asked with a smile.
“Milla?” Sasha asked with confusion.
“I mean… let’s go!” Milla replied.
“Good luck you two!” Gristol responded as he waved Sasha and Milla goodbye.
~
When Milla and Sasha arrived in Metro Division, they saw how it looked. There was a bunch posters of 1010 all around. Needless to say, Milla was in awe.
“This must be the place.” Sasha said.
“How do you know?” Milla asked. Sasha pointed to the amount of fans behind the gate.
“Oh…” Milla responded.
“Let’s go.” Sasha spoke.
“Let’s do this.” Milla replied.
~
When they arrived on the limo. They saw 1010 posing. Milla was prepared…
“Your flying circus ends now, 1010!” Milla proudly announced. There was no response. “Uh… we’re here to stop you!” Milla spoke, again no response. “Hello?” Milla asked. Suddenly, the blue robot named Cal turned to her.
“Look, everybody. Our one true love is finally here. Let’s be the ideal lovers and give her our utmost attention.” Cal spoke.
“What?” Milla asked with slight annoyance.
“ATTENTION.” Cal spoke as he saluted. (As well as the other robots.)
“Uh… why are we saluting?” Milla asked.
“I don’t know.” Sasha responded.
“We salute you for gracing us with your exotic beauty.” The red robot named Gloria spoke.
“Your lustrous hair.” The purple robot named Edgar spoke.
“Your beautiful gaze.” The green robot named Fred spoke.
“Even your lips which form that radiant smile.” The yellow robot named Boyd spoke.
“Our breaths are stifled.” Cal explained. To which all of the other robots said stifle in sync.
“Hah, cute. But do you really think that you can sway Milla’s heart like that easily. She’s never going to fall for these cheap compliments. Right Milla?” Sasha chuckled. Milla didn’t respond. “Milla?” Sasha asked. He saw why Milla didn’t respond… …she was in love.
“Yes Sasha?” Milla said while being dazed in love. “You’re just saying that cause all of these guys are fawning over me.” Milla smiled.
“Milla, now’s not the time.” Sasha spoke.
“Did you hear what they said about my lips?” Milla giggled. Sasha immediately looked at 1010 in horror.
“What have you done to her 1010? You made her into a crazy fangirl!” Sasha asked in horror.
“Heh… seems that haters are gonna hate.” Cal chuckled. “When we show up, we get the sexy mission done. You better put on your thermal goggles because… …we’re gonna bring the heat!” He explained as he posed. The battle was definitely on.
~
“Aaah! They’re hot and sexy!” Milla screamed in excitement.
“Milla!” Sasha responded.
“What?” Milla asked. As she narrowly dodged a laser.
“You got distracted by them!” Sasha responded. As he strucked Gloria on the head.
“It’s not my fault that they’re sexy!” Milla explained as she strucked Cal’s head off.
“It will be if you get distracted by them!” Sasha replied as he breaks Cal’s body apart. Suddenly the two saw a giant machine flying by, with a man controlling it. He dressed up like a general, and had a robotic cyborg-like right eye.
“What was that?” Sasha asked.
“Intruders!” The man shouted as he landed the machine.
“Where?” Milla asked. “Oh. Us.” She spoke as she realized. “Who… who are you?” She asked.
“I am Captain Oleander, the manager of 1010. You mess with mu troops, you mess with me! 1010 never surrenders!” The man introduced himself. “Deploy! Maintain operation party all night!” He ordered as he activated the unknow machine which spawns… another Cal robot?
“Wh… what the hell?” Sasha asked.
“Baby… I’m electrifying!” Cal responded as he pointed to rock duo.
“Electrifying!” The other robots sang in unison. Activating their shields.
~
“There’s no use, they keep coming! We’re better off chilling with these handsome robots and checking out their crib and after that we can have a jacuzzi party with them and—”
“We must defeat that robot.” Sasha said as he pointed to Captain Oleander.
Milla reluctantly agreed, but decided it was for the best. She tried breaking one of the shields. But to no avail. Then she saw a purple light, and parried it against Gloria. That was her plan, parry the lights.
Sasha did that too, but with Fred. Causing him to break.
“Milla! Use your guitar!” Sasha spoke.
“Got it!” Milla replied as she activated her guitar, turning into a mechanical arm.
“How… how will that help?” Sasha asked.
Suddenly, they arrived at the stop. And saw Oleander respawning Fred and noticed that the robotic arm threw balls at him, causing the machine to break a bit.
And noticed that when they pose, they get their shields back up by the cheering fans. That was the strangest way it worked.
Fortunately the robotic arm broke the giant machine completely.
“Fire in the battery aft! Mayday! Mayday!” Captain Oleander shouted. Suddenly, the machine exploded. Causing the insides of 1010 to be revealed.
“Baby… I’m electrifying!” Cal responded in a distorted tone.
“Electrifying!” The other robots sang in unison.
~
“Oh no! They’re no longer handsome and sexy and gentlemanly and—”
“Good.” Sasha smiled. As he dodged.
The two waited when they arrived at their stop. Hearing the screams of horror from fans caused them to explode.
“Good. I think that’s that.” Sasha smiled. But suddenly, Captain Oleander came crashing in. “Nevermind.” Sasha spoke.
“As long as the flag of rhythm stands, I will keep on fighting! Commencing All Kill Protocol! For NSR!” Captain Oleander spoke as he activated the machine. Which turned upside down and began dancing.
~
Captain Oleander sent in several attacks.
One attack had him jumping up and summoning red claws and landing on Sasha and Milla who dodged.
Another attack involved him swinging a giant purple hammer. Which spawned some ammo to which Milla and Sasha picked up.
Another attack had him using a green sword. Which he swung.
And a final attack had him summoning bombs which were yellow and had ammo.
After that, Milla and Sasha launched the ammo at Captain Oleander. Causing him to be defeated.
“There’s only one thing left to do Milla.” Sasha told the guitarist.
“I don’t know if I can do this… but I’ll try!” Milla said with a frown. She set her guitar on attack mode, while Zuke prepared his drum sticks.
“BUNKA”
“JUNKA”
“SHAKALAKA-BAM!” they shouted. Causing a blue light to attack at the general. Which caused him to fall.
~
“You… you got me, soldier. You got me good!” Captain Oleander coughed. “Go ahead, finish the job!” He ordered. Milla and Sasha looked confused.
“Uh… we’re not here to finish you—”
“I know you sent DJ CCC out to space. I know you unplugged Raz. I know you broke Lili’s piano! You’re here for my factory, aren’t you? Just do it then! Do iiiiiit!” Captain Oleander yelled.
“Wh… what are you talking about? We just want to—”
“Fine! Go ahead and break my troops! But know that you’ll never break my spirit!” Captain Oleander coughed.
“Does… does he want us to kill his own boy band?” Sasha asked with worry.
“And why is he coughing?” Milla asked.
“Because I am a cyborg!” Captain Oleander shouted.
“I’m coughing up the blood… the blood that spilled from my mouth. I do it for NSRRRRRRRR!”
“Okay then… I think we’re going home… right now.” Milla spoke as she slowly left with Sasha following her.
“Home? I remember what home was like. I dream of a day where the children can run innocently on the streets again, their eyes glittering with jubilation. So I made a promise to myself. A promise to bring peace back to my people. And until that day comes, I vow to serve this city with my utmost dedication. Because that is who I am. I got soul. I am a soldier. Oh, what have I become? I have… changed so much. The things that I have done in the name of NSR, I would not wish it to my worst enemy. When I—” but before Captain Oleander finished his monologue. He noticed that Sasha and Milla were walking away. “Hey! I’m talking to you two! Where are you going?! Do you think what you’re doing is right?! What is it that you guys fight for? What is that you guys want?!” Captain Oleander asked several times.
“Uhm… I wouldn’t mind for a signed poster of 1010–”
“Milla.” Sasha pointed out.
“Ok ok ok.” Milla responded as the two continued to leave.
“Hold on! I have not reached the part about my deployment to the Azkar Faction in ‘68! It was unforgiving journey through the rdiges of Kewan. The chill was enough to brittle the spirit of any battle hardened warrior. As I trudged through the mountains with onky my compass and the parachute on my back…” Captain Oleander continued to monologue, but Milla and Sasha couldn’t hear it. As they left to the sewers.
#submission#nsr#psychonauts#othau#othfic#noart#was gonna queue this up for later#but i think valentine's day is good#for this update#lol#also#love the weapons you changed for the oleander/neon battle#and honestly#i forgot that oleander was swapped with neon j#so when i read it i was so happy!#he fits so well!#and loboto being rin is also a really good touch!#good writing

Cemetery Reviews #10 - Gardens of the Memory
Why do I even review cemeteries? Do you know why? That's something I asked myself a lot today. See, of all the cities in the world without a metro, this is the biggest. 12 million people, and no metro, and sure, the saying goes, small town, big hell, but I say, big city with no trains means hell on earth. I'm gonna yap for a while but I promise I'm building something up with it.
After going to the more modest cemeteries in the South I said I would go to the North and check the ones at the edge of the city, they looked in the map like they had a lot more green on them, since I live in the South, I knew it would take me a while... but it wasn't just a time consuming venture, it was also a pain in my ass.
I get out of bed and I think... why do I review cemeteries? I fool around on bed from 8 to 9 am, then I decide I want to go, I get called to send some papers for a work transfer I have, I spend an hour on that, at 10 am leave and I wait on the bus stop, and I wait... and I wait but the bus doesn't arrive. It's not just that, my bus doesn't arrive, all the other routes that pass through that bus stop passed like 20 fucking times. I said, okay, you got to be kidding me, I check the app trying to find the bus, the app is a load of shit, it is stuck, it doesn't refresh positions, it's a mess. By 12 pm I said, fuck it, I'm gonna have lunch here or I will be hungry all the way, I eat, I leave, and then by 1 pm I go to the bus stop again. I end up taking the wrong bus, it was my mistake, the second time I looked at the app I picked the wrong place at the destination and of course, I got in just happy that I wouldn't have to wait for that god damn forsaken bus that never came. I got out of the bus a bit closer to the north, I then walk 15 minutes towards the highway and I wait for a new bus. Thankfully, this time the right bus arrives, and I get inside.
And I have to poo, really bad. So I hold myself for like an hour, but of course, I say, I can't hold it forever, I get out in a place I see that looks like a mall, but it's not a mall, it's some sort of commercial center and residential bullshit so I walk putting all the pressure I can on my butt cheeks and I walk up a coffee store, thankfully, they allowed me to use the bathroom first, there was no water in that toilet so you can bet I'm never stepping foot in that place. I buy something, I leave and I wait for the bus, then it's just waiting for me to arrive, the cemetery closes at 4 PM, it's 3:10 PM, I say, I won't be able to see shit, and I get sad.
The bus went up to the north, then more and more up to the north, the houses looked wealthier, the streets wider, the green zones spread more and more. The neighborhoods were so wealthy that there were kids leaving school at 3 PM and going home in a school bus, you know, American style. There were some communes at the east over the mountains, but most of the north is very wealthy, and very green. We passed by the north terminal, the north portal, until all traces of civilization disappeared little by little, until the only thing left was the long, long highway between the green fields that went towards the north of the country, and my hometown. You won't see any cities for a long while, so in practical terms, this is the end of the map for this city, and the furthest you can go with the city buses. I got out and I said, sure, this was shit, but now I just have to walk a bit, I get to the cemetery, and the whole street is blocked due to construction.
I think those white columns are part of the entrance, but it looked hard to enter and by that point it was almost 3:30 PM. I said, dude, this shit was not worth it, let's bail. I I left and I took the bus to the north portal. Since the city ends there, what those buses do is take the return point and go back through the opposite lane.
That cemetery hid itself so much of me that I don't think I want to ever go and review it, it's like it was mocking me, like it didn't want me. Well, if it doesn't want me there, so be it. I don't care about that one anymore. I asked myself, what the hell am I doing this shit for? Why? Like what is the point?
There is none, it's just bullshit, bullshit to get me out of bed, but when it is such a pain in the ass it just makes me say, this is not worth the money, or the time, I am getting older as I speak and wasting my days off on this is not worth the time, the city is not worth the time.
However, there was another cemetery at the other side of the highway, going back to the city already, and that is the one I reviewed today.
I got out, and I said, well I'm already here and this one closes at 5 PM, so might as well take a look, right?
This is another green cemetery, as in, it works almost as a park and all tombs are surrounded by lots and lots of grass. One thing I realized is how fortunate the Gardes of Apogee in the South is, it is not only full of green but is also in the middle on the city. Any other cemetery that wants to do the same has to go through this procedure, go way to the end of the earth so they can have enough green spaces. For that I feel the rating is going to suffer a bit, it is not the cemetery's fault, but well, what can you do.
This cemetery is probably a bit more recent and has this annoyingly modern aesthetic, it tries to look "chick" or something, and it adds lots of white, the chapel looks alright (thanks to the stained glass windows) but then you look at the other stuff and it doesn't look that good.
Don't you think this statue is annoyingly minamilistic? Like, I get the idea they are going for but reducing the parts of a symbol to their most basic and recognizable elements does not work here as much I think it could. I mean they just made the guy thinner and removed his cross, what do you want me to say?
There is a giant book as well here, I remember another giant book in the Gardens of Apogee Cemetery, this one has The Lord's Prayer in it.
Ironically it looks better from behind, since it has this cross and design shaped with stones, but most people will never see this part of the monument.
There are some columbariums like this in the cemetery. What do you think? Personally, while I feel the execution falls a bit short (something about creating these shapes with their own special compartments can be pretty hard I imagine) I do like the idea. They remind me a bit of honeycombs, perhaps also with a different color and texture they would look a lot more sublime.
There was also a bigger chapel further into the cemetery which I liked. This I think mixes well the classical elements with the more modern aesthetic, it's weird, sure, but that's because it is unique.
I walked a lot through the park, but naturally not as much as with the Gardens of Apogee, with my time being shorter. I feel that the terrain here is a lot more flat than the one of Apogee, the one of Apooge was a lot more hilly and that helped to create this sense of depth, once you enter, you get fully lost on it, you can't see the end and there are some huge huge trees. I feel the flat landscape hurts a bit the scene of scale in this place. Does that mean I like very green and hilly cemeteries the most? I don't know, but that's what I felt. There are also roads for the cars but while the Gardens of Apogee give you a big green area to lose yourself between the dead, the roads are always hugging each area every several meters, so you never feel truly lost, the tomb areas feel also like small areas closer to the road rather than being part of a big big park. Even then though, there were some pretty nice places like that three and its friend that fell into the ditch. The papyrus were also very pretty. There were also a lot of workers taking take of the place, I like seeing workers always maintain a cemetery, the only thing is that I when I pass by I feel like a creep since naturally there is no one I have to see in those places.
I read a review in Google Maps saying that they found the tomb of their mother broken because they refused to do more payments and blamed it on the whole place being just a business. It's a bit sad, isn't it? Remember when we used to think back in our little towns that we would have our own grave and that grave would be given to us forever until our name worn out? Not handled by a company, but the local church, no rentals, no small columbariums, in a way, it feels like being at the infancy of society. I know taking care of a cemetery takes money and effort, everything has a price, even after death, somehow.
One thing I don't like of green field cemeteries is how they don't give you a clear path to walk on, so you eventually end up stepping over the graves hidden in the grass. Only paths like this formed by cars of passing by helped me step on without guilt.
I walked a lot, and saw a lot, but to be honest with you I was feeling still hurt by all the time and money I wasted that I started to feel alone. I said to myself "why do I review cemeteries for? What is the point? They are just cemeteries, there is really nothing to review in them, you put the death people there, and that's it, what is all the fuzz about?" I felt very sad and silly. To go to the limits of the city and spent a whole day on this, what was the point for?
I was about to leave, but then I saw a weird structure at the very back of the place. It looked like some sort of chapel. "I said, hmm, another chapel, well, might as well check it out." The time for the cemetery to close was approaching, there was nobody there aside the workers, I had no one to look for, I was afraid, I said, what if I get scolded? What if I get banned? What if they yell at me and kick me out? I was going further and further inside the cemetery, as far as my feet could take me, but my steps weighted a ton and I was anxious.
I looked at it and I said, man, what a weird ass chapel. See the tips? They have several arches but they are not the same length, it makes the structures look... disheveled, in a way. But it was a curious place, it looked almost like the naked ruins of a castle. The place was almost deserted, only the noise of a small well broke the silence of the place. I saw a man walking on the second floor, I tried to find the entrance, but I didn't find it, and that's when I realized, it wasn't a chapel. It was the columbarium.
Dude, you have no idea how happy it made me. A castle! A castle of columbariums! What a wonderful and beautiful idea! So far, everything in my day had been pure shit, absolute pure shit, and I was a bit disappointed with the cemetery because for how far I had to go I wanted to see more of it, and I didn't find it, but when I reached the castle of columbariums, I felt so happy, so damn happy! I nearly cried! My eyes got watery but then I said, "no wait, this is stupid", and I didn't cry.
Okay so maybe I was still feeling a little self aware to let my emotions be, but I was really enchanted with the place. It made all the shit I went through today, worth it. The buses, the traffic, the poop, the closed cemetery, the sadness, everything was redeemed when I found the columbarium. Think about it, the columbariums are usually the weakest part of a cemetery, you know, just a blank slate wall that makes the graves there feel less gorgeous, but this little place, this tiny itsy bitsy cemetery with its weird ass aesthetic and stuff made of the columbarium the strongest thing of the whole place.
Should the water be green? Well no matter, I like when classy stuff blends with decadence, it gives the sense of ruins, of time, it gives weight to the place and tells you, keeping this thing up is hard work, its always just a partial success, but that's what it makes it beautiful. When I walked in I saw the maintenance worker dressed in gray I had seen in the second floor, I smiled at him and I said hi and he answered in a very warm and sweet voice, he was probably 50 or 60 and probably tired. I thought he was a like a prince, a prince for the castle of the dead. I loved him deeply, I think I will make a poem about him and the columbarium later.
When I left I was in much better mood, since it was starting to rain and the night would fall soon, I decided I would try to go home sooner rather than later. But still, to think that at the very end of the map was such an easter egg! A castle! A ruined castle for the dead! See those flower pots? They have names too, but I doubt they have bodies in them, would you like your ashes to serve as part of a flowerpot when you die? I think it would be pretty, although naturally I would like something with a bit more scale.
On my way back, I saw this monument, I like the idea of Jesus with a spear, it gives him some character. There was also this beautiful poem at its side.
"Life and Death"
Life and death.
Death and life.
Life is latent,
And death is so unknown.
Oh, how beautiful life is,
Yet how dark death appears.
Are they all the same? Are they not sisters?
Are they not equally intriguing and beautiful?
Is it not the same, yet different,
To say "life and death"
Or "death and life"?
Life is the vibrant, powerful stage.
Death is the end of the lived stage.
Is there nothing that asks for death?
Is there nothing that suddenly vanishes,
A supreme body that disappears,
That shows life releasing,
That fills nothingness, that leaves life?
This is what happens, this is what remains.
And we, it seems, go on binding ourselves,
Yet we do not know if life is secretly a part of death,
Or if death forms part of life.
They remain unexplored, incomprehensible,
And perhaps in this way they can better understand each other:
Life and death,
Death and Life.
To end the review, I also saw this beautiful house in ruins at the side of the cemetery. I don't know if they are trying to keep it or build around it, but when I saw it I was ecstatic. When I see something as old as that I feel like I made a Bluetooth connection with the past, lol. It's like... I managed to get some signal, a trace of the past, of what was real once upon a time and now gives me flashes of the people who were happy way before I existed, it grounds me and makes me feel aware of the pass of time. It is such an incredible feeling.
There were so very pretty commemorative plaques hidden between the leaves on the walls that separated the cemetery from the old house. Ones were already worn out and long so gone, as if already closing their eyes.
The north of the city is a lot colder, when I arrived I was starting to freeze, but when I left, I didn't feel any cold at all.
8/10

Japan has good neighborhood streets
<figure class="wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio"> <div class="wp-block-embed__wrapper">https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puV5D7P8_N8</div> </figure> <p>I’ve been telling people for years how the narrowness of the streets in Japan is probably the best traffic calming device I’ve ever seen and works on almost every mode of traffic from large truck down to pedestrian. In the States, we build roads way too wide for their intended use, then complain later when we see people driving on them like mini freeways. The street I lived on in Japan was about 10 meters wide; the one I live on now is about 20. (Thats 30 and 60 feet respectively for us ‘Muricans)</p> <figure class="wp-block-image alignleft"><img fetchpriority="high" decoding="async" width="300" height="250" data-attachment-id="567713" data-permalink="https://starrwulfe.xyz/2024/04/japan-neighborhood-street-design/screenshot_13-4-2024_64827_www-google-com/" data-orig-file="https://starrwulfe.xyz/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Screenshot_13-4-2024_64827_www.google.com_.jpeg" data-orig-size="955,796" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="Screenshot_13-4-2024_64827_www.google.com" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://starrwulfe.xyz/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Screenshot_13-4-2024_64827_www.google.com_.jpeg" data-large-file="https://starrwulfe.xyz/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Screenshot_13-4-2024_64827_www.google.com_.jpeg" class="wp-image-567713" src="https://starrwulfe.xyz/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Screenshot_13-4-2024_64827_www.google.com_-300x250.jpeg" alt="Typical view of the last street in Japan I lived on in Hiratsuka, Japan, an exurban part of Greater Tokyo/Yokohama. That never happens in the US, even for commercial truckers. The other thing is how the laws are enforced. Japanese traffic police are very good at their jobs, especially motorcycle and bike cops. The painted sharrows and Dutch style bike edge lanes are very recent, like in the last 5-10 years or so; what’s more at work here is just a long history of Japanese traffic law being very strict especially beginning in the mid 1990’s when it on-street parking was made illegal nationwide (something also not talked about by almost anyone, but is very noticeable to anyone coming to Japan.)</p> <p>I’ll die on this hill: Laws are only as good as their enforcement, adherence and understanding. Learning to drive, ride, and even walk as a pedestrian in Japan is something that is reinforced and understood by the vast majority and that’s the main reason why you see things the way they are.</p> <figure class="wp-block-image alignleft"><img decoding="async" width="300" height="233" data-attachment-id="567811" data-permalink="https://starrwulfe.xyz/2024/04/japan-neighborhood-street-design/screenshot_13-4-2024_7118_www-google-com/" data-orig-file="https://starrwulfe.xyz/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Screenshot_13-4-2024_7118_www.google.com_.jpeg" data-orig-size="872,676" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"","orientation":"0"}" data-image-title="ATL suburban street profile" data-image-description="" data-image-caption="" data-medium-file="https://starrwulfe.xyz/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Screenshot_13-4-2024_7118_www.google.com_.jpeg" data-large-file="https://starrwulfe.xyz/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Screenshot_13-4-2024_7118_www.google.com_.jpeg" class="wp-image-567811" src="https://starrwulfe.xyz/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/Screenshot_13-4-2024_7118_www.google.com_-300x233.jpeg" alt="typical suburban Atlanta neighborhood with single-story houses and tall trees. A few years ago, a dear friend of mine was fatally struck by a car while crossing mid-block on a busy road in Nagoya. He was on his bicycle, and although I’m not fully aware of the details, the police indicated that the primary cause was his decision to cross a major road at night outside of the crosswalks, on what is known as a “<a href="https://www.strongtowns.org/journal/2018/3/1/whats-a-stroad-and-why-does-it-matter">stroad</a>“. Such incidents are often attributed to “user error”, and it’s uncertain if any design changes could prevent these types of accidents. Nonetheless, it’s somewhat consoling to know that this is the only traffic fatality I’ve experienced in Japan, compared to six I’ve known in the US over a similar period of about twenty years. I lived in Nagoya for three years about 13 years ago and it’s known for being the place with the most traffic safety issues per capita in Japan due in part to its wider than average boulevards and a relatively lower public transit coverage plus higher car dependence and sprawl when compared to Osaka and Tokyo metros (which is still way better than the typical American city anyway). This is Toyota and Mitsubishi’s hometown after all. Even still, there are places like Sakae and <a href="https://www.archdaily.com/997471/hisaya-odori-park-taisei-design-planners-architects-and-engineers">Hisaya-Odori Park</a> along with<a href="https://jason.gatewood.xyz/x/EB4B8D75-986E-4EC3-B35A-C1E67AF8C8B0/b/F3C15F0A-82E6-4375-9EE3-CBB0881D7458/Let%E2%80%99s-Tour-Nagoya%E2%80%99s-Underground-Lab"> lots of underground pedestrian plazas</a> that serve to help keep the center of town first class for pedestrians and separate from car traffic.</p> <figure class="wp-block-image alignleft"><img decoding="async" width="300" height="196" data-attachment-id="567913" data-permalink="https://starrwulfe.xyz/2024/04/japan-neighborhood-street-design/screenshot/" data-orig-file="https://starrwulfe.xyz/wp-content/uploads/2024/04/211200_Handboek-Rood-tram-street.jpg" data-orig-size="1024,669" data-comments-opened="1" data-image-meta="{"aperture":"0","credit":"","camera":"","caption":"Screenshot","created_timestamp":"0","copyright":"","focal_length":"0","iso":"0","shutter_speed":"0","title":"Screenshot","orientation":"1"}" data-image-title="Isometric Tram Street" data-image-description="<p>The image presents a conceptual design for a multi-modal city street, featuring a tram on a dedicated track, a red cycling path, and pedestrian walkways. This is something that doesn’t need to be done in one go; it can be done in phases as streets come up for reconstruction, can be done with just a little bit more money than said maintenance, and has been successful in the vast majority of places it has been implemented. I’ve been reading books like <a href="https://abc.starrwulfe.xyz/2024/04/13/finished-reading-building.html"><em>Building the Cycling City</em></a> and even the <a href="https://www.amsterdam.nl/wonen-leefomgeving/puccinimethode/puccinimethode/"><em>Amsterdam Red Book</em></a> for urban mobility to gather some of these points. PHOTO ESSAY
June 1, 2023 (Thursday) our school Trece Martires City College decided to conduct an educational tour for all the 1st and 2nd year students of Education Department.
On the said date I suddenly woke up when the alarm clock went off at 5am. We prepared early because our call time is at 6 am in the morning and it takes 2 hours to get to our first destination.
We just slept, ate and talk with our tour guide kuya Ivan on our way, and when we go in there it was 8 am, we went straight to our first destination which is MUSEO EL DEPOSITO it is a historical museum in the city of San Juan in Metro Manila that features The Carriedo water system, including the El Deposito underwater reservoir. It's kinda smelly underground that's why we didn't stay there for a long.
There was also The Museo ng katipunan that features artifacts which relate to the Philippine Revolution and The Katipunan. As I enter the museum I was mesmerized seeing the documents such as cedulas, oaths, membership forms, as well as medals, anting-anting and weapons used by the Katipunan. It has three galleries namely: The Audio-Visual Room, Resource Center, and The Virtual Reality Room. The audiovisual room narrates the period prior to the establishment of The Carriedo Waterworks in 1882, The Resource Center features artifacts, photographs, prints and scale models, while The Virtual Reality room provides a re-enactment of the Battle of San Juan del Monte to the museum visitors. The museum is situated within the grounds of the Pinaglabanan Shrine. The structure and everything you will see there is so beautiful and also the staffs are very accommodating as we enter the building.
Our second destination is a place where we can see the beauty of Intramuros it is The Baluarte De San Diego and The fort Santiago. Fun fact did you know that Intramuros is also called as a "walled city"? in the reason of its mainly built as a defensive curtain to defend the occupant from outside aggression and It has a compressed gauze-like system of streets and a central square surrounded by government offices.
At this point in time were we are in the 21st century intramuros is now a well-maintained park and popular tourist destination that has a fast food restaurants and shops catering mostly to the student population within Intramuros.
There are also other places that you must see when you go in Intramuros such as...
Schools ( Colegio de San Juan de Letran, Colegio de Santa Rosa, Lyceum of the Philippines University etc )
Churches ( Manila Cathedral, San Agustin Church, San Ignacio Church, Guadalupe Shrine in Fort Santiago etc )
Monuments and Statues
12 in the afternoon it was lunch time while looking for a place to eat we only have an hour to had a lunch because our last spot is on star city. Our bus decided to park at Harbour Square then we found out that there's a Jollibee Fast food restaurant. so me and my friends decided to bring our packed lunch and eat there while looking at the refershing view of Manila Bay.
For our last and final destination, after we had our lunch we headed quickly inside the Star City so that no time will waste. As you enter the Star City you will first see the stall selling of souvenir items like stuff toys, T-shirts ,candies, toys etc. In this amusement park you will enjoy for the reason that there are 25 various types of rides and attractions that worth what you paid for though we didnt have much picture inside the park because other than the fact that we enjoy the rides we only had 4 hours to stay but in the end of the day we still seize the moment.
The first thing I noticed about intramuros is that you really need a lot of energy to walk around and you must have a bottle of water with you to avoid dehydration.
Even though the time I spend there was limited, I still enjoyed it and learned a lot of things regarding our own history, nothing can replace the warmth feeling that I felt during our educational trip so you guys should try to visit Intramuros and Star City I can vouch for the authencity of it, it was a good call indeed that you won't regret coming there, I was hoping I could visit Intramuros again but with my family.

(Composed elsewhere on the topic of going car-free; presented here without further comment.)
Of course it helps that I live in Copenhagen
This is the real crux of the problem. It's relatively easy to go car-free if one lives in a real, live city and never engages in activities that require transporting significant amounts of gear into more remote places - hiking and camping, canoeing and kayaking, skiing and snowboarding. More can be done, certainly, but it's entirely feasible.
Unfortunately, here in the US, there are too many people already not living in cities. When you see those figures saying a majority of people live in cities, they mean that percentage live in metro areas including suburbs and parts of cities that are more like the suburbs than like the dense core. For example, I used to live in Detroit, where there used to be large tracts of single-family homes requiring a significant hike to anything else but a church or school. That's less true now, but only because the city has been depopulated, not made more walkable in any useful sense. Public transportation was crap then and is probably worse now.
Lots of people are "stranded" in suburbs where even the town center - if there even is one, and often miles away for some - is dead after 5pm. The already-at-capacity cities can't accommodate them. Not all at once. Yes, there will always be some who can run away from the problems where they grew up (forfeiting the ability to influence zoning or any other policy) but a more general transition will require a huge amount of demolition and reconstruction. That's disruptive, expensive, and carries its own massive environmental cost. It will take decades, and it will also require people who stay to fight the NIMBYs and change the policies that keep things the way they are.
That's why the "I hate your car" rhetoric is so unhelpful. Especially from people who never made their own decision to live in a city (leveraging their parents' decision) and/or who ride bikes purely for sport or recreation and yet still try to claim the super-environmentalist mantle. I know many actual bike commuters and kudos to them, but I also see plenty of people transporting their $10K bikes on top of their cars several miles to the starting point for their recreational rides. Dumping on suburban dwellers, without distinction, is dumping on those who are transit-poor, and no better than dumping on those who are poor in other ways. It's just elitist sneering.
If we really want to solve this problem, we need to do two things. One is to increase the livability of the cities we already have, e.g. with better pedestrian/biking and mass transit infrastructure plus more affordable medium-density housing. The other, I think larger, effort needs to go into changing the suburbs in place to be more environmentally benign. For example, imagine the typical mall or office park converted into a village center with everything you need for day to day living - e.g. grocery and hardware stores as well as clothes and jewelry and luggage. Replace the massive parking lots and six-lane highways with a bus lane, a separate bike lane, medium-density housing, and some park land. Now you have an actual functioning village, with far less disruption and environmental cost than a wholesale move to the city. For all the talk about the "missing middle" in building sizes, I think it's a shame that the missing middle in community sizes tends to be overlooked. We don't need more people living in dense urban cores, with their own characteristic costs and problems. We need more - and more human centered - villages and towns. It's the dichotomy between super high density and super low density that we need to smash.

Hiranandani Fortune City : An Overview of Residential Project in Panvel, Mumbai
"Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts." -Winston Churchill.
Life has a funny way of teaching us things. In one moment you have it all, and in the other you see the sand passing through your hands. That doesn't mean that you have fallen, it only means that after bad comes the good again. Life is a full circle and good and bad times are just a part of the whole chakra. Such was our story, a story of ups and downs that we saw collectively as a team at Hiranandani Communities. We did slow down because of the many rumors that tried to break us but in the end, we only emerged stronger than ever.
I'm Niranjan Hiranandani and this is my story of our new awakening.
Often when I think about my journey as an entrepreneur and the founder of Hiranandani Communities, it fills me with great pride and honor to have been a part of a journey that focuses primarily on our customers and how they feel. Having gone back and forth in the pendulum of success, we are back and in full motion with our newest project in Panvel called the Hiranandani Fortune City.
To give you a brief introduction of what our newest property is about, let's all take a minute, close our eyes, take a deep breath and picture a life where all we can hear are sounds of hustle, noises of the crowd and in plain simple words, living in an area that makes your mind busier and your life monotonous. Shouldn't coming back home be a peaceful experience, an experience that gives a feeling of comfort and happiness? This is exactly the idea that we promote here at the Hiranandani Communities. We aim to congregate modern architecture with the best elements from the traditional times.
Hiranandani Fortune City, our latest township dwells on making the everyday life of each one of you simpler yet larger than life. The amenities that this township offers are massive and can make anyone drool over. The Hiranandani Fortune City has 1, 2 and 3 BHK homes to occupy and until today, over 1600 homes and retail units have already been offered for possession. All of these beautiful luxuries were crafted keeping in mind the comfort and happiness of our customers.
Based in the Panvel area of Navi Mumbai, with Hiranandani Fortune City, we have incorporated everything that it takes to become every person's home and an investment too- an investment to live at a place that will guarantee a better lifestyle. So, let's talk about the diamond points that make Hiranandani Fortune City an ideal place to not just build your home but also some beautiful memories.
To make your lives easier and more convenient while living in this township, there are several large-scale development plans that are already in process including an airport that is proposed to be built at Navi Mumbai, Mumbai Trans Harbour Link etc.
It is located off the Mumbai-Pune Expressway which is one of the fastest growing business corridors. The metro rail connectivity is also outstanding and convenient as Mohape and Panvel terminus are the closest metro stations along with Suburban train connectivity in five directions.
Along with these convenience bits, the township itself has luxurious amenities for residents to enjoy within the township. True to their philosophy of Live, Work and Play, these townships boast of the following amenities:

The Ultimate Way to See the Louvre Museum in Paris
The largest and busiest museum of art in the world is the Louvre in Paris. It is the ideal illustration of French Baroque architecture and is situated in the centre of Paris on the right bank of the Seine. The museum houses the world's most magnificent collection of artwork and is well-recognized for being the location of the Mona Lisa.
It is impossible to avoid visiting the Louvre when in Paris, and this guide will assist you in finding the most famous artwork, getting the best deals on tickets, dining at the best restaurants around, and more during your Louvre Museum tour:
Tips for getting insight into what to do during the Louvre Museum tour
Purchase a timed ticket before your Louvre Museum tour
The Louvre is the world's most popular museum. The museum attracted 2.8 million visitors in 2021, and as tourism continues to soar in a post-pandemic Paris, that number will undoubtedly rise. Purchase a ticket in advance to reduce the amount of time you spend in line. In this manner, you can present your ticket and begin your visit by strolling directly to your favorite Louvre wing.
Understand where to avoid lines
By entering by the Carrousel du Louvre instead of the well-known Pyramid entrance, you can bypass the long security line. The steps that run on either side of the Arc du Triomphe du Carrousel provide entry to the Carrousel du Louvre, a subterranean shopping center in front of the Louvre, which is directly accessible from the metro line 1 at the Palais Royale Musée du Louvre stop.
Travel after midnight
The Louvre is open until 9:45 p.m. on Fridays. Get a late meal and then go to the Louvre to spend some time exploring the empty corridors.
Don't try to see everything
You will never see all 35,000 paintings on display at the Louvre. Take your time, and if you find anything you like, hang around; if not, keep going.
Select one object you wish to view and go there
You won't have trouble finding the Mona Lisa because there are signs pointing in her direction everywhere. Pick one or two pieces of art and set out on a quest to find them. You're likely to learn more as you travel.
During your Louvre Museum tour, make sure that you buy your tickets well in advance to beat the rush. Safely travel!
