Doctor olivia octavius, from the "into the spider-verse" movie, is litterally just the gender bent version of dr. Robotnik from the first sonic movie, and you cannot change my mind.

Thinking about how in a single gameplay Jason (who already has blood on his hands and conscience from an incorrect call) can be faced with the decision to:
let Merwin face the vampires alone
stab Joey
shoot or abandon Clarice
shoot Rachel
lie to Nick about his chance of survival
leave Salim to die
And then thinking about how they find Balathu or Kurum half preserved and suffering and Salim decides they must put him out of his misery. And how when Jason automatically moves to follow through, Salim puts a hand on his gun and says “I’ll do it.”
It’s a choice born of practicality, not kindness. But to Jason, who’s made the call so many times he’s gone numb, it must also be a lifeline.

One thing that annoys me to no end about how Aveline's involvement and inaction im "Prime suspect" questline pans out is that they basically took the worst of both worlds.
Like you could want Aveline's inaction to be part of her development and a character flaw- which is very consisten with how she usually prioritizes the guards safety and overall image over literally anything else including their duty to protect the people. Like the investigation wasn't going anywhere and it made the guard look bad so she is dropping it because to her the smallest chance that Emeric is in fact right and people are in danger isn't worth the damage to the guard in case he is wrong. This is also good foreshadowing for when this worst trait of Aveline results in Qunari invasion. The only thing that makes me doubt this was the intention is that Aveline never gets the "Oh shit, I am not meant to protect the guard- I am meant to make sure the guard protects everyone else" moment, which was dierly needed if that's what they were going for. It was direly needed in Aveline's case in general because considering all the characters get their "Questioning beliefs" moments... Aveline's questioned beliefs are the most vague.
So lets imagine this is not what they were going for for a moment which honestly I find plausible considering the game tends to frame Aveline as mostly reasonable and how the talk afterwards goes if you do point out it was her fault. Lets imagine that Aveline wasn't supposed to be the one to blame here, the game just needed a reason for why Hawke got mixed up with the investigation- I still to this day do not get why they didn't use the perfect reason we later learned they had.
The investigation was constantly being poisoned by Orsino. Since we learn in the end that Orsino was aware of Quentins existance but keeping it under wraps to not justify Meredith's methods, he could also do what he can to make sure he was untraceable. And obviously he wouldn't know exactly what Quentin was involved with, he wouldn't believe the rumors that were cirrculating- they make every other apostate sound like a bloodthirsty killer after all.
Aveline would notice something is off and official ways of investigating are being stopped in their tracks. So she goes to Hawke with "listen this may be nothing but I feel someone really doesn't want us to find out anything in this case, and I have a bad feeling."
This way you kill two birds with one stone- you absolve Aveline of all the responsibility for what happens and you give a hint Quentin had some powerful friends.
Now I know this would put Orsino in a worse light were in the game he just turns the blind eye, but at least to me it doesn't make him necessarily a bad person? Just a man under immense amount of pressure who is very aware of how one bad thing a out one mage puts all of them in danger. I think this would also potentially make his relationship with Hawke absolutely heartbreaking especially if Hawke supports the mages. Like how do you tell the one most powerfull ally you have that you are indirectly responsible for the worst thing that happened to them.
While I personally think having Aveline be responsible for what happened and take some time to think on it would be better for the story and for her character growth I think the second option also had a good narrative potential- but instead they sort of took both of those but not really. Aveline's inaction hurts the one she swore to protect... but not really. Orsino knew about Quentin and is therefore to some extent responsible for what happened... but not really. Hawke's mother is dead and we didn't even get a churro out of it.

The worst part of being bisexual is people thinking I only date men and women. When I say I also date other genders besides men and women, people I'm told I must be pan. They focus to much on the prefix bi meaning two.
Weird comparison: Guinea pigs are not actually pigs from guinea. Sometimes names are misleading.
Despite the prefix I can date all genders.
I also hate fighting with pan people. Are sexualities are similar yet distinct. I just want to get along and fight queerphobes together.

Thoughts on Sayaka Maizono?
Sayaka really is a character who the fandom goes one or two ways. One section of the fandom calls her a snake and the other section literally decorates their entire fucking house in Sayaka drawings.
The funniest thing is some of @creepercraftguy's sprite edits found their way into said house and as such one can tease him over the fact he actually contributed to that...well would you call it a masterpiece? It's art but...I dunno.
Design wise, Sayaka is extremely plain looking but I am gonna give her some slack as she was literally the first female Danganronpa character ever designed and you aren't gonna have a banger on the first go. But I will say that Sayaka could benefit from a redesign as currently she looks like atypical Japanese high schooler which might have worked when we were in the Distrust era but in this zany Danganronpa universe, not so much. It's just her design isn't very "idol"
Of course everyone and their mother knows Sayaka is the first big gotcha in Danganronpa and tells you right away what this franchise is gonna be about. As in a normal setting, Sayaka would be the assistant character for Makoto and the fact they knew each other before the game was definitely setting up for that.
And so Danganronpa has her be victim number one, which okay that's one thing. The second thing is that Sayaka was planning a murder but 11037 turned the tables and killed her. Now I will say that those saying that Leon should have walked away once Sayaka was disarmed, firstly the Class Trial system wasn't announced until after this murder took place, and secondly Sayaka could have spun the whole thing to make Leon look guilty and the others would have believed her.
Alternatively the manga adaptation of Danganronpa paints this more tragically as Sayaka still had the knife on her when she fled into the bathroom and Leon opens the door, to try and calm her down. As for why he didn't do so outside, I'm gonna assume the door is soundproof, but Sayaka didn't believe him, another attempt was made and Sayaka got accidently stabbed.
Its very easy to call Sayaka a snake in this regard but aside from the fact by the logic of snake, both Aoi and Kyoko could be called that due to their actions, but Sayaka was less a criminal mastermind and more of a desperate young girl who feared her career was over. Given how brutal the idol industry is, Sayaka probably had to do some unsavory stuff to get on top.
What I find funny is whenever Sayaka shows up in askblogs she's a total badarse. Ask the Despair Kids? Sayaka runs the Remnants of Hope, was able to hold her own against Kyoji who had basically genetically modified himself to be like a typical Bioshock player, AND she has a pet kaiju. A Student Out of Time? Sayaka is the long awaited 4th good time traveller and has been pulling a lot of weight and has her own faction consisting of mostly future people from her class. Survivors? Sayaka is a major member of the Future Foundation and recently has become one of Makoto's girlfriends. The only one she hasn't done something epic in is Despair to Future Arcs but that's because we haven't focused on her past yet. And when Sayaka gets her moment in my sketches you bet she will have an epic moment.
But in terms of her in canon, Sayaka just dies in the first chapter because Spike Chunsoft hate using her as a reference model, and she sets the tone of the franchise but that's that. Nothing impressive in canon and her best moments are from her potential and what fans can do with her then what she does in canon.

Playing DAI again and I have some thoughts about the Varric/Solas banter. Those aren't entirely nice thoughts however so so be warned if you don't like hearing negative takes about DAI, which is totally cool btw, this is what is coming under the cut.
So what I feel like most often gets praised about the banter between Varric and Solas is that they perfectly encapsulate their opposing wirldviews. Varric who embraces change vs Solas who can't let go of the past. And I do get that. I think the old man on the island part is great.
What is not so great is... a lot of their banter leading up to that part. I am not a fan of Solas asking questions about dwarves, dwarven culture- some of which I would love to get an actual answer to- and Varric just shrugging and going "Dunno don't care, all the dwarves that care are stuck up pricks" and then Solas marveling at him being not like other dwarves.
And the thing is- that is kind of the point like, Varric not caring much about past and embracing now is the core part of this philosophical debate. Embracing the change is the key element of Varrics prespective. What I dislike is how we end up putting all of dwarven culture on the chopping block to drive that point home.
I already made a post once about how Varric's approach to his heretige is very close to Sera's. And, even if Sera is not the most perfect representation of internalized racism... there is only one Sera, and there are 6 other elven companions, all of whom have diffrent perspectives on their culture. There is less then half of that for the dwarves, and no other dwarven companion in Inqusition meaning Varric is the only point of view on the dwarves we get. Imagine if through both DA2 and DAI the only elf companion we got was Sera.
Now why do I care about that. Because the "people who care 'too much' about their traditions and culture need to chill out" narrative is something that perminates a lot of Dragon Age writing about minorities. The elves do get it most often and the worst, but other races like dwarves and qunari aren't getting off the hook either. And with dwarves it annoys me specifically for quite some time now- because the racist and kind of anti-semitic writing in dwarves slips under the radar a lot of the time, especially since the writers did make a point to state the Jewish inspiration in Andrastian Elves openly and they get a lot more focus in the narrative.
So we end up with Varric, whose internalized racism not only goes unexamined, it is something that earns him praise and awe from an elven god. The message, however (hopefully) unintended is "Rejecting your cultural roots in the name of assimilation is a better way to be then worrying and caring about what you might be loosing ". And idk, I just. Don't like it. I think it sucks.
