There’s a word in Korean: 인연 [in yun] — it means “providence” or “fate”. If two strangers walk by each other in the street, and their clothes accidentally brush, that means there have been eight thousand layers of 인연 between them

you know what i'll say it MIKE AND ROIER ARE THE ONLY ONES I RESPECT these fuckers will rock up and say FUCK english all my homies HATE english they are the only ones i trust and respect these fuckers are like you will hear me speak my language and you will LEARN IT OR DIE and i respect the HELL OUT OF IT dude THANK YOU FOR BEING ENGLISH HATERS brothers THANK YOU FOR NOT SPEAKING ONLY ENGLISH WHEN AMONG ANYONE NOT OF YOUR LANGUAGE GROUP!!!!!!!!
#qsmp#if there are others who also refuse to speak english that i didn't notice i will add them#this excludes the koreans bc they aren't strong in english so it's only half an option for them#(allegedly aren't strong i didn't see them around long enough to come to any real conclusions but i'm told they aren't strong in it)#and also hugo bc he didn't have much time on the server and some people who start out relying on the translations#will swap over to using their english however strong that might be idk his relative strength either bc like korea he wasn't online long 😔#which i also respect because i'm glad they get to practice their nonnative tongue that's cool#but the first multilingual smp with live translation becoming the 'english in a group' server gives me fits#anyway for legal reasons much of this post is hyperbole and exaggeration#but i do love how mike and roier can be consistently relied on to just Not Speak English#block game brainrot#shut up vic#bonus shoutout to foolish who often insists spanish speakers only speak spanish to him#and tries to only speak spanish in return. he's not got broad vocab just yet but for only learning via this and duolingo he's doing amazing#and i have a lot of respect for him for it#(yes i respect everyone for reasons but this post is about the ones who can and do speak Not English on purpose)#(regrettably people like bbh and phil don't count although i still respect their efforts)#ANYWAY SLASH END TAG RANT THIS POST KNOWS WHAT IT'S ABOUT DON'T FIGHT ME

my grandmother knows how much i love the moon and she's started clipping articles out of the paper whenever they're space-related and mailing them to me and i've taken to calling her whenever there's an interesting celestial body visible to the naked eye in the night sky. it's a cute lil way that we bond and has had the happy side effect that now in addition to all the other reasons i love to see the moon, i now also love it because it's something i get to share with her. this is all important context that my friends didn't have last week when we turned a corner and my reaction to seeing the full moon hanging huge and bright and beautiful right in front of us was to shout "i need to call my grandmother!!" now, i'm not sure what conclusions i would have jumped to were i in their position, but i feel like "my friend's grandmother must be a werewolf" would have been low on the list of possibilities. that's just me though.
#in fairness to them that is the most interesting possible conclusion and my grandmother thinks it's hilarious#what's up party people i spent literally the entire day lying down#and have only now gotten up to sit at the table so i can put my dico vocab in my vocab spreadsheet#so many of my symptoms have improved today! however i am still coughing and i'm on my period so that has been fun#projectile uterine discharge#luna#vampires and werewolves and zombies oh my#my posts#pretty sure my heater is broken 🙄 i think the pilot light is out? so that's fun#i don't want to have anyone in here until i'm not contagious obviously#so i'll just live with it#luckily it's not below freezing or anything. also when you're in bed all day you don't even notice! silver linings#(don't tell my grandmother the werewolf)#(are there any versions of little red riding hood where the wolf is a werewolf? how sharp your teeth are grandmother...)

#especially when ppl go off script like if i order smtg i know what I'll say and what they'll say but then BOO! CARD DECLINED JUMPSCARE#and the thing is i used to be 10000% fluent so the instinct to speak really quickly is still there#but neither the vocab or the grammar is#it feels so WEIRDDD it happens in spanish too except i was never fluent in spanish i just#went so insane abt a spanish show that my brain switched to spanish for a bit and it still thinks we're fluent (we're a1 at best)#but anyway getting wildly off topic#point is im like 10% this coherent irl i just have time to look up words when im speaking online😭 but it takes time... blegh#I'll get back to my old level i know this in my heart#i got mail!#like i can understand most things and i can stutter out most things but it's NOT GOOD. like i'll live but i wanna thrive...

Finding out youre agorophobic is wack bc its like, if you dont know then for me at least you just go out anyway and dissociate the whole time feel like absolute garbage and take days to recover from a small trip to groceries and finding every excuse possible to drop plans with people until they eventually stopped asking and stopped talking altogether. And now its like, oh. Is this why going outside feels like dying. Huh. And i wanna go out and do things but the thought makes me vomit for a week leading up to it and i was told oh its just being dramatic so yeah cool whatever.
Now im like, okay i actually have to get to used to going out and being around people adn put things in place for the paranoia and anxiety and plan things in advance and i gotta tell myself about it and walk myself through it everyday leading up. And im an adult so fuck everyone i will in fact be taking my headphones and a fidget and wearing my rat jacket as a security blanket in 90 degree weather thank you. I am in fact, allowed to accommodate myself and set boundaries fuck you actually.
#winter speaks#figuring out i was gaslit my whole life on more than just yhe two things i was aware if is fucking insane#i have a lot of the same problems my mom has that she fuckin caused or ignored and all my life#i couldnt have this and this and this bc youre just copying me and usinh my excuses#bitch you gave me this shit and then described what you deal eithnusing vocab i hadnt learned yet#and i connected yhe dots and eent oh and instead of you being self awate enough to also go oh you just berated me until i shut up#its really weird living in the same house as someome that gave youost of your issues. and the relationships better and you cant leave yet#but working through things and tryung yo accomodate and take care of yourself and be justifiably angry#while hiding it from the person youre living with bc all you wantbyo do is scream at them and ask them why and istead#youre asking if they want coffee bc youre making some and letting them know therell be packages next week n sorry about that#is a fucking whiplash experience and im just sitting here like °-° i wanna smash things and scream#anyway. get therapy if you can its fun

Korean Holidays in Spring 🌼
Note (Another note from me, the team member responsible for posting our stuff on tumblr): So, it's basically summer in Korea these days (very hot and sunny!) and this may seem out of the blue... We planned this post when it was spring, but real life (a.k.a college assignments) delayed our schedule a bit. We still hope you enjoy our post about holidays in Spring. Here's the link to our instagram post as usual(part 1, part 2).
Just less than a century ago, almost every individual in Korea were farmers. Even in the 1960s, more than half of the total population grew crops for living. If we count from the days of Dangun (단군, the mythical founder of Korea), for more than 4000 years, the people of Korea were largely committed to farming.
In a society where farming is central to the community, the weather and the seasons hold great importance. Really, because if there is a storm or an extreme raining season, that would mean that the crops will be ruined that year, leading to a year of celebration. Thus spring, which marks the beginning of the year and also the beginning of the planting season, was full of traditional celebrations which wished for a good year and the blessing of the ancestors. This post will further investigate the traditional spring holidays of Korea and its unique customs which were set to celebrate such comings of life.
Seolnal [설날], also known as the Lunar New Year and Chinese new year, marks the beginning of the new year and celebrates the rise of the first moon. Now when the first moon rises, it appears as a very small crescent figure. After 15 days, it becomes the full moon. On this first full moon of the year, the jong-wol-dae-borum[정월대보름](hereon referred to as jeong-wol)holiday is celebrated. In the very early morning of the jeong-wol, families celebrate the day by eating bu-rom[부럼], which is a set of hard nuts such as peanuts, walnuts and chestnuts. By putting the hard nut in your mouth and purposefully breaking it with your teeth, you wish for good luck. More specifically, you wish for no bad luck this year.
This bu-rom breaking tradition stems from a homophonic term with bu-rom: bu-se-rom[부스럼]. Bu-se-rom refers to little pimples, thus by breaking the bu-roms, referring to bad luck in general, the people wished to have a healthy body in the new years which is essential for harvest. Traditionally, people would eat jabgok- bab[잡곡밥], which is rice cooked with nuts, with the na-mul[나물](seasoned spring herbs)s together.
(A picture from our family dinner in the new years week, which features the additional servings of jabgokbab, namul, and other traditional dishes)
During the middays, people went around each family’s houses and farms, each carrying traditional celebrations. Ji-bul- nori[쥐불놀이] was a ceremony of intentionally setting fire to the farmland. Attaching a small paper or a can to a long rope, the players of jibulnori would hold the end of the rope and spin it, while lighting up the small paper or can attached. After spinning the rope a few times, the player would throw the fire inside the land. The fire was thrown in not only to wish for good farming but also to eliminate the bugs and the weeds that have grown over the winter. The community came together and later played yut-no-ri[윷놀이] and many other activities.
After spending the day together families would gather and watch the first full moon rise together. People usually granted wishes, and they also predicted the outcome of the farming through the shape of the moon as well.
Due to the development and industrialization of Korea in the last few decades, however, many of the traditional celebrations have been reduced in its size and significance. Nevertheless, the core traditions remain and many rural parts of Korea still celebrate such traditions.
Thanks for staying with us and we hope you have enjoyed your five minute reading with us.

I know my period's about to start when I get really mad at my mom for stupid reasons out of the blue
but like, who else was out there forcing a 7th grader to read the fucking Epic of Gilgamesh
#please share your crazy mom stories in solidarity#she put 'fornicate' on the vocab list! and when called out on this shit she just says 'be grateful. i could've chosen the rigveda.'#oh! and she forced me to read Rich Dad Poor Dad in THIRD grade. because she didn't think i had enough money sense#somehow this is a more accurate tracker than any app or other method i have ever used#me#when she dies theyll put her on the fast track to the good place because of how much shit I've given her over the years about my childhood#one time she smashed my ipod with a hammer until the battery ignited because i was too tired to finish my homework#tw mother issues? idk how to tag this if you don't want to see me complain about my mom#i love her a lot but there's a reason i live on the opposite end of the country (and it's not just that Florida is a death cult)

an american saying that apparently everyone outside of the US (read: western europe) is allowed to have an accent except americans, when i have in fact heard the "worst" spanish come out of americans mouths and no one has complained, just adapted to their accents
#this one guy has been living here for 5 years and he sounded like he was fresh off the plane#not vocab wise but accent wise i think he couldve put in a bit more effort#meanwhile in the uk i know of someone who said MU-seum instead of museum and nobody tried to understand him#z xarre

i've been so consistent with japanese for the past 2 months and i know i'm making progress but at the same time whenever i see a kanji i can't read i'm like. it is impossible for me to ever learn japanese i can't understand ANYTHING and i will literally never get better it is embarrassing and i should just stop etc.
#i always focused on the vocab and kanji instead of grammar bc that's how i learned english lmao#i mean by reading/listening and not really understanding the rules#but this year i wanted to focus on the basics so even though my kanji level is somewhere between n4 and n3#i went through the entire n5 coursebook i bought like... 15 years ago omg and i made sure i understand and remember all the grammar rules#and then moved onto n4 grammar coursebook#and honestly i am blown away agkdgjsjd so many things i've known instinctively started making sense#and i noticed i learn faster#bc i already have the words and i am used to the language so applying the rules is easier#so uhhhh fucking around for 10 years instead of diligently studying wasn't entirely a waste of time ig????#but of course i'm starting to get impatient sgjsfjsj i need to buy n3 coursebook soon and then the real fun will start#k.txt#for the past year i've really been living the naruto way. believe-iting my way through shit
