I think the truest measure of how horrible people treat anyone who works in the service industry, or retail, is when something goes wrong -- like when the wait time for customer service quite long -- and the employee's first reaction is to profusely apologise.

Even if it's not their fault, they are trained to apologise for ANYTHING that might be perceived as inconvenience to the customer.

I have fifteen years of experience in these industries, so I will always reply with stuff like: "Hey, all good. Not your fault." or "I know what that's like, you're doing great." or "Hey, that person shouldn't have yelled at you. Just take your time, catch your breath. I'm not in a rush."

And you know what happens every time?

That person will look at me like I just gave them a winning lotto ticket. The smallest amount of understanding and human decency will make their entire day. The bar of how customer facing staff are treated is so low, it's on the fucking ground.

It's really not hard to be patient and kind to cashiers, or call center people, or anyone else for that matter.

Shoutout to everyone who's been treated by shit by a customer and yet, you still had to apologise to them for harassing you. Honestly, customer service and retail workers are the backbone of society.

I can't get over the fact that in all the myths his in, Thanatos is just a Guy™ trying to do his job and having his day ruined by people like:

- Sisyphus HAD to die but when Thanatos went to collect his soul he tricked him and chained him thus escaping Death

-Alcestis offered her life in exchange for her husband's who fell ill and was about to die but when Thanatos went for her, Hercules fought him and made him leave without Alcestis's soul

No wonder he's seen as brooding and merciless anyone working in customer service can tell you people can be assholes and make your work harder than already is😭😭

As someone who works in retail (at the tills in specific), I believe there should be such a thing as "supermarket etiquette" that everyone should follow.

I am BEGGING you, PLEASE put a divider in between your shopping and the shopping of the person behind you. I cannot count how many times I have scanned someone else's shopping and apologised for it when in reality it's cause the customers haven't put dividers down. No, it doesn't matter that your shopping is a distance away from the customer I'm currently serving, put a divider between them ya lazy bastard.

Please don't hold your discount card in my face just milliseconds after I served the customer in front of you. Yes, I will scan your discount card but PLEASE BE PATIENT !

For the love of all things that are holy, PLEASE don't ask a cashier if it's their first day if they seem flustered or don't know how to do something. You may mean well but it's really fucking rude and disrespectful, and recently it's been driving me up the walls. No, I've been working here for four months. If it was my first day I would warn you beforehand. Seriously who raised you to think that's appropriate to say to someone?

And I may be being a bit nitpicky here but if a cashier is about to go on their break/clock out for the day, please please please go to a different till, they will serve you.

I think I'm a naturally bubbly person. I'm nice, y'know? So naturally, getting a job where my whole role is to be nice would be a dream come true. A job like...let's say..a restaurant host. The process is pretty simple. Greeting. How many? Any children? Right this way! ^^ Simple enough! I was used it it getting a little rough on the weekends, but sometimes it would be a little much. I used to really enjoy this job. Until one day, I didn't. It felt like hell to look people in the eyes and play pretend, knowing full and well they'll forget my name and face the moment I sit them down.

What once was a job that made me feel good about making other people feel good was just..a waste now. It felt empty. It felt like someone rubbing sandpaper down my back. I grind my teeth at the sight of another family coming to see me. My eyes twitch when they tell me they don't like the table I gave them. I hold back venom when they direct themselves to a table that's "better suited" for them.

I go in with a half smile and I leave having stepped three inches closer to suicide.

What is this? Fatigue? Entitlement? Anyone?

Working in a customer service job (retail) really makes me an angry person. Some people have NO understanding that they're talking to another human, who only does their job and can't be at three places at ones. If you don't have the patience to wait a minute then don't go shopping. Workers don't deserve to get treated like shit just because you can't regulate your behaviour.

I have worked in six different grocery stores in various towns and cities and heres something I noticed.

Every. Single. Sunday. Is crazy busy. Its almost double how busy Saturdays are. For some reason thats the day EVERYONE chooses to shop.

Every Sunday. Every store.

And every Sunday I hear so many people complain about how busy it is.

Here's an idea!

Go another day. Like literally ANY other day. Ideally mid week like Tuesday thru Thursday. Unless one of those days is senior discount day at that particular store, then its busy PLUS people are super slow.

If Sunday is the only day you can make it, you gotta just deal with it. Grow up, shut up, and stand in line like you learned in kindergarten.

If I don't have to leave my house, I stay home. Because even clothing stores are busy on Sundays.
