I headcanon each of the 03 turtles deals with chronic pain, but in different ways: Leo has nerve pain and a chronically stiff shoulder from getting stabbed. Mikey has pain from his legs not healing quite right after they were busted up. Raph gets chronic migraines after being knocked unconscious one too many times. Donnie has flare ups of systemic inflammation after his second mutation.
When you have chronic pain, you can “get used to it,” to an extent, which makes it easier to ignore (I can attest to this, personally). So, they all kind of get used to their respective pains.
With this in mind, imagine a body-swap fic where each of them is like bitch you live like this?? because they aren’t used to this specific type of pain.

Some Fanart for the Lovely fic Summer Storm by @dawntreaderflynne (Flynne) on Ao3
I love Flynne's 2003 TMNT fics so much, and I saw them answer an ask saying that if they got fan art, they'd like the sleeping turtles
I also really liked the image of April looking at the incoming storm clouds and decided to draw that too as a bonus

Tips on Writing Bishop
I've been asked a couple times for advice on how to write a good (03-style) Bishop, and I'm well-aware he can be a bit tough to get a grasp on. As someone who's studied him specifically to learn how to write him as accurately as possible, I figured I'd compile some thoughts in case it'd be helpful to anyone else. I know a lot of Rise takes on him are basing off the 03 version, so maybe this could help generate ideas, too. SO!
Big Overall Points!
At the core of EVERYTHING Bishop does are two primary motivations. The first: the protection of the earth. What this means to him can get tricky, because it doesn't necessarily mean protecting the people, at least not all of them. But it will be better understood alongside the other:
The second: The protection of his sense of safety. Bishop has been deeply traumatized, and everything he does is born of a want to avoid that pain ever again. In his mind, earth is a safe area, a controllable factor, and anything outside it is a danger that must be eliminated. This is why he will still be willing to put himself and other people on the line in service of this; any sacrifice is worth the greater goal. (It's worth noting, Bishop will claim the first as his motivation freely, but is likely not consciously aware of the second.)
Bishop deals in Big Picture ONLY. Another reason Bishop will willingly throw away anything, including the lives of the people he claims to protect, is that he seems incapable of understanding things on a small, individual basis.
Bishop is a cold personality. He does not have strong displays of emotion. He does emote, but for the most part it's muted, so I recommend using emotional bursts very sparingly. (In my own writing, as an example, I try to limit my use of exclamation marks in his dialogue as much as possible.)
At his core, Bishop is afraid, and his response to fear is aggression. This also makes it particularly difficult to talk him down, if he's put in an emotional state. His response to not being in control is often violent retaliation.
With those basic tenants understood, let's move next to some major personality traits:
Bishop is a controlling personality. This is a direct result of his trauma response. Things that can be controlled are safe, therefore he must control everything. If something cannot be controlled, it's a threat that must be eliminated. If he doesn't know why something happened, he becomes angry (including even when it benefits him.)
Bishop is very low-empathy. When writing him, I try to keep in mind that he cannot put himself in the perspective of others. (Or if he can, he doesn't care to.)
Bishop is a sadist. He gets personal enjoyment from hurting others.
Bishop likes fighting, but only when he's winning. He will quickly leave if he can't see a guaranteed victory.
Bishop is paranoid. This is probably self-evident, but it's the reason he's often so well-prepared even when things don't go to plan.
Bishop genuinely seems to enjoy science. He's shown to be far more lenient with scientist characters than anyone else, and he seems to involve himself in his scientists' projects to a degree. Enough to, at the very least, understand their work. (Given he was the one set to dissect the turtles, it might also be argued he has some medical or biology background, himself.)
Bishop is an opportunist and scavenger. He can roll with failures as long as he can find something to get out of it. If he's presented with an opportunity to stab someone in the back, and he has something to gain? He'll take it without a second thought.
Bishop is deeply self-blind. For all his perceptiveness and strategic prowess, Bishop is not very self-aware in the slightest. He is completely blind to his own hypocrisies, and thoroughly confident in his own righteousness.
Bishop adapts fast. He accepts situations for what they are and acts (Though he may still be angry about them, or what have you.) This is likely a skill developed via longevity; the world around him has changed rapidly, but he doesn't feel out of place at all.
Bishop will take extreme risks and thinks wildly outside the box. Also self-evident, if you're familiar with the plans he enacts throughout the show. He'll put a lot on the line if he thinks the reward is worth enough, and he's willing to go to extreme lengths to get what he wants, even if his plans would be considered crazy by normal standards.
Bishop is persistent. If he wants something, he won't stop until he gets it. If he fails, he'll retreat, make a new plan, and try again. It is very difficult to convince him to back down (and certainly not on moral grounds.)
Habits and triggers I've noted:
Being restrained of any sort puts Bishop in a panic. He is more likely to have an emotional response in these scenarios, and seems to have (an albeit muted) desperation to escape. (See: Leatherhead restraining him in the first encounter; His reaction to being trapped on the surgical table in Head of State.)
When being duplicitous or suppressing a reaction, Bishop will go to adjust his tie. This could possibly be considered his tell.
Bishop seems to have a particular fear of aliens blending in as humans. His slayer project was built around the assumption that this is a common threat. (Worth noting: This makes The Shredder the model of the exact threat Bishop is afraid of. Technically, Bishop himself may also fit the description of a threat shaped like a human.)
Writing considerations:
In 03's narrative, Bishop is EPF and EPF is Bishop. Narratively speaking, any organization Bishop is head of acts as if it is an extension of his will and character.
Bishop is shown to strike fear and/or discomfort into most characters he interacts with. Anything beyond this is an outlier, and will draw a reader's attention.
Dialogue-wise, Bishop is generally succinct and blunt. He does dabble in gloating, though, and especially likes to upset others. If he's given a chance to be mean, he'll usually take it. It can help to consider he has a Mission Mode and a Normal Mode. When it comes to Mission Mode, he gets straight to the point and hates unnecessary talking. Otherwise, he's still not very talkative, but will take the time to make pointed jabs or talk through a plan. A lot of his sense of humor seems to be rooted in how He's Better Than You (And You're Going To Die Painfully.)
It's a common pitfall that Bishop is depicted as seeking out the turtles. In 03, once he gets their DNA, he's done with them. Any encounters after that are incidental. Bishop does not care about anything that won't effect his greater goal. If he's targeting another character, it should have to do with a greater plan.
Bishop is an extremely competent combatant, shown to be able to handle up to 7 opponents at once. For a breakdown on his fighting style check out my other post on that!
Bishop is hard to kill, and oftentimes he accidentally contributes to his own defeat. (The hook from Bishop's Gambit is an example I get a LOT of mileage out of, as a perfect symbol of his self-defeating prophecies.)
We almost only ever see Bishop in the context of his work. While it could be construed that he depersonalizes himself, it's much more clear that the narrative depersonalizes him. As far as we, the audience know, Bishop's work is all that he is.
It's unclear if Bishop was released from his abduction or escaped. Depending on which you ascribe to, this can have ramifications for his mindset on how to deal with the alien threat. (Personally, because so much of his inability to cope hinges on a feeling of helplessness, I believe he was released. If he escaped on his own power, that undercuts it, somewhat.)
Thematically-speaking, Bishop parallels both his own torturers and his own victims at the same time. He has perpetuated the cycle that traumatized him in the first place by trying to fight fire with fire. (In that vein, I don't think he's capable of understanding that, not seeing aliens as people in the first place, just dangers. Considering how deeply ingrained his trauma is in his worldview and actions, it would probably ruin him, if he were ever able to actually grasp it.)
Bishop and EPF are likely a commentary on the military of the time 03 was coming out. This can be something worth keeping in mind, when figuring out his greater themes in your story, though it can just as well be discarded if it doesn't fit.
Adding to that, Bishop has an extensive american military background. His skills and knowledge will reflect that.
Bishop also plays on and references a number of real-life alien conspiracies. It can be worth digging through conspiracy history to drum up ideas and themes, too.
The ethical and philosophical quandaries of Bishop's body-hopping and humanity tend to not hold too much weight, because Bishop, himself, doesn't seem to care.
If I think of more I'll certainly be adding on to the reblogs of this post! Or, if you have more thoughts, please feel free to add! If you're in the mood for more Bishop ramblings, that's practically most of this blog atm, but this post is a particular favorite. If you're interested in Fast Forward!Bishop, specifically, consider this post! (also read Taking Pawns. slipped in that self-promo, nice.)

…so the writing demons grabbed me by the throat this morning and wouldn't let me go until i wrote this. anyway @hasello the cousins au is living in my brain rent-free so i hope u don't mind that i took a crack at something first-meetings-y with rise and 03 and wound up with 2.5k words of the babies :D
The rat who once was Lou sprinted down the rain-slick alleyway with one arm clutching his boys to his chest and the other digging through his pockets.
"I saw it run this way!"
He bit back a curse; his pursuers were still hot on his trail.
And his tail.
Heh.
What a time to be alive.
The mystic key bumped against his fingers, and he quickly snatched it out of his pocket and darted to the nearest wall. He needed to be quick and precise.
…well, he at least managed speed. He spent too many precious seconds glancing back to watch the beams of light bounce ever higher just a turn away, so he really had no idea if his sigil was anywhere near accurate.
As if in answer to prayer, it lit up, opening a circular portal for him, and he leapt through without a second thought, pocketing the key as he fell.
His luck held out long enough for him to hear it close behind him without any of the humans chasing him shouting in surprise.
It did not hold out long enough to actually drop him into the Hidden City.
Instead, when the portal ended, he stumbled out into a long tunnel, directly in front of another rat with four humanoid turtles around them.
No-Longer-Lou froze like a deer in headlights, staring at the strangers and heaving for air.
The strangers all mirrored him, freezing in place and scanning him in all their various capacities.
The other rat spoke first: "My, isn't this unexpected?"
A snort forced its way from No-Longer-Lou against his will at that, though he quickly brought a hand (no, he had paws now) to his mouth to stifle it. "I- I'm so sorry, I just- I didn't mean to- This isn't where-!"
"Peace," said the other rat, carefully maneuvering the turtle in front of him a bit to the side and standing up. "Whatever circumstances brought you here, it is clear that you have been moved by the strings of fate, rather than by choices of your own design. You mean no harm to us, yes?"
"I-I- yes."
"And we mean no harm to you," soothed the other.
No-Longer-Lou breathed heavily for a moment more, but then his attention was quickly arrested by motion in his arms.
Raphael- the quickest to grow, but still so, so small- screwed up his face. "Papa?"
"I'm right here, Raphael," No-Longer-Lou murmured, reaching into the sling to give the boy's hand a squeeze.
The other rat's eyes widened at the name. "Now, that is a one-in-a-million chance, indeed."
"Why's he got a baby with my name?" demanded the turtle wearing a red mask over his eyes.
It was No-Longer-Lou's turn to be surprised. "Raphael? But then…"
He took in the colors of the masks on the other three turtle boys' faces.
Purple, blue, and orange.
"Donatello? Leonardo? M-Michelangelo?"
Silence.
At least, until the turtle boy in orange leaned over to his brothers and whispered loudly, "How does he know our names, dudes?!"
No-Longer-Lou's sons roused at their names, and he quickly realized his mistake as Michelangelo began to fuss. "Oh, oh, no, Michelangelo, please, it is alright, please don't-!"
Michelangelo may have been the youngest, but he had a record-shattering set of lungs, for sure.
The moment Michelangelo began to wail, Leonardo jumped in with him, refusing to be left out, and then Raphael was crying and Donatello was shoving his tiny head into No-Longer-Lou's chest with his hands over where his ears would have been and the rat could feel his own ears on the verge of bleeding-!
The other rat's back straightened, and he turned to the older turtle boys. "My sons, I still have some of the supplies I scavenged when you were tots. Raphael, the pacifiers. Leonardo and Donatello, the blankets. Michelangelo, the pillows."
The boys nodded seriously, wincing as the cries reached a peak before darting across the tunnel and digging through various chests and boxes. Meanwhile, the other rat carefully took No-Longer-Lou's arm and led him towards the chair the others had been gathered around in the first place. "Please, have a seat. I would quite like to hear the tale of how you came to this place-"
-an ear-splitting cry from Leonardo-
"-but first, we must calm your children," finished the other rat with a tired smile.
No-Longer-Lou nodded just as tiredly and began to gently bounce his boys. "There, there, your Papa is right here, we are all together, and…and we are safe."
The other rat's expression warmed.
"I got the pacifiers!" called the older boy named Raphael, charging back over and brandishing the four objects in one hand.
"Excellent work, Raphael," praised the other rat as he took the pacifiers.
The boy beamed.
"These should do for now," the other rat said, pressing one into No-Longer-Lou's paw. "These were enchanted by an old friend of mine to allow them to keep up with beaked babies."
No-Longer-Lou managed a weak smile at that, then carefully reached in to nudge the pacifier against Michelangelo's mouth. "Here we are, little Orange. Wouldn't it be nicer to suck on this instead of crying?"
Michelangelo hiccuped, but after a moment of what seemed like confusion, his mouth closed around the pacifier and he looked up at No-Longer-Lou with wide, wet eyes.
"One down, two to go," chuckled the other rat, handing off another pacifier. This one went to Leonardo, who contented himself quickly once he had something to do with himself. He seemed to be gnawing on the pacifier, rather than sucking on it, but No-Longer-Lou chalked it up to curiosity at the foreign object.
Surprisingly- or perhaps not- Donatello was the next one to need something to work with. Raphael began calming down after a few moments of being the only one still crying, but when Donatello caught sight of Leonardo messing with the pacifier, he turned an utterly betrayed stare up at No-Longer-Lou until he gave the boy one to fiddle with.
With the remaining pacifier in hand, No-Longer-Lou smiled wearily at Raphael. "You may be a bit big to use this, Red. Do you still want to try?"
Raphael nodded firmly. "Raphie's the big brother. Gotta be the bestest essample."
No-Longer-Lou handed the pacifier over, and…yep, it was completely dwarfed by his son. Still, his boy held it in his mouth and smiled over at Michelangelo when the two met eyes.
Michelangelo blinked, then smiled back.
"Blanket delivery!" called the bigger Donatello, carrying a pile of blankets nearly as tall as he was.
Next to him, his brother Leonardo fussed. "Donnie, I told you I could have held some!"
"Easy, Leonardo," chuckled the other rat, easily lifting the blankets from Donatello's hands. "How about you make sure our visitors are tucked in and comfortable?"
"Okay, Father," chirped Leonardo, immediately doing exactly that- and perhaps peeking into No-Longer-Lou's arms a few times to peer at his boys.
Little Raphael watched the bigger boy curiously, then said around the pacifier, "Raphie thought we were th'only turtle people."
The bigger Leonardo paused for a moment, then looked at him. "So'd we."
Leonardo- the baby- met the other Leonardo's eyes, then spat out his pacifier- and yes, it was much more chewed-on than before. "Hi! Hi, hi, hi! I'm Leo!"
The other Leonardo blinked, then grinned. "Me too. It's a good name, right?"
Little Leonardo nodded, shaking his entire body from the effort. "Daddy pickeded it!"
No-Longer-Lou chuckled. "Feeling better now, are we?"
Little Leonardo nodded again, just as energetically. "Mikey no sad no more!"
"Did somebody say Mikey?!" crowed the older boy of the same name, wildly waving pillows over his head as he ran over.
"Midey! Midey! Midey!" cheered the baby around his pacifier, flailing his arms.
"That's right, little dude!" Older Michelangelo grinned and peered over at him as soon as he skidded to a stop in front of No-Longer-Lou. "We're the mightiest!"
"MIDEYST!" shrieked the baby in glee.
Little Donatello winced and paused his inspection of his pacifier to glare witheringly at his youngest brother.
"Careful, Michelangelo," chastised No-Longer-Lou. "Your brother has sensitive hearing, remember?"
Baby Michelangelo blinked, then frowned very seriously and wiggled until he was able to grab Little Donatello's arm in a hug- or rather, a- "Dondon hubbub."
Little Donatello's glare softened, and he went back to fiddling with the pacifier with his free hand. It seemed the hinge on the back occupied more of his attention than the squishy part meant to be sucked on.
The older Michelangelo pressed the pillows in his hands to his face. "D'awww, they're so cute!"
No-Longer-Lou smiled warmly. "They are, aren't they?"
"It seems like we've established that we have similar taste in names," chuckled the other rat. "Though, just to be sure, might I ask yours?"
No-Longer-Lou's smile turned bitter. "It doesn't matter. I'm only a splinter of the man I used to be, anyway."
The other rat's eyebrows rose. "What curious phrasing. I never was a man, but the name I was given before my mutation by the family I was brought into was…well, Splinter."
No-Longer-Lou straightened in the chair at that. "Curious indeed…"
After a moment of thought, on a half-formed hunch born of one too many late night sci-fi movie marathons, he continued, "You know, before my own mutation, I'd more-or-less befriended a rat in my- well. A rat. I…I'd chosen the name Lou Jitsu years ago, but…the name I was given was Yoshi."
A shaky breath from Splinter. "…Hamato Yoshi?"
No-Longer-Lou steadfastly kept his focus on his boys. "I haven't deserved that name in a long time."
He kept the part about not wanting to be associated with his family's 'traditions' firmly unsaid.
"You okay, Papa?" asked Raphael, reaching up to pat at his face.
"I will be," No-Longer-Lou said, pressing a kiss to the boy's forehead.
Splinter gently laid a hand on No-Longer-Lou's shoulder. "I swear to you, you and your children will be safe here for as long as you need. I don't know how you came to be here, but I will help you return home if you so wish."
No-Longer-Lou nodded, thickness rising up in his throat and clogging it.
"Mr. Lou, can I see Baby Mikey?" asked the older Michelangelo, setting the pillows down.
Both rats' eyebrows rose, and Splinter asked, "Mr. Lou?"
"Well, if he doesn't use that Yoshi name, and we can't call him Splinter because you're Splinter, then he's Mr. Lou!" Older Michelangelo crossed his arms and nodded decisively, his point made.
Splinter and…and Lou met each other's eyes with equally bemused expressions, then Lou looked down at his boys. "I don't know. Orange, would you like to see Big Michelangelo?"
"Bihmidey!" Michelangelo said seriously, patting at Donatello's arm before wriggling upright and peeking out at the older boy. "Bihmidey hi?"
"Heh, yep," said Older Michelangelo, beaming widely. "Hi, li'l Mikey!"
The baby chirped excitedly, bouncing in place until Older Michelangelo reached over to pick him up. Lou watched carefully, but it seemed the older boy had at least some idea of how to hold a young child, as he easily hefted Little Michelangelo against his side.
"I wanna see the babies!" exclaimed Older Leonardo.
"Me too!"
"Yeah!"
Little Leonardo giggled and clambered out of Lou's arms too quickly for him to react. "Hey, hey, hi! I'm big boy!"
Older Raphael darted forward to keep Little Leo from tumbling to the ground. "You sure are, yeesh! Don't hurt yourself!"
Little Raphael whined. "Leo, don't fall down like that! You'll get a owie!"
"S'okay, Raphie!" Little Leonardo grinned up at his brother, then at Older Raphael. "There's two Raphies! That's even more Raphie! Gonna be saferest!"
Little Raphael whined again, but after a brief moment where Older Raphael's eyes grew suspiciously moist, the older boy blinked quickly before grinning at his younger double. "You heard 'im. I'll keep your bro outta trouble, swear."
Little Raphael scowled. "You better."
"Did you want to come out and keep an eye on them?" asked Older Leonardo knowingly.
That got a nod out of Little Raphael, and the older boy helped him climb down to the ground.
With only Donatello left in his arms, Lou couldn't find it in himself to be surprised when the older Donatello peered at the younger boy. "What about you, Tinytello? You wanna come hang out?"
Little Donatello hissed in displeasure and flipped the hinged handle on the pacifier up and down more quickly.
"I'm guessing that's a 'no,' then," said Lou. "It's nothing against you, I promise. Today has simply been…a lot."
"Oh, I can get that," agreed Older Donatello immediately. "Like, I dunno what you were doing before you came here, but it didn't look very fun. And now a bunch of big brother wannabes are getting all up in his space and playing with his bros without him? I'd be on-edge, too."
Little Donatello's handle-flipping stilled, and he shifted to look at Older Donatello's chest. (Wasn't there a turtle-specific word for that part of their shells…?)
"I'm close, huh?" asked Older Donatello. "Figured it'd be something like that. That's okay, Tinytello! Sounds like you've been having a rough time of it. Do you want me to go do something else, or should I stay put?"
Little Donatello's forehead furrowed for a moment, then he gravely held the pacifier out to the older boy.
Lou's brows shot up. "Huh. I know Purple is unique in many ways, but he usually isn't so quick to decide a stranger is worthy of a gift…even if that gift belonged to the stranger, first."
Little Donatello frowned when Older Donatello didn't immediately take the pacifier, then gave the handle a demonstrative flip before shaking the pacifier a little.
Older Donatello's eyes widened, and he carefully took the pacifier and gave the handle a tentative flip.
Little Donatello chirruped, shifting in place to get comfy in the crook of Lou's elbow in such a way as to keep watching the older boy.
Splinter chuckled as the two Donatellos went back and forth, flipping and chirping. "I do believe your son has found a new friend in mine."
Lou huffed a weak laugh of his own. "I suppose he has."
He took the opportunity to scan the tunnel- or rather, now that he had a moment to think, the room within the tunnel.
Little Raphael and Older Leonardo stood aside as Little Leonardo cartwheeled in circles, ooh-ing and aah-ing whenever the younger boy glanced their way. Older Raphael kept a hawklike eye on the toddler, constantly circling around him to place himself between Leonardo and the nearest obstacles. Older Michelangelo hopped around the room, bouncing the baby with each hop and getting the both of them to giggle madly.
Little Donatello yawned contentedly and smushed the side of his face against Lou's arm, still watching Older Donatello bemusedly flip the handle of the pacifier.
Lou felt the adrenaline that had kept him moving for the past hour finally begin to drain, and it quickly became a struggle to keep his eyes open.
Splinter's hand came down on his shoulder and gave it a squeeze. "Rest, Lou. You and your sons are safe here. The rest can wait for now."
Lou nodded tiredly, and his eyes fluttered shut before he could have any further say in the matter.

For my dear @belleyellsaboutturtles,
Though you've been kidnapped by the Foot Clan and forced to carry out their nefarious purposes, I pray this fic provides you a modicum of comfort in these dark times.
Prompt #3 - Any Iteration: One of the turtles is injured and it's getting colder

So, I have been considering what each cartoon tmnt version would most excel comparatively with the others and I think I got it:
Tmnt 2012 are the stealthiest of the bunch. I can't explain it, it just makes sense.
Tmnt 2003 have the most technique. Their katas are pretty flawless and their translation in real life fights are basically perfect.
Rise tmnt would be resilience/strength! Especifically thinking how they can literally be used as wrecking balls and just act incovenienced. Out of all versions, they are the ones who can take a beating best and can hit as hard (if not really skillfully for the most part).
Tmnt 87 are very inventive. Their zaniness translates very well in ridiculous plans and weaponization of everyday items the other versions can't quite reach (Rise Leo would absolutely take notes tho).
I think this makes sense right?

Not Alone
read on AO3
Leaving Leatherhead alone in that great, dark subway station felt wrong. Raph tried one more time to convince him to come home with them; we can help you, he promised. But Leatherhead was too sure, and the rest of his family was just fine with it.
Alright, maybe “fine” wasn’t the right word. The walk home was short, but it was taken in somber silence. Mikey seemed to have a lot on his mind as he rubbed his sore noggin, and Donnie looked faraway and solemn.
“This is bogus,” Raph announced. “LH ain’t a danger to us. So he got some anger issues, so what? It ain’t anything new to you guys.”
“Leatherhead is so much bigger than us,” Leo reminded him. “It’s lucky that Mikey wasn’t hurt worse, but he still lost consciousness for a moment. I understand him not wanting to take any chances.”
“Which reminds me,” Donnie cut in. “Mikey, I have to check you for a concussion.”
As they entered the lair, Don dragged Mikey away, and Raph followed Leo into the kitchen.
“He called himself a monster, Leo. ‘Scuse me for thinking maybe the guy could use a little compassion.”
“I’m not saying we shouldn’t give it to him, just that a little distance isn’t a bad thing when he can’t control himself like that.”
Splinter looked between the two of them, brow raised and cup of tea halfway to his lips. “My sons, welcome home. I assume our friend is well?”
Leo sat at the table beside Splinter, sighing heavily. “Yes, Sensei, he’s alright. We had a run-in with some kind of hunter, but we took care of him.” Raph snorted. Leo glared at him briefly. “Donnie got him set up in an abandoned subway station just a few minutes away from here. It needs some cleanup, and electricity of course, but we already agreed to go back and help him in a few days.”
Splinter bowed his head. “He wishes to be left alone, then?”
Raph replied before Leo got a chance. “Yeah, he said he’ll let us know when he’s ready. He wants to be alone.”
“That is his choice, Raphael. But I feel you are not at peace with it?”
“No! Sensei, he’s sittin’ in the dark all alone over there, beatin’ himself up over something that ain’t his fault.”
“Sound familiar?” Leo cut in.
Silence fell over the small kitchen.
Splinter held a hand out toward Raphael. Hesitantly, because he could never deny his father, Raph stepped forward and took his hand. “Your compassion for Leatherhead is admirable, and I am sure he appreciates it. Sometimes these lessons must be learned by oneself though. If he needs us, we will be here.”
Raph deflated with a sigh. “Yeah, okay.”
“Just give him time.”
Raph tried to follow his father’s advice. They all went back to bed, even though he just didn’t feel tired anymore. He laid in his hammock, wrapped in blankets, and stared at the dark ceiling. Leatherhead didn’t have any blankets or pillows over there. When Donnie suggested walking back over with some stuff, he insisted that he would walk over for his things later. Well, it had been an hour since they left him and he still hadn’t come over for anything. Was he just not planning on sleeping?
With a frustrated grumble, Raph tossed aside his blankets and clambered out of the hammock. He quietly made his way down the fire escape stairway and marched right over to the couch that still had Leatherhead’s borrowed bedding strewn across it. He messily folded the two blankets, tucked a pillow under his arm, grabbed a couple of sodas since he wasn’t getting any sleep anyway, and stomped his way out into the cold sewer.
Give him time. Yeah, Raph gave him time alright, an entire hour and a half.
"Yo Leatherhead!" he called out. He pulled the make shift door closed behind him. Donnie had already offered to replace it with a false-wall door like their own, and he declined. Raph was sure he would build it anyway.
Raph felt a little uneasy in the wide-open, dark space. His instincts told him to cling to the wall and keep one eye on an exit. Knowing what a foul mood his friend was in really didn’t help.
"Where ya hidin' at? It’s cold as shell tonight, so I bought some blankets.” He squinted into the darkness. “I brought some sodas over too. I, uh, thought maybe we could talk."
"You should not be here."
Raph nearly jumped out of his shell. "Geez! You trying to give me a heart attack or somethin'? Warn a guy." He spotted Leatherhead slouched on the stairs of the platform, little more than a shape in the darkness.
"It is dangerous to be here," he reasserted.
Raph sat on a step beside him and plunked the blankets in his lap. "Why's that? Got a gas leak?"
He got a low growl in response.
Raph popped open both cans of soda and sat Leatherhead’s down on the step in between them. It almost physically pained him to think that LH might not drink it, but the gesture was important. April was slowly acclimating them to the idea that a little bit of food waste every now and then was unavoidable.
"I ain't afraid of you, by the way.”
Leatherhead picked up the can, but didn't drink from it. "Then you are a fool. Did you not see what I did to your brother? What could have been?"
An idea struck Raphael. He smirked and rested his elbows on the step behind him. "So, what—losing your cool makes you a monster?"
He looked at one of his clawed hands. "Yes."
"Do I look like a monster to you?"
He sighed. "Sibling bickering does not count. You couldn't understand."
"What? The helplessness? The anger that builds on itself like—like a poison? Or the feeling that everybody must be pretending to care, 'cause it ain’t possible that they really love someone as messed up as you? Which part don't I get?"
Leatherhead stayed quiet.
Raph took a drink to cool himself off. "I almost brained him with a pipe a while back. I woulda really hurt him if the guys hadn't stopped me."
"I'm sorry." He finally took a sip, maybe just to have something to do. "I did not know."
"Ah, I know you didn't, big guy. Ya don’t gotta apologize. All I’m tryin’ to say is, you aren’t alone, and you’re not a monster. If you wanna talk…or want any tips, you know where to find me." He knocked him in the shoulder with his elbow. "Neighbor."
Finally, a little bit of a smile turned up the corners of his mouth.
"Ya don't need to punish yourself by sitting here in the dark. What do you say, tomorrow morning I’ll bring the guys over here to get some lights on, huh?”
He huffed a short breath through his nose. "Alright, I’ll allow it. I appreciate your kindness, Raphael.”
He smirked. “Yeah, don’t get used to it.”
LH took another sip of the soda and this time, Raph caught him curling his lip. "What is this beverage? Why is it…tingly?"
Raph laughed "What, you never had a soda?"
"No." He set it aside with disdain "The Utrom eat a very wholesome diet largely composed of fish, greens, and whole grains. They have no dietary need for ‘soda’."
"Oh brother, tell me that diet included pizza!”
Leatherhead gave him a rather blank look.
“Alright. Tomorrow, first thing, pizza and a generator.”
He laughed. His laugh was a deep, chesty thing that Raph could almost feel, sitting so close to him. Hearing it was a nice change of pace from the sorrow in his voice earlier in the night. “Thank you, Raphael. I’ll see you in the morning.”
Raph stood and held his fist out. Leatherhead gently bumped his knuckles. “In the mornin’, big guy.”

'03 leosagi, yes
but
but
but
ROTTMNT leosagi.
thoughts?
Well, the first thing we’d have to know is if Usagi is a teenager. Would the Rise team make us cry by making Usagi a girl? (Please I hope not they need to be gay)
Next we need to know how compatible the personalities are. OOOH banter would be amazing, especially between a Samurai and a ninja. I’d love to see how that goes.
Rise Leo is so me Fr and honestly I hope he gets a Usagi (but I’ve a feeling there probly won’t be), but also knowing he’s so much like me, he won’t get the guy.
Anyways my final opinion:
2003 Leosagi is real and Rise Leosagi has yet to show me it’s amazingness. <3

Spikey Mikey Chapt 1
Masterpost / Next (coming sometime,
*whispers* you can read further on my ao3)
It hurt, freakin shell it hurt. It felt like fire in his veins. Hot and searing. But that was nothing compared to his eyes. They pulsed and throbbed. Even closed the light was too bright. Scorching his retinas. Dry and hot, stressed and spasming behind eyelids. The pain spread from there, giving him a headache in his temples. It was agony to move, to even breathe. Bit it still hurt regardless of movement. Then the pain increased tenfold. Body changing in unnatural ways. His jaw lengthened, teeth growing longer, sharper. A tail sprouted growing further, slamming the ground behind him. Limbs thickening, growing. Claws sharpened, lengthened. He felt the crack of his shell as it changed shape. Bones crackling as they grew beyond what they ever should have been. The pain washed over him in one final unbearable wave. Then fizzled out, leaving tingling numbness as his brain attempted to comprehend the amount of pain he was in as well as his body's new changes.
It was only because of the new blooming pain in his chest that he remembered to breathe. Lying on the far too cold floor. (Oh, who was he kidding? The floor wasn't that cold it was him that was that hot) He contemplated how absolutely horrendous his family's luck was. One of them accidentally getting double mutated once had been an ordeal. Of course years alter someone else got double mutated, and of course it was him. Couldn't have it any other way. At least he felt he still had his mind, that was something. Although he wished it would stop sending pain signals. Or accepting them for that matter. The pain slowly faded away simply leaving him exhausted. Limbs weighed down, he laid there.
'Body feels heavy like lead or stone. I'll just not move for awhile.'
And do that he did. Not until crying reached his ears did he bother to open his eyes. Trying to pinpoint the source. Around the corner. Drat, he'd have to get up and move to find out who was crying. Pulling his legs under him, he fought gravity and exhaustion. Coming to a stand he swayed dangerously. Like a dead tree in the raging wind. Centering himself, he slowly plodded forward. Each foot slightly dragging and thumping to the ground like a steady drum. Tail dragging behind. Turning the corner, his blurry vision attempted to focus enough to see the source of crying. He found it.
Two small children held each other, crying out into the air. The larger of the two had a spiky shell and tail, not unlike his new additions. Red was painted on him and for a moment he was worried about it being blood before realizing it was natural markings. The smaller of the pair looked up at him with liquid eyes, gold patches and freckles decorating him.
Both whimpered when he stepped closer, a strange large form covered in blood was too intimidating for their already scared minds.
He crouched making himself as small as possible.
"Hey, it's alright" his voice was deeper, gravely. Scratchy from the screaming he had done. But it seemed to soothe the duo.
"It's okay, promise. I'm not gonna hurt you. Y'think you guys might wanna come with me? I know where there's food and warmth. You'll be safe."
Slowly extending a hand out for them to take, his breath hitched when they didn't run and rubbed again his palm like cats; after they had sniffed it for possible danger, of course. Slowly, so very slowly, he gathered them into his arms. Tucking them into the crook of one, he held them close to his chest. They snuggled close, seeking the comfort of his warm plastron. He found that it was easier to walk on all fours (well, three as one arm was full) than two feet. Plodding forward, tail dragging through the dirt; he navigated his way home through the growing fog in his head.
'Shouldn't be this tired, mutating must taken more out of me than I thought.'
And suddenly he wasn't moving forward. No matter how hard he willed his limbs to keep going. The last of his energy reserves had been spent, vision clouding with black. His body began to shut down to save the energy he needed to stay alive. He slid to the ground, miraculously laying on his empty arm instead of squishing the kids. The world moved in slow motion, everything underwater. He did not hear the concerned peeps nor the searching voices calling his name.
